CT Keith got his moment in the CNN sun today when cameras caught him separating a middle-aged female Lieberman supporter in a Harley t-shirt from the man in a Lamont t-shirt after she attacked him at today’s Labor Day parade (where Lieberman was not allowed to march with Democrats). According to Keith, the man was carrying his infant child when the woman — who tipped the scales at 200 lbs. plus– didn’t think it was appropriate that he bring the child to the parade that drew both Lamont, Lieberman and their mutual supporters. Using irrefutable LieberLogic, she deduced however that it was appropriate to physically assault him for doing so.
As Keith said, "that low-information voter strategy must be paying off for Joe." Look for Loserman strategists to find a way to make Joe look like the victim in all of this, it’s their perpetual ace-in-the-hole (for which the press seems to have an omnivorous appetite).
Keith also got a chance to talk to Joe briefly, and tried to hand him a "kiss" button (still for sale on EBay here, the proceeds to help Keith and Ed repay their expenses). "That’s a bunch of nonsense," said Lieberman.
Later, Joe approached Keith once again and said, "it’s very important that we stay civil."
"I agree with that, Senator, but it’s more important that we stop this war," said Keith.
I’ll leave it to others to explain how lying and race baiting and get worked into Joe’s definition of civil and simply note according to people at the parade, Ned had four or five times as many marchers with him as Joe did. Joe’s procession moved at a snail’s pace down the parade route so as not to get fragmented and look like their numbers were even more pitiful than they actually were.
Said one Lamont supporter, "they moved extremely slowly — as funeral processions often do,"
Update: Nice AP Headline :
Lieberman marches alone as former allies surround Lamont
Kind of sums it up, wouldn’t you say?
Update II: The CNN YouTube now available above. Thanks to Spazeboy.

Here’s an article about the parade:
Lieberman marches alone as former allies surround Lamont
I marched in a Labor Day parade today for Blue America’s Eric Massa, the fighting Dem who will put the NY 29th in the “D” column. A damn inspirational leader is Eric.
When we start bringing babies to parades, the terrorists have won.
At the parade, Joe looked over to read my t-shirt that said “what reaLLy happened?” (the L’s look like the Twin WTC towers), and I yelled out “How many kids died today, Joe?” as he was slithering by and he didn’t even blink from that pasted on smile he had…

Hopefully Jane’s still around because I wanted to mention that I spent most of the morning reading Parts 1 and 2 of the Dean book salon (including ALL the comments) and it was just a fantastic experience.

I think that lumping Jewish politicians together like that is not helpful. Lump them together because they are both hurting the Democratic party with their pablum, or less than enthusiastic support of the duly nominated Democrat, but not because they are both Jewish. You may not have intended to sound anti-semitic but to me it comes off that way.
Mary4,
It is an often forgotten point that Clinton was seriously hampered in his response to a real threat: terrorism by some groups, IIRC they were called Republicans, who accused him of Wag the Dog tactics to distract from the much more important topic of blowjobs.

It can’t be fun being Joe.
Ned has to shift the debate off the war. The war is his trump. He has to win on things that are not war. He has to win on what is happening in the lives of people in CT today.
The press is a one note monkey and they keep playing that one note: war, war, war. The MSM has made this race a referendum on Bush. The people of CT can decide for themselves if it is that or not.
Ned needs to establish himself apart from what the MSM has staked out for him.

egregious —
Speaking of Olbermann, I just now noticed your idea at #17.
If you mean asking Keith to cover John Dean’s new book — Dean’s very first interview about Conservatives Without Conscience took place on Countdown.
I remember it vividly, because it was the opening segment of the program that night. And it was originally supposed to be a night that Keith was on vacation — but his crew taped the segment, putting it on first in the line-up. Then his “stand-in” host was shown doing the rest of the show.
Some fans of Countdown were really upset, because they mistakenly thought it meant that Keith would no longer be doing the entire Countdown program, that it was the unveiling of some new format they didn’t want.
Keith had to put out the word on a later show that he was on vacation but had promised John Dean that he would do his very first post-publication interview (on the publication date itself).
When I saw that I thought, “way WAY cool!”
But from the first I ever saw Keith’s show — with him using the Beethoven music that the Huntley/Brinkley Show used to use when I was a kid, plus the “good night and good luck” closing, I’ve always thought of him as “way WAY cool.”
Does anyone recall the report from 2000 issued by a blue panel commission headed by Al Gore?
By all rights, the report itself should be on the WH website. Haven’t checked but it should be archived there or somewhere. Plus, if anyone finds it, archive it elsewhere for posterity.
The GOP party leaders (at that time) stopped any of that report’s security recommendations cold. They probably, cynically, looked at it as a stunt Gore was pulling in an election year.
If anyone is unfamiliar with the report, you might be shocked to find out what the topic is about and that the issues were being considered way back then.
Now, I have yet to see a single story on that since early 2000. Given the grief that’s happened since, you’d hope that some media outlet would bring it up. It wouldn’t suprise me in the least that any of these upcoming docudrama’s don’t touch it with a ten foot pole.

The speculative balloon continues to deflate. This should be good news for Republicans, especially in states like Ohio which has led the nation in gas price declines. A cooling economy and continued concerns over its direction may temper the euphoria.
Bush was touting a 4.7% unemployment rate as good news for the economy and evidence that Americans were working. This number is, of course, nothing of the sort. It measures those looking for work in a specific period and not those who have given up. Bush did not cite the jobs creation figure from the week before: 126,000. Something like 200,000 jobs/month are needed just to stay even. This number while better than the unemployment rate is also somewhat misleading since it doesn’t indicate the quality of the jobs created. There’s a big difference between CEO and hamburger flipper. Another economic indicator median income has been stagnant to falling. So the overall news from the economy front remains troubling.

Incredibly, ABC which will be airing the 911 mockumentary in a week blaming that tragedy on Bill Clinton just had piece on their evening news (also on their website) accusing Robert Greenwald of a partisan liberal attack in his documentary “Iraq for Sale” on private contractors. So what’s their take on it?

Jane,
I was there. Swannie asked me to dog J-Lie with my video camera so I was stuck with him all through the parade. (not to blogwhore ’cause I’ve never done so before, but I wrote it up with a few pics.)
Anyway Mary Snow was with J-Lie the ENTIRE time. Never went over to Ned’s camp to see what was going on. And J-Lie was really dragging the parade down and going as slow as he could relishing every minute of the adulation.
A little slanted? Yes. But at the same time, J-Lie got a warm reception at the parade. It had me worried until I learned that it’s a Repug. town so it was the Repugs that were cheering j-Lie on. AND Ned won Newtown in the primary.

” Joe Blog
A reminder that the Lieberman blog is apparently going live tomorrow. It’s basically going to be a trap to entice people to say mean things about the Last Honest Man so they can go whine to the press about how mean everyone is unlike Stay the Course Joe. I give it about 36 hours until they send out a press release along those lines. I don’t know why they’re obsessed with pointing out how nobody likes Joe, but it seems to be their campaign strategy for some reason. Maybe they should try to talk about people who actually like him for a change, although that’s pretty much Marshall Wittman, Bill Kristol, Michelle Malkin, Ann Coulter, and assorted other conservatives.
So, leave the Joe Blog to Joe and his pals the Bull Moose and Spezzatura. There are plenty of other places on the internets where you can say mean things about Joe.”
RevDeb, after watching my video it’s apparent that Ned got a lot of adulation also. It’s not the disparity that we assumed at the time.
Good job today!

/Nigel Tufnel reporting for ABC News…
Old Sow @ 86
Gosh, I wish I knew where on the internets I could go to vent my dislike of Joe. Oh, if only I could find such a place…
Despite being disinvited to the Newtown Labor Day parade by organizers focused on party politics, thousands of Newtown residents welcomed Lieberman to their town with a deluge of handshakes, hugs, and warm wishes. Having spent the afternoon at the Newtown parade in close proximity to both the Democratic contingent and Lieberman’s Team Connecticut contingent, I can tell you that Joe Lieberman found overwhelming support among the people of Connecticut today. In fact, on more than one occasion, parade organizers had to ask him to pick up the pace because supporters were crowding him so much that he couldn’t continue walking. One man saw this and went up to Lieberman and said, “Joe, you take your time. Enjoy this. We love you.” Before the parade even began, one woman walked up and gave him a bouquet of flowers to express her support and appreciation. Also before the parade, dozens of men and women in uniform asked him to take pictures with them and told him how much they appreciated his support over the years. While it might be true that there were more political supporters the group walking with Lamont, it is also true that there were more REAL PEOPLE supporting Lieberman along the streets of Newtown.
There wasn’t a single point along the parade route when Lieberman didn’t hear screams of support. Several of the other parade organizers made sure they went up to Lieberman to say that they were glad he was there. People applauded and yelled things like “Hang in there Joe!” and “We’ve got your back!” and “You’re the only one who can get things done for us Joe!” all along the way. Lieberman quickly took off his jacket, rolled up his sleeves, and stopped and took pictures with the crowds of people. Lieberman met supporters of every party affiliation today…Democrat, Republican and Independent. For Lieberman, the day was about real people, not politics. Of course, that didn’t stop his opponents from playing politics and pulling childish antics here and there. A grown man dressed in a Bush costume and holding up a hateful sign constantly tried to disrupt Lieberman’s interaction with the press and his supporters, but Lieberman was in such a good mood by all the warm wishes he was receiving from his constituents that he just politely ignored them and continued focusing on the people. In fact, at one point, even the Lamont supporter who was constantly throwing a handheld camera into Lieberman’s face in hopes of catching some embarrassing slip-up said to him, “Thank you, Senator. You are being a really good sport. I hope you’re enjoying this day.”
It is borderline stupid to accuse a man of such clear integrity of being involved in or supportive of any act of violence. Because Lieberman had not been able to focus on the reporters while he was walking due to the crowds, he agreed to talk to them for a few minutes at the end of the parade route. A group of reporters were waiting patiently for him to finish shaking hands. After a while, he finished and began taking their questions. A man with a baby and a Lamont sign was making an effort to push his way into the camera shot and a scuffle broke out between him and a few other residents who were encouraging them to be polite and stop trying to push his way into Lieberman’s interview. None of the people involved in the disagreement were paid Lieberman staffers. In fact, I saw a few of the Lieberman staffers try and separate the people who were fighting and calm everyone down. When it became clear that no one was physically hurt, Lieberman returned to the interview that had gotten interrupted.
All in all, it was a fantastic day for Joe Lieberman. It affirmed that when it comes to real people, they’re lining up and marching behind Joe.
Thanks JC for the strike over lesson. Thanks IfTheThunder for asking……….

Thanks Bob. I did have to take a shower when I got home. I got WAY too close to Joe for my comfort. But anything for the team.
Am working on a summary of Sec./Sen. Webb’s Labor Day weekend speech from Saturday. Among the treasures: “Bush has a reverse Midas touch” and a BLISTERING rejoinder to Allen’s stupid remark about Webb not coming to SW Virginia—where he has 12 generations of ancestors.
Did anyone else catch that lady on the CNN clip screaming “Get away from my child!!!” ? It was awesome, like something Mink Stole would shriek in a John Waters movie. In fact I think I’m going to try and make it my cell phone ring.
If I was Senator Lamont and his crew, I’d want Lieberman to keep right on behaving the way he is. It’s in the bag.
So now there will be a blog for the latest web trend of Lieber-pimping. Yeehaw.
I bet the Lieber-peeps are going to troll FreeRepublic and offer free Pabst and baloney sandwiches to anyone willing to smear Holy Joe.

My comment at Kos: It was a privilege to speak with future Senator Webb about his fundraising. His integrity is clear: he wants to do the right thing the right way.
Among Sec./Sen. Webb’s many honorable attributes is his authentic demeanor. He is not slick. Haven’t we had enough of slick politicians with their perfect soundbites and their awful programs?
Right after the primary I spoke with him about raising money for the campaign. It was clear this was not his preferred activity, which I attribute to his sense of honor in not asking for money for himself.
I shared my own situation: a shy person trying to raise funds for a children’s hospital in the former Soviet Union. Teacherken’s post has the winning concept for Webb: not money for himself, but money for us, the team whom he represents. Or for me, money for sick children. It IS hard and he at least is doing better and better at it :)
Loved the bolder physical gestures in his speech. THIS GUY IS THE REAL THING. We are lucky he wants to serve the public once again. This Scots-Irish lassie is proud to help him become our next Senator.
OT but a great find over at americablog:
CNN, July 30, 1996
Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, emerged from the meeting and said, “These are very controversial provisions that the [Clinton] White House wants. Some they’re not going to get.” ….[Hatch] also said he had some problems with the president’s proposals to expand wiretapping.

Republicans fought anti-terror measures that Clinton was practically begging for.
I keep thinking of Skeffington in the Last Hurrah. One big difference. J-Lie doesn’t give a sh*t about his constituents, he doesn’t return phone calls, and Ned is anything but a cardboard candidate.
Let’s hope this is J-Lie’s Last Hurrah.

From the Department of Josh Marshall isn’t even half bad from January 2003:
Well Keith said it,it’s more important that we stop this war!The endless bashing of Joe Lieberman will make him a victim.I was recently
and not so kindly reprimanded by an FDL regular
who told me that Ive taken a dump on your front porch.Believe me if I thought it would help getting some talk on ending the war instead of the endless stomping on Joe,I’d
take one on your living room rug.
As noted on Huffington today,Mass murder is occuring in Bagdad today.How about something
on ending this war~With or without Joe or Ned
it’s got to stop.
Now you can continue with the shunning!
There was some good “imported” volunteer help for Ned today. Just want you all to know that *xyz got on a train from NYC and came to CT. KathrynMA and scarecrow and I drove 2 1/2 hours each way and we all had a grand time.
Democracy! It’s what we’re fighting for.
egregious –
What a great way to frame the issue for Webb! You sure did a good thing in explaining it that way for him.
And hey — you’re Scots-Irish too? Cool!
You wouldn’t happen to know if Webb has his genealogy posted online anywhere would you? Someday I want to look into that, because there’s an outside chance that he and I could be distant cousins…It would take me digging old genealogy files out of a dusty box, something that’ll have to wait in any event. But I’m vaguely curious.
op99 #111
That mystifies me, too, and it’s one of the reasons I’ve been angry with Joe. He could have pointed out some of that stuff–Cheney’s extreme right wing votes in Congress, for instance–in the VP debate in 2000. But he didn’t. Joe cemented the perception among many that there wasn’t that much difference between the two tickets. Dumbass.
op99 @ 111
You are right about that of course and Dean gives credit to Josh in the book. For some reason, though I’ve been reading TPM for several years now, those pieces didn’t pierce my brain until Dean re-itterated them. It’s one thing to hear it from Josh, another for John Dean to quote him and take it a bit further.
It is a meme that needs to be talked about whenever and wherever possible IMHO.
Spazeboy @ 31
You should be TEACHING journalism. Your kind of news coverage is the next big thing.
*ilson46201 @ 93
Notice he/she didn’t say real Democrats. *g*
John Dean answers my question yesterday, Spazeboy today. I am getting seriously spoiled here at the lake.
Dear Sandlin –
What a wonderful, warm eloquent way to put your feelings about FDL in #108. That’s how I feel about this place, but you put it more succinctly than I ever have.
It’s great to have you here.
There is a real bounty of information out there. The 90’s was when Newt and talk-radio were riding high.
They were all amped about the threat of the US government against the people. They weren’t running around holding hearings about the terrorist threats from Al Qaeda. They were like G. Gordon Liddy, advocating that people aim for the heads of federal agents. Liddy said” Head-shots, head-shots”.
Wayne LaPierre from the NRA used direct mail to raise money and warned of “jackbooted thugs” entering houses, referring to federal agents.
The rightwing were apologists for the Koresh gangs killing of 4 federal agents. They wanted to know what the government was doing to make Americans behave like McVeigh.
Look at this small gem I just pulled up if regard to the African embassy bombings:
“The two men faced the death penalty under a 1996 federal law that allows prosecutors to seek capital punishment in terrorist murder cases. That same law led to the execution of convicted Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh in June.
Thirty-six year-old Mohamed Sadeek Odeh of Jordan was the last of the three defendants sentenced in the morning session.
Speaking in court, Odeh criticized the bombing of Afghanistan the Clinton administration initiated in August 1998, in the wake of the embassy attacks.”
The rightwing of the Republican Party were always a
Blame America First
crowd when Clinton was in office.

fran at 111, you funny girl(?) But there’s a pit latrine out back, you don’t need to use the porch or the carpet. And then when you’re feeling a little better, sit down and have an iced tea and let’s talk about how we can stop this dreadful slaughter that’s destroying the hearts and minds of Americans.
RevDeb @ 115
Dat’s why I have it at my fingertips, honeybunch. ;)
Old Sow @ 85
I think this bears repeating, both here and in future threads. I wouldn’t visit there anyway. The man squicks me out.
ccmask @ 110
I do NOW ! Thanks for the idea …
Mrs. K8 @ 119
Thank you Mrs. KB. The acknowledgement is sincerely appreciated.
*ilson46201 @ 124
Emperor *ilson annexes Poland!
Raw Story reports that the ADL is going after MoveOn for deragatory comments on it’s site concerning Joe Liberman. The ADL contends that MoveOn should have some restrictions in place.
Now I agree that some comments about Liberman are way out of line, but if the ADL is going after only MoveOn, I find that discriminatory. The internet is loaded with hate blogs, created specifically for hate. I don’t see the ADL taking them on.
The war in Iraq isn’t going to stop. Because it’s a civil war. Has been for sometime now. We, that is, Prince George and his consorts started this thing. The U.S. had better get it’s chestnuts (soldiers) out of the fire that’s coming. And the Israelis are going to go on the rampage again soon too. Joe Lieberman helped Bush and the neo’s start this Iraq deal. Leaving Joe behind is essential.
op99 @ 123
Good on you! Hmmm perhaps a good topic for a blogswarm? :~)
Fran, speaking the truth about someone isn’t “bashing” him. Joe Lieberman supports the war. The only strategy he has advocated is supporting the already failed BushRoveCheneyRumsfeld policies. If you support those same policies, support Lieberman. But please stop trying to paint this dangerous deluded clown as the “victim” of “bashing”.
Did you see how fast the whiny, bitter little man ran away from Ned’s very civil outreach? What a hypocritical little piece of slime he is.
op99 @ 127
complete with Marina, Shuisky and Rangoni (operatic reference for the cognoscenti)
I think the Joe blog will be a great place for people like myself (myself being Bill Kristol and all) to go and talk about how great Joe is for telling rape victims to take a hike and other greatest hits. I’ll probably be his number one defender there for being married to a Pharma lobbyist and promoting their comapny bottom lines.
Mrs. K8 @ 101
Maybe we should get out ahead of it and inform them that any accusation requires proof…easily obtained. Anything else could be actionable. I suppose that’s silly of me.
Oklahoma kiddo @ 128
Seems to me it’s more like U.S. sanctioned ethnic cleansing, only the cleansees (Sunnis) are fighting back.
I was at the parade today and I was also interviewed by Mary Snow of CNN. She was with Joe and came over to me when she saw the Lamont and Chris Murphy stickers I was wearing. She spent a lot of time asking questions (I was surprised actually) but wasn’t happy with the narrative I was giving her – she’s obviously proJoe. She kept talking about the war (I said althought I disagreed with Joe, I also thought he didn’t spend any time in CT and didn’t do much for his constituents, including his stance on rape and other issues). She also wanted me to talk about the conflict at the parade. There was no particular conflict; the DTC just didn’t want Joe marching with the Democrats, especially as he hadn’t attended the parade in 7 years. After she left I told my husband I wouldn’t be on TV (I wasn’t) as I didn’t fit the narrative she wanted to hear. But Ned had a great crowd and Joe didn’t get much attention, except for the Republicans around me.
absolutely, nothing but faint praise for Joe tomorrow in his blog ! Like how respectful he was with Cheney in the debate, etc ….
*ilson46201 @ 136
Brilliant!
Nancy Moore @ 135
Wow, Nancy, thank you so much for commenting this!
NARAL and PP ought to be all over CNN about this.
You are so fast. I just went there and saw it was taken. Staythecourse and staythecoursejoe are available.
CT Bob and all the other Ned supporters aren’t going anywhere near J-Lie’s blog. It makes sense. Don’t feed the trolls!
The new Joe’s Blog Tourist Trap is just that, it needs to be avoided like the plague. Yes it needs to be monitored by a few individuals, the less the better, but I’m refusing to link to it, visit it, or give it any site meter traffic whatsoever.
Think of it as:
“Lieberman blogs alone as former allies surround Lamont”
*ilson46201 @ 136
“Thanks Joe, for how you and Hadassah help big pharma stay profitable so they can work on a cure for cancer. I just hope and pray it will be in time for Aunt Nellie…”
or how Joe is such a good patriotic parent supporting the President’s War yet cannily keeping his own children out of harms way. Joe was so conscientious against fighting in the VietNam War that he raised his own children to avoid getting involved in the War Daddy is voting for …
Jim @ 130
Jim — You put it perfectly here! Amen.
And LindyH –
Excellent idea methinks. But how best to do that?
Oh Siun, yoooo hoooo!!!
I have to go out right now. Maybe if folks remember to tell Siun (and Jane and Christy!) –
I think this may be very important. That “blog” “premieres” tomorrow. This blog we love so well, FDL, may very well have a target on its back for some black blog ops. Getting ahead of any such thing might be a very good idea. But careful thinking by people who understand these matters (public relations) much better than I should go into it.
I’m struggling to imagine what *Joe* will say on his blog tomorrow, or – even harder to imagine – what Gerstein will be writing for him.
Maybe TRex will have some ideas on Late Night . . .
OK Kiddo, at 128, I’m sure you all know that my favorite hobby horse about this is that all the supplies for our soldiers have to travel over a 400 mile highway from Kuwait. Disrupt that and our soldiers will thirst and hunger and lack fuel and ammo. If or when the heat is turned up (and not even very much imo) in the middle east, it’s “Welcome to the Green Zone Shooting Gallery, suckahs!” It’s MY nephew they’re talking about. USA Out Now!
Has the ADL ever taken on FreeRepubic or Redstates or LGF?
-GSD
The video is up finally! I know I’m in EPU-ville, but check it out. 4 minutes of FUN!
http://ctbob.blogspot.com/2006…..nline.html
GSD –
The ADL should have a chat with David Neiwert, don’t you think? He’d be more than happy to point them in the direction of the REAL culprits, I think.
GSD @ 147
Well we should definitely and literally red flag them for the ADL.
John Casper @ 78
Alternative method:
[strike]your egregious rant here[/strike]
replacing [] with the carats over comma & period.
I was on the Howie Klein thread with Bill and Jay from CO. when Low and Behold Ambassador Wilson just sorta strolled in and pulled up a chair. And you know what? HE thanked US! A Diplomat, an Ambassador and a Gentleman.
You never know who is going to show up around here, and I would be willilng to bet I would be really surprised to learn the names of many lurkers.
an old story (June 1) about pro-Joe sock-puppetry and the FBI here
sandlin @ 107
Amen, Sandlin. The posts and comments here keep me grounded in our goals and keep me focused. And yes, fran, it’s ALL about the war. We have no power to change policy until we take back our government.
Anyone know what happened with this story….
Lawyer says FBI is investigating pro-Lieberman blog postings
By Don Michak, Journal Inquirer
06/01/2006
A Hartford lawyer says the FBI has agreed to investigate postings promoting Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman’s re-election on a popular Connecticut-based Internet “blog” in the names of Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill.
Lieberman’s campaign manager, Sean Smith, today denied that anyone from the three-term incumbent’s campaign was involved in the controversy.
“This is the first I’ve heard of this. I know nothing of this whatsoever,” he said. “No one in the Lieberman campaign has ever posted anything on any blog that I’m aware of.
Smith added that “the blogs” are “sort of the domain” of Lieberman’s challenger, Lamont, and that, if anything, he and others on the senator’s campaign staff have often wondered about the authenticity and veracity of such postings.”
“You can imagine some of the conversations that we have had,” he said. “It seems like the Wild West out there.”
Liz Dupont-Diehl, Lamont’s campaign spokeswoman, also insisted today that nobody from the challenger’s campaign had anything to do with the postings.
“We’d never stoop to something like that,” she said.
http://www.journalinquirer.com…..&rfi=6
OT-So, I’m still not entirely sure who to vote for in the Florida Dem gubernatorial primary tomorrow. I’m kind of inclined toward Rod Smith. Is there a compelling reason not to vote for Smith, or for Davis?
Oilfieldguy @ 151
Ya like Senator Leahy’s son. EEEEK!!!!! Lucky us!!
Geez…I was just reading that one *ilson…spooky.
CT BOB..lmao
He added that “whoever” posted one of the messages, which he said appeared to be based on reports of Obama’s comments at the Connecticut Democrats’ annual fundraising dinner, had spelled his first name incorrectly, dropping the “c.”
Me: Spelled correctly, this would be impersonating a federal official.
Hugh at 66–thank you for your heroic work bringing us frequent updates on gasoline prices with your political analysis.
How very interesting that Ohio, a swing state in the election, should have the lowest gas price possibly for the first time in history. Could you tell us what the lowest 10 states are, with an eye to seeing if they are important for the election?
egregiousMom says small business owners in SW Ohio are fed up with the cost of doing business, that it’s getting harder and harder to make ends meet. Interesting to see a comment from Connecticut about angry small business people there.
In previous Ohio elections the Republicans didn’t have to worry *cough*diebold* about the outcome: Kerry defeated in 2004, ELECTION INITIATIVES defeated in 2005 by wide unexpected margins [cough opportunity?]. Guess now with a differential of 20% in the polls that’s a little hard to make up with Happy Machines. Awwwwwww.
I think the races in Ohio will be won in part because of increasing awareness of Republican poll workers, who might have been willing to give a little “help” for the team in the past, but who are now disgusted with state and federal government.
ccmask @ 159
Over at DKos, when the name of a “public figure” registers, someone (His Lordship?) checks personally to make sure that no one is trying to pull a fast one, and the name on the diary has some kind of title attached to it so that folks are clear that this is the real deal.
Not that I think someone else dropped by FDL and posted under Joe Wilson’s name yesterday, but it would be nice to know if our omnipotent moderators have a list of regular “public figures” who drop by these parts and their emails, to make sure that no one is trying that stunt around here.
An ounce of prevention . . .
Out of Iraq now! And I don’t care a twit about the tiresome crap about ‘we can’t leave now, what would happen?, from the likes of Hillary or anyone else. Be they Demos or Repubs. Sanity dictates we get out now. I don’t want one more soldier killed, for nothing, in this horror that Bush has foisted upon us. Let my people come home!
new thread
gee, I wonder if Joe’s supporters like An* Co*lter will be showing up and writing on his blog?
Somewhere in the last 18 years, Joe Lieberman started taking detours down one Joe Road after another. It was easy to do: when faced with making decisions that would benefit his constituents, or represent their interests, but at the expense of his owm interests, there was always that fork in the road, and the fork was always a Joe Road (parade routes, by the way, are not designated Joe Roads, which is why he was seldom seen on one). On the Joe Roads, Joe makes all the rules, and he is always leading the parade…except, Joe never realized that a parade of one is not a parade.
Connecticut for Lieberman – otherwise known as the “Can’t Face Losing” Party – is just another Joe Road. What he doesn’t realize is that this is one Joe Road that will not lead to Washington.
Come on, Connecticut: get over Joe before he gets over on you – again. Let Joe travel the Joe Road all alone, while you begin a journey with a man who knows that the roads he walks were built by you, with your sweat and your pain and your heart. One thing is for certain, Ned Lamont will always take that road with you, and not abandon you for his own road.
Old Sow @ 121
Thank You Old Sow.By the way for what it’s worth I spell Francis with an i.
Someone suggested that I lose the handle and sign up again and start over.What cut and run?
Just kidding!
Ned Lamont will win because he’s fighting the good fight,but if we intend to convert some of
the Lieberman Democrats(Unions) we better start
by not kicking the crap out of their choice.
Yes it’s not my blog but if it were I’d be spending far more time on the Democratic initiative comming up dealing with the vote
of confidence or lack thereof~
Get the tea ready~
Mrs. K8 @ 113
You could try contacting the campaign. While you’re at it, you might echo my suggestion to them that Sec./Sen. Webb do the audio for his book Born Fighting. He has such a powerful voice, and he loves talking about the Scots-Irish.
GSD @ 105
Have mercy.
*ilson has acquired an impressive set of domain names and I have no problem with them all pointing to the Kiss button site but I’m wondering if each one of them might later be used for individual voter education messages. Perhaps ct4joe.com could discuss the war issue and link to ct4lieberman.com which could discuss his big pharma connections. Sort of a webring idea.
Check out Video Maestro CT Bob’s coverage.
brownandserve @ 170
LOVE THIS IDEA.
Egregious @ 168. You may already know about this history but I thought I’d share it just in case. The solidiers of the Pennsylvania Line were mostly Scots-Irish.
http://brownandserve.blogspot……-down.html
mui @ 171
This is delicious. Do go watch and enjoy!
Just bought two buttons!
Re ADL going after MoveOn for their comments section, I think it would only be fair for us to forward all comments we happen to come across on other blogs that thrive on the hate language directly to ADL.
They certainly would appreciate hearing about ALL of the bad language, now wouldn’t they?
GSD @ 122
All OT, but worth highlighting.
GSD’s wisest post I’ve seen. FBI agents taken off terrorist watch to look for dead bodies in Arkansas and stained blue dresses – you name it. The congress Newt gave us didn’t care diddly squat about al qaida.
I’m a little confused about the site moderation. I’ve been coming here for six or so months, and while not contributing to every thread, I do read and generally agree with what is written by all the contributors.
However, last evening, on a thread that was NOT the John Dean book thread, I put in a joking comment about Dean and Christopher Shays looking just alike. It was not a mean-spirited comment – in fact, I think they’re both handsome men (I like balding men).
When I pulled up the thread this morning, my comment had been pulled with something about “topic”. I was astounded – and offended. If it was a “frivalous” remark, it was certainly no more frivalous than most of the comments on these threads.
Anyway, I’d like to know why I was censored. I AM a good, hardworking Democrat!
~~~ Moderator comment: phoebes, I am the moderator responsible to editing that comment. And, I have given my “mea culpa behind the scenes. You are absolutely correct that it was not on the Book Salon Thread. However, as I was trying to watch a bunch of comments at that time, and there had been a lot of off topic stuff before, I misread which thread it was on. Things often get really crazy here behind the scenes, and mistakes are made. This was one of them. My deepest apologies.~~
brownandserve @ 175
Yes, that’s the point. The soldiers in most of the fighting over the last 400 years have been disproportionately Scots-Irish. And they feel they have sacrificed for our country, only to be kicked in the face upon their return. Vietnam for one.
test
~~ moderator Phoebes- hope you get to read the earlier comment. Mea culpa, and my apologies ~~
cleter @ 158
My take on Smith, besides his being wholly owned by Big Sugar, is that he appears to be that horrid chimera, a DINO. Seems indistinguishable from the varmint he replaced, George Kirkpatrick..
He has. I was there in Danbury today. He talked about many things besides the war. However, the MSM insists on focusing on that issue alone, because they are lazy and that’s what sells.
Ned is doing a good job of discussing issues that are important to Connecticut – like fiscal responsibility and homeland security (there are five nuclear power plants in CT).
So – don’t believe everything you read in the papers or see on CNN.
phoebes @
180
Oh, Moderator, thanks for explaining! I really thought I might be banned and I do love FDL and the sense of a Democratic “community” it has developed.
RevDeb – I was there and saw CTBob. I would have loved to have met you and scarecrow. I too thought it was a strange crowd. I was right in Lieberman’s path on his way up the hill before the parade started. I thought the Lamont campaign showed a lot of class by asking that no one say anything negative to Lieberman as he walked by (it took a lot of self-restraint).
Regarding reactions – I did the same parade in 2004 with with the Kerry folks and had a lot of people on the side lines banging their flip flops together (remember the Republican convention) and a few shouted that they were Zell Miller Dems. Newtown is a very Republican town.
By the way, is “truthteller06″ for real? Must have attended a very different parade than I did. A good day for Lieberman? Gee, if that was a good day…
Hugh @ 67
I happened to be in the vicinity of a television tuned to CNN today, and was pleased to see it reported that gasoline prices had doubled in the last four years. Reporting the in such terms hurts any Bushco/Big Oil attempt to win votes by lowering prices in the much shorter term, and four years is too little to make it worthwhile to play the Blame the Clenis card. For a minute, I wasn’t sure I was actually watching a cable news channel.
cleter @ 80
I can accept that he’s a jackass, as long as nobody tries to tell me he’s a Democrat.
http://www.DumpJoe2006.com is working now !
truthteller06 @ 91
…thereby taking their assigned place in the power relationship Joe knows so well.
You’re a funny, funny guy.
Shez @ 143
Isn’t it interesting how, only a month ago, Lieberman didn’t give enough of a damn about a Web presence to pay for real bandwidth, and now he’s trying to navigate the Blogosphere?
I don’t know what’s funnier, the obvious attempt to cash in on one of Lamont’s bigger advantages so late in the game, or the notion that Holy Joe wants us to think he’s suddenly interested in communication.
egregious, are you still around? You were responding to oilfieldguy who said something about people who lurk on this site and you said ya like Patrick Leahy’s son. Eeek! (loosely quoting). What did that mean? I’m really curious. What was the eeek about?
I agree with numerous folks who say that Joe’s blog will be a trap. Here’s what I’d like to see all of us do:
Periodically lurk at the blog, to read what’s going on–BUT DO NOT POST ANYTHING THERE!
Come back to FDL, quote what you find offensive and then rebut it here.
If Jane has us all pledge to “not say mean things or comment at all on Joe’s blog”, then all “Lieber- so-called-victims” can attack are others, but not FDL and those who are part of this community. We could even make a big stink of avoiding Lieberman’s blog, “because we fear the inevitable black flag operation from the Lieberman campaign”. FDL could even have a special daily section on “the bs being strewn at Joe’s site“.
And the first time a Joeshill reports something contrary to it on the MSM, we could hit back hard and honestly say: “Not us and we don’t trust Lieberman enough to comment there!” Then go on to reiterate that it’s impossible to have a debate with them, without their trying to paint themselves as a victim. Then get the same thing set up on Kos, Next Hurrah, etc. Someone should also get a message to Ned’s blog to do the same. Lieberman doesn’t deserve civil discourse and will only twist it to his advantage, regardless of the fact that they are wrong!
Better to give Loserman the cold shoulder, than to give him any fodder at all.
