Because politicians and political organizations respond to pressure. If you fail to exert pressure when they do something stupid and damaging, they don’t respond. Why should they respond? By failing to apply pressure you let them feel as if they never have to suffer any consequences for their stupid and damaging actions.

In politics you have to apply both the carrot and the stick sometimes even to your friends. This is an occasion for applying the stick to NARAL.

Also, what should not be hidden is our disdain for the supine sell-out of NARAL by that monumentally moronic Montanan, Nancy Keenan, who would support “Rape Gurney” Joe over Ned Lamont. What a piece of political sluttery by “Red State” Nancy.

Here’s the missive (or missile) I just sent NARAL’s way –

“The purpose of NARAL is great. But its national leadership (i.e., Nancy Keenan) is abysmally stupid. What part of Plan “B” and a “short ride” to another hospital doesn’t she get?

Joe “Rape Gurney” Lieberman refused to support a filibuster against anti-choice Joe Alito for the Supreme Court.

Supporting Lieberman for Senate in Connecticut is a kick in the uterus to every woman in America.”

At age 61, I have to wonder what I fought for all those years ago before Roe v Wade. Now, the organizations we built and bequeathed to our younger sisters are more interested in rubbing elbows with the Washington elite than in protecting the rights they were made for.

I speak now about your unbelievable endorsement of Lieberman and Chaffee, both of which voted for cloture on the Alito nomination. I’ve wracked my brain to try to find a reason why you would do this, but I’ve come up dry.

Joe Lieberman is the man who told rape victims that they could take a short ride to another hospital if the one they were at wouldn’t give them Plan B. This is alright with you? Helping to place anti-choice judges on the Supreme Court is alright with you?

This kind of behavior is why I stopped supporting national organizations in favor of local activists. You’ve obviously become too fond of the cocktail weenies and being on the social “A” list. What a disappointment you are.

NARAL called us this month asking for $upport. We get their on-line newsletter and have supported them in the past.

We told the caller that we were unhappy with NARAL’s support of Joe Lieberman and were not interested in participating.

The volunteer sighed and said she’s “been getting a lot of that” and thanked us before she hung up.

It was a polite conversation and I frankly felt she was both sympathetic and frustrated.

His voting record in office is quite the opposite to anyone who I would believe to be supporting womans rights. He voted for 2 of the worst Supreme Court Judges and supports the right wing government in every area.
Yet NARAL still supports him?

The only conclusion that I and my colleagues can come up with is that Nancy Keehan is more concerned about keeping her job (and the big fat Salary that goes with it) than genuinely fighting for Womans Rights and Free Choice.

I have withdrawn all and any support for NARAL and if NARAL continue to back Lieberman I will actively fight against the organisation (NARAL).

The organisation is doing more harm than good by supporting Senators who vote in “Conservative Anti Abortion Judges” and by supporting those that make public statements against Free Choice in the way that Joe Lieberman has.
Telling rape victims to “take a short ride to a different hospital” sickens me and it should have been the end for any support from NARAL for Lieberman.

Local Connecticut NARAL head Carolyn Treiss is doing a fantastic job but her hard work continues to be hampered by the Executive Branch of NARAL.
