Bill Richardson just earned the FDL Seal of Approval for having the guts to be the first prominent national Democrat to call on Holy Joe to stop mucking up the party and get out of the race. Okay those are my words not his. But the point remains.
Tell him thanks by giving him your email.
Meanwhile, Josh Marshall becomes the latest convert to the "enough already" camp. I’ll respect the private observations of journalists whose opinion of Joe I saw radically change over the course of covering the campaign, but suffice to say that Josh’s response is in no way unique. He writes:
Here at TPM Media, as many techish companies do, we have a little internal chat system where we discuss editorial business and other topics through the course of the day. And yesterday, after I saw Greg Sargent’s update that Lieberman was going down the ‘A win for Lamont will be a victory for the terrorists’ track, I openned up our chat and wrote something to the effect of, "I’ve always liked Joe, but with this ‘victory for the terrorists’, it’s enough. F–k him."
Justin Rood shot back, you should write that. And he’s right. So here I am.
Readers of this site know I’ve always had a soft spot for Lieberman. I was ambivalent about the primary race, didn’t have a horse in it, I think I said. And it only became a simple matter for me after Lamont won. He’s the Democratic candidate. End of story. Not because I felt differently about Lieberman necessarily. But I think all Democrats, all progressives, liberals, whatever, should support the Democratic candidate. And that’s Ned Lamont. That and tell Lieberman to get out of the race.
But now Lieberman is not only running as the de facto Republican in the race, he’s running as the worst sort of Republican, going on the trail claiming that any serious questioning of our policy in Iraq is a victory for the terrorists, even pulling in yesterday’s terror plot take-down into his angle against Lamont. With Lamont, those guys might have blown up the plane. Leaving Iraq is a win for the terrorists. A Lamont win is a win for the terrorists. That was after Wednesday when Joe pledged to save the Democratic party from the extremists he seems to think make up the entire Democratic party. Except for Joe.
So questioning the president’s policy on Iraq is a win for the terrorists. The Democratic party is outside the mainstream of American politics. I can go to Republicans for that, right?
So it’s not just about the independent candidacy any more. It’s about him. Enough. Just leave.
Meanwhile, Bob Kerrey follows up his fabulous declaration of 1992 (when he proclaimed Bill Clinton unelectable) by promising to stump for HoJo.
If his prognostication skills remain as sharp as ever, I think we’re good.
Update: Gilliard waxes quite eloquent on the subject tonight.

Did I get everybody?
First!
Maybe second.
Sorry, I got giddy. First time being first.
Why would Kerrey even bother to get involved with this? What’s the motivation? It can’t possibly help him for 2008, if that is what he is thinking.
Bill!
Droopy Joe Lieberman is a totally self-absorbed selfish person. His wife Hadassah, contrary to news reports, is part and parcel of his decision and his plans to wage the general election campaign as an Independent. They are both totally disregarding the voting of the citizens of Connecticut. Running as an Independent definitively means he’s no longer a Democrat, as he is so openly and blatantly declaring. The party leaders need to command the nerve to strip him of all perks such as committee leadership. He needs to be told to give up this stupidity of a campaign. Reid isn’t doing it. Fellow CT Senator Chris Dodd isn’t telling him that. Only Gov. Richardson some 2,000 miles away has the huevos to say so.
just got a fund-raising letter from the DSCC and Harry Reid – told ‘em “not one nickel” until Lieberman was included in the list with Chaney for playing politics with terror… and until Liarman is publically repudiated….
of course, the DSCC hasn’t gotten a nickel from me for a long, LONG time…
When the hell was the last time we even heard a peep from Bob Kerrey…or cared?
Kerrey and Liarman worked together in the PNAC offshoot CLI (Committee to Liberate Iraq). Liarman was honorary co-chairman with McCain.
The CLI group are all the usual neocon suspects.
The viseral reaction to the loss of Liarman is because Liarman was a mole in the Democratic Party. He needs to be cut out like any other cancer. Now.
I’m so embarrassed that Kerrey was the candidate I originally supported before the primaries started in ‘92. He’s been nothing but a coward and a narcissist ever since.
Well, except maybe when he said Santorum was “Latin for asshole.”
Nobody gives a rat’s ass about Bob Kerrey or what he thinks. Let’s see, first Republican Mayor Bloomberg and now Bob Kerrey supporting Droopy Joe. Any other New Yorkers want to tell the Connecticut voters how they should vote?
Swopa 11 — I’ll give him that one.
This trend needs to be helped along. The politicos need a push sticking it to Joe harder, to feel the urgency of it. I’m liking Chris Dodd as due for a little attention, prominent Joe enabler and presidential hopeful that he is — I faxed him a two page letter yesterday.
Joe is doing serious damage every day with his little game, is quickly becoming an integral part of the Republican noise machine. There is no practical reason for any Democratic politician to put up with it for another minute.
.
Perhaps next the Rev. Sun Myung Moon and Little Orphan Annie will weigh in with their support of Lieberman. Then Lil Debbie Snackcakes will give her endorsement. What a joke.
I’m willing to give Reid a few days to go from pressure to threatening to revoke Lieberman’s committee assignments (I expect this to happen behind closed doors; doing it in public first would just make Joe more stubborn.) But after a few days, if Joe doesn’t stop running against the Democratic candidate he can’t be a Democrat any more.
Good on the Governor of New Mexico.
don’t want to poop in the pool but . . .
IMHO – richardson is little better than RGJoe.
i recently heard Greg Palalst on laura flander’s radio show talking about our man richardson . . . he is no poor boy done good. his father was a exec for shitty, i mean, citibank in south america. palast said that he is only a DEM cause that is the only to get elected in NM.

glad he is slamming holy joe but . . .
Woo-hoo Josh Marshall!
You know, I feel for Ned. Here’s a guy who is a political novice, pretty much, and as of today, he’s the al-Qaeda candidate on CNN for God’s sake. A couple of days ago he was supposedly the silver-spoon millionaire candidate. WTF? Do they get that the screeching and flailing around they’re doing, how insincere it all sounds?
I saw a diary over at dKos making the point that Ned should be hitting back on all this crap right now rather than letting it go, and I have to say I agree. I mean, the Republican crank machine is in full swing and we’re going to have to fight like hell.
the Warbucks Daddies are definitely supporting Cut’n Run Joe …

Guess Kerrey is just a Lieberman in sheeps clothing.

i doubt reid will do this: there is virtually no more in session time in congress this year till after the election . . . so it would be functionally meaningless . . .

agreed: my email saying so went out wednesday!!!
No more fig leaves for BushCo.
The filth and venom and lies coming from the reactionary warmongers is astounding. And Lieberman spews slanderous lies against perfectly mainstream candidates like Lamont (and by implication, crazy radicals like Tester Busby and Webb too, I guess) that THEY are the polarizing and partisan forces.
LieberBush is an empty opportunistic slandering liar. A thug. He decided to go that route in the last weeks of his primary campaign. It didn’t work. Apparently he forgot any decency he had when he actually stood for anything at all decades ago, so he’ll stick with the being a slimeball, even if it means becoming another lying head sprouting out of the BushCo monster. He has no new act, he forgot the one fit for family viewing. He can get no new audience. So he changes theatres and hopes to gull some ususpecting folks in to see his show. The show is billed as independent, but is really a subsidiary owned 100% by BushCo.
Look at the actual substance of what he has said and done over the last two years. Substance, content, matter, what you actually recommend doing, actual deeds. The truth of what he had done. On bankruptcy bill, reproductive rights, judicial appointments, social security, war on terror, Iraq… anything. Only difference is that Lieberman has done it in a slimy creepy way, trying to cover his tracks with deceptive strategic voting in the Senate, and by obstructing sensible Democratic alternatives by giving reactionaries cover. The CT Democrats got tired of all the BS, so threw him over. He has lied not only in word, but in deed.
This scum is lying and smearing his ass off to keep his dying political career alve a few more days on life support.
Forget attack. That is too kind. Time for ruthless and nonstop ridicule. Liberman = Bush, on domestic as well as foreign policy. Both complete failures in every way.
If DLC, Schumer and Emanuel cannot wake up and respond to this, then time to simply ignore them and shout out the truth as loudly as possible.
The neocons have gone so nuts, the best offense may be giving some of their advice as much publicity as possible and ridiculing. Let the public know that this crowd now believes
–the age of diplomacy is over
–violence as first resort is not only moral but wise
–if genocidal tactical nukes might do the trick, go for it dude
–it would be a good thing to start a WWIII on FOUR freaking fronts at the same time.
Deterrence, diplomacy, multilateral action, international cooperation is out. You know, it worked to give us victory in WWII and the Cold War. It was a successful policy, so it is something the neocons obviously have no interest in at all.
I think this sums up the reason for the hysterical smears nicely:

OFG — just trying to keep up with you ;)
Jumpin’ Joe and Bobby Kerrey are classic examples of “small man syndrome.” We all know that means they’re compensating for their small…..well, you know…I bet they both own a Porsche. Just a hunch…
I’m getting carried away. Allied victory WWII was about multilateral action and international cooperations with allies. I have to admit, it was a little short on diplomacy.
wesgpc — That DailyKos diary was good, but I think there’s at least two more solid reasons why the rash of toxic waste from the Repugs.
Posted my rationale in the EPU zone, last thread.
Charts, too.
BTW, Jane, here’s a post that may relate to your “Bored Now” post from early July…
Lieberman let himself be seduced. By the VP nod, by holding hands across the aisle with Repugs, by smiling as Bush smooched him. He thought it all put him dead center of power and prestige.
But when the Republican Borg absorbs you, the first thing to go is perspective. Then humility. Devotion to principles beyond self-interest. Service to the community.
Logic. Ethics. Honor.
And finally, your soul.
Only hubris survives. And it will outlast Joe Lieberman’s career.
We could use a few symbols on our side. The world is boiling, both with wars and temperature, meth labs are everywhere, health insurance is not. Jobs are being exported and labor is being imported. Unions and the middle class are rpidly becoming extinct. But our local politicians in Oklahoma say in every commercial that they oppose burning the flag.
Josh was wanking pretty hard for Joe up until the Primary, glad to see that he’s seen the light of reason.
I’m really afraid Lieberman might pull a Zell, anyone else think that way?

HAH! during the war, it took the utmost of diplomacy to maintain the functioning of the Alliance.
Zogby poll and post on Huffpo, re huge national Dem support for Lamont:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/…..27064.html
Why democrats are cowardly and do not answer in a bold and truthful way. Every single issue of war on terrorism, or threat is used by Republicans to BEAT the democrats and demonize the so called liberals. Listen to Fox or any radio show, the entire debate is framed against Democrats. They are called weak, cowardly, friends of Jihadis and linked to Osama Bin.
This latest terror plot in UK should be used as an opportunity by the democrats to blast the total incompetence of Bush-Cheney leadership and call for their resignation.. They have wasted hundreds of billons of dollars, attacked the wrong country, killed innocent civilians and American serviceman, and created more hatered for west. Instead of containing terrorism by all means including diplomatic, shrewd and pragmatic policies, Republicans adminstration has stoked the fires of terrorism and extremism. How come such gang is supposed to be “strong” on terrorism and national security??
Very glad to see Richardson has cleared his nostrils.
Joe the whining short ride draft dodger has a ways to go before he’s going to be able to see the depth of his excruciating public display of self-inflicted humiliation. I swear if one more person has to tell Joe he’s got a flat tire, it will be fatal.
I don’t think there’s any point in Gore soiling his dialing finger to give the sap a call. The guy is radioactive, engulfed in a pointless hell normally reserved for guys like DeLay. Maybe the best thing for Joe is to just keep haaaaanging on so that he becomes the perfect specimen of abhorrent DINO incumbant behavior. So there’s absolutely no one left in America who doesn’t see the abject horror that is his irredeemable lot in life.
I would not be so quick to write off Gov. Richardson as I Heart Jane was above. He has broad experience as a Democrat in government. Congressman, U.N. Ambassador, Secretary of Energy, Governor of a battleground state. I applaud him for putting the Liebertantrum in proper perspective. Lieberman is Toast. Good riddance. Now, where the hell is Bill Clinton?
Jane Hamsher @ 34
Coming from such a brilliant and lovely lady as yourself, that is high praise indeed. Thank you for the encouraging words.
It has been interesting watching Josh Marshall’s evolution as the campaign has unfolded. He is an honest centrist and there are a lot of people like him in the general electorate. This recent statement of his is telling of Lieberman’s failure post-primary.
Mark Schmitt is another one who took a little time to warm up, but now rails against Joe.
.
CNN:
“Lieberman lost Tuesday’s primary to Lamont, a millionaire cable executive, 52 percent to 48 percent.”
Lieberman is a millionaire as well. Why don’t the fucking media EVER mention that?
what wesqpc said at 8:52 p.m.
cranky yankee–That’s why we so need bloggers. They report facts. They are beholden to no large interests.
Jane your role as a selfless passionate justice seeking soul should never be forgotten.
After reading some of the comments coming from our boy Joe, I think it is going to take a full fledged intervention to get him to drop his independent run.
That man is either fully duped by Bush Inc or he is a party to the lies and crimes. Either choice is a pretty horrible consideration.
…..and now, I have this image of an intervention from the Sopranos when it was decided that Chris needed treatment. After a couple of statements regarding how Chris’ behavior hurt others, Chris responded with insults. The intervention ended with the group pounding their point home, with their fists.
Funny that that intervention comes to mind now.
When Sen. Jeffords of VT abandoned the Republicans in 2001 (?) after many years as a senator, I believe he lost all his committee assignments and caucused as a Democrat. Can we make a case to Reid & Co. to follow the same principle with Lieberman, using precedent as the argument. Then, it makes it less a personal thing.
I used to work for a senator and was in a meeting as the only staffer among a number of different senators. At the end of the meeting the senators started making a making a game plan as to how to contact different groups within the senate to accomplish what they had been talking about. One senator said that he would take the lead in talking to the democratic caucus, another said that he would speak to the republican caucus. and then the senator i worked for chimed up and jokingly asked “who is going to contact leiberman”? everyone, both republicans and democrats busted up laughing. the understanding was obvious — leiberman was in his own class, and it certainly wasn’t the heroic bipartisan maverick that he sees himself as. they basically all indicated that he was full of shit and was willing to do whatever he thought would be best for his own career. the guy is a grandstanding blowhard – he just misjudged where the public is right now. serves him right…

PKC 9:04 p.m.
Yes, I think that is exactly what Joey Short Ride needs. Now, again I ask, Bill Clinton, where are you?
BlueUU @ 19
I am getting a little frustrated with people saying this. Lamont has responded. Others have responded, too, but the terror story drowned everything out and even kicked Howard Dean off of a number of scheduled TV appearances. Lamont and Feingold are on the Sunday shows. There is a response and there will continue to be one.
#40: I don’t think symbols are most important thing right now. Though I am tempted to try out my non-existent photoshop skills to cook up too headed LieberBush GOP zombie sucking brains out of DLC fools.
I think simple easily understandable position statements. Assertions of fact. Talking points related to reality. Pointed questions that Bushco should answer. those are what are needed. I took a tour of some of the Democrat candidates who have been making progress: Lamont of course, McNerney, Brown, Busby, Tester, Madrid. Webb (Well, OK, Webb… not so much progress as we’d hoped).
Dude, they lay out their positions, the reasons, the accusations against BushCo. And problems with Iraq, War on Terror right out frong. Right on the front page or all in one place in the issues sections. They are very easy to find and read, easy to understand. No hiding like the stupid cowardly half-way bought out DLC.
I think that is what we need. Take a look at those sites. That kind of stuff needs to be on every non-reactinary web site in the country. It ain’t on the DLC, that’s for sure. Emanuel shows signs of maybe getting it. Schumer, I don’t know.
I think “Questions for Bush” or “Fact and Fiction” or “What They Said and What They Done” sections are needed. Look at some of the grassroots Dem sites. I think that is what is needed, in caps, all over.

more remarkably — Joe became a millionaire while on a government employees salary … Hadassah must have clipped a lot of grocery coupons …
cranky yankee @ 49
I am more upset at the short shriff CNN is giving Lamont. Faux news did the same thing the other day. Future Senator of CT Ned Lamont is NOT a millionaire. He is a MULTI millionaire. Besides, that dog won’t hunt. Folks are tired of elected officials beholden to lobbyists funding. Lamont stands behind himself. This is not a bad thing.
Just as a “by the way” or a “just thinking”
moment maybe THE L-Man really wanted to be
DICK CHENEY all along. He really wanted to be
up there with George the Dumber Bush and lead
the neo-con assault on more saner American
international thinking. What becomes the big
? now is why didn’t THE L-MAN just jump over
to the GOP years ago and be honest and open
about what he thinks or advocates? So this
then becomes the central problem for anyone
who suggests that L-MAN was ever a real Demo
for CT voters. If he is a GOP wannabe then
he should have declared on that a long time
ago. If he lacked the conviction or strenght
of character to do so he deserves all the
ridicule, scorn and mockery the Dems can
hurtle at him. Where is the Democratic Party
leadership on this? If they can not muster
some genuine indignation over how L-MAN is
undermining them they deserve to be run out
of the party too. Enough of this playing
pointless “patty-cake–patty-cake” with the
likes of L-MAN. Or drop the pretense of being
anything other than the GOP LITE PARTY. Some
real honesty,integrity and conviction would
surely be refreshing for a change from this
bunch. Either get out front and lead or get
out of the way.So Dem Party Leadership…
choose or lose…get off the poop-pot…
BDK #56:
Thanks for that story. But still, why do they all play nice with Loserman in front of cameras?
I’m hesitant to admit this for fear of jinxing, but I think reality is catching up. The lies, distortions, accusations can’t out spin the truth. Eventually, the truth just gets too big, you know?
When I think of what Rover and his pack of weasels are facing for this mid-term, I see Leonardo, the plate-spinner on Ed Sullivan show, frantically leaping among the forest of polls from plate (Abramoff) to plate (warrantless wiretapping) to plate (Medicare) to, well, you know the labels of these plates. .. this one now slowing down about to crash… these two are wobbling.. the one on the far left slowing down now too soon … “oh dear, the one in the back row is almost vertical and here I am, in the front row on the other side of the stage!”
They’ve been forced to concentrate their efforts on the big plate in the front. The one that has “total failure in Iraq” printed on it. That’s the one they must keep upright and spinning or all the others come crashing down with it.
Ned Lamont with the people of CT behind him, walked up on stage and placed his thumb on the rim of that big plate, slowing it down to a perilously lazy, wobbly turn.
Now Rover, Deadeye, Snowjob and the wurlitzer are blowing as hard as they can to keep that ugly, cracked dish up on that little stick. AND they have to keep the other plates spinning, at least enough to remain on their respective sticks.
I’m betting that gravity/reality wins, eventually. It always does. With hard work and a take-no-prisoners approach, we will see a victory for reality, sooner than later.
Let’s just spit it out. We are waiting for the Clintons — both of them — to snap out of it and ask Joe to step aside.
They are going to take their sweet time. They are triangulating this and hard.
Where was Rupert Murdoch on Lieberman’s candidacy, for or against?
Check Matt Stoller’s list at MyDD of late donations to Liebermann(sorry, no link); these people really put it on the line, were there when the going got rough. Many of these folks are in New York state; many give on both sides of the aisle.
There’s at least one other trend here, but I’m not going to air it out here. Definitely some triangulation going on.
It’s in his kiss.
Dick and Jane of teenagers get careless one night and a pregnancy results. Jane rules out abortion on religious grounds. The trouble is, they don’t really like each other all that much. But, neither one, especially Jane, is going to admit that fact to the Parents. So they get married, wishing every step of the way they could figure out how to back out,* spend a few unhappy years together doing their immature best for the baby until one of them gets fed up and quits.
I think that maybe that’s where Joe Lover-man is. He accepted Don George’s kiss, realized the next morning that it was a mistake, but he’ll be damned if he’s going to admit it to anyone else. So he digs himself in deeper and deeper. Just like Dick and Jane, his vanity is going to ruin his life.
*In this situation I recommend the method from the first scene of “Mystic Pizza.” Simply pass out on the way down the aisle, and then don’t reschedule.
Rayne @ 37
All the coolest stuff happens in The EPU Zone.
(Just trying out catchphrases for when I open up my caf/bar named “The EPU Zone.”)
All the media, Lieberman and Cheney name-calling (Al Queda candidate, etc.) is meant to keep Democrats on defense instead of offense.
Why is Al Queda strong? Because Bush and his fumbling inept handling *made* it strong. He and his cabal are the best recruiting tool Bin Laden ever had.
So they need not bother me about what the Democrats “might” do. It is all too evident what the Republicans have done. They’re living out their cowboy fantasies without any real planning, comprehension or conscience.
Go Ned. Stand tall. You are the man. We’re with you.
Hilde — good image — except i used to root for the plate guy on Ed Sullivan. We didn’t want any of the plates to fall, because that would be embarrassing. With Bush/Rove, we want them all to come crashing down.

you and me both
It has probably been said many a time, but as a Senator Lieberman was only an inch away from declaring himself as a Republican, IMHO. He could have done it at ANY moment, if it were necessary for his ends. EVEN IF HE HAD WON over Lamont, that danger would continue to exist.
If the Dems won the Senate and held a 50-49-1 edge, do not think for one second that Bush would not urge Joementum to pull a Jeffords, only not stopping at Independent. Oh, THAT would make Bush’s and Rove’s day, wouldn’t it?
And if anyone thinks that Nomentum is actually running AS A DEMOCRAT WHO WOULD SUPPORT THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY, think again. He has several reasons to run, but one of them is to sabotage the Democratic Party.
Bush has wooed him for a long time, just as the GOP has wooed so many Senators and Congressmen in recent decades: “Come on, Joe, your not really like them, are you? Not like those little people. Come on, you think of yourself as better than everyone else. We see it every day. You’re one of us, Joe. Admit it. . . and join us, Joe…”
And, having LOST and had so many people tell him to shut the fuck up and take your lickin’ like a man, Sicko-mentum would like nothing more than to stick it to all of them.
He ain’t no Democrat, folks. He’s got one of them Guaould thingies in him. He ain’t the same no more.

60% of Americans are oh so tired of the occupation of Iraq. I don’t know what percent of harried Americans just trying to go to work or take the one well-deserved vacation they get a year had to wait in way long lines at airports all over to throw away valuables and be searched and risk expensive electronics in checked luggage, but how does Lieber-Liar-Loserman “caucassing” with Bush/Cheney/Rove/Mehlman on the TerrorAllTheTime meme help him? I don’t get it. I think he’s taking his own self down.
FWIW
One of the most powerful counterarguments to Bush’s claim of protecting us against terrorists is that he let bin Laden get away (deliberately I might add, to focus on Iraq), when the latter was holed up in Bora Bora shortly after 9/11. This has been documented over and over, and yet the Democrats are not using it. How can Bush claim to be making us safer from terrorism when the man who directed the 9/11 attack is still at large? If the shoe was on the other foot, we would never cease hearing about the Dems lettting bin Laden get away, yet the Dems are as quiet as mice on the issue (except for Wesley Clark, who has said this many times). Now is the time to hit them on this, since they are making hay with the Scotland Yard bust.
HEY FOLKS!!!

Anyone who is part of an offshoot of PNAC , CLI, is part and parcel of the death machine that has its grip on the neck of America, and the throttling has just begun. It is really going to get hard to breathe. PNAC original name for ‘Operation Iraqi Freedom” was “Operation Iraqi Liberation”.
Someone thought the acronyn OIL was clever. The same bastard that came up with IED (DIE), no doubt.
Hilde — I agree all the policies have been disasters. The helpful metaphor I thought you were suggesting was that Rove/Bush continue to keep the false “image” of successes spinning, even though the reality is failure, and the spinning still fools much of the MSM.
PRESSURE needs to put on Barbara Boxer to get a meeting with Joe NOW to have him get out of the race.
Because Hillary and the Big Dog don’t want a real national race on the war because that makes it tough for her in 08 – especially with what Gergen is saying……about Lamont’s win.
Ex-WH adviser David Gergen, on the ‘08 effect: “The smart money says it may really in the end help Al Gore. … Al Gore is the one figure who is strong, a heavyweight who came out early against the war in Iraq, has been consistently against it. … Al Gore is more closely allied with the Move On.org groups, the leftist liberal groups. And he’s been a bit of a hawk. As you know, he voted for the first Persian Gulf War, so he could have it in both ways, in effect, as a candidate. He just got this popular movie out. So I would not be surprised if we hear more from Al Gore and more about Al Gore in the next few weeks” (”AC 360,” CNN, 8/9). [EMILY GOODIN]
Next day —–Gore not so green? Your thoughts?
An opinion piece is cracking into USA TODAY.com’s most-read stories this morning — a relatively rare occurrence. It’s from author and Hoover Institution fellow Peter Schweizer. The headline summarizes: “Gore isn’t quite as green as he’s led the world to believe.”
The criticism of Gore begins in detail in the third paragraph. “For someone who says the sky is falling, he does very little,” Schweizer writes. “He says he recycles and drives a hybrid. And he claims he uses renewable energy credits to offset the pollution he produces when using a private jet to promote his film. (In reality, Paramount Classics, the film’s distributor, pays this.)” More criticisms follow.

#87: I don’t know where to find what the chemicals were. But one important point is that this should not have been a surprise. The 9/11 commission talked about this possibility. Kean discussed it as something that had been overlooked today or yesterday, I think.
Note that one of the GOP scare tactics has been to have one of their spokesman say “Oh my God, who wouldda thunk a this. Be scared be real scared!”
The GOP is slipping up so bad. They lie out of their own mouths every day, reel out yards of rope to hang themselves six times over. Why Dems don’t use the material, I do not know.
leiberman definitely has dual loyalties – himself and the democratic party.
Subway,
I wouldn’t want to be posting ingredients that makes things go pop. However, I am grateful someone in this world has intelligence that works to stop this before it happened. It’s sorta cute the way our presidunce is strutting around thumping his chest, when there is no evidence of intelligent life forms in this administration. Quick Scottie, beam me up.
I just dont understand why the Dems dont pound the rethugs into the ground with the fact that W hasnt gotten BIN LADEN!!!!!! Why???? That is pure Gold!!!! Talk about Failure. I am just hoping and praying the Lamont win grows back some spines for the dems.
re #93: I meant to say that Kean talked about the manufacturing explosives on the plane as being something (else) that BushCo overlooked and ignored from 9/11 commission report.

I am actually curious how this “LOOK SCARY TERRORISTS.” plan will work in Conn. A lot of Conn. residents work in NYC, come here occasionally and were generally part of the 9/11 tragedy. We WENT THROUGH the worst terrorist attack on American. While I think pols screaming TERROR to constituents in middle America, freaks them out enough to do what the pols want them to, having been a constant target the Tri-State area are tired of it. We have had or lives changed — we have random bag checks in the subway, we had blocks clear because of anthrax, we are always at orange alert.
I think a lot of Tri-Staters (all three went Blue in 2004) are more harried by the constant cry of TERROR than the rest of the country.

Ah. I made a boo-boo in my EPU Zone commentary.
June 27 = Israeli soldier taken captive
June 9 = Israel bombs Palestinian family on beach
June 8 = Zarqawi killed
These things influence the traffic on those charts I linked.
The other chart to watch:
http://www.technorati.com/chart/tag:iraq civil war
They lost control of it and had to find a way to turn it around. They didn’t kill off the Lamont story right way or release the terror alert story sooner, because Lamont actually kept us from talking about the civil war in Iraq. Once we started talking too much about Democratic Party candidates, they decided to fuel some in-fighting long enough to get their unified messaging on the terror alert lined up.
At least if I was in marketing trying to do damage control, this is what I’d be doing.

I read he was taking a well-deserved break at his retreat in Maine. Which is not to say he is idle. I am sure he brought some advisers along and they are doing some brainstorming. And he has been issuing statements answering Lieberman’s lies.
All hail King David
…and the crowd goes wild…RAAAAAHHHHH!
Hey Jane –
You are the cat’s pajamas . . .
You, and the CT bloggers, and OFG — do us all proud . . .
On the NewsHour tonight, Mark Shields said that HoJo crossed over to the (way bad dark side) when he said that Ned Lamont was a victory for the bad guys.
Joe Lieberman — the self important stool; that needs San-o-Flush, cherry bombs, heavy duty pungers, and triple flushing — before he goes down the tubes.
Jane, if you care, for auditing purposes, I just used the FDL link to buy one used copy of Dean’s CONSERVATIVES WITHOUT A CONSCIENCE for 12 bucks and change. Shipping was 4 bucks.
I’m afraid it too late for any democrat to have influence on Joe. He’s gone over to the dark side, officially. He used to just be self-interested and full-of-himself. Now he’s got the rethugs fawning over him and cooing to his hurt pride. He’s not smart enough or savvy enough to know he’s being taken for a ride by goopers. He will bend over backwards to please his new masters and then they will dump him. Joe will not get out of this race. I can feel it.
Our best hope is to be unrelentless in our swaying of public opinion. So that he LOSES once and for all, gets a 3% pity vote and that’s it.

It’s really that simple. And so, for me, utterly fucking frustrating. Like a Punch and Judy show, only the audience really believes that Punch and Judy are living organisms.
Personally, I am ok with Lamont cooling out for the weekend. By Sunday morning, if the beck channels egostroking hasn’t worked — I want ALL DEMS to take the gloves off and swing away.

Actually what I’m saying is the MSM are saying that these folks are trying to hide an explosive in a tube of Fix-O-Dent, yet there has been no mention of a kitchen where they were brewing this love potion.
As I said, this could turn out to be less than it was presented. If true, they must have shit their pants when Lieberman lost.
Ned Lamont and family are on vacation –
Team Lamont are busy eviscerating Turd Leiberman at every opportunity.
Lieberman’s rhetoric has become so unhinged in the last day or so that I wonder how many of his well-connected and monied friends are going to help him. Seriously, if you’re a Democratic-friendly lobbyist or financier and you hear Lieberman accusing the party of working for al Qaeda do you support his efforts anymore?
Like Jane hinted at with journalists, I have to think the power players behind the scenes are starting to think of Lieberman as some crank standing on the street corner ranting. All he needs now is an unkempt beard.
G’night firepups.
I am 100% convinced that Josh’s reaction is the exact same reaction those Dems who voted for Lieberman will have.

Bob Kerrey–a legend in his own mind and a bad memory in every democrat’s mind.

My brain is toast. I needed a night to take care of some things and catch up around the cave and stuff. I’ll be back on Sunday. And maybe a surprise afternoon post here and there.
maeme — you know, the first couple of times folks said that, I thought, Okay, Lamont’s taking time with the family and advisors before he starts a marathon of wind sprints…
But after the first couple of times, it’s one of two things: concern trolling, or promotion of a nasty frame.
Let’s get this straight — and you can check the charts I linked for backup — there’s NO F*CKING WAY that the right-wing owned and operate media would let Lamont through during the Terra’Alerts. It didn’t serve their interests. They will throw us a bone when they are ready, as apparently they will be on Sunday morning.
As someone noted in a thread at DKos, none of the Dems are getting air time, they’re effectively in lock-down. Howard Dean was supposed to be on at least two of the major stations yesterday morning, but he was preempted by Terra-terra-terra. Might have been nice to hear what Dean had to say about both Lamont and Lieberman, but that’s exactly what they don’t want us to hear.
Now what the hell are you going to do about it if you aren’t a concern troll and you’re not pushing a bad meme?
Prairie Sunshine @ 131

I suspect you’re correct. I’m a pretty on top of things political lady, but every time I’ve seen that name I say “Who the hell is Bob Kerrey, again?” And while I’m no spring chicken either, more like an early autumn, I can’t quite see his relevance to any discussion in which I have to ask myself “Who the hell is Bob Kerrey…AGAIN?” :D

Wanna hear a funny story? OK.
My best friend is a P.A. (physician’s assistant). Three years ago, He was the highest ranking PA in the Air Force. He was offered the job of being the PA on Air Force One. This is a HUGE ‘honor’ and puts you ‘General Officer’ track. He turned it down, twice. Within a few weeks Chimpy had a trip to Sacramento and Travis Air Force Base hospital was designated to be the prez’s ER.
My friend John was in charge of the ER and did not want the president there. So when the chimpy’s ‘advance team’ showed up in the ER and started ordering people around, John said, in his nicest voice to the assembled advance team, “This is very exciting! we are so honored to be hosting the president during his visit here. And I can’t WAIT to meet Condoloma Rice!!”
(A condoloma, for the medically uninitiated, is a genital wart)
The team promptly packed up and used UCDavis for the visit.
TRex:…SOUTH node! Its’ big !(Heh, knock that one out too)
The real scandal about Bush’s failure to get OBL is not even that he didn’t catch the jihadist, but that he did not even try. By all accounts a successful raid on OBL’s mountain hideout was not a guarantee, but well within the scope of Special Forces capability. At that time, Cheney was hot to trot on Iraq, and they figured OBL was a minor distration, I guess. The prize was Saddam Hussein, you know, the guy with all the WMD. Absolutely beyond comprehension, and yet the MSM and the Dems have given Bush a pass on this since December of 2001. And now they tell us they are protecting us from terrorists, and all they succeeded in doing was foment civil war in Iraq, and run our Army into the ground, at the cost of thousands dead on both sides. Way to go, George. And they have the nerve to call people who are against Iraq encouragers of terrorists. Who abetted terrorism when they let OBL get away?
BDK #75:
I can understand the choosing your battles sort of thing that has to happen, but hasn’t everything Shrubya wants been accepted by the Senate ever since 9/11? I mean, it been so lopsided for so long that “consensus” just means Repubelican, and it’s more than just being in the majority party, I think.
I remember Mary Landrieu, a classic “consensus” builder in the mold of Loserman, crying and being horrified at what happened to her state of Louisiana when Katrina hit last year. Every time I saw her speaking out about the lack of Fed response to the crisis she just seemed so pathetic. Where was her payback for the pandering she had done over the years? You’d think something as devastating as Katrina would generate at least some bones thrown your way for all your submission.
Historically, Congress was much more combative, and through it all, this experiment called America was becoming more and more refined for the better. This cowering to the bullies is (HAS) entered us into a Constitutional Crisis, and we actually have people (I use that term loosely), saying we’re in WWIII already. Jezzus H. Christ! Look what Leaverman and his ilk have done to this country, all in the name of playing nice.

I agree. CT is very aware of the evil of terrorism. I lived through 9/11 in Fairfield County, CT. Most communities lost people in New York that day.
Of course it’s beyond comprehension that Lieberman thinks he will attrack a higher number of voters by telling people who have actually suffered personl loss, that their support of Lamont means they want the terrorists to win.

I have to tell you that Landrieu has a tough spot. We are a state that swings back and forth. If there is no money in it for the crooks…well you are out of luck they already gave all the dough to Halliburton.
Our other Senator from LA is Rubber Stamp David Vitter. I keep sending him nasty messages when he brings up the anti-flag burning measure etc. He votes with the party I would say about 98% of the time, knee jerk and no thought whatsoever. I think he is popular in LA unfortunately. I think Landrieu is sorta triangulating herself as to not lose when she runs for re-election. She actually was challenged by the Loser Republican when she first got elected. It came down to something like 5,000 votes.
I wish she had won governor because I think she could have done lots as governor. I read her platform and it was a great plan.
In any case I don’t want to excuse here entirely but she is running in Louisiana, not Conecticut. It is a whole different ball game down here. Racism sells. North Louisiana is also like a whole other country from New Orleans. Worlds apart. North LA is bible thumping evangelicals that wonder why we are still whining about Katrina. South LA is fun loving Catholics that are way more laid back, and trying to rebuild the whole lower half of the state. Remember Rita hit the west side of the state.
Hope…no, maybe I should get it as Nodes have been my greatest challenge…I mean I get what their significance is but how the planets and aspects affect them is gibberish to me
Our governor wants to be presnit real bad — don’t ever take your eye off that. He’s pretty much establishment on most issues, though I have to say he does it with some flair. As public officials go, I’d call him pro-environment. He shows up a lot, talks to people, makes local and state news. At least he’s a real governor.
Too bad the country doesn’t have a real president. I’d settle for most anyone with intelligence, compassion, and a good handshake.
It just occurred to me that the British government must be weak on terrorism. They treated this alleged “liquid terror” plot as a law enforcement issue, not as an excuse to launch a war. When’s Cheney going to criticize Blair?

Over on Huffington Post, there’s a thread in which the theme of supporting Jonathan Tasini over Hillary keeps coming up. To quote Spambolaya, “With so many Dems supporting Lamont, I wonder why they’re not sending checks to Jonathan Tasini, anti-war primary senate challenger in NY. Lieberman = Clinton, and Tasini = Lamont (minus $$$)”
Why are we not talking up Tasini in the blogs to oust Hillary, just like Lamont was talked up in the blogs to oust Lieberman???? When’s the NY primary?
I’m hoping that Reid et al said something to the effect they were going to give HoJo a week to calm down and see reason. I’m willing to give them that week, but not longer.
Monday or Tuesday at the latest, I expect we will start to see the public push of HoJo out. I like spiderpaws’ take of HoJo being completely out by the 17th. Don’t forget, this anchor, as are the vast majority of his co workers, is a REPUBLICAN!
…sometimes it’s nice just to watch all these stupid admin people hang themselves and not worry about what to “do” about it…
So, on the east coast it’s your birthday, TRex? (Or am I reading something wrong?)
You know, I misread what Spiderpaws was asking me. I read it as, “You’re a big talker and thinker, but what day of the month is it right now, Mister Space Cadet?”
So, I stuck out my chin and said, “I know perfectly well that it’s August the 12th. The clock on my computer says so.”
Duh.
What’s my birthday?
May 30.
So is my twin’s.
I love you people.
Sharkbaaaaaaaaabe!!!!
*Tackles you and gives you a big bear-hug*
Where have you been?
Good Night Friends,
May the Love that knows no Comprehension find refuge in your hearts and in your homes forever.
TRex – You know, I’m not into astrology, but even i know that Gemini doesn’t fall in August. (I think I even wished you a happy B-day back when it happened.) Never mind.. :p
…well this is it exactly TRex…you would certainly not connect with that part of life but with Mars in Leo (at least this is where you say it is) it would be important to you to look nice…you seem to be playing it safe, sorta like “when in doubt, play it safe” with the dressing…once again give me your day & month of birth (not todays date!) and I’ll see if my antenna is working tonight (no green liquids – yet)
TRex @ 201
God, Rex, you continually crack me up. That being said, I’d suggest black and white for a crisp, sharp look to accessorize your grey matter. ;)
The fear they’ve been projecting for 5 years is being reflected back on them by some actual opposition, the kind that’s been missing for too long.
I’ve got a hot little headline rundown here:

I have an ibook question-anyone??
When I put the curser over the comment # it says permanent link to comment. If I click, where will it put the comment??
Sorry, I only know how to get to FDL and my email.
Anyone?
Okay, at about this point in time I’m wondering how many people are like me and are into their fifth or so drink?
Seriously, folks, am I the only tipsy one here or is this how you all sound straight…uh…sober? :D
ReneND @ 213
Clicking the number just centers the comment on your screen. If you wanted to link that specific comment to someone else, you can right-click instead, and copy the link location. Then paste it wherever you want…like on another blog, an email to a friend, etc.
That’s all it’s for.
nite. all you magnificent pups

What’s a Friday night without a few libations?
Just coffee and cigarettes here.
I’m starting a jihad against all of the Talibanists over at Fatwa News Channel. These Pol Pot lovers have been leading the cultural insurgents on their Crusade to rid America, God’s Country, of rational thought. Idi Ailes (I mean Amin) has been marshalling his #2 men, O’Reilly bin Laden and al-Hannity, to take down our bless-ed Stars and Bars (I mean Stripes). Remember, these killers hate America and all our freedoms. You’re either with us, or against us, Adolf. It’s an up or down vote. See on the front lines (at CompUSA getting our weapons updated.)
No one could have anticipate terrorists using liquids to assemble an explosive device on a plane!

The GOP says protecting Americans is JOB ONE. But, apparently, they have no interest in doing it. All BushCo wants is to SCARE us — and that’s what the October surprise will be. SCARY.
God, thanks for the bone, grs, with the sudden silence here I was beginning to think I was closing the bar by myself. Dang, if that won’t make you feel like a lush. :)

My apologies if this has already been addressed, but it would take me about a day to read all the above posts!
It seems to me that Lieberman’s hubris has a singular origin, and his defence has a singular fallacy:
1) Somewhere, probably deeply subconscious, he believes he should rightfully be President in 2008. If Gore’s victory hadn’t been swiped in 2000 (which he was more than useless in preventing), and if the duo had been duly relected in 2004, he would be the logical heir to the throne for 2008. A whole lot of ifs, but it’s easy to imagine him feeling cheated of that.
2) He claims that he has voted 95% with the Democratic party — but I do wonder what part of his 18 years in the Senate that covers. My guess is (going by the list provided by wesgpc’s votinglinks@33: “On bankruptcy bill, reproductive rights, judicial appointments, social security, war on terror, Iraq… anything”) that the 95% are mostly old votes, and the “5%” are the more recent ones.
“I know Joe Lieberman and have a good deal of respect for him,” Mr. Cheney said. “And as I look at what happened [Tuesday], it strikes me that it’s a perhaps unfortunate and significant development from the standpoint of the Democratic Party — that what it says about the direction the party appears to be heading in when they, in effect, purge a man like Joe Lieberman, who was just six years ago their nominee for vice president, is of concern …
“So it’s an unfortunate development, I think, from the standpoint of the Democratic Party to see a man like Lieberman pushed aside. …”
Save your concern Mr. Cheney, the Democratic Party and democrats all across the nation are well aware of the compassion your heart holds for them. The Tuesday election was significant, because it proves that the manipulative hold the administration liars had on the people of our nation is giving way to reason and logic. What it says about the Democratic Party is that it is becoming democratic once again. No more appeasement of the administration, no more capitulating to outrageous unbelievable twisted logic, no more being fearful of the administration’s popularity and its protection from the mainstream media, no more unwarranted killing and torture in the American people’s name, and no more phony pronouncements of deep concern.
Joe Lieberman was not “purged” from the Democratic Party; the voters chose not to support him. The reason they chose not to support him was that he had become a tool of the right wing. His actions over the past six years have reflected the goals and positions of the corporate owned propaganda machine in Washington. Americans are tired of being lied to, are tired of being disrespected and are tired of being thought of as an insignificant force in the nation’s politics. While corporate control of our Congress, according to the administration, is supposed to be given a nod regardless of the unfairness and harm its policies, bring down on the majority of the American people, the people have shown that have taken all that they are willing to take.
The American people do not need your phony compassion Mr. Cheney. What they need is to be rid of a corrupt, unresponsive, unaware, completely self-serving administration, and the sooner the better.
Sharon…fired one up earlier this afternoon but am straight now…Heh

Until you meet the Bad Mommy personality..fear the Bad Mommy!
As a teenager I did my best to be an alcoholic, but the act became boring so I gave it up.
Then as an adult I tried to be a responsible drinker, but after one or two drinks I would have terrible pain in my shoulders as if it was an allergic reaction or some type of toxic reaction.
Some people drink to forget, but when I drank I remembered all too well, therefore no relief. I am forced to face each day without the prospect of being intoxicated at some point, and as Frank Sinatra once said, he felt sorry for people who didn’t drink because each day when they woke-up it was going to be the best they would feel all day.
I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t expecting something great from DMB and J5 musically, but the satirical video is great too. Check it here.

G’nite Teddy, I just got here!
PJ Evans at around 127 said:
You know, this binary fluids thing is just the Mubtakkar of Death without the funny machine. What’s the MoD, you say? It’s described in Suskind’s book The One Percent Doctrine; also here at Secrecy News, and at the Dick Destiny links therein. The MoD is an alleged portable machine (mubtakkar means something like “invention” in Arabic) for mixing two fluids together only when it is desired, by means of some plumbing that can be activated using a switch or cable, possibly remotely. Until triggered, the fluids are stored in separate reservoirs.
No one has actually seen an Al Qaeda-built MoD, but some drawings and descriptions were supposedly found. From these, an intel community engineer built a working model. The model was shown to Cheney, according to Suskind’s account, and ever since, the Mubtakkar of Death has had a spot in the rotation of threats to get everyone running every which-way. Now, I think the original MoD plot was supposed to be a gas poisoning of the IRT or something similarly designed to throttle eternal gratitude for the Bush administration out of us all, but the exploding of a plane fits the concept pretty well: two seemingly innocuous liquids and assorted, similarly routine equipment like cotton balls, plus dastardly Arab alchemists, equals lots of death.
Incidentally, reviews of Suskind’s books treated the MoD story as if it were a more-or-less freestanding story about a subway plot that was mysteriously tabled, but my w.a. interpretation, as said above, is that the story is a leitmotif of his narrative.
A little side note: in a movie thread last week I mentioned one of my favorite popcorn movies, Frantic. Early in the story something happens that I always knew was supposed to be a clue: a character orders a bottle of peroxide and package of cotton balls to be sent to a hotel room. My guess wasn’t so bad, but now I know what the clue meant.
hi op99. Just got here my own self. Was off trying to record something over the banda music coming in off the street from the regular friday night party out there.

Oh hell, I’ve perfected drinking. You only do it in total moderation every single day. LOL No seriously, I can’t shut down my brain at night otherwise, but it’s rare that I actually get “bombed.”
However, I must say that I’ve too often seen people who think they can drown their sorrows in alcohol and most of the time it merely stirs things up. I imagine the pain in your shoulders is due to the stress your brain is feeling in trying to supress that which alcohol is summoning. No use going there in that way.
Pot’s definitely better, but once you hit forty, pot is too hard to come by and too dangerous to grow if you have children.
I don’t need to drink to feel good, but I do need it to calm down. I consider it the equivalent of other’s Prozac or Xanax. Of course, I may be delusional.
Any moonbats awake in this cave?

I’m still here, if that matters. However, I can’t quite figure out if my last post which reads next to my nic “still in moderation” is actually in moderation as I can see it on the board.
Maybe I’ve been talking to myself all night. *g*
Is this place burping or what?
last night around this time I had a few posts disappear into the ether
(astral :~)
I am sure there is some server fatigue going on.
Boy those wingers have really amped up the rhetoric in light of the terrorist scares and the Lieber-scare too.
Now the say the Democrats are Pol Pot, they are the Taliban and Al Qadea. Nice folks, those Bush/Coulter Republicans.
I would have never figured them for the type that would go vicious and dirty at the bottom of the eigth when they are 10 points down..
-GSD
GSD – aren’t you some kind of troll? :~)
(it was good for a laugh yesterday)
GSD – for some reason, whenever I see your signature at the bottom of your posts, my brain tries to change the “S” into an “O”, and I get this double-take effect. When I realize what it really says, can’t tell if I am disappointed or relieved.
SharonW @ 236
Well, as long as I’m talking to myself, let me just say to me, that I think this article is tangental to the blue collar issue in CT. Lamont needs to sell himself more now to the blue collar workers, that’s Waterbury, totally blue collar, wherein these interviews were conducted.
He’s got his work cut out for him given our party’s nominal support of any sound stance.
The servers have been very busy all week. The length of the threads certainly has an impact.
I know what GSD stands for…..
Lamont should spend some of his cash and get the folks who are making tv spots for Eliot Spitzer to cut him a few national spots and run them during a few Sunday football games.

I am friends with GSD and I approve this message.

punaise @ 259
Out of curiousity, can you see my post #253? Not that it was important in any way, whatsoever, but I see this above it:
SharonW says: Your comment is awaiting moderation
So I’m just wondering if I’m sucked into some sort of blackhole of the ethernet or something.
String theory anyone?
Pun, say have you seen the Spitzer spots…simply superb.
-GSD
SharonW – I am talking. Unfortunately, I am not drinky, but medicine-y. Your comment makes good sense – I am sorry I am not more use for good conversation – I feel as though my brain is suffused with taffy right this second.
punaise, I defer to your knowledge.
and yes, I am pretty sure I see both SharonW comment and punaise comment. Could be hallucination, but I can’t get into string theory. It does not please me – inelegant, and the corners scrape when I try to wrap my head around it.
astralplame @ 270
Well, it’s no wonder, darlin’, seeing as to the plame of your existence. ;)
Dang, speaking of which, shouldn’t we be hearing some new arguments soon? I swear there were some rulings or some such expected this month.
The site is eating all of my comments again. I’ve tried posting from different browsers and clearing cookies, rebooted my modem hoping for a new IP address three times, tried a different email, different user name. I’m now trying a different user name, different email, different browser, and have rebooted my modem again.
Please, if this gets posted, will a moderator report it to the webmaster. It’s the 3rd time this week I’ve not been able to comment all day.
I’m too tired now to retype all my original comments again but wanted to share this funny Sore Loserman graphic.

Old Neo-Con Zal Khalilzad is fanning the flames against Iran. Saying that Iran will try to make a the occupation tough for the US by the end of the month.

What arguments?

strike anyone else as odd that Israel did the sudden turnaround this afternoon? can’t figure out if it is a face-saving manuever or what…
SharonW @ 269
it’s there now (as #254) – if that’s the post in question I suspect it got caught in the toobz spam filters on account of the product names you cited.
I bumped into an old friend at the bar tonight. He was just back from Vegas. He’s into betting on weird stuff.
There’s a pool in Vegas right now betting opening nights for movies against existing predictions for their success or failure. My friend says Dick Cheney’s blind trust just put down $5 million for “Snakes on a Plane” to go 150% over expectations.
Just kidding…….
OldCoastie @ 274
yes, odd, and it made me think about how our government is apparently uninvolved in trying to bring peace. Is there any new US gov’t comment pro- or anti- the cease fire?
Thanks for the sympathy, astralplame. There’s something wrong with the site, besides eating comments all day, it loads slow even when threads have no comments. Other sites load fine so it’s not on my end.
Anyway, glad I got the problem reported. Trick is different name, different email, different browser, and reboot the modem 4 times.
Off to bed now. G’nite all.

See that, I’m shifting in and out of mere mortal plames of existence constantly. My comments arrive two minutes later than I do, but other than that, I’m happily coexisting in various dimensions simultaneously. :)
astral – I don’t know what’s going on with our gov’t… there was all that noise a couple days ago that condi and w had a big fight about what to do… I’m feeling like there should be a lot of watch and wait on the whole proposition… I suspect that Israel badly miscalculated the situation and that the military planners aren’t keen on getting into a u.s./iraq situation

An advance to the rear or retrograde attack? Maybe a long overdue attack of common sense on the part of the IDF.
As capable as that “defense” force has been thought to be, and as many questions which have arisen in the past month about the truth of that powerful myth, the IDF is more at risk to squander useful legends than is the US military, which has convinced itself that it can rise again and again from the ashes of earlier models.
The Israelis understand that the phoenix model might not work at all there. Hopefully, the IDF will…………….
Whoa! Now THAT’s a mangled combo post above. disregard comment to punaise.
Punaise, I was just going to say, that I still see it as post #253 refreshed and everything. Weird stringy, eh?
Is this the point where somebody in their right mind says “Sharon go to bed. You can do no right here now?” :)
One foiled terrorist attack.
One Lieberman campaign down in flames.
And a whole bunch of chicken littles running around crying “the sky is falling down, the sky is falling down.
And the next thing you know, the reason the sky is falling down? The democrats in Connecticut voted for Ned Lamont. They embolden al Qaeda. In fact, some people might say, Ned Lamont is al Qaeda’s candidate.
The sky is falling down. And, by implication,
when you go vote, you must make sure to vote for the candidate that won’t please al Qaeda. If you don’t,
The sky will fall down! and it will be your fault!
I say,
I am an American.
And I won’t scared out of voting for the best candidates.
And I don’t care how much clucking chicken little sky falling clucking you do.
In Israel when things don’t go well, they get rid of generals. Right in the middle of the war if need be.
They did just that after it was determined that this Lebanon venture was screwed up.
Likud is going to call for new elections to launch Olmert once the fighting stops.
At least they know how a democracy behaves when it comes to accountability in war time.
-GSD
Today the Israelis used a drone to fire on a convoy of refugees then called “oops” after it killed refugees.
This tactic has helped to lionize Nasrallah.
Heckuva job Ehud.
Ed*ard – I think the IDF got into the same arguments we see in our military… big blowout b/n the air force and the ground commanders… lots o’ egos… with the AF thinking they are “all that”…
also, if w could learn anything ever, a glimpse at what would happen if we go into Iran with only air power alone… hope he takes the hint.
GSD @ 283
Okay, now that rocks. 500 points for originality while utilizing current pop themes. :D
spiderpaws @ 253
Sorry, but this is politics. If ‘nice’ and ‘authentic’ were all it took for a winning strategy, we would be sitting here discussing president Dean’s second term. Besides, my post is mostly about things around the edges, not changing his personality.
Yep.
This has been a dangerous gambit for Israel, they aren’t looking like the giant killers anymore.
-GSD
Thanks OC. Sharon.
OldCoastie @ 280
I always wonder if the administration is just a bunch of small-pond big-fish who have no freaking clue what to do in the very very big pond and are just thrashing around, acting like they are something.
and, that Billmon post is really something. Food for thought. excellent.
I think the giant killers just got a little too big for their britches… remind you of anybody?
Think about these neo-con nitwits that are salivating at the prospect of the US bombing Iran. Think they have a few more missiles than Hezbollah?
Think they still have the coordinates for Iraqi territory that they missiled for 8 years during the Iran/Iraq war?
Think they have more than Hezbollahs 3,00-5,000 fighters who are willing to sacrifice themselves.
Oh those neo-cons, they are brave with other peoples children.
-GSD
Israel and the U.S. are facing the limits of their technology versus a large and entrenched population backed by force of conviction and proxy-supplied armaments. You think this is bad, what happens when they try to face off against 1 billion pissed off Chinese? They can’t even give North Korea a decent stare down these days.
perhaps I’m a little slow on the uptake… these PNAC guys… just exactly what is it they hope to accomplish? I realize they are after more money/more power…. but, really, to what end? where does that go after they have more (or all) the money and the power?
or do they just love “the game”?
Well, the Daily Show used it a week or so ago. :)
OldCoastie,
At some point these folks – ALL the combatants in the greater GWOT – might do well to ask “Is there another way?”
Things are getting so far out of wahck. Lately, I’m being reminded of a thesis brought up in a 60s conspiracy book, _Morning of the Magicians_, or something like that. The author(s) purported the negative dynamic which created the maelstrom resulting in WWII was created by planetary (mis)alignments.
Who knows? I mostly hope, and only pray for wisdom and charity.

To use all force necessary (military, diplomatic, economic) to convert everyone in the world to Christianity.
OldCoastie @ 295
I like Ed*ard Teller’s response. Your comment also made me think of that South Park episode with the Underpants Gnomes – step 1= steal underpants, step 2= ???, step 3= profit!
except these guys aren’t stealing underpants, and what they are missing is step 3. (did I mention my brain is suffused with taffy right now?)
The whole thing just doesn’t make any sense to me… how much money do these guys need? doesn’t cheney have enough for anything he could ever want?
a relative (by marriage, thankfully) like to “manipulate” stuff away from people… wasn’t stuff he needed but it made him feel smarter than everybody else or better or something… it was creepy and these guys remind me of him… it’s a game and winning it is more important than everything else in life – more important than family, more important than dignity…
very strange indeed.
Rob – I don’t think they give the slightest sh*t about Christianity… except that it sets up the construct of “us” and “them”.
In their mind, they are in possession of the one true correct answer to the nature of the universe (Christianity), and it is their duty to force everyone else to believe the same.
It’s the Christianity that defines us vs. them in their minds.
Rob – 306 – exactly… but any actual Christianity on their part doesn’t seem to be in existence… so then, it is only the “game” that is real…
OldCoastie @ 297
Pure PNAC is to acknowledge the fact that we are the world’s sole superpower and as such we should use said force to shape the world in our way for our own interests.
In short, selfish desires fueled by the unwavering concept that we are the best and only enlightened way. A religion of its own even outside of Christianity. My way or the highway. No wait…my way is the highway. All must bow down to the U.S. highway and its insatiable need for “our interests,” i.e. oil.
Oh hell, I’m punning myself all over the place…”fueled by?” Oy.

here is where intuitive brain comes in, and I can’t explain very well. But the shape and flavor of it is almost one of cheating death. Becoming non human. As though if they do all these things to be incomprehensibly powerful, they will achieve eternity in human form. Of course, they are wrong. (a desire for eternal life is a desire for death). Maybe they know they are wrong, and that is part of why they are so nasty about it. Ever read the third(?) book of Lloyd Alexander’s Prydain series? There is a wizard who put his human life into his finger bone, then cut off the bone and hid it. He felt above petty concerns, kindness, love, empathy – was no longer alive as a human. Operated on pure greed for power and pure arrogance.
Sharon – it must be that authoritarian thing that Dean is talking about… because otherwise it is just a giant game of “Risk”. How could a person invest so much of themselves in trying to get everyone to bend to their will…?
Rob Zuber @ 298
Crap, I should’ve been on to that. Why I watch the Daily Show!
Hey, okay, how about this? An added benefit of drinking is…you can hear old jokes as if new. ;)
The concept that these pushers represent Christianity is as fallacious as the one pushed by Hannity that his boogeypeople represent Islam. Or the concept that fundamentalist Jews in West Bank settlements and their backers represent Judaism.
All three of these fundamentalist concepts share very basic beliefs:
The inferiority of women
An antipathy to democracy
An unhealthy worship of martyrdom
A distrust of scientific method
there are other shared concepts, but these are enough to explain a lot of how easily they are manip[ulated by well fuinded international corporation and such.
*The Chinese will be a pushover.
-Richard Perle
*He never said this
astralplame – I think you are on to something with the cheating death… this guy in my family set up his estate so that he continued his manipulations long after his death… an immortality of sorts (even though some of us think of him in the most unfortunate ways).
I’ve never met anyone with lower self-esteem than this guy had (though very grandiose when alive)
OldCoastie @ 313
life=death. Terror of death= terror of life and all that is part of it, both good and bad. Terror of life= irrational mental construct supporting belief that one is “safe” outside or above those doomed to suffer. Arrogance is the shell holding all of the terror under control. Blinding.
I have had reason to think about what life and death mean, and I feel pretty strongly that a lot of irrational and inhuman behavior results from a fear of and misunderstanding of death.
Ed*ard – 2 sides of the same coin, for sure… the whole thing makes me dizzy… I’ve had something resembling vertigo since the lot of ‘em have been in office…
OldCoastie @ 311
Well, there’s a difference between the leaders and the supporters. Dean definitely thinks the leaders are given weight by the supporters of the autoritarinism cult.
I believe that the leaders think themselves as unwavering intellectuals utilizing force of knowledge as to how to play the game with the masses. Unfortunately, they’ve also become delusionally involved in their own hyperbole which at some point had a foot on the floor of reality, but is now on vacation on the sixth moon of Saturn.
astral – seems unfortunate they have to involve the entire world in their little psychodramas…. let’s all chip in and get ‘em some therapy!
Just a random clip of a song I enjoy it (because I can’t fit it into the currnet discussion): Postal Service – Such Great Heights and of course the Postal Service blows me away with We Will Become Silhouettes.Enjoy.
OldCoastie @ 317
it does! I would if I could. It seems maybe they have to act out on a really huge scale, because the more people believe and buy into them, the more they can convince themselves their delusions must be true . . ..
Ed*ard Teller @ 313
Concur. It isn’t the individual religions that matter so much as it is the interpretations the authoritarians utilize in order to foment. And any religion can be had if there is any precendent of the above mentioned, the only constant is the authoritarian leaders who use them.
Well, while they are busy thinking they are smarter than everyone else, I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a bunch of guys with softer hands that look like they’ve never done a true day’s work EVER.
oh man, you guys, it’s getting late! thanks and I’ll catch up with you all on the flip…
night OldCoastie.
GSD @ 314
Okay, you’re just too darned pithy now. ;)
And I’m sufficiently over my head either by drink or lateness of the night to even be coherent. Yikes! I just saw a previous post of mine that absolutely mangled “authoritarianism.” I’m not even sure if I just mangled it, again.
Night all.
grs @ 318
digging it. why does the singer’s voice sound so familiar??
Sharon W,
It isn’t the superstitious f*cks who believe this sh*t that are important in this equation, it is the pattern of money which flows around their activities which is.
Whether it is the Saudi or Pakistani funds which are supposed to have funded 9/11, the legal defense funds for the hapless kids who fired the churches in Alabama, the donations from paramilitary Christians to pay for Tim McVeigh’s fertilizer, the tax exemption Pat Robertson gets for the Learjet he uses to visit his slave-operated African diamond mines, the money Abramoff sent to settlers to train and arm West Bank militias, the ammunition boxes for so-called Buddhist Marxists in Nepal, it is all the same.
It is all the same pattern of superstitious people being convinced by outside money that violence will provide gains to their cause. Period.
Bill Richardson is a self serving, opportunistic suck-up to whichever way the popular wind blows. He doesn’t make a statement,or take a stand, before knowing there’s sufficient sentiment in said area.He and Hillary are a match made in hell if Democrats were so delusional to nominate then as presidential material. I’ve never heard Richardson state his position on the Iraq invasion/occupation.He’s very calculating, and knows to keep his mouth shut as long as there’s no heat on him to take a stand.Obviously, this position regarding Lieberman is a no brainer. He does have New Mexico’s version of(a gentler and kinder) Karl Rove on staff.
John,
Oh, come on, man. I looked into Bill Richardson’s eyes and saw……? I think I saw……?
smugness?
Did anyone here do this evening’s Whiskeybar?”
“This is like a scene from a bar fight, where one of the pugilists first makes sure his friends have a good strong hold of him, and then starts yelling “Let me at him!”
Ehud Olmert’s office said late Friday that the expanded incursion into Lebanon would continue “for the time being,” despite agreeing to a cease-fire resolution drafted by the United Nations Security Council.
Senior Israel Defense Forces officers said that the IDF is “continuing forward at full power. . . “
This, of course, is 100% kosher bullshit — nobody in their right mind would start a major offensive at “full power” knowing full well it will all have to be shut down within 48 or at most 72 hours. So it looks like the big push was just a big fraud all along — a desperate attempt by Olmert and his bedraggled colleagues to try to kick a little dust in the eyes of their domestic constituents. But the message — “Yeah, boy, if they had’na stopped me I would have kicked Hizbullah’s ass but good — isn’t very original or at this point even slightly believable.”

Can we all chip in to get this guy a new wig?
Hola, todos!
If you haven’t hit the FDL tip-jar lately, you’ll want to.
If you haven’t got cbl’s friendly http://windcatpond.blogspot.com bookmarked yet, you’ll want to.
BECAUSE
If you haven’t seen this (and its graphic) yet, YOU’LL WANT TO.
Here we gooooooooooooooo — WOOHOO, MORE FIREDOGS ON THE WAY!
OK, now for a few hours of trying to catch up with you lot already here. Got my pockets fulla Purina, good-to-go . . .
lotus,
just visited your wonderful blog.
earthotterbrook
airhawkcloud?
‘Tain’t my wonderful blog, ET, ’tis cbl’s, God bless her!
lotus @ 337
OK. But is Gov. Richardson’s hair real? Actually, he looks sort of dark, swarthy, questioning of ? Maybe his unreal hair is really a dreaded HAIRBOMB!!!!!!
RUN!
Sorry, ET, I’m a leetle muzzy yet, and busy setting up all the other four windowsful of FDL I gotta catch up on, so please forgive me if my ripostes seem dullish here.
Oh, I saw your response to Leon’s poem the other day and replied. If you never got back there, I said something like, “Glad you liked it — dunno how much musicality you got to work with there, but I do love the howl behind the last line” (something close to that).
Good Morning FDL! I’ve got Kona coffee brewing this morning and contemplating sausage and cheese biscuits for breakfast.
yes, that’s one VERY bad wig…take it from someone who can spot a toupee at 50 yards….
beard5, you good-looking Renaissance man, you — top o’ the morning!
I think I could do with some Kona today, and when those biscuits are ready, you won’t hafta call me twice. Thank you!
Hey, medaka, whatcha enjoying for cocktail hour today, hon?
Hiya Lotus, the biscuits should be ready in about half an hour.
Oh, and thank you for posting the article links earlier, you saved me from posting them.
Lotus, beard5, Medaka et alia–a hearty good morning from Maine. I’ve just put a bowl of my PLUMS on the table. They’re sortof spicy tasting–like cloves, and will dribble down your chin and onto the keypad, so be careful….
Mornin’ pups.
Caffeine…..[aimless wandering around with
a coffee mug, Wally-like]….
Oh yeah, second that on the cbl site. Haven’t seen the graphic yet. Moseying on over.
Hope was asking if I was around yesterday. Fell asleep early, jet lag. When is she taking off for Deutschland?
I still want to know what we can and cannot take onboard.
Welcome to OS and her plums, oooooo . . .
lotus @ 344
Hiya, lotus! Tonight it’s a white Macon-Villages, a cheap one, chilled enough so that I can’t tell how cheap it was ….
Editing photos and writing textile descriptions like a madman. Need to take a break and eat: sashimi, rice, seaweed, maybe stir-fry some okra and moroheya …
Hey, I bet no one out there knows about moroheya, huh? I tried googling it a while back, no results in English, though I imagine it may be known by another name in the west. Or not? Anyway, it’s kind of a leaf vegetable, leaves on stems, it gets sticky like okra when cooked, and is supposed to have originated in Egypt. Loaded with vitamins and minerals. Mmmm …. I should snap a photo to see if any FDLers know it …
oh, OS! P L U M S !!! Woohoo, you lucky gal!
ET–didn’t know you were here too, from eastern Maine to AK–hiya
my eyes feel like piss-holes in the snow
And don’t forget to pass the plums to Eegee! Morning Egregious…
Hi greegy!
Lessee, Hopie’s in San Antonio (Central time, right?) and said her momma’s flight was to land at 3:30 this morning, with her own takeoff 6 hours later, so . . .
I’m a-thinking she’s off in about 3 hours now. But it never hurts to check my math.
Twolf1–cool cucumber slices on the eyes help……..and, magically, from the garden to your eyes…..
Ooh, good sounding meal Medaka. And here’s a cuppa joe, Egregious. OS, plums…mmmm, somewhere around here I have a recipe for a sweet, sage flavored butter cake, that goes well with carmelized plums.
(It’s either in a Martha Stewart cookbook*, or in the Cake Bible by Rose Levy Bernbaum)
*recieved as a gift, she scares me.
The idea that Bush could travel across the country without a full contingent of reporters, especially in the middle of a war, highlights a major cultural shift in the presidency and the news media.
Back in a flash after some viddles, y’all, though if we get EPU’d, you know I’ll get all-quiet-like, when you wide-awake koffee-kids start going at it seriously with yer usual Saturday morning gusto ….
Here’s to safe travels for Hope, and a blessed reunion with Dr Turtle who I hope (*g*)will soak up a little bit of peace and power and protection from the FDL pupsters through our Hope Springs A Turtle (whose name I just LOVE).
Twolf, I saw that. Weren’t the Republicans the ones that complained about the private fundraising that Clinton did? Gah, the hypocrisy spilleth over.
medaka, you and your supper come sit by me. Sounds nummalicious!
Hey, you sticking around for Pull Up A Chair to spread us some Japanese-cuisine love today? The thread stay open extra hours in case you gotta crash and come back to us later, btw. Maybe today’s the big day Kimba will drop by to favor us with some Italiana too!
Beard, that sage flavoured butter cake sounds unusual and enticing…thanks for reading cookbooks, whether our beloved Martha or anyone else…can caramalized plums, well let’s just say I hope a whole bunch of them ripen at the same time and push comes to shove in the kitchen….LOL
A CAKE bible……..I may have to start baking again!!!!!
beard5 – I like how it’s brushed off as a cultural shift.
OS, you and your whole life come sit by me too, hon! I do declare, you lib in heb’n.
(((((Hope)))))
NYT Magazine/Matt Bai
“In the aftermath of the primary, Democrats settled on the idea that Lieberman fell because of his support for the Iraq war. This was technically true, in the same way that a 95-year-old man might technically be said to die from pneumonia….first major victory for a larger grass-roots movement. While that movement is identified with young, online activists, it is populated largely by exasperated and ideologically disappointed baby boomers.”
Yep, dat would be me. [Egr bold.]
..and now for something completely different…

Nuh-huh, greegy 365, we’re outed.
For the life of me, I don’t understand how those two 5’s got onto my birthday cake. I feel young and energetic. Maybe righteous anger is good for the soul.
That plus my new walks through the forest every day, for both health and sanity, maybe make the difference.
WOW, twolf. Just WOW.
Wouldn’t you know, medaka goes off to eat just when we need a translator!
Love that duck and (what I’m gonna call a) reindeer!
Just no end of the ways humans think up to be creative and delightful, wot?
Twolf, those are great! Fantastic find from you.
Righteous anger IS good for the soul along with righteous laughter, which ought to precede and follow its expression. Open us all to the humor, dear goddess, that we may move forward on the path to peace and justice for all.
And yes, my sense of optimism is always connected to how much walking I do–it’s the fresh air, the bird song, greeting of neighbors and waving to passing cars, and the joggling of the Liver, great filter and moderator of the physical body!! Which is why we have to be careful we don’t abuse it, too badly.
I’m comin’ across all kind of cool stuff this AM. Tryin’ not to face the real world.
Oh, and biscuits are out of the oven. I tossed in some fresh rosemary since, well, darned near anything tastes better with rosemary. (yes, it even works in peach butter, and muffins)
Old Sow, the Cake Bible is one of my prized cookbooks, I’ll just pick it up for reading. Serious scientific method™ going on there, and I haven’t had a single recipe fail from it. Even Julia can’t claim that record. (Though she was a great writer, and truly conveyed her love of good food.)
twolf: WOW.
OS thx for the plums. I read somewhere that French women keep thin partly by eating way more fruit than we do. Keeps energy up and is nutritious besides. Plus they move around while we might decide to sit. Ahem. Just getting up.
Beard5 thx for coffee. Did you say there might be sausage and cheese biscuits? :D
Checking the timestamps. We really are around the clock these days.
twolf, keep em coming.
This IS the real world.
greegy, you puppy you. In a few weeks, my 5 gonna hafta welcome a 9, which “amuses” me no end . . .
Actually, I’ve long (I mean long — since childhood) had a theory that we each have a “quintessential age” — that, no matter whether the calendar says you’re younger or older than that, your you-ness is exactly and always that age.
When I was a teener, I felt that I was really 27. Now I’m still really 27, gray hair and crinkly eyes notwithstanding. My momma was always 8, my pa always 50 . . .
TWolf–yeah those are cool…and why the heck NOT avoid the BADS, which is what I call the news, from time to time. As the old saw goes, Man cannot live by bread alone…and it’s so true. I opened antiwar dot com and after perusing the first few headlines, decided I’d rather be here among friends before taking up my share of our collective bag of sorrows.
Beard, I’m sure you’ve read MFK Fisher, speaking of being among friends………
here’s some virtual-reality time-lapse thingamajiggies

And then there’s the miracle of being reborn through the menopause. I feel like I’ve shed my old skin (and don’t I wish at 56 that I still had the skin of a teenager–lol) and I am enjoying the opportunity to reshape my habits and energies with the (alleged) wisdom of experience and contemplation of life lived so far…….
Oh mercy, beard5’s biscuits, OS’s plums, twolf’s doggies rampant: life is good this morning.
Old Sow, I have a strange story about MFK Fisher.
I used to be a cataloger at a University Library, and I got introduced to her writing by a fellow cataloger. A couple months later her book Sister Age came through, and I pointed this out to her, and thanked her for introducing me to MFK.
She had *no* idea what I was talking about, she’d never heard of MFK. Strangest damned thing, I have no clue at all who introduced me to such great writing, but I’ll always associate MFK with that other cataloger.
…or reborn through many-paws. when you realize you have too many pets! ;)
Menopause, many-paws … it’s all good!
Here’s a little Ze Frank fer ya
Twolf, lol, and thanks for ALL those great links. But in our house it would be many-claws (we have only one parrot, merfiful heavens!)
errr–merCiful
Dunno, OS, but somehow merfiful speaks to me . . .
Twolf, good commentary by ZeFrank, I’d never heard of him. I don’t know if folks saw This yesterday, or not. But it amused a few folks on my friends list.
Heh, OS, I’m doing the calligraphy from the Wycliffe translation of the bible, if you use the long ’s’ (which I do) merfiful is perfectly correct.
(That scroll I finished Thursday, (picture coming in a couple weeks) had an unfortunate looking pairing of words, ’summer sun’ looks like ‘fummer fun’)
And to a little upful news commentary from LA

OS, how fun is that Rosa B? WOOT!
Or should I fay Rofa B?
Oh, I love the comment “McGovernite Party” I’ll have to dig up my McGovern pins and put them together with my Muskie and Udall pins. (okay, and Mondale, Paul Simon, and Kennedy ‘80 pins)
Wish I could find my “I Go Pogo” pin!
lotus @ 361
Oh, I should figure something Japonaise out, huh? My problem with recipes is typical — I don’t measure and I don’t write anything down, and I only use what I have on hand ….
I’d just LURVE me some new Italiana from Kimba, though — I’ll be sure to surf the CHAIR thread deep this time, maybe contribute late, at the very end?
LOL Lotus! If curious this is what I’m working on (bear in mind the text is a little less than 1/8th of an inch tall)
…For example, Hands off the Internet sounds like activists wanting to protect the Internet. Actually, it’s a telecommunications industry-backed organization that was spending $20,000 a day on television commercials aimed at eliminating long-standing net neutrality protections so that telephone and cable companies can maximize profit and minimize competition on the Internet.

Unbelievable. You don’t know what you are talking about. The Governor of New Mexico before Governor Richardson was a Republican. Sen. Pete Domenici is a Republican. Rep. Heather Wilson is a Republican. Rep. Steve Pearce is a Republican.
The fact is, Bill Richardson has served New Mexico well for many years, as a true Democrat. He did not exactly have control over his father’s employment situation. He has served this Nation admirably. What, he is not supposed to work with Kissinger? Why not? Because he is a Republican?
You are not only misinformed, your comments are totally inappropriate.
matrix is ping pong cool, very creative.
uhhhh… should read: matrix ping pong is cool, very creative.
Medaka…..what fun…..
And with jere’s comment, a return to the thread…..morning jere
beardy, please pass twolfie the cawfee . . . (and then me).
Good morning, jere.
Gotta run and do some errands, be back later.
I leave you with this classic:

Actually, there’s a whole lot of easily available household chemicals that will explode under the right (wrong) circumstances. Not to get FDL’s personal NSA staff all antsy, but they’ve been changing the composition of nail polish removers, because concentrated acetone has blown up a few nail salons where they stored the drum too near the furnace, just to give one example.
The speculation I heard was that the latest band o’ tee-roar-rists were carrying something like acetone (thus the ban on liquids & gels) that was to be “sparked” with batteries (thus the bans on laptops & other electronics).
But what I haven’t seen explained — why is Heathrow taking BOOKS away from passengers? Do they think Muslim suicide-bombers will refuse to board without their Korans?
Seriously — books? I knew our own American Talibangelicals have the deepest suspicion of literacy in all its forms, but how the heck do the Brits believe you can take down a plane with a paperback? Even a very thick, very badly written paperback with a salacious cover?
twolf1 @ 409
YEAH! VALHALLA I AM COMING!!!
OS 403, glad to see that too (what took ‘em so long?). Didn’t I see — via Hugh, maybe — some polling-data from Haaretz yesterday that sorta accorded with this piece? I just zoomed by it, meaning to get back to it, but of course haven’t yet.
Anyhow, it reminded me that I’ve been meaning to ask: what’s come of “lo” around here, anybody know?
you know wha?
I have always said that lieverman was part of their plan, a judas sheep…that his very purpose was to siphon off democrat resources
this campaign he has the nerve to condone, actually endorsed by dick cheney himself, endorsed by bush himself, endorsed by rush, hannity and coulter
CAN THERE BE ANY DOUBT?
they had a goldmine in joe, not only was he siphoning off our resources, he was also a mole telling them our strategy, what we were planning in the democratic party
and then when they needed a vote they called in the ticket
and when they needed to make it look like oposing them was extreme, they called in the ticket
THIS MAN HAS BEEN A REPUBLICAN and ne needs to be TOSSED OUR OF THE DEMOCRAT PARTY ON HIS TRAITOROUS ASS.
rove, bush and cheney are SO FUCKKING BRAZEN to trot uut their “if you’re against him you’re for terrorism” crap
RIGHT IN OUR FACES
what FUHRIGGIN NERVE!
this is BIZZARE…we need the democratic party to start acting AGGRESSIVELY, and MAKING IT CLEAR THAT VOTING FOR REPUBLICANS IS A VOTE FOR TERRORSIM
we need to give it back to them HARD, and we need to EMBARRAASS ANOYONE who MAKES BELIEVE this administration has a FRIGGIN MILITARY CLUE
Oh yeah: 707 for Annie Laurie! Thanks, AL, we needed that!

BUT, if you find a source for amanuenses, please send the link.)
From Haaretz
Public believes IDF not winning the war
By Yossi Verter
“Most Israelis do not buy Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s declaration that Israel is winning its war against Hezbollah, and most also oppose expanding the ground operation in Lebanon, as the cabinet decided in principle to do on Wednesday, a Haaretz poll has found….”
Morning lotus, yes, Hugh linked to the above Haaretz poll yesterday, along with his always astute observations. I think the poll results indirectly suggests that the Israeli’s were under intense pressure from DeadEye and Rummy to start a proxy war against Syria. Their aggressiveness in Lebanon certainly isn’t coming from their population.
As to “lo,” haven’t seen her for awhile.
This is just a drive-by for me, catch you and everyone else on a later thread.
I appreciate what you’re saying in this post, Jane, but I didn’t read that Richardson statement as strong in the least. They are all sitting on their hands in the corner like 9th graders at a high school prom.
My view is that the Lamont didn’t win because CT activists stood up and asked the Party to do it–the activists took it. And now–it is also the job of the CT activists to stand up and get Lieberman out. And we can all continue to help.
But the Senate Dems are never going to do anything because we ask.
I look to you folks to push out Lieberman…again–creatively, and decisively.

Morning, morning crew. Beard5 — pass the coffee (I’l have a plum also if I may, OS).
I am back in my own little house with mys son snuggled next to me and watching Blue’s Clues. I did a good job on my article, but still have a ways to go. I did check in one esterday’s morning thread, but I missed everything else (even Donita :~( and The Spin I’m In) But, I gather Lieberman is continuing his madness and mendacity tour of ‘06?
Richardson is currently the head of the Democratic Governor’s Association. I assume his comments are directly related to that group’s concensus.
HEY and welcome home, imm!
Yes, you gather correctly re Joey Two-Times … but ever so much more satisfyingly re imm Jr, eh?
How much more “finish” d’ya figure the article needs? Well done for getting the majorest chunk of it down and good.
Thanks, John C!
Hey hey pals! Here come da yum!
Here we go, and good morning Immanentize, one cuppa joe. (not lieberman, dang, he’s ruined a perfectly nifty synonym for coffee)
T-Yum! How are you and yours?
Hi imm!. I’m here with the kids, and all is well. We finally got some rain–it was turning into a killing summer–and I’m playing this afternoon. Gotta clean today.
Glad to hear your

Back to work, slave! Just joking :)
Flap my big lips backatcha, tomster!

I appreciate the need to throw some love at BR. You did the right thing. I’m just getting crabbier than I’ve been in a long time with this. I have a ‘Lieberman Grabs Holocaust By the Hair, Drags It Kicking And Screaming Into CT Election’ piece sitting on my desk and I don’t want to put it up on the site–but I am ‘this close’ to doing it.
And it goes without saying, but I’ll say it anyway. From all the readers at Frameshop: Thank you SO MUCH for all you’ve done in this CT race. FDL has been great–better than great: historic–from start to finish.
(A Dem city chair gave me one of those pins while I was holding a sign on ‘visibility’ duty at a Middle School on Tuesday…and I was offered $20 bucks for it in Meriden that night! Talk about political capital. I kept the pin. )

if richardson is a true democrat then we are in bigger trouble than i thought!!!

maybe you should ask the native americans that were fucked with gop election tricks in oo and o4 about richardson… did he help them? did he make sure they had enough working voting machines? no.
you are, of course, allowed you own opinion (something you evinently don’t afford me (hmmm??)), but not your own set of facts.
i suppose you know more than GREG PALAST??
Unfortunately, this is far, far from over.
The first post-primary Rasmussen poll came out, showing Lieberman leading Lamont 46-41%. See it here.
So much for Lieberman not having a viable Independent candidacy. Looks like with a number like that to start out, he will have every reason to stay in the race to the finish.
Juan del Llano @

Juan, doesn’t Richardson have a “Zipper problem”?
Al Franken, a man with sentimental ties to Lieberman, on Friday said that it was time for Joe to go.
Will Max Cleland be dragging himself back to CT to declaim that Joe’s victimization was the same thing Saxby Chambliss did to him? Cleland is the biggest jerk of all the Joe supporters.
I just love him and sent him the email thank you…hey folks send this to your state senator or appropriate person regarding this latest smear from CNN…another apology due for real.
Dear Demo office holder:
Recently on CNN a remark was made about your fellow Democrat Ned Lamont who is running for senate as the choice of Democrats in the state Conneticut and I quote:
“Is Ned Lamont the Al Qaeda candidate?”
This was the question that CNN’s Nice Haircut Chuck Roberts posed yesterday afternoon to Hotline’s John Mercurio.
He followed it up with, say it with me, “… as some have said … “
This continues to be a “swift boat” style smear campaign by the MSM for a Democrat I support running for congress and the efforts on my part to have the Democrats retake congress from the current Republican insanity.
I demand that you stand up for our party and confront this immediately and involve other office holders in our party to stop this.
Below are my reasons that the Bush administration and his cohorts in congress have failed on terrorism and refuse to hear that 60% of this country opposes a failed war in Iraq.
Republicans will not secure our ports from terrorists.
Republicans will not secure air cargo from terrorists.
Republicans will not secure our boarders from terrorists.
Republicans will not secure our chemical and nuclear facilities from terrorists.
Republicans will not investigate Saudis.
Republicans will not investigate 9/11.
Republicans will not unite our respect our allies.
Republicans will not listen to terror or intel experts that don’t espouse their ideology.
Republicans have sabotaged US intelligence agents.
Republicans have united and inflamed our enemies as never before.
Republicans have blatantly exploited terror for political gain.
Republicans have blatantly exploited terror for profit.
Republicans have made us far more dependent on oil from terror-supporting regimes.
Republicans have diverted our military away from real terror targets.
Republicans have discarded valuable anti-terror assets for pure ideological reasons.
Aside from Bush rapidly withdrawing US troops from Saudi Arabia, giving Bin Laden exactly what he wanted from the 9/11 attacks, the Republicans have done more damage to the US economy, to US citizens, to the US military, to US relations around the world, and to the US Constitution than with any other partner Bin Laden could have ever hoped for – bar none!
Republicans have failed to get universal radios for first responders.
Republicans have cut anti-terror funding to NY and DC.
Republicans have cut funding to police departments and firefighters.
Republicans tried to sell control of our ports to a regime that aided 9/11.
Republicans monitor Americans who oppose their ideology as terrorist threats.
Republicans use anti-terror tactics on American citizens instead of on terrorists.
Republicans have divulged classified information for political gain that prevented British authorities from stopping massive terror attacks on their trains.
Republicans have turned contained non-terrorist threats into dangerously unleashed terrorist threats.
Republicans LET BIN LADEN GET AWAY!!!
Help Save us…Thank you!!
Not to be a party pooper, but Bill Richardson is opportunism distilled to azeotropic purity.
For example, Bill Richardson was the guy who let Wen Ho Lee be tossed into a dark hole and threatened with execution for espionage on the say-so of a Free Republic crackpot.
Bill Richardson was supported by major elements of the Republican Party in his first run for governor. He gutted the education trust so he could cut taxes.
Bill Richardson had no problem with having one of the highest (if not the highest) vote spoilage rate in the nation. All concentrated on the Indian Rez and Hispanic precincts.
Bill Richardson is a very nice guy. To Anglos, he’s an Anglo. To Latinos, he’s a Mexican. To Democrats, he’s a Clinton cabinet member. To Republicans, he’s a sincere supporter of the Death Star and energy pork.
Celebrate if you wish, but Joe Liebermans are the advanced stage of Bill Richardsons.
i agree…
richardson has to go, along with all the other dlc cronies. unless and until we clean our own house, the karmic wheel won’t turn.

Karen Allen,
Thank you so much for putting me out of my misery. I have been trying for two days to recall the cartoon dog that HoJo reminds me of. Droopy, or course, Droopy. He talks just like Droopy. What a relief.
To comment at #299…another take on the reason
why…the United States for much of the 20th
century was a serial meddler in Central and
South American politics,militarism and economic
matters. It was not uncommon for the locals to
suffer the wrath of “Uncle Yankee” should they
not stay inside the “lines” of American desires
and interests. With the Monroe Doctrine the
USA had early on fenced out the Europeans from
doing the same. CA and SA were essentially
American “toy” boxes. The Middle East seemingly
is now coming in for this same type of format.
Minus the Cold War Soviet presence and a still
not fully formed Chinese international engage-
ment in Middle East affairs the Americans are
playing their trump cards hard and fast. The
Palestinians and now also the Lebanese getting
the hard fist of American “enlightenment” on
democracy and subjugation. Israel of course is
riding this for all its worth. Israels land
grabs and subjugtion practices easily would
have fit the “westward ho” thinking of 19th
century Americans. The PNAC flag carriers
seeminly seek another “pax americana” not
unlike the one CA and SA have endured for well
over a century. The big ? then becoming can
the Americans and their Israeli attack dogs
spray enough bullets and shrapnel around to
intimidate enough Arabs and Persians to toe
the line? Imperialism is nasty business.
The Americans evidently now having decided to
leave the middle ground and attempt to
win on brutality and intimidation usage. It
is bad business and the American MSM is
sadly treating it like some sort of Spanish-
American War. The hangover is going to be
terrible from all this misplaced militarism
and cultural ignorance.
