not sure what i said that upset everyone. can’t find the post, and i don’t remember. i apologize. as i am jewish, not practicing, i know i had no sort of anti sementic intent. i don’t like lieberman. i think israel overreacted to lebanon. i have a twisted sense of humor.
some might say natural born killers was a twisted film. however, i remember having several conversations where i defended the movie and that it should not be censored in anyway.
if you look at the comments made after my deleted post, there were some fairly judgemental calls made.
i am not sure what comments i am defending myself from, but i do sincerely apologize if i hurt anyones feelings.

I have valued your contributions here, so I hope you can step back for a second and try to listen impersonally to what Jane is saying. Seems to me that Jane’s purpose in maintaining this site is to effect political change in our country. Her life background is the business side of showbiz – so she has used her unique gifts and experience to create a crowd-pleasing site, thus enhancing the power and reach of FDL in the service of our mutual political objectives. With her eye always on the main prize, she has to constantly navigate the rapids in maintaining and growing FDL’s audience. If the “regular” commenters are too preachy or bland, that turns the audience off. If comments get too nasty, that’s another turnoff. If racist/ sexist/ homophobic/ whatever comments are tolerated without challenge, that opens FDL to attack from its political enemies, and also turns the audience off. That is a very fine line to have to tread day in and day out with hundreds of autonomous commenters.

I, too, have had my feelings hurt by what I perceived as smackdowns from Jane Hamsher (your smackdown does take the cake, I won’t minimize that). In hindsight I can see that I attach much more weight to the chief enchilada’s good opinion than I would to any Tom, Dick or Harry commenter. Part of FDL’s success is that it has attracted such a congenial and thoughtful commentariat. But in the end, FDL is a political tool, not an ice cream social. I am willing to put up with the occasional jerk on the reins if that’s what it takes to best advance our political objectives. It’s not about you, its about the health and vitality of FDL.

That’s just my $0.02; the opinions expressed herein are not necessarily those of management. If I were Jane, in fact, I would smack me upside the head for presuming to interpret her when she has already expressed herself. Hopefully, she won’t see it on a dead thread, but I will duck just in case. Hope you come back to the threads, lotus blossom.
