A little information from the World Wide Web consortium:
10.5.4 503 Service Unavailable The server is currently unable to handle the request due to a temporary overloading or maintenance of the server. The implication is that this is a temporary condition which will be alleviated after some delay. If known, the length of the delay MAY be indicated in a Retry-After header. If no Retry-After is given, the client SHOULD handle the response as it would for a 500 response.
That is also referred to as a 503 error in web/tech-guru talk. What this error tells you is that there are so many people trying to view the site at that time that it can not keep up. The server then sends out this error as a way of troubleshooting.
So why this sudden class in web servers? Well, as most of you may have guessed, this is a follow up to my earlier post about Lieberman and his "hacked site" claim. During Lieberman’s concession speech he mentioned his site, joe2006.com, and said to visit it once it becomes "unhacked". Well I decided to jump on and see what was happening with his site. Guess what happened. I got the infamous 503 error page on his site. I checked the IP and it was coming from his new GoDaddy hosting account. I hit refresh a couple of times and this is what came up:
Joe is still claiming his hack on his new server.
The other thing to keep in mind is this. Joe has just changed hosting companies. You FDL regulars will certainly know how that goes and what we went through here when that happened. You get up to 48 hours where people can not access your site because when they enter your domain name (ie. joe2006.com), the servers that look that name up and change it into the computer talk of an IP address cache the information and many don’t update for up to 48 hours. This is called DNS propagation. (for those that want to learn more about DNS and propagation, check out this entry on Wikipedia .) We even had a few readers here that it took a couple of weeks for their DNS to catch up. Before that they were still getting sent to the old host.
So why bring that bit of history up? Well, Lieberman’s DNS records were just updated today. That means there are still plenty of people out there not even going to his new server at GoDaddy. That also means that he is getting overloaded with only a percentage of the actual traffic he can expect once everyone is fully propagated.
Now we get to sit and wonder if this will be the same story from now until November, or will Joe swallow his pride and say "oops I got screwed by being cheap". Nah – we will probably get a repeat of this ordeal again in the next three months.

Ned!
ned-rootz!
I understand that those of us here on the net are interested in this web page hack story, but I think our side should stop talking about it and move on. The people out there on the street care about our kids dying in Iraq, high gas prices and high health care prices. We should focus on that.
The left needs to swiftly sink Lieberman’s “they hacked me” swiftboat. To quote TRex for the third time today – ATTACK, ATTACK, ATTACK. Don’t let the lie lie. Thanks, Jamie, for your clear “503s for Dummies.”
Jamie, you rock
I could not believe it when RGJoe invited Americans to come visit his website “when it’s unhacked.” The man has no, no, no, no shame.
Jane,
please, please, please say nice things about the Lieberman voters and campaigners. This was about the war, not a war among Democrats.
Yes, I know it’s nice to win. But reach out.
Chris
ps, your writing is awesome but you know that already.
pps, your Harry Reid idea was spot on. Read it. Did it.
Ned!
And, holy crap, you just uncovered a clue here… the TTL (Time To Live) for the A record for joe2006.com in the DNS is set to 3600 seconds, or one hour. This is the sort of TTL one might set in anticipation of a move (though I would use still lower, personally) — the default TTL typically is 86,400 seconds.
I think they knew they were going to move today. This looks coordinated now.
There’s still no explanation why the Planet’s security response team was never called in. The whole thing stinks to high heaven.
Please go tell Harry Reid what you want him to do about RGJoe at http://www.giveemhellharry.com…..anfran/BhW
Jamie, there’s more color wrt their net arrangements here:
http://www.tpmmuckraker.com/archives/001304.php
I don’t know if that changes anything, just thought I’d re-post in case you’d missed it earlier.
get all the info together. give it to someone (Jane?) who has some access to the MSM. demand that they run the truth.
tweety is tired. (msnbc on in background)
Somebody from Lamont’s competent techs needs to write up a succinct explanation of bandwidth/cpu use on servers and why the WATBs host was insufficient, causing his server trouble. Quick and efficient counter to the “I’ve been hacked!” idiocy.
I disagree. We have to push back. The ‘hack’ story isn’t the focus, but the reply needs to be a strong ‘Joe’s site failed because of Joe and no one else, which is an example of why he should not be elected’.. moving on, then talk about whatever… but each issue has to be forceably countered. That is why the GOP control the message and Dems seem ineffectual.
… and TRex, what are you focusing on this evening?
Jamie!
Joe is a wee tiny of a man.
Rob Zuber @ 3
No, we’re interested in the story because Lieberman is using it to smear Ned and quite possibly try to have the results of the primary invalidated. The story has to be investigated and refuted for those reasons before we can “move on.”
This is one of those instances where tomorrow will really tell us more than we know today.
Where I am (west coast), I don’t get to the new site, I still get to the old message: “This account is under construction. Please check back soon. It will be available shortly. Thank you.”
Hey, Jamie –
Thanks for all you do — you Rock!!!
Two functionality issues with FDL . . .
The edit function doesn’t work with IE6 –
The space bar functions as ‘refresh comments’ in Firefox, instead of page advance . . .
Thanks Again!!!
al-scooter at 9
very interesting…they’re trying to toss it joe’s way…but the truth will come out. And regardless, it will be ‘old news’ I predict by the time November rolls around.
Thanks so much Jamie and also to Kos for “getting it right” on the hacking lie. Unfortunately this type of story has a way of fossilizing into the MSM machine. It would not surprise me that 12 months from now Media Matters will be correcting Fox News pundits who will cling to the hacking lies.
Jamie, that pic is hilarious! Thanks for all the amazing work you do to keep the Lake running, and for these posts.
Intersting stuff popping up already at DKos:
http://www.dailykos.com/
Dodd’s in charge of cooling Joe’s jets, Rahm refers to Joe as “Bush’s love child”, HILLPAC just cut a $5K check to Ned’s campaign…yikes!
MommyBrain!! (thank you for your kindness)
The space bar functions as ‘refresh comments’ in Firefox, instead of page advance . . .
Sometimes it works, but I think if the focus is on the Refresh Comments button, the spacebar is the same as a button press (this is a Windows or Firefox thing, and I think an IE thing as well, not a WordPress thing).

speak english man! don’t make me get out the arguements for ‘english only’ that lotus posted some days ago…
Is the spazeboy still functioning?
New Haven Notes from the Lieberman party: “[T]he secretary of state’s website, which is supposed to be doing live reporting of the precinct tallies, has also been overwhelmed with traffic and has been down most of the night. Was that hacked too? Or maybe the state has the same $15 month hosting plan that Lieberman has.”
That poor little kitty looks just like Joe….
When he found out he lost.
Is the spazeboy still functioning?
Yes, he’s quite refreshing, and not at all of a downer.
Re: “moving on.” That’s what Kerry did after he saw the swiftboat ads. Not a winning strategy.
One of the things the Clinton campaign had in ‘92 was a rapid-response policy. 30 minutes, if I’m not mistaken, to respond to any charges.
Watch Joe continue to wail “they cheated…” if he’s allowed to.
John B. @ 27
Ned’s campaign didn’t want anyone to know how narrow their victory over Joe really was!
This was the wittiest sign the right ever came up with:
Time for bed. Sleep well, all you Firepuppies.
The SF Giants aren’t doing too well this year, but they are blessed with a crew of great radio/TV announcers. One of them, a former pitcher named Mike Krukow, likes to trot out an established put-down when a batter strikes out miserably or otherwise fails to achieve something:
“Grab some pine, meat!”
(it means “go sit on the bench, you lunkhead; you’re out.”)
Grab some pine, Joe.

Waiting for the fallout tomorrow.
Heh heh,heh.
HopeSprings,
My sympathy to you – am concerned for Dr. Turtle and you’re well-being too.

In the meantime, Fuckin’ A Bubba – GO NED! Go Roots! Take back our country!
TTL’s of an hour when moving a site, are still far too long IMO.
I set them to 60 when I’m doing work that I might have to back out of…
And sheesh, if you’ve got millions of dollars to spend, why the HECK aren’t they using something like UltraDNS (or Custom DNS) rather than CRAP dns hosting at the ISP/Hosting co. (They are almost always on the same subnet, in the same physical location etc. Any disaster that takes down one is almost certain to take down the other.)
Further, the domain contact record had the billing and admin contacts both as @yahoo accounts. Ah, yeah, my critical clients, I always put crap mail accounts as the contact addresses. /snark!
Further, they give the ISP/Host tech folks admin rights on the domain records, by virtue of being the technical contact. (Another big stupid mistake, IMO. Never let the ISP/Host hold your marbles – they might never screw up or whack you, but why live dangerously – hold them yourself!)
There are so many dumb mistakes the Liberman crew made, that I’d assume the Liberman *losers* ARE the source of the problem long before believing any bogus “hacked” sob story.
But hey, perhaps George Bush could use this excuse. “Ah, yeah, I had plans for Iraq, but my server got hacked and I didn’t have backup, and I had a totally burned on acid technical crew and, well, it’s not my fault. I’m just the decider!”
IMO, Larry Moe and Curley could be working for Liberman and look pretty darn good, compared to the folks there now.
-Greg
I have to chuckle that the prude Joe Lieberman and his censorship tendencies would use godaddy as his host. Does anyone remember their superbowl ad?
You can see the ad here.

MommyBrain…I feel like I know you. My ‘big’ intro to fdl came courtesy of the live stream of YKOS. I saw you introduced and interviewed. I liked you right away. And then i got to hear your ‘voice’ and your passion.
Thanks for being you.
The Harry Reid link was a good idea.
I think it would also be a good idea if Jane, or whoever is in a position to do so, would post a link to Sen. Schumer and the DSCC. He needs to hear from netroots Democrats about the need to get behind Lamont at all levels and in all sectors of the Democratic Party.
We should demand that not one red cent of DSCC money go to the turncoat traitor Bush mole Loserman, and further, that the DSCC as well as the Senate Democratic Party and the DNC take a cue from Senator Clinton and act swiftly and decisively to endorse, finance, and actively support the Democratic nominee Ned Lamont in every way possible.
I have, in the past, contributed to the DSCC, because electing more Democrats to the Senate seemed like a noble cause. I would be outraged if any DSCC money, solicited from Democrats to support Democrats, went to Lieberslease after he bolts the Democratic party.
Anybody have a Schumer or DSCC linky?

Ever been Slashdot’d? It has taken out CNN (not recently — plan for the spikes if you have the money), a huge high-capacity website. Blogs are pushing millions of users simultaneously to one place at the same point in time. Most websites (including the secretary of state’s office, AnyState, USA) are not built to handle that.
It’s not a denial of service. It’s insufficient capacity to handle spikes in traffic.
Can I just mention how proud I am of that rascal Mike Stark?

What stevetalbert 10:25 pm said — today’s hack-tacular story exemplified Lieberman’s poor fit for a seat as Senator in contemporary Congress. He’s on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, for cripe’s sake, yet he had NOONE working security on his website and email?
He’s got nobody technical actual on his immediate staff, but he’s blaming techies either in the Lamont campaign or bloggers for being hacked?
Duh. Thank goodness it was only Joe-nertia’s own servers that were attacked and not our country…
CT-Rex!
And another thing…
It doesn’t have to be tonight, but I hope that maybe by tomorrow we could have a means of contacting Bill Clinton posted prominently in an FDL front page. He also needs to hear from us, and to get the message that Democrats support Lamont, and losers cut and run (to paraphrase Mean Jean).
A week or two ago someone posted a link to the Clinton Foundation. I don’t know whether that is the best way to reach him or not, but he does need to hear from us.
All is forgiven, Bill, for supporting Loserman, he WAS a Democratic senator and all, but the time has come to get right with the Democratic Party and support our nominee. Yeah Bubba. Just ask Hillary. Go to Connecticut and work your magic for Ned. I did not have sex with that senator, Senator Lieberman.

Greg @ 42
I agree. However, I wonder if their DNS provider, secureserver.net, permits TTLs that low. Requiring relatively high TTLs would prevent load storms associated with very low ones.
Or it could be — imagine this — that their tech people just aren’t skilled enough to manipulate TTLs beyond what they read in some manual somewhere.
Regardless, I do not consider a TTL of 3600 to be normal. And if the TTL were the normal 86400 before all this went down, we likely wouldn’t see the change yet from our recursive resolvers.
Thanks for setting it straight. I had to flush the cache from a computer at work for my boss, as well as at home just to read FiredogLake.
Just to let you know, there are folks in my office who read this, but never comment. I think they are called Lurkers. So Joe was real stupid, no suprise. I was reading how Joe had hired this Hot Shot Texas Hosting firm. Gee, would he have gotten that recommendation from Karl? In any event, the article:

How do you ‘unhack’. a website? He’s such a folksie fellow that Lieberloser. I love the Giants, Willie Mays at Candlestick, 50 years ago. It still my birthday, and the last great news was Nixons resignation 8/8/74. You firedogs are true political animals and don’t back off now.

Phew, Tweety’s done tweeting. Finally.
He was completely jacked up, think he was mainlining Ned-renaline.
Heh. About f*cking time.
Big day here, need to tuck in, too. Congressional District south of here did the right thing and got rid of Schwarz, who’d gotten money from DeLay-Abramoff. Unfortunately they selected somebody farther to the right…don’t know yet how they’re going to handle that one.
Lots of work ahead to do, FirePups. 91 days and counting to make this really stick. Catch you in the morning!
One way to contact Clinton might be through his Foundation.
Just one place to start…
So, uh, is this where the party is?
Hey folks!
I think what we witnessed in the Lamont primary campaign was the beginning of how 2006 and 2008 will play out on the web. Tie-ins between bloggers and system failures will be played up by the old school as they struggle to maintain their relavance. Old school pols will be climbing over each other trying to figure out what to do next over the next 48 hours, or maybe all the way to Friday….
This has been one hard fought victory. Plain and simple. Now the hard part begins.
Thanks, everybody here and in that sliver of a state on the other side of this great, wonderful, flawed country!
Just got back from the victory celebration at the hotel. I live in NY state, and had the most blissful cruise home through the small towns and countryside of northwest Connecticut under a full moon. I was sort of levitating, and the car somehow found its way to my house.
Hung out a bit in the blogger’s corral as the election results came in, got to say Howdy to Jane Hamsher, Chris Bowers, Matt Stoller, Atrios, and Bob Geiger. They were merryily typing away and seemed to be enjoying themselves thoroughly.
What happened for me this evening was that I sort of turned the corner from just being anti-Lieberman to actually feeling strongly about Ned Lamont as a leader. His victory speech was clear, classy, and got me thinking that he might be Presidential material someday. The Democratic party has got itself a new star.
Hey SteveAudio

Mrs. Clinton will contact Mr. Clinton. Hillary needs Ned, or at least needs to support him and marginalize Loserman.

Except that Lamont has nothing to do with it. Let the FBI deal with it. Responding to it ties the Lamont campaign to the issue. We don’t have access to the server logs so we can’t refute it.
We’ve got dozens of people on our side saying that Lieberman paid only $15 a month and that the site wasn’t hacked. Neither of those are facts. We don’t know what they paid and we don’t know what happened. Let the authorities work it out while we talk about actual issues that matter.

I wouldn’t recommend using the event form at the Clinton Foundation. It’s probably routed directly to someone like a scheduling secretary, and she (or he) is probably busy enough.
The general contact form is better in this case; whoever has access to that expects to get nearly anything via email and will know best how to direct it to the proper party or parties.

Tweety talked to and about everybody except Ned. They trotted out the dismissive ‘angry’ won’t win.
I think what has bothered me most is the pundits talking about the Democratic voters of this country in the same terms they use to describe the people killing our soldiers in Iraq. I think they should be called on this every single time. It is a vile technique they use to mold public opinion and ought not to be in their job description.
My fingers are almost gone from live blogging all day for CT Bob, but what a day! You were all there with us, believe me. I’m going to bed — when I left the hotel, Bob was going to the hospitality suite to party.
I was so happy to find Jane to say goodbye — FDL was such a catalyst. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get FDLers in the same place at the same time for a group photo — we are all hoping to have a date same time same place, same result on Nov 7.
G’night.

“I am a lifelong Democrat. I have contributed to DSCC because I think electing more Democratic senators is a worthy goal. The Democrats must take back the Senate and restore democracy and the balance of powers to our government.
I am writing tonight because Ned Lamont has won the Connecticut Democratic Primary. Sen. Joe Lieberman, formerly a Democrat, has bolted the Democratic Party and is running AGAINST the Democratic nominee. He seeks to stymie the will of the Democrats of Connecticut. He threatens to be a spoiler who gets the Republican candidate elected. That would be the loss of a Senate seat that we CANNOT afford to lose.
Sen. Schumer, on behalf of the DSCC, should announce on Wednesday, August 10, that he and the DSCC stand firmly behind the Party’s nominee for the U.S. Senate from the State of Connecticut, Ned Lamont. He should announce that they are going to be funding Lamont’s campaign at a substantial level and actively encouraging other Democratic senators to support him. Most of all, he should make it crystal clear that they do NOT support Sen. Joe Lieberman (CfL-CT). By announcing his independent campaign AGAINST THE DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE AND THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY, he has forfeited any right he might have had for their support.
Stand tall for the Democratic Party. Stand tall for Ned Lamont. Show Joe Lieberman to the exit door. Thank you.

True, and it’s also worth noting from this story that Lieberman’s new host, GoDaddy, is a notoriously cheap-ass, $5/month shared-server type outfit. More evidence that Lieberman’s web idiocy was his own doing and that his accusations are scurilous and pathetic.

Sounds to me like Joe went with the cheapest service possible because he didn’t want to have any more contact with those peons known as “constituents” than absolutely necessary. Give people a functional website, they’ll send you email demanding all kinds of ridiculous favors, just because technically Joe might be “serving” as their senator. Joe needs to focus his attention & save all his energy for meeting the demands of his corporate overlords, and the CEOs of Big Pharma and the insurance industry don’t need no stinkin’ website access — Joe’s private cell number is on their speed dial already.
I haven’t seen the Wonkette piece mentioned:
“Hello, this is Kerry Szeps, owner of 2Dog Media, LLC. … 2Dog Media, LLC has not hosted the joe2006.com website for over 3 months. When the site was hosted with us, it was on a dedicated server with unlimited bandwidth and daily server back-ups. The Lieberman Campaign was paying much more than $7 a month for this service. The campaign manager, Sean Smith, came on board and decided he would rather work with a friend of his that he had worked with in the past. Since then, our company has not been in charge of the hosting services. … “
So, for Joe’s campaign, it was imcompetence and cronyism, followed by refusal to take responsibility.

My, how convenient to have a friend running the website of a Senatorial candidate. No favors to call upon there to, oh, you know, make a site look like it had crashed. That, or it was just plain crony incompetence. I’d like for it to be the former, but my brains (and guts) tell me it’s the latter.

He has lost the Democratic primary election in Connecticut, and has responded by bolting from the Democratic Party that has been so good to him in the past. His independent bid for the Connecticut senate seat may cost the Democratic Party that seat and throw it to the Republicans. This cannot stand.
Please, without delay, announce your solid and unequivocal support for Democratic nominee Ned Lamont’s campaign for the U.S. Senate. Announce that you will be helping his campaign with funding and personal appearances. And most of all, prevail on Sen. Lieberman to do the right thing and give up his foolish dreams of getting elected as an independent. Help to rally Democratic officeholders behind Ned Lamont and discourage them from supporting Lieberman now that he has lost the primary and left the Democratic Party.
I voted for you in 1992 and 1996 and have always appreciated your leadership. Use it now to make things right in Connecticut. Thank you.

I shot a few photos at the Lamont shindig tonite, but don’t know anything about how to make them into a slide show or a link. If anyone can manage this, shoot me an email and I’ll send the images to you and we’ll get them up for everyone to enjoy.

tpmmuckraker is reporting that the FBI is investigating the Lieberman web problems and that the information on Wonkette was not accurate. They also are saying that they were paying $150 a month for 400 gigs of bandwidth.
Lamont’s victory is more important than we can adequately describe yet, but it is also very minorl in terms of the vertical curve we have to climb in the next 90 days.
Lamont shows that it can be done and how close it will be.

There’s plenty of room for all of it. If you hadn’t noticed, the GOP has been successful by utilizing a multi-front approach. They have their thugs do their swiftboating, they have Bush and a handful of others do the bullet talking points, and they have the more articulate spokesmen in the party do the heavy lifting: Explaining the policies, and even then, not so much.
They manage to have time enough and people enough to do it all.
What’s important is to keep telling the truth, about everything, until all of the lies and liars are discredited.
Do you believe we have to beg our party leaders to support the fair and square winner of our party primary? What the hell is this?
Get with the program people!

Stephen,
Yes, and from the companies Lieberman hired. Wonkette has posted a retraction, though.
If there was an attack (a huge if) these guys were woefully unprepared for it. All their email folding when the site was crashed is inexcusable.
If there was any nefarious activity, the FBI should be able to figure it out very quickly. Why they couldn’t figure out the source of the “attack” already implies they’re either unable to read a log file or there simply was no attack.

SteveAudio @ 153
(ooof) or, yeah
Just saw this quote — no linky, though…
“Even before Mr. Lieberman conceded last night, Lamont advisers were making plans to pressure him to drop out if he did not do so on his own. Tom Swan, Mr. Lamont’s campaign adviser, said last night that the candidate would appear on television morning talk shows to call on Mr. Lieberman to respect the will of the Democratic majority, and then send the same message at the unity event this morning. Mr. Lamont also intended to call national Democratic leaders in Washington, including Senate colleagues of Mr. Lieberman, and ask them to speak to the senator about dropping out, Mr. Swan added.”
Guess I need to get to bed so I can check out the morning shows.

Like in 1986, how the FBI investigated the “bugging” of Rove’s office after Rove implied that the Democratic opponent of Rove’s candidate planted the bug?
Like how the FBI investigated the anthrax mailings in 2001?
Like how the FBI investigated the White House leaking of Plame’s name?
I don’t think so, toots.
I think the democratic base needs to get that we’re in this alone, and all we’ve got is each other. The FBI is an arm of the Oval Office, and they have proved that they do Bush’s bidding, not the bidding of the people.
It falls to each and every one of us to keep all of these stories in the forefront of voters’ minds, until they can see just how corrupt all of these people are.
I think what has bothered me most is the pundits talking about the Democratic voters of this country in the same terms they use to describe the people killing our soldiers in Iraq.
Yeah, I caught that too. We are all of us “insurgents” now. Well, I’m proud to be a malcontent when it comes to Bushco and Lie-Bore-Man.

Anyone who’s still up should write tonight to Reid and any Senator they may have with a (D) in their name. If Joe is going to bow out, it will be tomorrow.
If Reid, and your Senators, come in at 8 in the morning to find hundreds of letters time-stamped at 3 AM, they will find it very sobering; possibly even spine-inducing.

Dear Mr. Reid -
I hope this message finds you well.
I am writing to you as a lifelong Democrat who is appalled at the selfish and disloyal actions Sen. Lieberman has announced he will be taking. Not only is he turning his back on us, he intends to actively oppose us. We cannot allow this to stand unchallenged.
Please, please, please kick him out of the Party, and remove him from all his Congressional Committee posts. We don’t need to HELP him in his reckless attempt to divide the Democratic party.
Thank you very much.
prostratedragon @ 211
The assumption is that Lieberman as an Independent candidate will split the Dems and secure a Republican win. Or they simply want Joe to win and not run their own candidate.
It’s complicated and in time we will see polls showing how a 3 way race could look.

Good lord! Do we really nead another “technotard” in the Senate? Stevens “the Internet is like a bunch of tubes” writing Telecomm legislation is bad enough! Joe should maybe drop out of politics until he’s taken an “Internet for Dummies” course.
Poncho & Lefty @ 1:41 am (#213) – I think there will be a similar dynamic in the general election, though. Few voters know much about Lamont at this point, other than what they’ve heard said about him on the TV. So, once again, the balance of the race will change as he becomes better known to those people. I think the “three way split” thing is wishful thinking on the Republican’s part given how weak their candidate is, but who knows?
Ruthie @ 2:02 am (#216) – Frankly, after hearing the debates on net neutrality a couple of months ago, I’d have to say that one technotard more or less won’t change things much.
Fini -
Yeah, I’m here. I work the graveyard shift, and for the moment it’s quiet. (Hope that lasts! It’s been hell the past couple of weeks). I was going to sleep-in till 9pm today, but woke up at 7pm, and could not go back to sleep because of all my anxiety over the election results (the numbers were still close at that time). So I just got up and turned on the TV and computer. Got to see Lamont’s speech. Couldn’t bare to watch Lieberman’s, and it seems like that was the right choice. Sounds like he made one hell of a nasty “concession” speech.
I’m reading some good things about what may be happening over the next few days. Stuff like this (tinyurl link to NYT):
Also, I think I’ll refrain from writing to Boxer for now. She’s not in leadership, and I was satisfied with her earlier promise to “deeply respect” the voters of Connecticut, which I took to mean she wiould support the winner of the primary. This could change, of course. But for now, it’s all good.
Oaktown Girl @ 219
Joey Lies is a putz extraordinaire, that concession speech was insulting and dishonorable. I hope he becomes as radioactive to the Dems in DC as it appears as he is becoming from all the rats jumping ship tonight as evidenced by Evan Bayh, John Edwards, Hillary Clinton and others that have already endorsed Lamont.
GSD @

Dipsh*t. Liberals don’t wear pajamas. That’s why there are more Democrats than there are Republicans.
Then there’s this, from Lieberman water carrier Susan Haigh:
Forcing? Forcing? Oh well. It is Joe’s seat, after all.
Cujo359 @ 218
One more “technotard” in congress may not change things much, but as a soundbite, the word “technotard” is pretty unsinkable–even by the swiftboaters.
Excellent catch on that “forcing” comment. Gotta love that msm spin.
I’ve just been to Crooks and Liars, and I see just how Huge the “hacking” story was today. Not only does Lamont’s camp need to come out strong refuting this, they need to go on the offensive and demand an apology from the Lieberman camp.
Some of you may disagree, but ignoring vicious attacks NEVER pays off (Kerry, anybody? Dukakis, anyone?). Lamont’s camp HAS to go with rapid response. If the hacking lie is left out there unchallenged, eventually it just becomes the “truth” as its repeted and repeted over and over by the msm until it’s just part of the collective understanding of what happened on that day.
Fini- had the same problem. But now, with the help of C.C. I think I can crash. Goodnight Mrs. Calabash(hope I spelled that right)wherever you are.
WooooHoooo! Go Ned! Had to say that here since I couldn’t any comments to load last night (OMG, you’ve been like, hacked or sumpthin!) and couldn’t join in the reverie.
Lieberman wants an investigation into what happened, great. Do it. Just remember the FBI looked into the bug in Rove’s office in TX during the 1986 governor’s race. They’re the ones who discovered the battery in the bug had only 15 minutes of use. Bush’s Brain-DVD or book.
The Rovian-like plan is for the investigation to continue until after the election, when the Lamont campaign is cleared, but (the GOP hopes) it will be too late. And the media will never notice.
Except for one thing. Us! We, the informed, active, netroots, are here to push back. There was nothing like us in 1986. Let’s force them to change their playbook. Let ‘em know the game has changed, and put them on the defensive. Heh, heh, heh. This is gonna be fun! :)

“Music embodies feeling without forcing it to contend and combine with thought, as it is forced in most arts and especially in the art of words. If music has one advantage over the other media through which a person can represent the impressions of the soul, it owes this to its supreme capacity to make each inner impulse audible without the assistance of reason… Music presents at once the intensity and the expression of feeling. It is the embodied and intelligible essence of feeling, capable of being apprehended by our senses. It permeates them like a dart, like a ray, like a mist, like a spirit, and fills our soul.”

Oh, Old Sow, fresh green beans, thank you for mentioning that. I’ll do up green bean almondine tonight, to go with broiled chicken (the trick is to toast the almond slivers with a bit of butter first)
And if anyone is curious, the peach bread experiment was not a success, apparently it’s a lot denser than applesauce (called for in the recipe) so I now have a brick to edge my garden with.
Didn’t mean to leave you out, Tommy, in my greetings. This is a very cool coffee klatch (or tea as the case may be( with which to start the day.
Aw, Lotus, right back to you.
Ok Lotus, thanks so much! (Blushes a bit.) I love you guys as well. Now, back at it!
Beard, I’d try it with peach chunks instead of sauce, or maybe do something with the sauce folded into whipped egg whites (that’s off the top of my head not from any recipe I’ve ever seen.) I have a little peach tree that has more fruit on it that ever before (global warming?). Now the race is on to see if the fruit will swell and ripen before the first frosts…….

Green beans, yum! Here it’s eggplant, okra and peppers. The peppers are weird little things about the size of a thumb that we eat whole, always cooked: “shishito”. No de-seeding, and they seem to be very close to a wild variety, as they vary greatly from sweet to mildly bitter to sometimes very hot-n-spicy. The Japanese aren’t super keen on hot peppers; a few of my friends, when they are surprised by a hot shishito, think aloud: “Aww, miss!” When I do, I tend to say, “Yea! Hit!”
Happy vegetables, happy dancing, happy primary, let’s get to work now. We know the Lieberputz fandango will take up a lot of MSM over the next coupla months, and they’ll ignore a lot of important contests. Who ELSE’s back should be be covering for the next few weeks? Tester comes to mind first…..
Egregious– a toast to you for your unstinting generosity and kindheartedness as you work on behalf of the better side of humankind……….the side that cares……….welcome home….
lotus, and everyone lotus mentions:
Love? Hell, I LURVE you all !!!
egregious!!!!
I am off to work on the article, but I dialed up from upstate NY just to snoopy dance with my friends for a few.
Neeeed! Seeing Ned give his victory speech was a huge reward for X-number of phone calls and standing in the parking lot in direct sun at X-polling place out in the country. (I got quite fond of the Malloy folks though. I owe them big for water, tape, morale, & a few laughs etc.) Only one voter asked me who was responsible for the downed Lieber website, as if I would knew personally who was responsible. Achh Lieberman is running in circles because he just doesn’t get it.
This morning I saw Lieberman on CNN complaining how Ned stands for “extremists” in the party. CNN person asked him how 60% of CT voters (against the war) could be called extremist. Otherwise they CNN, & other channels seem quite sympathetic to our soon to be ex-senator.
Has anyone seen any more information about the A Team of US military planners who have been sent to Israel to work out a strategy for a first strike, presumably on Iran and Syria, using cruise missiles? Someone here posted a link yesterday but I’ll refrain for searching for it in the avalanche of comments.
Here comes tommy yum, and there’s hugs all around! And kisses too!
I hear LieberLIAR has been all over the morning talk shows calling Lamont an extremist and the those who voted for him angry partisans….BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHAHAHAHA
Sounds like a Miss Piggy Rove line to me.
Old Sow – I didn’t know we sent Mr. T to Israel.
Ned live on CNN in 12 minutes!

Mornin’ Tommy. How ya doin’ today.
*SMOOCHES* to tommy and *ilson and Franco and mui, and anybody else who’s wandered in as I typed this!

I’m a little hungover, twolf, but in a great mood.
love that sugar, lotus!
Greetings Gang!
First a big shout-out to all the FDLers who worked their butts off for this victory, and most especially to Jane, Christy, Pach, and TRex.
My peanut was up at 6:00EST, so I got to watch NBC Matt whatever his name is interview Joe. What a weird start. They had Joe on, they had Mr. Meet The Press, but nothing from the Ned camp.
Joe’s framing:
t’s all about the war
and
It’s all about partisanship. Ned is an angry, divisive partisan.
So my question: In Joes’ theoretical world, where he wins the indie run…Who is he going to caucus with? How is he going to get commitee appointments? Who will he have to “sell” to get a committee appointment?
Cause the boy is going to get NOTHING from either side unless he caucuses with them…more than “90%” of the time.
Talk to me about anger and divisiveness?!?
btw – according to MSNBC, we are the extreme left anti-war defeatist party
Did anyone read this one about the oil spill caused by Israel bombing a Lebanese power plant?
http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20…..0808160758
“We are dealing with a very serious incident and any practical steps are still constrained by the continuation of hostilities…”
Time for the Israliens to get with the peace program………eh?
And enough with the extreme left anti-war defeatist party appellation..how about the Peace & Justice folks!!!
Those studio-bound weenies are SOOOO behind the curve, we can’t even see ‘em in the rearview mirror anymore. Po’ widdle thangs.
When people like Hannity and Coulter talk about us potentially hurting the party, we’re on the right track.
They are truly having to suck on it today. Me likey.
OS – I’ve been following that story. Apparently the ’spill’ is huge and I guess it’s been there since early on in the war.
I’m TYREd of the war in Lebanon. hahahahaha
the difference in the crowds onstage with Ned and Joe is revealing — Joe’s backers were as white as a GOP rally — Ned was surrounded with a diverse America. Very telling!
Old Sow, regarding the possibly unripe peaches–I’ve been searching through the cookbooks over here, somewhere, I came across a recipe for peach pickle that used unripe peaches, and it’s wonderful with beef. But I’m damned if I can remember which cookbook it came out of. I thought it was one of the Finnish cookbooks, but I couldn’t find the recipe in them, or the Amish cookbooks. So I’m stumped. If I find it, I’ll post the recipe in the next “Pull up a chair” thread.
Egregious! You MADE it!
(okay guys, I got it. you can go to bed now. ;->)
You cannot possibly imagine what it means to everyone at FDL to see you posting again, from HOME, sleeping on the porch to hear the crickets yet.
We appreciate the update on your recovering patients also.
By the way, Ohio katydids have been chanting, “DON’T-RUN-JOE, DON’T-RUN-JOE, DON’T-RUN-JOE” all night long.
Hope you can luxuriate in a nice, slow-&-easy day today. Go get a cuppa, put yer feet up on that porch, & enjoy the morning.
Yes indeed. Ned made it too. Folks are pausing to savor those little spots of good news in this poor, overwrought world. Works such as yours are beacons of bright light for us all. We admire you soooo much!

lest it be forgotten — until 2000, the Lebanese city of Tyre had been under Israeli military occupation for 18 years …
Manali Unripe Peach And Chick-Peas With Fennel
Beard, thanks for your suggestion about pickled peaches. I’d forgotten how good they are. My mother made some once when I was prepubescent that I recall in particular. She stashed them in an upstairs closet and when I found them some months later I opened a jar and ate nearly the whole of it in one setting!! I don’t recall any bellyaches, but do recall the lovely clove-y flavour.
Toast from old sow, orange juice from little dog, news from imm at his undisclosed location–good breakfast indeed.
lhp–how’s every little thing, little prop, baby mittens, the writing project that will win thr* elections and save the nation from doom (no pressure!!) :)
*i was gonna correct this a.m. typo but thot, nah, it’s lhp… :D
Wow – good morning, everyone. What a wild night – the worst of which was not being able to get into FDL for the longest time. Just kept refreshing the Hartford Courant’s results and peeking at them through my fingers.
Had a visit this morning from one of my co-workers, who says he’s sure Joe will triumph in the general – that he’s been good for CT and has this great liberal record.
Kind of let him have it with both barrels…in a nice way.
Joe sticking with his “Me, Me, and, oh, did I mention, ME” theme. Pitiful.
BTW, am I the only one whose e-mail address was appearing in others’ comment blocks last night?
Twolf…recipe saved…yum…and thanks
lamont on cnn right now
OS, I never tried it but it sounded yummy. I just did a google search
Hi, Anne! No, you’re not the only one that happened to last night. lhp said something about logging on and freaking out when HYPATIA’s handle/addy came up instead of her own.
Go Ned! Tell that goofus Soledad what’s up.
Good day Anne. I wasn’t “on” last night but heard others commenting on their comments appearing with other’s names earlier in the day. Had to do with the volume of traffic, I recall…something like 13,000 hit an hour mid-day according to Christy…
Thanks *ilson for all your moderating..sure is nice to have such a clean site to visit.
*ilson46201 @ 276
*islon, that’s darn SNARKOLICIOUS! Mmmm!
Here’s Faux News site headline:
Lieberman Loses Primary
Millionaire wins Connecticut nomination
Nice article on Ned and the Grass-Roots/Net-Roots in the Washington Post Online
Never a superfluous word, never a foot put wrong. Incredible human bean, Our Ned.
Ned did good on CNN — Soledad was being a bossy doofus. Poor Ned must be exhausted from yesterday!
How Hizballah Hijacks the Internet
http://www.time.com/time/world…..ml?cnn=yes
“In today’s asymmetrical warfare, the Internet is vital to groups like Hizballah who use it to recruit, raise money, communicate and propagandize…”
Sound famililar? Replace warfare with political world, and Hizballah with grassroots…….
Good Morning. I must say this victory has renewed my confidence and vigor in politics. For Republicans, bipartisanship means do it our way. All decisions were made in the abscence of Democrats which brings us the sad state of affairs we find ourselves in. If the Republicans are truly in favor of bipartisanship, then let them sacrifice and comprimise. Where is it written that all compromise must come from Democrats, and to not do so means that our party has been taken over by extreme idealogues?
didn’t soledad go to harvard? I thought it hard to believe until i remembered that chimpy went to yale
dayum, busy morning here at the dogpound! nice jobs, ladies. take a bow.
5 lessons on blogs, lamont’s victory, and shrimp.
twolf1- titter. yes, yale and harvard should be ashamed.
CNN crikey! How come that let Lieberliar bitch and moan about partisan (so-90s) politics and extremists for x minutes? And the winner of the campaign Lamont gets really short airtime? Or maybe that is my imagination.
…and now for something completely different…
baby pandas
butterstick 2?
Greetings OFG….it’s like saying that all the compromise has to come from Lebanon/Hizballah
Twolf..don’t worry if you never tried the recipe,I can’t follow one anyway……
Swan and Hillsman ROOL!
And it wouldn’t hurt my feelings one little bit if Ned has need of them again for ‘08, if ya know what I mean . . .
Ooooh, Twolf1, thank you, they’re adorable.
lotus (316) I think you’re right. I got into this little argument with a voter who claimed we owe our victory entirely to the blogs. I begged to differ, because I think it gives all of us who wore our selves out on the ground short shrift. I think Swan in particular is very effective.
I remember having coffee with Lady Jane in Tulsa. As we parted company she said she was headed for CT for the Ned/Joe primary. Her face became very grim as she said, “One more Alito on the SCOTUS will set back women’s rights for the next 20 or 30 years. I am not going to let that happen.”
Emphasis hers. Such passion is mandatory from each of us to the extent we can be active to take this country back. Jane Rawks!
And then there’s this guy:
lotus @ 267
cbl said we could sit on the porch together while we wait for the soylent green truck. It made me laugh during [yet another] deeply depressed time and has cheered me to this day when thinking about being on the porch.
You want political paranoia? I work in the former Soviet Union. NSA’s got nothing on them. I assume that -all- of my communications are being eavesdropped. It’s kind of liberating, actually, ok go ahead and listen, maybe you guys will learn about being humanitarian and politically active. I am free to be me.
…and here’s a picture of WATB Lieberman
I am in (not shock but) awe of the power of FDL and others that have reinvigorated the Democratic party. Maybe Washington insiders will start paying attention, maybe not. Regardless, Jane, Christy, Pach, TRex and all the other incredible voices I read on this site deserve a huge pat on the back. Power to the people!! I am so proud of your efforts. Truely inspiring.
CNN – four men arrested in Jill Carroll’s kidnapping…
…another picture of the WATB
I wrote one of our local TV stations as soon as I heard the reporter, Mark Davis, use the word “sabotage” in connection with the Lamont campaign. I asked that the writers “do their homework” before broadcasting this kind of unconfirmed nonsense, especially before a critical election.
I got a very nasty reply…”we do our homework”.
So I sent him back the information that was posted on DailyKos letting the station know what “doing their homework” should have looked like. And I told him they’ve lost me as a viewer.
This was what I got back as a response.
Lieberman needs to explain why he’s shooting the finger to the Democratic voters of Connecticut by refusing to respect their wishes when they selected another nominee. Either that, or just fucking go away. The national Democratic party needs to come down hard on Lieberman for undermining and opposing the real nominee.
tommy yum @ 274
A toast to you and your amazing music!!! :)
Re: joe’s website crash
How did cnn spin it? Did they have their crack internet blog analysts weigh in? Do they still have that segment..I don’t pay much attention to cnn to know.
Courant coverage has this info -
hi everyone. FDL Jane Hamsher NED rawks
JH FDL mentioned on WTIC radio coverage last nite.
Good mornging, gang.
I’m busy transcribing some notes for Client 1 and then I have to go spend the day with Client 2. I won’t be around much today, I’m afraid, but I’m sure you’ll change the world just fine!
Believe me or not it was hard even for me, an Italian living on the other side of the world, to go to sleep yesterday without knowing how this election was going to end, I still remenber how this ended with Kerry … I have keep reloading the website till up to 2.38 am, but then my holiday is still 2 days away so I still have to go to work in the morning…
Ah! I have to admit that the first thing I did this morning was to connect to Firedoglake and take a quick peek at the result of the primary … and behold here I see the fireworks opening Trex post : NED WON ! What a great result! Maybe it sound that I am exaggerating but it was with a huge relief that I saw (finally!) that the political tide is changing in the USA: as someone else posted in the threads during this frantic day the USA I have seen in the news in the last 4-5 years in a scary sight and to see that, little by little, the good people are getting back in charge is something uplifting and inspiring. It is like having seen your best friend sliding down into dementia and madness with no way to stop him and suddenly you see the spark of intelligence coming back to his eyes: you know that is just that, a spark, but you also know that maybe there is way out. And madness is what has descended on the UsA under the Bush administration a contagious madness that has struck down so many of the good things that once were synonym with your nation: the war and the foolish international politics, the incredible arrogance that has led to negate fundamental right as the ones coming to the Geneva convention, the abomination of Abu Graib and Guntanamo (and I really cannot warp my mind around the fact that the people who let this last two things happen where not chased out of town with the maximum contempt… but I digress), the killing of thousand of USA soldiers and Iraqui without any clear reason or target (…no stupid neocon plan need to apply here…) and the list can go on and on.
You may say that I am leaping too much meaning and significance on a simple democratic state primary: well maybe but if I cannot have may faith back in the strength of the progressive and liberal side of the world from the Democratic party where should I go looking for that? In the action of people like Bush, Cheney and the rabid right wing side of the political aisle in general ? I have seen it happening here in Italy where with difficulty and with lot of changes still waiting to happen, a more progressive political approach was finally chosen by the majority (if barely) of the people. I am looking forward to see it happen in USA so that I can finally find myself at ease when looking up to the actions of what used to be the society symbol of the western society.
Gosh ! I have slipped in rant mode again.. Damn! I should watch myself more carefully !
;-)
Ok so thank to all of you Firepups (especially Jane, Christy, TRex, Pachacutec and the rest of the band) : great work with the site but most of all with the great community !
” Siete meravigliosi ! Continuate cosi’ perche’ e’ cosi’ che si fa la differenza e si lascia un segno nella storia ! “
And now please kick Joe’s **s in the general election !!!!
lotus @ 288
Sorry for posting so often am just secretly thrilled by the blockquote possibilities :)
This kinda reminds me of that road rally movie where the guy rips off the rearview mirror and says, “What goes on behind me? That’s not my concern…”
Feels very metaphorical. meta, you out there?
twolf’s 322 is an especially good likeness, yeppers.
Kludgie’s got his A back — WOOHOO!
I’m so sorry I clicked on this article in the Washington Post. I was feeling pretty calm and mellow beforehand War Crimes Act Changes Would Reduce Threat of Prosecution
I loathe this administration

Mornin’ firepups. What a great day this is.
I’m so excited. Way to go NED!
bookwoman;
The facts are still being investigated but Davis defends using the word “sabotage” because the host server tech guy described it as attacks? That still doesn’t pass the “responsible reporting” test.
*ilson46201 @ 291
Two conclusions. Not only are Ned’s supporters actually diverse, but Joe’s people are so tone deaf they don’t understand the need to at least pretend they have minority supporters.
Wanna know how good of a mood I’m in? The guy w the chainsaw next door, who starts in at 730am? doesn’t even make me mad. Lamont!
Can we get atrios to redo that moving visual of the Snoopy happy dance? Nothing else will do.
SNOOPY HAPPY DANCE!!!!!!!!!
ps In the category of husband doesn’t need to know how much I spend on shoes (blush) he said I see “your” candidate won. hahahahahahaha because I spread the multiple payments to Lamont out over so many different venues he doesn’t realize the level of support from here. [humming music and whistling]
Well, it took a while, but here’s my letter to Reid:
To the Honorable Harry Reid, Senator of Nevada:
I write to you today, sir, as an outraged American.
I proudly call myself a Legacy Democrat. Since the time of Jefferson (yes, that Jefferson), my family has supported the Democratic party, and many have served the party in its operations and even as elected officials. I could not wait to be 18, so that I could vote Democratic, and I was fortunate enough to achieve that age during a Presidential year, 1980. I have worked on campaigns as “lowly” as school boards and precinct chairs, all the way up to Presidential campaigns.
The party has changed many times since President Jefferson, and my family has changed right along with it, from Andrew Jackson then the painful years of the Civil War and Reconstruction, to Wilson, FDR, JFK and through to today. My family and I have stood by this party, always.
It is with this sense of history and service that I express my utter horror at having an elected official turn his back on the will of Democratic voters and the Democratic party that have supported him for 30 years. Yes, I mean Senator Lieberman. I’m sure you’ve received many letters about this issue already.
I have had my differences with Senator Lieberman over the years, but the people of Connecticut had voted for him. I believed it was up to them to keep him or remove him, as they saw fit. However, I will not stand by silently as a Senator shamelessly turns his back on the party that has stood by him, all these many years. I certainly cannot abide anyone, no matter what party, who believes that his ambition is more important than the will of the voters. Joe Lieberman is not entitled to a Senate seat. Like any candidate, he must earn it, because that seat is not his. It belongs to the people of Connecticut, and only they can determine whom they believe is worthy of filling it.
Senator Lieberman has chosen to run as an independent. That is his right. However, as Democrats, we the people have no reason to reward this betrayal of the people of Connecticut. They have spoken into the loudest microphone ever known: The ballot box. Yet Lieberman has so little respect for our democratic process that he cannot even support the people’s choice for who to represent our party. Only his own ambitioin and sense of entitlement matter to him.
He does not deserve any perks of his office and seniority, such as committee assignments. He must be removed from all of those, immediately. He certainly does not deserve financial support or endorsements from members of this, our party.
And that is what Senator Lieberman has forgotten. This is our party. Not his.
I expect the Democratic party to support the will of the people of Connecticut and support, in every way possible, our party’s nominee for the US Senate, Ned Lamont. Any Democrat who does not stand by the will of the people is no friend of democracy, and they have certainly forgotten the very essence of what America is about.
I’ve had to support many a candidate I did not like, because my fellow voters chose him or her as the party’s nominee. Better candidates than Joe Lieberman have graciously accepted defeat to another candidate and supported the choice of their party, and the people. That is what America is about, Senator. Anything less is a betrayal of the Democratic party, pure and simple. That is unacceptable to me.
Sincerely,
twolf1 @

That makes perfect sense– if you check out the photo gallery on the front page of WaPo, picture #7, you’ll notice it’s GWB Himself holding the NBC mic!
How much longer can the MSM marginalize majority opinion? It’s absolutely insane. Lamont’s win, along with Tester’s, is bound to alter the adjectives, right? No more of Bush’s “Scion-Fiction”.
Sorry for that.
LJ/Aquaria, you nailed it! Fantastic letter, thank you for writing it.

The source of euphoria this a.m.:
(1) Who cares??? I/we deserve it.
(2) WE WILL NOT BE INTIMIDATED. WE ARE GOING TO WIN.
I think that one has to use this to make Lieberman look like a foolish, incompetent and whimpering loser. Maybe it can be done with humor…maybe it can be done with something with more bite…But the US populace doesn’t like losers and now that Lieberman has lost the meme of “loser” should be draped around him like a shroud.
Kimba, with tears streaming down my cheeks, I’ve emailed what you just wrote to practically everybody I know. Bless you.
Lotus – here’s 2 different versions of those pictures:
WATB
The immensity of the Lieberman debacle cannot be underestimated. When you consider that he was defeated as a three-term senator, a former candidate for VP of the greatest country in the world, a former presidential candidate, an endorsee of the ex-president of the United States, any number of Senate colleagues, the financial support of special-interest lobbyists, and taken to the woodshed by a rank neophyte who had to build a campaign from scratch (yes, we know he has money)…well, this is nothing short of a political earthquake quake Richter scale at least 8.0.
Now, keeping this in mind, for Lieberman to get on the podium last night and crow about losing by fewer percentages points than the ‘pundits’ (his word) predicted, shows a deep disconnect with reality on his part. The man is no longer marginally incompetent. He is a political basket case. Any Democratice politician of major standing who, noting the above facts, still supports Lieberman, suffers from the same disconnect with reality. As such, they need to be shown the exit the next time they run.
Morning, pups! Yesterday was a good day for America, the first of many!
Lotus,
You are welcome! It comes from my heart so that’s what I really feel about this …
P.s : Please all of you try to be patient with my English and my mistyping … Writing as it comes to my mind not always leaves time for good spell checking…
LJ/A, your letter gives me goosebumps, it’s so good.
Nope, twolf, 322 still does it best for me (natural-fibers kind of grrrl that I am) . . . *g*
CNN – An Israeli Cabinet minister says the Security Cabinet has approved a wider ground offensive in Lebanon, wire services report.
Blank Kludge at 5:52:
Interesting how those results completely refute the early spin that “Lieberman would win the cities and Lamont would win the liberal suburbs,” eh?
kimba, your English is lots better than many Americans’ — and ENTIRELY better than our Italian!
Um … would you mind translating that last line from your Language of Music for us ignorant dolts, pretty-please?
silence is complicity @ 249
It may be tough, but it really should be an opportunity. Every time a Club for Growth candidate gets nominated here in VA, the GOP loses a seat. They’re kind of the DLC of the Right, convinced against all evidence that the entire voting public agrees with them that the only issue is that all taxes are bad.

Beard & Lotus:
This old warhorse has seen too many great candidates lose to lesser candidates, and support the chump, with grace and dignity. Because s/he was what the Dem voters wanted. There’s no way I’m not going to be completely pissed off at Lieberman’s last-gasp stab in the Dem party’s back.
Adie @ 292
Adie, thank you for your words of encouragement, from another Ohio gal. I was raised on Matthew 25, feed the hungry, help the sick etc. Reaction? Good list, let’s get to work.
I am the happy beneficiary of the ministry of encouragement. If you can’t go out there yourself, then provide encouragement for people like Jane and Christy and Pach and CTBob and spazeboy that do go into the lions’ den. Speaking personally I would not be alive to do my work, let alone how far we have gotten in our program, without this love.
When our minister asked me to speak to the congregation about our work in Russia, I talked some about loving your enemy, but more about the ministry of encouragement. EVERYONE can do this. I thank you deeply. Boris’s parents, and the parents of the next 2,000 kids we help, also thank you. Team effort.
I just have to say that cat in the graphic cracks me up. He looks just crazy enough to have hacked that idiot’s site just for fun.

“Siete meravigliosi ! Continuate cosi’ perche’ e’ cosi’ che si fa la differenza e si lascia un segno nella storia ! ”
You are wonderful! Keep it going like this because this is the way to make the difference and to leave a mark in History! (capital letter intended..)
Yvonne — Joe has created a 3rd party called “Connecticut for Lieberman” and is running on that new, artificial ticket. He is not running as a legal “independent” — on voting machines, parties (including his) are listed higher than single, individual independents are.
kimba1970 @ 352
Your English and typing are better than one of our most important attorney/commenters. :) :)
Hope you will continue to share your ideas!
EPU’d…Don your hazmat suits…..on Clear Channel, Glenn Beck is saying to the unwashed masses……….looking ahead to August 22…”Is Jesus Coming Back Today”, Bernard Lewis, leading Islamic scholar in the world…WSJ article…date is significant because of Islamic calendar…this date may signify the start of the fulfillment of Iran’s desire to bring about the apocalyptic ending of Israel…all secret things will be tested…the Wurlitzer cranked up & blaring away…and not a word about Lamont yet….
Now…He thought the people of CT would be smarter than to throw Lieberman under the bus……..bwahahahaha…but…. the upcoming BIG WAR will get Lieberman re-elected….
They (the warmongers) will stop at nothing to hold onto their power…
Mille grazie, Kimba!
Old Sow, you’re a braver person than I am to listen to Glenn Beck this early in the morning. I can’t understand why Headline News gives him (and Nancy Grace) a full hour every night. (and then repeats the G.D’d thing again!) when they should be broadcasting, oh, I don’t know…..Headlines!
He makes me cough up a beardly hairball, he does.
*ilson46201 @ 364
Err, I don’t think that’s right. I looked at the CT election law a while back when he was creating his “party” and he only has the pseudo-party because CT requires it. If my reading is correct, there aren’t actual individual independents in CT, just “parties” like Joe’s. I think he would have preferred it to just say “Independent” next to his name, if he could.
GSD (#185):
it is a slam, yes. but then, remember who won. it wasn’t the Russki’s.
egregious and *ilson, re: diversity. My feeling is that Joey-boy seems like one of those uncle types that sees voters categorically: black vote, catholic vote, youth vote etc. When really voters are not so categorical because they are people. Look at Joe’s attempt to garner support from Catholic communities with the short ride thing. That backfired. Most women I know who are Catholics hate the idea of a woman having to carry rapist spawn & support the pill and found Joe’s statement disgusting. Ned is much more savvy and less stagnant in his views as are his supporters I think. IMHO We should bask in our victory for a day or so because online and onground, it seems everyone played his/her part to a tee. Smooch to lotus back.
Top of the morning all.
Now we help Joe see the light.
Oilfieldguy @ 310
OFG!!
Reminds me of marriages that work only because one person totally caves in to what the other demands. It works, sure, but at what cost.
Beard, Beck is foul, no doubt, and one of the major cheerleaders for the War Party. I personally loathe the man, along with his co-hosters on Clear Channel, but I check in and out of talk radio during the day to compare their spin with alternative news sources. I get a lot of my talking points from shouting back at the malign commentary I hear there. LOL
Old Sow, I have to say my housemate will come into the tv room and change the channel, when she knows Glenn Beck is on, she hates having to get the mop to deal with my frothing at him. I’d love to say I can get talking points from watching him, but well…that would be coherent, rather than the growling noises I actually make. (No. I don’t have strong opinions over here, really.)
GSD @ 185
Me, too, GSD. Tweety employed it midday yesterday and the brown-haired bobblehead giggled and oohed and aahed over the new shiny word. Ignoramuses. The word is reflective of their stoopidity– it has zero meaning in a literal sense. “Haddin” is meaningless in translation. But I guess it is fair game for the twits who never battled the invading Soviet army…
ilson46201: (#278)
what a naughty boy you are!
Joe said at one point that Lamont doesn’t have a mandate. I am wondering if Joe does have a man-date still with Sean Hannity.
BTW. Jesus’ General has actually survived Joe’s bunker.
lotus re panda delivery times,
I had two at 21 hours each–dau/married one and son. They had better make it worthwhile with their life accomplishments, that’s all I can say.
The other dau/the graduate–bless you my child. Only 8 hours of pain. She is going to spend the next year as a volunteer teacher in a spanish-speaking country south of here. The married one who is breaking my heart by moving to SF uses her nonwork time to volunteer w a suicide hotline. I should reimburse them :) The youngest is interested in public service–maybe he was listening to my loud rants over the years about egregious actions of politicians…
Ah. The guy next door stopped with the chain saw. Didn’t realize there were so many things to cut. Parallel w annoying bush cutting?
I stayed home and raised these lovely children for fourteen years. No regrets. Now have the time and opportunity to help children in other countries.
“Only 8 hours of pain”—we are not counting the 9 1/2 months before that. Yes! They were all late. Thought last one was false labor because -only- four days overdue.
What web hosting service measures bandwith by the month?
Anyone else find this laughable? That’s close to dialup.
As a point of reference:
- a 56k modem will get you 145 gig /month
- a T1 will give you 3,484 gig /month
i wonder if any of these senators, washington types or whoever that are suppose to “reason” with joe and persuade him to throw in the towel will say
“joe, if you go ahead and run as an independent, how are you going to feel if you lose AGAIN??????????”
think about it joe, think about all the money you’ll save. and hadassah can keep you living in the style to which you are accustomed.
Is that thing a picture of Lieberman after he gave his speech? Is that an actual living creature? If so, please cage it.
I see Joe brings the same profound understanding of the internet as Ted Stevens. I for one don’t mind the word HACK being associated with Lieberman. I think it fits pretty well. When his Republican buddies kicked Clinton to the curb over the Lewinsky affair, Joe stepped into the well of the Senate and gave Clinton his own kick to the nads, just like the bully toady he is. There’s the Senator’s party loyalty. He’s not a Democrat, he’s not a Republican. He’s an opportunist. He claims “parisan politics” is what’s wrong with Washington, but the voters know better. Entrenched power with an arrogant sense of entitlement is what’s wrong with Washington. Senators govern at the will of the governed. You’ve had eighteen years to do it your way, Joe. Time to step aside and give someone else a chance. But no, Joe wasn’t hacked, he is a hack and he is finally earning the title: Sore Loserman.
Jamie did a hell of a job. I didn’t understand all that stuff until Jamie explained it.

Wasn’t Lieberman’s original plan to call his party the “Independent Democratic” party? (Or something similar?)

I swear I heard him say he would run as an “individual Democrat” when he first announced it, not as an independent. Anyone else hear that, too?
