Interesting how many Lieberman donors named Ratner from Ohio are students and homemakers (and all gave the same $2100 amount). It would be interesting to know for whom those homes were being made, since those Ratners don’t appear to be on the list.

As a mostly lurker on this site (but a frequent one) and someone passionately concerned about this race -and others, I want to thank FDL, Jane Christi, TRex and others for having such a wonderful supportive site - and for all that they have done for this country’s political future. My sense (at a distance) of the Lieberman-Lamont race today is (regardless of outcome - and I am very optimistic) - is that Lamont has been impeccable in public forums (no blunders and conveying a sense of real integrity), his staff (and blog supporters) have also been very smart (countering immediately the lies that came up (the fake bumpersticker and others), creative (the kiss), unfailingly hard working (driving “the kiss” everywhere), and moral (none of the trashing of signs of the other side). As I said, I am very optimistic about today’s results, and -additionally - hugely impressed about the whole process and those who contributed to it.

Thank you to all who posted to re-assure me CT does not use e-voting machines. Thank God! I feel a lot more hopeful about today.

For those interested in an astrological outlook of the two candidates, I found this interesting post in Nancy’s Blog. Nancy doesn’t give birth times for either one, but says she believe Lamont will win today. It’s just a brief paragraph (under August 8, 2006 - if someone is reading this after the fact) but for the astrologically-inclined Nancy provides some good details as why she believes Ned will win.

I looked further down in Nancy’s Blog and found this great entry under The Decline of Lieberschnitzle, written July 6th.

Ned Lamont, whose birth date (1/3/54) I retrieved from his very gracious campaign, is under some very promising and positive progressions for the next several months.

I’m not sure all the FDLers appreciate astrology but I can’t help but add this delicious bit when she talks about Lieberschnitzle:

This latter transit [August 6- August 10]suggests a sudden occurrence or revelation that is quite intense that will transform the Senator’s world in a moment. Of further significance is the opposition of transiting Mars to transiting Uranus just a few days after the primary, activating this explosive configuration in Lieberman’s chart. Uranus is like lightning that suddenly shows you the landscape in stark, cold clarity. Natally, Lieberman has Neptune on the Midheaven and a South Node in Pisces. This combination suggests an inability to see clearly, a tendency to self-delusion, and, with his very strong Jupiter placement, some grandiosity. Uranus is likely to come and prick that fantasy bubble in August.

Back to work for me, too. Thanks again to FDL, Jane, Christi, TRex, and everybody who has provided hope to many demoralized Dems all over the world.

i was the lone poll stander in my town of north stonington. wore my ned tee-shirt and waved to all my friends and neighbors. we had a steady trickle of voters during my shift, which was 6:00 am to 9:00 am. i got lots of positive responses and only one negative, from a lady who gave me a “thumbs down” from her car. talked to a few very angry people, too; they were angry at the senator’s abdication of his responsibilities, as they saw them, to his constituents. one fellow was particularly upset by lieberman’s plan to run as an independent if he loses the primary. this man was a military veteran and said, “i don’t want our boys sent to war for a lie.” it was a great morning, which i topped off by going in to vote myself. if my little slice of rural connecticut is any indicator, ned’s got this one locked. thanks to all the out-of-town volunteers, also, who i met yesterday and last night at the hq in new london.

Anne at 101

Exit polls are fun tidbits for us junkies. The semi accurate ones, or at least data from them, start to bubble up a bit after noon and the accurate ones are ready an hour or two before the polls close.

That said, however, the list and data that matter most by midday is the voter list and the list of people who have not voted. Cross checking those names with your identified supporters and then scrambling to get them to the polls along with the after-work voting wave is critical. That second wave, if you will, of GOTV is what gives a close race that extra boost.

So, the short answer to your question is: the raw exit poll numbers start to trickle in at the same time it becomes critical to chase after those Lamont supporters & leaners the campaign has identified from the weeks of canvassing and phone calling. It happens when it is most critical to keep all other distractions out of your head. The only thing for a campaign to trust, all day, is its best all-out effort. Tom Swan is doing a terrific job and I know the Lamont field workers are using the most powerful tool they have, enthusiasm; and they are using it well.

Inside a campaign on election Tuesday, while everyone wants to peek at the boxscore, everyone understands that exit polls stay on ice until the polls close and the champagne stays off the ice until the same time too.

I wish I was there.

My only contribution to Ned from here in IL was some dough and a few of my lonely blog posts.

I am in awe of those of you who have done so much more, and simply want to express my gratitude and respect for all those ground warriors and everyone else who may (and God do I hope so) send a message to DC that people still matter.

“…but when a little neighborhood girl there with her family gave me a Lamont voting card as I was walking in … I was sold.”

It’s a shame that it couldn’t be implied earlier, but it could be a thought that could change many minds. When we cast our votes it must be with our children and grandchildren in mind.

Is endless war the direction we want for them? I think if gently framed in our communities, this could be a powerful addition to the discussion.

Snark gets a Bingo.

Subway Serenade, I want apologize again for my outburst from last night. We’re all on edge around here and I have personal crap going on that has me even more edgy than usual. I don’t usually behave like that and I didn’t mean to go off like that.

FiniFini

Actually I wanted to thank you for giving me a wonderful idea. In Dec 2003 I was filmed for a film called “Diary of a Political Tourist” because of the songs I wrote during the Dean campaign. When it was released, Alexandra Pelosi sent me some 40 minutes of video tape from my interview.

Your suggestion about submitting something to YouTube prompted me to dig out the video tape and start looking for somewhere to have it converted to disc so I can post it there.

As for last night, I realize that each blog has it’s own etiquette, and never thought that a signature link within a post was out of line.

My bad.

oh and one other thing that was too funny about the Liarman clip - when they showed Joe talking, all the volunteers held their signs in front of their faces! You saw Joe and t-shirts and signs…

who holds a sign in front of their face while listening to a speaker? what have they got to hide?

Who holds a sign in front of their face? Just scrolled this far so someone else has already noted: someone who doesn’t want their Rethuglican face i.d.ed on the toobz. Someone who was “there” in 2000, maybe “there” in the Delay staff office as well? The question answers itself, doesn’t it, gang?
