Just disgusting. Shameless. Right before the 1 year anniversery they find a guy that loves them and tell him to drive up and the president meets with him. Unreal. God I wish America was paying attention like these blogs and a couple shows on Comedy Central.

Thanks for a great diary. I’m going to send this link to the writer at the WaPo to come over here and read the other side of Katrina and her devistation.

Thanks so much!

Eli @ 87
My hope is that people will start to remember what American values are *supposed* to be, and recognize that the Republicans’ means and ends are the exact opposite.

Of course, it’d be nice if the Democratic candidates helped jog their memories a bit…

AMEN

Evil Parallel Universe @ 154

Hugh - Not that there aren’t other parts to the Doctrine,

I’m reading Overthrow by Stephen Kinzer right now, and it seems to me that whenever the word “doctrine” is used, it means that someone is going to get screwed by the US.

Al-Scooter at 162 and 170, thanks for the reminder about the Lobby

Hugh - I don’t doubt that you can apply the Powell Doctrine and pick out successful wars where its criteria have been met.

And that you can also find unsuccessful wars where, at least in the end, it’s criteria have not been met. But at least in American history, is there an example of an unsuccessful war that meets its criteria? I doubt it b/c two of the prongs, at least to me, depend on being victorious - public opinion and exit strategy (unless crying uncle is considered an exit strategy) - and that can only be known after the war is fought.

[…] Rockey Vaccarella is just like Cindy Sheehan, only…. he made reservations for dinner, right? Is that what they’re asking us to swallow?

Jacqrat @ 219

Hey Kurt - what are the URL’s for those cached sites? I’m getting nothing but his blog on NOLA.com and myspace…

Kurt @
217

Hmm also inneresting, I’ve been googling our buddy Rockey to see what “food chain” he worked for before Katrina, and a lot of the links I’m clicking on have been scrubbed of any refence of him. (The cached versions of the same links have info on him still).

Curiouser and curiouser.

Here’s the page I still had open…

scrubbed page

There are hundreds of links on Google though, just make sure you spell his name correctly:

Late, perhaps EPU’ed. Like Pam mentioned up thread, I also remain somewhat numb from the Katrina experience. Our sanity is intact for we were able to cork our own bottle after that week. I don’t think I have ever witnessed such a perfect reason to be a single issue voter than Katrina. I thought every scared soccer Mom would have turned on this and never looked back. Snakes on a MF’in Plane appear to have more impact than Katrina. Katrina represents the failings of the entire Republican party imo. Who stands up today in dismay over their readiness or response? Any human being who remains in the republican party, much less runs for office in it, should have the full weight of defending this administration and its abominable response to Katrina. What the hell are these constituents or candidates trying to live up to? If you are voting Republican you approve of the administrations response to Katrina.
