Net Neutrality is the essential tool to obtain a Democratic Senate voting Democratic values. Without that, I think we get such a Senate shortly after the Arctic icecap finishes melting.

Hell yeah, I agree. Didn’t I say, keep on pressuring him? Damned straight. But now that he’s come around, why are you so negative on him? I mean, Schumer’s no better or worse than most Dems. He doesn’t go around blaming his own party for all that’s wrong in the world, like Lieberman does. He doesn’t kiss up to Bush like Lieberman does. He *does* kiss up to the moneymen, like unfortunately an awful lot of Dems do, including my own House member, Steny Hoyer.

Yeah, we want to put pressure on them, and thereby change them. We agree. It’s your evaluation of Schumer that I’m questioning. How many Senators or other major party figures have come out and said Lieberman should drop out of the race? Kerry, Edwards, who else? It’s a damned thin list.

Schumer’s not the next Lieberman, unless we have a party full of them. If Schumer’s the next to go, I can list 30 Dem Senators who ought to go right with him, and at that point, you’re making all the wingnuttery about purges sound plausible.

But Lieberman really was and is bad in ways that are very distinct from any *elected* Dem right now. (OTOH, certain unelected Dems, such as Wittman, Klein, the whole DLC crew, most of the TNR bunch, etc. are in the same boat: kiss the GOP, kick their ‘own’ party, and be clueless on how bad Iraq really is.) Comparing Schumer with Lieberman just because Schumer’s not ready to push Lieberman off the pier is a terrible comparison.

And yeah, Schumer fighting for net neutrality is a hell of a lot more important than Schumer pushing Lieberman off the pier. Winning on Lieberman is like being given a fish; winning on net neutrality is like having a fishing rod and knowing how to use it.
