Ned Lamont won the Democratic primary in Connecticut this evening. Joe Lieberman lost.
Joe Lieberman is on C-Span right now thumbing his nose at the Democratic voters and the Democratic party, and announcing his run independent from the party. He’s saying he wants to "unite not divide." This speech is right out of the Karl Rove playbook. Word on the street in Connecticut is that Lieberman will be running as an independent with Republican backing. Any doubts that his loyalty first and foremost is to Joe Lieberman, whatever it takes?
The question is: where will the DSCC and the party leadership be on this tomorrow? They had better be out in front and supporting the winner of the Democratic primary.
Jane called to say that Ned Lamont will be down to speak shortly. Here’s hoping that Democrats with some level of respect for their party, and with a healthy respect for the voters in the state of Connecticut, have a strong word with Joe Lieberman between now and tomorrow morning.
Jane will have much more soon…

Ned!
Zed?
NED!!!
Luberman loses!!!!
A harrowing victory, for a wonderful man.
Congratulations, NED!
Roots and NEd what a wonderful world it is tonight!
The web is freaky busy tonight!
GO NED
Woohoo! Good riddance, Holy Joe!
Clear from Joe’s speech that is an arrogant a–hole and very much a Republican
JOE IS SUCH A TURNCOAT, SORE LOSER.
YES! NED WINS!
NEDRENALINE!!!!
Thank you FDL’ers and the folks in the great state of Connecticut! I have hope again!
NED!
I’m speechless! I’m speechless! I’m speechless!
YES!
Joe: Patheti-sad.
Cspan rocks for covering this.
Yeah Ned! The Bareti luck never fails!
Congrats to Ned, to all the netroots who worked so hard in CT! You guys are great!
HoJo’s speech was so disgusting. Such self-serving lies!
Yes! Yes! Yes!
Whatever Loserman says tonight, there is still a lot of time before the actual election for him to drop out. So until then, I’m still betting he pulls out.
Congrats to Lamont and all you who helped him get there.
KAZUZA
Bartender, another round for the entire house, and it’s on me of course!
OH FRABJOUS DAY!!!!
(I coulda been first, but I was over at ActBlue sending more $$ Ned’s way.)
Tweety earlier much earlier…said that he guessed Lierman would be elected as an independent.
Run Ned Run!
quite a contrast between the folk backing Ned and the all-white crowd on stage with Lieberman …
Man, does Ned have class here, compared to puss-face.
When Joe’s site is “unhacked” he will still remain unhinged.
EPU’d-Maybe we can borrow some “Sore Loserman” signs from John Bolton?
Everybody Wang Chung Tonight!
Well, it’s about frickin’ time that the good guy won an election.
And Lieberman’s pathetic post-election display just further justifies why it was important for Joe to be challenged. What a turd he is.
And to think I voted for him in 2000. Yechhh.
In 2003 I wrote 50 Ways To Dump The Dubya.
When Howard Dean became Chairman of the DNC I thought to myself “That makes it 49 ways.”
Tonight it became 48 ways to go.
Sleep well tonight friends, we got a fight in the morning.
May the Love that knows no Comprehension find refuge in your hearts and in your homes forever.
I’m tearing up, here.
Ack!
WOOHOO! Great job everyone, especially the Man of the Hour, Ned Lamont!
*group hugs all around*
Wowie. Sounds like Ned is getting his sea legs. :)
HE IS ROCKIN’ DA HOUSE.
quite a contrast between the diverse folk backing Ned and the all-white crowd on stage with Lieberman …
THANK YOU, CONNECTICUT!
Congrats Ned and all the firepups!
Oh, my. What a night. The family thinks I’ve gone round the bend. Well, mahzeltov to Ned Lamont, and on to November!
I wanted a blowout, but I’ll take this. And don’t forget, Chris was right. Tomorrow is going to be a bad day for press coverage. They are going to have to GET OVER IT.
Can you feel the Joementum? It’s headed straight for the deck!
Yeehah!
And over at dKos, they’re saying Joe is going indy and needs to be kicked off his nice cushy committee seats also.
What a night!
LAMONT!!!!!!!!!
Did Lieberman actually just say, “Go to my website, when it is un-hacked“?
Even after it’s essentially been proven that it was from his own teams gross incompetence? That one needs to get hammered and hammered and hammered again to illustrate what a worthless waste he is.
And Ned thanks Joe. Lovely man, just lovely.
Al Gore should go to work on Loserman, get him to give it up and support Lamont.
Hey, I just saw TRex dancing around like a crazed man on CSpan! Hee hee!
What a fabulous early Xmas present!! Thank you FDLers, one and all!!
Mocha Dem @ 32
Oh Yeah!
I love the Stones music in the background of Liebermans camp. “You make a grown man cry!”
How utterly f*ing appropriate! LOLOL
Kudos to all my brother & sister patriots who worked for and voted for Next Senator Lamont. Folks like Missy’s Brother who said ‘noway nohow will I let the counters steal this one rank with those who dumped the tea in Boston Harbor.
But let’s report the outcome as it is: America defeated George Bush tonight. And finally we’ve spread real democracy…. to the USA!
Notice how Fox news stopped coverage of Lamont once he went afer Bush?
This is beautiful. Bartender? A round for the house!
Oh shit this is geting good.
Democrats will be up all night hashing this out.
Joe’s money trail needs to be published early and often.
got to go
My head is spinning.
Go Ned!!! Democrats Unite!!!
fucking A!! all my tequila and beer drinking this evening paid off!!!
The first step in a revolution. The winds of change have started blowing and the amazing people of FDL are but one blade on the fan. What’s next?
Thank you all!
We all did this…
and it feels great
Awww, thanking Maxine. Look at her beaming. I do believe she’s having the time of her life!
America, Fuck YEAH!
Maybe Lieberman hired Ted Stevens internet guys?
Congratulations, Jane, Christy, and all the hard workers! Way to go!
*happy sigh*
Thank you so much, Jane and everyone else. This is the best thing to happen all year.
I think Joe may have just delivered the most ungracious “concession” speech of all time.
I not only don’t want to see Dems campaigning for the Connecticut For Lieberman party (spits), I want to see them actively campaigning *against* him.
dogeatdogi @ 3
Hey dogi – RGJoe snatches humiliation from the jaws of defeat.
Give him 48 hours – see if any Dem Senator backs him!
Congrats to Ned, and all who worked so hard. It’s celebratory pizza time!
Joe can’t be unhacked. He’s the living embodiment of “HACK”.
I was listening to C-Span and a caller stated that he remembered the debates between Loserman and Lowell Weichart (sp) and Loserman promised that he would not seek any more than three terms as Senator. If that is true, someone needs to go to the video and ask Loserman why he is also Liarman.
The “common good”?!!!!
Ned is talking about the common good.
Yikes.
When was the last time you heard that in the mainstream of American politics?
The man sounds positively presidential. I feel like I’m watching The West Wing.
hmmm…Tom Swan as Josh…Jane as Donna…
Congratulations America.
And way to go, FDL! Thank you, FDL. Thank you, Ned Lamont. Thank you, Connecticut.
The future’s so bright, you gotta wear shades. :-)
Wow!
Here’s hoping there’s more like this to come. The Washington establishment — political AND media — must have the cold sweats right about now, and it’s long overdue.
And kudos to Lamont, but a big portion of the credit for this victory needs to go to you all here.
*doffs cap*
MOST EXCELLENT!
C-span and NED is such a classy man. Maxine and everybody. OMG, this is just too much. I’m about to sob. What a relief. God, he’s such a breathe of fresh air!!!!
Congrats to all!!!
If Joementum announces he is running as an independent Harry Ried should strip him of all his committee assignments within 24 hours.
Did Ned thank the bloggers?
/just kidding.
You know I knew Lieberman was scum, but it just broke my heart listening to him turn on the party like that. I’m stunned. I can’t believe it.
So happy for Ned, and I am prepared for the fight ahead. And it will be a fight, don’t any of you doubt it.
Go NED!
Go Neadheads!
GO VOTERS!

And for three-term Senator Lieberman:
(from previous thread)
Drink up! Tomorrow we have to start beating Joe all over again.
There are two bits of good news here:
* A progressive won a primary over the establishment candidate, and he has a good chance to win the general.
* Joe Lieberman has left the Democratic Party.
EPU’d…
“Power to do good is the true and lawful end of aspiring”
-Francis Bacon
The lesson for all Americans is simple: if you don’t like where the country is going, you can change the course. If the people of Connecticut can force out a man of Lieberman’s fame, stature, and power, then anyone can do it anywhere. It’s in our power.
Jane and Christy–fairly or unfairly, power is going to be coming to you as a result of this. For our country’s sake don’t be shy in taking and using it. It is a true and lawful end.
Don’t forget a big shoutout to the Democratic voters of Connecticut. It all came down to them.
msnbc – “lieberman still has a lot of support among activist democrats”
???
“I’m Ned Lamont and I approve this message!!!”
I swear to God I’m in tears.
I have called two of Harry R’s offices, and exprssed myself in no uncertain (but still polite) terms to encourage Joe to abandon his general election run.
Do the same. Time to put the squeeze on. Phone calls matter.
And, once again, my respect for all you ground soldiers in the war for reality-based politics is inexpressable. I love you people. You have restored a very worried patriot’s hope.
Hugs and kisses to all of you. You are my Gods and Goddesses. Thank you thank you thank you.
Dr. Rumack: I just wanted to say, good luck. We’re all counting on you.
Should be some interesting posturing going on tonight in DC cocktail weenie circuit. Would love to be a fly on the wall.
So glad I have access to FDL again. I was locked out for a looooonnnng time!
Was having withdrawal symptoms.
Damn good news, and congrats to everyone who worked so hard on the campaign.
so, been gone for three days. anything important happen?
YESSSS!!!
won’t there be a “unity breakfast” tomorrow in which the party leaders pressure Joe to support the winner of the primary?
In Manhattan, staying with friends, and the TV was on with sound down covering Lieberman. From the coverage, it looked like Lieberman won. Poured a scotch and ice, walked out on 12th floor patio, feeling down. Didn’t jump. Polished scotch, watched traffic come down 2nd and 32nd. Came back in and heard NY1 coverage: Lamont 51, Lieberman 48. WOO-HOO!!!
Much better. Thanks Jane and Christy!
What could be better than to be represented by our bunch in Connecticut?
Gratitude beyond measure Jane and crew!
Now the real work begins.
Very happy I is.
Way to go Ned!
Money will follow this victory
from me and many more.
Re-defeat Judas Joe!
WOOT!
…and it was close enough that the net roots can rightfully claim they made a difference. (Damn bloggers, get off my lawn…)
Who wants to start a pool on whether Joementum addresses the Republican National Convention in 2008?
Prairie sunshine wants to say – but is locked out of FDL:
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
- Margaret Mead
just wrote boxer and said she now needs to “fix this” with Liarman trying an independent run…
so good to see Ned!
so angry at Liarman….
Leiberman announces Independant run, just off CNN.Surprise!
put a protective coat of polyurathane on the kiss float. darn thing is going to have to make it through nasty new england weather.
If I were Joe, I’d kind of want the phony “hack” issue to go away quietly, ya know? Seeing as how it just points out his team’s dishonesty and incompetence. Just sayin’.
But if he insists on harping on it… :-)
(Long time reader, first time poster. Hello.)
punaise 84 – gas went up a little, fed didn’t raise inetrest rate. other than that, nothing comes to mind.
FUCK YEAH! HAHAHAHAHAHA!
Rejoice! We conquer!
justintime @ 43
Joe will not listen to anything Gore has to say. When Al endorsed Howard Dean he joined the ranks of the Traitors to Joe and became anathema.
Freaked-Out Canadian – The common good, eh? Sounds like Ned’s in tune with our little Roots Project!
Way to go fire pups!! First time in a long time that I’ve supported a winning candidate. What a relief!
Well, my in-depth postmortem blog analysis of the election results went something like this:
“WOOHOO!!!!”
Candy Crowlie just said “Democrat Party” and that anti war voters are fringe elements.
God, what a hack!
Beth is right — but congratulations to all in CT who worked so hard to get this result. Party on, sleep well, and thank you.
Dang! I am so excited. Good news for Lamont and the USA and thank you Jane and Christy and all y’all. Yoo Hoo!! Congratualtions all around!!
THANKS to everyone in CT who worked so hard to make this happen. Tonight, and over the last few months, you showed us how to start to take our party back.
Everyone else – let’s get busy and kick some ass!!!!
They have fucked with the wrong people. Joe is pathetic and living in how own private idaHo.
Ned embracing his family and giving a positive speech about the whole journey. The man is a class act. Republicans across the land are losing it.
Congratulations to the next Senator of CT and all the people who helped him make him the Democratic nominee.
I haven’t been able to get Firedoglake to load all evening. But I haven’t been this happy listening to poll results in this decade!
Oh and Christy, it wasn’t thumbing his nose… it was more like Scalia’s flipping the bird. Totally disrespectful and arrogant.
I’ll be calling my Senators tomorrow telling them I expect them to fall behind Lamont.
This is so exciting!
This is good news, bad news –
Excellent news that NED LAMONT won; bad news that it was a nail biter.
Good News that Joe Lieberman LOST; bad news that he intends to make an independent run.
I am not cheerful — Joe Lieberman has ALWAYS been a Stealth Republican, and the SOB still pretends to be a Democrat.
I am going into a whites-of-the-eyes mode.
Take no LieberPrisoners — take no quarter, and none is offered.
This is a death match for the survival of the country, and Joe Lieberman is THE ENEMY.
The Republicans and K-Street are ecstatic.
We are grim, in our determination to defeat ALL of them.
I’m crying right now. I’m 49 years-old and I haven’t cried in awhile, but I’m crying now.
I’m crying because tonight, for the first time in a long, long time, I see just a small glimmer of hope for the country I love.
Thank you Ned Lamont.
Thank you to everyone who believed.
Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to start taking back our country.
CNN – Rep. Cynthia McKinney of Georgia has lost her Democratic primary runoff election to foe Hank Johnson, The Associated Press reports.
Note To Media Professionals: If you are suprised at this outcome, then at least consider that your gut reactions of fear loathing and dread of we evil raving spittle-flecked bloggers might be equally misplaced. Whatever you missed before, you may either continue overlooking, or else re-examine in the light of the unexpected facts before you, despite their conflict with your pre-existing assumptions.
This has been a media service announcement from the Reality Based Community(tm).
He’s saying he wants to “unite not divide.”
Funny, that’s exactly what Bush said, back before he became the Decider.
Wow! This is truly Democracy Restoration Day (August 8th marks the 32nd Anniversary of Richard Nixon’s resignation).
Thank you! CT voters, Jane, Christi, TRex, and all the fabulous people who contributed time so that one step could be taken to re-establish the people’s democratic right of selecting their candidate, not have it chosen for them by the plutocracy.
!! Finally !!
I am writing my Senators (Boxer and Feinstein) to please support the Democratic nominee. I’ll enjoy this tonight and then back to work tomorrow to carry this start on to November.
Thank you FDL and all the volunteers (and thanks to Jamie and mods for keeping this site in pretty good shape today)
Uh, who’s the Republican opponent in the general?
The trolls are out in force calling, CSPAN.
Of course, the host gave the Rethug clown about three minutes, gave the next guy, a Dem, about 90 seconds.
And so far both Rethugs are flat-out lying about Lamont.
Did I mention that I hate these people?
Whoop! THERE IT IS!! Congratulations to Mr. Lamont, and may he kick Lieberman’s ass again come November, if it comes to that!
Joe, you say your name is carved in that Senate seat? I think the CT Dem voters have just said “hey, we have a belt sander, we can take care of that!”
twolf1 – thanks for the highlights.
and may I add:
Woooooo Hoooooooo!!!!!!!!!!
I heard Lieberman’s concession speech on the 11 o’clock news, and far from being the gracious concession speech that is customary from a losing candidate, Joe was his whiny self, and could not restrain himself from attacking Ned. (To the cheers of his loyal followers.) How he got elected senator three times is a total mystery to me. Well, maybe it’s not such a mystery, since his lobbyist friends made their presence fairly obvious in this election. Joe tried to buy the election, but this time the people said, “Enough, Joe, enough.”
Now we weld loser Joe of Conneticut to loser DeLay from
Texas. A write -in vote would be nice for Holy Joe.
“Ned Lamont won the Democratic primary in Connecticut this evening. Joe Lieberman lost. “
Just dig the beauty of that reportage. That’s all we want isn’t it ?
Congratulations to all those whose hard work has provided us all a shining example— it is not useless to try to change things.
(Wow-ee do these toobz need to be untied tonight! And add me to the ranks of fdl-ers who recently have had hard disk trouble. Fortunately, it turned out that the linux hard disk repair utilities could fix the trouble, though I’ll be a bit nervous until I can get a replacement for this hard-used 5-year old one. There’s got to be some way I can put the whole thing on Joe Lieberman or the NSA…)
If you have Democrat senators or representatives, pick up the phone tomorrow and make sure they’re going to support Lamont.
Boxer will be getting a call from me in the morning!
Uh, who’s the Republican opponent in the general?
Officially, I think it’s still Schlesinger.
De facto, it’s Joe.
…now to smite the independent Lieberloser
Hoisting my glass of Black Bush . . . ahhh, that tastes good!
Thanks, all of you – Jane and the crew in CT, Christy holding down the fort at FDL, Jamie for doing so much to keep the toobes open, and everyone else for the energy that was poured into Ned’s campaign.
Lot’s of nervous folks in DC tonight . . . lobbyists, republicans, and those who enable them.
Good work, everyone! Let’s keep them nervous. . .
So glad Ned Lamont won. But I will wait to celebrate after November. Now Ned as to fight a 2 front war. Will the unions now support Lamont? Will the CBC now support Lamont? Will the D.C. dems now support Lamont? I will believe it when I see it. They still feel that must stop Lamont or get the grassroots in the their faces and they do not want that.
Off I go to worry some more.
Whew! I can breath again.
Thank you, thank you, thank you everybody who worked so hard.
Thank you Jane and Christy and Pach and TRex and Howie and everybody else who keeps us together here at the Lake.
Question: Is there any chance Naral and PP will stay out of this part of the election since either Ned or Joey-Lie will vote for reproductive rights – - or so Joe will tell them.
Thank you again, everybody, but most of all,Thank you Ned Lamont for being who you are. Just an amazing man and an amazing candidate.
Paging Barbara Boxer……
Congratulations to everyone. You did good!
As for Joe, it takes character to lose with grace, which pretty much says it all.
Let this be a lesson to the Dems, start standing up to this President, avoiding frank criticism of the Commander in Chief benefits this country and Constitution not in the least
Start smacking back at the nonindicted Karl Rove, as last I checked his avoiding legal problems for deliberately outing Valerie Plame hasn’t set the USS GOP aright yet, which tells me that National Security is NOT going to be a winning strategy for Rove this time around
Call for restarting that CIA unit devoted to capturing or killing Usama bin Laden, and start sticking up for the same intelligence analysts this Administration treats with such open contempt
Insist that prochoice groups actually support the most uncompromising candidates in terms of protecting choice, no one who makes a comment along the lines of “it shouldn’t be more than a short walk to another hospital” should NEVER be a Dem candidate for any national level office
The loss of a bully-accomadationist type like Lieberman should send out a strong signal to the DLC-you will NOT beat the GOP by acting as GOP Lite, they don’t wish to play nice, they wish to become a permanent political majority, the GOP wishes to rule a one-party state
THAT’S what the dems need to do, they need to start holding this President and his party as accountable as possible for all the death, ruin, corporate/crony corruption and busted budgets that have occured on W’s watch
Unfortunately, I think Lieberman will try and run as an independent, and he’ll probably win
HOWEVER
I don’t think the outcome of such a venture is any kind of Lieberman slam dunk either, likely-yes, unalterable? No
Lets hope this leads to more Feingolds, Murthas, Conyers and other spine filled dems, and less “lets all play nice” W apologists like Lieberman
So far the Lieberthugs are outnumbering the Lamont supporters about 4-1 on CSPAN.
Astroturf, anyone?
But, anyway.
WOOHOOO!! Eli, does that fall under “fair use?”
I hate the rethugs.
Simone at 86 — there is a Democratic party breakfast in the morning, yes. But as Joe Lieberman has just divorced himself from the party with his independent run, he will no longer be invited — I heard this today on MSNBC from a CT Dem party official. But they’d better damn well be on the phone with him tonight and tomorrow — each and every one of them. And if he remains stubbornly sticking to the GOP can bring me victory line, they had best take care of things with as swift and painful a backlash as they can muster — otherwise, why have party leadership. Ahem.
Eli @ 124
What are the odds on a three way race?
Balz and Branigan start off their coverage of Lamont’s win by calling Lierberman defeat a “stunning” repudiation. Now, it is wonderful and it is really great, but “stunning” would imply no one saw this coming. Polls have had Joe as the u underdog. Nor, given the public disaffection regarding our current direction, should anyone find this stunning. If anything it is stunning because of the advantages of incumbency, not because Joe’s positions and behavior have made him unpalatable to his constituents. Jesus.
Kudos and deepest thanks to all who worked so hard and long for this. Thanks to the voters and thanks to Ned. Thanks to Jane and Christy and to Pach and ROOTZ and everyone who donated, served and vibed this victory to fruition.
For I had almost forgotten what this feels like – thrilling, empowered, encouraged. I’m doubling, nay tripling my efforts here in my county and state to help take our country back.
Hope all you hard-working Lamont supporters take this time to celebrate your efforts, get a little rest and then get ready – the work is not yet done!
WOOHOOO!! Eli, does that fall under “fair use?”
I’m not sure, but I’m afraid I’m not the one with the copyright…
MsAnnaNOLA @ 81
In an emergency, Go HERE….
http://windcatpond.blogspot.com/
It’s imperative Lieberman be removed from his committee assignments immediately. He just spit in the face of the Democratic Party, so let him live with it.
He could be gracious and start looking for a cushy job with his wife in the wonderful world of lobbying. But he is, as I said earlier, delusional.
Wanker, actually, is the more precise term.
Lieberman is no Dem. His Ind run is nothing but an egomanaicical charade, and he will hurt the Dems whom he says he supports. The man is out-to-lunch. His “concession” speech was a disgrace.
What are the odds on a three way race?
The last statewide (not just likely Dem primary voters) Q-Poll was something like 40-40-13 for Joe, Ned, and That Republican Guy.
I can’t wait to see the next one.
We beat the machine tonight, folks. They are powerful and they threw everything they had at us.
We got lucky in that Joe was such a suckass campaigner, but we still exploited the opportunity, and that matters.
The machine will continue to come at us with a vengeeance, so we need to fight herder, tighter, smarter from here on in.
Whatever state you are in, we need you to get to work on the ground. When Roots Project goes public with the new site, I need you to join. Hell, we all need you to join.
Let’s celebreate tonight. At this site, we took crap for pushing this Lamont campaign very early, and I even got negative email about all our deep covereage just this week. People did not believe it could be done, even here, but we did it, and you helped.
It’s a good night in America. There’s a glimmer of hope for our country, our future, our children and grandchildren.
The shit they’re going to say about you in the paters and the tee vee will get nastier, more aggressive. Don’t worry about it. Just keep working and organizing. We will overcome, we common people for the common good.
Aren’t you proud, Joe?
You’re an “Independent” now!
Yay!
Go Loserman!
McKinney loses!
Christy Hardin Smith 134 – otherwise, why have party leadership. Ahem.
And otherwise, there’s more where this came from! Do they want to keep their jobs? Hopefully this sends the message out. Mad as hell and not going to take it anymore!!
The last CSPAN call was great. Guy who said he had worked for Joe in the past, had struggled with this a long time, but finally said he had to vote for Ned, and was very angry at Joe’s concession speech.
http://www.CT4Joe.com
http://www.LieberDem.com
http://www.LiebermanForConnecticut.com
all amusing, especially now …
America was waiting for a message of some sort or another.
And America got it’s message! WTG Progressives!
Now do we all have to move to Connecticut to thwart the Sore Lieberloser in November, or are you gonna cut the shit and retire gracefull Joe?
John in Sac, Nefarious Leslie, and Donna Marie — I am having the last of our margaritas in honor of Ned and in defiance of The Wanker!
paul @ 141
Loserman was quick in advising Gore to concede in 2000.
Well done you all.
Ned is such a classy guy.
meta at 8:38 pm:
We shall see.
I coCaptain Goto @ 147
I concur…that was the best call
Oh, to be a fly on the wall, when those conversations between the Dem leadership and Holy Joe go down…
Why, the whining alone would probably shatter fine crystal.
LAMONT!!!!
just flew in fm russia. all patients ok.
WOO!! WOO!! VICTORY!!!!
Nate @

More fitting for Joe: “You make a dead man come.”
Welcome, Jo Public. Hi Punaise! And thank gawd I managed to get back in here. I was afraid “server not found” was going to burn itself into my notebook. Apparently whatever crashed the site was choosy about de-crashing it. The gnomes in the toobz are working overtime. I hope when MSNBC gets back to news it will show Ned’s acceptance speech. Otherwise, I hope there’s a Youtubes. I damn well want to dance around the room!
YEE HAW!!! No George I’m not talking about your foreign policy!
Seriously, this seems to be the biggest win progressives have had in 6 years. I can’t remember any result more significant to our cause.
It was long overdue. Next, time to get rid of all the consultants that are only good at writing concession speeches. Speaking of which, why didn’t Lieberman have one of them handy?
…so let’s be sure to remember who NOT to forgive for the second half, Big Joe
Captain Goto @ 131
Nobody but other callers watches that much because the calls are so toxic.
I had to quit watching it years ago in order to maintain my health.
Now I just watch selected Book TV segments.
Much better.
So now does Loserman become Bad Loserman?
Paul – I agree, which is why I don’t think he is going to wind up running. He just wants enough “important” people, like say B Clinton, to tell (or ask or “beg” or whatever) him he really shouldn’t run, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, to assuage his incredible non shrinking ego. That, or the reality of seeing B and C Clinton, among others, supporting Lamont – what’s Dodd gonna do now, support Joe? Not likely. He is also officially a “loser” now, and we should give that particular smell some time to resonate with other Dems who might be dawdling in this. Even repugs have to be careful, since they could easily piss off many Dem’s who voted for Joe in the primary – not all, but certainly enough to get Lamont elected.
Till today, no one had to face the reality of Joe the loser, which gave a lot of wiggle room if not courage. That doesn’t exist anymore for anyone. And that’s bad for Joe and good for us, CT and the country.
egregious!! welcome home!! thank you for everthing you’ve done. egregious ROCKS!!
Uh, who’s the Republican opponent in the general?
Osama Bin Bush.
what DUMB FUCKS the LieberWebbys are! Guess who now owns this domain?
http://www.SoreLooserman.com
stop me before I purchase again !
Joe actually said “I want to unite, not divide.”
What, he’s saving the bit about being a compassionate conservative for tomorrow?
Nah, he needs a break before the general campaign…I think he said something about clearing brush in Stamford.
Oh, and Carl Cameron says that the only people who voted for Ned were the elite intelligensia who weren’t used to burning shoe leather. Yeah, you all are pretty smart, being able to astrally project your feet to all that pollworking and phone-calling and whatnot.
Sheesh!
So much for all that crap about Clinton sitting down with Joe to scotch the indie run.
Where do you come down now, Mr. President?
Christy Hardin Smith @ 133
Chicago Rules, Christy. He stuck a knife in the party tonight with that speech, and Boxer and Co. better recognize that for what it was: “I’m Joe the Senator, oh marvelous me, for I am the king of all that I see . . .”
Chicago Rules.
Bustednuckles @ 139
Thanks for that Busted…will bookmark for later. Hopefully I will not need it.
Yes! Yes! Yesyesyesyesyesyesyes I am so thankful!

It’s great that Ned won, but beyond that — this is an unfun outcome.
God Damn Joe Leiberman to political hell for all eternity . . .
Every signature Joe submits needs to be scrutinized — he isn’t on the ballot yet.
Karl Rove is doing the happy dance tonight . . .
This is such big news, really! I mean this clown was the democratic vice presidential nominee and now the real democrats are coming forth with a real democrat — Ned Lamont!!! Good for Conneticut! Send some sanity to Mississippi (yeah, right) Thank you! Conneticut! Yea!!!
apology -
I stated “Now you will be remembered for the small-hearted, self-centered, whiny-voiced Quisling incumbent Senator who chose to lose two elections for his seat in three months.”
I was wrong, and I admit it.
I should have said “Now you will be remembered as the small-hearted, self-centered, whiny-voiced Quisling incumbent Senator who chose to lose two elections for his seat in three months.”
Senator Lieberman, I apologize for choosing the wrong preposition.
At least I’ve admitted the error.
When will you concede yours?
Oh yeah, November – unless you decide to contest that result.
Maybe now I understand why you caved on the 2000 post-election fight, Senator.
You were saving yourself for the 2006 post-election fight.
Guess “Joementum” is the word for long trajectory towards self-protection.
Check in with Mission Control, Senator: the latest commands you uploaded don’t compute.
You’ll never be a Senator after next January, but you can still bag the race and sign up for the lobbyist gravy train.
Senator, we know we can count on you to do the right thing – for yourself.
Why would you stop now?
In an emergency, Go HERE… .

OH AMEN, AMEN, AMEN TO THAT!!! Book mark it before you forget. That’s where the picnic basket disappeared to with some of us, but now it’s back — gotcher hot conch fritters right here, meta!

*Ilson – I hate to point this out, but i think you have one to many “o”s in LOSE. But that’s me. Enjoy.
Haven’t been around in the comments for ages but I figured I’d pop back in to express my gratitude.
Congrats, guys, for all your hard work on behalf of all of us. Thanks to the tireless efforts of Jane and so many of the FDL crew, one of the most objectionable of all the reprehensible Bush Admin’s aiders and abetters is probably headed to the dustbin of history. Am still pinching myself.
justintime @ 150: man, I hope that one gets repeated over and over.
Irony…hurting brain…

Nicely done *ilson. Let me know if I can help.
I’m not techo-savvy (unless you’re talking music) but I have energy and am tres creative.
Jo Public @ 104
Hey there, Jo Public! Good to hear your $0.02 worth. Now, what say we take that “hack” business and use it to beat Joementum like a cheap gong?
I’m with Peterr. Chicago rules, all the way.
If the Dem incumbents don’t land on Hoe Joe like a ton o’ bricks over this, every incumbent who goes along with a farce like that should see his fundraising to dry up like day-old toast.
Since Loserman made his announcement this evening that he was running as an independant, does that mean that he is NO LONGER a democrat? Did he just withdraw from the Party?
lol…please reassure me that you bought http://www.SoreLoserman.com and not http://www.SoreLooserman.com
hmm…of course you could be referencing his morals.
While you are at it, pick up TeamConnecticut.com.
He mentioned “Team Connecticut” during his
concession…uh…acceptance…um…screw-the-voters-I’m-doing-what-I-want speech.*ilson –
You keep buying those domain names — if we can send TRex to CT, we can cover your costs.
Christy @ 134–it’s a shame that Lieberman was disinvited from the unity breakfast because of his Independent intentions, as it provides a public forum for pressuring him to put his enormous ego aside for the good of the party and the people of Connecticut. But phone calls are certainly better than nothing, though it sounds like Joe can still be squirrely and avoidant if others have to come to him rather than having Joe put on a good public face at a public event.
Just talked to TRex, boy was he pissed about Loserman……
-ck- @ 172
Just part of due diligence, like making sure you have enough bandwidth . . .
Joe will stick with his ‘hacked website’ theory as long as he is sticking with Iraq is doing wonderful theory. Truth has little to do with these people.
I am really worried about Ned fighting a 2 front war but the only thing I am smiling about tonight after the first thrill of Ned winning, was the look on all those D.C.dems face. I mean really, what the heck are they going to do.
And Joe will be pushing them to come with him. I don’t think Bill Clinton will come for Lamont but I would bet anything that Al Gore will come for Lamont. And that will make me smile even bigger.

katymine 187, that’s the best news I heard all day!
oh well about http://www.sorelooserman.com … it turns out somebody in Savannah Georgia owns soreloserman.com but has no website for it…
There is a big difference between thinking you have power and influence and actually having power and influence. Till being beaten by Lamont, Loserman could claim to have the latter. Now, as Loserman, he has the former – for now. I won’t claim that his perception of the cards he holds isn’t important, it is, but soon enough he will be disabused of it. That’s reality, and it’s a bitch, and it hurts, and Joe hasn’t seen it for a long time so he can’t recognize it at first. But he will.
Of course I could be wrong, but I’d take bets I’m right.
I’m opening the bottle of Patron. Cheers FDL! I do believe in providence.
Late-Nite’s up. (In fact, it’s been up for a half-hour.)
egregious @ 155
Welcome back, Egy!
Relax and enjoy the win!
Congratulations Ned Lamont & Family, and to every soul that helped make it happen. I popped the bubbly early knowing and trusting he would win. The great shift has manifested tonight. A heightened awareness abounds is an understatement.
Let your hair down and kick off your shoes tonight as we deserve it, and tomorrow roll your sleeves up to dig in even harder.
*CHEERS*
HopespringsATurtle – can i have some?
Do you think soreloserman’s pathetic behavior is is a boost for Lamont’s image?
Emailed Harry Reid demanding that Lieberman stripped of all his committee membership.
TeamConnecticut is already bought … but good idea …
With 98.4% reporting, Ned Lamont still has a 10k vote and 3.6% lead.

NefLes, step on over her to the bar — lemme fix you an apple margarita this round! Or ya wanna try a Pisco sour? Mmmmm.
I think if joe’s signatures are bogus and he doesn’t have enough legit ones, I will then fall over laughing my a*s off!
it would be lovely to see him get kicked off all his committees, then only to find out his sigs are bad….
YEA, BABY! THAT would make me happy!
-ck- @

Are the absentees included?
Hmmm. I’m thinking it might be worth it for Reid to say they’re going to strip Joe of committee assignments unless he ceases running against the Democratic nominee. He’s going to be in the Senate until January; it might be better not to have him openly kicked out of the party. Of course, if he won’t drop the indy bid, he should be booted immediately.
TWOLFIE !!!
Such happy, happy drunks we are tonight! Salut!
justintime @ 197
Absolutely — the problem is, this race sucks resources and media. The winners of that meta contest are the GOP and K-Street . . .
Hey Joe! We just wanted to bring you down, we don’t care about your stupid web site!
Mommybrain –
Absentees are counted first — there is NO WAY Joe Loserman pulls out this election.
…and to think, it all happened on the birthday of the energy policy act
I wonder if the national chapters of NARAL, PP, etc. will now reconsider their endorsements of Holier than thou Joe or if they will pursue their current course into political irrelevancy.
-ck- @ 214
I don’t think it will take very long before Joe drops out – a lot sooner than in the 2004 presidential primaries.
lotus – Salut to you too!! didn’t even realize there has been a new thread for quite some time now!
-ck- that’s a relief!
Just sent this to the DNC and my senator, Barbara Boxer:
“Please thank Senator Lieberman for his service to the country and do everything in your power (and do it publicly) to make sure he knows the time for that service is over.
The Democratic voters of Connecticut have spoken and it is imperative that Joe Lieberman understand that if he runs, he will have no support from the Democratic leadership and as a consequence of his opposition to the nominated Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate for Connecticut, he will lose all Senate committee and caucus assignments.
I am a lifelong Democrat who hopes to see some life put back in the Democratic party.”
EPU @ 162
Right on the money! I’d put up a tidy sum that the prick finds himself out in the cold, and steps aside.
I just sent this to Joe Lieberman through Ned Lamont’s link:
You’ve had a good run. 18 years is plenty. Pay attention to the winds of change in this country. Real, regular people now have a powerful tool against the Establishment. Get a clue.
FDL– The four or five percent belong to YOU! Growing up
I learned : when you get into an elevator and someone
says”that man is tall” you aren”t talking twice or a quarter
as much as everyone else–you are talking only four or five inches more. I feel FDL and the Lamonts know all this.

Email Senator Reid
http://reid.senate.gov/contact/email_form.cfm
Patrick @ 227,
You’re welcome. Your note provides an excellent template for others. Show respect for Senator Lieberman’s service, but make it clear that it’s time to respect the will of the voters, because we’re through screwing around.
I just wrote Boxer to say that Democrats must get behind Lamont now, or progressives will be giving to Lamont, at the expense of the DSCC. I made the point that Joe was no longer trust worthy and if we won a 51-49 majority with Joe, he’d only undermine us going forward. I made it respectful, but said to the effect that we’re tired of being used as an ATM and then ignored.
This is a win for the voters and the party had damn well better honor the voters wishes or why would they deserve support? Up until tonight, they have been totally inept at stopping the worst of the administration.
Something tells me that Joe is probably wishing he hadn’t gotten on his high horse and slapped down progressives, repeatedly.
BBC Overnight had a great way of expressing it, Joe Lieberman was Deselected by the Democratic Party of Ct. DESELECTED,– Love that Britishism. Joe, you were Deselected!!!
Enjoy tonight, but the gold ring is in November, and the sooner we see this deslection as just the initial step in the process, the better.
Advantage Lamont — in November Students will be back in CT. The need will be for very solid organizing to register students, and get them to vote Lamont. In CT, that is thousands of students. Student Organizing is a ground game — not TV.
Advantage Lamont — Weicker and Independent Voters. Weicker got elected as an Independent, and he’s now got to help Lamont convince Indies that Lamont is more in their interests than Lieberman, even though Joe is going to make much of his Independent status. He really isn’t independent given who finances him — and that case has to be carefully made.
I doubt if committee positions make much sense in this — but making certain that Democratic Senators with Leadership PAC’s don’t send off checks to Lieberman is important. Likewise it is important to tag Joe with any Republican PAC money he receives.
Getting the Labor and other NGO organizational endorsements away from Lieberman and into Lamont’s arena is important — NARAL and Planned Parenthood and others — they need real pressure from all around the land. I doubt if these carry much weight at the ballot box, but they should never have endorsed in a primary, and that needs to be made clear.
Lamont needs to figure how to make Joe shoulder the endorsements he has received from the vile — the Ann Coulters, John Fund’s and all the rest. He never actually accepted these endorsements — but he needs to be forced by the Lamont Campaign to denounce them.
With a totally minimalist Republican on that line on the ballot, the competition is going to be for Republican votes in the General. Lamont can’t win unless he can attract a percentage of these.
Anyhow the next few months are a totally new and different ball game — Enjoy tonight, but the Gold Ring is some months away.
Just one of the many times he has punked out to the GOP line when his presence was most needed. Frankly, that kind of behavior is the only thing he stands out in my mind for. In fact not letting fly on this dude and his tactics is one thing that’s really kept this dragon leaning to and fro the last few years.
Someone (and I’d be glad to contribute some links) should compile a list to have ready for this “independent” bid of his. It would impress a lot of folks.
I’m enjoying a lovely glass of prosecco and toasting the great state of CT tonight, and all of the hardworking folks who made the Lamont win possible.
Peterr @ 169
Chicago Rules, Christy. He stuck a knife in the party tonight with that speech, and Boxer and Co. better recognize that for what it was: “I’m Joe the Senator, oh marvelous me, for I am the king of all that I see . . .”
Chicago Rules.
Damn skippy.
Christy Hardin Smith @

Hallejuiah for that!!
epockets at tnh has some raw material for the Joe Gets His Albatross campaign. He reminds us of HoHo’s leading shill roles in (1) the Terry Schiavo campaign; (2) the Iraq War; (3) the confirmation of Alberto Gonzales; and (4) the attempt to destroy Social Security; to which I would certainly add (5) his role in the Alito affair, including the attempt to lock up the process in favor of Bush appointees into the indefinite future; (6) his zeal for the pelt of William J. Clinton during the 1998 “impeachment” fight, and the sidelining of WJC that resulted in the 2000 campaign; (7) the aforementioned haste HoHo showed in conceding the 2000 and pre-emptively waiving the fight over the military ballots; (man, I see why emptypockets gave up, you could wear yourself out on this subject) and I’m sure the list is not yet exhausted even before you get to the shenanigans of the present occasion.
But impressive as it is merely to enumerate the many omissions and commisions of The Man Who Was Never There, we need to add narrative, for those lengthening autumn evenings when it’s necessary to explain why all those votes for things in which the Democratic Senators were either in the decisive majority or the hopeless minority don’t matter when you try to use them as offsets for, oh, maybe a dozen or score rank betrayals.
Happy Thermidor, everyone.
i still cannot believe bush won those two elections.
Hate to say it, but I agree… it’s time to tear a page out of the Rove playbook, use it for good instead of evil, and slam Joe hard with the “Sore Loserman” meme.
Congratulations Ned Lamont.
Good Riddance Lying Joe.

A great win for us.
A giant “Look out-slash-Heads-up!” for every politician in america.
If Lieberman runs as an independent, every democrat who so much as REFRAINS from ripping him for doing it, needs to be effectively drummed out of the party.
I mean, their names to go on the granite-Moses-table shitlist for a few eons.
As a Lamont volunteer at Enfield, CT yesterday, I was informed by a local politico that beating Joe as an indepenedent in the Fall would be near impossible. We have our work cut out for us and once the cheering dies down, we need to get moving. I also emailed Harry Reid tp say that Lieberman should be romoved from all positions and posts he holds in DC since he is no longer a Democrat. I refuse to give any more money to the DLC until Joe’s betrayal is addressed!
