Jane “Fuck ‘em hard” Hamsher!
Go Ned!
Arbogast put it best IMO.Good luck and God bless everyone involved.
GO NED!
NED!
NED! Thanks for challenging Lieberman!
Jane! Thanks for covering all of it!
ROOTS! RULE!
Jane THANKS for keeping us informed with the realities……..STAY WELL!
Just can’t wait for Sen. Weaselman to go down.
Jane, you are cordially invited up here on the Maine coast for some relaxation. All at FDL are the REAL patriots!!
last spring in Indianapolis, I had a problem at my polling place with hired homeless guys passing out opposition literature. I simply gave them an additional $20 to slack off and not hand out their shit. I was on-site to supervise them and their opposition handlers werent. The guys still got paid for showing up and then also got paid extra to do nothing!
I don’t get this. Why is Lamont’s canvassing operation so slipshod by comparison? He is running this race like an amateur (ok, a newbie, which he is). Is it too late for Lamont to dump another million or so into the race and hire his own canvassers (or Lieberman’s)?
No Diebold in CT — it’s all oldfashioned clunky mechanical machines with curtains and a loud lever…
Yay Jane! Yes fuck ‘em hard, then fuck ‘em harder for good measure. We’re taking our country back.
No Diebold in CT — it’s all oldfashioned clunky mechanical machines with curtains and a loud lever…
And thank God for that. Joe’ll have to steal this one fair and square.

HAHAHA!!! Who hired them? Was it that guy that ran against Julia?
a great job all around.
i want to see that scumbag lieberman rolled out of office like the bush enabler that he is.
he screwed gore’s chances in 2000 and then folded when we should have fought.
now he wants to fight? fuck him.
as nelson would say, smell ya later, joe.

He either finds it much easier to view Democrats as enemies than Republicans, or else deep down, he loves his CT Senate seat more than dreams of the White House. Or, um, Naval Observatory thingy.
Longtime reader, first-time poster.
Anyone else have an AWFUL feeling of foreboding?
I remember some weeks before the 2004 election, when it looked like things might go Kerry’s way, Kitty Kelley–who had just written a book on the Bush family dynasty–said this in response to a question about who would win the upcoming election (paraphrasing):
“Are you kidding me? These people [the Bushes] do not lose. Bush will win. Guaranteed.”
(Obviously Bush ‘92 was an anomaly, right? Or just Roveless?)
I think we’re up against too much. You all are fighting the good fight (and I’ve given over $200 to Lamont), but I smell loss–and a rat.

Do you not understand the machine politics concept? Lieberman has an 18 year old machine, Lamont has a six month old machine. Defections to Lamont have helped, but its grass/netroots supporters, locals and assorted others for Lamont vs. union bosses, precinct committepeople, old line party bosses and paid organizers in Lieberman’s camp. That the race is this close from grass/netroots support and ad buys is why this race has gotten so much attention, it is a NEW WAY TO CAMPAIGN.
thanks for providing such a phenomenal birds eye view of this election jane. this has been a really great ride. no matter the outcome.
On Keith Olbermann, Howard Fineman just announced that the blogosphere and “anti-war” folks have driven the Dem Party into the middle of a Civil War!
Holy crap Marge, board up the barn and get the young’uns into the cellar!

Yup — Kris Kiser who spent $200,000 out of his own pocket to get 4000 votes — 11% of the vote.
Kurt – lol!
On Keith Olbermann, Howard Fineman just announced that the blogosphere and “anti-war” folks have driven the Dem Party into the middle of a Civil War!
Okay, so let me get this straight…
Iraq: Not Civil War.
Lamont challenging Lieberman: Civil War.
I must need to recalibrate my civil war sensors, ’cause they’re clearly all out of whack.
Here are the inteviews that spazeboy captured from local tv of Ned and ANGRY RGJoe
Kurt, ROFL, well now I’m not sure for what reason I should piss my pants! ;)
Kurt – lol 707!!!
workers for NED, thanks all!
Sleep tight knowing you gave it all you had.
I hope the loss by Lieberman tomorrow plunges us into compassion and gets the USofA back on the right track.

Holy crap Marge, board up the barn and get the young’uns into the cellar!
To paraphrase something I believe Jane said recently that cracked me up on this – Howard Fineman clutches more pearls than a porn starlet. I really wish the hyperventilating over the voters rising up to reclaim their party would come to an end.
(Kurt, can ya tell we liked that one?)
“They will vote their wallets…” so say two CT voters I met in a hot tub somewhere off the coast of Alaska. They knew about Ned and were amazed that some crazy guy in a hot tub was so fired up about him. Those two know that we need to RICO BushCo. They also now know that they are the holy grail for Dems everywhere. I hope they realize that if Lieberman is actually reelected then the CT senate seat will be ground zero for a Rove and switch — Joe comes in from the cold to run things at war central and guess which Republican appointee takes Joe’s senate seat.
So a vote for Joe is a vote for a republican — both now and after he sheds his DINO skin.
this isn’t a civil war in the Democratic Party — merely an insurgency ! (kinda like 1776)

Oh My God, what an ass. Who the hell do these people think they are? Yeah, it’s all about the war, Howard, that’s right, Lieberman never hugged and kissed the damn cowboy President, now did he?
GRrrrrrrrr. Oooh, I forgot about the anger!! Better go light some incense.
GRrrrrrrrr. Oooh, I forgot about the anger!! Better go light some incense.
I think you’re already incensed enough.
It’s also not a level playing field because Lamont is friggin’ gajillionaire. Just think what MSM would do to him if he wasn’t.
On another note, my husband bellowed, “Are you ready to be blamed?” as I walked through the front door tonight. “The television press is ready to blame all of you when Lieberman loses tomorrow.”

He’s right.
And by “all of you,” he meant bloggers.
Eli, you are a funny guy.
lotus, honey, help out a girl here…
707??? New lexicon?
please define, zen must be uptodate with firedoglakese.
Thanks.
And by “all of you,” he meant bloggers.
Well, yeah. We’re trying to lead the Democratic Party down a false path of radical angry unelectability, don’tchaknow.
Look at zennurse, for example. Completely unhinged with rage.
The blame game….LOL
lest we forget: the entire Lebanese city of Tyre was under Israeli military occupation for 18 years from 1982 to 2000 …
I agree with this article ….
“Lieberman says Connecticut voters who oppose him have forgotten September 11 and are soft on national security”
From Americablog.blogspot.com
And remember — Iraq had NOTHING to do with 9/11.
Eli, you are a funny guy.
I’m sure I’d be even funnier if I weren’t so cranky and bitter. Then again, maybe not…
Oh, Eli, that was good.
Leslie, I got EPU’d, please tell me how you were transformed to Nefarious. I love it, it has that “egregious” edge…
Go NED!!!!
If I weren’t unemployed I would fly out there to help…
BTW, for some fun reading…

(Kurt, can ya tell we liked that one?)
It’s just mindboggling how stupid these pundits are hehe. OMG the voters are voting! It’s the end of the world! I gotta wonder if they know they sound ridiculous, or if it’s just their script.
In honor of our Civil War :)
I did, puke, puke, agree w/Fineman on one thing -
regardless of tomorrow’s outcome, it aint over between us and our insulated Dems in DC. now that I have a firm grasp on what “entrenched” really means (thank you Barbara Boxer!) I will die fighting this crap ! y’all are gonna start listening to your employers or ya gonna spend more time with Andy Card’s family!
From Drifty:
I recently sat down with Lieberman campaign strategist Ronald Dumsfeld, who explained that, “We know where the votes are.
They’re in the area around Tikrit Torrington and Baghdad Hartford and east, west, south and north somewhat.”
“We have seen intelligence over many months that the voters are there. They’re dispersed and ready and, in one case at least, the command and control arrangements have been established.”
When pressed on his campaigns plummeting numbers and what looks like an epic beat-down at the polls, Dumsfeld said, “Well, I don’t think it’s likely to unfold that way, driftglass, because I really do believe that we will be greeted as liberators.”
Difficult?
Not at all.
“The Lamont Insurgency in it’s final throes,” Dumsfeld explains. “We all firmly believe that believe demolishing Lamont’s candidacy and liberating Connecticut will be a cakewalk.
Good Drifty.

Nemmind, snarks at private citizens not good . . .
zenn, so good to see you! You’ve really been missed. ;)
The Mystery Pollster – aka Mark Blumenthal – has a couple of good posts deconstrucing the various recent polling numbers in CT. He’s a political pollster with real credibility in the academic community as well as the political community. He knows his numbers, and is good as telling folks what they do – and do not – say.
Three things stood out for me in his analysis of Joe v Ned . . .
(1) Saying anything about the overall number swings over the weekend is “highly speculative.”
(2) Lamont’s “favorable” ratings have been growing (36% on July 20; 46% on Aug 3), which means that this is more than just anti-Joe. MP: “Lamont has clearly made a positive impression in his own right.”
(3) Referring to analysis by Charles Franklin, MP points to Joe’s “favorability” numbers going the other way. Quoting Franklin’s analysis: “Lieberman’s losses among his core supporters, the moderates, are less extreme but politically devastating. From a 67-18 lead 4/30 he dropped to a thin 49-45 margin 7/31, and has recovered a bit in the 8/6 poll to 53-43.” [Franklin also makes appropriate warnings about small sample sizes and statistical significance, but still . . .]
For any numbers geeks at the ‘Lake, Mystery Pollster’s always worth checking out!
man the barricades!!!! inspector Kluso and the gendarmes are coming!
I don’t know that “none” is worth responding to. The Lierman canvassing group is pathetic. Most of kids who are now being paid $150 per day don’t have a clue – they don’t bother talking to anyone because they’re too busy posting signage on public land (illegal) and stapling Lierman posters to telephone polls (also illegal). Oh, yes, and stealing Lamont signs (this is all stuff that was going on during the Kerry/Bush race).
Lierman has run a typical Rove campaign – dirty politics all the way. From the smear ads and handouts, to the despicable radio ads he has on the radio, to the politics of distortion, lies and playing the race card.
Perhaps first and foremost he is using the Rove tactic of projection. He is the one lying about Lamont and distorting who he is. Lamont is simply running on Lierman’s record. Lierman is the one who has gotten $10 million in dirty money. Lamont by contrast has refused to accept PAC money and has funded his campaign either with his own money, or from the $10, $25, $50 that people send to him. This list goes on and on.
I don’t know if it’s possible to loathe Lieman or those who strive to keep him in office any more than I already do, but I have to say, driving around Bridgeport today, looking at Lierman signs posted in front of polling places and 100 Lierman posters stapled to one phone poll made me sick. This is not the campaign of a “principled” politician. This is the campaign of someone rolling in the gutter.
I don’t know if Lamont will win tomorrow, but I have been so impressed by the people running his campaign and those who work and volunteer for it. The campaign is organized, efficient and most capable. This is clearly a David and Goliath story. We all hope David will prevail but it will be against great odds.
There’s an influencial tool called “actions of similar others”. Wherein people tend to do things or think thoughts because similar others do.
And this is why the media focuses not only on trying to convince us of the Republican version of reality, but also on trying to convince us that we already believe it.
zen at 45, thanks! – though not as interesting a story as the name perhaps suggests, just general FDL zaniness. Long, long ago in blogtime (last week, maybe?), in one of our rambling thread discussions, op99 opined that we needed someone to be nefarious, and I immediately volunteered (a much more dignified word than the comment deserves – it was along the lines of “ooh, ooh, can I be nefarious, pretty please?”). And lotus quickly rendered me NefLes to save everyone’s fingers.
Luv, luv, luv, your website Roxanne

muchas gracias, JayT!
Is there a GOTV virtual phone banking effort tomorrow? Sorry I’m not googling it myself, but it’s off to physical therapy for me now. For a bunch of real-life reasons I couldn’t throw myself into this effort until now (i.e. tomorrow). Want to redeem myself tomorrow somehow.
In the meantime, all my thoughts and prayers are on the side of the angels — the good fight against the warmongers, the good fight FOR Ned and all he represents.
God bless you all.
And a big wave and God bless you and thank you to Kevin Leahy and his wife!
OfT, cbl, I left something for you at the bottom of prior thread.
illegal signage and telephone pole stapling tends to turn folk off. It tends to be counter-productive…

Well, that would be a first for Joe.

zen, what took you so long? ;)
I was just at my left nutmeg, where there is a great clip of Ned and Lieberman. Ned is so clear and so unflappable. He said that “if people vote with their hearts, we’ll do just fine.”
Now when was the last time you heard a politician say something like that?
On the other hand, Joe was just pathetic. Whereas Ned talked about what he stood for, Joe just whined about “my oponent.”
If all those squares didn’t blame us, I’d be in shock. What else are they going to do? Listen? They’ll all be lined up with Bobo and Cokie and Howard and all the other freakers screaming the sky is falling.
I remain hopeful about tomorrow. If Ned doesn’t win, I’ll be sitting here wondering how all those people could still believe in such a losing campaign and such a W wannabe.
I can hardly take the anticipation anymore. What time do the polls close tomorrow?
On Keith Olbermann, Howard Fineman just announced that the blogosphere and “anti-war” folks have driven the Dem Party into the middle of a Civil War!
I’m not positive and I don’t have TiVo here at my office to doublecheck, but I heard that and I thought Fineman was quoting the pearl-clutchers predictions from inside the Belt Way.
I’ll listen to the replay when I get home tonight.
If he did say that as his own opinion, well that’s just stupid.
If Ned doesn’t win, I’ll be sitting here wondering how all those people could still believe in such a losing campaign and such a W wannabe.
Ask Chris Bowers at MyDD. He is all about the “low-information voters” getting into the act now that Joe is becoming an establishment cause celebre.
Zen — so glad to see you back! And, what perfect timing for tomorrow!
the most fascinating info about Ned is that his wife said he must have read at least four biographies of every American President … the dude is not ignorant about politics and leadership.
The polls close 23 1/2 hours from now EST.

Hi kirby!
I had every intention of coming to CT this weekend until I found out it was my ole man’s Annual Golf Outing and he went out of town instead, and I had to babysit the grandson when my daughter got called into her work. I was crestfallen. Was going to contact you in a heartbeat. My heart is there with you all in spirit.
OT – The father of a long-time friend passed away a few days ago. She wrote a very moving obituary. Here are a few excerpts:
consummate Democrat and dedicated Master Mason, [snip] [he] also devoted his time, energy and talent to teaching, politics and the Masonic Temple and he was an active member of the Gyro Club. [he] was an avid reader and deliberate thinker. He was an eloquent and prolific speaker who valued education of all kinds. He loved the world of ideas and often strived to make them larger than life. [he] will always be remembered as a committed Democrat. His career and involvement with the Masons were encompassed in his passion for politics and his vision of the Democratic Party. [snip] In lieu of flowers vote Democrat.
This is Lamont: Commited Passionate Democrat
O/T
John Casper – ya big sweetie – thanks!
have only been in Texas a few years, but have been a fan for much longer – (apparently my grandpa’s influence – thrilling tales of Doak Walker exploits, etc..) I could throw a rock and hit three houses that would sell a child for one of those – yep, they’re that rabid down here
but then again, there are those Sooner fans . . .
Another thought about the latest Q poll and why it’s so different from the other two.
Most of Lamont’s support is coming from politically active Dems in the CT suburbs and exburbs. Many have been in Nantucket, Maine or other cool places since the end of July (and many – for the rest of August). I can guarantee you that they have all sent in their absentee ballots. However, they’re not around to answer pollster’s questions.
Lierman’s campaign and the Dem machine are pumping everything they have into the cities. And they are likely to be calling to get out the vote tomorrow and driving people to the polls. However the Lamont campaign has been working to build relationships within all of these communities – not just last week, but for months now. And I think Congresswoman Waters, Jesse Jackson and others have helped considerably.
shooog, someone somewhere is smiling BIG on us!
Respect.

Lamont will win tomorrow. This time tomorrow night, it will be the beginning of a new dawning for America, the Democrats, and most importantly perhaps, the world. I’m going to get prepared for this fall and two years hence.
recently I was doing some geneological research on the one non-Scots-Irish branch of the family. Great-great-Grandpa Jacob Garlitch died in Shelbyville, Indiana, in 1879 — the newspaper obituary stated he had been a lifelong Democrat. I was so proud!
go NED!!!!
ot: i’d like to weigh in on some discussion on the last thread re: gov richardson NM. this man is the worst kind of DINO . . .
what i understand, informed as i am by the respected GREG PALAST, is that mr. richardson personally helped the GOP steal NM in 2000 and 2004; ask the native american tribes and the poor of NM how awfully hard it is / was to cast a vote. mr. richardson, whose father BTW, was a big mucky muck at CITIBANK in S. America, effectively single handedly strangled a recount effort in NM 04 . . . this man is no Democrat —- large or small D.
just ask the war criminal henry kissinger, for whom mr. richardson worked —- or ask his buddies at the carlyle group who are doing big things in NM —- or —- YOU GET THE IDEA.
Margot, Kirby and a K8sighting,
My life is nearly complete.
NefLes, I was a complete dweeb until I was 14. My own cousin hadn’t seen me for a few years when he came over to give condolences when my stepmother died. He asked a friend (now my very bestest friend) to come with him because it would be such a drag, apparently because I had been such a wierdo. Within an hour he knew things had changed. Interestingly, now he’s the dweeb and of course, my bestest and I are utterly fabulous at 51 !!
1,235 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Let’s get this clear folks, Lieberman is part of the first wave of fascist plants in the Democratic Party…he never was a “Democrat”, he was, from the beginnin’, a corporatist and part of the first anti-Democratic assault of the “Reagan Revolution”. He was a creature of the neo-fascist Republican Party and infected the Democratic Party under the sponsorship of Buckley and the National Review who slipped him into office by takin’ out a REAL moderate in Lowell Weicker as punishment for his anti-Nixon apostasy.
Lieberman represents the “Likud Democrats” who have held power as “centrists” since the Reagan election scared the shit outta the old, New Deal liberals. These ersatz Democrats have maintained their incumbencies with AIPAC money while the bulk of the corporate cash has gone to the Republican majority (and not entirely willingly).
Ned Lamont represents the “new wave” grass-roots reaction to the fascist takeover of the Democratic Party…and, as such, Lamont and progressive democracy have already won even if he comes up short tomorrow. The Likud Democrats are history…why do ya think Rahm Emmanuel fired the shot yesterday, he knows which way the wind is blowin’ and he is scramblin’ ta position himself on the winnin’ side for November.
A Lamont victory would accelerate the tidal wave of change that is movin’ through American Politics but his defeat tomorrow will not slow it…
KEEP THE FAITH AND TAKE NO POLITICAL PRISONERS!!!
Most of Lamont’s support is coming from politically active Dems in the CT suburbs and exburbs. Many have been in Nantucket, Maine or other cool places since the end of July (and many – for the rest of August). I can guarantee you that they have all sent in their absentee ballots. I did notice . . . the cute little quip at the end about the track shoes, the reporter was just eating it up, while Joe’s reporter looked like he couldn’t wait to get it over (you better go so you aren’t late to your next gig).
Bottom line, Ned is authentic and Joe is canned.

It seems like a good time to say a very sincere THANK YOU to all the FDL people who worked in this campaign. You’ve made a very valuable contribution to democracy in America. Keeping my fingers crossed and hoping that you all will be greatly rewarded tomorrow night. Thanks for all that you have contributed.

My best friend’s daughter is getting engaged this week. Her intended called Sue today to ask for her hand and express his love and intentions. Isn’t that the best???
Congrats!
fran has become a Lamont supporter — there is more rejoicing in heaven over one repentant sinner than over 99 FDL regulars…

Aww. Mine is a huge Mario and Zelda fan, so she’s more like my intendo. Or super-intendo.
the Indiana Springfield is about 160 miles away from the Indiana Shelbyville
I might have been to cryptic.
“Shelbyville Kid: Wait a minute, If you’re from Shelbyville, how come we’ve never seen you in school?
Bart: I don’t go to school.
Shelbyville Kid: Okay, what’s two plus two?
Bart: Five…
Shelbyville Kid: Ah, story checks out…”
Volunteer!!!
I just called at least 260 people using the move on phone bank (only was able to talk to about 10%). It seemed about 50/50 Lamont/Lieberman. It is going to be a tight one, folks.
It is too late to do any more phone banking tonight, but I urge anyone who can get to Connecticut tomorrow to please do everything in their power to get there and volunteer!
Welcome, fran! What can I pour you? You, Hopie?
I am beside myself, at sixes and sevens, every cliched expression.
xyz, you are to emulate

Hey, twolf, good to see you!
meta, that was just great, reminds me of post-baby days, many moons ago.
Eli, I didn’t get a chance to decide, I had this older stepbrother who dragged me into the world of FM radio, ZAP comix and that-stuff-he-kept-hidden-in-the-trunk-at-the-end-of-his-bed-in-baggies. My dad married his mom when I was 13 and that was the end of dweebdom.
Zen -
The answer was no on the vote Dem line. I’m in Utah and her family members are very Republican. However, even her father has abandonded bush. Although he still supports the likes of Orrin Hatch.
At least I have my work is cut out for me with my future in-laws. Thank god truth is on my side.
Big ol’ WELL DONE to xyz!
Go Lamont!
Just did my tiny bit for the good cause by calling a friend in Willimantic to urge her to vote for Lamont. She can’t stand Lieberman, and knew him from the old days when she was a precinct head in New Haven. She’ll vote.
I wish I had more friends left in Connecticut.
Hi Zenn, good to see you too. good to see everyone here on Lamont-eve
Hee. I just reached the realization that, well, I’m never gonna be cool, so I might as well just be fucking weird and have fun with it (this is so totally gonna get caught in the filter). Served me well through high school and college, although I had to tone it down a bit as I had to become more responsible.
I wish I could do more… It could come down to a handful of votes tomorrow.
Please, everyone, do what you can tomorrow.
I’m begging you.
We can’t let Lieberman stand by while Bush brings us into endless war and destroys our constitutional rights.
Aw, Norske, you’re a sweetheart, even if you talk funny. And good for you, better late than never to fill your heart, yes??
Sharkbabe, honey! Oh, so good, so good to see your little letters tonight.
I am beside myself, at sixes and sevens, every cliched expression.
so mind your p’s and q’s !
Hi Hope,
I didn’t mean fran, but there are 2 posts within the first 18 that could be suspicious.
How’s Mr. Turtle?
cbl in Baja Oklahoma,
Go Sooners! Go Ned!
In Chicago, the quote on Election Day is is “Vote Early, Vote Often!” Even the folks in the cemeteries sometimes vote, lol.
OK, xyz, I give in, I will all my ex-husband tonight. He’s in Falls Village out near Canaan and Salisbury. But only for Ned.
In Chicago, the quote on Election Day is is “Vote Early, Vote Often!” Even the folks in the cemeteries sometimes vote, lol.
“Dead For Ned” *would* be kind of a catchy slogan…
I think Lamont has run the far more popular campaign than Lieberman. That’s why his approval rate steadily increased from poll to poll. Lieberman changed his tune too late to stop Lamont’s momentum. I expect a Lamont victory tomorrow.
*ilson…
Humm… Scots-Irish? You say? I have several names. A tradition in my family. One of my names is Maxwellton in honor of the author of “Annie Laurie” another is Riley, and still another is Dennis. For St. Dennis. My mother, who came from Scotland and my father from Ireland were staunch labor-Democrats. And so am I. Proud to say. My great-grandparents were born in Germany. And they were what would be called today, liberals. Just musing.
recently I was doing some geneological research on the one non-Scots-Irish branch of the family. Great-great-Grandpa Jacob Garlitch died in Shelbyville, Indiana, in 1879 — the newspaper obituary stated he had been a lifelong Democrat. I was so proud!
Um, at that time, wouldn’t that have made him pro-slavery? Sorry, hon.
No, NO, I will not “all” my ex-husband. Anything but that.
I will, however, call him.
I think Lamont has run the far more popular campaign than Lieberman. That’s why his approval rate steadily increased from poll to poll.
I think a lot of it came from people formerly in the “Haven’t heard enough to form an opinion” category. But a very strong majority of those forming an opinion apparently formed a positive one.
karen allen — a true Indpls story — an oldtime politician here was warned that the FBI was watching his polling place in case he tried again to vote his dead mother-in-law — he shrugged and asked: “What’s wrong with that? I always vote her as she would have voted if she were still alive!”
Thanks zennurse! If everyone out there on FDL puts forth some effort, we have a fighting chance tomorrow. Please do all that you can!
One more thing.
Think back to how you felt on the morning after Bush was elected to a second term. Please don’t let that feeling come our way again tomorrow.
Take. Out. Lieberman.
Thanks and godspeed.
As I recall during Dean’s campaign in Iowa, all those orange-hatted youths were a major turn-off to native Iowans. Trippi spent major bucks on that effort.
Mmmm, could be Mr. Whinerman’s $150 a day kids could be turning more off than on.
Volunteer!!!

Some final goodies from nedlamont.com:

Urge a fellow Nutmegger to vote tomorrow:
1,235 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Awe shit…I think I must be havin’ a hormone flashback, the Sharkbabe is here too!!! Now I ken make it through the night even if I hafta work ICU.
KEEP THE FAITH AND DON’T LET ‘EM GETCHA DOWN, ALL THEY GOT IS THE MONEY, HONEY!!!
LindaR –
I think you can use move on tomorrow, but I’m not certain. Does anyone else know?
Great to see you and your wonderful handle, I heart jane.
fran? really? can it be?
Norske, good to have you back.
Democrats in the 1800’s were not necessarily pro-slavery, especially northern ones. Rank-and-file Democrats were anti-oligarchy.
*xyz — well, I’ll try it. This is the first election I’ve done the calling. MoveOn has a slick program set up, really easy to use — though it drives me so crazy to get somebody who says they are going to vote for Lieberman!
Felt like googling –
Sixes and Sevens, At
At sixes and sevens is a very old catchphrase and relates to gambling. It first appears c. 1374 in Chaucer’s Troylus. The original phrasing was set upon six and seven. It originally referred to betting one’s entire fortune on one throw of the dice. It connoted carelessness, and over time the phrase came to mean confusion, disorder, and disagreement. The plural form sixes and sevens became standard in the 18th century.

but as a True Texan, I’ll do my talkin’ on the field *g*
No, yer not.
Hook ‘em.
(And if I ever hear GeeDubya say “My Longhorns” again, I swear I will break my teevee machine. Fu**er couldn’t even get into law school here, and his daddy a Congressman!)
With Norske in the house we cannot fail.

Of course, his entire presidency has become predicated on the idea that “this law stuff ain’t so tough.”
President George W. Bush’s hopes of attracting a new generation of voters to the Republican Party may be fading, as younger Americans are far more critical of his job performance than the broader population.
A Bloomberg/Los Angeles Times poll of Americans age 18 to 24 found Bush’s approval rating was 20 percent, with 53 percent disapproving and 28 percent with no opinion. That compares to a 40 percent approval rating among Americans of all ages in a separate Bloomberg/Times poll.

It’s just proof that we firepups are indeed young at heart.
Y’all.
We’ve got a friend in need at http://www.firedoglake.com/200…..nt-228994:
Christy says in this post:
you do not put them in harm’s way ever without ascertaining the viability and the goals of the mission, and ensuring that you have done everything possible to prevent the conflict before the shooting starts.
Have we forgotten, absolutely put aside, the fact that every reason to go to war in Iraq was false? The bottom line in the case of this country having a cabal of evil in charge, is not ‘pork’. Pork are the scraps the criminals in the White House throw to the dogs in Congress. These people want world domination. And if we forget those ‘facts’ as demonstrated by their actions, we deserve what we get.
I got bad news via a phonecall today, news I cannot discuss. But please in your efforts to GOTV, remind people that this is about our lives as we have known them and nothing less.
Hopie, darlin’, are you here? We gotcha. We’re with you. Take my hand.
Evening, all!
After that steeped-in-BS-CW report on NPR tonight, I really needed me some Firedoggy goodness.
To all you who put it on the line for Ned–thank you.
And win or lose, never give up. The Rethugs never do–and they aren’t even right, f’Chrissakes!
For what it’s worth, I was part of a citizen’s group that fought a huge environmental battle here in the Hudson Valley of NY state from 1998-2004. A big nasty Swiss/Canadian cement manufacturer wanted to build the world’s largest plant along the Hudson, in an incredibly scenic and historically important location.
We rallied a grassroots group of 4000 citizens, and we fought the bastards for 6 years and won a convincing victory that has some parallels to the situation with Lamont/Lieberman in CT. It was a classic case of The People against Big Business, and the company lavished money on the project (in total, $56 million), and they were pretty successful in creating a veneer of public support for their project. They hired an expensive corporate law firm, and a whole bunch of public relations specialists, and polling firms, etc. They offered all manner of sleazy payouts to local civic officials and citizens. But in the end it was all smoke and mirrors; they failed to win hearts and minds.
I’m hoping that the same dynamic is what we’re seeing in the CT Senate race.
I turned on the tv this evening (an extremely rare ocurrence) to see Stephanie Miller on Paula Zahn (actually, I would like to see that!) Anyway it took 55 or so minutes to happen on CNN, so I went to cspan and Chimpy’s press conference today. My fucking god. He is Baby Jane Hudson. No, he makes Baby Jane look sane and connected to reality.
Un the fuck believable, a roomful of people behold yet again this – this, spectacle of utter mental illness – and act as if they’re not seeing it.

The Emperor’s New Brain…
Hope, we are here and we are with you every minute of every day. there is no need to say what you cannot, but just know that we understand how important this is to you and Mr. Turtle. We’re doing our best. Let us know what you need.
thanks lotus.
Un the fuck believable, a roomful of people behold yet again this – this, spectacle of utter mental illness – and act as if they’re not seeing it.
I’ve seen it far too often over the past six years. Never ceases to scare, unnerve, infuriate and depress the shit outa me.
Eli @123,
Does your sweetheart know about this?
http://wolftraplive.blogspot.c…..night.html
I love some of the music.
Hardleft where are you in Maine?
With the greatest respect to Master Jack, we are not Lichtenstein. We’re the Duchy of Grand Fenwick. And we all know how that turned out. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mouse_That_Roared
It also occurs to me that HoJo and Ned aren’t the only ones with ground games going on. There’s a gubernatorial primary, too. Both candidates are mayors who should have machines of their own, and I don’t think they’re going to tell one of their voters to stay home if that voter is also going to vote for Ned. I know one of them appeared at a campaign event with Ned, although it wasn’t an endorsement. Do any of the Nutmeggers on board have a sense of how the gubnatorial primary may effect the Senate vote?
Speaking of a new generation of voters… I had the pleasure of door knocking in Bridgeport today with an amazing recent college grad. He grew up in CT, got a scholarship to Stanford, and moved back to CT as a staffer for the Lamont campaign. He is passionate, smart, talented – I was blown away by the patience he showed when talking to potential voters. (He was even able to charm – with his sincerity and intelligence – a few Republicans we ran into in the neighborhoods we canvassed.)
In solid contrast to College Republicans and the “do anything for money” kidz hired by the Lieberman campaign – the young people I have met working on the Lamont campaign give me great hope.
We the undersigned believe that after having spent much of the last decade trying to convince the world that the “Democrat Party” is evil and will be the ruin of this nation. We declare that we support Joe Lieberman wholeheartedly in his re-election bid because if he loses it will be an unmitigated disaster for the “Democrat Party.”

P.S. We wish Bob Ney and Tom Delay good luck in their future public lives.
I scroll backwards, but cannot find what’s up with Hope. 411, somebody?
Does your sweetheart know about this?
Oh, sweet.
I think the Frogger theme is still my personal favorite…
P.S. We wish Bob Ney and Tom Delay good luck in their future public lives.
Dean Ann et al,
Didn’t you mean to write “private lives?”
Refresh your browser, Sharkie, and check my 6:32.

It’s always really surreal when you watch one of these press conferences where he looks lost, disjointed, and/or petulant, and then in the next hour or next day, all you hear and read about is how composed and masterful he was. Unreal.
dab – I believe I know who you are talking about. Nice guy. I met him when I volunteered in Bridgeport on Sunday. Keep up the great work tomorrow. I will be there in spirit, if not physically.
I plan to be at New Haven HQ around 5:30 AM.
I think the polls show we are solidly in the hunt, no more, certainly no less. It’s all about how hard we work tomorrow getting decided voters to the booths and through the booths.
Hey with 20K new voters, anyone guessing which polling places will get bottlenecked? Or if you are in line by 8PM you get to vote no matter what?
Anyone been briefed about these facts so we don’t get bamboozled?
Tom Delay and Bob Ney will be lifted-up on wings of eagles and will soar to victory.
Have faith.
-The Decider
P.S. Notice how I will be the one to decide when situation in Iraq has officially become a civil war. Cause I’m The Decider.
{{{ zenn }}} so glad you are back here!
So, my brother told me last night on the phone, as I raved about Ned and ranted about RGJoe, that he still has a letter I wrote him in 1988 when Lowell Weicker lost his Senate seat. I was, apparently, very unhappy that this lion of New England, a warrior on the Watergate Committee, had been defeated by a Corporatist Democrat. In the letter, I vowed revenge someday.
hmmmmm.
thanx lotus
Win or lose tomorrow, my thanks to everyone @ FDL for the passion you’ve shown in trying to turn this country toward a better direction and for your awesome contribution to Ned Lamont’s and others’ campaigns. All of you at the forefront of the progressive blogosphere are true revolutionaries.

bush administation-LETHAL LUNATICS!

Zen! So good to see your bytes back in the toobz. I can’t believe I am caught up on the threads and it is not dark yet.
Now, we wait. Ohmygoodness, this is going to be a nailbiter.
a general election law principle is that if you are in line waiting at closing time, you get to vote. There may be important local exceptions.
BarbB – I’m all for the Duchy thing.
I plan to pass the Duchy ‘pon the left-hand side.
GSD–Hi! It’s wonderful that Rep. Ney isn’t going to continue his candidacy! He’s a criminal. I’ve called his office every day asking that he do the folks of Ohio a favor and quit. Finally!
Only thing better is if he’d resign tomorrow.

Eli–
I was *trying* to enjoy your contribution from our becombed brethren, but it was at that exact moment that the over-the-top duo here in the bar decided to crank their volume up, as if *they* were the entertainment or something…
[sighs in exasperation]
Mary for now: Thanks. It’s way past time for that high crook Ney to quit. Maybe he will have time now to buy a better wig.
With regard to Ney: How is it that someone that corrupt doesn’t have the money to buy a decent toupee?
Jeesh,
Karen Allen, Shez, Norske…Howarya’ll.
Like old home days.

maybe we should ask Jim Trafficant
li’l dog — Chimpy tried to get into law school?
Get outta here! He wouldn’t have lasted a whole morning!
Yep, he tried. When he couldn’t get in here, he decided he’d try Harvard B School.
To his everlasting credit, it was the Sainted Page Keeton, longtime dean of the Texas Law School, who wouldn’t allow his strings to be pulled.
Now how it turns out that Page Keeton is the granddaddy of Puffy McMoonface Little Scotty McClellan and his big bro Dr. Mark McClellan, late of the FDA, is not creditable.
Page’s daughter – - and Scotty and Mark’s mother – - is the Carole Keeton McClellan Rylander Strayhorn (aka “One Tough Grandma”) who is one of the people running as an independent in this year’s Texas Governor’s race.
maybe we should ask Jim Trafficant
Don’t think he didn’t come to mind.
Are bad toupees, like, a symbol of prosperity or something?
As long as we are talking about similar names of political crooks, let’s not forget Ohio’s Tom Noe, the guy who led the OH Governor into the rare coins/wine/cigars/Beaniebabies investment of state monies, and then disappeared. He sold his Ohio house and ran to Florida, where they have generous keep-your-money-laws. Noe and OJ in Florida for the same reason.
I watch way too much CSpan and a side diversion to amuse myself is trying to guess who’s wearing a hairpiece of some sort…
Please read this short about voter suppression. Protect every vote.
Jim Trafficant, another Ohio crook.
Excuse me; the most interesting white chiffon dress just swayed past me…[sigh]
Where was I? Oh, yeah.
GO NED!!!
li’l dog, while it’s apparently the case that Dan Quayle made it through somebody’s law school, I can’t feature Chimpy even wanting to try. My. God.
zennurse, honey, there you are. I’ve missed you lately. Will do some searchin’ around to see if you’ve posted and I just missed it. How are you? Are you fine, really? I know you’re zen, I saw your answer to Hope.
(((HopeS))), we are all right here. Touch base, get grounded with us whenever. I know you’re here every night anyway and I don’t need to tell you any of this, but I am. Nyah. So there. (you may not have kids, but I do so I’m sending you some kid snark)
This has been a brutal week, one of those times when whatever is in the air touches far too many people. One of my good friends, a few years younger than me, has rock-n-roll parents. One died of an overdose of sedatives in ‘78 (merciful heavens, none of that other shit he did killed him?) and her mom was killed in a car crash in Austin last week. Another good friend’s father died in her arms of a massive stroke when she went to wake him from a nap. Then Egregious, now Hopie. i don’t know if I can cry any more today.
The world is going mad. It’s a giant Gaian shrug. Out, damn spots!
OK, so I gotta give these guys a little credit.
This one is based on Minor Swing. Not bad, actually…
karen allen . . . what is it about Ohio and crooked politics? One of those questions that I have wondered about from time to time.
li’l dog, while it’s apparently the case that Dan Quayle made it through somebody’s law school, I can’t feature Chimpy even wanting to try. My. God.
There are a lot of staggeringly stupid people who have not only made it through law school, but who actually *teach* there (Reynolds, Althouse). The horror. The… horror.
Timewarp–Easy to explain: They are all Republicans. Ohio is controlled by Repugs.
Un the fuck believable, a roomful of people behold yet again this – this, spectacle of utter mental illness – and act as if they’re not seeing it.
A kindred spirit.
I cannot believe they treat this guy like he’s . . . a President . . . and then they laugh at his lamo, pathetic stabs at jokes.
I long for the day when someone in that room gives the Presnit a cold, stony stare when he trys (and fails) to yuk it up.
And is it just me, or shouldn’t that guy be wearing a black armband about now instead of grinning like the guest of honor at the Bumfu** Rotary Club?
li’l dog, while it’s apparently the case that Dan Quayle made it through somebody’s law school, I can’t feature Chimpy even wanting to try. My. God.
While serving in the Guard, he earned a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree in 1974 at Indiana University School of Law Indianapolis.
Quayle made it thru Indiana U law school with massive string-pulling (his Grandpa owned the state’s dominant newspaper). Informed sources say somebody was paid big bucks to take the bar exam for him…

Timewarp–Easy to explain: They are all Republicans. Ohio is controlled by Repugs.
Well, I knew that, but it does seem to have more than its share. And some of the most egregrious examples of corruption. And quite a history too — I am thinking of the guy back when — was it Wilbur Mills, wasn’t he from Ohio?

Oh, no, what happened to egregious??
Tinmewarp: Analogous to Bush in the White House with a Repug-controlled Congress. Leads to horrible things. Same thing with Ohio. As for Wilbur Mills, he was a senior citizen who just wanted a little fun. Not the evil of today’s political criminals.
No, Mills was a gift from Arkansas. But points for the use of the word “egregious,” tw!
Wilbur Mills was from Arkansas – now who do we know from there who also had trouble keeping it in his pants ?
Hope, what LindaR said….golden light around you……

Truer words were never spoken
careful now – that’s my law school you’re talkin’ about. Never had the ‘pleasure’ of meeting Dan Quayle though.
Thanks, zennurse, I needed that.
Egregious had a dark night of the soul yesterday (her night, our day) and came here for solace. If you scroll down the page, on the left hand side you’ll find the search button. If it feels like working today, pop her name in and you can read her posts.
Yeah, Warren G. Harding. He has a nephew, or close relative in Ohio who was named after him. He’s now a physician and probably has to live down that name every day.

(If I get to the end & find no-one’s answered your questions, I’ll try to help. My guess is, I’m so late, you’ll have rec’d beaucoup info before I get thru checkin in & checkin up.)
HopeSaT, Sorry to hear you’ve had bad news. If I could, I’d pour you my best Sauvignon Blanc and sit at your elbow.
I was hoping that egrigious the commentor would come by and see it, since she says she wants people to use it!
So Mills was from Arkansa? Ain’t that interesting. Must be something in those hotsprings. But I still seem to remember an Ohio Rep from the 70’s or 80’s who got into a whole lot of hot water. And no, I am not thinking about that other guy who was arrested and went on trial and just got meaner and meaner and more belligerent, and just wouldn’t give up his seat — and wasn’t he trying to launch some kind of a campaign from prison?
Quite frankly y’all, I’d settle for a little Warren G. after 6 years of this depravity – Teapot Dome looks like the Franking Scandal in comparison
why would anybody want to give a kid the middle name of Gamaliel anyways?
egregious is in Russia working, she checks in though.
this place is gonna need a *lot* of threads tomorrow….
Quite frankly y’all, I’d settle for a little Warren G. after 6 years of this depravity – Teapot Dome looks like the Franking Scandal in comparison
Hell, I’d settle for *Kenny* G.
And he could appoint Michael Bolton ambassador to the UN.
Hi Shez, I owe you an e-mail…uh, after tomorrow. Signing off for the night — having both polymyalgia rheumatica and fibromyalgia, I know from experience I must get a good night of sleep to be able to work tomorrow.
Talked to CT Bob earlier, and we are planning blog updates no less than hourly, starting at noon.
We feel all your positive energy and will carry all of your souls with us tomorrow. Every FDLer who has told a friend, come to CT, made a phone call, and dropped money in the bank has made a critical difference to making this a race — a long race with many obstacles — let’s find strength from the memory of Susan Butcher’s 4 Iditarod wins! Now there’s a woman who beat the odds and the conventional wisdom through the long Alaska races.
Great piece by David Sirota describing four different scenarios for tomorrow – from a big Lieberman win to a Lamont blow out. A must read…
http://www.workingforchange.co…..D20B63FA43
An excerpt:
(snip)
“Here’s the deal folks: No matter what the outcome tomorrow – and I sure am hoping Lamont wins – we should all remember that last point: the fact that Ned Lamont and the progressive movement have mounted such a serious challenge to an entrenched incumbent with such a massive corporate-backed warchest is a HUGE ACCOMPLISHMENT. In the course of just a few months, a guy who has never run for office took on one of the most well-funded, insulated politicians in America, who used all of his clout and cashed in all of his favors to get other Big Time members of the Establishment to help him. If Ned gets within 15 points of Lieberman, it is a display of real strength, and it is a major step forward in our movement.
Remember – movements take time. If Ned loses, the media and Democratic “strategists” will put out all sorts of stories patting themselves on the back and pretending that nothing serious really happened. The louder their claims like that, the more we should all know that we’ve already won a big battle – no matter what the outcome tomorrow. Again, it is crucially, crucially important for everyone to do whatever they can tomorrow to get as many votes out for Lamont – but don’t forget what we’ve already accomplished: it’s no small feat.”
Are you trying to think of the name of Ohio politician Wayne Hayes?
timewarp — you’re right about some Ohio congresscritter a while back with unprofessional conduct — cant recall the name myself either …
At risk of being EPU’d
Ya gotta read this:
[I’d blockquote it but I can’t figure out what to leave out, it’s so right on]
timewarp — you’re right about some Ohio congresscritter a while back with unprofessional conduct — cant recall the name myself either …
Sounded like Traficant.
Wayne Hayes resigned after a sex scandal with Elizabeth Ray. He gave her a job (this goes back to 1976) as a typist, although she couldn’t type. Politicians feared the powerful Hayes. If they displeased him, he’d have either the air conditioning or heat turned off in their office.
Wayne Hays — yes !
on May of 1976, the Washington Post broke the story quoting Elizabeth Ray, Hays’s former secretary, saying that Hays hired her on his staff, and later gave her a raise to be part of the staff of the House Administration Committee, for two years in order to serve as his mistress. Hays had divorced his first wife of 38 years just months prior, and married his veteran Ohio office secretary, Pat Peak, in early 1976, shortly before the scandal broke. [3] Ostensibly a secretary, she admitted: “I can’t type. I can’t file. I can’t even answer the phone.’” Ray even “let a reporter listen in as the Ohio congressman told her on the phone that his recent marriage (to another former secretary) would not affect their arrangement.” [4]. Time Magazine reported, “Liz chose to tell her story after Hays decided to marry Pat Peak and did not invite her. ‘I was good enough to be his mistress for two years but not good enough to be invited to his wedding,’ she pouted.” Three days later, Hays admitted to most of the allegations on the House floor, denying only “that Miss Ray’s federal salary was awarded solely for sexual services. She was not, insisted Hays, ‘hired to be my mistress.’” [5]. He resigned as chairman of Committee on House Administration on June 18, 1976, and the resigned from Congress on September 1, 1976.
Funny from Kos. LOL
“Quick Question: If conservative pundits really believe that a Ned Lamont victory will destroy the Democratic Party, why hasn’t a single major conservative pundit endorsed Ned Lamont?”
Thanks DAvid Sorota

Strategery.
For a minute there, until *Ilson and Karen Allen came up with the story, I though Wayne Hays was the one in the Reflecting Pool at Midnite with the Bimbo (Clue, anyone?). Was that Wilbur Mills? Jeez, it’s so hard to keep these extracurricular *uckers straight.
Unfortunately, Mills is perhaps best known for a scandal involving a drunken incident on October 7, 1974, with an Argentine stripper known as Fanne Foxe. Mills’ car, driven by a former Nixon staffer, was stopped by US Park police late at night because the driver had not turned on the lights. Mills was intoxicated, and his face was cut from a scuffle with Foxe. When police approached the car, Foxe leapt from the car and jumped into the nearby Tidal Basin. Mills acknowledged his alcoholism, sought treatment at the West Palm Beach Institute, joined Alcoholics Anonymous, and resigned as Chair of the Ways and Means Committee. Mills is one of numerous public officials known to have drinking problems during the time. [1] Despite the scandal, he was re-elected to Congress in 1974 by 60%. He did not seek re-election in 1976.
When police approached the car, Foxe leapt from the car and jumped into the nearby Tidal Basin.
That part just cracks me right up.

This is funny as hell, with opinions by Rice, Hannity, Limbag, Coulter and the whole gang.

and this is a great rant….
It’s Time To Quit Blogging
Lou Dobbs is starting to make sense to me:
NEW YORK (CNN) — This Republican-led, do-nothing Congress is on its way home for a five-week vacation. I’m sure while there, they’ll be glad to explain to their constituents why they need so much rest in a year in which they will work fewer than 80 days.
The Republicans in Congress have little to brag about when they return home…
SNIP
Bottle of blog rants this:
Lou, the Democrats couldn’t stop shit if each and every single last one of them wanted to.
There’s no major. There’s no deciding. They’ve got 44 votes in the Senate and 201 votes in the House. Christ, if they all called each other the night before and swore some kind of blood oath, they couldn’t stop someone from closing a window on a hot day.
They can’t do shit.
Is it wrong for a bunch of assholes like Leiberman and Biden to cast meaningless votes for the very worst gubment the American people have ever had to endure?
Fuck, yeah. And God have mercy on what’s left of their corrupted souls.
But complicit? Did I say complicit?
more of this at the link…

yes Mommybrain,
Wilbur Mills went at it with Fanne Fox in the Tidal Basin
John Jenrette R-S Carolina(Abscam) went at it on the Capitol Steps with his then wife
Wayne Hayes -
was like Ney, ‘the Congressional Mayor’ office space, parking spaces, phone line capacity, etc.
and he went at it with everyone’s favorite prom date: Abramoff

Eli–People do strange things when they think they are about to be arrested. Have you seen the Tidal Basin?
Well, no.
Wibur Mills with Fanne and Wayne Hays with a secretary reminds me on the sign I saw a protestor carrying in Washington: Better to fuck an intern than to fuck the entire country. BushCo prefers the entire country.
Damn, I’m actually *listening* to the Russian dancing chicken video…
Despite the scandal, he was re-elected to Congress in 1974 by 60%. He did not seek re-election in 1976.
I’ll never forget when he went on Tom Snyder’s show, IIRC before he left Congress. He came across as a genuine southern gent, and sounded truly embarassed about his, erm, “exploits.”
One quote: when asked about Foxe’s assertion that he had professed his love for her, he responded, “Well, they say there’s no fool like an old drunk fool.”
[sigh] I guess it’s no use hoping that we’ll ever get back to *those* days, again…
karen allen — Bill Clinton did not have “sexual relations” with that woman — they just “fooled around”.

Dunno, astralp. fran’s been here for several days in a row, gradually becoming more civil and reasonable in conversation. It’s plausible to me that s/he may be on the up-and-up, though this would be the first case of a one-sentence comment-&-scamper from fran.
Zen-nurse – you are a sight for sore eyes and so happy to see ya!
Just home from a long afternoon catching up at my office and gonna take my oh so happy pooch Buddha Blue out for a walk for what promises to be a beautiful sunset from Carmel beach.
All things considered I’d still rather be on the ground in CT cause I’ve never been so confident of a Lamont victory by this time tomorrow evening!
And what a party that promises to be!
Catch ya later dear firepups and lambs.
Eli–The Washington tidal basin is that reflecting pool seen in pictures in front of the Jefferson Memorial. A fairly shallow body of water. No sense whatsoever in jumping into it

Ah, that thing. Hee. Now it’s even funnier.

Hell Eli, I’m surprised you aren’t making your own version where you dance as one of the chickens :)
A Jewish tribute band, kind of like Kosher Club hehe.
Eli, you’re so deep, eh? ;)
Ms. Fox was billed as “The Argentinan Firecracker”
Later on, in an *ahem* inspired bit of hype, she became “The Tidal Basin Bombshell” in club appearances…
actually fran made a public recantation last night — it seems sincere.
Eli–To add to the visual humor, I think she was wearing a long evening dress when she jumped into the Tidal basin. Only Tidal Basin I have is the washing machine, snark.
Hell Eli, I’m surprised you aren’t making your own version where you dance as one of the chickens :)
I’ve got the arms for it.

Eli,

Just know that I defended your honor.
*ilson — really? Where was that, mas o menos?

Eh?
ANNABELLE BATTISTELLA: Better known as “Fanne Foxe, The Argentine Firecracker”; Battistella leaped from Arkansas Rep. Wilbur Mills’ limo one night in 1974 and ran into the Tidal Basin in Washington. The alcoholic Mills was eventually forced to check into a rehab center. He retired in 1976, and died in 1992. Battistella kept performing, often under the name “The Tidal Basin Bombshell”; and wrote the “The Stripper and the Congressman”; but tried to commit suicide in 1976. She is believed to be in Argentina.

I agree lotus. A few days ago fran identified himself in one comment as “Father fran.”
Also, he said he had been at the V.A. visiting his brother.
AFAIK, he’s a Democrat and against the war. I don’t know how he’ll vote tomorrow, but a few days ago I knew for sure, so maybe that’s progress.

It’s all good, Captain. Y’all have fun here. I usually just lurk. Atrios’ place is where I pay rent.
I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that Fanne Foxe maybe has some Issues.

I thought Soros picked up the tab?
Yes, Fanne Fox’s goal now is to become Argentina’s next Evita.

Thanks, *ilson — that is some kind of excellent!
Soros prefers Fresca
I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that Fanne Foxe maybe has some Issues.
Ummmm, oh yeah. No doubt about *that* one.
I once read an essay in one of the ‘burg tabloids by a gal who was stripping her way thru school. She made a few pointed allusions, to the whole “issues” thing among exotic dancers.
lotus, did you notice my Bible quotation following Fran’s comment?
When police approached the car, Foxe leapt from the car and jumped into the nearby Tidal Basin.

My Mom worked on the hill back then. She and the other women in her office wore buttons that said “I Screw, But I Type Too.” I can’t remember the woman who did the photo shoot for Playboy then too. she nad Fannie were both featured.

Pfft. You should have seen him here for Book Salon. He was a wild man.
Vicki, you *know* Soros is no fun at all.
Goes with that whole territory of, you know, ruining entire economies and destroying freedom and all that.

Sure did, *ilson, and found it excellent as well. On this positive note, I’m going to sign off and go to sleep sending all the positivity I’ve sopped up here tonight to Hope, Ned, and everyone else on this blue marble in need of it.
Flowah-y hugs and kisses all around, blogtender!

re: Hope
end of previous thread
as a gay man I want you breeders to remember our Barney Frank!
In 1990, the House voted to reprimand Frank when it was revealed that Steve Gobie, a household employee he had hired in 1985, was running a prostitution business from Frank’s apartment. Frank had dismissed Gobie earlier that year after learning of Gobie’s activities.
The Boston Globe, among others, called on Frank to resign, but he refused. The House Ethics Committee recommended Frank be reprimanded because he “reflected discredit upon the House” by using his congressional office to fix 33 of Gobie’s parking tickets. Attempts to expel or censure Frank failed; instead the House voted 408-18 to reprimand him. This condemnation was not reflected in Frank’s district, where he won reelection in 1990 with 66 percent of the vote, and has won by larger margins ever since.
Totally OT and yet totally on point: AP reporting BushCo/Rubberstamp Congress pushing federalization of the National Guard.
Monday 07 August 2006
Charleston, South Carolina – The nation’s governors are closing ranks in opposition to a proposal in Congress that would let the president take control of the National Guard in emergencies without consent of governors.
The idea, spurred by the destruction and chaos that followed Hurricane Katrina’s landfall in Louisiana and Mississippi, is part of a House-passed version of the National Defense Authorization Act. The Senate has not yet agreed to it.
And all those other lovely BushCo “emergencies”…like Iraq…and whatever the madman of Waco has in mind for the next round?
Ned is the cool voice of reason that will help lead us back from the maelstrom of neocon insanity.
Zen, so good to see your posts again! And egregious, keep on keepin’ on with your good works.
And Hope…find your wellspring here and know that we’re all holding you close in our hearts, along with voices like KathieinMN, Gold Star mom.
Hope resides in us all, and that will prevail.
I’ll be heading to Norwalk with the NY group tomorrow morning. Any FDLers in Norwalk?
Oh, so many thank you-s. Mommy, I suffered like everyone else in the terrible heat, but did pretty well. My absence has been entirely due to lack of computer access. My motherboard just died 3 weeks ago and te ‘puter is in the hospital, home any day. I’m using my friend’s slow and stupid laptop, although plugged into my DSL, it’s not too bad, just lacks all the stuff I have at my fingertips on mine. I had to install Real Player so I could have radio online, she’s a send and receive emailer only.
It would have been too frustrating to go to the library and have only 1/2 hour a day to visit.
My house is so clean I feel like I live in a hotel and I have a truly thriving garden since I’ve had tons of time to devote to closets and weeding. I’ve run every errand imaginable and some days have had to make up things to do to keep myself busy so I wouldn’t be pining for my fdl gang too much. It also screwed up my best friend’s and my birthdays which are a week apart. There were things I wanted to order for her online, but the motherboard died two weeks before mine and three before hers. Too bad for me, I had to shop; you know, one for you and two for me…
I commented on the last thread about the perspective I gained about our community and the reality of its role in my (our) lives, it has been an affirmation more than a revelation.
Is Scarecrow around? Are you there, my friend?
Many thanks, again and again. You are very kind.
As are you all…so glad to be here.
li’l dog, while it’s apparently the case that Dan Quayle made it through somebody’s law school, I can’t feature Chimpy even wanting to try. My. God.
There are a lot of staggeringly stupid people who have not only made it through law school, but who actually *teach* there (Reynolds, Althouse). The horror. The… horror.
Yoo! Two of them iinm.
actually fran made a public recantation last night — it seems sincere.
What’s this about, *ilson, give me the dope here.
Also, in reading Mommy’s link, I have discovered that Valley is now going by an alias. Do I have that right? How will I know? Is she here, does she know how glad I am that she’s back, and karen too?
Yahoo, yohoo.
fran came in here all snotty and pro-Lieberman, sounding like a classic concern troll. Folk here engaged her and a mind got changed. It’s now a Ned vote!
zennurse – Valley Girl transformed into M if memory serves me correctly – and how cool to have you both back after what seemed an eternity. ;~)
Anderson Cooper says Lieberman’s chances don’t look very good for tomorrow. I wonder if he will explain…
z — i think scarecrow’s in CT with the MA gang, revdeb et al. sometimes i thought election eve would be lonely here at the ‘lake, but old and new keep showing up! welcome to KiMN, Kevin, B, who else is new or decloaked tonight?
and all the old school peeps, my we’ve all decided to put our foot up at the ‘lake {strikes match} anybody seen the prosecutor lady around?

< <<< Pach! >>>>>
PS I bet Pach is busy writing his post-primary pep talk for Wednesday morning right now, or should I say BOTH his post-primary pep talks? Kind of reminds me of the West Wing episode where Toby tries to convince the President he hasn’t written two speeches — based on whether his kidnapped daughter is found alive. C’mon, Pach, crank out the words, one post for the bad news, one post for the good….
clare goes whistlin’ past the EPU yard . . .
like everyone else, I so want Ned to win tomorrow AND if he doesn’t, I understand the gnashing of teeth and lamentations here that will justifiably follow
BUT,
I’m gonna go on and not care until I’ve done everything I can to dismantle the machinery that has kept all of us out of the democratic process
seeing Barbara Boxer, Barbara F’ing Boxer shilling for that smug, holier than thou DINO was maybe the most eye opening blogging moment I’ve had . I know, she is no DiFi or Hillary and she probably had her nose plugged the whole time, but goodness – the very system that placed her there has got to f’ing go – and I understand removing Liebushman is a good start – but he’s a symptom, we have to go after the disease
Paging Dr Rootz, Dr Rootz to the Dismantle Phone please …
Anderson Cooper says Lieberman’s chances don’t look very good for tomorrow. I wonder if he will explain…
He’ll probably do a complete 360 tomorrow.
I’ll be heading to Norwalk with the NY group tomorrow morning. Any FDLers in Norwalk?
You’ll get to meet the wonderful Maura! I was going to go to the Norwalk office but there is a group working in Danbury, much closer to home.
Good luck tomorrow – It’s wonderful that help is coming by the busload
fran came in here all snotty and pro-Lieberman, sounding like a classic concern troll. Folk here engaged her and a mind got changed. It’s now a Ned vote!
Aw, Right!!! That’s the way we do it here at firedoglake!!!
Holy moley. My third or fourth post here gets promoted to a lead page. I’ve NEVER had that kind of luck at Kos! :)
Joe Lieberman has just insulted me. He has insulted every Democrat with a soul. He says that I don’t care about my country’s security because I oppose an illegal and immoral invasion of a foreign country that didn’t attack us and posed no threat to us.
Joe Lieberman is a disgusting human being.

Dude! I do that too!
Good morning, littermates! The sun came up at 5:30…Staring at the ceiling thinking about the primary apparently wasn’t helpful in getting back to sleep.
Am off to my last day at the hospital before a 16 hour journey. Mood: top notch. Thx for all the fdl love.
To answer a question I am not technically a surgeon, but have watched or participated in hundreds of congenital operations for infants. Mostly I arrange for equipment, supplies, training, and little things like building a neonatal ICU and OR’s here in St. Petersburg.
LAMONT: MAKE IT HAPPEN!!
Wilbur Mills and Fanne Foxe:
I write two versions of every comment…
On my way out, I got snagged by NYT’s new lede story. Joe remains a witless lyinsackashit.
zennurse – Valley Girl transformed into M if memory serves me correctly – and how cool to have you both back after what seemed an eternity. ;~)
And Mary decided to expand her name after she saw another Mary posting, so now she’s “Mary now and then” or “Mary to and fro” or some such durned name. Oh, and Punaise is on vacation with no tubes and Imm is on his way to upstate NY to write, so he will also be incommunicado for a week or so. That’s all I can think of for now.
Holy moley. My third or fourth post here gets promoted to a lead page. I’ve NEVER had that kind of luck at Kos! :)

Joe Lieberman is a disgusting human being.
Jane’s generous with the front-page love, MJ, and yes it is cool!
Don’t forget that Lieberman also insulted you by comparing your support of Ned Lamont to the campaign of evil Saxby Chambliss against hero Max Cleland — in front of Cleland! No real Dem would EVER do that.
I’m sorry I missed the MA Contingent bus with Deb and Kathryn, selise and scarecrow. I haven’t read any email yet, came straight here, but they knew I was offline. Really bad at voice mail and phone as well, hate the phone. I will call the ex and tell him to talk to his brother’s ex as well. I don’t think I could get there and be effective all in the same day.
I owe immantenize an apology, I know he was away, but maybe he will see this. We had plans to go down sometime.
Life is unpredictable, nothing for it.
I’ll hang out with all of you and we can send collective postive progressive energy for Ned’s triumph. Sure hate to miss the fun, though.
Good Christ. Gerstein has just elevated wankerdom to a whole new level…
What.a.complete.prick.
the http://www.Joe2006.com is still down but has one simple message up …
Look, if Lieberthug can’t even keep a web site running in the midst of the most crucial campaign he has ever been in (I say that because he really didn’t care about 2000), then how does he get off by repeatedly saying that he thinks he would do a better job than Lamont (or almost anyone for that matter)?
The entire Lieberman campaign has been projection. Entirely and completely.

Never mind, that just sounds kinda creepy…
Thanks Barbara, so helpful, so Valley is just “M”? Mary I would know if she called herself matilda.
Egregious, blessings to you and to your patients, nurses and docs. Profound work. I just heard a little piece on the Beeb about a Malaysian boy who thought he was going blind when all he needed was a pair of glasses, and is so happy now that he can see his schoolbooks and his parents’ faces. Little miracles, giving lives to those who would otherwise be so limited. I collect old glasses from my coworkers for Lens Crafters who take them to third world countries and make glasses for free.
I’d be lost without mine.
Take care, be good to yourself, dear.
Teddy, didja forget to look around for me? (laughing)
Hey gang, I just got home, and I heard something hilarious on NPR while I was out. I was listening to “To the Point,” and they had a segment on the Lamont-Lieberman race. The only person they had on who thought that maybe people would change their minds and turn back to Lieberman once they got into the voting booth was John Fund of the Wall Street Journal!
But that’s not the best part. He also had helpful advice for the Democrats, dutifully parroting the idea that this is just like 1968, and if Lamont wins, the party will be influenced by the antiwar left wing, and by 2008 at the latest it will undermine them on national security.
But that’s still not the best part! He talked about how he’d been in Connecticut recently, and actually said “even though I’m not old enough to have been sentient in ‘68, I could tell that it’s just like that!
I am not making this up. Whatta maroon!
Joe Lieberman is a disgusting human being.
You’re half right.
preciousss, my preciousss, preciousss senate seat . . .
http://www.LieberDem.com still is up …
BarbaraB – WOW you did good girl! And quick as mercury.
And lotus honey pie – great catch at the NYT and indeed HoJo is truly a lying sack of shit – and may our blessed mothers forgive and understand there just are not any better words to describe such miserable miscreants.
Gosh – just trying to catch up from when I left the office, and still behind…
When I get into bed tonight, I am going to send positive affirmations and energy to Ned and to all the people pouring their hearts and souls and “soles” (as in shoe leather) into this race.
I so believe that this is a watershed moment for where we, as Democrats, and we, as a country, are headed. People want change. They are tired of listening to the powers-that-be spout nonsense about Iraq. Tired of being at the mercy of oil-rich nations. Tired of working harder and harder and getting farhter behind.
I was listening to something tonight in the car – I don’t even remember what it was – some retired general or something – and all I could think was, “I don’t know who to believe anymore – no one is telling us the truth.” The generals are all making new careers out of their experience, and each one has an analysis that differs from the next. Condi and Bush and Cheney are lost in a world where up is down and black is white, and they wouldn’t know the truth if it jumped up and bit them somewhere painful. And they don’t care about the truth (yeah – they probably couldn’t handle the truth, I know).
I want more. I want somone to care what we think, and hear what we want. Someone to pay attention to us – to see us – and to pull their snouts out of the big feed trough that is Washington, DC and do the jobs we sent them there to do. This is supposed to be a representative democracy, and that’s what I want, damnit. I want to be represented.
Probably way EPU’d, but felt the need to rant.
If there is a God, do you think it would be too much to ask – too selfish? – for some help getting Ned Lamont a seat on the floor of the United States Senate?
Gotta cool down now.
Redshift
Hi, how are you, good to see you again.
I heard that program, it was taped last week, how could I forget that snot? I didn’t know who he was, but I was talking back to him. (the folks passing in the street must think of me as the crazy cat lady if they can hear me)
I’m so glad you reminded me.
Gotta go, doggies.
And, to all you election pixies floating around in the aether:
If Lieberputz pulls this off, and his sorry ass is spared the humiliating whuppin’ it so *richly* deserves, I am gonna be *muy* pissed.
And election pixies *don’t* like me when I’m pissed…
If you keep cranking out comments like the one Jane highlighted….
Good stuff
Anne, I personally love it when you rant.
That was very nice, thanks.
Zennurse – so glad to see you back on line. I’m so sorry we missed each other last week, but I’ve been in Ct. since Friday afternoon.
*xyz and cbl – great to hear about your phone bank efforts. I hope many other FDLers can take the time to make as many calls as possible. Folks: Check the link for MoveOn in Jane’s post. We can increase the rootz power 10 fold just from FDLers picking up the phone.
Many FDLers here, along with many others in the greater blog community. I’m at the HQ in Meriden. Of course siun has been helping on press stuff for weeks – jeez, is she a treasure — and the awesome TRex is now riding shotgun. Most locals here had never seen a live TRex, and I must say, it really is something to behold! Kathryn of MA was here Saturday and Sunday and hopes to return tomorrow. She took some great pictures that I hope will get circulated, and so have Selise and RevDeb, who have been here since Saturday, walking neighborhoods and other stuff. We’ve been joined by Lisa Dawn, Diane and many others.
We’ve seen a promising change in the door-to-door conversations from our first efforts three weeks ago, compared to the last three days. Lamont’s name recognition is way up, and the impressions are almost all favorable. People like this guy. Lamont supporters know the issues, and they know Joe’s record better than we do – but it’s not just anti-Leiberman anymore; it’s pro Lamont too. This is not John Kerry. They see Lamont as genuine. I’m convinced the voters in this area will show up because they know how important this is. I hope other areas do as well. Many times, the people we talked to told us everything we wanted to say before we said a word; all they saw was our Lamont stickers on our shirts. Good people here.
The enthusiasm here is very high, and everyone’s ready for tomorrow. All of us have our assigned polling places, and we’ll be heading out tomorrow morning about 5:30 a.m., as the polls open at 6:00 a.m.
Well be watching the polls and doing other stuff all day tomorrow, then come back and see what we’ve accomplished. We hope it’s enough, but no one is taking anything for granted. Wish us luck.
Make those calls!
*ilson, Steve Gilliard has paid you a compliment, although he didn’t name you.
The Lamont web team are pros, the Lieberman team couldn’t even buy the right domain names to protect their guy. Connecticut for Lieberman.com is gone. http://stevegilliard.blogspot……stein.html
Thanks for the link, Captain Goto, and *oot, *ilson!
Thanks, zen – good to see you back, and hope your computer is back in shape soon! I had to chuckle when I read your comment that your house was as clean as a hotel – mine would be, too, if I weren’t here at FDL, but I figure I probably won’t get to the end of my life and wish I had done more cleaning…or working…or sitting in traffic. LOL!
Feels like Christmas Eve as a kid – hope Santa’s going to give Ned a win tomorrow – the “elves” have sure worked hard for that!
I watched relevant parts of Tweetie (HOPELESS!), approx. 2 1/2 network news, dobbin (THOROUGHLY ANNOYING, & then there’s Connie ooogh!) & PBS(minus Lehrer)news tonight re CT campaign. Blergh!
Gut says:
Keep working HARD on GOTV fellas! You’ll feel better Wed. morning, however it turns out.
Newsies still confusied all ta #&*$ over wha’s happenin’, sigh. The pessamist in me agrees with those who think it might come right down to the wire. But I’m not on the ground there, so don’t put much stock IMHO. Just don’t let up till ya have to. This could be soooo big!
Lotsa surprised folk now all accept that something important is happening (dang tootin’!). They just haven’t much of a clue, even the ones who may be trying to remain impartial. REALLY annoying how many regard Ned as a one-trick pony. NO, DAGNABBIT! It’s NOT JUST the WAR!
Some REALLY nice talking video of Ned. He’s just great! That, and all the volunteers helping his campaign, are golden. THANKS ALL! ;->
Encouraging report, scarecrow
GOOD LUCK !!!!!
since Italian-Americans make up the largest ethnic group in CT (20%), I will simply wish you “Bocca di Luppo” (in the mouth of the wolf)
I’m still wondering how they’re going to steal it. I know they don’t have electronic voting but do they have the damn Diebold tabulation software?
’twas nuthin, Barbara B…
See y’all later!!
Teddy, you so crazy.
No, I’m not doing any pre-drafting. Heh.
I am not making this up. Whatta maroon!
john fund . . . hahaha — what a sick bastid.
How old is John Fund anyway? He looks amazingly like a weasel to me, like so many of those annoying guys in high school & college everyone wanted to smack down. They didn’t quite fit in or know how to while at the same time thought they were quite superior to everyone else. I bet the whole neocon crowd of today were those guys.
‘Morning Egregious!
How are Boris and the Uzbeck baby?
Anne to Anne – Your inspiring rant speaks for many including this old newspaper brat and if there is a God she is listening and hearing ya loud and clear IMHO.
Sociopaths like Condi, Bush & Cheney are just like common garden variety sociopaths who cannot distinguish lies from truth.
I’m unabashedly confident the good people of Connecticut will elect Ted Lamont tomorrow and HoJo will end up one of those embarrassing footnotes in history. Sort of like that old fellow piker Dan Quayle only worse.
Meanwhile my same name sister it is no small delight to get EPU’ed with ya! If nothing else it promises to confuse those boys at NSA. LOL!
omigawd — Peter Beinart is going to be on Colbert and he used the line about telling Beinart where he can enlist!
omigawd — Peter Beinart is going to be on Colbert and he used the line about telling Beinart where he can enlist!
That’s a repeat.
I have a question about Move On -
Tomorrow, will the move on phone bank website be directing us to folks who are pro-Lamont, or will it just be a general registered Democrats list?
We need some way to focus on calling people who have been identified as pro-Lamont and remind them to vote. Does such a mechanism exist? This is critical folks! Where do we go for this information? Thanks.
*ilson – I have not believed that s/he was here for Lieberman, but rather for other policy issues generally – the switch on Lieberman is just to establish presence. dunno why the suspicion, and I have no idea at all. just feel a negative drain when s/he is on board.
also, unrelatedly, what site is that that has a no flirting rule? b/c that is just lame.
ironranger 377
Please stop pickin’ on all the self-respecting weasels out there! Outrageous comparison!
fund & rover are in a class with few peers…
did I SAY that was a compliment? NOT!
I bet the whole neocon crowd of today were those guys.
I think that’s why they are neocons today.
It’s their revenge on the kidz who didn’t think they were kool enough.
Colbert: Lamont is fighting it out with one of my favorite Republicans, Joe Lieberman.
Haha
omigawd — Peter Beinart is going to be on Colbert and he used the line about telling Beinart where he can enlist!
That’s a repeat.
so it seems…
I need to go to sleep, but I have been popping over to Wolcott as I’ve been refreshing and he writes about the response of the freepers at PJM to the Israeli’s war. In this case, we must all be completely incensed and horrified at the bloodlust and murderous intent in every link he has made. This is the one story I have been really trying to parse without your wisdom and I’m looking forward to looking back at posts about this. I know Christy has written eloquently more than once and I already appreciate others’ more informed opinions. Mine comes partly from what I’ve learned, but mostly from what I feel. Horror and disgust, and regarding the stuff I’ve read via James Wolcott, shame, shame, shame.
So thanks in advance. Tomorrow will be a busy, exciting day, I’m so glad I can spend it with you.
Anderson Cooper is finally getting to the “will Lieberman be the first political casualty of the war” segment, and it had better be good. I’m TIVOing Stewart and Colbert so I can watch. (It may be a re-run, I suppose, but if so, I missed its earlier incarnation.)
Scarecrow, please tell TRex that Spazeboy wants to meet him if they have not already gotten together.
“hooking up” is not the phrase to use about TRex meeting SpazeBoy …
Hi, zen! I’m doing okay.
I had to listen to the end of the segment to find out who it was, and check the show web page to be sure. I was yelling at his idiocy at first, but once he got into the 1968 stuff, I just laughed and laughed.
Harry Farrell, the GWU Poli Sci professor they had on after him to talk about blogging in politics, was quite good. Not only did he know about the other issues in the CT race, he had a good take on the influence of the blogs (not huge directly on this race, but influential in framing the false “bipartisanship” of Joe and those like him.) I’ll definitely look for his book on the subject when it comes out.
So thanks in advance. Tomorrow will be a busy, exciting day, I’m so glad I can spend it with you.
Welcome back, Zennurse. You were seriously missed.
“hooking up” is not the phrase to use about TRex meeting SpazeBoy …
Are they both family?
Teddy, you so crazy.
No, I’m not doing any pre-drafting. Heh.
Feeling all TradMed and gotcha, I am.
All I can say is wow…
“The campaign, which had been using the site to recruit volunteers for its get-out-the-vote effort, said it crashed in late afternoon because of a high number of visits (Ned Lamont’s server was still holding up.)
The senator’s aides blamed the shutdown on liberal bloggers and other opponents. “They hate Bush but they use the same tactics as the Bush campaign,” said Dan Gerstein, a Lieberman adviser, referring to the bloggers.
Mr. Gerstein acknowledged that he had no evidence to back up that claim, however, and it could not be independently confirmed. As for the technical ability of Team Lieberman, it, too, could not be assessed with confidence.”
Hi egregious – I finally found my way around your website – it’s amazing work you do.
Have a good last day and a safe trip home. Hopefully, by the time you touch down, Lamont will be the CT Democratic candidate for the US Senate.
Go Ned and Phread (who I am convinced is there in CT helping)!
scarecrow – what a great boost your comment was! We are all on the edges of our seats (I’m about to move to the edge of my bed, though!), and really jazzed for tomorrow.
Many, many thanks to you and all the other FDL family who are working so hard to make this happen.
I feel like I am almost at the tippy-top of the roller-coaster, and expect tomorrow will be the wild ride…
Anne to Anne – hope the NSA’s heads are spinning!
Off to bed – sweet dreams, hopes for Ned, energy and stamina for all of you on the front lines!
*xyz says:
“Tomorrow, will the move on phone bank website be directing us to folks who are pro-Lamont, or will it just be a general registered Democrats list?”
That is what I have been wondering tonight. I tried to call for moveon, and they wanted me to ask people who they are voting for–apparently in November, the choices were a Republican and a Democrat–in a House race, and only then ask about Lamont/Lierman. It seemed like we were doing voter ID calls–which I don’t think is what you want to be doing the night before the election, it should have been done a long time ago. So tomorrow, are we going to be calling back the “Lamont” people and telling them to GOTV? It seems like that is what we should have been doing tonight.
I will make calls tomorrow if we are telling people to get out to vote–but not if we are doing a pointless survey.
BarbaraB — Will do, though you probably just did; but if not, they’ll all be at the Hotel across the street from Lamont HQ tomorrow night.
Has anybody heard any more from Hope?
All I can say is wow…

Yeah, me, too, Anne, and it really pisses me off. Reading John Dean’s Conservatives without a Conscience is a mindblower for me. He describes the authoritarian mindset chillingly. There are a ton of people out there who think that lying, cheating and deliberately misleading any and everyone in order to get your way are not only OK but admirable personality traits.
See, I’m naive as hell. I only believe the worst about people when I’ve seen it with my own two blues. Now I’ve gotta admit to myself what y’all have prob’ly known forever – there are far more bad people like BushCheneyBolton out there than is good for democracy. Bush’s crack about dictatorships being easier…as long as he’s the dictator, was a warning, not a Freudian slip.
I’d like to nominate this book for book salon. Maybe together we can figure out how to use their tendencies to sink their ship.
Once a neocon, always a neocon, I guess. Now admit it, Fund really does resemble a weasel, no offense to the weasel intended.
Wilson: pity.
I went to college with David Frum, and he was definitely one of those guys. Though I only knew him from his writing for the school paper. He was a smug bastard, even at that age.

We need some way to focus on calling people who have been identified as pro-Lamont and remind them to vote. Does such a mechanism exist? This is critical folks! Where do we go for this information? Thanks.
As an independent org, MoveOn if forbidden from coordinating with the Lamont Campaign. In an ideal world, the Lamont Campaign would have be running the national equivalent of the MoveOn phone bank.
On Election Day, do your phone banking through Lamont HQ; if they can’t keep you busy, go to MoveOn as a fall back phone bank data base.
All I can say is wow…

If a Gerstein falls in the woods and nobody’s there does it make a sound?
Answer: No ; )
I so wanted to get to bed early tonight. I laid down, but my mind kept wandering.
I felt good about the campaign when I left Bridgeport tongight. I am just a worrier, I guess, but tomorrow is going to be a long day of waiting, I think.

Excellent graph of Ned’s trendlines over the last 60 days
It’s from a very forgettable WSJ article and you have to scroll down. You don’t need to subscribe to look at the graph.
Neurophius -
I agree 100%. I understood why the campaign may want to survey voters up to and including August 7, but now they have to focus on getting out the voters who they KNOW are voting for Ned. Move On should have a huge list of Lamont voters by now. Hopefully tomorrow they will unleash us phone bankers on the LAMONT list so we can remind every Lamont voter to get out and vote.
I will post this comment over at the official Lamont Blog so hopefully Tim T. or others can respond. If anyone else knows the answers to these questions, please let us know!!! It is critical that we focus our efforts where they are most needed right now – so this needs to be resolved ASAP!
Thanks and keep up the great work!

heh heh. Agreed. Some of us survived to rise above the nerdkillers & become caring, semi-normal humans, and some became wicked rovers et al., striking back for the rest of their lives at everyone because of perceived demons from back in middle school.
YIKES. time to give it a rest, & give everyone a rest from my blather. Night all.
Tomorrow’s a big one. Keep those paper bags & fainting couches handy, lurkers (me most definitely included) ;->
p.s., in the interest of preserving sanity among the ranks, lurkers would be advised to keep network & cable news turned OFF till Tue. eve. Just sayin’…
Ohio Blue–You missed a lot of comments on this thread about Ohio political crooks.
Scarecrow, I’m so glad you’re down there, I’m sorry I missed the chance, but had to work, of course. Please give my love to everyone and thanks again to Deb and Selise.
goodnight everyone, going to rest now and see you early as our pups get to the polls, I hope.
Sweet Dreams.

americablog on a wapo article
“americans are anti-incumbent”
I most like the line -
The problem for Democratic candidates such as Lieberman who continue to support the war seems even plainer. Strategists wonder how many Democratic voters, like those backing Lieberman’s challenger, Ned Lamont, feel so strongly about the issue that will be willing to punish one of their own who strays. “It was a problem in 2004, and it’s going to be a bigger problem in 2006 if you’re a Democrat who’s seen as an accommodationist or a capitulationist,” said Mark Mellman, a Democratic consultant.
because I am not sure that accommodationist and capitulationist have been words before now.
-ck-
If that is true about Move On, I feel like my time calling 260 plus numbers today was somewhat less effectively spent than it could have been.
Could you please let me know the number for the Lamont headquarters through which I can do phone banking from afar? I’m not sure where to look for this info. Thanks.
*xyz
I sent the Lamont org. an e-mail on the subject. Hope to hear back from them.
They probably have a much better idea of what they are doing at this point than I do.
MoveOn’s membership voted to support Ned Lamont in this primary, so they could have their own program aimed at Lamont voters without coordinating with Ned’s campaign.
because I am not sure that accommodationist and capitulationist have been words before now.

Shouldn’t someone run over to Lman headqtrs Wed a.m. & show them how to plug the thing in? In all humanity, people…
neurophius at 8:38:
I agree, but MoveOn may not have that information. Most campaigns have their “good guy” lists and update them from poll watchers so they don’t call people who have already voted. For the number of people who could help out remotely, it’s probably not worth taking up staff time on their busiest days to coordinate with MoveOn.
One of the Lamont staffers made a big deal out of insisting that phone callers must place calls physically from the Lamont office because he wanted the caller id to show up as CT. He was violently opposed to anyone from out of state making canvassing calls. I pointed out to him that callers could block their caller id, or if they had a service such as Vonage, could list their caller ID at anyplace in CT. He wouldn’t listen. His mind was closed.
SpazeBoy is too cute and bright to be really str8 — if he has a 6-pack, we know he isnt…

We have to sit him down in front of an episode of Project Runway, and watch his reactions to the outfits hehe.
it’s getting time for me to go to sleep — now to convince two recumbent pitbulls to move from my sleeping space …
*ilson, Pach — having met him and his girlfriend, I think further speculation is not warranted. In fact, my favorite line from the “Spazeboy is cute” thread a couple weeks back was from Grandma__, who said, “I think he’s cute too, but my reaction was to bake him some cookies!” Can’t top that.
In 2004, I volunteered for both the MoveOn GOTV and the local Democratic GOTV — MoveOn was the best of the two.
Even though the MoveOn org and the Lamont Campaign org are forbidden from coordinating with each other, there is nothing to stop a MoveOn phone banker from calling Lamont HQ, if they run across a voter that needs a ride to the polls.
Have I made myself clear, MoveOn phone bankers?
In fact, my favorite line from the “Spazeboy is cute” thread a couple weeks back was from Grandma__, who said, “I think he’s cute too, but my reaction was to bake him some cookies!”

Thanks, Redshift, for confirming my hunch. Just find people who knew the weasels back when & they were the same but still in the training phase. Now I am wondering what they were like as children & just imagine little baby neocons. Shudder.

If only I could get a job that paid me big money for poor performance and making up new words all the time. I have a great deal of candidatory quality to recommendate myself to such a position.
Eli, aren’t you cute?
MoveOn’s membership voted to support Ned Lamont in this primary, so they could have their own program aimed at Lamont voters without coordinating with Ned’s campaign.
Good point; I hadn’t thought of that.
BarbaraB — it will happen.
Great! And *ilson and Pach, you two settle down and play nice. IIRC, Spazeboy’s girlfriend’s name is Amy. Poor TRex, up there surrounded by cute straight men. I hope he’s having a wonderful time anyway.

weasels are WAY cuter as kits, and WAY smarter as adults…
This thread is way overdue for EPU’ing, so I am making my forecast and calling it a night:
1. Ned Lamont over Joe Lieberman by 2.5% Liberman concedes at 11:05 PM (give or take).
2. Several days after the election, Lieberman decides not to run as an independent, citing loyalty to his party, blah blah blah, but he really does so because he knows he has become a pariah, and none of his political buddies will support him on an Indy run. So much for loyalty among politicians.
-ck-
Let me get something straight.
If Move-On gives phone bankers a pro-Lamont-focused list, it is perfectly fine for phone bankers to call that list and encourage those voters to get out and vote if they can.
Nothing inappropriate about this whatsoever, correct?
If so, great, hopefully Move On will provide us with this phone-banking list tomorrow so we can call all identified pro-Lamont supporters and remind them to vote.
I have emailed Move-On about this, but I suggest others do so as well. They probably respond best to volume of requests at this point… Thanks!
Hi, everyone. Go, Lamont!!!

just have to hope TRex was correct in predicting that the beltwayans shall be coming knocking with stacks of cash to get them some bloggers, pronto. If they can beat 18/hr, I am ready to sell out, er, buy in.

That is a wise choice — and it probably was a top down decision. If an out of stater tries to phone back for the Lamont Campaign, the odds of their data/feedback being lost is much higher.
If you are out of state, go with MoveOn, and do your best to Get-Out-The-Vote. If you get an answering machine, remind them that Tuesday is Election Day, and Please Remember to VOTE for NED LAMONT!!!

I am wary about indiscriminately “getting out the vote”.
Wouldn’t we be much better off if we focused on pro-Lamont lists? And shouldn’t Move On supply such lists?
Nightline’s coverage of the race amounted to little more than an extended political advertisement for Joe Lieberman.
Outrageous. ABC apparently decided to tacitly endorse Joe.
ABC in the tank for Lieberman.

I am trying to get on the move on website in order to do phones tomorrow for Lamont. I have not been to accesss from firedog website or other…….any help?
Adie: You’re so right. The weasel animal is much cuter than Fund but their eyes are meant to be that close together!
Gotta get to bed…I’m losing it.
I remember happily voting for Barney Frank when I was in his district when he first ran. No age thing here!
When Quale gave his talk to the United Negro College Fund, and it was written in The NYT Magazine, I was with my beloved mother and was trying desperately to read it to her, but was convulsed with laughter. I started crying with tears of laughter and desperation to get my breath. My mother, who was an Independent and whom I knew loved me very much, said to my red face and tears, “Mary, stop laughing. Mary, what is so funny?” and I could not speak…everytime I tried to read what was printed, I collapsed in hysteria. Actual hysteria. I could not believe that anyone who was a Vice President of this country could be so lame, stupid, and devoid of words for that occasion. I am not laughing now and have not been for six years. There is no laughter now in any victory over anything. I don’t want to fuck anyone hard or vise versa, but I do want to win, and I mean it. Hard.
All I can say is wow…
- The senator’s aides blamed the shutdown on liberal bloggers and other opponents. “They hate Bush but they use the same tactics as the Bush campaign,” said Dan Gerstein, a Lieberman adviser, referring to the bloggers.“
[saunters in…shakes the keg, foamy sloshing sound ensues] Hey y’all, how we holding up?
Where did this above statement come from?
It came from here: http://stevegilliard.blogspot……stein.html
Eli — if you’d ditch that awful shirt, you’d be quite doable …
Dressing like a complete lunatic *defined* me for about 10-12 years. I probably still would if I could.
Here’s a more recent one, complete with Nixon/Agnew button.

In regard to your being “cute”…
I finally got one of your jokes from over an hour ago.
“He’ll probably do a complete 360 tomorrow.”
A belated ROFL. Duh.
I don’t get this. Why is Lamont’s canvassing operation so slipshod by comparison? He is running this race like an amateur (ok, a newbie, which he is). Is it too late for Lamont to dump another million or so into the race and hire his own canvassers (or Lieberman’s)?
Do you not understand the machine politics concept? Lieberman has an 18 year old machine, Lamont has a six month old machine. Defections to Lamont have helped, but its grass/netroots supporters, locals and assorted others for Lamont vs. union bosses, precinct committepeople, old line party bosses and paid organizers in Lieberman’s camp. That the race is this close from grass/netroots support and ad buys is why this race has gotten so much attention, it is a NEW WAY TO CAMPAIGN.
Having a lot of paid canvassers has nothing to do with party bosses or 18 year old political machines. It has everything to do with having stacks of $100 bills to hand out to the canvassers so you can have a lot more canvassers than you can find as volunteers, putting their undivided attention into it instead of treating it as a hobby. Lieberman has a lot of $100 bills and he’s handing them out and getting his voters out. Lamont has a lot of $100 bills too, but he’s saving them for posterity instead of using them for GOTV. I hope I’m wrong but I’m predicting a Lieberman win tomorrow, because of this.
I finally got one of your jokes from over an hour ago.
“He’ll probably do a complete 360 tomorrow.”

Heh. It’s also semi-borrowed from The Last Action Hero, where the hitman gets utterly exasperated with Anthony Quinn for using the expression improperly.
Eli — judging from the fotos, you are artsy-fartsy too…
One of the Lamont staffers made a big deal out of insisting that phone callers must place calls physically from the Lamont office because he wanted the caller id to show up as CT. He was violently opposed to anyone from out of state making canvassing calls. I pointed out to him that callers could block their caller id, or if they had a service such as Vonage, could list their caller ID at anyplace in CT. He wouldn’t listen. His mind was closed.
I would have loved to do the call thing myself but after living in Texas since 1980, sadly, although I’m a native Californian, I don’t think my slight Texas accent would fly in Connecticut : (
i am repitching this bitch because it really infuriated me and it is important to pay attention to as we go along.
steve gilliard, whoever the f_ _ k he is wrote this in some piece that was included in an earlier thread:
“Lieberman is a typical boomer, he wants to ossify the past as some kind of character testimonial, but he doesn’t want to deal with the present in any sort of intelligent way. “
what is this bullshit? a typical boomer? like a typical anti war protester or a typical feminists or a typical vietnam vet or draft dodger or teacher or social worker or farm organizer or….this kind of crap turns people off and sets up little meaningless games where folks play with the age cohort or favorite wine cohort or whatever and basically jerk themselves off as the world spins on into disaster…sorry to be cranky the night before the big event but i have been around for alot of big events and the winners take each other’s backs instead of scapegoating each other. hope lieberman goes down hard, hated him since he rolled over for cheney in 2000 but steve can kiss my 58 year old boomer ass.
Sorry,
But at the last minute, I am feeling helpless here in California and want to do somwething beyond the money I sent to Lamont and TRex….I wanna get up early tomorrow morning and make some calls…have sent emails to the Lamont campaugn and to Move on and have heard nothing I WANT TO DO SOMETHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Eli — judging from the fotos, you are artsy-fartsy too…
Oddly, I really don’t consider myself artistic at all. The photographs just kind of happen somehow.
As a hard-core, conservative Bush supporter, I have mixed emotions about this race. Sure, I love watching Kos candidates lose, but if Lamont wins, Republicans will reap several advantages.
Personally, I don’t think Ned’s going to pull it out. Which means trouble for the three CT Repub House seats.
*Sigh*
Cozumel–There are multitudes of residents in CT who originated from other places. I doubt anyone would have questioned your accent. Wish you could have made those calls.
I was in the presence of the Lamont staffer when he said that, standing in Lamont campaign headquarters in Meriden, CT.
There are many many people who would have made calls from out of state, if the campaign would have permitted it. But they refused that help.

Corrrect –
If MoveOn develops a Pro-Ned Lamont call-back list, via feedback from MoveOn canvassers, that is A-Okay — so long as they do not coordinate with the Lamont Campaign.
Obviously, it would be better for all concerned if a campaign could do it all in house, but that is not possible — yet.
So yes, if MoveOn can provide a call back list of Pro-Lamont voters, more power to them.
As far as a MoveOn canvasser calling the Lamont Campaign to give them a heads up on a voter needing transportation — DO NOT call them as a representative of MoveOn. That is ILLEGAL. But as a concerned citizen, who just *happens* to volunteer for both organizations, who *learned* of a Connecticut voter who needs transportation — well, it’s probably still illegal, but who’s going to know?
my two cents . . .
I am trying to get on the move on website in order to do phones tomorrow for Lamont. I have not been to accesss from firedog website or other…….any help?
zoebird, I didn’t have a problem pulling up the site:

Try copying and pasting this URL into a fresh browser and see if that helps.
Evening Fini! Here’s the link you are asking about:
*ilson, Steve Gilliard has paid you a compliment, although he didn’t name you.
The Lamont web team are pros, the Lieberman team couldn’t even buy the right domain names to protect their guy. Connecticut for Lieberman.com is gone. http://stevegilliard.blogspot……stein.html
Thanks for the link, Captain Goto, and *oot, *ilson!
Thanks for the link, and for the other person who linky-poo’d me as well!
As for Lieberman’s much vaunted $100 Bill Brigade, I doubt they will be very effective. I think it will be close, but I think we shall overcome.
oh, sorry, we’ve moved on.

Okay, thanks.
Now, if Move On doesn’t use the Pro-Lamont voter information it has gathered to develop focused phone-banking lists, then it should be sued for malpractice.
To be clear – if someone has self-identified to Move On as a Pro-Lamont voter, then it doesn’t matter WHO calls him or her on election day to remind them to vote.
These pro-Lamont voters have already made up their mind and just need a last bit of encouragement.
Move On has identified such voters through our efforts. All Move On needs to do is give motivated callers the list of these voters and we can encourage everyone to get out and vote!
Hopefully it works out this way.
Is there any truth to this?
From
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/08…..nted=print
‘Lamont aides complained that the Lieberman team was trying to steal its workers by offering $150 for the day; Mr. Lamont was paying $85.’
No Lamont worker I’ve seen paid or volunteer would switch sides for money. No one I’ve run into was doing it for the dough, in fact, I’d be hard pressed to point to anyone on the street who wasn’t strictly volunteer.
I thought the deal was that Joe was paying 60 then bumped it to 150, which is like buying support. Maybe Joe is just anticipating voting for that estate tax cut and so bumped his wages too in the spirit of the bill?
why no word yet from the theropod?

New Wankette column, on the Kos-as-kingmaker meme and the race:
Almost all the national coverage of the race has focused on how the liberal blogosphere has propelled Lamont — a skinny billionaire whose talking points consist of being anti- war and not Joe Lieberman — to his lead over Joe Lieberman.
What a twerp.
ESU – Evil Serial Universe?
frank probst – false colors or repeating choruses?
Trolls of the rainbow-colored variety. Sisters, please leave the cute straight boy alone.
Howard Fineman:
OK, I listened to the repeat and he did say there was a civil war in the Dem party over Iraq.
BUT, he said it was a good thing and the party needs to have this out so they can go forward as a leadership party.
Or something like that.
Pretty stupid to characterize it that way when there is a real civil war going on in the Middle East.
If any of you firepups have been stress eating while you hang out here and are feeling bloated and you live in the more western regions of the continent, you might want to tune into McCain on Jay Leno’s show.
Much better than a finger down the back of the throat, if you know what I mean.

ck–I am an out-of-stater who went to Connecticut to work on the Lamont campaign. How’s that?
That’s GREAT!!!
You went to Connecticut, and volunteered for the Lamont Campaign — we need more America Loving Patriots like you!!!
If you can’t volunteer for the Lamont Campaign in Connecticut on election day, there is nothing stopping you from volunteering for MoveOn’s virtual GOTV effort.
Hopefully, their humongous database servers will have crunched the data, so they will only send you Pro-Lamont or Lamont Leaning voter contact information.
Go, NED LAMONT!!! Go Team; Go, Fight, WIN!!!

I will never ever buy another brand of salad dressing ever again.
‘The Lamont campaign also set in motion its first automated phone call, an appeal from Paul Newman, the actor and an advocate for liberal causes, who lives in Connecticut.’
Let’s face it, we’re all cute at the ‘lake.

My business experience tells me otherwise. My business partner is a New Yorker and he works that area. I handle the South and Southwest. They don’t like Yankees “in these here parts” for some reason.

Yes, it was clever, but I didn’t hear you quote it.
I mistakenly took it for a straightforward comment until I happened to go back and see it again.

Why Eli, you look like a young Robert Urich. Somehow I pictured you as shaggy. Longer hair and maybe a beard.
Hm. I can kinda see that for the first pic, but not so much for the second. I actually am pretty shaggy – no beard, but I generally shave only 2-3 times a week (I’m usually running late, and that’s the first thing I throw overboard), and I only get my hair cut (buzzed) about 3-4 times a year.

If I were a betting dame my money would be on the rumor that HoJo has already been rehearsing his sorry speech on Wednesday.
Happily, since I fully expect to be quite exhausted from celebrating Lamont’s slam dunk victory tomorrow evening, it matters not one whit to me what his most unworthy opponent could ever say, ever, ever, ever.
And what are you other late night firepups/lambs wearing to the party?

I was wondering whether he’d show up. I figured he’d be voting for Ned, but I’m glad he’s doing this. I don’t care how many calls you’ve already gotten, no one is going to hang up on Paul Newman. Even RoboPaul.
Hoping that Paul Newman will do some robo-calling for DiFi. What I wouldn’t give to pick up the phone and have those blue eyes on the other end of the line!
Late to the party ( as usual ) But I have to say . . THANK YOU – THANK YOU – THANK YOU !!
Thank you Jane – Wow awesome!
Thank you Cristy Fantastic work!
Thank you Spazeboy!
Thanks to the entire FDL group.
But Especially – THANK YOU NED LAMONT! You’re inspiring, and are truly bring a wonderful energy back to all our lives.
And oh boy does it feel good!!
I happen to think the “Disco Shirt” makes you certifiably “adorable”. So there.
Eli, you are cute in spirit, dear.
Well, thank you. You’re very kind.
If the campaign decided to shut down the out-of-state phone banking, they probably know what they’re doing. I’d hate to be a CT voter right now. From what I understand, they’re inundated with calls and they hate the fuck out of it. Lamont’s people need to be showing their faces door to door, not phoning; supplying rides to the polls is also a big deal in some regions.

About Firedoglake
Lieberman has turned out the machine and he’s flooding the cities with cash — $150 per day for kids in Hartford (up from $60). All we’ve got to combat that with are passion and commitment. If you can volunteer to phone bank, you can do so through MoveOn here. If you can make it to Connecticut to turn out the vote, you can get more info here .
As Arbogast said, "Fuck ‘em hard. This is for all the marbles."
