Spoke with Jane this morning. She and TRex were having coffee and then heading out to the Sheraton in Meriden (where all the bloggers will be) to report from there for the rest of the day. Jane will be checking in with me by phone and by e-mail, and she and TRex will also be chasing down leads and reporting directly by posts as well.
It's going to be a busy day here at FDL -- and we are going to try and bring you up-to-the-minute reports as we get them. So hang onto your hats, gang, and keep the refresh button ready. Will let you know as new updates get posted, so you won't miss a thing.
And now, for some updates:
-- Steve Gilliard smacks the NYTimes and Gerstein upside the head for being sloppy, slack, and full of crap. Pathetic, childish, unsubstantiated, fact free...and par for the course for Gerstein's entire involvement in this campaign.
-- Matt Stoller at MyDD has a great breakdown of the last-minute donors to Lieberman's campaign. And it's quite interesting. Lieberman took in $1,343,350 in the last fifteen days. You want to see where it came from, click through to MyDD. You think all that money comes without expectations?
-- Tom Schaller at The GadFlyer is doing some great bits and pieces thinking about the campaign -- and getting a few good quotes. He's got some great thoughts on the ground game that are well worth a read.
-- David Sirota has some thoughts on today's election -- and on the lobbyists who are pretending to be uninterested parties on the side of Lieberman. (That Lanny Davis and Dan Goodstein try to pretend they are disinterested parties just supporting their pal is laughable. That they would use the WSJ to do it...well, that's telling, isn't it?)
UPDATE: And we have this in the comments from reader Snark:
I live in Hartford, and my polling place is at the local elementary school, right around the corner from my house. When I walked up there this morning before work, the Lamont volunteers were right there (no Lieberman people that I saw) and looked like they were ready for the long haul. I was going to vote for Lamont anyway, but when a little neighborhood girl there with her family gave me a Lamont voting card as I was walking in … I was sold.Out there on the streets, the Lamont organization just plain looks honest. These are people who know their neighborhoods, who live here and work here and speak the language (in my neighborhood, both Spanish and English), and who want to be there, with their neighbors.
That’s one view from the casual voter, at least. Good luck, all.
I love these updates. If you are on the ground in Connecticut and handing out literature or want to talk about how things were when you voted this morning, please do so in the comments. We're going to try and highlight the experiences of our readers who have been making calls, canvassing, volunteering and voting -- so please, take a few minutes to share. And thanks!

NED!
I can’t believe I got a 0!
Thanks Christy…can’t wait for the updates.
Dear God, I am NEVER going to get any work done today…
Tom Schaller is great - he covers a lot of local political stuff here in MD.
So close… Yet so fare!
Sending some Aloha to CT from Hawaii!
May the force be with you and the farce be on his way out…
I bleeve you did, Kentucky Woman — congratz!
I had to laugh this morning… on the national news, they showed a clip of Liarman with the cheering LieberYouth and that angry paid lobbyist, What’sHisName and then a clip of Ned with his regular folks…
I’d say if Liarman is counting on his “cheering supporters”, he is in for some serious trouble…
that being said - Please GOD, let Ned win.
Go Christy, Jane, and all Firedog pups on the ground. And especially, Go Ned! Rooting for you all from the next blue state of WY. Cheers and thanks.
Thanks Lotus!
I’m pretty much a lurker here, with very few comments. However, I love FDL and all of the FDL’ers, and I am ecstatic about what we are doing to win our democracy back.
Go Ned!
Go FDL!
Toast!
No, make that toast points!
Make Marty Peretz cry.
oh and one other thing that was too funny about the Liarman clip - when they showed Joe talking, all the volunteers held their signs in front of their faces! You saw Joe and t-shirts and signs…
who holds a sign in front of their face while listening to a speaker? what have they got to hide?
I LURVE that photo!!
NED!
Anything on turnout?

I think it’s gonna be decided by the people who show up!! by the voters!!!”

BAD VOTING MACHINE REMOVED IN NEW HAVEN

Just to repost from the last filled-up thread :

Wishing you luck and good times today from the milk-addled land of Feingold!!

Darling!!!
thanks for the report, Snark…
No problem Lotus, fun to share (from last thread). In case other FDLers missed it, in addition to Christy’s links here, there are links to two posts @#113 of last thread that you might enjoy.
Christy.
Thanks for keeping us informed, and grounded.
Hope you’re feeling a little better today.
It’s gonna be a long one…
We’ll try to behave ourselves, but it’s hard. *g*
Christy - there simply are not words to express proper appreciation of you and Jane for this priceless blog site….a virtual link with sanity, reality and patriotism in the truest meaning of the word.
Sun breaking through early morning fog but am not taking off my Jane inspired Burberry hat for a nan-o-second until the time comes later this great day when Ted is declared the winner. Whoo Hoo!
And as Franco says: can’t wait for the updates.
Am I really supposed to work today? That’s so … unreasonable. I hereby decree that all primary election days should be national holidays. Celebrate democracy! (Yes, I’m a little giddy with nervous excitement, can you tell?)
CHS—isn’t there only one “I” in Meriden?
GO NED!
Excellent articles you linked to Christy, I looooove David Sirota and Steve Gilliard. They know how to keep things focused on reality.
This is going to be a good day-32 years ago, this date, Nixon resigned.

Does that make August 8th Democracy Repair Day?
Snark
“…but when a little neighborhood girl there with her family gave me a Lamont voting card as I was walking in … I was sold.”
It’s a shame that it couldn’t be implied earlier, but it could be a thought that could change many minds. When we cast our votes it must be with our children and grandchildren in mind.
Is endless war the direction we want for them? I think if gently framed in our communities, this could be a powerful addition to the discussion.
Snark gets a Bingo.
Democracy Repair Day — WOOT!!!
First Draft-Dear Joe letter
Athenae has written the most perfect kiss off letter EVER!
Christy, I trust you found some good info on natural anti-inflammatory remedies when you posted about it a while back. You know about ginger tea, yes? Just put a little fresh ginger root in your tea while it’s steeping/brewing; it does help. I hope today is better for you, comfort-wise.
LOL. A caller on WNYC trashing the robo-calls from NARAL and Dodd. Said she always gives $$ to NARAL and won’t be anymore.
Another caller furious not only about Joe’s support of the war, but also his support for Shiavo.
And yet another Lamont supporter on the way out the door to vote.
Southbury — unofficial exit poll, 60 people 60-40% for Lamont.
That’s the trouble with election days: you have to play the game before you get to see the scoreboard.
Thanks to the Nutmeggers who’re updating us with local observations! Some of us have no nails let to bite…
ditto on the bingo, subway serenade!
for all the children in the whole wide world.
Subway Serenade @ 36
Subway Serenade, I want apologize again for my outburst from last night. We’re all on edge around here and I have personal crap going on that has me even more edgy than usual. I don’t usually behave like that and I didn’t mean to go off like that.
FDL rocks! I love this place!
I’ll be on the road today, stopping along the way to check in and keep up with the news.
Jane, Trex, Suin, Christy, yearlyK whizzes, you’re my heroes.
Here’s a report from a lurker - I voted around 8:30 this morning in Stamford - my polling place is the Orthodox synagogue that the late Mrs. Lieberman attended.
There were no Lieberman folks there but a fresh-faced Lamont fellow and a Dan Malloy SUV (Stamfordites will tell you that’s sooooo Dan Malloy!).
There seemed to be a lot of voters considering it’s a primary. Good for Ned, I hope.
Go Ned!!
And for those just joining us, from the last thread, how adorable are TRex and Spazeboy? Have we got the cutest Ned supporters in the blogosphere? Yes we do!
To Ned, the people of Conneticut and all the volunteers, I give you my family luck– The Bareti Luck!
My family were thrill act/daredevil performers from the ’30s to the ’70s called the Aerial Baretis. Whether they were shot from cannons, performed ring and trapeze routines on a 120ft tall sway-pole rigging, or doing a slide for life (think tinkerbelle from the matterhorn, except with your teeth), no one was every hurt so this is my family’s tested luck and it has bailed us out of many a hard time.
GOOD LUCK NED! You have the Bareti Luck behind you!
That picture is so damn cute.
{{{Fini}}}
Nixon resignation anniversay! Now that is great symbolism of out with the bad, in with the good.
Nearly all of the big contributor’s to Lieberman in the past couple weeks are real estate developers.
Is there a bill in the works?
I voted in Glastonbury CT this morning, a town that leans Republican. It was dead quiet there. I was literally the only one in line. Is that a good thing? Outside there was one very cheerful Lamont supporter. And BTW, there was a line for the Republican primary too. Who knew there was a Republican primary today?
Work? Who can work? I’ll be hitting that refresh button every quarter hour.
Fitz!
In 1876, Thomas Edison patented the mimeograph machine . . . can’t you just smell it? (Showing my age, dontcha know.) Mimeographs and elections . . . How’s that for an election day omen?
In 1945, Harry S Truman signed the UN Charter. No whining about the French, no posturing on the deck of an aircraft carrier, no winks and nods to military contractors. Just some good old fashioned alliance building, international cooperation, and planting the seeds of democracy, all for the sake of peace.
It’s a good day for an election. A very good day.
Go Ned!
As we have all been so discouraged for the last 5 1/2 years it is absolutely heartwarming to see the spirit and patriotism at work here. Thanks to all for showing the world that there are still people here in the US that care. This spirit is the rebirth of the movement toward freedom and democracy of the founding fathers. The same intellegence and integrity is at work here. We can take our precious country back. It has begun with many small steps and cooperative efforts and will continue to success.
As a retired educator I see here the best and the brightest. Forward together.
I asked on the previous thread, no answer
any exit polling?
any ideas how this is going?
Read the Steve Gilliard piece: he has really been on fire recently. I am not sure what to make of the space marines, but I like what he has to say. Can anyone give me a few words about who he is and what he’s about?
al-Scoots and angie, may I say how happy it makes me to see you two in real time again, after days of missing out on that pleasure?
fini, there’re multiple unconfirmed sightings of a Domestic Shorthair ward-heeler with unusually wise eyes who’s been all over Connecticut directing Lamont voters to the polls with a deft flick of his tail and/or cock of his ear. We have a suspect in mind . . .

Yep, that’s my guy!
That’s a LOT of money for Lieberman to be raising at the last minute, especially after the recent reports that his campaign has been scaling back its expenses.
Here’s a thought for you.
Maybe he is rushing to get as much campaign money as he can, NOW, while he’s still a Democrat, still in the primary, so that when he blows off the party and goes Independent, he won’t suffer as much from the sudden financial drought which would normally follow.
I’m not sure what the campaign laws say about left-over primary money in Connecticut. If this is the law, and he is really preparing for an Independent run, it really is the smart move for him to do. He will be persona non grata with a lot of his donors if he is still in the race (as an Independent) on Wednesday.
The Lamont bow wave swamps more CW. Last week it was Hillary nutting Rummy. This week…well, check out this national polling result:

Re #52 : I’ll believe it. At my city-of-Hartford polling place, there was a line for the Democratic voting booth and three people manning the registry table, while the single person at the Republican table was keeping watch over an empty booth. Go figure.
Gilliard rocks-NYC attitude, Mets fan, very passionate and knowledgeable about politics, food, military history, and life in general in NYC. Dude is freakin’ hilarious, top three on my blogroll.
When I read the money breakdown, I noticed Leiberman got money from Fannie Mae PAC. Something I never thought about before, but isn’t Fannie MAe a public-private quasi entity? So should they be able to have a PAC if the are in some ways a government owned entity?
Twisted—sorry, no relation…but my evil twin, RGB, has been known to hang out with him.

Steve… Far to early for any kind of a “picture” of trending or such. I know it’s tough but give it a few hours. Luckily for me, it’s 5am here and the Nytol and Bourbon Tottie seem to be enough to overcome my Nedrenaline-fueld insomnia.
Me Ke Aloha Pumehana to all.
Especially you heros in CT. And I don’t mean Jane and Co. (Although y’all totally rock!) I mean the voting Democrats of the great state of Connecticut. You hold the future of our party and this great Nation in your hand and I envy and honor all of you for it.
Bear this in mind… When a bunch of upstart renegades sat down to write our Constitution and they opened with “We The People” You–the great people of CT–are EXACTLY who they were thinking about!
al-Scooter 64, Greg Sargent’s second question from the post you linked: And how much longer will media commentators keep saying that the GOP automatically has the advangage on national security issues?
At least until November of this year, Greg. After that … well, if this race was enough to cause massive pearl-clutching amongst the punditocracy, November is going to be a bumper-crop month for therapists in the D.C. area.
Richard Goodstein, political hack for the old Dem attitude, busily shilling for J-Lie on MSNBC. American Prospect guy keepin’ the truth out there for Lamont.
Thank you Jane, Cindy, and all the FDLers who have made the possible overthrow of Lieberprince possible. I read your blog every day from Texas (where I’m stuck at the moment) or from Auckland, NZ (where I’ve de-camped to spend the rest of the Bush regime’s rule). You give me great hope for America; that not everyone is like the uber red-staters that surround Austin.
I have to admit I am very worried about the possible theft of this primary election by voting machines — do you use voting machines in CT? If so, all your hard work may be at grave risk. I especially worry because (as a computer programmer who worked at one of the voting machine companies, though not in the voting machine division) the talk of the race being very close is what plays directly into the hands of the Rovians who will steal this election, the way they’ve stolen many others in 2000, 2002 (let’s not forget what happened to Max Clelland) and 2004.
Rove cannot let any of the rubber-stamp Congress be voted out of (his) power, so they gin up the presses, declare it’s going to be a close race, and then voila — Rove’s candidate always wins the race, but since the race was always (conveniently) described as too close to call, any calls of election fraud are tamped out quickly by declaring anyone making them a kook, nutcase, conspiracist, etc.
I’m praying for Ned, CT, and the rest of the Union….
According to MSNBC’s “First Read”:
“Quirky” doesn’t begin to describe the perils of exit polling a race like this, from a statistics/pollster point of view. But that’s OK; we can wait . . .
Can’t we?
I just spent two hours in front of my voting place in my town (Cheshire). Went there to poll watch and hand out literature for one of the gubernatorial candidates and ended up unofficially pumping up the Nedrenaline, too. Got a good sense that, even in marginally Republican and make-nice suburban Connecticut, people are ready for change. It was inspiring to be around people who’d sacrificed pay from their hourly wage jobs back home (Ohio, Massachusetts, etc.) to spend a few days on the ground working for democracy, working for change. You’ll be happy to know that Firedoglake was name-checked by nearly everyone, as were Kos, DD, Crooks and Liars and Glenn Greenwald. I smell democracy in the air and it smells niiiiiiiiccccceeee.
Hi Sharkbabe (Susan). Send me your email so we can catch up with each other. Cheers everyone.
Lou Costello @ 67
He’s 52 and from greenwich, CT but I cant find his exact birthdate. Trying to do a chart?
Stuck in Texas, CT uses old mechanical lever-pulling voting machines. Not impossible to rig, but nowhere near as hackable as a Diebold.
Steve –
Steve Gilliard is an African American, graduate of NYU (J-School?) who lives in Harlem. He was a front pager at dKos before he went out on his own; Billmon and Steve Soto (TheLeftCoaster) were dKos contemporaries.
Steve Gilliard worked at NetSlaves and other early Web Content companies — he’s been around. He has a keen mind for military history, and he’s a damn fine writer.
The only beef about him is that he interpreted Team Kerry’s dumb fuck moves as evidence their internal polling had Kerry up by 10-15% — as we now know, it was the Schrum/Kerry axis of political incompetence.
Anyway, I think Steve’s analysis of the Lamont/Lieberman race is on the money — but it still comes down to turnout. Which team will get their voters to the polls?
Go, Team LAMONT!!! Get Out The Vote!!!
lotus #58:
Back atcha!
Was up in Punaiseville over the weekend doing more pre-wedding stuff and visiting with friends, so it was back to sneaking down to the hotel business center at odd hours to try to keep up with FDL posts. I’m afraid I ran down the battery on son-in-law-to-be’s laptop doing the same on Sunday afternoon. Had to have my lotus fix!
Christy,
I’m assuming that’s your daughter. She is adorable.
I will be doing something for the local Lamont campaign here in Danbury later this afternoon, i.e. standing at the polls handing out leaflets later this afternoon or greeting folks as they get off the NYC trains and reminding them to vote.
Like I said, I am so impressed by the organization and coordination of this campaign. Ned runs a tight ship and they are doing all the right things.
I have to disagree with an earlier poster - IMHO I don’t think money trumps passionate, dedicated support and grassroots volunteers. Joe may hire 200 kidz to illegally paper Bridgeport with his posters (and encourage them to sabotage Lamont offices), but that’s hardly as effective as 200 Lamont volunteers who believe in him mind, body and soul working the phones, talking to folks in person - reaching out to other Dem voters with honesty and commitment. You can’t buy that stuff.
Okay, I really have to go and pretend to work now. Catch up with y’all later, Firepups!
Reporting from North Stamford, CT - Prime Lieberman territory.
Turnout is light (139 people as of 10am), and decidedly pro-Lamont. I would estimate that before 9am it was 50/50 but from 9-10 it was at least 80% Ned.
As of 5am there were Vote Joe signs everywhere, by 11am the city sanitation people had thrown them all away.
No lieberman volunteers ANYWHERE. The dem machine had workers out this am, but each offered to me quietly that they supported Lamont.
People are energized for Lamont, with many voters coming over to me, and chatting for quite a while.
Going to phone bank now, and then back to the polls.
Go NED!!!

I thought DC was his current home-town. DC folks get to vote in CT?
Turnout is light (139 people as of 10am), and decidedly pro-Lamont. I would estimate that before 9am it was 50/50 but from 9-10 it was at least 80% Ned.
KEWL, UP! But how can you tell?
Today, we know that Democrats and Republicans can only vote for their own party’s candidate. Low GOP turnout just means that no one can be bothered to vote for a candidate who is running unopposed - Schlesinger - although there are other races on the ballot.
Likewise, a large Dem turnout does not necessarily translate into Ned votes, but it is hoped that many of them are newly registered Dems looking to make sure Ned gets the primary win.
NYT article put up at 10:00 am said that 12 people leaving a polling place voted 9 for Lamont and 3 for Joe.
If exit polling looks strong for Ned, the GOTV effort cannot slack off - they can’t take the chance that those who have not voted near the end of the day will stay home because they think a Ned win is in the bag! Strong exit polling for Ned will pump up the Lieberman effort, for sure.
Stay hydrated, eat frequent snacks for energy, keep your sense of humor, don’t let the LieberYouth bait you into something stupid. Feel the FDL love and energy and heartfelt thanks for all your efforts coming your way. Feel America’s energy.
Good golly, this is some wild day.
This is so exciting, even down here Texas (as a fellow commentor is), it feels so close to home thanks to the wonderful gang here at FDL.
And Christy, though it’s true your readers deserve a lot of credit for what they have done, it really wouldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for the tireless efforts of you, Jane, Pac, T-Rex and the rest for keeping this race up front and center. You deserve a round of applause as well no matter what the outcome.
GO NED!!! GO FDL!!!
Lou Costello @ 93
Why dont you do a chart for the state of CT? Could be just as useful.
On my way out of work , I am just here to see how thing are developing… Belive me or not I am really looking forward to a Lamont victory in this primary … nearly as much as I was looking forward to the kicking out of the “former” right wing Italian government that come to be here in Italy this last April !
As said already I really hope this is going to end with a real change for the democratic party with Mr. Libermann biting the dust and a real progressive politician taking his place: the whole world as well as the USA really needs to see some real statesmen in charge of the government of the only super power in the world.
I just caught the “civil war here, civil war there” performance by Bush on C&L and I still have to pick up my jaw from the floor … f***ing unbelievable !!! Is this guy for real?!!!?
So I just dumped the fate of the world on your shoulder CT democratic primary voters… Am I naughty or not ? Sigh …

OT question for kimba1970:
How’s the kidnapping case of the Italian government against the CIA agents playing out over there these days? Kind of lost in the fog of other stuff over here.
OK, here is my bit which I mailed down today — I have many relatives in Connecticut; mostly in the Ridgefield area north of NYC. My aunt and uncle (in their seventies), two cousins and their five children. My aunt and uncle were lifelong Republicans until the Iraq war started, then they changed, out of protest, to independent/unaffilliated (in 2004). My one cousin is a Democtrat and the other is a cranky yankee independent. Two of their kids (is that second cousins?) were registered Democrats and the other three (in their early twenties) had never registered.
First, I went to work on my aunt who is a serious feminist/charismatic Catholic. I know, strange brew. But she is one powerful lady (like some I have met here). She was supporting Lieberman on the traditional women’s line but was concerned about the war — but she was not personally involved in that issue. Well, I have been sending her links and calling her about how much better Ned would be and kept hitting on the morning-after pill stuff (did I mention that out of the five grandchildren, all are women — and two are single moms). Finally got through to her about two weeks ago and I hav elet her do her magic on th efamily.
All are now registered to vote in the Democratic primary, and all but one are going with my aunt today to the polls. The difficult person has been the always Democrat who has a county job an dshe really like Lieberman. She said she was on th efence up to Saturday, and today, when I called her, she told me, “Ok OK! I voted for Lamont, ARE YOU HAPPY? Will you let me alone now?” and then she laughed.
So, 9 votes for Ned. And my extended family is closer for the experience.
Lou Costello @ 93
I have looked for his birthdata sporadically, so far it doesn’t seem to be published anywhere. Also birth times in CT are private, so we don’t know Joemomentum’s time either, for sure either, though there is a speculative time out there.
Here’s Joe’s data:

Delurking (and trying to finish a painful work project)just to say I’m sending every positive thought east to CT (from WI). I do agree with Matt Stoller’s post…tomorrow will be the “blogosphere’s” worst day no matter what happens, from a spin/PR/ MSM marching rubber stamp journalism sort of way.
We’re tougher though. The everyday working people always are. We get up every morning and do it all over again (oooh, I just had an 80s flashback…I think I just inadvertently channeled Jackson Browne).
My biggest laugh of the last week has been the horror (HORROR!) of the beltway journos, flacks, and politicos–OMG, the proletariat might finally be sayin’ and doin’ somethin’ different than we’ve programmed them to! OMG!
Forward!
lotus @ 109,
That’s just ’cause them FLA Goopers and Aligator Bag don’t know how to cook it right: long and slow and smoked over a low fire - a couple of hours minimum, and all day long if you can do it - so the grease drips out and the meat gets real, real tender.
Anne @ 101
Actually it said:
8 of 12 said they voted for Lamont, there is no word on who the other 4 supported - they may have not said anything.
this is getting TOO exciting
I was VERY dissapointed in how well joe did persuading people that he is a “real democrat’
I thought his last push did the trick and ned would come in second
and the lieberman personel seemed too smug;
“what will lieverman do if he looses”
“joe is not going to loose”
I am energized ned might win, though I am given certain pause
it is possible the ned supporters are more enthusiastic and are voting early
the joe supporters might be voting late
time will tell

I was on the New Haven Green on May 1, 1970 and I’ll be there again tonight. I like to think that St. Genet and Abbie will be there again, too, and that Dave Dellinger and Dr. Spock and Bill Coffin and Robert Lowell will drop by, and that Gene McCarthy, who died in December, will remind us that 2 weeks after he lost the New Hampshire primary by 7 points in 1968, LBJ threw in the towel.
Same game, different take.
Gulf of Tonkin/Yellowcake.
Ok…I’m terrible with time zones. If they hope to have results by midnight in CT, what’s that, 11pm Central? 10? Don’t you dare tell me it’s 1 or 2. There’s only so much coffee I can handle.
I hear there’s a new thread from Jane.
twolf1 @ 123
I’d buy that! Can you get it at Walgreen’s?
Lotlotus @ 99
I engage everyone on the way in and out. People who are voting Ned are smiling at me and thumbs up and taking stickers and chatting. They have made up more than 80% of the people since 9am. And that’s being conservative. Some of the people who don’t engage may have also voted for Ned, no way of telling.
In this this corner of the world, people are p#ssed, and aren’t shy about telling me why.
Ned Lamont was born in Washington DC January 1954

Thanks for the correction, P. Have been reading and trying to work and got that one wrong.
kristinejoy 130 - YES!
BIG round of applause for the Family Immanentize!!!
But we knew you’re an especially-skilled advocate, imm. Now get yer butt back to that magnum opus you’re cooking!
No problem, Anne - same here. It’s just that I had remarked to myself when reading that sentence in the NYTimes that they said nothing of voters identifying themselves as voting for Lieberman.
Peterr
The Berlusconi government played dumb with the Ministry of Justice refusing to even acknowledge the request of the judges to ask for an explanation to the USA and CIA, but nowadays things are different : the whole head of the Italian civil and military secret service is under close scrutiny and the judges already asked for the arrest of about 20 CIA agents that were involved in that mess.
The old right wing lapdog government played lapdog British Style but the game is over… not that Italy has any real power to force CIA to surrender the agents for a trial but at least the case was made that kind of action is not acceptable and as friend of the USA, Italy should strongly oppose the degrading of its behavior on the international scene…
Speaking of trolls, I am always amazed about how “clean” this site is. I don’t have to read through a lot of obvious “crap” that most sites have. Does anyone have a guess as to how much crap is thrown out everyday by filters or mods. I would think that if troll attacks are increasing, it might be a barometer of the increasing influence of Jane, Christy and FDL in the “debate”.
lotus @ 116
Oh lawdy, lotus, you do make me laugh!
Been to various polling places for Ned.
Joe has a LOT more signage, but fewer people.
Ned’s got lots of very nice and cheerful volunteers where I’ve been. They outnumber Joe’s so far from what I’ve seen. To be fair, he only needs one, the alderperson who is machine, knows every face that goes in. Luckily, even though I disagree, the two I’ve spoken two are nice and low key.
Peterr @ 120
I gotta better idea, Peterr. Let’s just don’t and say we did.

Love Lamont. Hate Bush. Disgusted by Lieberman.
BUT PLEASE … I’ve always been turned off by cute kids pushing a cause that they cannot possible understand. I hate it when the anti-abortionists do that with their kids, etc. If you want to bring the kids along and teach them that activism is great, okay … but no way can a child of this age understand what she’s so radiantly endorsing. Politics is about so much more than cute, adorable children and puppy dog tails.
kimba1970 @ 138
Thanks for the update. I knew that the Italian government couldn’t force anything to get the CIA agents, unless they were willing to really get nasty and do something like toss out all the CIA folks posted to the US Embassy as personas non grata - not at all likely, no matter who the PM of Italy is. Still, I think the issue is going to fester throughout Europe, for as long as Bush is president.
DAB @ 8:21 am - “I’m assuming that’s your daughter. She is adorable.”
Yes, she’s adorable. Christy’s adorable daughter is not in that picture.
Lighten up, Robustus. A vote for Lamont is a vote for our children.

Who holds a sign in front of their face? Just scrolled this far so someone else has already noted: someone who doesn’t want their Rethuglican face i.d.ed on the toobz. Someone who was “there” in 2000, maybe “there” in the Delay staff office as well? The question answers itself, doesn’t it, gang?
GO NED and all your CT gladiators today.

Actually I wanted to thank you for giving me a wonderful idea. In Dec 2003 I was filmed for a film called “Diary of a Political Tourist” because of the songs I wrote during the Dean campaign. When it was released, Alexandra Pelosi sent me some 40 minutes of video tape from my interview.
Your suggestion about submitting something to YouTube prompted me to dig out the video tape and start looking for somewhere to have it converted to disc so I can post it there.
As for last night, I realize that each blog has it’s own etiquette, and never thought that a signature link within a post was out of line.
My bad.
I wish I was there.
My only contribution to Ned from here in IL was some dough and a few of my lonely blog posts.
I am in awe of those of you who have done so much more, and simply want to express my gratitude and respect for all those ground warriors and everyone else who may (and God do I hope so) send a message to DC that people still matter.
Thank you, sincerely.

Exit polls are fun tidbits for us junkies. The semi accurate ones, or at least data from them, start to bubble up a bit after noon and the accurate ones are ready an hour or two before the polls close.
That said, however, the list and data that matter most by midday is the voter list and the list of people who have not voted. Cross checking those names with your identified supporters and then scrambling to get them to the polls along with the after-work voting wave is critical. That second wave, if you will, of GOTV is what gives a close race that extra boost.
So, the short answer to your question is: the raw exit poll numbers start to trickle in at the same time it becomes critical to chase after those Lamont supporters & leaners the campaign has identified from the weeks of canvassing and phone calling. It happens when it is most critical to keep all other distractions out of your head. The only thing for a campaign to trust, all day, is its best all-out effort. Tom Swan is doing a terrific job and I know the Lamont field workers are using the most powerful tool they have, enthusiasm; and they are using it well.
Inside a campaign on election Tuesday, while everyone wants to peek at the boxscore, everyone understands that exit polls stay on ice until the polls close and the champagne stays off the ice until the same time too.

Lou @67 “Does anyone know Ned’s birthday stats? When and where?
Lou, I found 1/3/54 on a website but no TOB or location. If you find these, please post. Thankx!
i was the lone poll stander in my town of north stonington. wore my ned tee-shirt and waved to all my friends and neighbors. we had a steady trickle of voters during my shift, which was 6:00 am to 9:00 am. i got lots of positive responses and only one negative, from a lady who gave me a “thumbs down” from her car. talked to a few very angry people, too; they were angry at the senator’s abdication of his responsibilities, as they saw them, to his constituents. one fellow was particularly upset by lieberman’s plan to run as an independent if he loses the primary. this man was a military veteran and said, “i don’t want our boys sent to war for a lie.” it was a great morning, which i topped off by going in to vote myself. if my little slice of rural connecticut is any indicator, ned’s got this one locked. thanks to all the out-of-town volunteers, also, who i met yesterday and last night at the hq in new london.
Thank you to all who posted to re-assure me CT does not use e-voting machines. Thank God! I feel a lot more hopeful about today.
For those interested in an astrological outlook of the two candidates, I found this interesting post in Nancy’s Blog. Nancy doesn’t give birth times for either one, but says she believe Lamont will win today. It’s just a brief paragraph (under August 8, 2006 - if someone is reading this after the fact) but for the astrologically-inclined Nancy provides some good details as why she believes Ned will win.
I looked further down in Nancy’s Blog and found this great entry under The Decline of Lieberschnitzle, written July 6th.
I’m not sure all the FDLers appreciate astrology but I can’t help but add this delicious bit when she talks about Lieberschnitzle:
Back to work for me, too. Thanks again to FDL, Jane, Christi, TRex, and everybody who has provided hope to many demoralized Dems all over the world.

Yup!
As a mostly lurker on this site (but a frequent one) and someone passionately concerned about this race -and others, I want to thank FDL, Jane Christi, TRex and others for having such a wonderful supportive site - and for all that they have done for this country’s political future. My sense (at a distance) of the Lieberman-Lamont race today is (regardless of outcome - and I am very optimistic) - is that Lamont has been impeccable in public forums (no blunders and conveying a sense of real integrity), his staff (and blog supporters) have also been very smart (countering immediately the lies that came up (the fake bumpersticker and others), creative (the kiss), unfailingly hard working (driving “the kiss” everywhere), and moral (none of the trashing of signs of the other side). As I said, I am very optimistic about today’s results, and -additionally - hugely impressed about the whole process and those who contributed to it.
Interesting how many Lieberman donors named Ratner from Ohio are students and homemakers (and all gave the same $2100 amount). It would be interesting to know for whom those homes were being made, since those Ratners don’t appear to be on the list.
