I’m excited to announce that Siun is going to join the FDL team as our new Press Secretary. Many will know her as a valued member of the FDL community and also for her work handling press for Yearly Kos. She’s also a good friend and I’m really looking forward to having her on board, so please put your hands together and welcome her in the comments.

Siun Rocks! This is way cool.
frist
I’ve done it by gosh I’ve finally gotten to be Number one!
Darn I missed it!
So what exactly does the press secretary do?
Congrats Siun!
Hey Siun! woooohooooooo! You go girl!
HOORAY!!!
Did I say that loud enough?
HOORAY!!!
Good grief! A blog needs a press secretary?
dave @
3
Presses my shirts.
running like hell for cover!!!
EPU’d – the Jo(k)ester has hired a new press secretary too:
Asked to comment on the “anti-Democratic” charges against Lieberman, the campaign’s new press secretary, Tammy Sun, responded:
“Supporters of the Nedster may be focused on political gamesmanship and party politics, but Joe Lieberman is more concerned about what is best for the people of Connecticut. He believes they deserve better, which is why he’s running as an Independent Democrat on a message of unity and purpose.”
http://www.newhavenindependent…..ecords.php
I knew a stripper named Tammy Sun years ago. I wonder…?
Yeah Siun!
O’FDL!
Way to go Siun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SIUN!!! How wonderful! BIG congrats to all!
Who’s gonna be chief of staff, Jane? I nominate Pach. I’m holding out for dogcatcher for myself.
sweet! next…world domination!
EPU’d from the previous thread about Liebermans new blog starting Tuesday:
THE FUCKING FOOLS ! ! !
Guess who just bought http://www.Joe2006Blog.com and http://www.BlogJoe2006.com ?
A hint: it wasn’t Joe !
“I knew a stripper named Tammy Sun years ago. I wonder…?”
Would it hurt your eyes if you stared at her for too long?
Congrats, SIUN!!!
What does a press secretary do???
Pach,
How do you run from a 60ft sauropod. You don’t need cover, you need elephant tranquilizers!
Pach – I’m heating the iron up right now! We can’t have you looking frumpled!
and gang – thanks for the vote of confidence! I am so jazzed to get to work with this team!
I nominate *ilson for secretary of disinformation.
Will Joester let us play at his blog?
Ed*ard Teller –
I think Tammy Sun has also worked for another group – the DLC. I’m not sure whether she still does.
Here’s a link indicating Tammy’s involvement with the DLC:
http://www.ppionline.org/ndol/…..tid=253406
*ilson at 15 -
That is fantastic!
hmmmm… beside pressing Pach’s shirts (which he may regret given my ignorance of proper irony) …
I’ll be working with Jane and the team to help with publicizing our great work here. Since I actually enjoy talking with the CM, I’ll be helping them get a better sense of some of our kewl stuff.
or to put it a better way – I’ll spin until I’m dizzy!
shooogarp @ 16
Where’s there a picture of this Tammy Sun? The one I knew worked at a strip place in Seattle at Lake City Way and 145th or something – just outside the city limits, uh 32 years ago.
dave @

The only other press secretary I know of spends all his time and energy trying to keep it a secret what a dick-head his boss is.
Your job should be a cake-walk, Siun! *g*
Congratulations.
Congratulations, Siun! Great news!
tpres2000 – I just hope I don’t have to wear that Gerstein Catwoman outfit!
siun,
Apparently Gerstein has been demoted or something.
I think this idea just rocks! And I could not be happier for Siun, or for the entire FDL team – this was a brilliant idea.
The possibilities are endless!
Ed*ard Teller @ 9
As of last July, Tammy was press secretary for the DLC. Coincidence? I think not.
ET – poor Dan … perhaps we should send him flowers or something! or just the note saying ‘compliments of Firedoglake’!
Tony Snow’s really overmatched now!
So when will we be seeing Kobe’s first new conference?
Congrats Siun. I,m sure you arent going to give the press a snow job now are you.
Anne – yep!
FDL has grown so much and is certainly showing the real power of blog communities to work for change so we have a lot to crow about – and more to come.
Was that really Valerie’s Joe downstairs???
let me just say “Kobe stands by his earlier statements and will not have further comment”
Siun- that’s great! Still trying to get it as to what you will be doing, but then I’ve never known a press secretary before. Like media liason to CM?
I nominate Ed*ard Teller for Raconteur and *ilson for Man-about-Town.
Could we make TRex FDL’s White House Correspondent?
“Uh. I’ll take a question from the tall scaly fellow in the back…”
Siun @ 31
I like that.
I don’t know how much credit the Nedster can give to the fdl pups who have been so important in his campaign, but it has been vital help for him so far.
Oh happy day!
Have not read the comments, just saw Jane’s post and need to congratulate Siun and Jane & Christy and the mods and the support staff on a most excellent decision! Siun has the heart, intelligence and real gumption of a true citizen of the world. Hurrah!
VG – precisely. I’ll be helping to promote things like the Book Salon – and issuing “no comments” for Kobe. (oh, and trying to keep the Trex flight from rehab out of the press!)
BRAVA SIUN!!
And hell yeah, *ilson for Chief Disinfo Officer!! Good on you, dude, for snagging those domains!! hope you are loading up the meta-data with snark!!
Suin to CM: Do I have to slap the other side of your head to help you understand?
angie … merci!
We’re going to have some fun.
*xyz @ 22
Don’t you mean fascistic?
Hey Suin…you’re joining a great team! We are all a-twitter!
shooogarp … well hopefully, threatening to withhold the cocktail weenies will do the trick.
al-Scooter @ 38
I’m still holding out for dogcatcher. Speaking of whom – I’m off to take Strider mushroom hunting. (the mushrooms are for me, not him)
Congrats Siun – I look forward to seeing how your role develops. As always, FDL is breaking ground as to what a blog can be.
Keep on keepin’ on gang.
dipper … twittering here too
(though someday I want a pic online where I actually combed my hair!)
Wow! Siun! we are bigtime now!!
does that mean we can’t rampage off topic any more at our every little whim? (this may have been covered) Larry Johnson has a new post at Booman:
looks like it’s worth a read…
Woohoo! Siun, I am so happy for you and for FDL.
Folks – I’ll be using a new email address for this so make a note:
media dot firedoglake at gmail dot com
and next week, I’ll be doing a bit of work for Had Enough which will be mighty exciting.
After the fun of working the media for YKOS1, it’s even better to get to talk about all the great work being done by folks here!
Matt – thanks! I’m pretty excited to see what we can do.
G’day and good on ya Siun. You’ll make a fair dinkum press sect’y. Need an ambassador to Oz?
Petedownunder … thank you, I think
I work with a lot of Oz folks so I’ll try out “fair dinkum” on them next email!
Fair dinkum means true or honest in the sense of having real worth. Of course, as Ambrose Bierce tells us, an ambassador is a diplomat who is given a job on the condition that he leaves the country.
Congrats FDL
Siun is a gem.
And the photo hardly does her justice.
(Doesn’t a Press Secretary handle things like photos?)
Congrats, Siun. We look forward to hearing about all your success!
Fair dinkum is about as good as it gets!
Siun…CONGRATULATIONS…another wonderfully powerful lady of the lake.
Siun, you’ll be great! Press Secretary is a great idea for FDL.
Congratulations Siun!
I thought you already were the press secretary :)
Congrats Siun!
I’ll keep the place fulla gas, oh, wait, Fartacus does that.
Siun- v interesting thread on Late Nite- wild idea, but it would be very interesting to have John MacArthur at the book salon- Second Front is out of print, but still looks very topical- especially about the methods for spinning the media dev. back in the Gulf War
http://www.firedoglake.com/200…..ent-274464
Siun — at least kosher cocktail wieners (a.k.a. “media chum”) aren’t tough to come by these days.
OldCoastie — that post by Larry Johnson ROCKS!! So is Emptywheel’s thrashing of David Johnston, damn but it’s good.
There is a shoe hovering. There must be. Why out of the clear blue this staged disinfo campaign, all the heavy guns firing away. With Johnston’s POS in NYT this morning, it feels less like they are trying to indulge in misdirection than outright heavy-handed psyops.
Makes one wonder if the NSA has been listening in on Fitz — and if we should be expecting a salvo shortly from his office.
Were I betting person, I’d say before the end of September there will be an announcement. Who’d they miss? Weekly Standard? LAT? ChiSun? there aren’t a lot of other outlets that would be fresh to lob next in this volley.
shooogarp @
39
Excellent suggestion.
(Doesn’t a Press Secretary handle things like photos?)
Yeah, but that candid at the top of the page is better that the beauty shots for Clarke, Fleisher, McClellan, and Snow. Heck, not even Darkblack could make Scottie look that good.
egregious @
64
Yeah, well, there is that. We just thought we’d formalize it. She’ll now be on our “contact” page.
Jane Hamsher @ 68
I can do windows…
OldCoastie @ 52
looks like it’s worth a read…
By sheer coincidence (or maybe not *g*) I posted two comments last night that Fitz needs to make a move soon. The barbarians are at the gates. Of course I was speculating and so is Johnson (unless he has insider stuff), but so is everyone else (unless they have insider stuff). We’ll see what we will see (soon I hope).
Ed*ard Teller @ 9
Sure, and calling people Nedster and Lamonster isn’t political gamesmanship?
Rather pathetic and outmoded attempt to sound cool. Hip. Twenty-three skidoo.
Barfin’, baby!
In countries that use the Westminster system (UK, Oz etc) they have a shadow cabinent. I think FDL is building one:
Jane as Pres, Christy VP or AG
OFG as Secty of Transportation
HopeSprings as Secty of HEW
Other ideas?
Extra credit and/or contest: what year would it have been actually cool to end something in
-ster?
What other things from that year are also sadly out-of-date?
Welcome Siun~Fran!
1958?
Congrats,
Can you arrange a Press Conference for
Fitzy?
The best job in town is Fitzgerald’s
press spokesman, who doesn’t speak, no?
Jack
Fran – thanks!
and Jack … I think Fitz’ press guy is even better than Fitz but that’s based on professional affinity.
al-Scooter … I love you!
(((SIUN))) Congrats! You deserve every honor you get and you are doing us all proud, I’m thrilled for you.
Soooooo, any plans in the works for a fall FDL Brunch in Chicago? I notice it still gets brought up once in awhile and you should be the guest of honor to celebrate your new position! I can’t wait to meet you one way or another.
One thing I’ll be doing right off the bat is monitoring any mentions of FDL in the CM so if you see one, send me a note at media dot firedoglake at gmail dot com with a link.
Tracking coverage is a big job and everyone’s help is very very welcome!
You know what this means? No longer will CM be able to run from what is being said and done via the progressive side of the blogosphere, and that is HUGE.
We’ve been making lots of noise, and picking up steam, but it’s about damn time there was someone to dog the CM into paying attention. It’s like going from stereo to surround sound.
Oh, this is so exciting!
Shez!
I’d love to have an FDL brunch … let’s come up with a plan!
(but give me a month or two to get some work done first!)
I spoke too soon…New York Post fired a salvo today as well, lobbing what is little more than crusty feline feces at Fitz and of all people, Powell.
It’s an op-ed, too, no attribution; were I to guess, I’d say it’s Babs’ handwriting.
I think I better take a broader look to see what footprints are being left behind as they attempt to dig up more dust and sand to obscure our vision.
shooogarp @
39
If TRex’s Late Nite Saurian and alter ego showed up at a WH briefing doncha just believe, deep down, that dubya would nickname him 41 aka Poppa Failed or Mama Babs aka Momma Made Me Do It, ‘Cause Poppa Failed?
Tall scaly fellows, the things of childhood nightmares (and FDL’s delight). Since we have a preznit who never even got thru adolescence and has never reconciled his past, well…not too far to leap.
Anne – that’s a tall order but I think that tools like Spotlight are putting us in a really strong position to change the conversation. Hopefully I can add to that using the tools they are used to … media alerts, press releases, cocktail weenies …
Press secretary Cool! Get some dirt on some network executives and on air talent! Hint Hookers and drug dealers along with exsecretaries and exhouse keepers tend to have the best dirt. Make the Main Stream Media comment on things our way. Or else BLACKMAIL! G.E owns NBC, Disney ABC target their executives and their board of executives with a series of stories on each of them! Its about time the left got dirty! Meyer Lansky used to send THUGS from Murder Inc to break up American Nazi meetings. That should be the next step. That and folk singers every hero needs theme music!
Siun,
Congratulations. With all the time and effort Firedoglake devoted to Plamegate, I am particularly appreciative that you are there. I suspect you will be kept busy. Joe Wilson
For those of you who have not met Siun, she has a very strong likability about her, a very pleasant person.
oh DARN! knew I forgot something at the store last night – Cocktail Weenies!
Ambassador Wilson – thank you!
Joe at 88 — Nice to see you on the blog. Best to the missus and the kids.
Got a breather for a minute to check e-mail and wanted to drop by and congratulate Siun. :) (Fi is feeling a bit better today. Thanks everyone for the good wishes.)
It is really all of you who are to be thanked. We would have been totally destroyed by the wingnuts had it not been for your spirited defense of the truth. We are ever grateful. It makes the fight worth fighting knowing we have an army of people who love what this country stands for fighting with us.
Christy – Thanks!
and hooray for the good news on Fi! even after all these years, I can remember the nights with kids with those nasty illnesses.
Siun @ 86
Maybe the FDL Cooks Club should be working on a really, really good cocktail weenie recipe…Christy might want to host a “Favorite Cocktail Party Food” session for the next “Pull Up a Chair.” *G*
I listen to satelite radio on the road, so I will keep an open for fdl. I always have, and so far, the only mention has come from Cenk of the Young Turks, and it was in a positive light.
I have been here since nearly the beginning. It was an early link somewhere else that told me you folks had the best Plame coverage. Watching the blog develop has been stunning.
The remarkable development of community,
the increasing range of expertise of commenters,
the ability of blog owners to comment and commenters to post,
the emergence of regular weekly features,
and the sustained humanity of the whole crew
have been very wonderful to watch.
I think that the internal development of expertise has been remarkable. I think that the development of spotlight and the Share and Enjoy feature has been fabulously strategic. What this and the new relationship to Siun might mean is that you are able to leverage the power of the whole Lake community.
I am too overcommitted to post frequently or go to yearly Kos or host my own blog. I am an enhanced version of a lurker. But I see that networked intelligence with links and fact checking and real time editing is outstripping the capacity of the MSM for insight and thoughtfulness. (Maybe not Krugman)
The potential for authoritative reporting needs to continue to be unlocked at the same time as the FDL potential for action.
The paradigm of a social movement that researches the truth, gathers an informed populace, and then tells that truth to power is new and exciting. May all of us enjoy the fruits of this remarkable labor.
Ambassador Wilson – armies need inspiration and you and Valerie continue to show us how to stand up.
(and that’s not just spin)
egregious @ 75
The year the great John Hughes move “Sixteen Candles” came out. 1984 maybe?
Hi Christy,
Thank you for all you have done, especially with a sick little one. I’ll pass your best wishes to Valerie. She was a bit undone yesterday morning but after reading the blog response to the wapo she perked up. Felt a lot better after we cancelled our subscription
Petedownunder @ 74
I think not a president in a parliament. Jane as Prime Minister, Christy as Governor General.
I now know why this man is called Ambassador. I would love to stick around folks, but I gotta get stuff done.
LOL Siun, of course we know you need some time, there’s so much happening. One of the last times a Chicago FDL gathering was mentioned you said something about a facility with a kitchen, etc. Us in the midwest are hoping for something, anything, however informal it may be, to be able to easily travel there and meet up. Hell, I’d give up Thanksgiving even to be with FDL family! *g*
Siun @
31
We should definitely do that. *grin*
And congratulations!
Thank you for everything you and lovely Valerie are doing for America and beyond, Ambassador Wilson. You represent to me the essence of what that word represents– honesty, diplomacy and human relations. It’s something we have strayed from for way too long, imho.
Shez … I’ve got the greatest very old and clunky stove with 6 – count them! six! burners! (and two ovens for those … was it “dutch” somethings) plus the best source for amazing oj outside of Jamaica!
and no furniture so lots of room for people!
angie @ 105
ditto for me.
Congratulations Siun ~ as I’ve said before, I’m definately a devoted “lurker”, coming out from behind the hay bale when there’s something admittedly universally themed and a-political pretty much that I can comment on. This qualifies! It’s not that I underestimate myself; just that I know my strengths and weaknesses…and the political/social savvy shown by Jane, Christy et. al.; and the regular commentators ~ leaves me bowing to they that knoweth/expresseth better than I on these subjects. I read and learn ~ and maintain my hope and sanity.
But that said ~ I *can* speak to the absolutely phenomenal growth of this site; at the beginning it was postings about the dogs and donuts, with delightful insights, wit and humor on general governmental stupidity ~ then Jane took the bit in her mouth on Plamegate, ran away with it (forgive the horse analogy)…and the rest is history. This site, you people ~ ARE making history; do know that.
It’s a pleasure to watch…not to mention one of the few things in this day and age (besides the Daily Show, Colbert and Olbermann) that keep me from total dispair. Siun? Your new “position” here will only enhance and empower all that is already being done ~ that…is inspiring.
angie @ 105
Angie,
Thank you. I never forget the Orwell comment that in a time of universal deception simply telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act.
That is the context in which our drama plays out. It is all about the environment in which we are exercising our responsibilities as citizens to hold our government to account. In a different environment, this would not be noteworthy, just another act of civic duty, which is what it was in the first place.
Oilfieldguy @ 89
Plus she’s from Hyde Park, Chicago (I think). Hotbed of liberalism (used to be anyway). That’s a big plus.
Horsewoman and Alison … you both have such valuable voices and it’s so nice of you to pop in today. Thank you.
I’m off. Thanks Jane and the fdl team for putting this together.
Regarding the speculation that all of the recent pushback against Fitzgerald is a coordinated attempt to muddy the waters in advance of some upcoming event – I have a guess as to what the event in question might be: the arrival of the book “Hubris”.
Corn has been strongly hinting that there will be some bombshells in the book. I know he is interested in sales, but I also can’t help but believe that all of the Rovian rhetoric on the pages of the Times, the Post and elsewhere recently signal that they are running scared about what the book might reveal. Here’s hoping…
Congrats, Siun!
Hi Siun,
Congrats of the new gig.
The illinois continfent of the roots project is “rooting” for you!!
Is there a press secretary club were you can have a drink with Tony Snow? eeek Nevermind
All the best,
Tony
orangejumpsuit … you got it! and still a hotbed of good thinking! I’m very proud to call it home.
There is certainly a renewed effort to trash Fitz and the case altogether. It’s astonishing, really. We must be nearing a breakthrough. These recent articles showed the same lack of respect for process and information available to those who choose to look at all of it. Thank God for Firedoglake and emptywheel.
That stunningly ignorant and below-the-belt WaPo editorial serves to remind us how important it is to keep fighting that ignorance on as many fronts as possible.
Ambassador Wilson, huge thank-yous to you and Valerie for all that you have done in service to your country, and in service of the freedoms we hold so dear.
Siun, welcome, and thank you for helping to run one of my favorite hangouts on the innernets.
Hey Joe how about you the missus and Bill and Al start giving talks at black churches in the DC area now so that in November you got some credit and can lead a march on washington and the supreme court if things go bad in november! Build the roots beyound the netroots!
Congratulations, Siun! I believe you were the first person here to respond to one my (rare) posts (a warm welcome, as I recall). Best of luck with the new responsibilities.
Wait a minute. Somebody tell my I am not delusional. Is that the REAL Joe Wilson we have here?
If so, I salute you and Mrs. Wilson as true patriots.
In perilous times the truth is our best ally.
Why not? We’ve got the real Jane Hamsher, the real Christy Hardin Smith, the real Siun, the really big lizard…this is the place to be.
Lobster – thank you! and glad you are here!
Ambassador Wilson came by to support Howie’s Blue America candidates – and was kind enough to spend a bit of time chatting with all of us.
You saved so much and so many in Gulf War 1, Ambassador Wilson, I will always remember that. I had friends and family deployed there. Most survived. Though I hated that war, too, you were a bright light: doing the best for your country.
I may never know why this happened to our country, but I am glad to know there are patriots who stand up for truth and lives everywhere, every single day. Right here at FDL.
I want to thank Ambassador Wilson also for joining us today, it drives me nuts when they leave off your proper honorable title in the media. And thank you and your lovely wife Valerie for the service to our country. Please know that we are behind you 100%.
Ed*ard Teller @ 24
Sad to think that she finally hit bottom.
Joe isn’t treason during wartime the death penalty, and I’m pretty sure leaking your wife’s name a spy OUR spy is treason, well my question why isn’t Scooter being charged!
Wow. Our world has completely collapsed; we are no longer 6 degrees apart unless we choose to be. Imagine it: the folks who defend our nation through service to our country dropping in to chat with us. So glad to see Ambassador Wilson drop in, making our efforts so much more personal than they already were.
You know, it’s because of FDL that I had a chance to chat with Emptywheel last weekend; we have been like ships in the night, moving in parallel circles and having overlapping friends, but never really catching up with each other. It’s the intersection of FDL that was a unifying context. I can’t wait to see what other intersections develop next; Shez and I are going to catch up one of these days, and maybe we’ll do that in Chicago with Siun.
Things looked grim in 2002, 2003, 2004…but things are finally starting to turn around now that we are beginning to connect with each other. It’s about time!
Joe Wilson @
93
I started reading FDL precisely because of their coverage of the Plame case. But with Hitchens, Hiatt, et al out there using the latest Armitage revelations to debunk and discredit Ambassador Wilson and Valerie even further, where has all this spirited defense disappeared to? FDL has been AWOL on this story.
Angie at 125 ~ I sometimes begin to think that this all happened to our country…so that we could come together in ways that this site facilitates ~ and in ways that harness an energy that makes our country stronger in the end result.
Hasn’t it always been that way? It’s like this strong undercurrent that only comes forth when we’re truly challenged…would of course be nice if history didn’t make us go to such extremes; if so many innocent lives didn’t have to be lost in the transitions. The only comfort I can find when I contemplate that? Is in my belief ~ that we…are not “this”.
roberto at 130 — click on the CIA leak link to your right, and see several articles we have done over the last few days…try peddling your inaccuracy elsewhere if you aren’t going to bother to check before you sling something false in the comments.
smack!
All right. A Press Secretary who tells the truth. What a novel idea. Good luck to you!
Karl Rove. Bless his dark little heart. He’s got it right for a change. Maureen Dowd reports today that Rove “has warned associates that a Democratic takeover in Congress would mean an end to Mr. Bush’s legislative hopes and invite two years of potentially crippling investigations into the administration.” Couldn’t be that Karl is just a little tiny bit worried about his own skin.
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/09…..r=homepage
I decided not to pile on. But thanks for playing, roberto.
Shez and Rayne – let’s plan a Chicago get together post election day – we can celebrate all our victories then!
This is from the NYPost editorial:
This is the first time I’ve seen Powell targeted this way. Oh,yeah, something’s about to happen. They’re frantic and spinning like freakin’ tops.
Hey!! What a great idea, Siun! I’ll tell my hubby he can fund the trip as my birthday present!!

Congratulations!! well done.
OK…OT
Anyone interested in the video of Rocky Anderson’s full speech for the 30th, I just posted a link at my site. It runs about 37 minutes.
OK Kiddo …
You know it’s odd, when I worked in PR for mac products I learned that truth wins out … sometimes it takes a while but in the end, we win.
My first effort there was a push to get hard drive manufacturers to actually build to the proper RF specifications so our ‘puters didn’t interfere with emergency radios and such … people thought we were nuts but we did win eventually … and we’ll win this one too!
My congrats to Siun as well. It seems clear that Jane, Christy, Pach, TRex, et al. have plans to stir up plenty of trouble that’ll keep reporters filling up your in-box.
More power to you all!
Petedownunder @ 74
I’ll take mental health: Assistant Secretary HHS.
Does that mean I’m working for Hope? I thought I already was working for hope in Russia :)
Hey, Siun, this is great news. Now that there’s an official TradMed liaison, or Press Secretary, does that mean that Jane and Christy are going to tell us what they really think about Fred Hiatt and Susan Haigh? I know they’ve been holding back, given the lack of a person filling the job you’ve now got.
Seriously, this is big league. We’ll be on the lookout for TradMed references to the ‘lake; does Froomkin count, or his he already on the blog side of the fence?
What a wonderful series of chatz and newz today, with special surprise guests and — exciting newz that RGJoe’s webblog-thingy will be open for biz on Tuesday!

You just brought sweet tears to my already teary eyes! thank you.
Siun, congrats! Wish I could join the post election party in Chicago.
Amb. Wilson, thanks for dropping by. You and Valerie are big inspirations for us. Justice will take too long, but it will be done.
Christina, may I call you C. J., as in Cregg?
From Tammy’s press release: He believes they deserve better, which is why he’s running as an Independent Democrat on a message of unity and purpose.”
————
Okay, the DLC coming to Joe-Lie’s defense. Calling Lamont “Nedster” to belittle and demean him.
Connecticut deserves better – than what? Than Lieberman? You bet.
Last but not least – Joe-Lie is not running as an Independent Democrat – he’s a candidate of the Connecticut for Lieberman party.
I hope the Lamont campaign rebutss this latest attempt at obfuscation and disinformation.
Siun, I have a quick question. Is there a plan to add the type of “calendar” to the site that gets filled in with important dates, events, schedules, reminders, Jane & Christy appearances on radio/tv/other, and the like? The one on the sidebar now just covers past posts for each day but isn’t the ‘planner’ type.
OldCoastie @

looks like it’s worth a read…
It’s also at No Quarter, his blog.
Siun, congratulations. I’m so excited about getting to watch this blog grow!
Pach … not she was a press sec! wow!

TheOtherWA @

The Democrats are going to take both houses of Congress, for one thing.
There are two things that BushCo have done that have hurt them with their own: the outing of an American undercover agent, and the dismal response to Katrina. Along with the failures to deliver in Iraq, and the general level of corruption (though I wish the Abramoff-related investigations were moving faster and more visibly) these are the specific actions of the administration that have most alienated people that once voted for them.
Maybe something new is coming down the pike, but I think the spinning and attacking is happening now because the elections are around the corner. They are trying to find a way to recover some honor.
(If I were more clever, I would find a way to link this to a comment about honor among thieves…)
A winning strategy will keep these issues on the table, through November and beyond.
Awwwwright, Siun!
Shez @

Nice catch, as per usual Shez.
Ambassador Wilson, it was such a great honor to have you on a thread. Per everyone else, you and Valerie are great American heroes.
Siun, congratulations and hooooray.
Congratulations! I wish I had met you at YKos – I was one of the minor pre-YKos volunteers who could not make it. Best wishes! Bruce Godfrey http://www.crablaw.com
Congrats., Siun.
I just peeked in and saw the good news for FDL and you.
Love, San
watertiger! we’ll have to do a little promo on your great snark roundups! they really keep me laughing – and up to date!
Bruce – thanks for helping on pre-YKOS! our media team was so busy, we didn’t get to see any of it either but we did have fun!
and thanks San!
I gotta a question… so if Stripper Extraordinaire, Tammy Sun is The Lie-ster’s press secretary now… what is dangerstain’s new job?
Jane Hamsher @

Jane, did you clear this appointment with Kos?
And sign me up for Head Bartender! Martinis anyone?
My DD has an interesting piece up on the fall of Fox News viewership:

tides turning …
Thanks John, it was angie @105 that bolded the ‘Ambassador’ that reminded me of that pet peeve, of basic manners. Can you imagine how a Republican ambassador would screech if they were routinely disrespected like that in the media? Oh mercy. Ambassador Wilson is such a gentleman and inspiration to us all.
http://www.consortiumnews.com
Good post on the Anti-Wilson spin.
I don’t think it is too much of a stretch to compare Joe Wilson to Raoul Wallenberg…both showed incredible courage in the face of some pretty horrible stuff.
and for everyone, don’t miss Bob Geiger’s rerun by request of his Koufax nominated post on Katrina … wow!
http://bobgeiger.blogspot.com/
Oklahoma kiddo @ 134 …two years of potentially crippling investigations into the administration…
Oooh it gives me the goosebumps. Tell us more!
Of course, the most amazing thing about the last six years is how Bush, et al., have managed to make the events of Sept 11 work in their favor.
(Even to the extent that they can say there have been “no more terror attacks on US soil” — forgetting anthrax and to a lesser extent, the DC snipers who were prosecuted as terrorists as I recall.)
Somehow the fact that the Sept 11 attacks happened on Bush’s watch is no longer on the table. This is a disaster. It is going to be made worse when ABC broadcasts this nonsense next week. Would be nice to get the Aug 6 PDB and Tora Bora back in the public eye beforehand.
This is great news.
Hot damn!!
Congrats, Siun – we’re lucky to have you!
Alison @ 97
Wow! Thanks Allison. I love it here and concur with everything you’ve said. I pimp this blog EVERYWHERE!
That would be so so so funny if Tammy really was the stripper. Not that there’s anything wrong with being a stripper.
Photos people, let’s get to work.
Siun 141:
How gloriously technical and Macerrific.
Even getting hard drive manufacturers and after market folks to support LVDI for us audio people to be able to record more tracks in real time has been a battle.
Wow.
Lobster @ 169
Looks like Aravosis is getting ready to unleash hell…

SteveAudio … yeah, I guess that was a little geeky but we were the hard drive supplier for Herbie Hancock! (and he always visited us at Expo … what a treat!)
It’s all about accountability – whether it’s tech or corporate or politics … accountability is the key.
EPU’d and this may not go through – but WOOT WOOT!
TSF @ 144 RGJoe’s webblog-thingy will be open for biz on Tuesday!
That is so pathetic.
If WE decided to open a blog, it would be ready in under an hour, from *ilson’s purchase of the domain to full functionality.

UptownNYChick @ 179
I love this! Liberman is so fixated on fighting netroots that he hires this lady? wonderful!
perhaps we have the DLC types nervous?
Lobster — you know, we have work to do; it’s not just that 9/11 happened on Bush’s watch (and he’s trying to skate off that blame, aided and abetted by the right-wing owned and excessively consolidated media.).
IT HAPPENED ON THE WATCH OF A REPUBLICAN MAJORITY.
The same Republican majority that mustered up righteous indignation about U.S. ports being sold to Dubai, but then…what? What happened?
Ditto DHS and FEMA. Happened on Bush’s watch, happened on the watch of the Republican Majority.
And we most certainly have had ENOUGH.
Congrats Siun

My aren’t we touchy! I suppose it’s your perogative to insult your regular and loyal readers. I guess one must be a fawning and uncritical sycophant to get along here free from intimidation.
I admit and apologize for having overlooked Jane’s piece of Sept 1, Wrong Said Fred, however brief it may have been, and leaving it more to Larry Johnson to rebut the nefarious WaPo editorial. It must have been the accompanying illustration that threw me off. (I still don’t get it) That was the sort of piece I was looking for here. It was an oversight and I was not intentionally “slinging falsities”.
After all, the recent confirmation of the Armitage involvement as Novak’s leaker was someting of a non-story since speculation had already run strong along that line. It became a big story now that the revelations have been used to further discredit the entire Ambassador Wilson and dismiss the entire affair as being baseless and a huge waste of time. This view is getting a lot of press and airtime and I fear it will catch on as conventional wisdom.
cleter – Thanks!
and Jaqrat just sent me the first FDL news clipping … this is precisely the kind of help we’ll need so extra thank you!
Suin – congratulations. To have a conduit, and such a wonderfully talented one to book, to the corporate media is truly a treasure. I know they read the ‘blogs’ sometimes, but ‘refuse’ to capture the truth reflected here and elsewhere. This will really be a good thing.
Will you continue to do the YearlyKos media? Or is that moving on to the “big time”. Hope not, but one person can only perform one task at a time.
Siun, I wonder if your department could pass an idea up the chain. Perhaps under the paypal button a mailing address for financial support would be helpful and or a box on the blue america page.
It’s always a pleasure reading your thoughts and insight here. This is wonderful news. *s*
GrandmaJ – thanks.
I’ll focus on FDL … but continue to coordinate for YKOS which right now is in a quiet stage as YKOS2 plans are made.
Suin 177:
What company? IBM DataStars are pretty popular in the recording studio community, as they seem to have pretty good MTBF records, as well as sustained throughput.
Eureka – good idea. I know several folks who, unlike me, do not live by paypal and online transactions. (Come to think of it, my budget would be much healthier if I had to find a stamp for each time I click online!)
Siun, thanks for pointing out Bob’s Katrina rerun. I really liked two of his featured Saturday Cartoons:
#1 by Nick Anderson, and especially # 8 by Jim Morin. With the destruction Fartacus is responsible for Mr. Morin could swap out any
every fakePhoto Op he does and it would pertain.“My aren’t we touchy!”
roberto at 4:08, please apologize to Christy immediately.
You wouldn’t get to take that “tone” with her even if you were even a little accurate.
roberto, read the threads. We were all over Fred. Fred’s a distraction, we’re focussed on winning in November. We’ll be sure to tell Fred that his editorial only proves again that he doesn’t read his own newspaper, just like we did when he wrote “A Good Leak.”
You want to disagree with Jane or Christy, fine. As long as you’re respectful, we have no problem. Since you weren’t, please provide that apology, promptly.
My new bumper sticker. Not for sale, as that would be copyright infringement on the image. Rummy ticked me off enough that I finally broke down and put a bumper sticker on my car :(
SteveAudio – early 90’s at Microtech (not the scanner company) … they were the first mac storage vendor and did a solar panel for the early (duo early) powerbooks (which almost worked sorta … eek!) and has a lot of followers in the music biz. Our CEO at the time was a guitar junkie and I think half the development staff was hired simply so they could have a good band for company picnics!
Brian Bell and Herbie Hancock were our favorite clients … and we took good care of them.
roberto at 184 — well, you’ll pardon me if I don’t think at least 6 articles in the last three weeks is exactly being AWOL — especially given the depth of coverage we have given all of these issues for months and months. It’s not enough to have been juggling a sick three year old, a full time blog and everything else in my life as well as in Jane’s — but to have someone insinuate that Jane and I are not working enough of our asses off on this blog…well, it’s rude, for starters, because you have no freaking clue what we have planned for upcoming coverage, let alone how many calls we have out, etc. — because you clearly had no clue what we had done the last few weeks. Jeebus.
Siun 184:
I’d enjoy chatting with you more about music and computer tech stuff, let me know if that would be OK, I could probably learn something from you!
I meant Siun 194…sorry
SteveAudio – always OK though I’ve been away from that world for quite a while …
of course this week I get to do some work for Howie and Tommy Yumm’s Had Enough so it’s coming back!
Congratulations Siun, and best of luck.
maybe Tammy is just part-time dealing with the big boys
http://hotlineblog.nationaljou….._br_2.html
there is also no job listng for a PR person at the DLC.
Siun 198:
That’s the world I still inhabit. ProTools recording onto ever larger RAIDs, usually FireWire today, although a lot of legacy SCSI systems out there. hundreds of tracks, 24 bit, 96kHz end even 192 kHz sampling rates.
Drives today have to be pretty damn foolproof.
Interesting story:
At the last studio I was on staff as Chief Engineer, a very well known artist was working on his half of what became a double album by himself and his partner (hint hint). He came in everyday with the drive currently being used, which awas a cigarette pack sized bus powered FireWire drive, kept in his pocket. No backup anywhere in site. Frightening.
Oh yeah, the record shipped platinum.
So Christy, this wouldn’t be a good time to ask you when you are going to acknowledge the mayor of Salt Lake City when he channeled you in his excellent speech this week? *G*
Heh. Just reading it reminded me of you. Bless your soul for all the hard work you do.
Raw Story has a headline, “Major Rove Exclusive Breaking Tonight!!!!! Developing”
I have absolutely no idea what…
Shez @ 201
I would guess it’s not a particularly good time to offer any suggestions or criticisms, however complementary or constructive they are intended to be. Just my opinion.
oh, PFFFT! Raw Story’s big breaking news is that Rove is agnostic and his father is gay…
I thought it was gonna be something good like he was led away in handcuffs…
Congratulations, Siun!
(late: it’s warm in L A today and I was napping, literally)
I would say congrats to Siun, but instead I’ll say congratulations to Jane! For those of you who have not had the pleasure, you will think Siun is even more cool if you get to meet her live and in person.
In fact, I had dinner with her in Manhattan last week and we went over and over her lines (no matter how many drinks it took) just in case an opportunity like this came up.
Remember, Siun?
“As you know, this is the subject of an ongoing investigation…”
“The war came to our shores on September 11…”
“Jane, Christy, Pach and TRex remained focused on protecting the American people and not on a few hundred bad polls…”
“As I’m sure you remember, Powerline, Red State and MichelleMalkin.com remain the central fronts in the war on error…”
There were more, but they kicked us out of the bar eventually.
:-)
Bob
SteveAudio … have a good guess on the artist – great job!
My storage days included the launch of the very first ever and astonishing 2 Gig drive for like $6K … IBM mech … we were so excited!
But Bob … I’m having trouble remembering who I’m supposed to call the fascists?
thank the lord for a good coach!
OldCoastie — I suspect RawStory is doing what they can on push-back, since the folks there are more than aware of the nature of the beast we are up against.
Bet you this must be the soft under-belly for Rover, then.
Any FirePups with a blog, you might think about a post covering that very topic: Rover’s agnosticism and his family history. Let’s not forget that Rover has managed to slip below radar with concerted effort on his part; we are paying his paycheck, and yet we have not one damned thing of benefit for it.
Except for weakened national security in countless ways, including the loss of a faithful NOC to outing.
Congratulations, Siun — and how very astute of the goddesses. Now as one of your first tasks, could you ask CNN WTF it thinks it is doing, putting a long segment on Iran in a program called This Week At War? Did it not learn anything from its complicity in the run-up to the war we are actually involved in this week? Sheesh.
when I got back from walking the dog in the forest and read “Joe Wilson” and then realized that it was THE Ambassador Wilson, not some fake, well, I started crying.
Thank you, siun, Jane, Redd! And all firedoggies!
Siun, Congrats. That’s wonderful.
ET – sorta took my breath away!
wow!
Thanks to all … and now we have another awesome Matt O post to educate and energize us!
I have been coming here daily since the very beginning. FDL has been the go-to blog for all things Plame and Fitzgerald. I would not spend so much time here if I did not respect the work that has been done. Most recently that good work has been largely focused on the Connecticut race and other mid-term election matters. That’s fine.
It’s not that I disagree with Jane or Christie by any means in the vast bulk of their work. I was just looking for a response to the latest in the Wilson matter and did not see it, which I found very odd. I apologized for my oversight in not spotting Jane’s post regarding Hiatt. I am not perfect, and neither is anybody else. Respect is a two way street. I suggest we all be like Fonzie.
ET — Just a quick note before I join the gang upstairs. I got all misty myself when the Ambassador said the blogs had made Valerie feel better after the WaPo hit piece. We’re used to making each other feel better — that’s part of what “community” is all about — but I hadn’t really considered before that we might also offer solace to some of our heros. It’s an aspect of blogpower I had never considered before, but will not now forget.
Congratulation Siun! I think you should rethink the catwoman suit thing. Could be saucy.
Congratulations Siun and FDL. This is great news for the Progressives Movement. And how cool is it that Ambassador we so respect comes by the Lake?
And further
what Hope said . …”Wow! Thanks Allison. I love it here and concur with everything you’ve said. I pimp this blog EVERYWHERE!”
Me too.
Just on OT observation:
I’ve noticed that any slight deviation from the accepted ideological orthodoxy or cultural norm of a particular blog will often result in a swarm of attacks that can be compared to anti-bodies going after an invading foreign body. I suppose this is as natural a function in the blogosphere as it is in the biological world. But I think it does show that, no matter what the body, biological or political, left or right, without built-in, institutionalized protections for the minority, there is little room for dissent.
To those of you who never post those opinions that you harbor that fall outside the party line, (and most of us have a few) try it sometime. It’s an interesting phenomenon.
Ed*ard Teller @ 213
What ET said. I thought it was OFG playin around for a minute and it hit me. Not. A. Joke. Wow, that man has a cyber bustin’ aura. Mr. Winter is impressive as well.
roberto @ 221
It’s all in the delivery amigo. Try bustin’ into a sports bar with the same gusto you portrayed here and declare spectator sports a violent promoting waste of time.
The edge here is a bit defensive due to intentional trolls. Try a little softer approach and some facts with that shake next time.
Mary- I just rescued one of your comments. Please let me know if you are still reading- I have an idea for you.

Ah, I was hoping it might be something like that. Congratulations, Siun, I’m sure you’ll get a lot done—mostly on a linear rather than circular path!:)
Carolyn … I’ll need Christy’s diet tips before I show my … anyhow, before I try the catsuit!
Congratulations, Siun!
What a fun gig. Mazel tov.
Congrats, Siun. I’ve hung around FDL for a long while, and have watched as the site has grown. I think the press position is needed, this a great move for all involved, and I wish you luck.
Siun, I read here daily and post seldom, but I just had to say congrats on your new appointment! Onward and upward! Huzzah!
Siun- if you are serious about the diet tips, email me! Or better yet, put a test in mod. and I will respond. Or even put this comment in mod. Much quicker.

Siun: Congratulations! It was a pleasure meeting you in Connecticut just before the primary election. Keep up the great work!
Wasn’t there some guy on Saturday Night Live about 10 years ago who did a running “…ster routine?”
Been running around all day, and stopped by to catch up on the threads . . . Hooray, Siun!! Go by Thai 55 and have some spring rolls to celebrate!
And if Larry Johnson’s speculation about Fitz getting ready to drop the other shoe plays out, things may get very busy, very quickly for you in this new gig.
Really busy before the New York Primary…but I am really happy that Siun has joined. This place just gets better and better with time.
Eureka Springs, AR @

I agree.
roberto, first you said Jane and Christy were simply “AWOL”, wrt Wilson. Then when Christy told you that you were, flat wrong, you called her “touchy.”
roberto, your first comment was inaccurate. Your second was disrespectful. If you don’t think something is being covered enough, get off your ass and lead by example. Link to an article. Write a comment about it. Don’t criticize Jane and Christy, as though they are editors who have paid reporters waiting for assignments, it doesn’t work like that.
siun,
well done. what a wonderful world this will be.
Wonderful move, ladies– I heard Siun on one of the Roots Project calls, and was very impressed with her instincts and strategy.
And way late, but I must just swoon a tiny bit at the arrival on this thread of Ambassador Wilson. My goodness, so many wonderful things happen here at the ‘Lake. He and his wife have served our nation most honorably.
Sharoney … good to see you and Sandia – thanks for the good wishes! gotta admit to a bit of swoon there meself … wow.
Way late to the party, but
Congratulations Siun! Seems like a smart move to me, and shows the growing influence of this forum…
Speaking of marketing, as you were in reference to Apple and the truth—at one of the many Tech companies I worked, we were slammed, and ultimately lost our market leadership when we shipped a board that didn’t work.
That’s not the bad part. What sucked was we were directed to lie loud and often about the error. We denied the problem and blamed our competition, which was about as stupid as can be imagined. We didn’t tell our market that we’d screwed up and were going to ship a fix and gosh we’re sorry.
What happened was 3Com and Intel ate our lunch and one year latter we had crashed from market leader to a distant number three, never to recover. Humbling, we all lost our jobs, and I learned a lot about integrity.
marksb … thanks! and the tech tale is familiar eh? I worked for a while at a database company which had done very well pre-windows and which was working for a year on developing a win version of their db …one month before launch (all the marketing ready, user groups briefed, etc) I was coming back from lunch and as I entered the door was sent direct to … the big conference room (insert ominous music here) where sat the global heads of the business and the lovely and dejected head of r&d who told me that the win version just. doesn’t. work. So PR lady, what should we say? was of course the question … had to buy time by asking for water and a chair and … they did not like the advice which was get right out there and say “not up to our standard so we aren’t going to ship” … didn’t save the company (competing in db vs MS is not a sustainable business model) but at least we went down with some pride. (even more aside – company in question had awesome tools for midrange, etc machines but were so focused on MS as the competition they missed a wonderful market …where folks like EMC cleaned up … ah well, another sort of lesson – always notice your opportunities!)
I’m so late here, no one may notice this!
But I would be remiss indeed if I didn’t pop in to give warm wishes for more great success to siun –
Bless you, my dear! In this age of p.r. spin, it sometimes seems like the whole industry and its affiliated press “perception managment” operations serves more often than not as the left hand of the devil.
But you show what integrity is all about! And an energy which lifts up others — with optimism and a profound respect.
My hat’s off to you, my dear! [And I just may email this to you later on the reasonable chance that you don’t come back to a dead thread.]
Fills a much-needed gap! Congratulations!
Mrs. K8 dear … thank you!
and you are missed here!
Suin,
I just realized that I commented on other issues upthread but didn’t congratulate you. I know it’s late in the game, but did want to tell you how great I think the news is. Jane & Christy are building a great team and you make a wonderful addition in your “official” capacity.
I was very troubled by the way Jane’s name was bandied about over that incident in August. And I’ve seen some pot shots taken at Christy, as well. I’m glad there will be someone like you watching FDL’s back and building media relations – particularly in the weeks and months to come.
Well Suin, should you stumble back here in the EPU zone, I just want to say congratulations and that I was also inspired by Ambassador Wilson’s comments and the responses. This is the best blog there is.
Dab & brownandserve – popped back to clean up a little spam and saw your kind notes – merci!
We’ll need everyone’s help as we move forward!
