I got this e-mail from RevDeb and Susan last night. They’ve been having problems posting from the hotel, and wanted me to tell everyone hi from Connecticut. But it was this part of the e-mail that I wanted to share with everyone this morning:
We’re going to bed early—have a 4:30 am wake-up call to get out to the polls by 6 and stand and hand out stuff for Ned. It’s going to be a VERY long day.
We have such amazing readers on this blog. And I could not be more proud of each and every one of you. Some of you have been working your butts off on the ground in Connecticut or calling via the Moveon.org phone banking, and you are nothing short of amazing. And for everyone who has given via ActBlue or through our PayPal link or just given of themselves in the comments and helped us refine a message point or bouyed tired spirits or whatever…well, thank you. Very much.
Whatever happens with the election results today, this election has been a wake-up call for a number of folks in and out of the DC Bubble. We see it in the flummoxed expressions of the national media covering the race, who are struggling to come to terms with the fact that ordinary Americans are fed up with the status quo in politics right now. We see it in the real questions that Senators were asking just last week of Donald Rumsfeld — real, honest questions for once.
You think that would have happened had Joe Lieberman not faced the fight of his political life? And you think the American public isn’t hungry for more of that? On any number of issues? I know I am, and I’m sure a lot of you are as well. It’s called balance of powers, and Joe Lieberman has had his thumb on the scales, skewing the weights toward the Bush Adminstration for long enough, while trying to cloak himself in the veneer of a false bipartisanship. Well, I say enough.
And whether or not Lamont or Lieberman are ultimately the winner today, notice has been served on every member of Congress and on the Bush Administration that we are not content to sit back and allow them to take care of us any longer. We are watching what they do in Washington, and we are not happy with their decided lack of results. Fear does not work any longer as the single motivating factor — and whether it is anger or disgust or sorrow at where our country has been heading, we are not going to sit passively by and hope for the best any longer.
We the people…are going to BE the change. Get used to it, get on board, or get out of the way. Because we have had enough.
If you live in Connecticut, or have relatives there, the Lamont campaign has put together a handy tool to help find the appropriate polling place for voting. They’ve also put together a handy "e-mail friends and family" page for you to send out an e-mail reminder to go and vote for Ned.
We want accountability. We want honesty. And above all else, we want them all to remember that they work for us — not the other way around — and they forget that at their peril. Because ultimately, it is the American public that holds the cards in this poker game…and we are NOT folding, whether we win this hand or not. Now get out there and vote!

NED LAMONT !!!
NED!
Go NED GO!!
Go FDL!!
Wooo!!
Ned today!
Thanks Christy, you and Jane and all the rest of our community are so inspirational. Together we can overcome…….
Thanks Christy….I hope all is well with you…Please tell Jane when you speak with her……THANKS and a really BIG HUG!!!!
Elect Lamont !
Today’s the day! GO NED!
The toilet gets flushed TODAY!
By posting this, I know I’m asking for all sorts of commentary about my cuteness, but I met T-Rex last night.
Here’s picture proof.
I’m leaving momentarily to GOTV, and have already pulled the lever for Ned.
Good morning all and GO NED! Oh, how I wish I still lived in CT for so many reasons. May this beautiful August day bring us a much Nedded victory and all the hope and joy we have been waiting and working for.
A change is gonna come, let it begin today with the defeat of a warmonger and turncoat.
spazeboy…how does turnout look so far?
what a well-adjusted goth kid !
we are not going to sit passively by and hope for the best any longer.
That there is the key, folks. Rest assured, the right-wing and their lazy enablers will *never* give up. They have bazillions behind them, and that crazy gleam in their eyes that says “fanatic.” They will go to their graves think up new ways to screw the rest of us.
This is a fight that can be won…but is also a fight that can *never*, *never* be avoided. Unless we want to lose.
You have done a fabulous job for Ned. I just hope he can bring it home. Fingers crossed. I am hoping our Jim Webb from Virginia can get some high profile help from the blogs. We’ve got to get George Allen out.
Again, thanks so much for all you do.
Captain GoTo — Angela Davis said it pithily: Freedom is a constant struggle!
Thank you, Christy. Thanks to all of you. Without FDL I think I would have been in despair. I pray for your work to come to fruition.
Christy, you’ve been so good to this community, can you give us a technique for getting through this incredibly nerve-wracking day? waiting to holler in joy for our Lamont!
I haven’t heard much about turnout yet except that it was light down in Branford. There was no waiting here in New Britain (at my polling place anyway) this morning either.
I’m hesitant to get on the phones at my Dem Town Committee HQ today. I got about 5 or 6 calls yesterday myself and I can only imagine that even our “ones” are sick and tired of their phone ringing.
TRex and Spazeboy…….Cute!
omg Spazeboy @ 6:16 – it’s Tom & Huck !
characters created by a former resident of Connedicut
Freedom is a constant struggle!
Ain’t it the truth. The “Freedom isn’t free” crowd oughta think about what that *really* means.
Oh, and Christy–God bless, you are one of the true divas (in the very best sense, o’course!!). Hope you’re feelin’ better, and that little Fiona goes easy on Mom today.
I think it’s sad that the race is so close among democrats. Is it possible that a lot of republicans switched party affiliation in order to vote for Lieberman?
if Mark Twain were still alive in Hartford, he would have been having Ned Lamont fundraising house parties …
Good positive energy to all the great FDL community members in CT, all doing phone banking, and all on the Lamont campaign staff.
Kick Joe all the way back to Crawford TX.
I must say, the trolls that come on for RG JOe have no imagination…..LMAO
Good Luck to all FDLers in CT today. Sending love, RG
very moving post Christy. just sent it to a Lieberman supporter.
*ilson….you are the best….LOL
Franco @ 28
They are not paid for their imagination!
Please, no Purina LieberChow for the trolls … they are already engorged.
moderators are gonna be steppin’ & fetchin’ today, huh?
bold – b – gone!
*ilson…..now that was hillarious…..
again…you are the best.
I respectfully disagree with much of the theme of this article. I fully understand the message of Ms. Smith. It’s logical. But in my mind, “moral victories” and “serving notice on DC” etc are all but…a losers lament.
There is no substitute for Victory. None. Never take solace in defeat. It is a bitter bitter pill. How will Mr. Lamont do today? I have no better idea than anyone else. I certainly hope he is victorious. Do I ever hope so.
But if he loses? I for one will take no comfort in defeat. I will take no solace. The bitter fire in my belly will only burn brighter. I would suggest, in the awful event that Mr. Lamont loses, that no-one take solace in such defeat. Critically examine what should have been done, what mistakes were made, how to do things better so as to avoid another defeat. But I will never take even an inch of satisfaction in defeat.
Fortunately, my philosophy, at this moment, gets the cart way ahead of the horse. We have voting going on, and a long day ahead. I want, and will accept only one thing. Total victory. Let’s all see how the voting goes.
Ghostman
if you reload or refrsh ( F5 ) this page, the troll comments will have disappeared.
Spazeboy @ 11
Well, did you EVAH see such cuties this side of newborn pups or kittens?! And that TRex, with his 65-myo tail thumping mischief . . .
WOOT, you boyz ‘n’ grrlz!
For Christy,
There been times that I thought I couldn’t last for long
But now I think I’m able to carry on
It’s been a long, a long time coming
But I know a change gonna come, oh yes it will
and Jane Hamsher,
I owe you and Christy so much for your informing and then marshalling the forces of progressive good, bringing us to this morning and sensing that thing with feathers . . .
Wow Christy!! This post says it all!
Thank-you!
it’s just one troll changing names while hyped up on meth … $150 buys a lot of crystal
Ghostman: I’m not reading any “solice in defeat” in this post.
Just spent a few hours last night phone banking, and a few hours at the poll in my town this morning. Of course I cast my vote for Ned too. The turnout seemed light so far but maybe more people vote after work.
Whatever happens, I am now an expert phone banker and will be doing a lot of that come the fall.
cathy @ 23
It’s unlikely that a lot of registered Republicans made the switch, as the deadline to do so was 5/8 — before Ned had even secured enough petitions or convention votes to force the primary. Odds are, the possibility that the election might be this close wasn’t even on the radar for most Republicans.
Right-leaning unaffiliateds however…that’s another story because the deadline to register or to switch from a minor-party (green, libertarian, unaffiliated, independent, etc.) was yesterday at noon.
VOTE JOE !!!!!!!!!outta office !!!!!
*ilson — pull one back for me and I’ll take care of it.
All this positive emotion makes me angry.
If the Dems start to represent change I’m joining the Greens. I like my anger pure and my funding from the powers that be.
42, lina: well, I did. But, you know what? Reasonable minds can differ! I’m rooting for victory, as is all others here. Let’s push for the best.
Ghostman
or how about this one ?
GO JOE ! . . . and take the other DINO’s with ya !!!
*ilson46201 @ 41
Sure, today. But what’s that troll gonna do for a fix tomorrow? What’s Lil’ Ricky paying down in PA? That’ll get ‘em through to November . . .
i hope lemont wins today if not its no fun
i want to see him win now and lose in the general election in a 3 way that will be fun!!!
Heh, Pach! Howyadoon this AM, Our Ancient Andean?
Just got back from voting for Ned in my small town of 6,000. There were four Ned volunteers at the polling place and no others. There was a line of three in front of me and I was told that voting is going well. Passion is on our side and there is passion in the air just like there was in 1968. So be strong all, we will be fine.
alright guys…I’m off to spread democracy.
Look for me on cable news tonight–I may get a spot for my camera on the media platform with the big dogs.
Overheard tonight on Fox News “There was no room for us on the media platform–thanks a lot, spazeboy”
Well said as usual Christy.
Enjoy a well earned win Ned.
why are the minions of the Democrat’s Moral Compass talkin’ about 3 ways ?
tsk, tsk . . .
Cathy at 23:
Republicans had to switch party affiliation by May. I stopped by the registrar’s office in our town yesterday and was told that Republicans were steadily trying to switch this past week, only to find out that only Indpendents could switch up until August 7th. She said people left her office as mad as wet hornets.
It is a stunning day in CT…a great day for a stunning victory!!
lotus:
I’m fine. Getting ready to go w
ork for the manmake some money in a few.Heh. Actually, my client is rather progressive and serves some progressive clients in DC. Have had that business relationship since before my political activity took off.
Spazeboy..lol…you go!!
Christy!
Ned!
Roots!
I didn’t know a Manatee could type. Rush must have taken one of the blue pills.
BTW, I discovered yesterday that my firedoglake dot com email was not working, and has not been all along, so anyone I never responded to, I apologize.
you go spazeboy!!!!
Three Observations:
1. I want Ned to win and will be deeply saddened and disappointed if he does not. That being said, this exercise in CT was an EXCELLENT training excercise for folks in the FDL community and the progressive netroots/grassroots community generally. We commenters learned a ton about phone banking, door knocking and the like. And on a meta level, the operators of the blogs and the leading political activists found out how to coordinate with one another and work together. It is definitely still a work in progress, but great strides are being made.
2. Thinking about all the blogger “stars” that have shone so brightly in CT, I am reminded that EVERY state has latent local stars just waiting for the right race to get excited about. Every state has people like CT Blogger, Spazeboy, CT Bob, Dad, DeanFan84, and so on. They are all waiting for the clarion call and they will arise. I am so excited about the prospect. And, further, now that the folks in CT have had a chance to flex their muscles, they are only going to get more involved and more adept at political movement-making.
3. We need more permanent paid folks working directly for Kos and FDL, etc. These people can be paid by a collective fund of donations from folks who visit these sites. There is no substitute for paid, full-time labor. That is the main reason why I fear a Lieberman victory. The conservatives (such as Lieberman) may believe that the government’s social work can be successfully replaced by individual volunteerism and charities, but when it comes time for them to win elections, they turn to paid, full time employees to get the job done. If we in the blogosphere do the same, we can couple full time professionals with volunteer labor in the most efficient and powerful manner possible.
My coment to the WaPo after reading The Fix and its recommendation of Balz’ latest screed:
Down to the last minute, Balz just has to get his cocktail weenies.
Don’t suppose exit polling today?

Hey, Ghostie, I’ve been seeing/reading lots of Ned-at-the-factory-gate, Ned-at-Electric-Boat, Ned-surrounded-by-working-folks’-smiles coverage lately. Hope you’ve caught some of it too, because I think of you every time.
Spazeboy – you left something out -
“There was no room for us on the media platform–thanks a lot, spazeboy, oh look, cocktail weenies ! ”
Hey, Pach I passed the info to my daughter who has friends that are progressives who program. I don’t know what programs they know, but if I hear back from her I’ll leave a note when you are online.
Pach, major hat tip to you for all you are doing. You are great medicine for a low motivational OS.
Thanks and god bless.
if there is any exit polling, don’t believe it. remember nov. 2004.
Kudo’s to everyone. Very inspiring…
one last thing, i’ll be getting interviews with ned, tom swan, and others most likely…and i’m lousy at this.
email some question ideas to nlr@laresistance.us I’ll be back in 4-5 hours to check my e-mail before heading down to set up for the night.
cfeddy @ 69
I may miss it, so please just ask them to send me an email if they are interested. We got some good potential candidate emails yesterday which Lambert and are are sorting through, but we’re still accepting volunteers. If I get an email, I can get people into our consideration queue, otherwise, they may get lost.
Thanks!
Roots Project is going to be so cool. Imagine turning every state’s local operations into a mini-CT. . .
Spazeboy
Hope you didn’t leave yet. Wanted to say how good you looked on the piece on World News Now on the overnight on ABC. Nice piece. Gave you a cheer over on DKos too.
Old Sow @ 70
Back at ya. May the Amazon’s fertility gods smile on your family.
Old Sow — you often describe yourself as “OS” but in the computer world, that means Operating System and I perk up to see if somebody is discussing Linux or WinXP or what …
Ok, folks, please hold the fort. I have to go
sell my soulmake some money. It seems to me that a low turnout benefits Lamont more than Lieberman. In a summer primary it is motivated donors that tend to turn out and that would seem to be a plus for Ned. The casual voter is more likely to be influenced by name recognition or comfort level (the “Uncle Toontsi factor” I think Tweety was calling it last night), so the fewer casual voters that turn out the better.
Also, I’m not sure late registrations of previously-registered independents or third-party candidates will be a factor. While moderate independents may break slightly to Lieberhosen, Greens or Libertarians are more likely to go for Ned. The tactical-voting Republicans, mindful of way Weicker was elected in 1970, may actually hope that a Lamont victory helps the Republican candidate win. As pointed out above, there’s not likely many of those (primarily consisting of new residents of the state) but I think they’d vote more for Ned than Java the Hutt.
Push on, all. Whatever the results, (and I think this was the main point of Christy’s post) everyone working so hard and giving so much deserve our greatest thanks.
LOL *ilson…..I’d better wind up the whirlpool or y’all will think I’m a barnyard critter too lazy to spell out my whole name!
Fort held, Pach! Laters, babe.
lina @ 70
Hi Everyone,
My ears are soar from so many hours on Move.org phonebanks over the past few days. It has been so great to be able to take breaks here at FDL.com.
Exit polls are considered to be among the most reliable of polls. When they don’t accurately reflect “official” results, it is a good indication of electioneering official hanky panky. Read RKF Jr’s Rolling Stone article about this.
lotus, 70: well…..I read of the appearance…yesterday? by Mr. Lamont at EB. Good for him! I’m not aware of other such appearances, but if so…good! Damn good! And yes, even by my own admission, I HAVE been a broken record about such appearances.
I know the AFL-CIO structure went for Lieberman; but I always thought it was a soft support. I truly believe Mr. Lamont can appeal to the working man. I certainly hope he’s been appearing before many factory gates/union halls. I think he’ll pick up some votes there. Thanks for the news update.
***It’s too late now, but I’ve always felt that Mr. Lamont is the type who, when appearing before a group, was just bound to pick up a few votes. And not ever alienate a possible voter. Lieberman always had the potential to alienate some even if he wooed some voters over.
Ghostman
An amazing post, that strangely echoes what I was reading this morning, Thieves in High Places, by Jim Hightower. Jim always makes me believe in America–and Americans–again.
We complain a lot about the stupid and ill-informed and how hard all this is, wresting power from the elite and greedy and into the hands of the everyday people.
One of the examples he used of how hard, even how sometimes futile, the fight seems is this: Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Sojourner Truth and all those other women at Seneca Falls in the 1840s who dared to demand that women have the right to vote spent lifetimes fighting for that right, and none of them got to vote. But they never gave up, and their daughters and granddaughters–they got to vote.
It’s always a battle uphill against the powers that be. They don’t give up power easily. It can take years, and enormous sacrifices. But doing the right thing eventually wins in the end. You just have to keep the faith, and keep pushing the boulder out of the way. It will move eventually.
Remember the message of this poem when you think you “can’t”. It’s one of my favorites…
well I’m off for the day – will check in as I can
much progressive love to all,
GO NED !!!
Some extra motivation for people in Connecticut.
I just got the email message below from Sean Smith. Please, people in Connecticut, DON’T LET LIEBERMAN CELEBRATE TONIGHT:
“JOIN JOE FOR OUR VICTORY PARTY!
Tonight, Senator Lieberman will be nominated by the Democratic Party of Connecticut to continue his 18 years of service in the United States Senate. Be there to celebrate the future and what together, Joe Lieberman and the Democratic Party can do for Connecticut in the years to come.
When: Doors Open at 5:00PM
Where: The Goodwin Hotel
One Haynes Street
Hartford, CT”
I’ve always felt that Mr. Lamont is the type who, when appearing before a group, was just bound to pick up a few votes. And not ever alienate a possible voter. Lieberman always had the potential to alienate some even if he wooed some voters over.
Exactly right, Ghostie. And this essential difference is so deep in their two makeups that it doesn’t even need words to be told . . .
Bookwoman:
Being a Texan, I condensed all that down to one simple phrase for my son, when he used to say, “I can’t!”
Can’t never could do anything.
I really hope Ned wins today, as I know we all do. But I keep seeing all kinds of comments and questions regarding what the netroots is going to get credit or blame for.
I don’t know about the rest of it, but the media is sitting around the nation (especially D.C.) with bated breath waiting for the results of today’s voting. The netroots put this race on the map and attracted all that attention.
Does anyone really think that David Broder, David Brooks and Tom Friedman would have all written opinion pieces on this Primary if the netroots had not made it obvious to everyone that something was happening? I don’t.
The netroots has set the media agenda by focusing on this Primary, and the hullabaloo created is going to to a lot to set the issues both major parties focus on for the November election.
Even if Lieberman wins (I don’t think he will), that will have been a major outcome from the netroots attention.
Kick The Incumbent Bastards out….They have become the new Kings and princes
egregious
Safe smooth trip to ya!
The pups are all a-bustle here at the lake.
Check in when you can.
A whole lotta fans here looking fwd to your return.

Beautiful, LJ/Aquaria. Thank you. We may have to rip open our clothes, like Sojourner, and somewhat echo her cry, Ain’t I a human? but we will stand before the powers. Thank you, thank you.
(And, don’t bother, anyone to tell me the Ain’t I a Woman speech is apocryphal.)
(And, don’t bother, anyone to tell me the Ain’t I a Woman speech is apocryphal.)
It sho’ ain’t apocryphal for ME, Ga — anything but!
A Lamont win will be the best victory, and I hope for that with all my heart. I, too, am tired of having to be content with less than an actual win, and tired of the after-election right-wing spin. I so do not want to see Joe Lieberman’s sanctimoniously grinning frog-face or hear his happy whine when the election results are in. I do not want to hear Ned Lamont give a concession speech.
None of that is in my control, and as someone who’s pretty Type-A and likes things to be in my control, this is hard to come to grips with. All my worrying isn’t going to change the outcome, so all I can do now is hope we will be celebrating all of the victories – large and small – sometime later tonight.
Should there be a loss, though, the solace will not be in the defeat, but will be in the smaller victories which were won on the journey.
What have the smaller victories been?
Well, let’s start with this even being a race, and not the slam-dunk Lieberman thought it would be almost up to the end. What does it say that an incumbent went from something like 68% down to – at one point – 41%? And went on that slide because of an unknown candidate?
There is victory in the national conversation this race started, and I’m not talking, necessarily, about the MSM coverage. Look at us – from all over the country, talking about how to bring much-needed change to the Senate. Interest in this race has spilled over to other races and other progressive candidates, also looking to make changes.
There is victory in waking up Washington from its cocktail weenie-induced stupor, even if they don’t quite get it – yet. They will, because we aren’t going to get out of their faces now that we have gotten some of their attention.
There is victory in shaking up the punditocracy, which may fear the outcome of this election even more than Joe Lieberman and his band of incompetent campaign advisors. The conversations that take place on blogs like this, along with the activism generated by them, have threatened the MSM’s total domination of the message, to the point where that message is evolving.
There is victory in the fight itself. Victory in planting the seeds of change in hearts and minds all over this country.
It’s time for a change – the country desperately needs it – and I am confident that destiny is ordaining a Lamont win as the needed force for that change. And we’ve been a part of it – how cool is that?
I have to ask: when was the last time any of you were this excited about a Senate primary in a state in which most of us don’t even live? No matter what happens today, we all owe Ned Lamont a big “Thank You” for making it exciting to be a Democrat again. I haven’t felt this optimistic about progressive politics since, oh, about October of 2000…
Thanks, Ned!
Bless you, Lotus.
bookwoman 84 – that’s great – thanks for posting it
Annne at 94–
Hear! Hear!
The center/eight Oregonian came out for Lieberman today. My letter to their dustbin follows:
“It does not surprise me that the center right Oregonian would endorse Joe Lieberman. He is precisely your cup of tea. When Republicans raise issues like privatized social security, Terri Schiavo, radical right wing judicial nominations, Joe is right there trying to find a way to make nice. His first impulse is compromise, even when his opponents have never shown the slightest inclination to reciprocate. He has been the darling of right wing talk shows for years because of his willingness to join them in criticism of his fellow democrats. As a matter of fact the right wing punditry has stuck their collective nose in this race on behalf of Lieberman precisely because they know they will lose a useful idiot for their cause if he is defeated.”

Good morning everybody! Way out here in California, I feel as connected to Connecticut right now as Mr. Rochester did to Jane Eyre. Are there exit polls yet? eek!
Spazeboy — it just occurs to me, now that you are becoming famouser and famouser, do you have your logo copyrighted/trademarked? Because I think you are going to need it, sweet thing.
Go Ned! Victory!! Oh, it’s Nedmas, and I am giddy.
Just a glimpse of Ted Lamont and his lovely wife going into the voting booth on ABC and just the sight of this fine couple moved me more than I thought possible…and my coffee isn’t yet ready….must be that storied Nedadrenalin.
Love the TRex/spazeboy photograph – warms my sleepy ole heart. Its gonna be a challenge to focus on work today.
Thanks to all of you who have been working so hard to help Ned win!
Some joy for you all.

Firedogs — Seeing how that Bush-Lieberman “Kiss” was the kiss of death for ole’ Joementum, I am reminded that Bush also gave Chuck Schumer a very similiar “smooch” at a SOU address immediately following the 9/11 attack?
It struck me then as a little odd — but Chuckles was telling the world that Dubya had “promised him” $20 Billion to make NYC “whole again” after the attacks…
Of course, classic “just give me the mic” Schumer — it didn’t get past $5B and NYS or NYC still not whole. NYS went into a near tailspin w their nxt budgets — gutting aid to cities by 90%.
Question is: Can you do some digging and get that smooch shot? I would like Chuck’s nxt opponent to use it for humane purposes only!
Thanks.

Don Beal,
Great letter! I think someone here said it yesterday but it’s worth repeating: Compromise without an honest partner on the other side is just capitulation. Joe’s not just a mediocre Democrat; he’s a mediocre politician and deal-maker. Just as most issues don’t have just two sides, most issues don’t have a 50/50 common middle ground. Lieberman and the DLC never seem to understand that.
LindaR at 104:
” I feel as connected to Connecticut right now as Mr. Rochester did to Jane Eyre.”
You’ve made me laugh. I will get through this day.
“Jane, do you find me handsome?”
“No, Mr. Rochester.”
is there exit polling?
any barometer how this is going?
Thanks a bunch for that, Phil — loves me some o’ dat goofy contralto!
Spazeboy @ 19
Yeah, but think of it this way — they may be a bit annoyed, but the chances of anyone not voting or changing their vote just because they’re annoyed by the calls is pretty slim. The greater chance that someone who’s wavering will go makes it worth it.
Luck to Conn, and US.
It took a while but I think many of us learned in practice through this example what we thought in theory…that you have to pull for the best person and hope your party will repect citizens over power$.
While your waiting, a couple of posts everyone here might enjoy:
At First Draft, Athenae’s Open Letter to Sen. Lieberman.
And at Fanatical Apathy, Adam’s The Book of Lieberman.
Samurai Sam at 7:20:
Exactly! One of the guests on NPR last night nailed it — triangulating against your party for your personal benefit isn’t bipartisanship.
Even the WaPo, in their pro-Lieberman editorial, couldn’t come up with things he’d actually gotten for the Democrats with his “bipartisanship”; they were reduced to citing his success in “moving legislation forward” with one of the two examples being a bill that hasn’t even passed the Senate. (Not that they mentioned that, of course.)
Well, I’m late for work. Good luck, all you guys who are fortunate enough to be in CT today! I know you’ll do great!
EPU’d from TRex’s Late Nite thread!
I’ve put together a heartfelt video message for all the Democrats of the Great State of Connecticut. It’s terrible lighting and I used no script but it’s honest and it’s a word of encouragement from 6,000 miles away.
A Message to CT from a Democrat in Hawaii
Aloha and Godspeed!
Does anyone out there know what type of voting machines are being used?
Cynthia McKinney down in Georgia sounds like she is having a horrid time with unsecure machines, bad card machines and one without her name even on the ballot.
These electronic machines (Diebold, ES&S) are ridden with problems and questions the accuracy of ANY outcome.(Bush/Florida, Bush/Ohio, Bilbray/California, etc, etc, etc)
How secure are CT voting machines? Who is insuring their safety? Who is behind the certification process of this primary?
Two beauts, those are, CJ — thanks for sharing!

“I see in your eyes, the same fear that would take the heart of me. A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship. But it is not this day. An hour of wolves and shattered shields, when the age of men comes crashing down. But it is not this day. This day WE FIGHT!
By all that you hold dear on this good earth, I bid you STAND, MEN (and women)OF THE WEST!”
Kick ass.
New thread, kids…
I live in Hartford, and my polling place is at the local elementary school, right around the corner from my house. When I walked up there this morning before work, the Lamont volunteers were right there (no Lieberman people that I saw) and looked like they were ready for the long haul. I was going to vote for Lamont anyway, but when a little neighborhood girl there with her family gave me a Lamont voting card as I was walking in … I was sold.
Out there on the streets, the Lamont organization just plain looks honest. These are people who know their neighborhoods, who live here and work here and speak the language (in my neighborhood, both Spanish and English), and who want to be there, with their neighbors.
That’s one view from the casual voter, at least. Good luck, all.

Can I get an “Amen”?
1,236 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
To all FDLers and Nedsters and citizens out there this AM:
Remember that a Lamont victory will speed up the suname that is gunna hit the political coast this November but a Lamont loss will not even slow it down. The war is won though this battle is just engaged…General Giap had it right about popular front wars of liberation as wars of attrition, as long as there are citizens on the battlefield the war can not be lost.
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION, JOE LIEBERMAN IS ONLY THE FIRST TARGET!!
A Lamont win & more down the road would really accelerate the tearing down of the wall between democracy as was intended by our founders & the current sellout americans machine. Lieberman in his 2000 book, “In Praise of Public Life” quoted Jimmy Carter who said, “The American people deserve a government as good as they are.” Joe then said, “Nearly a quarter century later, the American people still deserve as much, and they still do not have it. But my life in politics tells me that they are closer to it than they think.” Did he write these words because that was his real belief or just political rhetoric? I think the latter. Considering the condescending manner he has displayed toward dems questioning his stances makes me believe that he doesn’t regard the American people as “good” as himself. Well, my faith in real Americans tells me that we are closer to the government we deserve than Joe thinks.
Hint for Lamont in the General Election: In Chicago, home of effective politics, if a person in a precinct hasn’t voted on Election Day by 12 noon, the precinct captain sends workers to the house to bring them to the polling place. I have seen a person under his car making repairs pulled out by the creeper/dolly and taken to the polling place. No excuses.
Interesting to note Spazeboy’s observation that turnout was light early this morning. If that trend holds, Lieberman is toast. I figure the only way that Holy Joe wins is that he succeeds with his GOTV push.
He didn’t make a strong enough case on any of the issues to change anyone’s mind. Otherwise, the passion and commitment of the Lamont voters is going to bring this sucker home !
Snark @7:43, thank you for sharing your experience!
I’m heading back for the afternoon shift handing out Lamont literature, but 2 quick success stories before I go.
The first Lamont conversion was actually from the head of our town registrar of voters. She has been a staunch Lieberman supporter until the tone of his campaign turned negative in the last few weeks. His mean-spirited demeanor was the driving force behind her change of mind. But then she said she the more she analyzed the Iraq War she had to admit what she didn’t want to: Joe is wrong.
And the second is such a “guy” story. My husband saw this gentleman pull up in a Porsche. Since we have a 356SC my husband can spot a Porsche owner a mile away. And so began the second conversion. They talked about political issues too, but it was the “car thing” that got it started. When the fellow finished voting he stopped by to say “I voted for your guy”. Sometimes it’s just the little thing that makes the difference. You never know.
