for the week ending 9/9/06:
[The following is an open letter to George W. Bush from Bill Clinton's penis]
Well, George, I gotta say — even though I only have one eye, I should have seen this coming. I mean, I’d heard in various executive washrooms that you and your people harbored a massive grudge against me for being so irresistible, but to invade a sovereign nation, empty America’s coffers, destroy the United States’ reputation in the world, and make this planet much less safe because you wanted to show that yours is, at least metaphorically, bigger, wider, more powerful? That’s just sick, man. What the hell is wrong with you? Tell me, when you were a kid, did that wire monkey that passes for your mama point at you "down there" and laugh because you were even less endowed than your sister, Doro? Did all those hours with your childhood imaginary friend blasting all those defenseless frogs to smithereens anesthetize you to the CIA torture rooms you reluctantly admitted really do exist? See, I want to understand why you spend so much time trying to prove your manhood to your dad and anyone marginally more popular than you are.
And now because your little Iraq adventure failed to make you BMOC in the Middle East (or anywhere else, for that matter), I hear that some of your right-wing, Bible-humping fans have scripted a "docudrama" blaming my boy for letting 9/11 happen, despite the fact that according to every Gregorian calendar I’m aware of, September 11, 2001 was officially on your watch. The HELL? It’s Bill’s fault that you didn’t sit up and take notice when Harriet Miers handed you that Aug. 6 PDB because you were too busy trying to peer down her Dress Barn "cowboy style" blouse? I know, it was her smoky, kohl-lined eyes that distracted you from capturing Osama bin Laden in Tora Bora when you had the chance? Jeez, man, it’s always anyone else’s fault but yours, eh? Oh, and by the way, I hear this "docudrama" is so loosely based on the official 9/11 Commission Report that it might as well have been plagiarized from "Mildred Pierce." Whatever you’re holding over Gloved Mouse, Inc. and its subsidiaries to guarantee they air this potentially libelous piece of revisionist crap must be something tasty, indeed.
Face it, George: you’re already going down in history as the worst President this country’s ever had. You really need to get a grip on something other than that fun-sized roll of Life Savers in your pocket.
Your nemesis,
Li’l Bill
P.S. When you figure out how to navigate a submarine past that series of locks and dams on the Arkansas River, then maybe I’ll let Bill give you a clear shot at the Clinton Library, okay?
Yes, folks, another busy week filled with forehead-slapping, "No, he diiiiiin’t just say that!" moments, courtesy of BushCo. BooMan of the eponymous BooMan Tribune gives us a round-up of this particularly chock-filled week. I suspect it’s only going to get worse the closer we get to Election Day. Strap yourselves in.
And since we are coming up on the fifth anniversary of 9/11, it’s only fitting that the sarcasm on the blogs this week was directed at the inevitable reenactments of Bush’s "megaphone moment." TBogg has the inside skinny on what to expect from the Preznit’s "prime time" address to the nation on Monday night. Thank god for Monday Night Football.
In true wingnut fashion, Dinesh D’Souza, projecting like the Regal Cinema multiplex on Route 4 in Paramus, NJ, seeks to lay the blame for 9/11 at the feet of "America’s cultural left." Um…quoi? Michael Berube reviews D’Souza’s latest screed.
As Bush noted in one of his "nonpolitical" political speeches during the week in which he accuses bin Laden of being worse than Hitler and Lenin combined, America is "safer but not yet safe." Richard Cranium at The All-Spin Zone says, "Hold the phone. Let’s not be so hasty to categorize the U.S. as ‘safer’." The Rude Pundit says pretty much the same, except with some additional, flowery language.
Our Dear Leader fondly recollects spending 9/11 in the toilet on Air Force One.
At great risk to his own mental well-being, Holden at First Draft tries to analyze Bush’s limousine interview with Charles Gibson. BTW, you can now reach Holden at the Austin Sanitorium. Visiting hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
NTodd of Dohiyi Mir catches another Bush accidental truth and provides comparative illustrations. (Completely as an aside, NTodd’s been having great fun at Dan Gerstein’s expense over at the official Losermanblog – they pulled the comments this morning, the wussies.)
There have been a wealth of storyboards for "Path to 9/11 (Or How I Learned That Bill Clinton was Responsible for the Sacking of Troy)". The Editors were fortunate enough to be granted access to the official storyboards. Tengrain at Media Needle provides the outtake reels. D r i f t g l a s s was the set photographer, apparently. Take a look. And don’t hog the popcorn.
Think you could make it at Disney? The 100% heterosexual General J.C. Christian has a couple of pitch ideas that might just be Disney’s answer to "Titanic." I wonder if the General would ensure product placement in his films for Holy Huggables.
Rising Hegemon’s Attaturk continues his sneak peek at Dick Cheney’s upcoming biography, and the folks at World O’ Crap have a go at The Felafel Hunter’s latest waste of paper.
Finally, Lindsay at Majikthise warns us about stingrays.

boycott ABC!!
watertiger!
Now HERE’s an interesting development:
Hope there’s more where that’s coming from, don’t we, keeds?
The Clusterfuckers have many problems- one of em is that if Bin Laden is still a big problem- then they haven’t done their job- but if he ISN’T a big problem- then they have no campaign issues- none- nada- diddly squat.
So how ya gonna fix that little contradiction?
Easy– “things are safer but not safe”
Stupid gooper tricks!
I am a Disney Stockholder… I want to know how I am being ripped off and where that $40 million came from!
… but to invade a sovereign nation, empty America’s coffers, destroy the United States’ reputation in the world, and make this planet much less safe …
Glaring Omission: In direct response to the horrific attacks of 9/11, Bush in Iraq inadvertently fathered a burgeoning Islamic fundamentalist republic which has extremely close and long standing ties to Iran vis a vis Al Dawa (PM Al Maliki) and the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution of Iraq (Al Hakim).
9/11 Iraq = Bush’s Islamic fundamentalist republic
Tried posting this in the previous thread. Don’t know if it went through because my computer froze, then I couldn’t get back in. So here it goes again:
Meanwhile, I agree with another poster: a boycott without a stated goal is useless. And with the movie’s airing going forward, I don’t know what we can accomplish.
I think just pointing out relentlessly how false the movie is/was is the important thing. I actually see a plus in what has happened so far: how else could we have had so many people hearing in the MSM that rumors of the Clinton admin’s failures are false? And how else could we have had that message coupled with information that rightwingers are manipulating the media to make us think otherwise?
Perhaps we need a website where people can contribute their photos and videos, showing what alternate things they’re doing tonight and tomorrow night when the movie airs. Sort of along the lines of the website that featured apologies to the world when we went into Iraq.
petedownunder, are you here?
I left you (and all us other current or former lawyers of a certain vintage) a li’l musical treat there.

Rather than wait on Big Dog, can you come up with a reasonable theory about libel against yourself (think hard), file the suit in the next 3 hours, and get news of the suit onto CNN?
A fella can dream.

Attacking the FCC licenses of ABC affiliates is a strong approach. See:

OT BTW- I think it would be great to compile a reading list of the book exposes of Disney and Co. Maybe someone one could do an FDL article? I have a feeling that would get passed around. rcauthen mentioned something earlier about a Carl H (spelling) book, and I’ve seen a few others noted, but I haven’t been keeping track.
Lotus – I love Copeland (in a heterosexual way of course) and Fanfare is wonderful.
Prof – The Law Society takes a dim view of filing lawsuits without instructions from your client, and in Oz the loser pay the defendant’s attorney’s fees so we have to proceed with caution, otherwise I’d love to.
I so agree, l’il Bill! In Bushworld, feeling impotent means you need to find someone powerless to smack around. So you have to wonder what’s up (or not) when Bush talks about “projecting American power” around the globe. The junta’s current record of incompetence could have been predicted by their previous lives: Bush was an alcoholic black sheep who failed at everything, even when backstopped by Poppy. Rove was the too-smart fat kid who got beaten up by girls. Cheney is an ex-Nixon go-fer with Napoleonic delusions whose meds may have “unfortunate sexual side effects.” In 2000, thanks to SCOTUS, the rich slacker, the Machiavellian nerd and the Republican drone were handed real power at last. All they had to do was pick a pushover country, strap on the giant phallus of American military might — and start a “splendid little war” that would wipe their past performance problems right off the slate.
Prof – BTW both NZ and Oz have really scary libel laws, none of this NY Times vs Sullivan public figure stuff, so they are really exposed. I wish Big Dog or Mdme Scty would go for it.
How long ’til courts open down there, pete?
I think one of the key scenes from 9-11 (Michael Moore’s) was W and Cheney leaving from their “testimony” in front of 9-11 Commission. There were no notes/papers allowed, nothing on record. Nada. THAT seems to me to be worth another look-see in the run-up to “Who was the president on 9-11-2001?” Exactly why was it that they were not on record?
In my dreams, I know.
bg @ 12
bg, you mean the unsworn testimony before the 9/11 Commission?
watertiger @ 15
Do you really think taking an oath to tell the truth, much like an oath the preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States would mean anything to either of them?
petedownunder @ 14
This point goes to the Democratic wimp factor. Democrats — at the least, progressives — simply MUST start fighting back. Chicago rules!
Well it would’ve been interesting to see what kind of image Darkblack would’ve come up with to accompany this post, but perhaps some things are better left to the imagination.
OT but related:
New York Mag: Bush Warned NYT’s Keller Of Having “Blood On Your Hands”
I just cannot feel any sympathy for Bill Clinton, whom I voted for twice. I mean, what the hell were you thinking? Bill. With all your p.r. tightness with Geo I and Geo II. This is hardball. Bill. Got that? Hillary. Think Iraq. Senator.
Jane Hamsher @ 16
Er…sorry! I guess I shouldn’t have had that glass of wine before I started writing.
Dear Bill’s Penis:
Don’t you understand that W is only interested in bringing on the End Times? THAT’S his legacy – he’s the Antichrist and every thing he does is in an effort to ‘bring it on.’
Once we all see that Bush believes himself to be the Antichrist, co-starring Karl as the False Prophet, everything will make sense to the rest of us.
See? You have to read THEIR playbook.
Secret fascist plotters are financing the ABC propaganda.
Probably Richard Scaife and his cohorts.
I would dump the Disney stock before it bottoms out.
A libel suit from Clinton may be just what these evil and demented clowns are hoping for. How better to provide the perfect distraction from Iraq and Afghanistan in the run up to the election? Catapult him back into the headlines and that’s what everyone will be talking about.

A boycott encourages future accountability, via the mechanism of consumer payback: You revise history, you lose money.
It’s the corporate version of “If you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime.” It sends a message: actions have consequences.
Regardless of whether or not there’s an official boycott, I’m not buying anything Disney for at least a year.
WHY did W/the VP insist that none of whatever they had to say about 9-11 was not on record?
What did they say? No leaks on it? Nothing?
I went to see the hole where the towers used to be. Surgical. It does defy the imagination that the buildings came straight down after being hit by jet liners.
So what did those f***ers have to say that could not be on record?
I guess that is not in the film tonight (?) either. No speculation, nothing made up, no “spur of the moment inspiration” or anything like that, from the actors, producers, script supervisors.
Wassup w/that?
Maybe it’s time for Hollywood to do a biography of Richard Mellon Scaife- wonder if he qualifies as a public figure?
Hmm, is Richard Mellon Scaife mixed in The Path to 9/11?
Operation Mockingbird: CIA Media Manipulation
In the mid-1970s, at this historic low point in American conservatism, the CIA began a major campaign to turn corporate fortunes around.
They did this in several ways. First, they helped create numerous foundations to finance their domestic operations. Even before 1973, the CIA had co-opted the most famous ones, like the Ford, Rockefeller and Carnegie Foundations. But after 1973, they created more. One of their most notorious recruits was billionaire Richard Mellon Scaife. During World War II, Scaife’s father served in the OSS, the forerunner of the CIA. By his mid-twenties, both of Scaife’s parents had died, and he inherited a fortune under four foundations: the Carthage Foundation, the Sarah Scaife Foundation, the Scaife Family Foundations and the Allegheny Foundation. In the early 1970s, Scaife was encouraged by CIA agent Frank Barnett to begin investing his fortune to fight the “Soviet menace.” (18) From 1973 to 1975, Scaife ran Forum World Features, a foreign news service used as a front to disseminate CIA propaganda around the world. Shortly afterwards he began donating millions to fund the New Right.

I’m really not one for the tinfoil, but lately I have been wondering…who exactly owned the property in the area of the towers when they came down? Who owns the land now that’s being redeveloped? Ripping up downtown Manhattan for new development is not an easy thing to get done, and I’m curious who “benefitted” from the untimely demolition.
I never took the conspiracy theories seriously after 911…but seeing how this administration has shown it is capable of just about anything, it makes me wonder now.
rwcole @

I’d sure as hell watch it.
Especially if Michael Moore had anything to do with it.
Kurt @ 25
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey owns the land. Larry Silverstein holds the leases on the properties.
So Condi and Darth are STILL claiming that Iraq had ties to al Qaeda? Bwaaaaaaah!
They are SO DENSE they’re still trying to run the same old plays from the GOP playbook – NEVER ADMIT TO ANYTHING! In the face of IRREFUTABLE evidence, REFUTE! In the face of irrepressible opposition, oppose!
It will probably never penetrate that the playbook doesn’t work anymore – they don’t seem to have any idea that the American people dislike and distrust them.
And so it goes after the Senate Intelligence report – those two look like desperate, dishonest fools.
Love it!
what I am loving is that although the Rebugnicans have stacked the courts with the best judges their money could buy, they have NO influence over international law. MWA HA HA
A person defamed may sue WHEREVER they were defamed and subject to the laws of the land in which the defamation occurred.
HOLD ON TO YOUR BUTTS. . .
So, at American Airlines, it’s September 11th. Just like yesterday’s email, today’s is dated tomorrow. WTF?
So is this the prepared, canned AA response, knowing their airline’d be featured erroneously in the first five minutes of PT911? Thus, their canned response is dated 9/11/06, since the complaints would be pouring in tomorrow, after airtime?

ROTFLMAO!
No, they are still using the playbook. When you repeat lies often enough, people will believe them.
It was kind of a wacky week with W. Lots of admissions. All of a sudden. So maybe they are trying to keep the press off the movie?
It is getting crazy. And I guess the morgue in Baghdad had to revise their death figures by a factor of three, ie: not 500 something, but 1500 something this week.
Yes, I think the “transfer of power” in Iraq is going well. Sorry. I know. I’m snarking alone again.
Hmmm. I really thought ABC would have pulled the thing by now. Sounds like they’ve already run it in Australia and NZ, and it’s coming up in Britain. I can’t see this as a Rovian plot to “trick” Clinton into suing ABC, and if it is, I don’t think it’s going to play out that way. I think Berger (for sure) and Albright (maybe) will be the first ones to sue. Clinton will merely shake his head, strongly defend his people, and muse sadly about how hard he tried to warn ABC that they were WAY out on a limb with this. The settlement with Bill will come later, and it may wind up being a backroom sort of thing.

1.) Let me get this straight, you want to still watch your ABC/Disney but rig the machines to say you don’t? What character!
2.) The boycott is to get their attention, then hammer them with e-mails, letters, phone calls and lawsuits. Never stop. ABC/Disney are toast. Note to DLC: this could happen to you. Leave us stranded here and we will make you irrelevant.
3.) “I want to save the world and still watch my shows.” What a patriot!
4.) Ooh, a *scrapbook* project, how sweet! ‘Scuse me while I draft another e-mail to the symphony to ask them to dump any Disney stock in their portfolio.
Grrrrrr
More here.
I love the photo they watertiger used.
See how Clinton is clearly first out the door, and Dubya can’t stand it? Look at the look on his face! See how’s he’s coming out sideways to try and beat him out of the door? Like a little kid, “No! You can’t be in front of me! Waaah!)
And if you look very carefully, you can see just the smallest of smirks on Clinton’s face, as if he’s thinking, “Putz.”
Remember to get your camoflage mouse ears. You’ll want to have them as we continue to watch the govt.s version of It’s a Small World. As the US drops more and more bombs across Islamic Countries, aided and abetted by the ABC/Disney propaganda empire, it is only fitting that we remember. With every explosion we can tip our camoflage ears and properly credit them for this sly plan to diminish the world and it’s cultures living in the vicinity of oil deposits. Won’t it be great, we’ll all feel connected by the Disney brand. Who ever thought they’d be generous enough to offer it up for the government? Mickey will never be the same after this, maybe they should call him Military Mouse, and we can all be MousekaFears. Anyway, don’t you think the kids will look darling wearing their camoflage ears? Why it’ll be almost as patriotic as flying the flag.

The principal beneficiary was the Silverstein Group. They held the leases on the towers (with a clause that they would be paid the replacement cost of the towers in the event of a terrorist act and they were refunded the money they had put down on the lease because the lease term could not be completed). They also owned WTC 7 outright.
Not long after the insurance settlement talks began, they went into court, demanding that the insurers pay them twice the value of the two buildings, since they claimed that two airplanes were two separate terrorist attacks. The jury found in Silverstein’s favor. Haven’t heard if the group of insurers have appealed or not.
Joe C (189) previous thread. Conason?
In case you haven’t seen this on Crooks and Liars they link to a diary on DKos to explain how to hurt ABC in the “Tivo, DVR and Comcast minute by minute data” used for a new rating system.
Liberal Heart @ 6
Here’s a goal. If ABC airs this GOP propaganda piece the goal of the boycott should be for ABC News to do a prime-time slap-down investigation and report
1. showing each falsifed scene
2. identifying the true facts
3. explaining exactly who was responsible for the falsehoods,
4. explaining why the falsehoods were propogated, and
5. explaining who was supposed to benefit or be harmed.
How’s that for a tangible specific goal for a boycott?
watertiger @ 41
Oh, Yeah, he’s thinking, “Putz”, too!
Love it!
Some thoughts for action:
Boycott ABC with us [we’ve watched ABC Nightly for decades. No more.]
Boycott Disney with us.
A friend emailed me he was cancelling a Disney VISA card, which prompts the thought: track Scaife-owned credit cards [MBNA?], cancel and find a new provider.
Also in the money dept: financing this smear, YWAM? { Shepherd’s Purse? {WH faith-based initiatives? { we the taxpayers?
Boycott anything with Patricia Heaton in it.
Can’t trust ABC’s crockumenaries, can’t trust ABC News.
With a nod to Colbert, the Mouse is dead to me.
In a perfect (or just a better) world, Putz would be holding the door for the military man.

OT – Neal Fink at MyLeftNutmeg does some research and discovers that Lieberman’s staff violated ethics rules in revealing the email of a constituent to the press. Please call the appropriate numbers in Neal’s article to register a complaint with the Senate. Neal’s article is posted below:
“Lieberman Violates Senate Ethics Rules
by: Neal Fink
Sun Sep 10, 2006 at 15:45:07 PM EDT
Lieberman for Lieberman is now venturing beyond the Karl Rove book of dirty ticks and coming up with a few of their own. Their latest attempt to dodge the real issues and smear Democratic Candidate Ned Lamont involved disclosing an e-mail sent by Mr. Lamont to Senator SoreLoserman back in 1998. Spazeboy covered the details in a previous post.
Both the traditional media and the blogs have disected the content of Mr. Lamont’s e-mail, coming to various conclusions as to its intended message. A few discussed the propriety of Lieberman publishing an e-mail sent by a constituent to his official email address at senate.gov. The latter question is the one of concern to me. It didn’t take much effort to conclude that that Lieberman’s disclosure of Mr. Lamont’s e-mail violated multiple Senate Ethics rules. Yes, once again Joe Hypocrite flaunts the rules while still trying to maintain his image as the King of Morality.
Details after the flip…
Neal Fink :: Lieberman Violates Senate Ethics Rules
Some of you may agree that the term “Senate Ethics” is an oxymoron, but there is in fact an Ethics Committee which defines and publishes standards of conduct for Senators. You can download the entire Senate Ethics Manual from the Senate web site at http://ethics.senate…. Perhaps someone can forward that link to Lieberman, Gerstein, et al.
In case you don’t feel like reading the 500 page manual, here are some of the relevant details. The most significant and obvious violation appears in Chapter 7, page 174:
The Rules Committee has issued an Internet policy to provide guidance to Senate offices concerning Senate Member, officer, and employee responsibilities in using Internet services provided by the Senate. The specifics of the July 22, 1996 policy and a November 14, 1996 update are set forth in Appendix K in this Manual. Briefly, Senate Internet services may only be used for official purposes. The use of the Senate Internet for personal, promotional, commercial, or partisan political purposes is prohibited.
That seems pretty black and white to me. The dates are significant as well. A few savvy bloggers noted that Lieberman’s Senate web site has a privacy statement that promises to keep constituent e-mails confidential. However, no one knows whether this privacy policy existed in 1998 when Mr. Lamont sent his e-mail. However, the Senate Ethics policy went into effect in 1996, two years before the e-mail in question.
Other sections of the Ethics Manual make it clear that official Senate e-mail addresses are not to be used for campaign purposes. Here’s an example from a slightly different context, which makes the Ethics committee’s position quite clear. Chapter 6, Page 151:
Unsolicited e-mail which asks a campaign-related question— As in the case of unsolicited telephone calls concerning campaign matters, a Senate office that receives an unsolicited e-mail inquiry on a campaign-related question may inform the sender that the communication was addressed to the Senate office, which is not related to the Senator’s campaign, and that, if the sender wishes, the campaign may be contacted at its e-mail address, mailing address, or telephone number. Alternatively, the message may be treated as misdirected mail and simply forwarded to the campaign (in many instances this may involve less involvement of Senate time or facilities than providing the correct address, etc.).
Again, remarkably clear for a document written by politicians. The Ethics rules require a very clear line between official Senate business e-mail and campaign e-mail.
Although the details of who dug up this e-mail are not available, it is likely that the discovery and release of this e-mail involved other violations of Senate Ethics rules. For example, if a staff member in Lieberman’s office performed the search of office e-mail archives, multiple violations would have occured, including rules that prohibit Senate staffers from doing campaign work from an official Senate office and use of government computer systems for non-official Senate business.
In addition to the Ethics Manual, the US Senate Code of Conduct reinforces some of these issues. From Senate Rule 41.1, 31 USC 1301(a), and 18 USC 601-607 (Criminal Statutes); IRs 154, 263, 349, 387 (relevant sections in bold, added):
Staff may engage in volunteer campaign work only on their own time; compensated campaign work must be approved by supervising Senator.
Staff MAY NOT solicit, receive, have custody of, or distribute federal campaign contributions unless they are one of three political fund designees, and then only for certain campaign
committees. Such political fund designees must file Form 41.1 and also file an annual public financial disclosure report.
Senate space and equipment may not be used for campaign activities.
Staff may not contribute or make advances to their supervising Senator’s campaign.
Contributions may not be solicited on, or for delivery to, Senate property.
Note: Certain moratorium periods apply to use of Senate facilities/frank/official expenses before primaries and elections.
The issue of “Senate space and equipment” is significant. Since official Senate e-mail should never exist on a private computer, it would be impossible for anyone, including Senator Lieberman, to have found this e-mail and forwarded it to the press without having used Senate equipment.

Kurt, we’ve been conditioned to sneer at conspiracy theories through media. Not a healthy thing. Just because you have a theory, doesn’t mean there isn’t a conspiracy. To quote a fictional character (I learned how on ABC), “Ignorance is not stupidity, but it might as well be.” and how can we make good decisions without good information?

No Fear.
That should be the mantra from here on out.
No Fear. No more hand-wringing over whether speaking out jeopardizes Democratic chances at anything. Speak out. Act Out. Lash out. Point Out. Vote. Talk to strangers. Knock on doors.
Have No Fear.
If our men and women can put it all on the line for a war built on lies, the least we can do is fight for them, fight for their right not to have to die for a lie. And fight for our own right to have the country we love free from the poison that is the Bush administration and all their truly evil cohorts.
No Fear. No More.

If you’re looking for a real documentary to watch tonight, I want to second the suggestion to see the CBS program. It is astonishing in its clarity, integrity, and emotional truth. It never veers into sensationalism or gratuitous embellishment. It is straight up documentry. The fact that it was filmed by two French men makes it especially poignant because they are so involved in very moment and with every person they come in contact with – you really experience how much the world was with us on that day. You will be very moved. It is astonishing.

LOL I’m going to watch this POS only so I can critique it. I’ve read The Cell and will be able to tell fact from fiction/slander/propaganda.

I gather you aren’t familiar with the photo (before the Photoshopping, that is)? They aren’t coming out, they’re going in. Into the Clinton library. For the opening.

This seems just as worthwhile as boycotting Disney.
WT, you and Little Bill are killing me. To death.

Such a true observation! None of the WMD, fight terrorism, restore democracy “reasons” had anything to do with starting this war. It was quite simply done to test American military might with all it’s complementary perks like war profiteering and power usurpation.

No! It’s Out! Out!
They’re going Out, into a Sunrise!

9/11 should be a day to remember our dead citizens and support their families. The event has been co-opted. Why would anyone show such a lack of respect to these people? Who would dare to stand upon their funeral pyre and use it for their megaphone? Why would such a thing be done? There were fathers, brothers and co-workers down on that pile looking for their loved ones bodies for months. This act of individual respect for the dead was solemn, wrenching and right. Dignifying the dead with such heartfelt sincerity spoke to the nation and world. We all understood the massive individual and collective loss. We stood together, we vowed not to forget. Would that we had the leadership that could step out of the way and allow a genuine memorial tribute. What we do have is a group of people perfectly willing to stand upon the departed souls and families, exploiting events to their own benefit. It takes a special kind of parasite to steal from the dead.
I don’t know if it’s been said before in the myriad of posts, but I think we’re really onto something with the mouse ears on all the Bushies. I figure it will fade away as we move on to new scandals and crises, but I would love to see it last into perpetuity. Make the connection permanent between Disney, Mickey Mouse and Bush. It’s perfect.
September 11th was the triggering event that let the neocons Dubya had surrounded himself with take the PNAC plan for a “Pax Americana” (a phrase the 2000 report uses several times, describing it as a “strategic goal”) off the bookshelf of right-wing war porn and turn it into America’s official foreign policy.
FROM SWOPA: THIS IS HOW YOU KNOW THAT 9/11 WAS AN INSIDE JOB. THEY PLANNED IT AND DID IT; THEY DIDN’T JUST LET IT HAPPEN. BUSH AND CHENEY DID 9/11 SO THEY COULD START THE “LONG WAR.”
Justintime (80), the link has a comment that a local CBS affiliate will delay airing CBS 9/11 special from 8 P.M. to 11 P.M. (geordie @ 10:47 PDT).
Work at that link is astounding.

TIVO OWNERS: DOWNRATE ALL ABC PROGRAMMING.
Remote Smackdown: Downrate ABC/Disney Programs
by a lynn

A world of ABC armchair hurt was right at my rating fingertips and waiting for me in my remote…
They picked the wrong time in the ratings and new show launch calendar to mess with us! I used to work for Fox back when they launched the Simpsons into the Cosby time slot. Afterwards, I worked for 3 large ad firms – two of them national top ten, as a broadcast media buyer.
This is a crucial ratings time for the networks as they are gauging their influence, market share and advertising rate buys in the run up to the new season programs. Those buys and rates are set in advance. The new rating scheme is measured regularly with Tivo, DVR and Comcast minute by minute data. It’s a whole new playing field compared with the slow old Nielsen models.
Downrate all ABC programs (even if blocked) with your box. Let your fingers do the minute by minute gauged ratings slam. My box allows up to three “thumbs down.” What’s your setup?
Thumbs Down lets you give shows you don’t like a negative rating. You can give a show up to three thumbs down. These ratings are used by the DVR to choose programs to record for TiVo Suggestions.
a lynn’s diary :: ::
How have ratings morphed with DVR today? Check your new armchair impact:
“For 20-something years, the metric has been live and VCR viewing, but the DVR allows for the measurement of playback that the VCR never did,” said Michael Shaw, president for sales at the ABC Television Network in New York, part of the Walt Disney Company.
Mr. Shaw cited a statistic from Nielsen about the Jan. 15 episode of “Grey’s Anatomy.” The episode drew a rating of 8.5 among 18-to-49-year-old viewers who watched it live, he said, which means that 8.5 percent of television households in that group saw the episode as it was broadcast. When the data was expanded to include live plus seven days, Mr. Shaw said, the rating rose to 8.7.
Mostly notable programs:
– Sports: they have paid for licenses to cover (big$$$)
– Primetime Moneymakers: Grey’s Anatomy, Boston Legal, Desperate Housewives etc.
– New launches: Six Degrees, and Dancing with the Stars etc.
– Daytime Standards: All My Children, Oprah
– Big News: George Stephanopolous, 20/20, Primetime etc.
WHO OWNS THE TOWERS AND HOW PROFITED? EXCLT QUESTIONS: the owner made a fortune off 9/11. insured it for “terror” before 9/11 and hired Neil Bush’s security firm to handle security for it.

Silverstein Makes a Huge
Profit off of the 9/11 Attacks
Six months before the 9/11 attacks the World Trade Center was “privatized” by being leased to a private sector developer. The lease was purchased by the Silverstein Group for $3.2 billion. “This is a dream come true,” Larry Silverstein said. “We will be in control of a prized asset, and we will seek to develop its potential, raising it to new heights.”
But the World Trade Towers were not the real estate plum we are led to believe.
From an economic standpoint, the trade center — subsidized since its inception — has never functioned, nor was it intended to function, unprotected in the rough-and-tumble real estate marketplace. [BusinessWeek]
How could Silverstein Group have been ignorant of this?
Also, the towers required some $200 million in renovations and improvements, most of which related to removal and replacement of building materials declared to be health hazards in the years since the towers were built.
It was well-known by the city of New York that the WTC was an asbestos bombshell. For years, the Port Authority treated the building like an aging dinosaur, attempting on several occasions to get permits to demolish the building for liability reasons, but being turned down due the known asbestos problem. Further, it was well-known the only reason the building was still standing until 9/11 was because it was too costly to disassemble the twin towers floor by floor since the Port Authority was prohibited legally from demolishing the buildings. [Arctic Beacon]
Other New York developers had been driven into bankruptcy by the costly mandated renovations, and $200 million represented an entire year’s worth of revenues from the World Trade Towers.
The perfect collapse of the twin towers changed the picture.
Chicago Tom,
I don’t have Tivo. I do have a DVR through Comcast. Is there a way to do it with that hardware?
Consistent with the Drudge headline I mentioned earlier, Atrios is stating that the movie is scheduled to shrink by half an hour:
“The Shrinking Movie
ABC says that Disney 911 is only lasting from 8-10:30 now, one half hour less than originally scheduled”
http://www.atrios.blogspot.com/
Instead of renovation, Silverstein is rebuilding, funded by the insurance coverage on the property which ‘fortuitously’ covered acts of terrorism. Even better, Silverstein filed TWO insurance claims for the maximum amount of the policy, based on the two, in Silverstein’s view, separate attacks. The total potential payout is $7.1 billion, more than enough to build a fabulous new complex and leave a hefty profit for the Silverstein Group, including Larry Silverstein himself.
As reported in The Washington Post, the insurance company, Swiss Re, has gone to court to argue that the 9/11 disaster was only one attack, not two and that therefore the insurance payout should be limited to $3.55 billion, still enough to rebuild the complex.
Update: WTC Leaseholder May Collect Up To $4.6B
A federal jury on Monday ruled that the assault on the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center was in fact two occurrences for insurance purposes. The finding in U.S. District Court in Manhattan means leaseholder Larry Silverstein may collect up to $4.6 billion, according to reports. [Forbes.com 12/06/04]
The result of court ruling: Silverstein makes a huge profit off of the 9/11 attacks.
dunno. post question to dailykos, that’s where i got it from

Lotus, are you out there? I just read about that huge earthquake in your region. Did you feel it? Everything OK?
hopefully someone else has gotten to the heart of this matter also:
poppy bush = wimp
gwbush = tough guy cowboy image to cover up the fact that he’s an even bigger wimp
seriously, folks, i’d really like to see the wimp theme go around again and watch w implode. the wimp thing drove them crazy when poppy was prez, hence the overcompensated mascu-lingering of w.
so what if, despite all that, the wimp lives again?
c’mon, everybody, say it with me:
THE W STANDS FOR WIMP
ABC-TV national news is doing a story about the “controversial miniseries about 9/11″ coming up …
speaking of pnac…
i, personally, have been trying to de-couple the importance of pnac from the 9/11 inside job contentions.
people need to understand the significance of pnac without hearing it and immediately closing their minds because they don’t want to hear the scary stuff they refuse to believe.
because the fact is this: regardless of who was responsible, pnac had a plan to enforce a radical ideology on america. this is fact, and the statement of such is readily available on pnac’s website. the implementation of this plan was completely dependent on a catastrophic event occurring.
in other words, it doesn’t matter if they made it happen — they WANTED it to happen. it gave them the opportunity to enact their plan.
it’s not like 9/11 happened and they all of the sudden forgot their plan, devised a year prior. hell, cheney goes so far as to admit it today on meet the press, when he says, “if we had it to do over again, we’d do exactly the same thing.”
of course they’d do exactly the same thing.
that was the plan.
Zip in and out:
The CBS docu won’t start at 8:00 E because “60 Minutes will be shown in its entirety” after the U.S. Open (which is still going on) . . .
Is there a designated ‘watcher’ for the hackumentary?
This September surprise, “The Path to 9/11,” is just a prelude to whatever surprise the wingnuts have planned for October.
Why else do you think the Republicans behind this fraudulent ABC/Disney/Karl Rove production are so adamant that it be run?
So the fuckwit thinks he’s in the Independence Day movie now?
The World looks on, embarrassed, and thinks…The President of The United States of America is a fucking Idiot!

correction- the world KNOWS the potus is a fucking idiot.
last night gore was on tv here (i live in australia) and one of my housemates asks, “is that the guy that lost to bush in 2000?”
“yep…well ‘lost’ is a relative term,” i said.
“unbelievable. they picked a total freaking idiot over that guy? what’s wrong with you yanks? it shouldn’t have even been close.”
“yep,” i said.
Interesting program note from the(almost) Left Coast. The lead-in to Pathetic 9-11 was a Billy(gotta watch them Jews) Grahman CRUSADE….Kind of a package deal for the mouth breathing viewers…LOL
