If for nothing else, Lieberman’s disgusting use of race in this campaign, signals how desperate he is and his real lack of respect of and contempt for African Americans.

Lieberman’s Sunday “conversion” was a preposterous effort to lie his way back into the Senate, even while still refusing to rule out running as an Independent as he declared himself a loyal Democrat. It was so riddled with hypocrisy, mistruths and Joementum self-pity that it will never allow you to trust a person who wears their “piety” on their sleeve again.

To start off, I’m happy to hear that you made it to the Norwalk office! I’ve spent several days there in the past week; not only do they have a great AC system, but there are good folks there, and the busload of NYC volunteers yesterday made for good vibes (though I was in Greenwich, we still talked about it).

Anyway: despite the obvious downsides, phone calls and canvassing are still the best methods we have to move voters. I’ve been working phone banks all weekend (and before) and I know full well that some people don’t appreciate it; in Ned’s campaign, we never call such people a second time (if the database is working right). I wish there were a less intrusive instrument for this kind of work, but presently there are none (a fact that I pose as a challenge to my fellow technology entrepreneurs). Nevertheless, many of Lamont’s supporters are quite receptive to our calls and eager to vent their views to a sympathetic ear. A polite listener, offering solid information and logistical support, might just be the final factor in getting them to the polls.

Quite a few are feeling optimistic, but Tim and some of us are worried about Lieberman’s last minute push with hired kids blanketing the contested areas.

I volunteered yesterday in Lamont’s Norwalk office. First of all, there was standing room only – lots of people phoning, lots of people canvassing – all eager volunteers. Then we got to meet Congresswoman Waters who was there to walk the Italian festival going on in SoNo.

What I found when calling is that people are sick to death of being called. I had one person tell me “I can’t do this any more.” Another person told me she couldn’t wait until Wednesday.

In fact I’m concerned that all the phone calls being made might be counter productive. Folks in Connecticut haven’t never been in an Iowa or New Hampshire-like primary and I think they are sick of being contacted about either candidate. My concern is folks are going to say, “a pox on both houses” – but then I’m not up on “voting psychology.”

But I did want to say what incredible work Maura is doing. She had the place running efficiently and effectively – with lots of people coming in and out of the office. I’ve been involved in many campaigns but this was one of the best run ones I’ve seen. Great work Maura and team.
