Well, this is some interesting stuff: (from the Waturbury, CT, Republican-American newspaper)
Under a formula, the donations can increase up to six times the limit, after certain threshold levels are exceeded by the wealthier candidate. In a little over two weeks, Lieberman managed to raise what the average incumbent senator collected in a year and a half during the 2004 election cycle, the Washington-based research group, the Center for Responsive Politics, said.
Lieberman’s list is nearly 200 handwritten pages long, containing the names of more than 700 individuals and Political Action Committees, representing business and special interest groups. The contributions total six figures on some days. The filings contain many well-known individual donors, including Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, former New York City mayor Ed Koch and executives at major companies, among them Hartford-based United Technologies Corp.
The PACs that gave to Lieberman include the Chicago Board of Trade, Tyco International, Verizon Communications, AT&T, Bank of America, Microsoft and Eastman Kodak. Lieberman’s PAC money for the two and a half weeks totaled more than $220,000. Lamont’s list is shorter — each report contains only a few names and donations that seldom break the $10,000 mark on a given day….
Only about 15 percent of Lieberman’s contributions of $1,000 or more came from Connecticut donors, while almost half of Lamont’s big givers lived within the state….
Not one more word…not one…about how all of Lamont’s support came from out-of-state meanie bloggers. Not one. Joe Lieberman took full advantage of the incumbent protection racket financing provisions that the Congress passed for itself, and raked in some serious buckage as he neared the end of the Democratic Primary.
But I’d love to see a lot more ink on who all of those last-minute big money donors were to the Lieberman campaign. And why. Wouldn’t you?
I think it’s time to shine some light under a whole lot of big ole’ rocks.
(And in case you missed it yesterday, Crooks and Liars has video up of Howard Dean’s appearance on Meet the Press. It’s quite well done, he says clearly that he supports the Democratic candidate, Ned Lamont — unlike Mehlman who can’t say outright that he supports the Republican, so I smell another candidate lurking in the background there. Every day Joe Lieberman stays in this race is another day that takes away from Democratic strength in the general election for the Senate and for a number of House races in Connecticut. Dean makes it quite clear that Lieberman has to go. Period. End of story. It’s a refreshing moment of candor in political teevee, and well worth a watch.)

Christy, didn’t Stoller and the MyDD crew do a whole analysis of Joe’s late donors? I know you’re looking for establishment media discussion of all this, but there might be some good stuff to begin with at MyDD. I’ll see if I can find it, but if anyone else has it handy, please share. . .
If this country ever expects to get back to what the founders had in mind when they wrote the constitution, we need two things.
Publicly funded elections, no outside soft money.
End all corporate lobbying, this country was set up for “We the People”, not corporations, who are not even mentioned in the Constitution, theirfore they have no right to petition the government.
That’s the kind of thing that needs to be prime-timed in the M$M. Sadly, it won’t.
But I’d love to see a lot more ink on who all of those last-minute big money donors were to the Lieberman campaign. And why. Wouldn’t you?
Sure, but I am not holding my breath. The corporate ownership of press/media will not promote discussion or increase awareness of the corporate ownership of the congress. It’s like expecting GE-owned NBC News to do a story on corruption and fraud in defense contracting.
I don’t really expect the Lamont campaign to put this stuff out there either. They have to focus on talking about Lamont. But a local Connecticutt group ought to take out ads in every local newspaper that simply lists the donors, amounts, date of donation and location of donor. Ask the question: why are all these corporations so desperate to keep Joe Lieberman in office? The question will answer itself.
G’morning, OT, but here is a hypocricy alert – Bushco trying to cut funding on explosive detection technology development, and der Department of Homeland Security failing to get explosive detectors into foreign airports, a very cheap proposition. Gee whiz, it’s as if the current administration is doing everything possible not to stop another terrorist attack. Hmmmm…
Colbert said voters were just another special interest group — sorta like Big Oil versus Big Votes
What the hell does this mean?
Wealthier candidate? They talking about personal balance sheets or campaign balance sheets?
opensecrets has reports through July 16th.
Good Morning CHS. Always fascinating to see where the money is coming from. I wish someone would mention that a truck driver from Oklahoma cared enough about his country to send a hundred dollars to a multi-millionaire.
Joe should go, and I think he will. His outrageous comments will merely make Lamont voters more resolute and diminish his own support. He whines because someone just dropped a house on his sister, and the primary threw a bucket of water on him. He is melting…melting…you cursed little wretch, and yer little firedogs too.

a hilarious comment about airport foolishness by progressive liberalality at kos.
It’s a color coded chart for security level:
red is Elmo
orange is Ernie
yellow is Bert
blue is Cookie Monster
green is Oscar
Here is the Federal Elections Commission index page to all the required campaign finance reports Joe has filed …
Another good reason why the MSM media constantly harps against the blogosphere was addressed in my most recent post:
For the rest, just click on my name. Sorry about the shameless blogwhoring, but as you say, follow the money.
If Connecticut had Diebold voting machines, Lieberman would have won the primary.
unlike Mehlman who can’t say outright that he supports the Republican, so I smell another candidate lurking in the background there.
… and I keep thinking that candidate is going to be Joe Lieberman.
Have you ever noticed how the first three letters of Holy Joe’s last name are L-I-E?
Christy,
If you are going to go down this road (I hope you do but it’s a lot of work and research) you want to not only look at who the donors are, but who else those big donors gave to.
for example, IIRC, if you look at the amount the Chicago Board of trade gave to Joe and then looked at CBT’s overall giving patterns, I think you will find some pretty shady characters (unless I am confusing them w/some other group–after my Teapot dome misadventure, I am wary of relying on memory).
This kind of reverse donor research is often done by campaigns and (in the good old days) by reporters. Once in a very blue moon, it is done by public corruption investigatrs and prosecutors looking for spiderweb networks of improper influence.
Also, when doing said research, look for contributions clustered around a single day. That usually signals a fundraiser, at which point you can start making some inferences about who eats weenies with who in the same venue.
It’s a really easy way to make some preliminary guesses about who is buddies with who, or who has at least met who.
Who was it talking about how good ‘twould be if we could track down evidence of JIL’s in-cahoots-with-Big-Pharma-on-curbing-autism-research to show to Imus (one of whose special foci it is)?
[Betcha didn’t think you’d live to see me land that Russian-nesting-doll of a sentence, didja? Haw!]
So, the answer to the question, “Who supports Joe Lieberman?” can pretty much be answered with the response, “The Fortune 500.”
It would be great for Ned to have an ad that featured a diverse (in all meanings of the word) group of Connecticut residents talking about why they gave to the campaign. It could also feature Ned himself, who has made the largest contribution, and who has shunned donations from special interests.
The profile of the Lieberman donor is one that defines special interests – and I think most voters are sick of feeling like they take a back seat to those interests over and over again.
pol @ 21
I think there is a lot of backchannel negotiation going on right now between Joe and the Reps. It is not unusual (at least in NYS–Al D’Amato does this all all the time) for Reps to offer the line to strong but frustrated Dem challenger.
But like all deals with the devil, the Rep line or Rep offballot support comes at the price of your immortal soul.
OFG @ 19
It’s not blogwhoring if I mention your site, is it? My original comment was EPU’d from the Late Night thread, but I’ll bring it around again . . .

Went and read your post at your site, and loved the thoughts you assembled while “supplying an addicted nation”! A taste, to encourage others to check it out . . .
You may have hit on the best image for the Bush admin: the BP mess in Alaska. Not just the “drip, drip, drip” part, but everything else – most of problem is out of sight, the potential consequences are huge, the unglamourous work of maintenence is neglected for years, and it involved large amounts of $$$ . . .
Good stuff. (And you must have high standards for this place if that post is something you put over at yours!) Keep it coming!
Oh, and how many of the things on your list were enabled by Joe Lieberman’s support for Bush? Grrrr . . .
Yo, *ilson. “www.CT4Joe2006.com — updated !” be lookin’ a leetle whomperjawed just now — mought wanna check on it agin.
Today Is My Birthday

happy Birthday to me :)
Although I KNOW I closed the blockquote. some how my comment wound up inside trhe quote box.
This happened the other night, too.
I suck at technology. Sigh

In statistics it’s called “blockmodelling” – the same thing that SCOTUS watchers do when they try to analyze the patterns around which justices voted with which.
There’s got to be a stats geek around here with some blockmodelling software, and if said number cruncher could get a good data dump instead of having to hand enter the data, it shouldn’t take a huge amount of time.
Data, computers, and people. It’s amazing what you can do with the right raw materials (data), the right tools, and some folks who know how to use them.
happy b’day Knot!
If Reid cut Lieberman off the powerful commitees, the money would stop. Until the Dems cut him loose Ned is nothing.
lhp, when you quote somebody, the quote is totally enclosed with the BLOCKQUOTE tags … you add your words of wisdom after that 2nd (closing) BLOCKQUOTE tag

*ilson, I so know this from experience.
Remember, kids: PREVIEW is your FRIEND!
cutting Joey Two Times off committees wouldnt affect his donations immediately. Donors dont usually directly buy votes, they invest in lawmakers knowing it’ll likely pay off in the future …
… although Huey Long famously said he never bought legislators, he just rented them when he needed them …
HAPPY BIRFDAY, KNOT!!!
Let’s all celebrate Knot at Blue America AND at FDL’S tipjar, how ’bout?

That is exactly what I did. In fact when it happened the other day, some how MY WORDS got moved up into the middle of the quote I was quoting.
It only happens when I use the “quote this comment” feature. If I manually cut and place and put in my bq and /bq, I don’t have a problem.
It doesn’t happen every time either, so I think every so often I must be doing something wrong.
Tech challenged, tech challenged, tech challenged
I downloaded a copy of Matt Stoller’s spreadsheet last week.
Who needs a copy?
Very interesting stuff in it, and most definitely, you need to look at to whom and what these folks also give money. There’s some interesting patterns.
Peterr,
Thanks for the kind words. The ladies of the house have worked very hard to build this sight traffic to what it is today. I never mention my sight unless it is exactly on topic to the current post and can add to the discussion. Many here are curious to the actions of the Corporate Media, and from time to time, I try to shed a little light on the text.

Preview has never loaded for me. When I hit preiew my screen just freezes, so preview has never been friend of mine.
And it shows! *g*
The same thing is happening in Montana. Conrad Burns is saying that John Tester is a tool of outside enviromental groups when, in fact, his support is based on grassroots, Montana donations. For incumbants, that money trail should include a map connecting that money to past voting records and current committee assignments.
Rayne @ 43
RAyne?
Did I remember correctly about the Chicago Board of Trade? I think I need to hit the Chi Trib archives again.
Lieberman’s not going to drop out. He’s too fixated on what he sees as his “divine right”, and the GOP is obviously interested in using Joe to split the Dems nationally.
The Lamont camp needs to keep the ground game running until the general election. Nevermind Schlesinger – he’s DOA, especially since Mehlman just threw him under the bus and blamed it on the state party.
CNN – ariel sharon’s condition has deteriorated — again
*ilson46201 @ 40
I wonder if the human hoover of Dem campaign contributors (aka Hillary) is calling donors and warning them off of donating to Lieberman. The more Joe pisses off the Dem establishment, the more I see this happening. Don’t look for Harry to boot Joe off of commitees.
Peterr @

Christy – OT, but relevant: Yesterday’s NYT had an article
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/08…..ref=slogin
on what we all know. The Brits watched and waited before they pounced on their quarry. US law enforcement, by contrast, has less patience for intelligence gathering, and is more likely to pounce before they have sufficient evidence to make a strong case in court. (My bad. I forgot. Courts… how quaint. How last administration.)
So my question/suggestion for a possible post – When cops and prosecutors go after mobsters, how long do they wait and how much evidence do they gather, before they arrest?
twolf1 @ 49
I so want Arial Sharon to regain consciousness so he can contemplate Israel not winning the war against Hezbollah and also Hamas winning the Palestinian elections …
*ilson46201 @ 53
It doesn’t look good for him. Kagan just said new brain scan shows significantly more deterioration as did a chest scan — which showed a new infection.
looseheadprop @ 45
oh, LHP, that’s dreadful! Well, eventually all the tech will catch up with us — in a good way, I hope!
OT question: will the toobz disappear before the oil? Some dum-dum late-night wondering here, that’s all …
percy at 52 — you know, there isn’t any sort of set time frame on an undercover case. You keep going and don’t make arrests so long as you are continuing to gather useful intel, and you roll everyone up as soon as you think you have a solid case and/or you aren’t getting useful intel and/or you think they may be on to you and you have the potential for losing some defendants if they flee. But the primary concern is always maximizing the benefits of the investigation and any potential arrests for the public good. But really, its a case by case thing. Does that help?
Well, I guess I’ll pack up, go have some breakfast and drive back to the house. Two wasted days.
lhp — yeah, $2000 from CBT on 27-JUL to Joe-moeba.
There are a number of other PAC’s on here.
And there is a strong trend of giving from folks with financial industry background.
Oilfieldguy @ 14
Love this imagery, OFG. JL burns me up.
lhp, if you’ve made a Baby M report lately, I missed it. So would you kindly repeat what’s new with our rockem-sockem fave Lablet?
lhp – I fixed your comment…for some reason, there was no ending blockquote tag where you needed it.
It’s a gamble when preview isn’t functional, and I know that at home, I can preview, but the “edit comment” button doesn’t work for me. My special mod powers will let me edit it from behind the curtain, which is the only thing that saves me sometimes.
Re: Lieberman – it’s time to cut off his little whine about Ned spending his own money, and hit him on the size of his own war chest, and who put the money in it.
I agree that in addition to citing which corporations and PACs gave, we should also cite what other candidates those corporations contributed to. Would be good to cite the nexus between what the interests of contributors are, and what committees Joe sits on.
Kind of a Tinkers-to-Evers-to-Chance triple play (for those who have some baseball knowledge!).

Another handy thingie you can do.. I slapped a bookmark on that post explaining the new system, and it – plus a bunch-a other cheat-sheets – are safely tucked into my little “Blog Help” file I made for myself.

81 must be wearing really thick gloves. I know about this problem.
I think the more likely explanation of Mehlman refusing to endorse Schlesinger is not that the GOP will endorse Lieberman, and but that they will replace Schlesinger with a more viable – and GOP party-line – candidate. If they can field a better candidate, it will bring Republicans out to the polls, which will help in the House races, where the three candidates there are teetering on the edge of defeat.
If they do that, it spells doom for Lieberman – why would Republicans and conservative independents vote for Lieberman when they could vote for an actual Republican?
The only other question is whether such a candidate exists, and is willing to jump in now, and how long the national party is willing to wait before that happens; I’m guessing Labor Day.
But, but, medaka — this “Baby Mittens” juvie gots four feet currently bigger’n she is!
Anne, yes, such a candidate exists. And they can keep J-Lie dangling until late in the campaign before bringing him in. Don’t recall his name but he was a candidate before and he’s said he’s willing to run. Big bucks Rethuglican…a bird of a feather.
If the GOP had a more viable candidate, they’d have made the announcement already. There’s too little time between now and November to draw this out any longer.
scarecrow @ 87
Yeah, I’ve seen that scary number-stuff here before. Prolly Christy’s interweb Security Admin handler…
Anne — I’m just guessing, but I’ve been assuming the Repubs don’t want a viable “Repub” candidate, because they think they’d lose anyway. And they’ve got Joe and don’t want to split the Repub vote.
Tom–wrong. They’ve got a candidate. He’s got name i.d. in CT. And the longer the Rethugs can keep J-Lie’s ego stroked and in the race, the more they see that as a win for them.
lotus @ 89
Too confusing! I of course would consider doing four-foot-talls, but not have-four-feets … guess I need some SPCA sensitivity training?
Ohhh, great new word . . .
Republican’ts –
The Republicants can’t stop terrorism, because they believe helping their cronies loot the government is more important than actually fighting terrorism.
The Republicant Party can’t improve Social Security, because they’ve always hated it and are committed to destroying it. Republicant’s have that Hate Social Security extra chromosome, for some unknown reason.
The Republicant Party won’t help your kids get a good education, because their kids can’t compete in a true Meritocracy.
Look at George Bush — a silver spoon legacy Ivy Leaguer, who can’t string a coherent sentence together without a teleprompter.
No Child Left Behind is designed to destroy public education, so the Bush kids won’t have any competition.
The Republicant Party — you can’t trust them with your money, you can’t trust them with your future, and you definitely can’t trust them with national security.

I think scarecrow has it right at #93 – they know they don’t have a chance anyways, so they’re just using Lieberman and his ego to try and split the anti-war Dems.

lotus – thanks for the pat on the back. Getting into my mom’s house while she was away worked out well. Got a lot done, and hope she won’t freak out when she arrives home today! The challenge for her will be to continue to pack, and still maintain the house is “show” condition. Loss of organizational skills was a fallout from the stroke she had three years ago, and I am really feeling that lack these days!
No response on my long fax to Adult Protective Services that I sent on Friday about the situatuon with my aunt. She is home, and her increasingly paranoid husband tried to listen in on a conversation I had with her on Thursday evening (the shriek of his hearing aid gave him away). He’s reading/screening her mail, too, so I am tempted to make him aware that I know this, and that if he keeps on invading her privacy, he’s not going to like the response.
Only so much I can do at this point, which sucks, but it is what it is.
I just keep putting one foot in front of the other and moving ahead…no other good choices exist.
OT a little, but related(!)
Thanks yet again, Christy, for a fantastic idea, and extremely valuable post! That wonderful mind under all that dynomite red hair is always perking along at light-speed.
Last night, trying to catch up on previous threads & attached comments, I began getting pretty antsy at the growing number of commenters following a certain track I was NOT at ALL comfortable with. (e.g., Sharkbabe’s comments come to mind, if I may say that with all respect, and without igniting a firestorm, but there were others)
I’m worried about any suggestions that bloggers aggressively should seek to change ANYTHING about Ned’s style and delivery. I thought we were trying to help candidates who have “the right stuff,” NOT forcibly mold them in any way.
I bring this up because I thought I saw a growing theme reflecting some commenters’ desire to shove Ned toward more aggressive & “saltier” language, plus [apologies, but, in my view] nastier campaign tactics, etc.
If this impression is correct, I have to say I couldn’t DISAGREE more strongly! Ned is an unbelievably tough and agile campaigner. Every time he opens his mouth, he wins over another huge bunch of fans. And he’s so articulate, savvy, and just-plain-nice(!), he is having tremendous success just being himself.
Please please please do NOT suggest he jump into the gutter. He DOESN’T HAVE TO, and I fear it would destroy his campaign if he did so. Besides, I’m sure he’d resist any efforts of that sort, and making demands like that would only hurt the whole blog effort.
End of sermon. Sorry to interrupt. And don’t bother flaming me for trying to inhibit normal discourse from commenters. That’s not what I meant. The rants, snark, different flavors of language, bird-watching, recipes, (((comforting))), )))shouting((( are all part of this wonderful place at FDL…
Thanks for ‘listening’. I’ll go back to lurking and learning now, and let the rest of you pups have the floor.

Okay, medaka, I’ll drop the cutes and clue you in. Baby Mittens is a month-old (that more-or-less right, y’all?) golden Labrador retriever. We who were here at her birth are all hopelessly in love with her.

Perhaps Lamont should give it to Joe for the good of the party.
Exactly, Tom! Use J-Lie until he’s used up and then put in their own uber-funded, uber-rich candidate.

1,242 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Anne:
Don’t buy “the sky is fallin’” analysis comin’ from mostly traditional (read “corporate”) Democratic and Republicrat sources. This is all about the BASE. Connecticut is a solid Democratic state with a traditional Republican population – not wing-nut. Lamont has energized the base and as long as he holds and builds that base and the folks are not discouraged by all this “doom and gloom” shit…all Lieberman can do is split the Republican vote, his numbers of the Democratic base are gunna be around 20% (look at current polls).
So…as long as Lamont runs an increasingly postitive campaign and keeps the Democrats and anti-Bush independents energized, then JOE LIEBERMAN CAN NOT BEAT HIM!! (Read that last statement again every 5 minutes until you begin to understand it!). This is the Rove-fascist strategy come up on the rock from the hard place…this is a solid Democratic state, the base is energized for Lamont and the independents are all linin’ up behind the anti-Bush candidate. Not only does that do it for Lamont but it pulls all the anti-Bush congressional candidates along too.
Geez LouEEZ folks, this is not complicated…we have 60% of the votin population linin’ up against Bush ,the war and Bush incumbants, don’t think us outta the race, shove it down their throats!!
Repeat this over and over until you understand it…JOE LIEBERMAN IN THE RACE ONLY SOLIDIFIES THE ANTI-BUSH VOTE AND THE DEMOCRATIC BASE! Don’t buy the corporate-DLC talkin’ points that we must try and win over Bush votes in order ta win…Jesus H. CEEErist on a crutch, have we been losin’ so long we’re afraid ta win anymore??!!!
KEEP THE FAITH AND STOP LOOKIN’ FOR A WAY TA LOSE!!!
My preview almost never works – although I have to admit that I usually don’t want to bother to proof anyway (mea culpa). Last night, all of a sudden, my laptop posts were going though – my edit doesn’t work, but quote feature usually does – a mixed bag.
OFG/Peterr – thanks for that – excellent.
AT&T is an interesting contributor too – I’m pretty sure that the kinds of legislation that are pending are such that they would MUCH rather have that safe pro-Crime Lieberman’s vote than worry about Lamont’s.
Is there much sleazy that goes on that doesn’t seem to get Tyco attached to it at some point? Flannigan, with his ties to the OLC torture, kidnap, rendition, etc. authorizations would probably like a nice Lieberman vote on the “War Crimes for the Family” legislation. Sometimes it’s probably comforting to know you company offshores.
Roar, Norske!
Hello, pups,
I’m wondering about the notion of corporations as persons. Did some noodling about in the Wiki about it and it seems possible that their ability to give donations to candidates is not absolute.
I know that an effort to strip them of this ability may be a pipe dream, given the present realities, but would be interested if anyone knows of any efforts along this line are out there?
There just has to be some way to get the quid pro quo out of the financing of elections and legislation. Mandatory public financing of elections may work better although that approach is subject to the same forces against it.
It may well be that the will to power is too strong in all parties, both Dem and Rep, for this hope to be other than a fantasy. I’ve always been a dreamer.

Right, and Republicants doom us to defeat in Iraq because of their violent world view.
In a 7/8/06 Slate article, “Counterinsurgency by the Book,” Fred Kaplan quotes the U.S. Army’s new field manual on counterinsurgency warfare warns that:
This understand-thy-enemy approach stands in stark contrast to the kick-ass, bring-em-on style of our Texan president. Perhaps that contrast is what Karl Rove was trying to express when, at a conservative fund raiser, he said:
;-)
New thread gang.
Corporations as entities can not donate to candidates — they may form PACs that receive donations from their employees and in turn that PAC may donate. No corporate money as such can be donated to candidates!

I think you’re right Otis. The gauntlet has been thrown down. They’ll back Joe and fund him and Rove will do his dirty tricks bit. They will stay behind the scenes as much as possible and force the Democrats to burn up a lot of money and energy helping Lamont. If Joe wins, they’re golden. If he doesn’t, they still might help some of their house members stay in place. Nasty and calculating, just like always. But for them, what’s not to like?
Adie, props. I agree.
Cheney’s the one who said we’ve got to walk on the dark side. I’m with Ned…and Christy and Jane & Co: we’ll put sunshine under the rocks and truth will out.
The Republicants will use J-Lie all the way…or not. Replacement at the last is very likely. In any case, the point is, to the Republicants, J-Lie is disposable goods.

Thanks.
Actually, the bigger problem I’m worried about is FDL’s ability to help OTHER candidates as well as Ned. It would be horrible the group as a whole gloms together & races off in some insane direction that’s hurtful to FDL’s mission, style & high standards.
Let’s just keep up the marvelous community spirit and high ethical standards, & I’ll be happy. If that’s done, FDL CANNOT be beat! It’s a tremendously powerful force for GOOD in the political arena. I don’t want the effort dimmed.
I probably need to calm myself down and not worry so much about that, either. Just so long as everyone keeps eyes wide open and ears attuned to the reasons the effort was launched in the 1st place, FDL will be safe.
I think FDL ‘runs’ much like peer-reviewed scientific research. As such, it’s truly unique, and a beautiful, incredibly powerful beacon of hope for those of us who lurk & blog, as well as for many who don’t even know FDL exists.
Thank you ALL!

Twolf1, thank you for the link. I hate, hate, hate these systems. Because, not only do they supposedly catch terrorists, they catch those of us with panic/anxiety disorders. For example, my mother has been searched every time she flies, every time. She’s 65 and no threat. But…she’s almost as agoraphobic as I am, not quite disabled by it. And groups of people are a major stressor for her. So, of course, she comes across as someone trying to hide something. It just happens that she’s trying to hide herself.
things like this are one of the reasons I haven’t flown since that one trip to New Orleans in 2002.
YEAH Meteorblades linky GOOD!

I hear there is a new thread upstairs.

I couldn’t get my Preview to work either, until someone else pointed out that every time you make a change in the text, you need to click on Preview AGAIN. Otherwise it won’t update the text that’s finally posted when you hit Submit Comment.
I have a nice database program called Sesame (you can buy it at Lantica.com; it runs about $200 for the basic version) that can handle up to a million records (they say: the database I have is only about 30,000), and it’s relatively easy to set up a database. (Sesame is the follow-on to Q&A, which some of you may remember.) It’s possible to use Excel for this sort of thing also, but the practical limit is much smaller.
Adie, a while back you offered some very valuable posting tips for newbies. And here you’ve also shown in your “graceful-handedness” (so right, Lotus) how to disagree without putting someone on the defensive. I haven’t yet read the thread to which you’re referring, but I do strongly agree, no need to become like the Cheneys of this world!
Thanks to Egregious’ fabulous transcribing of Ned’s TV appearance yesterday, it’s clear to me that Ned can knock anyone’s socks off by just being his honorable self.
Gosh, if Dems (not Ned) resorted to Republican’t-style push polling, they’d do one that asked “If you thought Joe Liebeman would switch parties to become a Republican if he wins his senate seat back, would you vote for him?”
Or is there another way to communicate to CT’s blue voters that there is no guarantee that Joe won’t switch?
There is a full page political advert in this morning’s Hartford Courant thanking Joe Lieberman for his support of Iraq War Veterans:
” Iraq and Afghanistan are complicated wars. But you have not let politics influence your position. We are grateful for your integrity, leadership, and unwavering commitment to America’s troops. We are veterans of these wars, and we salute you.”
The veterans have a website:
ww.vetsforfreedom.org and are asking for donations to the cause.
Who are these guys really? I’ve never heard of them before now. And why is their committment to continuing the wars in the Middle East? Most of the returning vets I’ve seen comment on Iraq are not pleased with the Administration’s position and on the revolving door into/out/back into position they find themselves in doing multiple tours in Iraq.
About vetsforfreedom…
From their website:
In other words, they are drinking the koolaid.

The establishment is pushing terror – because they are terrified the people might actually re-take control of their government.
What a concept.
