As a way of showing our appreciation to Keith Olbermann for taking Donald Rumsfeld to the much-deserved woodshed, earlier today we posted a link to his book The Worst Person in the World: And 202 Strong Contenders on Amazon and asked people to buy it. It subsequently moved from #19,000 on the sales ranking list to #99 #60 #25 #2. Thanks so much to everyone who helped to push it up there.
From us to you, Keith. Our way of saying thanks.

OLBERMANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!
Keith!
This weekend freewaybloggers will be putting up “impeach” signs across the country.
http://freewayblogger.blogspot.....t-3rd.html
cardboard, paint and the ability to use it, that’s all it takes.
Jane:
It’s Olbermann. With two “N”s.
The founding fathers– smart and devoted and sometimes confused! but
Driven!!!
I did my share !
Dan Patrick!
Kinda nice to see what the blogosphere can do, eh?
Jane, are you going to invite Keith to the Book Salon for some more Firedog love and encouragement?
neurophius @ 6
When you’re running a blog with new posts every 30 minutes, who has time to check spelling?
This is one of those times I wish I had a TV or video viewing capability on the computer (it’s a work computer, so I can’t download new programs). I have sent the commentary around my email network.
I’ll buy the book too!
In other news, Bill Nelson now has a 43 point lead over Katherine Harris. Does any other D have it so easy in his/her Senate race?
Andy
“Once a government is committed to the principle of silencing the voice of opposition, it has only one way to go, and that is down the path of increasingly repressive measures, until it becomes a source of terror to all its citizens and creates a country where everyone lives in fear.

bw, bw, bwahahahahhaha!
Three of Keith’s guests tonight mentioned his principled speech from last night, when they were on…Barbara Boxer, Rocky Anderson, adn John Dean.
It’s a very, very big deal. It will embolden the
terroristsDemocrats through the election, and beyond. We’re bringin’ you DOWN Chimpy!Mr. Olbermann is the shiznit to be sure. If only he’d lose the celebrity gossip BS the show would be golden.
Olbermann’s book is now up to #48.
Line forming over here to have his babies.
Me first.
It’s the celestial drops, I tell you!
She used to be my Congresscritter. Now I have a colorless but reliable Democrat, Jerry Costello. I’ll definitely take Costello.
Oh (and to stay semi-on topic) Katy made “Worst Person in the World” on KO’s show a time or two. Anyone have vidcaps?

Keith is great and I’m gunna get the book but have you heard any rumblings from the Fitz compound…anything at all bein’ speculated? We surely could use an October surprise from Fitz hopfully before the big one falls on Tehan.
KEEP THE FAITH AND STRAP IT UP THEY’RE GUNNA MAKE US WORK FOR THIS ONE!!!
Hey gang — if you haven’t tried the Spotlight function, this is a GREAT article to send around. Olberman is getting an enormous amount of pushback from the wingnut-o-sphere at the moment. Getting his back on this, and making sure the media outlets know that we have his back, would be a great thing to do for him.
So, if you have a few moments, please take some time and Spotlight this post to some journalists that you think should know about it. Thanks!

Well, I, uh, ordered his book…
Update…
Amazon.com Sales Rank: #48 in Books ; )
Olbermann is doing some major heavy-duty lifting. Bench pressing Rove, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice and the rest. All at once! Just the thought gives me a hernia. Also makes me aware I ought to be doing more. Much more.
I wonder what the sales will be 24 hours from now? FireDogLake is showing some serious influence over consumer buying I wonder how you compare to a major newspaper in terms of influence? Also you should probably raise your ad rates. By the way what does FireDogLake mean if anything? just curious oh! and your all great!
Wow, I can’t believe it went up that fast!
I did my part.
How much does FDL receive for each book sold via this site?
cleter #69 last thread:
Sorry, I was called to dinner and it was my turn to wash dishes. How’s ol’ Huck?
I would like to take a moment to address the concept of appeasement.
Donald Rumsfeld, please take note.
Appeasement is what happened on September 8th, 1974…When Gerald Ford, Nixon’s hand-picked successor pardoned Nixon for any and all offences committed by him during his term of office, and gave him sole possession of the physical evidence against him.
Appeasement is what happened December 24, 1992…when George H.W. Bush pardoned Casper Weinberger and others in advance of their trial for their Iran-Contra activities, calling them ‘patriots’ (who incidentally commited treason by selling arms to a rogue state, breaking a congressional amendment specifically enacted to forbid such hanky-panky in the process) and bemoaning the ‘criminalization of policy differences’.
Appeasement is spending over $40 million and 5 years to wind up investigating an extramarital blowjob, as a sop to faux moralists who engaged freely in their own private peccadilloes away from such intense scrutiny.
Appeasement is enacting and rushing back to sign into existence a federal law that would force a feeding tube down a brain-dead person’s gullet as a stratagem to energize purblind religious voters.
Appeasement is giving tax cuts to the wealthy and tax breaks to large multinational companies at the expense of the expanding poor and shrinking middle class…Forcing America’s fighting men and women to use inadequate equipment and sacrifice their families’ well-being so that a war fought on behalf of petroleum companies using them as proxies can be prosecuted…Doing away with rights, freedoms, and legal oversight so that a unitary executive theory of dubious provenance, unsustainable outside of such optimum conditions can thrive like a malignant weed.
Appeasement is not legitimate questioning of authority.
And it is not insisting that global realities trump narrowly ideological pipe dreams created over 30 years ago in an earlier corruption of the American political process.
But some will have plenty of time to ponder these contrasts.
International war crimes trials do have a habit of dragging on somewhat.
Guess what everyone I know is getting for festivus this year? (My order is in.)
How do you check the sales ranking of a book on Amazon? I can’t find it on their Web site.
Alal-Scooter @

Festivus…for the rest of us? *G*
Some righteous indignation on another subject from Mr. Wolcott for those so inclined:

Won’t take but a minute.
poputonian @ 29
Festivus? I’ll get the pole out of the crawlspace…
I’m giving everyone free books from Focus on the Family’s website. I’ll keep the KO book for myself! hehe
(Did I say free books from FOF website? Why yes I did! Go drain their coffers if you are bored. No, I’m not really giving the books away though. The pages may end up in the litter box though ;)).
neurophius @ 6
Sorry, I should have added: I commend you for giving Keith the recognition he deserves. His piece last night was incredible.
Keith is the bomb, it started for me, when Keith took B.OReilly to task for his Malmedy rant. B.OReilly did not just do it once but he twice, with the same person. Gen Wesley Clark.
Olbermann would definitely win the feats of strength, and the airing of grievances is gonna take a while…
I’ve just placed my order, after reading this post.
It was an amazing segment last night. I belive that Mr. Murrow would be proud.

Its done!
Hi Jane.
Couple things I noticed tonite and thought of you.
1) Boxer called for Rumsfelds resignation because he said we question “at our nations peril” - her words! (Olbermann 8/31)
2) O’Donnell mentioned very emphatically that they have been having the hardest time getting Dems to appear on camera to rebut the administration’s pr blitz. (Hardball 8/31)
Both had me shaking my head and hoping you’d highlight the hypocrisy (1) and ineptitude (2)
Olberman, I Thank You! The man deserves a medal!
He has shown more concern for the US than the Republicans ever have.
I waited for an eternity for the quick time clip to load at C & L just so I could watch someone - anyone, rip Rumsfield apart peice by fucking peice.
The Three Stooges, Bush Cheney and Rumsfield are without doubt the worst thing that has happened to America in recent times (not withstanding 911) Those 3 fools could have prepared New Orl. for Katrina and minimised the damage but they just sat back and let it happen.
The man is an absolute disgrace to the United States of America and should be tried and Jailed for his actions.
Surcam @ 18

Maybe O’Donnell should ask the bloggers to appear?
Bush made the statement that the terr’ists are all united in a common goal. Well, yeah, and bank robbers aren’t?
As for his self-touted strategery…Nixon had a secret plan, too, for the 1972 election. Iraq/ME ain’t WW2…it’s Vietnam all over again.
Twisted Martini @ 35
The “Airing of Grievances” with the Neo cons would go on for hours and lest we forget the “The Feats of Strength’ see how good Cheney is with someone who WILL fight back!
I’m all excited now! … Festivus is only a few months away!
We ARE the people.
.
I just bought Keith’s book.
Newt Gingrich, who was bemoaning “partisan politics” just a few weeks ago is now using geography to divide America, like the true small minded assclown he is.
A douchebag says what?
Gingrich on Pelosi.
“The prospect of her bringing San Francisco values and a whole attitude on foreign policy that is, I think, an attitude of weakness and appeasement and surrender, I think, would be a disaster for the country,”
-GSD
Remember how outraged this set was at the use of the word LIE?

Someone give Nora O’D Rocky Anderson’s phone number. He’s in the book. SLC. Utah. Mayor. Not shy.
Soon the Republicans will be but a by-product of a Democratic rout. We’re ready to rumble.
I got one.
And since it’s payday and I had my card out, I ordered this beautiful weapon for my arsenal.
Just wanted to add that in addition to supporting Keith with my order for this book, I also sent my emails of support to MSNBC, et al, for his piece on last night’s show.
Several popular progressive blogs posted five email addresses for this and I cc’d my supportive comments too all of them.
I would encourage you to do the same, if you’ve not already.

This Melanie Phillips creature that Wolcott quotes seems to be spouting the same talking points as our delusional Rumsfeld.
She spews: “[M]uch of the most incendiary media coverage of this war seems to have been either staged or fabricated. The big question is why the western media would perpetrate such institutionalised mendacity…………………….
http://www.jameswolcott.com/
“What bothers me the most is how clever the enemy is,” he continued, launching an extensive broadside at Islamic extremist groups which he said are trying to undermine Western support for the war on terror.
“They are actively manipulating the media in this country” by, for example, falsely blaming U.S. troops for civilian deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan, he said….
http://www.washingtonpost.com/.....79_pf.html
Talking points anyone?
Amazon not only supports FDL, it supports the economy of North Dakota via its customer service center in Grand Forks, a corporation that came into ND after the disastrous 1997 flooding…back in the day when FEMA and America functioned very well, thank you.
If you’re not inclined to buy KO’s book, do, please, put it on the request list of your local library. Can’t stress enough that these folks do a lot of networking. And this is just the kind of book that would appeal to the people who protested turning over people’s reading records with no regard for legalities.
Or you can order an extra copy and donate it to your library…. small stones.
T-rex at 57 that link does not show any actual product, at least when I tried it.
op99 @ 48
She has been great this week. Maybe an email drive?
I cringed when I heard her use the “democrats are all over the place” line. Was ready to throw my shoe. :)
Then she followed up with “why have we been having such a hard time getting Dems to come on and rebut”, and I redirected my anger towards those spineless dipshits we prop up each day cause theyre our best hope. (for now)
Quick Arts & Entertainment question for DaLakers:
I bought ‘All the President’s Men’ on impulse when I went to get ‘Good Night and Good Luck’ tonite.
In the comments on the back it mentions Bob Woodward. Ewwwwwwwww!
Can I watch this movie and still post here in good faith? Is it a good movie? Does Robert Redford approve of what Woody is doing these days?
Did any of y’all hear the FDL shout out on the Majority Report? The thread earlier today “Karl Rove’s Desperate Measures” was the base of Mr. Seder’s whole opening spiel - with attribution, of course.
the book is in the mail.

Gingrich. It is a mark of how snookered and desperate the Republicans are that Gingrich is taken seriously. If there is a man rating less respect than Bush, it has to be Newt.

Anderson Cooper reported that Iraqi deaths are down from July to August.
But American deaths increased.
Is that what Rumsfeld calls “progress”?
Or is it “turning the corner”?
Sometimes I get confused.
Mr. Bush “Some people say” that you are behaving like a dictator and a fascist?
What say you, dink face?
By the way, how is that lovefest with Muammar El Ghaddaffi going for you. You know, the guy who took power 37 years ago? The guy who was allowed to stay in power and who was never threatened? Why didn’t the Ghadaffi strategy work on Iran?
You know the crazy terrorist who blew up a plane full of innocent holiday vacationers. You know, the guy who you and Rummy appeased in order to have a smiley faced Arab leader in your corner.
Wacky Ghaddaffi

Now try it.
So, I heard highlights of Rummy’s speach while I was far from home. For a thousand miles, I listened to my satelite radio and stewed about this bastard. When I got home, I was loaded for bear, (none of this canned quail shit) and proceeded to release a scorched earth diatribe about Secretary “Throwing Bull” Dumsfeld.
While looking for material, I came across Olbermann’s “burning bush” analysis.
I felt like the Indian on the Mesa sending smoke signals, looking over at the mushroom cloud from the nuclear test.
“Damn, I wish I had said that.”
The poor helpless Bush administration just doesn’t have the ability to muster the propaganda resources that Al Qaeda can.

egregious — the number of fetuses in Tehran is 150,000 ! population is 12million and birthrate is 17 per 1000 produces 200,000 births/year so 9 months of prebirths is 150,000 ! That’d be an awful lot of fetuses for Atomic-Abortionist Bush to deal with in one fell swoop!

Yes, what OldCoastie said. I just ordered my copy of Olbermann’s book, and noticed that it’s number 38 on the sales list. Hooray!
I hope Bush is reading Henry IV, cause he needs to learn, like Prince Hal, what it means to grow up and think seriously about governing. As a first step on the road to a new maturity, he could banish the idiot Don Rumsfeld from the Cabinet:
If to be old and merry be a sin, then many an old host that I know is damned….No, my good lord: banish Peto, banish Bardolph, banish Poins; but for sweet Jack Falstaff, kind Jack Falstaff, true Jack Falstaff, valiant Jack Falstaff, and therefore more valiant being, as his is, old Jack Falstaff, banish not him thy Harry’s company, banish not him thy Harry’s company. Banish plump Jack, and banish all the world!
