Everyone seems to be in full panic mode over the mere possibility that Iran might have nukes, that such a turn of events could have an unsettling effect on regional stability. Just why is that? I’m far more worried about Pakistans bomb. I rather doubt that even if the Iranians had a nuke, they wouldn’t be dumb enough or vicious enough to engage in some fervid thermonuclear jihad. MAD still works. I have come around to the thinking that an Iranian nuclear capability just might jerk the Israelis up a little shorter on their homicidal leash. It might, in fact, make things more stable. It might make them a bit more willing to quit sabotaging every peace inititiative to come down the pike.

But, but, but.

We already have the strategy. Bush rolled it out several months ago. It was called “Plan For Victory”. Here, let me summarize it.

“Clear, Hold, Build”.

How much detail do you want? Who needs a timeline or exit strategy when you have a comprehensive strategy already in place. We know where we are at. It is called “clear”.

I think this is the October surprise.

Somehow when I did the copy and paste, I couldn’t add anything to it.

The source also revealed that US generals had repeatedly war-gamed a prospective conflict with Iran, but consistently found that the simulations predicted “an absolute nuclear disaster”, from which no clear winner would emerge. The scenarios gamed were so dismal, he said, that the generals briefed administration officials to avoid such a war at all costs. However, the source said that the Bush administration is ignoring the fears of the US military.

took VeryOldMother out for dinner this evening… she’s 87 and while the synapses don’t fire as fast as they used to, after we were done discussing the world’s state of affairs, she calmly said, “if those people don’t get voted out of office, we are going to have rise up and take this country back.”…

87 and still ready for a fight!

Replied to email, saying “Where’s Lamont on that list?” and reminding her that Lieberman isn’t a Dem any more. I’ll do it on paper also.

I don’t run scared, either. My lineage:

Grandmother. Most famous heroics: East Texas. WWII. 1942. Husband 300 miles away, working in the shipyard, therefore raising EIGHT children alone (ages 2-17). Most things are rationed, including tires. Strange thing about that, bad people steal things that are hard to get. So, every night, the older boys remove all tires from the car and lock them in a shed for safekeeping. But it’s not enough. My grandmother woke up in the middle of the night–rustling outside. Something doesn’t sound right. She grabs her shotgun and goes outside just as the thief is about to get away with her tires. It’s someone she knows, and he gets scared when he sees her there. She points the shotgun at him and tells him to put the tires back where he found them. He does. She tells him to start walking, toward the highway in front of her house. He does. She tells him to get in the middle of the road, and not veer one eyelash off the dividing line. By now, he’s sure she’s gonna kill him. He’s begging her for mercy, “Oh please, Miss Sarah, don’t kill me! Please don’t kill me!” All my Nana will say is, “Keep walking.” He doesn’t dare disobey. She marches him three miles down the middle of that highway to the local constable’s office and turns him in. After he’s cuffed and taken away, the constable says, “Sarah, are you crazy? He could have taken that gun from you and killed you!”

My grandmother shrugged and replied, “It wasn’t loaded.”

And she left.
