Anyone seen a 60 foot thunderlizard around these parts?
Last I heard, TRex was spotted on I-10, East of New Orleans and rumbling west. Supposedly, he had a big fishbowl tucked under one tiny arm, and the other arm extended, looking for all the world like some sort of gangly therapod-version of the Heisman trophy.
They said he was muttering something about "giving Jonah Goldberg something to suck his thumb about."
(Caught in the blood-dimmed glare of a snark-addicted, 60-foot carnivorous lizard? Not the best place to end up, I’d wager…)
While I was flipping channels looking for headlines about doughy legacy pundits being stuffed into levees for use as aggregate, I got this update from CNN:
Sen. John Kerry didn’t contest the results at the time, but now that he’s considering another run for the White House, he’s alleging election improprieties by the Ohio Republican who oversaw the deciding vote in 2004.
An e-mail from Kerry will be sent to 100,000 Democratic donors Tuesday asking them to support U.S. Rep. Ted Strickland for governor of Ohio. The bulk of the e-mail criticizes Strickland’s opponent, GOP Secretary of State Ken Blackwell, for his dual role in 2004 as President Bush’s honorary Ohio campaign co-chairman and the state’s top election official.
"He used the power of his state office to try to intimidate Ohioans and suppress the Democratic vote,” Kerry says in the e-mail, according to a copy provided in advance.
It has been alleged that this is proof that Senator Kerry is NOT in a persistent vegetative state. I’ll believe it once I have had a chance to watch someone wave a balloon at the guy.
Honestly, I should admit that I am not sure what to think. If through extended observation it becomes clear that the DLC and other feeding-tube-democrats are actually starting to breathe on their own and perhaps appear that they might be capable of some improvement, I could see the merit of taking a step back and letting nature take its course. On the other hand, after reviewing some of the footage, my impression is that it’s not so much a sign of higher functioning or improvement in the feeding-tube-democrats’ condition as it is some sort of nervous spasms- leftover behaviors that mimic recovery, but are probably just nerves firing, perhaps caused by the commotion outside.
Oh, I didn’t mention the commotion? Well, look out the window! There’s some kind of crazy vigil going on out there….
Look at that sign Bob Shrum is holding:

And then you’ve got Joe Klein out there waving his centrist credentials around and shouting "We shall, We Shall NOT BE MOVED!"
There’s plenty of clamor and clangor for continued un-heroic measures to just keep on keeping on like we have been, and let’s hope Ol’ Kerry sits up and asks for some red meat soon.
I dunno, though…. Why didn’t he sit up and ask on November 5th, 2004? What good is waiting for signs of life now? The old bird’s been looking pretty much room temperature for a WHILE….
I remember back in the summer of 2004 how the smears and jabs were jammed right into Kerry… the Right Wing spanking machine would start its queasy dance of pointing up whatever absurd slur the Rove camp would cook up… they would stick it to Kerry for a couple of days while Kerry’s medical team sort of stood by and wonder of wonders, nothing happened… not even a twitch or an eyeblink. There were some true believers who would say "Can’t you hear him? He’s saying ‘nnnnghhhh… I want…. ssshhhhrrrrllack… to be…. PPPPPPRrresssssss….i…dent……gnah…..’! The lack of animation and lifelessness is a sign of ELECTABILITY!"
I wasn’t too convinced, but I went along with it…Who would call that living, though? Compare to a total non-vegetable like Howard Dean that summer. If they poked Dean, he came back swinging. (Then, of course, CNN played Dr. Kevorkian with his campaign. At least he went down screaming.)
Personally, I have had enough of moaners and droolers.
From now on, I am backing screamers only.
And biters.

Maybe you could ask Bill Frist to take a look at the video of the feeding tube dems, and he could render a firm diagnosis for us – that being his current medical specialty.
Of course, we’d better ask quickly, before Tennessee yanks his license to practice medicine for missing his continuing ed courses and lying about it to the Licensing Board.

Alaska update:
http://www.adn.com/news/govern…..6832c.html
Federal agents swarmed legislative offices around the state Thursday, executing search warrants in a coordinated series of raids that appeared to target the longstanding relationship between the oil-field service company Veco and leading lawmakers.
Above Anchorage’s 4th Avenue, FBI agents spent most of the afternoon behind the closed doors and drawn blinds of the fifth-floor offices of Senate President Ben Stevens and Senate Rules Committee Chairman John Cowdery, both Anchorage Republicans. Through slits in the blinds, one agent in Stevens’ office, wearing rubber gloves, could be seen packing away evidence in a container.
In Juneau, tourists and residents were greeted with the extraordinary sight of FBI agents hauling out files form the Alaska State Capitol after searching offices there.

The funniest thing about Kerry’s run for the presidency was that he actually thought people were voting for HIM. Well, not this dude. I was just voting against Bush. Kerry was like, well….Nosferatu would come close.

Come on, guys, this post is hilarious!
You all can put up more comments than this.
Amen, Brother!!! I read that quote or something similar from Kerry yesterday, and geez, I was so pissed off. After all the Kerry stuff about “making every vote count” and then when I got slammed by “Kerry Goddess” on another blog when I said something like Kerry ought to hung up by his b**ls.
A friend of mine when to prep school with Kerry (same class) and way back then was (said to be) aloof and somehow knowing that he was special. BTW, what instrument did he play that band he was in?
orangejumpsuit @ 14
Oh, hell, I dunno. I really liked watching him whup W’s ASS in that first debate. That was nice.
My brother had a very funny post about that the next day.
TRex- it’s hilarious, but in such a true way. Sometimes it difficult to distinguish between laughter and laughter through the tears. Kerry f***ed us, and really, I have no respect for the guy.
…when I said something like Kerry ought to hung up by his b**ls.
That’s assuming he has any.
kerry was a dissappointment.
Patrick is not!
Okay, we need a YouTube expert to find a clip of Kerry’s band.
To be serious about this, Kerry is a fine guy, a devoted American, and among the least gifted pols of his time. I have never doubted his spine – the guy’s a fuckin’ war hero – but his political instincts left him long ago. Bringing Mary Beth Cahill onboard just poured JP-5 on the embers.
Now I’m in trouble with the MA contingent in this place!
I was soooooooo sad in November of 2004.
My brother did a really good post about that, too.
That’s the thing, y’all, my brother started blogging waaaaaaaay back in 2003 and has consistently been churning out top-notch, intelligent, on-target commentary every day since then. Just dip back randomly into his archives and see what he was talking about on any given day and you’ll find that he consistently hits every issue from a perspective of intelligence, humor, and unfailing compassion.
He’s a mensch.
I was voting for Edwards and against Bush. Kerry was the inconvenient brother you have to take with you when you go somewhere.
The thing about Kerry that’s enraging is that he’s the kind of jerk who knows all the right answers but can’t be bothered. He couldn’t be bothered to fight for the votes in Ohio because he was worried about how it would look. Well, fk that.
It’s crazymaking because apparently he really was a “war hero” in Vietnam, but since when has he risked anything? He’s like J Lie with his “I marched in the civil rights movement so I never have to do anything for those people again and you all have to admire me anyway.”
It’s really all part of the Incumbency Racket disease: These people think once they get the big ticket into the club they never have to take ongoing education classes.
We’re off reading I Speak Dog.
LLNoFDL !
screamers and biters with the truth are in.
Kerry still triggers my ptsd from the ‘04 election. Not sure when that will ever go away.
newtonusr- I agree: “among the least gifted pols of his time… but his political instincts left him long ago.” It is so sad, isn’t it, considering that Kerry was a war hero, served with distinction. Probably need a shrink to explain the difference between his Viet-nam combat, and his political combat.
TRex- we need more of Patrick at FDL. Is the neighborhood too rough, or what? And, btw, I have asked this question several times, w/o reply- are you identical or fraternal twins?
From 3 Nov, 2004:
Patrick – you were out in front of John Dean with that piece. One of his chief postulates in Conservatives Without Conscience is the willingness of the roped to allow any debasement in the service of the “greater good”.
Bravo (as depressing as it was).

At yKos, I had a chance to talk with some MA Dems, some who are regulars on this Lake. They really really love the guy, and we know why. And John Kerry had a lot of fight when he got back from Vietnam – evidenced here, and elsewhere:
http://www.richmond.edu/~ebolt…..imony.html
But there is a truth we as Democrats & Progressives must confront:
There are only two Democrats on the planet who are qualified to be The President of the United States, and have what it takes to restore what has been lost these last years. Their names aren’t John Kerry or Hillary Clinton – their names are Bill Clinton and Albert Gore, and only one is eligible.
And Patrick…
A good number of us thought the same way, but few put it as well.

Re the FBI searches of offices of the GOP Alaska Legislative leadership this afternoon:
Local evening TV news revealed nothing new. The warrants requested documents related to Veco, a big player in upcoming oil and gas deals. The governor, who came in third in the GOP primary here ten days ago, was expected to call a special session of the legislature tomorrow.
That session will be to continue looking at future tax structures for oil extraction and for solutions to the natural gas dilemma on the north slope.
Many top players in the Alaska house and senate were searched. One was the son of US Sen. Ted Stevens, who some had predicted would emerge within the next two weeks to take Don Young’s place on the GOP ballot for Young’s seat in DC.
Another was Wasilla Rep. Vic Kohring, who came in on the Gingrich tide and has been Alaska’s most prominent poster boy for the Grover Norquist-Tim VcVeigh axis of mainsream GOP politics statewide, and especially where I have the fortune to live.
Thanks VG, I’ll catch it at work tomorrow, in my newfound state of efficiency!

Sounds like perhaps Veco is on the verge of breaking their 1985 record. Interesting comment by the company president, though, that the “company’s political involvement is a self-defense effort.” Is this just a weird turn of phrase from a year-old interview, or could he be talking obliquely about a shakedown?

Keith Olbermann (MSNBC COUNTDOWN) had it tonight. I missed it, so I’m going to C&L now.
Stooopid question: you get MSNBC? See Keith last night?
hi newtonusr,
I saw Keith Oberman on C&L. Wonderful. Is Oberman known as a ‘Liberal’. We do not get Msnbc. We do get the PBS newshour with Jim Leher (I think) at 5 pm on SBS, the closest thing we have to a World news channel. NOt a great time to catch it.
How do you reply with the quote you are replying to?
Girl from Oz,
Click “quote this comment” at the bottom of the one you’re responding to.
girl from Oz @ 103
Olbermann has been a hero with Progressives for a long time, primarily for being a truth-teller and a terrific interviewer. He has the esteem of John Dean, Pat Buchanan, and most in between. Liberal? His personal politics, with the current bunch in power, is “Citizen”. As for party, don’t know.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keith_Olbermann
In one of his previous stints, he covered the Clinton-Lewinski business in-depth. So, any claims of bias are short-sighted.
Quoting: See the “Quote This Comment” button @ the end of each post? Click it and that post appears in the comment box. Then append.
I could not vote for Kerry a second time around if I was in your shoes. I never got over his being in the Grand Canyon and saying he would of backed his vote to go to Iraq even though we now know there was no WMD. Just seemed so stupid.
Over here we have Kim Beazley looking like running again for a second time against Howard (Bush’s mate)and it makes me feel very dismal. We do not have your primary system which quite complex for me looking in but at least offers choice. We have to go with the choice of the party. I am hoping there will be a reshuffle.
I want David Hicks to come home and have the right to trial of any Australian. Oh, for change.

Is Howard the mendacious prick we think he is?
Did you see a vid of Kerry goose hunting in Oct. 2004? The most embarrassing pander in the history of teevee: “Look @ Me – Gun and all”. He did not cover himself in glory.
girl from Oz-
Didn’t mean to suggest that John Dean was/is a liberal. But he holds the Republic at the center of his civic life, so he is one of my personal heros. Actually, he’s a Barry Goldwater Republican!

I liked Dean. He has guts. labels are only generalities arn’t they? I kind of gathered that people are saying they are progressive now. Just trying to find out if people leaning to the right like Oberman or tune hime out like I tune out Howard these days.
Yes, Howard is the mendacious prick you think he is. Many of us can’t stand him. He has successfully equated economic security with all things noble in politics and people here vote for him in the belief that their mortgages are safe. He is not stupid, a very canny politician.
He has the economy on his side which is more than I can say for Bush – the mind boggles!
Is Howard the mendacious prick we think he is?
Yes!
Has equated all things noble with good economy. Howard exploits this very successfully.
Sad.
I like Dean. He is doing a fantastic job. Guts.
Bush. Howard. Harper. Blair – clues abound. And except for the first one, they all speak English.
Does Howard suggest that Iraq is good for the Australian economy, and therefore, worth it? The crap we let our pols get away with…
Whereas, Fartacus’ thing is the Bible, or so he wants a few of us to believe.
Just pandering: it’s been a while since I pulled them out, but I have a well-worn and beloved complete set of Arthur Upfield’s “Bony” novels. I hate to admit that most of what I know about Australlia, I learned from Napoleon Bonaparte!
Kerry is a vegtable what we need is a guy like that lefty mexican who IS NOT ACCEPTING DEFEAT even though the election commission guys are not giving him a recount. Forget stablity! SHUT DOWN THE CAPITAL no orders from an illegitamte president who is guilty of war crimes should be accepted! We owe humanity no less, Everyone is depending on US! even if you live in the boonies and just show up in some small town and block traffic if everyone does a little havoc! Our Chaos can be unstopable! No peace in November without the House!
girl from Oz @ 114
The sceptic I am drives me to this:
If the Dems don’t recapture one body of the legislature, House & Senate Dems are cueing-up Dean for the blame. But his strategy is sound: build from the bottom up, establish a “party presense” in all 50 states. Wish we’d started 20 years ago.
mOropeza @ 116
The nightmare is that Americans will have to lay down in traffic to end the current slide. The middle class is still too “middle” for it to happen yet.
The people will be to blame, not Dean.
Iraq is bad for Howard. We have always been squashed between you guys and the Brits. Blair supporting Bush just nailed the coffin for Howard.
Many people, including my mother, voted for Labour for the first time ever because they were upset about Iraq. Just not enough. Mortagages and interest rates won through. Rising petrol prices is very bad for HOward.
Also linked somewhat to war in Iraq.
Worst for him is his newly proposed Industrial Relations laws – very conservative you could say. Enough Australians stand to lose ‘their Aussie weekend,’ it may tilt the balance this time.
and perhaps more people are getting worried about civil liberties – we do not want to follow the new ‘American’ way. Two weeks ago the LIberals tried to establish big boats to lock up people trying to sail in – indefinitely…..was squashed in the senate – thank God.
Bush is an Idoit! what ever he cares about the most and spends his time on (like oil) he will mess up Because he is an idoit. The seeds of his destruction will likly come from $5 dollar a gallon gas resulting from another war (Iran ) you know he wants to, an other hurricane (global warming a CONSEQUENCE OF BURING OIL) or maybe the years of neglect the power and oil companies in particular suffered by neglecting maintence and running plants to the ground for short term profit during the Enron era. Anyway $5 gas I’m sure will get the middle class rioting! Torture, Killing, Illegal invasions of countries with no WMD might not matter but $5 gas heck we might nationalise the oil companies!
Americans (too many, anyway) have laid down and allowed their civil liberties to be trampled. From fear. It’s amazing, the calculation used to drive people under their beds. Suddenly, Americans are petrified. This used to be a can-do nation, and BushCo has America cowering, finding or creating enemies everywhere. It is the Witch-Hunts gone High Tech! In this period, we’re willing to allow government intrusions that were unthinkable.
A couple of days ago, Brian Williams of NBC News interviewed Fartacus in New Orleans. They walked and talked in several settings. While in front of a Katrina-destroyed residential block, Williams asked Bush about America’s standing in world opinion. After the typical dance, Bush said that America feeds the world. When the Tsunami hit, America responded.
Here he is, in devastated New Orleans, fronting a leveled street formerly occupied by Americans, declaring that we’re humane, a beacon, all-powerful. The irony was thundering.
We need a leader who is willing to call for a riot if the election is stolen again. Letting bush steal an election again would be an act of treason on our part.
I wonder if any democrat has the stones to lead us!
mOropeza @ 123
Then that would be the third, at least.
Good morning, all!
Hope my computer and FDL’s are back on speaking terms today (guess we’re about to find out) …

girl from Oz, hello and welcome! ‘Bout time for FDL Sunrise Service, so what’ll you have? I’ve got a pot of Twining’s Irish Breakfast brewing, Old Sow or somebody is no doubt ready with the Kona, I smell wonderful fruit pastry aromas from OS and beard5’s kitchens, tommy yum does the World’s Best Omelets, and today I have more nice fresh figs to share. Of course, there’s also medaka to pour you a nightcap, if that suits you better.
How we’re spoze to get from here to mid-October without our punaise, though, I’m not quite sure . . .
P.S. ‘At a turnip up top, er one a them ruterbaggers?
Morning All……….52 degrees and clear on the coast of Maine……fresh coffee’s ready….any takers?….
Morning OS!
Ref your 8/22 – so sorry about your Dear Friend. Hope all is better.
Left you a disturbing link @ 95… can’t seem to duplicate here.
Coffee!!!
Thanks for your compassion, Newton. The remains have been put to rest, and the community is readjusting. We’re going to help get the fire wood in on Sunday, and then stay on for the annual Labor Day gathering. Life goes on.
Did you mean the Sen Byrd article? I haven’t read through the thread and comments. Came here first to share the java…….
No. I don’t even want to paste the title in FDL – it’s that creepy. Duplicated below. Pass on it ’til the day has developed some.

Lets not forget who did stand up and get a recount in Ohio: Green Party Presidential candidate David Cobb.
Kerry, prior to election day 2004, boasted of having legions of lawyers around the country ready to defend the vote against republican fraud.
But, when it became clear that something had gone terribly wrong in Ohio, what did the Kerry campaign do?
Nothing.

John Kerry was wrong. As the Al Gore campaign before. Not challenging the possible/probably theft of an election immediately, loudly, and persistently is anti-American. These guys dropped the ball and none of the other Dems stooped to pick it up.
That said, can we do a better job of it this time around? The stakes are pretty high. Getting the fascists out of office seems pretty important just about now…….
and from other early morning reading…. about the Human Rights Watch report and responses
“You’re biased” is not a rebuttal.”
snip
“At least some of the report’s critics seem to believe that Israel should be exempted from the rules of war. Thus, Abe Foxman of the Anti-Defamation League, who has accused Human Rights Watch of “immorality at the highest level,” says: “The moral issue, the human rights issue that overrides everything else in this conflict is that if Hezbollah, Syria and Iran don’t understand that they will pay an overwhelming price for these rocket attacks on Israel, then eventually these rockets will be armed with chemical weapons and the warheads with nuclear weapons. In other words, the Holocaust would be in the works.”
http://www.washingtonpost.com/…..45_pf.html
“As Jan Egeland, who heads up humanitarian operations for the United Nations, put it:
“What’s shocking – and I would say to me completely immoral – is that 90% of the cluster bomb strikes occurred in the last 72 hours of the conflict, when we knew there would be a resolution. Every day people are maimed, wounded, and are killed by these ordnance.”

Mornin’, everyone.
Any word from FDLers in the Carolinas? I know that I (and lotus et al.) appreciated the thoughts when it was our turn.
Mornin’, guys. Hope everyone on both coasts staring at Ernesto and John are safe. Take care these hours.
A not-so-facetious suggestion this morning that FDL consider a book salon on 1984. Newspeak, constant wars…past is prologue and now Fartigula is going for the long term. If they can take this election, we’ll be in wars forever.
And hey, how ’bout that Kyra Phillips doing Dave Letterman’s Top Ten [CBS.com will be sure to have this]. The woman had a mortifying experience, yet she’s got the spunk [what’s that you say, Lou Grant? You hate spunk?] to appear on Letterman and make fun of it. I give her props this morning. And Letterman…a first class guy.

Same here on hoping everyone’s okay.
Good on Kyra for laughing at herself. I read that her husband is Muslim (Irani), so she may be more sympathetic than most think.
Good idea re: salon in 1984. I wonder if the lesser-read “It Can’t Happen Here” might be a good idea, too (not that there aren’t many, many new books to read) It’s one of my many pick-it-up-and-read-a-chapter-while-waiting-for-Mom paperbacks right now. It’s more the creeping fascism stage, and might help us better engage those who still don’t get it.
Good morning, Prairie Sunshine! (I always wanted to say that) Morning, pups.
I’m working my way through Overthrow by Stephen Kinzer. It’s about US foreign policy since the 19th century. Unfortunately, nothing happening now looks very different…….
John Casper @ 4:07, too bad comments can’t be spotlighted. I’ll just have to do it the hard way.
John Casper,
Thanks for sharing that article on Miss England. A very wise and courageous young woman, to be sure.
And thanks for posting the Top Ten — I was just going to go look for it, and it appeared in my browser. Ahhh, it’s a good morning when I get my humor delivered…

Is Jane our Karl Rove?
John Casper – why should Cavuto or Fox “News” bother with the truth when lying is just so much more fun? I mean, when you lie, you get to make the “news” what you want the news to be, and not have to deal with what really is…and isn’t that so much better?
Old Sow @ 159
Upon careful reconsideration, I did.
ummm…ccmask…I can’t speak for Jane, but I know one of the last people I would want to be compared to is Karl Rove. People who speak truth are as different from Karl Rove as night is from day.
I think I get what you are trying to say, but maybe you should expand your thoughts a little.
I was never so glad to see anyone leave CNBC as Cavuto … until I 99.9% left it too, that is.

Imm, how’s the day? You survived the Big Dig?
I was just reading the late night thread and how crazy Gerstein has become. I was thinking that Karl Rove has made so many Dems as crazy. So, in my mind, I was thinking that Jane was completely upsetting the campaign as Karl Rove has done for so many years. That’s all…
The big dig is now a big pain in the patooti if you are headed to the airport because only the Callahan tunnel is ope from my end (the north). But coming back was a mysterious breeze….

and now for something completely different:
http://news.yahoo.com/photos/s…..259558.jpg
I am not a Kerry apologist. What I do share with him is a New England background. Up here in this neck of the woods it is generally considered “lowering” yourself to respond to remarks that are totally inane – Like the Swiftboating crap.
People up here just give jerks an evil eye after they recover from the shock of such idiocy. This is inate – it happened to me last week, and it created enough of an upset that I finally addressed yesterday. Takes time to process that kinda thing when you are “bred” to “ignore it”.
Now his so called DLC team – they know better and should have responded immediately, if not sooner!
Such a cutie! Thanks for that, twolf. Did you see/hear this one the other day (maybe you even posted it)?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5AXUN-XGTc
Was spying on Tai & Mei’s wakings-up earlier this morning. Guess they may be in for an indoor-play day at the Nat’l Zoo today too . . .
Jezus H. Chrites, will you guys let up? The race was 2 years ago, there was no way that the Ohio results were going to be overturned (see Bush v. Gore). Remember where the country was at that time? Bush still had better than 52% approval and most of the country still supported the war. Hell, a large percentage still think we found WMD in Iraq!
Hey, JK wasn’t my preferred candidate in the primaries, but that decision wasn’t mine. He ran a decent campaign, came closer to beating an incumbent in a time of war than any other opposition candidate in the history of the US but still lost.
Jokes about him being a vegetable or cardboard cutout have a certain sophomoric appeal (as in high school sophomore), but are counterproductive in the long run. Is JK our enemy? Is it he who we want to defeat this fall?
Since the last election Kerry has raised millions of dollars for Democratic candidates around the country. He was one of the first to back Lamont after the primary and has volunteered to campaign with and raise money for him.
Why don’t you save your wit and condemnation for the people who deserve it more.
BTW, Gore, during his campaign, didn’t exactly come off as lively himself, did he? But I voted for him and would again. There isn’t a lot that separate the two of them, except one has had the freedom of being out of office the last six years.
Thanks, Patrick. I’ll be carrying that wonderful mental image with me all day.
Lotus, yeah, I did post that sneezy bear video. Such a giant sneeze from such a little thing!
here’s another funny shot
http://news.yahoo.com/photos/s…..0108240117
Personally, I have had enough of moaners and droolers.
From now on, I am backing screamers only.
And biters.
Why not back someone who has already won a presidential election? Someone who fought election fraud all the way to the Supreme Court? Someone who has called for the repeal fo the Patriot Act? Someone who spoke out against the Iraq war back when it was just a bad idea? Someone who recognizes the “supreme moral crisis of our time?
How about someone after the midterms?
That’s the only thing that is important now. The midterms. It may not matter who’s running or not if we don’t get a Democratic majority in the Congress. We need a check on the power in Washington or the chance of getting a fair election in ‘08 is nil.
Don’t waste your time talking any of the prospectives up or down, it isn’t important now. Get off your ass and volunteer for any Democratic candidate. Make phone calls, raise money, talk to your friends, but make it about now and the elections in two months. Not two years from now.
Yeah, some of our people aren’t the greatest, but they are ours. If you don’t like a Dem, fine, don’t campaign for him/her. Find one that you like and work for them. The Repugs don’t need any help attacking Dems. Attack the real problem, this Administration, this Repug Congress.
In two months, run over any Dem you like…AFTER THE ELECTION!
The Primaries are (mostly) over, we have our candidates, lets get to work!

Appreciate the acknowledgement, but I’m not sure you do know why. My admiration for Kerry started in 1971 but it’s only increased in the years since then. He’s a serious, thoughtful man who has real heart. His youthful enthusiasm and focus were often confused with aloofness, but people who know him understand that he is among the warmest and most personable politicians on the planet. I could tell story after story about the things he has done for people who have crossed his path – people who are neither famous nor rich nor powerful.
Kerry took on corrupt politicians from both parties when he investigated BCCI and Iran/Contra. He stood basically alone on BCCI, and under great pressure to abandon his investigation. He still has never received the respect and credit he desrved for his courage.
I understand how much fun it is to indulge in heavy snark, but calling Kerry a vegeatable is just stupid and mean. And frankly since Kerry is still out there fighting the good fight every day for what is presumably “our side”, it pisses me off to see him trashed. If you don’t want to see him run for president again, fine. That’s your opinion, and you have a right to it. But you don’t speak for me, and you don’t speak for a whole lot of other people who know get who he really is.
Nor is Goldberg suitable levee filler
Kerry is not a vegetable, and Goldberg, despite the assertion in the blog item, would not be any good as levee fill. One theory for why the levees failed in NO is that the soils used to build them contained too much “peat”. This is the technical term for chunks of organic material large enough to compromise the structural integrity of the levee as it slowly rots and leaves holes where the chunks used to be. The largest chunks of concern discussed in the context of the NO levees have been tree stumps. Now, we don’t have Giant Redwoods in Louisiana, and I can testify that our largest stumps would not constitute so large a future structural defect as the carcass of Jonah Goldberg would displace. NO has suffered enough! Please don’t wish unsuitable levee fill on us, however much such a use for Goldberg might benefit the rest of the nation.

how’s the compost supply? – Goldberg may be a useful source of nitrogen/phosphorus for large piles requiring adjustments….

I think if you review further up-thread, you’ll see I extoll the virtues of Senator Kerry, and decry his weaknesses.
As a lifelong very liberal Democrat, I have tremendous personal respect for John Kerry. I know him as a crime-fighter and a man of deep personal courage.
But this isn’t pussyfooting around – the guy was the Democratic Party nominee for President, and the Progressive nation stood in dumbfounded anticipation as minutes became hours, became days, weeks (?) before Kerry offered his flatfooted response to the SwiftestOfLiars, before he slung a shotgun over his shoulder and bagged himself a goose in the most obvious pander in the history of Democratic politics.
Perhaps JK listened to Mary Beth too much. I don’t know. But a basic defense of ones self isn’t a bad political reflex to have.
I love the guy. I really do. I just think perhaps he’s been in the Senate too long to be an effective campaigner for President.
I did not, and would not call him a vegetable.
I do not seek, nor would I, to speak for you or anyone else.
Sorry to have gotten your hackles up, although I know I would.
Hackles are up? Are you kidding me? You attack a team player…a team player that Jane and Christy have complimented on this very site numerous times and you wonder why ‘hackles are up’?
Please…You have no idea what happens in a presidential campaign. You have no idea the extent of the media corruption and the pr campaign against this guy. I know that for a fact because the very link I posted on this site giving this information was deleted by your moderators (3x).
Kerry was fighting a bigger entity than anyone realized. You too would know this if your mods would actually leave links to other sites that give out information.
So…why don’t you find out for yourself what Creative Response Concepts has to do with why Kerry’s rebuttal to the SBLiars was ‘ineffective’. And you’ll also realize that these people will and can take anyone down unless we stop this bull crap of attacking our own side. Because they are the link between the swifties and the media’s smear attack against kerry. They’re well funded and they use to keep themselves hidden. Now, they’ve decided to brag.
BUT…when you review their site you might realize that Kerry was back-stabbed by people within the media and even his own party members who decided to hang Kerry out to dry so that it wouldn’t ruin their 08 run.
Oh, yeah, sadie, you’re speaking my language.
No, I don’t blame Kerry for much of what went wrong in the campaign. The democratic party had not one attack dog out fighting for Kerry, while Georgie had 1000 surrogates all over the airways 24/7, tearing Kerry to shreds. I blame the democratic party for letting a good candidate down.
Yes. A GOOD CANDIDATE, and an inspiring speaker with a message of hope.

Just for the record, I posted these lyrics because they came to mind when I saw the picture of the rutabaga.
The chorus of the song is:
“Rutaba-a-aga, rutaba-a-aga,
rutaba-a-aga, rutaba-a aga.”
I was merely trying to tickle the funnybone of FZ fans; it was not meant to be a put-down of John Kerry, who I greatly admire.
