meta @ 90:

Hullo there! Sorry it took so long for me to swing back around to this thread…

Honestly, my sense on the ground in CT is that Lamont can win. We still have a fight in front of us, but from what I’ve seen, lots of Lieberman voters are ripe for being flipped. And the biggest reason I’m hearing isn’t the war (though that’s big too); the biggest gripe is that the locals haven’t seen Joe Lieberman around these parts in more than a decade. People feel abandoned. I’ve talked to many community activists, nice people serving on town councils and old money types in Greenwich, who have invited Lieberman to make a local appearance, year after year, without getting a response. People round here compare Lieberman’s aloofness to previous senators who would personally get involved in helping out the locals using the power of his office. Even his loyal supporters are rubbed the wrong way by that kind of behavior.

Nevertheless, lots of “land of steady habits” types remain a tad bit nervous about putting their faith in this new kid, Lamont. So they need to get to know and like Ned over the next month or so. Then they’ll be ready to make the switch.

Peace.

Weeder–Yeah, isn’t that great news? I adopted my nym to protest Bushco’s unAmerican activities. Maybe now I ought to change it to “In Need of Surveillance in Buscho’s View or Not, Warrantless Spying on American Citizens is Unconstitutional.” What do you think? Maybe a little wordy? ;))

mui: You see Clinton as a big sinkhole, but Lieberman’s numbers improved after Bill stumped for him. We can not let our personal feelings blind us to the reality if we want to win. At least too much.
