I’m heading back for the afternoon shift handing out Lamont literature, but 2 quick success stories before I go.

The first Lamont conversion was actually from the head of our town registrar of voters. She has been a staunch Lieberman supporter until the tone of his campaign turned negative in the last few weeks. His mean-spirited demeanor was the driving force behind her change of mind. But then she said she the more she analyzed the Iraq War she had to admit what she didn’t want to: Joe is wrong.

And the second is such a “guy” story. My husband saw this gentleman pull up in a Porsche. Since we have a 356SC my husband can spot a Porsche owner a mile away. And so began the second conversion. They talked about political issues too, but it was the “car thing” that got it started. When the fellow finished voting he stopped by to say “I voted for your guy”. Sometimes it’s just the little thing that makes the difference. You never know.

Interesting to note Spazeboy’s observation that turnout was light early this morning. If that trend holds, Lieberman is toast. I figure the only way that Holy Joe wins is that he succeeds with his GOTV push.

He didn’t make a strong enough case on any of the issues to change anyone’s mind. Otherwise, the passion and commitment of the Lamont voters is going to bring this sucker home !

Hint for Lamont in the General Election: In Chicago, home of effective politics, if a person in a precinct hasn’t voted on Election Day by 12 noon, the precinct captain sends workers to the house to bring them to the polling place. I have seen a person under his car making repairs pulled out by the creeper/dolly and taken to the polling place. No excuses.

A Lamont win & more down the road would really accelerate the tearing down of the wall between democracy as was intended by our founders & the current sellout americans machine. Lieberman in his 2000 book, “In Praise of Public Life” quoted Jimmy Carter who said, “The American people deserve a government as good as they are.” Joe then said, “Nearly a quarter century later, the American people still deserve as much, and they still do not have it. But my life in politics tells me that they are closer to it than they think.” Did he write these words because that was his real belief or just political rhetoric? I think the latter. Considering the condescending manner he has displayed toward dems questioning his stances makes me believe that he doesn’t regard the American people as “good” as himself. Well, my faith in real Americans tells me that we are closer to the government we deserve than Joe thinks.

1,236 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…

To all FDLers and Nedsters and citizens out there this AM:

Remember that a Lamont victory will speed up the suname that is gunna hit the political coast this November but a Lamont loss will not even slow it down. The war is won though this battle is just engaged…General Giap had it right about popular front wars of liberation as wars of attrition, as long as there are citizens on the battlefield the war can not be lost.

KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION, JOE LIEBERMAN IS ONLY THE FIRST TARGET!!

I live in Hartford, and my polling place is at the local elementary school, right around the corner from my house. When I walked up there this morning before work, the Lamont volunteers were right there (no Lieberman people that I saw) and looked like they were ready for the long haul. I was going to vote for Lamont anyway, but when a little neighborhood girl there with her family gave me a Lamont voting card as I was walking in … I was sold.

Out there on the streets, the Lamont organization just plain looks honest. These are people who know their neighborhoods, who live here and work here and speak the language (in my neighborhood, both Spanish and English), and who want to be there, with their neighbors.

That’s one view from the casual voter, at least. Good luck, all.
