Holy Joe has brought in veteran GOP operative Dan Senor in order to try and pump up his numbers regarding his awful war by dragging in veterans to swiftboat Lamont. Never mind the fact that Lamont beat Lieberman amongst veterans in the primary (it seems those whom Joe has dispatched to risk their lives in his catastrophic war don’t think it’s quite worth it simply because Sore Loserman can’t admit he was wrong wrong wrong). Holy Joe, however, doesn’t want to get his white-gloved hands any dirtier with this business than he does with, say, actually fighting his own war:
The ad featured a photo of soldier Josh Clark, 24, of Willimantic, who was wounded in 2003 in Iraq, along with a quote attributed to Clark: "Senator Lieberman stood with me and my fellow veterans, and I am proud to stand by him."
The paid message was placed by the Virginia-based Vets for Freedom Action Fund, established last month under Section 527 of the federal tax code as a nonpartisan organization "to communicate with the public on veterans’ issues and the war in Iraq."
The group has high-level Republican connections. It has used a public relations firm that includes Taylor Gross, a former White House official, and receives volunteer advice from GOP strategist Dan Senor.
But its executive director, Iraq war veteran Wade Zirkle, said its members are both Democrat and Republican and its main issue is whether someone is "simply pro-mission or anti-mission," referring to the U.S. mission in Iraq.
The ad surfaced on a day when White House spokesman Tony Snow would not commit himself on whether Republican President Bush would support Alan Schlesinger, Connecticut’s Republican nominee, in the three-way race with Democrat Lamont and independent candidate Lieberman.
"The president supports the democratic process in the state of Connecticut and wishes them a successful election in November," Snow said. He was asked if Bush was holding back because he likes Lieberman or because Schlesinger is far behind in polls. "There may be a whole host of reasons …," he began, adding: "I think that there are some peculiar characteristics going on in the Republican Party with the Republican candidate, and why don’t you wait and see what happens?"
Snow’s comments followed Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman’s refusal, on Sunday’s NBC-TV news program "Meet the Press," to say if he supports Schlesinger. Mehlman said he consults "our leadership in the states – and what my leadership in the state has said to me is: `You ought to stay out of this one.’" So, he said, he is focusing on U.S. House races and the governor’s race in Connecticut.
As Taylor says, this raises some interesting questions:
Funny how Dan Senor’s group is listed as a 527, but is doing highly partisan work. Does anyone actually believe that by siding with Lieberman against Ned Lamont the Swiftboaters for Freedom are being non-partisan? It’s especially interesting given information I was handed this morning. Senor’s group didn’t even file their papers until the very end of July, wherein they signed on as a 527, which is not supposed to use any funds to directly defeat a candidate. Yeah, right.
Last week Holy Joe was all but parading around in a Donkey suit to prove what a devoted Democrat he was. This week he’s all about reach-arounds from the GOP (I think the word they’re using is "bipartisanship.") But bipartisanship seems to be synonimous with Republican worship as far as Loserman is concerned, because there doesn’t seem to be any love for Bernie Sanders, whom Joe’s campaign is currently painting as a Commie Bastard in a curious bit of atavistic red-baiting.
I’m glad Bubba put his foot down over this, but really, it should only be the beginning. Loserman has shown himself willing to divide the party based anything that suits his purposes, and his new GOP paramours are more than willing to use his callow, bruised ego in their service. As Christy and Bob Geiger noted this morning, the DSCC’s Mark Pryor needs to have his chain yanked HARD for giving cover to this nonsense. You can join with Kossaks in raising an appropriate stink here.

The most suspicious thing I noticed about this group when I was doing searches was that they used all of those cute little propaganda words that BushCo likes to use. Like “islamofascism.”
It also appeared that all of the cofounders of the group were legitimate veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan, and not the usual GOP draftdodgers. Most (if not all) had suffered some pretty serious wounds from the fighting. So if you are going to go after them publically, keep that in mind. (In other words, use tact hehe)

OT, sorry, not sure where to put this…
I ran across an article in Monday’s LA Times about some local activists suing the Port of Los Angeles over a “bait and switch” deal that took an approved terminal for energy use and instead made it a commerical container terminal for Maersk.
What’s interesting is this:
Huh. In a federal court. For “false claims”. Damn. Can people DO that? Makes a person think, doesn’t it…
How many lower teeth does that warmongering son of a bitch have?

FWIW, my founding co-blogger has a slightly different angle (and more importantly, a nicely done Photoshopped image to accompany it) regarding Lieberman’s role in the general election.
(Yes, this is a hint for folks to
stealborrow the image.)And I am sure Noron will announce, whenever she does a Sen-CT story, that she is married to a Lieberman advisor!
Jane, they’re desperate — joe represents the heart of the working alliance between jesus freaks & zionists — his sanctimoniousness particularly suits him to play that role & he’ll be hard to replace
anybody who thinks jesus freaks & zionists will forever sleep together will have a rude awakening — it’s tough keeping score as each group manipulates the other: israel went into lebanon partly because our chief jesus freak looked upon it as a dry run for attacking iran, something that israel wants america to do even as our troops stationed in iraq are sitting ducks for shiite reprisal — whichever group comes out worse than the other will break up the marriage out of spite
only then will america have a shot at setting its own foreign policy
I saw Schlesinger on Hardball. He’s a right wing wacko but his gambling “problems” are that he’s been kicked out of a few casinos for counting cards playing black jack? LOL There’s nothing illegal about that.
“The group is attractive to Republicans ‘who want to help Lieberman but [are] not going to start writing checks to his campaign because he’s still a Democrat,’ says a senior Republican affiliated with the group who asked not to be identified while the group is launching.”
I’m a little confused here. Who on the administrations side of the aisle is bipartisan. Does any Repug Congressman have even a 20% voting record for the always “losing Democratic” side?
I say “losing Democratic” side because there might be a handful of Repugs, and definately not the administration advisers, who might support Democratic legislation.
Bipartisanship is great when it applies to both sides. Please tell me the names of some Repug bipartisans?
Liebermans bipartisanship is not the problem. The problem is that it’s hard to tell where Loserman’s head ends and King George’s butt starts on the most important issue today- the Iraqi misadventure
Twolf1: right, love that “still a Democrat…”
Senor is married to Campbell Brown, not Noron.
What happened to Max Cleland and the Band of Brothers? Is Cleland still with JL? And just how does that square with his BofB team, who are generally not with Bush/Lieberman?

The best thing to use is the actual record of the GOP with regard to supporting the troops. Which is a record of neglect and callousness (and of course, lying).
A small sample in a Kos diary regarding WV-02.
How can Lieberman claim that he wants to bring people together when he’s willingly tearing his “party” apart and allowing the Republicans to use this to engage in “polarizing, partisan, politics?” What a sad man he has become.
I called Pryor’s office today and told the staffer that this position certainly made me wonder if Pryor planned on honoring the Democratic primary voters of Arkansas. I think it’s a fair question.
Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, said she fully supports Lieberman, ranking Democrat on the committee, who’s running as an independent after losing the Democratic primary to political newcomer Ned Lamont.

It was pointed out yesterday, of course, but it is amusing to see a successful entrepreneur smeared as a “Communist.” Stupid people really shouldn’t be allowed in our ironic postmodern world.
I could be all wrong about this, but it just feels like for all the crap that’s being thrown at Ned Lamont, those throwing it are getting more of it on themselves than is sticking to Ned.
And whether it is Joe himself, throwing out standard GOP talking points on terror, or dismissing Sharpton and Jackson and Waters, or trying to slam Ned by slamming Bernie Sanders – or Joe’s paid campaign staff doing the dirty work for him, is there anyone in CT who doesn’t see that this is the worst kind of partisan politics?
Meanwhile, what is Ned doing? He’s not slamming Joe – he’s just making mincemeat out of Joe’s positions. He’s going on the Sunday talk shows and handling himself like the good guy he is. He’s talking issues, being responsive to voters, because he gets that that is what the voters want and need – and because Joe’s listening skills are terribly deteriorated, he not only is not listening to the voters NOW, but still does not understnad that if he had only listened to them and responded to them over the last 6 years (or more), he would not be having this fight.
There are none so blind as those who do not see, none so deaf as those who do not hear.
How can he Lieberman use money that was donated to him when he was (reputedly) a democrat to fund a campaign under the (very small) umbrella of another party? Do the donations do to him personally and he can do what he likes, irrespective of the intentions of the donors? Was he not accepting donations under false pretenses?

My bad! Thanks for the correction, gah . . .
My feeling about Joe Lieberman is that he is being pussywhipped by his wife Hadassah. He seems such a jovial fellow, couldn’t hurt anybody even if he wanted to. So he preaches his bipartisanship to appease both parties, but when push comes to shove, Hadassah sets him “straight”, and straight means full support for the Iraq war. Somehow, he alwasy appears to be pained by what he says and stands for. So in order to beat him, one has to beat Hadassah. I think she would manipulate him even on his last breath.
You are evil doctor. I guess we can safely start calling him George Allen (R)acist.

In other words: n 1 = 0n? This guy makes my soul bleed.
This guys blog has quite a little study going on the fine Senator (R-acist)
George Allen’s ugly history on racial issues
I’ve done some additional digging, and it turns out that George Allen, the Virginia senator who is being touted as the GOP presidential frontrunner for 2008, has more ugly racial history than I first thought.
First, there’s the noose he hung from a tree in his law office, which suggests an approving attitude toward lynchings. In 2000, Allen and his Senate campaign manager disavowed any racial connotation, describing the noose as part of a collection of Western memorabilia that represented his law-and-order stance on criminal justice. Then, in February of this year, he tried to claim that it was “more of a lasso” and “has nothing to do with lynching.”
Lot more at the link…

Bingo, siun. Joe Lieberman, (R-Hypocrisy)…just like newt.
I wonder how the good people of CT are holding out, being as they are at ground zero of a titanic struggle of ideology.
When referring to Liebeman Tweety Matthews said “I see dead people. That‘s Joe Lieberman pretending he‘s still running for the Senate. He already lost.
Could it be that Matthews actually has it right, for once?
siun – I have always gotten that vibe from Joe, and have never felt he could be trusted.
Great. I’m sure Senor will have the same success rehabing Liebermann that he did in Baghdad marshalling hordes of happy Iraqis in the streets to welcome US soldiers. Whoops. That didn’t work out too well.
Someone should remind Senor that you can’t polish shit.
Dan Senor was the main flack for the hugely successful Bremer CPA government in Baghdad. Frankly, I think he should be held accountable for his pumping that fiasco.
So far, little has been made of the CPA’s actual function as a Young Republican job program — some came out on Ledeen’s less than qualified daughter handling millions but she & others did write some about their frathouse high jinx in the Green Zone.
I know in American history sense it’s eons ago but I think it’s a rich vein we should mine as it’s so characteristic of the corruption, the political expediency uber alles, the patronage, the disconnect from reality — sending well-connected kids off to rake in good money, disburse even more money to cronies and direct a 21st Century colonial adventure in a land most of them couldn’t have found on a map if it was painted hot pink.
And Senor was the one who covered up all this mess, with the complicity of the media who were so taken with visions of imperial grandeur. Time for some accountability.
This from HuffPo and DKos:
Mark Pryor (DINO-Ark) is supporting Lieberman – one of only three Dem Senators I am aware of, and yet is vice chair of the DSCC. How can an official of the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee support a candidate who is not a Democrat against the winner of the Dem primary?
Time to write and/or call him, and Schumer, and tell them that either Pryor gets with the program and supports Democrats or resigns from the DSCC. He can’t have it both ways
Now, is that karma or what. Two similar comments at the same time. Is this the internet equivalent of mutual orgasm?

siun @ 63
One does not preclude the other. Lieberman certainly is a thug, but a spineless thug. You can beat up on him as long as you want – you won’t get to the root cause of the evil. Because he has no principles, he can be used in any way, shape or form. His lack of principles was so obvious during his debate with Dick Cheney. If you would replace Hadassah with a “Jane Hamsher”, he would start babbling progressive points.
Have folks checked Bob Geiger’s update today of who is for Lamont:

Does anyone know if Lieberman will debate Lamont before the general election?

Yet Mr. Lamont’s staffing needs are also one of several signs that his rookie bid for statewide election is still evolving: He lacks such basic political tools as an opposition research effort to ferret out the sources of Mr. Lieberman’s campaign contributions and other tidbits that might embarrass the senator.
CACKLE!
we will find and remind voters of when he turned on the electric light switch at 11:37pm Friday night back in 1973 !

Do not ferret my friends, resources will become available.
The Neocon ideology seems to be based on pre-emption, unilateralism (save for the rag-tag coalition of the coerced) and armed conflict. The only other option, in their worldview, is appeasement and surrender.
It is purely a theoretical ideology as the Chickenhawks-In Charge have no clue in application of such policies. Witness Iraq.
Fight or surrender is their motto. It doesn’t matter who you fight or how many civilians you kill, as long as you fight. For every mortally wounded child, the hate builds exponentially for our country which recruits masses to the banner of “the evildoers.”
Our recruitment levels for military service continue to dwindle. Who is winning the GWOT? A terrorist straps a bomb to his chest and blows up a pizzaria because he doesn’t have an F-16. This policy of incensing a continent, coupled with sending vast fortunes over there to fuel our addiction is truly horrific.
Fight or surrender. I would imagine there is a third way. Diplomacy. Punish those who truly attacked us, but do the gritty, mind numbing work of working on differences so people can live in peace. It is not sexy. It is not macho, and it is very difficult to do.
America needs to decide what kind of country she wants to be, a brutal tyrant constantly under attack and attacking or the shining light on the hill.
Sorry folks. I got started and couldn’t shut it off. Y’know?
e>JWR @ 73
What’s disturbing in that article is that Lieberman has at least one professional lobbyists working the Dems to just not go campaign against him. At the same time we are begging them to get behind the people’s choice.

http://www.mydd.com/story/2006/8/15/16143/5096
very much worth a read …
UptownNYChick at 7:58 pm – What’s disturbing to me is that if Joe wins as an “independent Democrat” (whatever the hell that is), and retains his seniority, he’s slated to take over chairmanship of “the panel primarily responsible for investigating the executive branch.” This is unnaceptable.
Late-Nite’s up.
JWR-
I think you maybe onto something there. Certainly, Rove, Mehlman, Bush, et al., are supporting Lieberman because he is a useful tool.
But the Rove phone calls make EVEN MORE sense if Rove is preparing for the possibility of a Democratic takeover in the Senate and wants to make sure that he has his tongue in the ear of the committee chair.
Is he still caucusing with the Democratic party? I totally do not get how he can be a member of two parties – if you cross the floor, you cross he floor, dammit.
w0551 at 8:16 pm – Exactly. Joe absolutely must retain both his “Democrat” label as well as his committee assignments to be of any use to Rove, et al.

Leisler NYC @

Plus, according to Wikipedia:
One of our big problems with Lieberman hasn’t so much been that he supports the war in Iraq, but that he promotes a rosy view of the situation there that is completely disconnected from reality.
And here he is, signing up a guy who’s been one of the main purveyors of that surrealistically rosy view, whose office was responsible for press releases like Optimists Club Organizes Baghdad Chapter, Unveiled: The New Logo of the Iraqi Olympic Team, and Iraqi Olympic Hopefuls Arrive in Colorado to Start Training, as Iraq was going up in flames in early April 2004.
That Lieberman would sign up a guy like this to help with his campaign speaks volumes about where Joe’s head is.
I called Sen. Pryor’s office and got some business about Loserman being his friend and mentor to which I said fine, have dinner with the guy, but support the Democratic primary winner. They wouldn’t talk to me about his role in the DSCC.
I called the DSCC and was assured that ALL money raised would go only to Democratic candidates (including my own Sen. Menendez), and NONE to Loserman. He said Pryor’s ewndorsement was a “private” one (huh?); I encouraged them to plesae consider asking Se. Pryor to leave the DSCC.
Although I’m a member of the party, I’m no big-money donor, but the guy I spoke with seemed very nervous about my stated concern on where the money donated to them would go. All that to say, Keep Calling! If they think it will cost them money, they’ll embrace Lamont ebven more loudly and publicly.
Jane,
I just gave another $50.00 to Ned, as well as first time $50 donations, to Amy Klobuchar, Tester, Rowley, Mejias and because of today’s story on this blog, another 50.00 to Sherrod Brown. I’m still sore about Hackett, but what the heck–Ohio is after all a potential pickup. So, I’m clearly no fan of Lieberman or any Repug when I ask that we be more precise. You mentioned Lamont’s lead amongst Veterans but left out that Joe carried active duty troops. Unlike the Repugs (and their boy, Lieberman), we can’t afford to in anyway give our folks who battle wingnuts, any incorrect impressions. Having the impression of something that later turns out to be different than we think, can undermine those of us who do battle elsewhere (i.e. Yahoo and other spots where Wingnuts and Joe apologists appear on the net). We can’t afford to be blind sided! The portion of your link that I’d point out that needs clarification:
“Given the the intense focus on the Iraq war in this race, it is interesting to note that there was a divergence in how voters connected to the military voted. Areas of high concentrations of voters currently serving in the armed forces were more likely to support Lieberman, but areas with high concentrations of veterans were more likely to support Lamont.”
Yes, Lamont carried Veterans–but those who serve now (and I don’t think this counts those in Iraq Now), went for HoJo. I do believe this difference reflects those who served early in the conflict (i.e. the new slime boat vet types) and not those who see the totally unnecessary current disaster.
If I knew this difference, I’d be in a better position to debate those who still support Joe–or the Repugs who are supporting Joe for their own reasons.

IndiePix announces distribution deal with BeBe Films
for the re-release of this title on September 1, 2006
Marketing campaign will direct consumers to the Indiepix.net
download site to purchase title for $4.95 per copy
0 0 0
NEW YORK, July 27, 2006–Indiepix.net today announced that BeBe Films, Inc. and IndiePix.net have concluded a non-exclusive distribution agreement for the re-release of this film using IndiePix’s patent-pending “Download-to-Own” electronic distribution technology.
“Bush’s Brain” is based on the book of the same name by James C. Moore and Wayne Slater. Published by John Wiley & Son in early 2003, the book was made into a documentary film that premiered at the South-by-Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Texas in March of 2003. It was released theatrically on August 27, 2004 and later to the DVD market on October 12, 2004.
The re-release of this title will feature a blog-marketing campaign that already has the commitment of blogs accounting for about 2 million page views per week. (With the industry average 1.2 page views per visit, that amounts to over 1.6mm visits per week.) The blog marketing campaign is still being organized, and the parties expect that additional blogs representing at least another 1.0mm page views per week will be added to this list. The blog campaign will run for 8 weeks.
In addition to the blog campaign, several dozen Radio, TV and print interviews with the filmmakers about this film are expected.
IndiePix will provide download services include web-site listing, credit card processing, electronic delivery, and project accounting. The download will be managed on the client side by the IndiePix Disc Factory, available as a Windows XP or Mac OS-X client as appropriate.
Scott Abramowitz commented that: “the release of the OS-X version of the IndiePix Disc Factory will be a watershed event in the development of download technology – making DVD quality downloads available to the Mac community for the first time.”
The file to be delivered will be watermarked using the PixelTools “MPEG-Escort” technology recently licensed by IndiePix and included in the IndiePix Disc Factory. Licensing will be at the “forensic level” which specifically identifies every download with the information identifying the download transaction. A “slate” at the beginning of the film will replace with usual “FBI Warning” with a “Thank you for supporting Independent Film” and a notice that the content is protected by the PixelTools MPEG-Escort.
Joe Mealey, co-producer of the film noted that: “each customer who purchases the title will be encouraged to make a few copies and give them to his or her friends.” This will acknowledge that the disc can be copied and that “fair use” copying is specifically supported by this download technology. Bob Alexander, President of IndiePix, said: “we believe that our customer is not a criminal, and that the best approach to protecting the copyrighted content we want to distribute is to reinforce the social contract between the customer and the filmmaker. This initiative does that.”
In emphasizing the ground-breaking nature of this announcement, Alexander said: “This is not an off-television product resized for display on a thumbnail! This is a full featured, menu driven, DVD movie designed for presentation on the finest home theater systems! It has great festival credentials. And it’s got an attention grabbing theme. Releasing this film through our ‘Download-to-Own’ technology – at this price point — helps overcome the distribution barriers that may have prevented people from owning and seeing this title in the past.”
Just when you thought it’s all been said about Mr. Bush, along comes Bush’s Brain, a strikingly honest and deeply informative documentary which chronicles the history of the most powerful political figure America had never heard of… until now. Currently, he is the center of the CIA leak scandal. Now everyone can’t stop talking about Karl Rove.
Bush’s Brain serves as a guided tour through the one of the most dramatic political partnerships in American history — between George W. Bush and his nefarious Access-of-evil Senior Advisor, Karl Rove.
Bush’s Brain tells how a nerdy political consultant with an acid tongue, a zealot’s conviction and a long memory for enemies and slights who played dirty ever since his years in the College Republicans during the 1970s is running (ruining) our country. Rove’s masterful manipulation not only succeeded in winning Bush a second term, but helped secure Bush the honor of Time magazine’s 2004 “Person of the Year.” Feared and admired by Republicans and Democrats alike, Rove has raised a new and disturbing question for America: Who really runs the country?

This new technology helps achieve that objective in ways that benefit consumers, benefit filmmakers, and grow the audience for indie films.”
