Update below
Despite the vociferous and righteous public outcry against ABC’s "Path to 9/11" docudrama, it still appears that Disney honcho Robert Iger is choosing to air a politicized and inaccurate account of our great American tragedy. This travesty of a film, which is being fronted by only the Republican 9/11 Commission co-chair Thomas Kean (who’s now making money off that role as paid consultant on this project), was initiated by Loren and David Cunningham and their right-wing Christian missionary group (YWAM) in tandem with its auxiliary arm, The Film Institute, and promoted by uber-wingnut David Horowitz. The Center for Popular Culture, Horowitz’s LA-based group, announced two years ago that it would launch a widespread PR campaign to blame Bill Clinton for the 9/11 attacks. Read more at Seeingtheforest:
According to Max Blumenthal at Huffington Post, Republican strategist (and Karl Rove friend) David Horowitz was involved from the start in ABC’s Path to 9/11 smear blaming Clinton for 9/11. This is significant because Horowitz has been involved for some time in a strategic PR effort to shift blame for 9/11 from Bush to Clinton. According to a Feb. 26, 2002 story in O’Dwyer’s PR Daily, titled "PR CAMPAIGN BLAMES CLINTON FOR SEPT. 11 ATTACKS",
The Center for the Study of Popular Culture, in Los Angeles, has begun a PR campaign to pin the blame of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the Clinton Administration.
The Center has mailed copies of David Horowitz’s new pamphlet entitled "How the Left Undermined America’s Security," to about 1,500 media outlets on Feb. 19. Horowitz is president of the Center.
The 46-page pamphlet charges that the U.S. national security interests were undermined by the left, leading to the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11
Joe Conason has been reporting on this blame-Clinton-for-9/11 cabal since 2002, and you can get more background here. (sorry about the ad)
Disney/ABC’s blatant refusal to honor the requests of the citizens of this country–from the left and the right–should serve as a wake-up call for all Americans to look closely at what has become of our media, and most importantly, to our publicly-licensed airwaves, off which Mr. Iger and his conglomerate ilk make billions. The American public–led by the progressive blogs and progressive membership groups, then media, then even conservatives–came together to call out ABC over their irresponsible disregard for the integrity of our national memory concerning events that led to the attacks on 9/11. But this effort has fallen on deaf ears. Iger even thinks he’s above the reproach of the 9/11 Families!
September 9, 2006
Dear Mr. Iger,
I have seen the advertisements for and read the press coverage of ABC’s film, “The Path to 9/11,” that your network plans to air this Sunday and Monday to coincide with the fifth anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks. I am writing to express my concern and deep reservations about this film and to ask you, out of respect for the victims of 9/11 and their families, not to air it.
My wife worked for the Walt Disney Corporation and was a victim of the terrorist attacks as a passenger on American Airlines Flight 11. I have great respect for you and your company and I know that you must have worked hard to make a good film. Admittedly, I have not seen it. However, accounts from those who have suggest that it contains inaccurate and invented scenes. It seems to me that fictionalizing this tragedy does not honor the memory of those who were lost on September 11th.
Given the gravity of this event for our nation and the personal loss I suffered, I believe it is critically important that we do everything possible to prevent another 9/11. That begins with making sure that we are united in our understanding of what we could have done better in the years, months and weeks leading up to the attacks of 2001. I am deeply concerned that Americans will watch this film and not fully understand – or be led to misunderstand – the true history of this tragedy.
I feel the 9/11 Commission Report was a correct and very responsible accounting of the terrorist attacks of 2001. Since “The Path to 9/11” deviates from this report in key instances, I strongly and respectfully urge you not to air this film.
Sincerely,
John Beug
We must take the energy and awareness created over the last week and funnel it into meaningful ways of taking back control of OUR media. Yes, we must organize boycotts of Disney and ABC, and keep up the pressure. We must demand that ABC give equal time to critics of "Path to 9/11." We can propose programming with historians and investigators, and those who were there as a counter-balance in the coming weeks. We must push ABC News to bring a balanced account of the controversy over their network’s Path to Shame (h/t LATimes). We must do all of these things, but more importantly, we must step back and look at the big picture concerning the need for reform of our whorish corporate media.
It is time for America to join a concerted media reform movement, so the Igers of this world are kept in check. Please visit the sites below and see the hard work these organizations are doing. Join their lists. Donate money. Offer your knowledge and talents to their tremendouse efforts to save our democracy through media reform.
With the help of MediaChannel, we can also offer an alternative to ABC’s Path to Shame on Sunday and Monday nights. Director David Olson tells me they will offer up, for free viewing, the entire film "9/11 Press for Truth," which was just released this week. Without $40 million in corporate backing, this film needs the support of the netroots to help provide a balance to ABC’s airbrushing of history. The filmmakers deserve our support, as they’ve done the hard work of bringing to the screen the voices of the 9/11 families, and synthesized more than 7000 media reports with the help of Paul Thompson, author of The Complete 9/11 Timeline. Let’s do all we can to get the netroots driving traffic to MediaChannel this weekend to watch this movie.
On Monday, in Washington, DC, the "9/11 Press for Truth" filmmakers and the 9/11 families will hold a press conference at the National Press Club, too, launching a campaign calling for a new investigation. Tell the media to go! From the film’s producers:
Polls now show that a majority of Americans support a new investigation. “Once again,” says producer Kyle Hence, “the 9/11 families will play a crucial role in galvanizing the public’s will to confront a combative administration, a pliant Congress and an apathetic media corps that has studiously avoided dealing with countervailing facts, inconvenient evidence and excessive secrecy. The message these families bring must be heard, loud and clear. They deserve answers.”
A lobbying campaign calling for a new investigation will be launched on September 5th, the day of DVD release, and continue into the week of September 11th, during which every member of Congress will receive a copy of the documentary.
Given the damage Thomas Kean has now done to the bi-partisan excuse for an effort that is the 9/11 Commission Report, I agree more than ever before that we need a full and independent investigation into what really happened, so I salute these "Press for Truth" folks’ efforts whole-heartedly.
But let’s not stop at just watching their movie and promoting it to the netroots and media. Just as Scholastic is providing lesson plans, based on "Path to 9/11" to 100,000 teachers around the country, let’s come up with our own campaign to get "Press for Truth" into the schools, too.
Let’s call on National Education Association president Reg Weaver and his 3.2 million members to get the word out to all our public schools. The NEA could provide toolkits online to teachers based on this film, so that kids can compare and contrast ABC’s fraud with real reporting. Perhaps the good folks at Center for Media and Democracy, including Sheldon Rampton and John Stauber, can help to create the lesson plans that the NEA could offer.
And Steve Jobs: Why don’t you stand up and do the right thing here, too? Get your Apple folks to pay these hardworking "Press for Truth" filmmakers some money for the rights to provide free downloads via ipods–and market the hell out of that effort, too, please. Afterall, how much did you pay Disney/ABC for the rights to pawn off "Path to 9/11" to ipod owners?
Folks, we only learned about this whole mess last Friday, and we’ve done a tremendous job organizing and getting the word out to people. I don’t want to see that energy dissipate. Let’s find ways, as we keep the pressure on Disney/ABC, to fight the larger battle of media reform, and to reward filmmakers who are trying so hard to get the truth out.
You with me?
Aravosis is suggesting another great action, regarding American Airlines, over at Americablog today.

Boycott ABC!
Jennifer,
scanned your post and I’m gonna go back and read it through. Just wanted to point out that some of us are watching ABC football. For the past three hours of coverage of a fairly important (Oklahoma-Washington) game, there has been no mention of PT911. Had they been running promos yesterday or earlier?
I’m in.
Don’t forget that Preznit 9/11Bullhorn will be interrupting Americans (and the world who watches wondering WTF!?) during ABC’s propadrama.
Also, go here http://onegoodmove.org/1gm/ scoll down, click on the ‘Bill Maher – New Rules’ and watch Bill rip away @ W. Thnx Mr. Maher, I needed that!
I’m in.
Hi Tom– So writing letters and threatening boycotts for a network who is about to broadcast lies counts as being against free speech? Come on- you want to be taken seriously don’t you?
Bill Clinton responsible for 9/11? I don’t think so. Let’s see an investigation into the MSM’s accountability into their collusion and support for the Bush lies which led to Iraq. Damn CBS, NBC and ABC for there help in bringing on the Iraq War and the Israeli (and Bush sanctioned) invasion of Lebanon.
People who don’t favor free speech do things like prohibit demonstrations in the vicinity of the president.
no LieberChow for the obvious trolls, please !
Does anyone have Johnny Depp’s e-mail, snail mail or agent’s address? He has a lot riding on Pirates Three – a Disney flick – and, I believe, hates bush.
Tom@4, get a life,So Bush says repugs will still be in control after Nov.2006.Then I suggest we do what other 3rd world countries, have a coup. I know we are not supposed to hate, but this MAN??? makes it impossible. ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh (I feel better now.)sigh
You can host a house party or arrange for a community screening of 9/11 Press for Truth.
http://911pressfortruth.com/volunteer
I have an e-mail out requesting dates from my friends/associates asking when they are free to set up a screening. While I have a captive audience in my house, I will let them know about your plan Jennifer.
With you, Jen, you bet!
Someone told me Steve Jobs’ email is steve at apple dot com. Can anyone confirm? It seems too simple for someone w/ such a high profile.
Jennifer, you are fantastic. Thank you for organizing and pointing us in the right direction this entire week. I have received responses from approximately half of the ABC network sponsors I’ve emailed (thanks to Benjamin at http://birdoblog.birdobot.com/disney_propaganda for that great list!). I also received a late-Friday nite response from the GM of owned&operated KGO-7 in San Francisco. I’ve heard from a handful of KGO’s local advertisers — one said they agree with my views and have passed their concerns and mine up the national advertising heirarchy.
John Aravosis is watching PT911 and has told his readers about the first few minutes, in which the Boston ticket counter employees of American Airlines, and the airline itself, are libeled. I believe this presents an opportunity to engage a powerful corporate ally in our fight against the Mouse.
EPU’d and re-presented for your consideration:

Here’s another angle of attack on ABC/Disney — let’s enlist the good people at American Airlines, ask them to protect their brand and their Boston employees from libel.
Here’s the comment I wrote at the CONTACT US/CUSTOMER SERVICE tab at http://www.aa.com/
Please take a moment to enlist a potential ally in our fight with the Mouse. American Airlines really could engage on this in the next 36 hours if enough emails reach them through their website, don’t you think? While ABC apparently doesn’t care about pissing off Albright, Berger, Clinton, and a bunch of lefty bloggers — they might think twice about pissing off another Corporation.
Try it.
It’s entirely possible that emails with the word “highjacker” will be flagged by their computers for immediate handling, raising the level of concern and engaging a human person. Please consider this option to engage a Corporation in our fight against a Corporation.
Thanks again, Jennifer — your slogging this week has been inspirational to many more people than you will ever know! You are right, let’s take back our airwaves and our media. And, we may get our country back in the bargain!

I still hope they air it. The defamation trial will be must-see TV, and at the end of it, the only organization with the rights to Mickey Mouse will be the Clinton Library.
Accuracy Aside, ABC’s ‘9/11′ Deserves to Bomb:

(Need to remind myself that 99.9% of “TV Movies” blow . . . . )
Boycott Disney.
Boycott Disney.
Boycott Disney.
I repeat:
Boycott Disney.
And let them know you’re going to do that.
One suggestion made at DKos yesterday for those of us who have TIVO or DVR machines is to do the thumbs down on ABC programs. Advertiser,s it seems, do pay attention to such things.
As for curricula, Facing History and Ourselves often does great work in this regard. They might be willing to do something for this.
A commenter elsewhere also recommended calling your cable company on the phone and asking them to help you block ABC, ABC Family, ESPN, and the Disney Channel from your television. Go slow! Take time with the customer service phone people; supervisors will notice; productivity will slow; the cable company might be pissed at ABC.
You can e-mail Jobs at leadership@apple.com…
Jobs is concerned in an, ahem, paramount way about the value of his brand names.
He is not concerned over 9/11. Move a day forward, though, and God Hisself will be blowing bells and ringing whistles for the latest revamped iPod dog ‘n’ pony show.
It is on that day we’ll see with the iTunes movie store update whether “Path to 9/11″ will be made available for downloads there.
Jobs is too big a narcissist to care about the country, the truth or the personal and global effects of 9/11.
However… if this botch stains any of his hardware (which, if you own a new Apple laptop, you know they can stain themselves quite nicely), expect some after the fact action.
Thanks for the latest in a great series of posts here at FDL.
Here’s some background on Tom Kean:
Kean family roots go back to NJ politics in 1770s.
Kean typical Eastern Establishment Republican, somewhat liberal on social issues, wrote book about inclusive politics.
Educated at Princeton, history major. Masters from Columbia Teacher’s College.
High school history teacher, with family money.
Served in state legislature, rising to leadership position [IIRC Speaker of the Assembly].
Elected governor in 1981.
Mostly governed as “borrow and spend” (method used later by Christie Whitman) Republican, leaving behind huge budget deficit for next governor, Jim Florio [who was punished by voters for raising taxes to balance state budget, getting voted out after one term].
Kean left office with popularity intact, and became president of Drew University, a private school founded with an affiliation with the Methodist Church.
Has served on lots of commissions and special panels, especially dealing with education.
These people are busier than a cat trying to bury shit on a hot tin roof covering their asses.
Let’s make some retroactive laws to cover our asses for all the illegal shit we have been doing.
History? Re-write it.
Blame Clinton.
Abramoff?
Don’t know him.
Out a NOC CIA agent?
Why sure!
Phony up some intel so we can invade a soveriegn nation?
What’s the hold up?

Jaw-dropping that a global corporation can willingly corkscrew itself into the ground like this … or even for one minute contemplate doing so.
Have they all completely parted their moorings?
Does anyone know when the next sweeps week is? Doesn’t the amount of viewers each show gets during this week affect how much money a network charges its advertisers? If we all mousecotted ABC during the entire sweeps week- would it have a significant impact?
chimezatmidnight @ 21
Careful now, I am currently typing this an a lovely iMac.
Regardless, let Disney, Apple, & ABC know that you’re pissed.
could i hear a bit more about the free viewing of “9-11 Press for Truth”?
I am with you. And I agree with this part of your post where you recognize that the problem is beyond Disney/ABC.
For decades now our media has increasingly answered to large corporations whose concerns are more and more detached from the economic and other concerns of average people. This is going to be a big issue.
Since we have neither cable or satellite, I can’t get ESPN, so won’t be watching football. I cannot tolerate the sound of Bush’s voice, and can’t stand to look at him either, so I won’t be watching or listening to him on any channel.
I have Spotlighted all of these posts to my local ABC affiliate, as well as to reporters, hoping to appeal to some deeply buried remembrance of what reporters are supposed to do with information.
Will never, ever feel the same way about Disney, or anything associated with it. Ever.
I hope the film tanks like nothing has ever tanked before. I hope the stockholders give Disney a loud piece of their minds about this enormous expenditure, that has now been exposed as propaganda. I hope ABC’s ratings go into free-fall. I hope ABC employees quit before they will allow themselves to shill for this piece of crap.
I’ve been reading some of the coverage of the Senate Reports that were issued yesterday, and while I should not be surprised at how the GOP is spinning it, I am pretty gobsmacked at how easily they dismiss the findings. Is it fear of what admitting the truth would mean? Or fear that the glory days are O-V-E-R? I can just see Bill Kristol’s smug grin as he tells us all that it still all comes back to whether Saddam should still be in power, and if the anser is “no” then we are all just quibbling over the details. I hope there’s a special place in hell for that weasel.
Oh, my – deep breaths – need to go do something to mellow me out a little before I punch a hole in the wall…
Disney/ABC is a test for us. It is easy to get mad, talk boycott, and run in circles. This is what Limpdick and the right expect from the barking moonbats; then it will blow over and on to the next outrage. The christo-fascists don’t forget, six years later they are still on message with Clinton.
Is this a “never forget” event for the left? If it is, we need to take names and plan how to deal with these people. We need to put the heat on the Dems. No more threats, just action.
We should put our candidates on the record to support congressional investigations of possible criminal violation of election laws, FCC violations etc. Encourage Clinton et al to file law suits early and often.
This Path to 9/11 outrage has been in planning and preparation for years; if they get away with it, we are really screwed.
I’m in!
What about David Horowitz? Where does his money come from and what weakness does he have? One Rovian tactic is hit big dogs with anything. I think hitting big dogs like Horowitz with an expose of truth (who he and where his money is made) might be helpful.

Excellent idea!
Nikki Finke wrote a piece about the absence of Disney board chair George Mitchell.
That may not be so much of a mystery after all.
Mitchell leaves Disney at year’s end. He arrived there at his close friend Eisner’s behest to protect and “translate” diplomatically among the fractious sides in the recent Disney power struggle.
Eisner was the one who stuck to the “nothing controversial” tack throughout his era… passing on both Kevin Smith’s Dogma and Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 451.
Mitchell may be watching Eisner’s principal enemy, Roy Disney (along with his allies) hang themselves here.
And if Disney is weakened by this… well, there may be even more trouble ahead rather than less.
Its partner in the Narnia series (which it launched, like this so-called “history project” after the marketing success of Gibson’s Passion crapfest) is Walden Media, an ultra-rightwing fundie company formed to take over Hollywood — first through financiing, then through producing, eventually through marketing/distribution and licensing.
A weakened Disney board could breakdown the door for either a hostile or a friendly takeover by Walden.
chris @ 25
Sweeps are usually Nov. Feb. and May, I think for the whole month. Often you see special programming in place of shows that normally don’t do well.
Um, I pulled in the Scholastic handouts as HTML, that being the only thing Google had left of them, and they are actually reasonable. THe only bias I saw was the standard pro-US/Israel bias. There wasn’t any pro-GOP or other detectable (to me) leaning. It was a pleasant surprise.
I’d be delighted to boycott Disney but i have no kids and therefore few connections to Disney/ABC to my knowlege. Only a few of the 185 channels on my Direct TV setup are from them and they are part of the package deal. I can’t just cancel those few. Any ideas what other places they can be boycotted? Maybe giving money to the alternatives is my best solution?
Who is shamefully (not mysteriously) MIA is Lee Hamilton… who has emerged as the 9/11 Commissioner Most Likely To Play Bartelby: he “prefers not to” make any comment or be involved in this.
Remember how effective Hamilton once was — particularly when teamed with Mitchell?
Well, I do. What matters is that Lee doesn’t.
Or if he does… he, um, prefers not to.
Hit ‘em where it hurts. Give Disney one year of costly customer opinion:
“BOYCOT DISNEY TILL NINE ELEVEN, OH SEVEN”

An excellent diary at dkos gives a lot of details about how advertising revenues are set and (either in the body or the comments) the role of, and dates for, the Sweeps period. http://www.dailykos.com/story/2006/9/8/12711/37922
Thanks Jennifer for another fine post.
Yes we need to step up the pressure. I just checked my local ABC website programming schedule. Path to Propaganda still there of course. It’s one of the few local ABC sites that has no Contact Us or phone number listed, just a snail mail address! I had to get that info from another website.
As a practical concern, many of us have several email addresses, but if you’re like me I normally only use two main ones. Are we remembering to use every email address we have registered for our personal use? I’m hauling out the 6 addresses I rarely use to continue to flood anyone I can over our newest National Disgrace. I think my new subject line will be: “Have you lawyered up yet?”.
I am completely on board Jennifer!
I posted this link earlier this week and in view of the call cited above for a new investigation into 9/11, I will do so again:

If you mean you hope Depp doesn’t make #3, it’s too late. Two and three were shot at the same time to make sure they could get the entire cast.
as a southern Indiana Congresscritter, Lee Hamilton was no great shakes — a wannabe statesman
So some conservatives are against this movie? Does anyone have a link to support this? What about using their words in a concerned manner to support our positions in large numbers of emails to other consevative outlets?

I don’t think this has alot of impact unless people w/ Neilsen boxes do it. I urge people to boycott, not only ABC and Disney, but Apple as well. I know liberals love their Macs but this is WAR, and Steve Jobs has chosen what side he’s on. I plan on boycotting any movie w/ Harvey Keitel for the duration and well as Amy Madigan. The other actors are of such low level that it doesn’t matter.
Don’t forget these bastards know how to multi task.
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President George W. Bush hopes to revive his plan to overhaul the U.S. Social Security retirement program if his Republican party keeps control of the Congress in the November midterm elections, the Wall Street Journal reported on Saturday.

You can call your DirecTV provider and ask them how to block the ABC, ABC Family, ESPN and Disney Family channels. There are ways to block selective channels using your remote’s parental controls. Asking for help on this from your satellite provider engages a customer service person, causing productivity drops in the cubicle farm where questions are answered.
Talk slowly. If there are enough calls like yours, your provider will notice the backup. ABC might get blamed.
If you have DISH satellite, you can block all Disney owned stations with your remote. THEN, write your ABC affiliates and satellite/cable company to note it on their little clipboard (stats) – you’re not going to take it anymore. By the way, dump DirectTV and go for Dish if you’re a satellite subscriber (Its owned by Rupert Murdock).
Of course the answer of what to do is obvious. Boycott ABC/Disney FOREVER. This will: establish that a significant economic loss will result from lying smears aimed at progressives. Only if it is BIG and PERMANENT will it work. I’m going to do it, regardless of whether or not a boycott materializes…on principle alone…
i have already conficated all disney products from my little ones —– while they slept. i am not dumb.
the books, vids, lunchboxes, outfits etc are boxed and ready to be given back . . . when do the protests start??

It seems like the neocons have far too much confidence about this situation. They have been working on this since 2002 (the concept of blaming Clinton for 9/11). Perhaps they have their heads in the clouds or up their butts. Bushboy and Co. are so brazen that they believe this will work their way. How far will these stunted humans go? Every other day I think the tide is turning back towards sanity. Then something else happens and I am stunned once again.

I received an email with an attachment that was an invitation to a Dove Shoot on 9/11 for a woman named Karen Floyd who is running for the South Carolina State Superintendent of Education. I think MediaChannel folks are still organizing the details for the free viewing of “9/11 Press for the Truth,” on their site, but Dave Olson tells me that it will be available to go head to head with “Path to 9/11.” And, sounds like, Bush himself, now, with the press conference planned. I wonder if he’ll actually say the words: “And now I hope you’ll continue viewing this fine presentation of the 9/11 Commission Report on ABC tonight.” Ick. Anyway, just check over at Mediachannel later today. I’m sure they’ll have details available soon.
Damn. Edit timed out. I can spell boycott. Reely.

The problem is we’ve got a crucial election for Democrats in 60 days and a defamation trial is a long way down the road. People are gullible and they’re going to buy into the “based on the 9/11 report” billing.
In addition to everything Jennifer proposes we do, I think we need Richard Clark on The View, Big Dog on Oprah, the two FBI agents who refused to participate when they saw the ludicrous script on CNN, Arthur Schlesinger, Jr. on MSNBC and so on.
Not only do they need to set the record straight, every appearance, every interview, has to end with the question, Why would Disney/ABC present something as true when we told them beforehand they got it wrong?

I notice that our good friends the Pakistanis, the country ruled by a dictator, are going to “withdraw its troops from Waziristan, effectively returning full control of the region — as it did in southern Waziristan last year — to tribal militias dominated by close allies of the Taliban”. Incredible. Failure in Iraq. Failure in Afghanistan. Failure in Lebanon. Failure in Palestine.
This is the plot synopsis that I just pulled off the ABC site a few minutes ago. It seems little has changed.

Perhaps we Californians should boycott Albertson’s, whose spokesbot is that awful Heaton woman from Everybody But Me Loves Raymond. In PT911, Heaton plays the evil US ambassador to Yemen who blocks O’Neil’s investigation into the USS Cole attack, and over-acts it terribly, reviewers have written.
If ABC airs this w/o editing false depictions, then those very false depictions will be run endlessly over and over – next to the documented proven truth. Those who have enjoyed anonymity in the shadows while being a part of a conspiracy of deceit will be “outed” and have to stand in the light of day. The greatest national tragedy of our history is about to be replaced with a greater tragedy – - the devaluation of the victims in favor of the need to create distraction for a negligent president and an administration that has never had the best interest of the whole country as their concern.
If this is aired w/o editing the lies out of it, then afterward over and over, the public will be shown the mendacity of the producers of the film, and the network that ran it w/o commercial interruption, and their twisted connections to those in this administration. The very administration that was at the wheel in this “accident”. Only these guys put a stop to the sobriety test that should have immediately been performed.
Yes, the conservaloony base will embrace the airing of this “labor of love” by all involved. No shock there. This is their sick brand of porno and no doubt there will be quite a lot of conserva-masturbation going on, on Monday night. Probably literally.
But the abject lies will be demonstrated to have been lies. Over and over. The liars will have their noses rubbed in their squalid little production for as long as the legal system allows those defamed to pursue the issue. Politically, this has all the signs of serious blowback from people who live in reality. And sadly for Bush, Cheney, Rove and all who want to ride on their filthy coat-tails, people who live in reality is ..most of us.
Jen great post. Have spent afternoon emailing AA and George, Steve and Robert. Have rounded up Disney crap and have put it in a bag to donate. Have removed my email address from Disney vacation information and have let them know why.
Others here have spoken so eloquently to the future action we must take and why we can’t let the ball drop on this one. I won’t even try to wax poetic on it just know that I remain determined to continue even past the airing of this propoganda film.
Well, for anyone who is angry with Harvey Keitel… I’ll spare you all the nightmare stories about his endless and obsessive hectoring of his ex-wife Lorraine Bracco.
But I will say that he was so hated by the crew of Apocalypse Now that they cut loose a raft on which he was filming a scene and let him drift alone downriver for at least a day.

Those of us in the Philadelphia metro area have Heathen speaking for Acme, a local supermarket chain. I’d be happy to boycott them in support Teddy.
Oh, Steve Gilliard keeps hocking The Path To Football… Giants vs. Colts, Manning a Manning.
There’s one wee problem with that. It airs on Disney’s own ESPN.
I’ll be listening to the game on local radio and reading.
Boycotts are fine, I suppose, but they have to be kept up for quite a while to have an effect.
Any folks in Anaheim, CA and Orlando who could stand on the sidewalk opposite the Disneyland and Disney World parking lots with biiiig signs saying, “Mickey’s Lying to You” and “The Path to 9/11 is Crooked” would find plenty of media attention. :)
OT – As part of a misleading smear attack on Lamont, Lieberman’s staff discloses constituent correspondence with Senator Lieberman to the public, in direct violation of Lieberman’s stated privacy policy with regard to constituent correspondence. Here’s the link:

These are the two points most often cited by critics as false or misleading: the attempted bin Laden assassination that never happened and the idea that the perpetrators of the Cole attack had been identified during the Clinton Administration (when this occurred under Bush).
In addition to everything Jennifer proposes we do, I think we need Richard Clark on The View, Big Dog on Oprah, the two FBI agents who refused to participate when they saw the ludicrous script on CNN, Arthur Schlesinger, Jr. on MSNBC and so on.
Wait a minute.
The View and Oprah are both on ABc, right?

For American Airlines, write up a nice letter telling them how you just saw Path to 911, and you will never fly on their airline again. Sound all outraged.
Let’s see how long it takes them to sue Disney hehe.
Bustedknuckles-
This REALLY bothers me. Sounds like the fix is in. I’ve been wondering all week what Disney and ABC know that we don’t.
I only checked the wapo’s Friday chat late last nite and they did publish my question and seems as though the wapo has been slimed too by this film, check it out:

Perhaps Democrats should give up appearing on This Week, World News Tonight, Nightline, and anything else ABC. Maybe give up appearing on ABC affiliates.

We need Bill Clinton to file a HUMONGOUS lawsuit – first thing Monday morning.
Everything we do has POWER if he sues (and/or Albright and Berger).
If anybody has contact information for him, maybe we could encourage him a little bit – I think we need him to be VERY invested in this fight.
Like Jennifer’s great post says, there’s a lot we can do. But we can do it better if there’s a billion dollar lawsuit behind us.

Ms. Nix;
You correct identify a bad actor:
We want to fight back so I suggest one short term objective is to be sure his pampered son, Tom Kean Jr., does not get elected to the Senate.
I believe Daddy’s motivations for selling out 9/11 are based in nepotism. His payback is getting Jr. the NJ Senate Seat.
Tom Kean Jr.’s campaign site labels him a Independent Reformer and avoids any reference to the GOP. We need to highlight his insider status.
If this mock-u-mentory is the PR disaster I expect it to be, then I hope we can associate it with Tom Kean and force him to comment on this GOP hit piece. We can show motive for Daddy acting in bad faith and put Jr. in the proper context. Kean has got to pay a price.

The only date I’ve seen was January (no specific date) ref the Cole when they determined it was al Qaeda. Whether Clinton or Bush was prez on that day is kinda moot.
I assumed that Clinton decided to hold off since there was a new admin coming in, and he’d let them handle it. Unlike Bush 41 who was pissed he lost the election and sent troops into Somalia in Dec. 92, dropping that military operation in Clinton’s lap. Clinton was dignified enough not to do that to Bush.
The right wing boycotted Disney for something like seven years because they didn’t like some of the movies they were putting out … and at the end of it all, it had absolutely no effect on Disney. The boycott was quietly dropped. So I’m not sure if a boycott is the answer here … something much more drastic has to happen.
Watching CNN talking about the politics of this last week’s Bush speeches and the intelligence report, etc — using Dana Bash, Mike Allen and Ed Henry — and I have concluded that Ed Henry must be the most clueless reporter on national television.
Jennifer — if we want to improve the national media, shouldn’t there be a competence/logic/critical thinking/IQ test for national reporters? Do we need a “leave no reporters behind” program, with testing?

As a southerner I am aware of several candidates from both parties who do this sort of thing frequently. Not that there is anything wrong with that, fyi and jmo.
A bright spot analysis: In fighting and in wars, you want your opponent to take a wild swing at you. You get to break their ribs when they miss. I hope they run this steaming hunk as is, and I hope Bush barges into the broadcast to spout more bullshit. Because it’ll backfire.
Airing it will get alot more people enduringly pissed off than it’ll convert new people to the Blame Clinton view. We’ll see the Blame Democrats meme Wurlitzer-amplified in the run-up to November’s elections. This is not Karl at his best, and if he’s wasting mindshare on a weak PR tactic, it’s a good sign. Karl thinks he can write reality, and to a good extent, he has. But success encourages over-reach, and this is it.
The run-up to 9/11 is way too complicated and murky to stick to Clinton’s rep even if he was responsible. He could’ve been in Tora Bora with Bin Laden playing Madden NFL Football for all public opinion will care. The main thing is, 19 unemployable foreign losers, not one of whom could fly a Cessna for shit, defeated NORAD, the FAA, and the most powerful Air Force in the world. Too bad it happened on the watch of Fartacus.
Oh, and Thomas Kean. Yeah, I take the Kean Commission Report a lot more seriously now. All the timeline discrepancies in it suddenly make sense.

I worked for Old Vogue during a couple of semesters way back when. I bet Dan and Michelle are still there. Small world.
Here’s an idea: The Academy Awards will be broadcast on ABC this year. Maybe its time for some of these self-identified liberal actors to take a stand and not attend this annual fashion show. How great would an Oscars telecast completely devoid of celebrity be? Obviously we don’t know who will be nominated at this point. Howver, Ellen Degeneres could do her part by bowing out of hosting this now irrelevant event. I’m pretty sure she is aware that her audience is predominantly left leaning. Someone should find out her contact info so we can all do our part to pressure/talk sense to her.
A very short timeline
1979 Soviet invasion of Afghanistan
1980 OBL’s teacher Abdullah Azzam moves to Peshawar
1984 Azzam and OBL form MAK to fight Soviets in Afghanistan
1988 OBL splits with Azzam and founds al-Qaeda

1990 Iraq invades Kuwait:
OBL critical of “crusader” presence in Saudi Arabia
OBL flees to Sudan 1991
1992 Ramzi Yousef in Afghanistan training camp
February 26, 1993 Yousef bombs the WTC using a car bomb
Later 1993 the Benazir Bhutto plot foiled as Pakistani police interrupt Yousef and coconspirator Murad planting the bomb. Yousef wounded later when he tries to retrieve the bomb and it goes off.
December 1994 test bomb on board Philippines Airlines flight 434 kills one and exposes the Bojinka plots planned by Yousef and his uncle Khalid Shaikh Mohammed to kill the Pope on a visit 1/15/95 then bomb 11 airliners 1/21/95, originally Clinton was a target during a visit on 11/24/94 but was considered too difficult a target)
Khalid Shaikh Mohammed was the mastermind of 911.
February 7, 1995 Yousef arrested in Islamabad after being fingered by Istaique Parker.
May 1996 OBL forced out of Sudan and returns to Afghahistan
1996 CIA creates Alec Station headed by Michael Scheuer to track down OBL
1998 OBL’s fatwa against Americans

October 12, 2000 bombing of the USS Cole

I suspect the number of people who in the past have found Disney movies “too liberal” pales in comparison to the number of people (at both ends of the political spectrum) who are presently outraged at this piece of revisionist history. A Path to 9/11-inspired boycott could therefore represent a real financial threat to Disney.
But let’s not stop at just watching their movie and promoting it to the netroots and media. Just as Scholastic is providing lesson plans, based on “Path to 9/11″ to 100,000 teachers around the country, let’s come up with our own campaign to get “Press for Truth” into the schools, too.
Wait a minute! I thought Scholastic pulled out of that arrangement.
Lotus, that story is disgusting. Can’t they find some better or more “entertaining” to do?
Eureka at 128, as one from (not of) a long line of dove hunters, I just have to say that shooting doves on September 11 is more than I can countenance. Simply, horrifyingly wrong and dissonant — even for South Carolina.

IIRC, religious fundamentalists boycotted Disney because the company provides benefits to partners of gay and lesbian employees. Will try to find article about the boycott.

Robert Reardon @ 106
IIRC, the fundies were more upset about Disney’s extending employee benefits to domestic partners than by feelthy pictures. However, their manufactured outrage over adult-ish films was enough for Disney to try to protect the brand by opening a new division with a different name. Hence Touchstone. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Touchstone_Pictures
You’re right generally, though, to wonder whether consumer boycotts are all that effective. Sometimes they work, and sometimes they don’t. The successful ones work by tarnishing the brand. “People died, Mickey lied” is not a slogan Disney wants associated with its products, period. Neither is “Mickey makes money by exploiting widows and orphans.” In the long run, and even in the short, the outrage of the 9/11 families will do more harm to Disney than all Bill Clinton’s protests. A lot of those families live in New Jersey, and I hope Bob Menendez wraps them like an anvil around the necks of both Keans.

Thanks, as far as the anti disney videos go, perhaps a contest of some sort along the lines of the Contagious Festival with deadline for submission. It might be tricky to have them on same page as the 911 Press for Truth trailer.

But has anyone yet gotten a glimmer of one thing Howard Dean has asked for?
Whose cash paid for this?
Also… there is the issue of rights.
Who owns the copyright? Is it shared in?
I have NO idea if the program cost as much as ABC claimed it does.
For a network to drop thirty to forty million on a project and then make a grandiose show of broadcasting it without advertising (and purportedly letting it be downloaded without a fee) is STRANGE.
I really feel that someone or some organization has bought and paid for this “generously donated” airtime through whatever mazes, conduits or sewers it got dragged.

You are probably right. Some things I have seen recently suggested that the confirmation came somewhat later but my recollection at the time was that Clinton deferred to the Bush Administration because it was so close to the end of his time in office and that the Bush Administration decided that the Cole incident had taken too long ago for any response to be worthwhile and did nothing.
MarcLord,
Let’s not forget Kean’s equally noblesse oblige inbred successor, Christine Todd Whitman… who gave so darn much to people (including me) by lying about the air quality meeting Federal standards — along with Sir Rudolph Guiliani — at the WTC.
There is not just an empidemic of fatal pulmonary disease among workers, volunteers and residents who were there.

Even if Rove, Scaife et. al. could succed in convincing the “low information” part of the populace of these lies, they still can’t get around the fact that Clinton isn’t running for office. Once again, they are competing against a straw man, not the actual candidates who are going to wipe the floor with their Republican opponents.
This attempt to demonize someone who has been out of the spotlight for six years is actually quite pathetic.

But I really like the idea of mailing boxes of the stuff to Disney corporate headquarters with a letter saying:
“Will no longer permit Disney goods to defile this household. And I didn’t want to defile OTHER households by giving this soiled stuff to THEM. Why don’t you dispose of your own filth?”
Or some such.
Hugh @136
A few key dates I pointed out to Robert Iger in an email yesterday:
1995 — Sheikh Omar Abdel-Rahman and three other suspects in the 1993 WTC bombing tried in US federal court, convicted, sentenced to 240 years in prison, incarcerated at federal pen in Colorado
1996 — Ramzi Yousef, prime suspect in 93 bombing, tried, convicted, sentenced to 240 years
1999/2000 — Four suspects in embassy bombings captured, indicted, tried, convicted, and given life sentences without parole (I think another suspect was extradited from the UK and also convicted)
All done with old fashioned poli8e work and good intelligence.
2006 — Nearly 2700 US troops and 50,000 Iraqis are dead but OBL is still alive and at large; not one single 9/11 suspect has been indicted.

Finally figured out how to focus a boycott:
Designate, say, October 11 as Disney-Free Day. Everybody on this day would be asked not to consume any Disney products or services. It would raise public awareness about Disney business and benefit any advertisers that pulls advertising on that day. The goal would be to take out 10% of the bottom line for the day, that is deprive Disney of $80 million of its revenues for that day (Disney has revenues of about $800 million a day). This would give a focus to the outrage this show has generated.
Starve the Mouse!
alittlemusicalityplease #169,
Excellent points.
Boycotts generally go nowhere in entertainment, sad to say.
Sometimes — on some narrow issues — they work. Like the one spittle-faced William Donahue of the Catholic League threw at Scorsese’s Last Temptation of Christ movie. (Notice that the fine Peter Gabriel score is STILL sold under the title “Passion”?)
However, the global Catholic boycott of The Da Vinci Code and Sony/Columbia didn’t do much.
What could matter more is this (and it’s been discussed before, here and elsewhere.)
Go after Disney’s broadcast licenses.
Get Democrats in the House and Senate to push and push to revoke Sonny Bono’s I-Love-Disney Copyright Bill.
Through that Disney has distorted the benefit and purpose of copyright ownership to its own absolutely necessary benefit.
Without it… all of its primary characters would be in the public domain.
So my guess is… get Congress working (if someone else or Disney doesn’t wave a receipt owning them outright from the first effort)…
Or organize an effort to research and overturn that law.
I guarantee that well beyond any other effort we or anyone else could make, success in that would make Disney collapse like a bunch of Martians spaceships at the end of every version of War of the Worlds.
meta @ 162
I haven’t heard of one and I am bit uncomfortable with the idea of being out there protesting on this day — it always feels hard enough. I am for taking the idea from how to deal with crazy Rev. Phelps. It would be nice if we could form a protective ring of people around the site. Perhaps with signs that say “Have you no shame, Mr. president?”

Targeting a hunt for 9-11 is a definately over the top in it’s message. Hunters do more for the protection of habitat than any other organized group. One huge difference from the Cheney link is these are not farm animals released for
drunksrich freaks. Lead has got to go and will be gone soon. Doves are in no danger of depletion. They will blacken evening skies from here to Argentina in another great migration this Fall. Right now several couples feed on sunflowers left out for them in my yard. From what I understand, in the trailer there is a blank dark screen initially — with the words “official true story” in all their mendacious glory.

Excellent idea!
from the chicago sun times:
Walt Disney Co.’s ABC is forging ahead with plans to air a miniseries starting Sunday despite controversy over its efforts to dramatize — and some say unfairly politicize — the events leading up to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
Producers said late Friday that they had finished making minor edits to “The Path to 9/11″ amid a firestorm of protests from leading Democrats including Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, who warned that telecasting “right-wing political propaganda” might violate the terms of ABC’s government-mandated broadcast license.
Critics say that, among other things, the film fabricates scenes and unfairly blames the Clinton administration for failing to capture or kill Osama bin Laden. The network, for its part, has urged critics to withhold judgment until the final version airs.
Jennifer @177
(Duh.) Thanks!
I think the rightwing wacko boycott, which had a relatively minor economic impact, still had a huge ideological impact on this company.
We’ve seen Disney deep-six liberal movies while ABC’s news, infotainment and programming divisions agressively tout rightwing GOP propoganda.
I think our economic impact will be significantly greater than the watered-down group of Christian extremists who claimed to hate Disney’s “gay agenda” appeasement while, at the same time, 99% of mainstream religious folks (especially the breeders)continued to outfit the kids in Cinderella pajamas and visit the park on days Michael Jackson wasn’t there. The Christianist boycott was an attention-getter, but had no weight behind it.
A critical mass of angry liberal going after Disney, Apple, companies that allow Tom Keane to sit on their boards etc., especially with the “holiday season” (that’s from Holy Day — just saying, Bill O’Reilly) soon upon us can and will be vastly more effective.
We CAN keep up the pressure to knock down the sales of IPods, and I assure you my kids won’t be getting (or keeping) any Disney crap EVER.
I’m extremely Irish when it comes to this stuff. I’ve kept really good grudges going strong for much less, hell I’ve even kept grudges going for absolutely nothing. This grudge is terminal.

MarcLord @ 130
BINGO! MarcLord. This gives us every reason to mount a huge pushback on investigating what else Kean LIED, fabricated, and whitewashed in the 9-11 Commission Report. He has effectively rendered it uncredible in any way, shape, or form.
I am so angry right now, I can’t believe it. Speechless, in fact.
The trailer is worse than anything I expected.
“Official True Story” indeed.
I may have missed it earlier in the comments but C&L has a video clip of salon.com editor Susan Walsh, who’s previewed the whole mockumentary and says it’s “worse than you think.”
I confess that I’m not as optimistic as those who think the airing of PT9/11 will backfire. As I said earlier, I think most viewers will take it at face value and it’s going to be hard to refute. I mean, how many Americans even know that the Clinton administration not only went after terrorists, it tried and convicted them?
I hope I’m wrong.
I think definitely Meryl Streep has a very good chance to get a nom for Prada just because she’s Meryl. She is certainly no shrinking violet when it comes to her political views. Maybe she can convince her fellow thespians not to participate in this year’s Oscar telecast. Then maybe ABC can hire Harvey Keitel, Amy Madigan and Patricia Heaton to walk the red carpet in lieu of any ‘real’ actors.
She said that last night on Bill Mahers show.
I was telling a friend of mine to avoid ABC this sunday and monday, but to my astonishment, he said he was planning to watch PT911 because he said the Wall Street Journal’s movie critic rated it a must see movie, that it criticizes both the current and the previous admins for mis-steps.
Has anyone read the WSJ review?
I sent him the link to this article and hope he is reads it.
Right on MarcLord and Caoimhin Laochdha. This is so irretrievably screwed up.
Caoimhin, your
is absofookinlutely delicious.
Kannadiga @ 189
That’s the wingnut talking point on this movie, that it blames both sides. Unfortunately, it makes up scenes in order to blame Clinton, and leaves out many of Bush’s real faults. Thus giving a fraudulent view of what happened.
Watch the trailer of Path to 9/11 (178 above)…
We have been led to believe that there are a few scenes that could lead one to the conclusion that it was Clinton’s fault.
The trailer says that the whole point of the movie is to present the “official story” that Clinton had OBL and let him go.
It is fucking outrageous.
I do not watch TV, so many pardons if this trailer has already been showing in the US, and I’m just late to the party. Don’t think so, though — the trailer is much more focused than the discussions here indicated.
Is this thing on?
Hello?
I’m going to take a walk.
Here’s the email response I just got from American Airlines. Note the date at the top of the email! (my bold)
keep it up!
Since Bush jr wants to stick failures to avenge terrorist attacks on Clinton, why not return the favor? After all, Reagan did nothing after the Beirut bombing of the Marine barracks in ‘83. Or the USS Stark in ‘87. Or PanAm 103. I’m sure that there are more, but I can’t think of others off hand. One can argue that any one of these were trial runs for the 9/11 attacks.
I just saw the European trailer for this dog at YouTube. Man, Disney is fucked!
I think one of the players most susceptible to boycott from the left is Apple. Mac being such a liberal kind of thing makes them a great target. Gangbanger know that if you hit one potential witness hard enough in the ‘hood, the rest of the ‘hood won’t cooperate w/ the police. So hit Apple hard liberal America, its the only way you’ll get props in the corporate ‘hood. If I can give up Sunday and MOnday nite football, you can give up your Macs. This is WAR.
Lobster, you are 100000% correct.
I won’t be happy until Disney is bankrupt. I say we hit ‘em hard in pocketbook. I am so pissed I could spit nails.
I never liked Disney anyway….ever since I was a little one who watched Bambi. I f*cking hate Disney. Sadistic, mother-hating, greedy, anti-democratic, warmongering, money-grubbers. I want ABC’s license to the airwaves yanked. F*ck ESPN as well.
I can’t believe Iger is going to show this….someone has put a lot of pressure on him. Who?
I bought a ipod…still in its wrapper…..going back on Monday.
Damn it….our Democracy is dying.
TeddySanFran @ 195
Just a thought, but why not call that 800 number and talk to one of their specialists.
That way they will be sure to know about this mess.
Hey, before we go all chicken-lickin about getting back at Disney, let’s win some freakin’ elections–ok?
I mean, seriously, the most important thing now is to take back the House (and let’s go for the gold and see if we can’t take the Senate, too.)
Let’s do that and then deal with the mouse.
joysness @ 201

New around here, huh, BroD. Might want to hang around and check out the place a bit more before you say something like that again. (Although “go all chicken-lickin” certainly has the requisite flair!)
NOTHING SHORT OF A MASSIVE LAWSUIT WILL DO.
And by that I don’t mean a suit that will go to court but one that will go to the more important Court of Public Opinion.
If Clinton, Albright and Berger were to announce they were sueing Disney they could immediately command the airwaves and spell out all the film’s lies for the world to see.
That’s what’s really needed right now.
But I seriously doubt they’ve got the cojones for it.
Good, Coz — thanks!
chimezatmidnight @

Actually, it’s on NBC.
BroD @ 199
So, BroD, do you think a “Blame Clinton for 9/11″ show less than 90 days before the elections might have anything to do with the elections?
And letting attacks like this go unanswered has worked just how well for the Democrats these past 10 years or so?
That is how It’s OK If You’re A Republican has come about. IOKIYAR is due to Republicans being relied on to attack (e.g. over some misquotes in a Reagan bio), while Democrats are relied on to roll over and play dead (e.g. when they are blamed for the worst attack on this country since World War II, EVEN THOUGH IT WAS ON THE SHRUB’S WATCH).

Dear Mr. Jobs,
We don’t need to waste much more time on this. I am writing you about ABC/Disney on what may be my last (of four) Macs. For goodness sakes stand up and speak out for truth. Stop the lies.
We are watching and waiting!
My next computer (and all its software) purchase hangs on the balance of the integrity in your next move or lack there of.
Sincerely,
P.S. Times a wastin’. How soon must I say “Steve was my Uncle for nearly 20 years?” Until he joined Disney and the Horowitz cabal.
Eureka Springs, AR @ 206
I like it, E.S. My threat would ring much more hollow, since I haven’t had an Apple since the Apple IIe. (Or to be more precise, the Apple II gs that lives in my closet.)
why this was pulled from YWAM when things began to heat up. The answer is at the end of the post http://72.14.203.104/search?q=…..k&cd=1

Now will some one tell me how making a film that expresses historical lies and deceptions rates about a political party in an election year rates being TAX DEDUCTABLE AS A RELIGIOUS CHARITY???
Is this a Bush faith based initiative?
annie – It wont fully load for me even with java temporarily allowed. Is it in German?
slade @

Been dead for some time Slade. Remember in Rome the emperors maintained the facade of a Republic until the bitter end. We are clearly beyond the point where the political process provides a pathway to solutions to our problems. Boycott Apple, throw away your Macs! Also, email Ellen Degeneres to drop out from hosting the Oscars on ABC.
These are the upcoming primaries. The timing of this disney/abc propaganda is more likely to have an effect on the primaries than the general in November.
SEPTEMBER 11 – Virginia Islands
SEPTEMBER 12 – Arizona, Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, Wisconsin
SEPTEMBER 19 – Massachusetts, Washington
SEPTEMBER 23 – Hawaii
I don’t think there is anything they can do to save the House. I think they are more concerned about holding the Senate at this point.
What do you folks think?
Use the wayback machine. The google cache to get that page and save it, annie.
Don’t just complain to ABC and Disney! Find the advertisers who are buying ad time into this blatant BS. E-mail, call and then Boycott them. Nothing hurts the neocons and their corporations except a shot to their bank account.
Freeper ALERT!!
Old Left @ 216
Freedom of lies and or defamation Mr Old Dog? Hell, call it your opinion without supporting facts and it’s a whole new ballgame.
Bijou @ 215
Teh heh. Good call Bijou. Dishonest, and projecting (brownshirt wearer sees brownshirt wearers!).
Freeper! What are they good for?
Absolutely nothing!
Say it again.
I wonder how much money Karl Rove promised to put into the campaign of the junior Kean in order to “motivate” the father to throw away every shred of integrity he might have had…
Bijou—no need to reiterate Old Left’s comment. Its inanity stands by itself.
Actually, have you ever noticed how many politicians and pundits are fond of starting their comments with “Look”? That’s a sure sign that whatever is about to follow isn’t worth my attention.
Ray @ 218
Ray, Kean the elder NEVER had any integrity, he always was a right wing hack.
soundonsound @ 207
Duh on me! And thanks for the correction. Between age and chemo brain I just assumed “night game” equalled ABC/ESPN Monday Night Football.
Bijou @ 217
No advertisers to boycott. Someone — with, around, over, under and through TFI — has bought a five hour infomercial.
chimezatmidnight @ 222
No advertisers for this DRECK, but ABC does have advertisers. And contacting them with the news that you will no longer buy their products if they continue to advertise on ABC has very direct results.
Again, I’d start with Apple. Jobs still believes his brand has the right to get away with anything, including their factory conditions abroad. He still thinks the world is watching that inane 1984 spot.
Anyone want to start by boycotting Bob Dylan?
He’s their newest spokesmodel, bought and paid for.
Is Bono going to watch “The Path to 9/11″ on his practically new 5G U2 Edition Video iPod?
Or are we gonna boycott him, too?
Why don’t you all take this chance to reexamine what happened on that day??? They’re trying to pin blame on Clinton now, but this is only after they’ve established through PR that Al Qaeda did this alone. That’s completely false as well.
The 9-11 attacks were done by us, to us. There really shouldn’t be a debate, the evidence is abundant.
Do some research yourself (I recommend video google). Trying to counter this campaign to “blame Clinton” won’t work unless you have the facts. Right now, you are trying to counter lies with more lies, and that’s just stupid.
Here goes…
A caller on Laura Flanders suggested finding your Disney crap, marking “Tell the Truth” on it and send it back to them.
I’m all for the idea of pushing the idea that PT911 just really, really boring and nobody should bother watching it unless they want to be put into a coma.
I’m with you and those fighting for media reform and a new, independent investigation of September 11 — all the way.
Following your MediaChannel.org link I came across this blog post by Rory O’Connor, a journalist I lost track of over the past year or so. It’s an interesting piece on Able Danger, Patrick Fitzgerald and yet another factually botched 9/11 anniversary broadcast special.
Hope you and other posters and commmenters here will give it a read. I’d be interested to hear what other folks think.
Jennifer:
Methinks there’s something much more sinister going on behind this whole mess. Conspiracy theory? What if it’s true?
Everyone else. What makes you think Jobs cares?
I’m all for boycotting Bono and Bob Dylan if they continue to shill for Apple.
Jennifer, again, thank you for helping with our film. I sent this to eveyrone involved in its making because it was the most moving thing I have read about the whole ABC debacle yet.
Please mention the few tickets that we have left to give out to folks. Perhaps we can have a contest where someone writes a poem in honor of 911 and the top 3 get two tickets each and a DVD for free… or if that is sappy, then whatever contest you may think better. I am packing and crazed, but I will stop by and check. But again, thank you Jennifer.
And everyone else too, of course. I know that the DC theater is small (unlike the LA showing with 900 seats), but perhaps people can lend there support by showing up. I just don’t want anyone tuning in to the GOP funded lie, even if they are simply curious.:)
Thanks all and best,
LA
I’m sure the white house is very pleased about all the hoopla over this film. What a great diversionary tactic for them. My question is what is Bushco doing now that everyone is looking the other way?
BroD @ 202
I can multi-task. With as much anger that is in me now I wish I had 10 hands and 10 pc’s to get as much out there as I can.
Caoimhin Laochdha @ 183
All the calls to email stevej@apple seem fairly legit. Asking Disney board members and/or investors to take a stand doesn’t hurt. Boycotting Apple, [Corddry voice:] I mean come on! Where does that line of reasoning end — do we boycott Google now because one of their guys sits on Apple’s board? Do we boycott investors in Disney? Does that include the financials? Do we boycott the clients of said financials? clients of Google? Clients of Apple? Where does it end? Anyhow, Apple Computer isn’t any more responsible for The Path to 9/11 than they are for The Report and The Daily Show (vis. availability at iTMS).
Leaving the blame at ABC’s feet is fair. Blaming Iger is reasonable. Boycotting Disney, if that even works, is a nice protest. But we aren’t going to (and can’t) Tyler Durden the whole corporate universe over two nights of propaganda.
Anyhow, I love the idea of mailing Disney stuff back to them.
I’ve got lots of ideas for what y’all should do now, but you wouldn’t like them.
chimezatmidnight @ 226
Boycott every artist that has ever appeared on an iPod!!
I just saw the international trailer and crooks and liars and – wow this is beyond outrageous. I am going to be writing congressmen and senators to revoke ABCs and Disneys right to broadcast or air their crap. I wasnt a big fan of either before but this is outright facist propaganda. Disney is now the most anti american company i can think of other than Halliburton.
Not one little hint of PT911 during the ABC broadcast of the OSU-Texas game. What gives?
Thanks. Great, valuable post.
According to the SaveDisneyShows website http://savedisneyshows.org/phil/email/, CEO Iger’s email address is robert.a.iger@disney.com
Many other Disney honchos addresses are listed there as well. I sent my letter thru the site, blanketing all. The site will send you a copy of the letter in which you’ll see the email addresses of all. Please pass this along.
Maybe boycotts aren’t effective here, but its come to everybody’s attention that America–Bush America–is not so popular in the rest of the world nowadays. Disney has full or substantial ownership of theme parks in Paris, Hong Kong, and Tokyo. I have a french speaking friend who hates Bush, my son has a girlfriend from Hong Kong, and my daughter is taking Japanese. I plan to send letters, with their help, seeking the help of the people of france, Hong Kong, and Japan to rid the world of its most dangerous government. Ask that Disneyland Paris, Hong Kong Disneyland, Tokyo Disney, Tokyo Disney-Sea, and Euro Disney be boycotted. And ask them to tell disney why this is happening!
