Thanks to everyone's generaous contributions today, we've now raised $13,000 -- an excellent start to our goal of $65,000 for the production of Marcy Wheeler's book on the CIA leak case.
People have asked what will be done if the book makes a profit, and I can tell you that we will take whatever money we make and use it to develop more fine books. There is no shortage of bright lights in the blogophere.
Anyone who would like to contribute can do so here:
Just think of Judy Miller biting her nails down to the quick at the thought of Marcy actually writing a book and enjoy yourself pressing the "send" button.

Great post!
is this a Rove bashing thread?

I think Christy maybe hit “publish” instead of “save” again?
a picture is worth 1000 words
That’s not nice. You spoiled my appetite with that picture.
If only Karl’s wasn’t so voracious …
Whoofah.
Lamont is getting creamed in this poll.
Nice of Joe Lieberman to take the filthy money from the worst man in America, Karl Rove.

Sorta on topic… The sentencing of former Gov. Ryan of Illinois to 6.5 years is credit to Fitz, right?

Please don’t insult Tyra Banks by conflating her Five Head with Kkkarl. Sheesh if his brain throbbed a little, he’d look like that villain from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
From a diary at Dailykos:
Yesterday, I diaried about Scholastic Books catapulting the “Path to 9/11″ propaganda. More than 400 comments were made, the vast majority of them excellent suggestions for action and outrage that Scholastic would be supporting this crock-u-mentary with propaganda reinforcement.
We flooded them with calls and emails of protest and righteous indignation.
Tonight, the material is no longer on Scholastic’s website. Poof. Disappeared.

I wonder if that Moo-Shoo Pork was bad….oh wait…I remember….I just can’t get this Plame thimg out of the spotlight!
Since Rove is the soon-to-be topic. Here’s a great article I found last night. Keith Olbermann just listed Rove as his “worst person in the world” for this story.
Karl Rove funnels Millions to Joe Lieberman campaign
caption: “mmmmmm…. Polish sausage…”
There are many discussions here that I would love for my ‘not progressive’ aquaintances to read. My problem is in explaining where they should go to read them.
“Go to firedoglake.com” I explain.
Cue blank stares and crickets.
“OK, well go to dailykos.com”.
Uh, no. Not because they don’t want to go to these sites, though they may not want to after they get here.
I wish daily that the more mainstream (read: unreachable fundie rightie(wrongie) folks in my world could read the thoughtful, sensible, and often brilliant commentary that is a daily serving here and at our other favorite sites. But how would they even know where to go, even if they did tiptoe out in the middle of the night to sneak a peek?
My wish is this. As much as I love the name firedoglake, it would be nice to have an additional domain name that would redirect to here. I’m not sure what that name should be, nor do I suggest any sort of changes to the name or ‘look-and-feel’ to this site. But imagine having a name that our curious brethren on the right could easily type in to sneak a peek without the fear of firedoglake appearing in their browser history.
Thoughts would be appreciated.
PS I am no longer jcb. I am Judd Brown and proud to be an active member of NETROOTS and FDL.

This “poll” was done by Public Opinion Strategies, whose dedication to reliable scientific sampling and unprejudiced presentation of results can perhaps be inferred from the following blurb from their website (emphases mine):
OT - Possibly I missed it, but hope we can provide a snail mail address for folks who can’t donate thru paypal or credit cards.
Maybe have an interim solution, the real address of someone here that people trust and who doesn’t mind being public? Seems like a lot of people would be able to help out if they just had an address.
Just my 2 kopeks.

Junyah! What the hell you been eating?
Brilliant.
Why is this man frowning? Well, it could be that after six years of his being called the most brilliant and successful political strategist in the country, it might finally have dawned on the country (and will soon dawn on the pundits) that this man is an idiot.
Why? Well, he took a President who was handed 9/11 and the chance to be the heroic leader of the entire free world, with 90 percent approval ratings from Americans and the sympathy/support of most of the world, and turned him into one of the most despised, laughed at, unpoplular, unsuccessful, pulling-his-party down politician to ever inhabit the White House.
Even someone as clueless as George Bush could have done better on his own, but no, he had help. With Rove’s help, together they have managed to make America less safe, less respected, less fair, less just, less honest, less tolerant, less healthy, and more indebted than anytime in our history. He managed to convince his politician that it was okay to commit war crimes, to violate the Constitution, to lie to the American people and to Congress, to stonewall, coverup, conspire, and then, when it all finally became obvious to even the pundits, he did it even more, on the theory that the way to get out of the 35 percent JAR hole he had dug is to keep digging with the same shovel.
It is time to stop calling this immoral idiot a “political genius.” And this has nothing to do with whether the Repbulicans “win” the Senate or the House.
Anyone who got here early needs to hit F5 or reload the page to see the updated article.

“And it would have worked, too, if it hadn’t been for those meddling kids and their blog!”

Your daily gas and oil prices
Average price for regular gasoline 9/6/06 in 50 states and DC
$3.00 plus 5 states
$2.90 plus 9 states
$2.80 plus 5 states
$2.70 plus 9 states
$2.60 plus 10 states
$2.50 plus 11 states
$2.40 plus 2 states
Average national price: $2.720, down $.012
Highest recorded national average price: $3.057 9/5/2005
Highest average price: Hawaii $3.283
Lowest average price: Ohio $2.433
Nymex Crude Future $67.58, down $1.03
Dated Brent Spot $66.14, down $1.29
WTI Cushing Spot $67.50, down $1.10
Gas prices continue their fall. As I said a while ago, barring new speculative pressures the $65/bbl is a more rational place for oil prices to be at the moment. Also I have often thought it was deeply ironic that Bush rattles his saber with Iran, and oil prices rise, making the Iranians richer at our expense and helping support their troubled and corrupt economy. If he had just STFU, oil prices would have declined helping us and hurting them. Go figure.
Scarecrow at # 51.
Well said.
Rove knows that he is very close to being run out of town on a rail and he’s praying for bad things to happen to Americans and the nation in order to reinforce the meme that it is a bad world.
I wonder how he’s feeling about all of the Republicans that are treating him like a leper?

Jane:
I just went to Paypal and made a donation. I had intended, however, to put it on my VISA card. I clicked it on the VISA logo, but it took me to Paypal, which is set up to deduct funds from my bank account. It did not give me the option of using VISA. I went ahead and used Paypal, but is there some way to fix this, or did I just do it wrong?

Excuse me — I wanted to offer a suggestion in case Jane isn’t around. You might go back to your paypal account and see if you can cancel the transaction or stop payment. Then, re-do it — there is a place within the paypal screen where you can change the preferred method of releasing funds from a checking account to a charge card. Good luck.
I don’t know if this ever got handled, from the prior Marcy thread.

Setting aside the other interesting info here, note that the originator of this “programming” is ABC News. Not ABC Entertainment. Therefore, though there may not be any “commercials” in this broadcast, what do you want to bet there will be bumpers throughout saying the thing is a production of ABC News!
Disclaimers be damned, what the viewers will take in is this is the news, this is the news, this is the news.
Who in Apple or schoolastic should we contact?

they will win the Senate and the House and we can say goodbye to our porcine nemesis.
Hugh — I thought your post - 140 prior thread — on Bush’ speech today was excellent — and would fit here wrt Rove. I just don’t know how to link it here.
If we are able to accomplish anything at all I hope we keep this out of the classrooms.

Used plastic three weeks ago to make a donation here, without this problem. I think something got ‘fixed’ the wrong way at some point. (I don’t have (and don’t really want) a PayPal account. I don’t know about you, but I would totally want to vote for the candidate who doesn’t beat his wife. The Lieberman campaign has done a brilliant job of reaching out to that very sizable anti-wife-beating bloc of voters.
