Sure….but that cuts both ways. I’ve no problems with criticsms of Lieberman, especially since he’s clearly so out of touch that it suggests he has communication problems internally as well as with his constituents.

I was just struck, though, at how ineffective everyone concerned with the Lieberman campaign was. It should have been a cakewalk for him and it wasn’t. Speaking as someone who has spent a life in these and similar waters, when things go as badly as they did, everyone becomes suspect.

My only point about Jane’s post was that we don’t know who was responsible for what, so defense and/or personal criticism need to take a back seat to more generalized judgements – i.e. the whole campaign was awful.

Considering how much money Lieberman has at his disposal, the lack of imagination, the lack of appropriate resources (e.g. website, net communications, bandwidth etc.) etc. everyone there deserves some measure of blame.

Trying to slam Lieberman once again on some sort of character level because he rid himself of the staff that accompanied him to a humiliating defeat seems gratuitous. Can’t we just blame him for being a narcissistic, Shrub-loving tool without having to reach for extraneous elements in the indictment?

Shorter Vizsla: Lieberman sucks every way imaginable, but that doesn’t mean he should keep the same staff that was part and parcel of the debacle.

After all, there are many cultures where being rounded up at gunpoint, hooded, forced to strip, defecate upon yourself and wear dog collars would not be considered humiliating or degrading at all.

This is actually true. For instance, at Ann Coulter’s house, this is just called “Saturday night.”

Lieberman had to fire his current team that took him through the primary, because the next phase, the run for the general, involves him running as the Republican candidate. He’s going to be using their canvassing lists, their GOTV team to get out their voters, and the Team Republican folks who will be critical to this effort do not trust and will not abide the presence of Dem operatives of whatever stripe.

Anyway… It might be a nice idea for somebody diplomatic to get in touch with her and commiserate over the shabby treatment she is getting from Joe. She might have a few interesting war stories to relate over margaritas.

It wasn’t the panel presentations, it was the Q&A afterwards that made [Bryza, Matthew J. Deputy Assistant Secretary, Department of State, European & Eurasian Affairs] squirm like a live fish on a griddle. Others on panel were
[Verrastro, Frank, Director, Center for Strategic and International Studies, Energy Program] & [Nanay, Julia, Senior Director, PFC Energy, Russia and Caspian Service]

IMHO, EVERYONE on the panel was extremely uncomfortable at this ‘under-the-radar-appearance,’ folks.

Body-language-message: BP pipeline problem in AK is not only inexcusable & indefensible, but viewed by experts as catastrophic in its repercussions.

Maybe I’ve unintentionally exaggerated.

On the other hand, panel mbrs seemed in agreement re:
#1)EXTENSIVE corrosion problems in HUGE (main? all?) pipeline(s) serving biggest oilfield in the world (Prudhoe Bay North Slope AK) (scope of problem as yet not completely revealed)
#2)DECADES of lax control measures (e.g., NEVER checking pipelines for corrosion, NEVER even taking measures now required elsewhere for controlling corrosion,
#3)NEVER reporting problems or possibilities thereof before,
#4 ad infinitum) ????????????????

Not too great leap on my part, since admitted by panel mbrs:
Problems developed to this point BECAUSE all that measuring, checking, controlling & reporting has NOT been REQUIRED by law, but simply voluntary. Therefore, BP, not being required to do anything, … didn’t.
[unless you count millions spent for ads assuring us how “green” they are]

This is how I understood the Q&A & the visibly squirming ‘experts’ called upon to answer the questions.
