AP/Haraz N. Ghanbari
For the week ending 8/5/06:
Welcome to the sweltering dog days of summer, when the heat is so unrelenting and the news so demoralizing that it takes all of your will not to rip off your clothes and stagger down the street screaming in the vain hope that somehow, somewhere, someone rational is going to step in and make the world right. Judging from the roundup, it looks like the heat was getting to everyone over the past seven days.
After I reviewed what I’d harvested, it occurred to me that this week, the blogs were unusually rich with stories about boobs. Not just boobs of the mammarial variety, but the right wing dunderheads, imbeciles, and buffoons providing a cornucopia of boobosity. I had a "Eureka!" moment, and I was going to name this column "The Week of the Boob" when I learned that this was actually National Clown Week. The serendipity of that . . . well, it just kind of freaked me out. I really don’t like clowns. They’re openly hostile and have major boundary issues and are fashion victims and they scare me.
But I digress. In order to acknowledge this fortuitous cleaving of events, I dub this week: Week of the Scary Stupid Boob.
With virtually the entire planet a giant "hot spot" thanks to Scary Stupid Boob Numero Uno’s foreign policy, Dr. Atta J. Turk pens an ode to the Preznit’s "merdes touch." He’s still waiting to hear from Nick Lowe’s people.
The heat and the stress must be getting to Bush as well, because according to Holden of the Ponies, the Preznit’s typically tortured extemporizin’ is growing even more incoherent. Maybe they’ve upped his dosage. Good thing it’s vacatin’ time for Chimpy McFlightsuit, cuz nothing says evironmental conservation like hacking down all the trees on your property to show your daddy that you’re twice the man he ever was.
Yes, it’s August, and since Bush will be avoiding Cindy Shee. . . er, cutting short his vacation, the window of opportunity for a colossal fuckup by the administration is now officially open. The Man of Inaction’s got dem craaaaazy legs just thinking about it! And if it’s August, then September (and all that that implies) can’t be far behind. Are you ready?
Although I was rather miffed that his real name isn’t Throatwarbler Mangrove, TBogg deserves special commendation for his weeklong coverage of the Prom Queen of Scary Stupid Boob High School, "Israeli Trippin’ Pammy" of Atlas’ Juggs. As if Israel wasn’t already knee-deep in it, Mizz Thang slipped out of her "investigative reporter" costume and went to Tel Aviv undercover as a tourist, where, when she wasn’t busy looking for a Tasti-D-Lite store or buying up all the camo tank tops, was thrusting her videocamera and her double barrels into the faces of weakly smiling soldiers and transforming the Israeli-Hezbollah conflict into her own gum-snapping melodrama. (In her defense, at least she went to Israel, which is more than I can say for Doughy "Fighting the War on Terror From the Driver’s Seat of a Minivan Somewhere in Oregon" Pantload.)
Frankly, the whole of NRO’s The Corner is the Borg of Scary Boobs. Roy at alicublog watches in morbid fascination as K-Lo and Lebanese-born Whalid Phares try to analyze "the Lebanon problem."
What I dislike more than scary stupid boobs like Bush are angry, delusional ones. Jean Schmidt, that little bundle of distemper wrapped in a bow, this week penned a "Dear Santa" letter that makes your average kindergartner’s attempts at collecting their thoughts sound like Solzhenitsyn. But it’s her rip-off of Richard Condon that is most laughable:
The United States is the kindest, most generous country to ever exist on this planet.
You can’t make this scheisse up. Sporty, over at Roger Ailes, takes a red pen to the rest of Mean Jean’s letter.
Finally, other Boobs in Brief:
The Self-Destructing Boob: Charlie Pierce has a few choice words for Senator Lieberman (D. Buh-Bye), General J.C. Christian has a few GOTV pointers for the purchased Lieberyouth, and Nim, the Hamhock of Liberty, provides a helpful fashion tip.
Alcohol-Addled-and-Anti-Semitic Boobs: Jews worldwide were thrilled to find out that Mel Gibson, the Malibu Martyr, has a Jewish publicist and an Israeli bodyguard. World O’ Crap and The Editors answer all of your questions about Melcoholism.
The Rapidly Deflating Boob: Oh, Katie. It’s so much fun watching you career around the room as the air hisses out of your campaign.
The "Eww, You Did WHAT to Rush?" Boob: I know you’re all terribly heartened to learn that after breaking up with Rush Limbaugh, Daryn Kagan is now breaking up with CNN to start her own "spiritual" website.
The Boob of Shock and Awe: It was great fun watching Donald Rumsfeld rewrite history on Thursday (and even more fun watching Hillary Clinton bitchslap him). My goodness.

twolf1 – good things do happen in this world!
Watertiger – I heard about Kagan’s departure on Friday and heard her site was going to be “good news only”. I surmised that her first post should be the fact that I no longer have to get sick to my stomach when ever I see her on CNN and picture her with Rush BBLLLLEEECHHHH!! Now that’s good news!
His Tribal Name would be “Holden-Many-Ponies” –
Atlas’ Juggs teehee.
twolf1 @ 3
Is she thinkin’ something might turn good in 15 weeks?
op99 @ 8
Maybe she’s believing all those ‘end of days’ armageddon reports that Paula Zahn and Kira (sp?) Phillips have been spewing forth almost daily.
Daryn Kagan’s departure is all about what she will do until her Restrictive Covenant lapses and she can become a FoxNews talking head.
It’s also indicative of living in a fantasy world.
anybody who could be the “Georgia mistress” of Rush Limbaugh is definitely standing in the need of prayer !
*ilson, she might do ok without prayer as long as he doesn’t get that script filled.
we don need no stinkin’ scripts!
?????????????????????????????
say what you want about daryn kagan, kids, but remember that ms. kagan was the very first talking head to mention skippy the bush kangaroo on national tv (in relation to blogs and bloggin), way back in the dogs days of the democratic convention summer of ‘04.
we are currently working on our own tribute to ms. kagan.
Wake me up when September ends….
donna @ 16
I’m holding out hope for the November Rain :)
Kurt @ 17,
I like the way you think.
twolf1 @ 3
Took most of the words straight outta my mouth, albeit I confess I have a bit more of a potty mouth than a gallant like you when it comes to Miz Kagen. aggggghhhhhhh –
OT – Judy Miller is milking her self styled victim campaign in California this weekend visiting a reporter being held in Federal detention for refusing to give up his sources. Poor guy, I wish he had refused the visit but then I’m not locked up and can hardly blame him.
Speaking of clowns…did anyone else notice that DINO JOE looks like Teller’s father?

Just askin’
Joe Lieberman is starting to remind me of a scary person in a Stephen King novel…picture him in clown makeup, and I think the ensemble is complete…*g*
Anne Holliday 19 – I purposely left out my comments about Rush’s cigars ;)
I apologize ex post facto for some of the expletives; I have a lot of respect for this neighborhood and try to keep it clean here, but my gutter mouth sometimes get the better of me.
watertiger @ 23
Yeah, we’re all models of decorum here at the lake. ;)
skippy at 15 — well, I don’t know about everyone else, but I’ve always considered that the best moment of Kagan’s career.
Good pix at the top. Love that grimace of our rootin-tootin president. Either this hobby-horse, imitation cowboy-bootee wearing Napoleon is finally coming to grips with the trouble he’s in. Orrrr, he’s badly in need of Beano. Probably the latter.
watertiger, thank you for giving (eloquent) voice to my fear of clowns.
Anne, a pox on you for morphing Joe with clown-ness in my mind! eek! — and ick.

America! Fuck Yeah !
Alan Shore of Boston Legal is afraid of clowns. You’re in good company.
OT – but last night I watched a cspan speech by Susan McDoughal. Very excellent speech. She spent quite a bit of time leading up to her meeting with Star. She said she watched what happen to Jim McDoughal and how he got bribed by David Hale and others with many gifts and promises. And Jim then begged her to join their troop and tell them what they wanted.
Question she answered was 1) why did she decided she could not join, and 2) why did she not tell them what she knew to be true. Her answer was she felt with everyone saying that their truth was true and hers would be judged as lies — she was doomed anyway. And without a lawyer that early, she told her family she would just say nothing. AT all.
Mostly then she talked about her days in different jails and how the women she met, including Murder’s row, showed her what the true face of being a Christian was. Not the religousity of Ken Star and his minions.
Excellent speech. Many in the audience asked rather confrontational questions (this was in Arkansas) but she handled it well. Watch it if one gets a chance.
Coulrophobia – Fear of Clowns
Coulterphobia – Fear of sociopathic clowns
cbl @ 31
LOLOLOL! Lawdy, I didn’t realize there was an actual word for the fear of clowns.
christy at 25, thanks so much, i also thought it was the highlight of her career. tho she actually completely misquoted what i said to the point of diluting my point out of existence.
cbl @ 31
Can’t sleep, clown will eat me!
skippy –
As long as they spell your name right and post the correct URL, it’s all good.
On a totally OT topic, someone on this wonderful blog tipped me of to the Toy Dolls (either T-rex, or someone posting to T-rex?)
I attended college back in the punk rock days, and became an early fan. I am proud to say one of my friends fell asleep against a Ramones speaker while they were playing at Toad’s Place in New Haven (he was really sleepy, or something).
But I never heard of the Toy Dolls, perhaps due to gradumacating in 1981, and spending the next decade or so playing my old records.
Anyways thanks to said kind Firepup, Toy Dolls ROXXOR!!11!!

Thanks for the C-Span head’s up on Susan McDoughal – hope to catch it. An old friend and high school roommate in Sewanee (in the late 50’s) wrote to Susan during her incarceration and shared some of the correspondence. I’ve had have enormous respect for Miss Susan ever since her nightmare in the misogynistic Starr Chamber.
Our Secretary of idiocy, Rice, says today: that the U.N draft resolution cannot solve the problems in Lebanon. But the problems are not in Lebanon, Condi. The problems are in Israel, the White House, the Congress, and above all, Gaza. Who the hell do you think you’re kidding, Ms. Rice?
Christy Hardin Smith @ 25
I think she’s leaving just in time. With that shaggy haircut and her pinched cheeks, she’s starting to look like a cave boy.
Anne Holliday – Susan mentioned all the correspondence she received. She said it was the first jail she was in (a crowded cell meant for 9 but contained 15) where she received a bag full of mail. And all 15 women, many of them violent criminals, helped opened the mail and they would read them all night. She mentioned that it was her first clue that she had friends on the outside and that some people in America actually got what Star was doing, not just to her but to America.
She said the letters were inspirational AND transformational.
This administration increasingly reminds me of an AbFab episode gone horribly, horribly wrong. Like all the drugs and booze, but none of the fashion sense and humor.
The nation needs to collectively climb to the top of the Eiffel Tower and flash our collective national boobs :)
Anne Holliday @ 37
Anne, did you know Darrell Wyatt-Brown?
LindaR – I’m so sorry…it’s just that Joe’s simpering whininess has a kind of sinister edge for me lately, and that’s what got me thinking “Stephen King.” That led me right to the clown image – and Joe, when his mouth is open in that kind of half-grin, is missing only the clown makeup. (Either that, or I expect his tongue to shoot out and snap up a fly – there’s a bit of frogginess there, too).
And I think FDL had a darkblack graphic of Joe as a clown, if I am remembering correctly.
GrandmaJ @ 39
Wow and thanks – brought tears to my eyes – hope my library has her book. And I’ll be sure to send this along to my old roomie. Hugs to you GrandmaJ!!!!
The nation needs to collectively climb to the top of the Eiffel Tower and flash our collective national boobs :)
Doesn’t that happen every time Bush is on TV?
somebody (arf! arf!) has adopted the most minimalist screenname ever seen here …
Anne Holliday, apologies if you have already seen this:

Anne Holliday,
I have attempted to contact you at the e-mail addresses that you provided, with no success. Perhaps if you get Christy or Jane to forward a missive to me, we can connect.”
Bold is mine.
somebody (arf! arf!) has adopted the most minimalist screenname ever seen here …
Joe Lieberman, perhaps? In honor of his minimalist future as a Senator?
*ilson46201 @ 45
and your little dog too?
So it’s safe to assume that CNN canned Kagan? No doubt she didn’t give up her gig to start up “her venture.” Q: Who’s next? Do you think this was simply timing (i.e., CNN decided to not renew her contract), or are they going to do a purge given that it appears there could be some political changes come this November?
ifthethunderdontgetya @ 36
I once fed sliced tomatoes to Joey Ramone. To my eternal mortification, I long ago lost the T-shirt from that gig.
…et ton petit chien aussi
Anne Holliday – this will be my last comment about Susan.
As she talked about the women she met and the religous folks that ministered to them, she cried, I cried – she especially mentioned a certain Christmas Eve right after she was moved – again – by Starr. All alone without any necessities, she heard Christmas Carols. A nun was walking down the cell with speakers in each pocket holding a boombox and singing in the worst voice one could imagine. And everyone on Murderes Row was silent or sang along.
Yup, I was crying all right. Sorry, but I cannot forget the story she told last night. She is writing a new book about the people she met along her journey.
Sorry for being so OT, but we should not forget the long road this country has been on since Ken Starr and his minions showed us the dark side of politics.

ROTFLMAO.
I really hope I catch Susan McDoughal on cspan..don’t see it repeated yet on their schedule. I have always been angry that her story was never covered as it should have been…like a million others that deserve msm attention. All I noticed on cspan today was sociopathic clown coulter.
the same folk enabling and supporting Ken Starr are now enabling and supporting Gitmo.
allegedly Bill Clinton explained the impeachment effort to Al Gore “It’s a fucking coup d’etat !” How prescient he was …
I have always been terrified of clowns.
With Bush and his Insane Clown Posse in control of the Government, we all should be afraid of clowns . . .

Oh, dear! It is me.
Yikes – - did one of our dogs hit the tab and delete keys when I wasn’t looking?
So , Anne, ’twas I inquiring about Daryl Wyatt-Brown. Her grandmother lived a few blocks from campus, too.
OT — Is anyone calling for MoveOn? I just got someone who said they are voting for Joe Lieberman! The script calls for us to say something like thank you and hang up, gah! So hard to keep. my. mouth. shut.
Bien sur, John Casper at 52.
*ilson 51, remind me never to try to put one over on you.
Any words of encouragement would be much needed about now. It’s hard for me to make it to the grocery store because of being mentally ill and usually that means working in Russia isn’t much harder than usual. Right now I am experiencing a spiritual attack that has me on my knees and begging. Any prayers in support much appreciated. Don’t know if I’m going to make it. We fight against not only flesh and blood but spiritual enemies. Ephesians 6.

Yes… Susan McDoughal. As it happens, I admire her. Have for years. What a difference twixt this woman and Judith miller.
LindaR –
Thanks for calling!!! Just mark them down as *Pro-Lieberman, and Move On!!!

LindaR,
I just got one, too. I remained cheery and thanked them for their time.

Hang in there, egregious! Paul wrote “There is nothing in all creation . . . ” exactly for moments like this – Romans 8. You are NOT alone, and you WILL make it.
Watertiger,
Thanks for the link. You have no idea how much it means.
Hey watertiger, Isn’t it your birthday?

Is this some new requirement? Fuck ‘em if they can’t take a joke.
Every time I see DarynKagan’s name, especially as all one word like that, I see ‘drunk again’, which I suppose is what you’d have to be to date Rush, ech.
Anne Holliday @ 56
You know, I think she did have a nickname, but I can’t remember it. Something silly.
My brother was a freshman at Sewanee when Darryl was in the high school. Brother was still carrying a torch for Darryl’s sister Ekie, from their days at St. Stephens, Austin.
Their dad (Charlie Wyatt-Brown?) was rector at St. Mark’s, Beaumont.
I believe it was his mother who lived at Sewanee.
I am on my meds.
I am throwing myself on the mercy and goodness of the Lord who saw fit to create me with a combination of brilliance and mental illness. I try to serve Him with all I have and sometimes it just seems too hard to go on.
Bill,
Nah, my birthday’s not for another 8 days. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!
TeddySanFran @ 75
Teddy, I try to err on the side of caution when playing in a friend’s house. ;-)
LindaR–On Sunday afternoon 36 hours before the polls open, we’re no longer engaged in debate–we’re just trying to win. At this point, it’s more important to get pro-Lamont people to the polls than to try turning weakly pro-Lieberman into weakly pro-Lamont.
A vignette from my phone-banking:
PF: …I’m conducting a short, one minute survey on the U.S. Congress, and…
JS: Sorry, goodbye.
Wife of JS [in background]: Political again?
Sounds like it’s not possible for anyone in Connecticut to not know there’s a primary on Tuesday.
Just to share: I’m getting about 10-15% answering; and statistically insignificant results in favor of Lamont.
watertiger @ 80
fine wine baby :)
egregious, many hands are reaching for you right this minute, and will be reaching for as long as you need them.
Where: still in St. Petersburg trying to save as many lives as I can. Got the irony thingie.
Romans 8–am all over that. Just trying to see how that keeps me here (earth, not Russia). Nothing separates me from the love of God but what if I am too weak and stupid to understand how that gives me enough strength. Apologies for interfering with important events out there.

Oh, Egregious, I can hear the pain you are in.
Only two more days and you’re home. All you have to do is stay with us here at the lake for the next two days, and you can take it from there – - and listen to Peterr.
Don’t know if you’re one of us who thought we always had to sparkle, but you don’t, you know. It’s quite good enough to be you today, and to just wait in God’s loving arms for a better day.
And thank you for asking for our help. You’ve got all you can want.
“They’re openly hostile and have major boundary issues and are fashion victims and they scare me.”
LOL – Ever seen “Killer Klowns from Outerspace”? Puts everything into perspective…
egregious, you are one person, doing all you can, more than you can. And that has to be enough, you can’t do everything.
{{{{{{{{{egregious}}}}}}}}}
egregious honey, hang on tight. You are doing more than most 200 people put together to right the wrongs you see in the world. Your task on earth is hard, but you are doing it. Most aren’t.
I’m crying and praying for you now. what can we do?
(((((egregious,))))
I literally got down on my knees and prayed when I saw your comment – am still on my knees and remind you that God looks upon you exactly the way you look upon all those babies you take care of –
fyi – the other 3 ‘rapid cyclers’ I know have had especially hard times these past few days as well – could be environmental, or maybe folks like y’all just feel the out of kilterness more intently than others – hell I don’t know – but the richness that is you comes through on this screen and there’s only one source for that beauty – am relieved to see you invoke it
please be sure you have some company – and if you are presently enjoying the fruit of the vine – put it down now!
. . . and your little dog, too @ 60
LOL – my pup doesn’t tiptoe on my keyboard but Frances the cat can’t be trusted for a nano second.
If Daryl was a day student at St. Mary’s I’m sure I’d recognize her. Sister Christobelle didn’t let we boarders off campus often – usually accompained by one of the nuns or parents. Too many boys at St. Andrews across the road, not to mention the University of the South nearby. My late sister Mary Hunter Hutchison was two years ahead of my class – my nickname was Annie Fannie which of course I hated even more than Anne Foote – and still do! :~)
Hypatia thank you.
Am feeling like the paralyzed man being raised up to the roof. Pretty helpless, and hoping those ropes don’t break.
egregious @ 79
egregious, you give and you give, and sometimes the well goes dry. It feels to me like it’s time to take a break from serving and replenish yourself. As Teresa of Avila might prescribe (paraphrasing), you can let go of it all so God can fill you up again. Let go of everything you know and everything you think you are supposed to know and do. Be still, and know that . . . you know the rest.
You are so good and kind — it sounds like today the person you are supposed to be good and kind to is — you!
I suffered with depression all my adult life until a couple of years ago. I strongly advocate self-love when the going gets tough. (And yes, the meds are crucial.)
edit: I hope this doesn’t sound preachy! I feel tons of love for you right now.
egregious, sounds to me from a religious perspective like a case of scruples. A lot of great religious figures encounter it, but I am most familiar with it from the writings of Ignatius Loyala.
From a psychological perspective, it’s depression , the opposite as you know from a manic phase. I’ll leave something for you on the prior thread.
cbl and egregious – there is something in the air the last few days. My minor cycling senses it, too. Hang on.
Heh. Just had a caller return my call to her answering machine (caller ID). She’s still undecided, but sounded like she’s going for Ned.
egregious – would it help to go look at the sweet faces of those babies and children your work is saving? Or into the eyes of grateful parents, who, without your help, would be burying their babies instead of celebrating their lives? If you cannot get there, would it help to focus on those children?
When I looked at the links you provided in an earlier thread, I was convinced that what you are doing surely is the power of God working through you, and that thismust be part of God’s plan for you.
Please keep us posted, and let us know you are okay. We are sending you powerful doses of FDL love and support.
Hang in there, please, and if it gets to where you think things are tipping in the wrong direction, please reach out to some of your medical friends – I’m sure they would want to help you through this, too.

egregious @ 85
No apologies needed, e. It seems to me that you are facing some serious snark yourself, so that fits right in here.
So let’s put aside the “too weak and stupid” stuff. You’re strong enough to see you’re dealing with some deep shit, and smart enough to see that you can’t deal with it alone. Good for you!
One of my big beefs with the rightwing TheoCons is their focus on the individual. “I’ve got to believe, I’ve got to be saved, I’ve got to . . . I’ve got to . . . I’ve got to. . .” What they miss is the communal nature of God’s people. God calls us into community, precisely for times like this. You’ve got a whole crowd of folks – of all religious stripes and none at all – standing with you.
How does it give you strength? It’s a reminder that nothing and no one is beyond God’s love. Nothing and no one can cut God off from you.
More Romans 8: “You did not receive a spirit of fear to fall back into slavery, but you have received a spirit of adoption. . . . The Spirit helps us in our weakness, for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words.”
Maybe that’s why I love hymns – good solid hymns – because they remind me of my faith at times when it feels shaky. Hang in there, e – and we’re all hanging in there with you.
Oh egregious – we are all sending you love and support and hugs to hold you as you struggle. In your time in Russia you have expended so much physical and mental energy to do the work you do, dealing with sick kids is VERY hard, it has drained you of the energy needed to keep moving one foot in front of the other.
Have you friends among your workmates that might be with you? Or is there a more professional relationship that might not work with what you are feeling.
Best advice is to talk it through – right here. Everyone has an emotional bank and you have spent all of your assets in Russia helping others. Now we can help you.
Just sit down and quiet the mind and let our caring seep in.
e –
Listen to your GrandmaJ!
Hi egregious. The world appreciates the light you have brought to new life in Russia. We are sending you lush fields of green to immerse yourself in healing. Let all the worry and doubt go out of you for now and breathe deeply. The lake is always here. You are with us.

watertiger, you’re the snarkiest. Love your ability to bring tears of laughter to my eyes. At last, I get to unburden my unnatural fear of clowns or their twin sister, really bad make-up a la Katherine Harris. She sends me running for cover.

Welcome to the sweltering dog days of summer, when the heat is so unrelenting
73 degrees at 3:15 pm under partly cloudy skies here at 7,000 feet. Low tonight, 55 (kinda warm).
Get out while you can. Changing your T-shirt three times a day is no substitute for actually being able to move around and breathe. It all comes down to breathing, doesn’t it? Makes sense to me.
“Fuck ‘em if they can’t take a joke.”
And joke ‘em if they can’t take a fuck! ;)
egregious, we’re all here for you. Sending you some Light and Universal Energy to amplify your own, everyone is capable of tapping this energy. If you feel you need some protection from some kind of attack here’s some things you can do:
- Envision a ring of head-to-toe mirrors all around your body to bounce those vibes right back to where it’s coming from. Works beautifully.
- Envision a rainbow swirling around the origin, it confuses them and deflects attacks while acting as a healing and purifying agent.
- Envision a bright white light all around your body and let it enter and soak into every cell of your being and fiber. The white light IS from Source and we are all a part of Source. Breathe, breathe, breathe.

Hang in there, egregious — sometimes, a good night’s sleep is just the elixer to soothe a troubled soul . . .

Peterr and Egregious:
In one of my darkest moments, somebody told me what a swell person I was and told me about all the love I was getting and how all that was just waiting for me to take.
The problem for me was that, being depressed, I didn’t think I deserved any of that great love, or that Spirit. Oh, and about that being such a swell person? I knew better, of course, and I was actually a wretch who had everybody fooled, including myself when I wasn’t depressed.
With some rather hard words, my friend got through to me that whether I feel the love, or understand the sacrifice, or even believe in the giver, the love and the gifts were still mine.
I didn’t have to see them or use them or anything else, but that didn’t change the fact that they were there, and that I was abundantly loved. And the day did come again when I did believe that God’s love included me.
So, Eg, you don’t have to understand anything. Just be.
If my thoughts don’t apply to your situation, please ignore. But I couldn’t not share what I learned, if you are in peril.
With much love.

OT …just a little something “tiger” inspired especially for TRex if he’s checking in. A moment of “Video De Gatos”:

Anne–one of the reasons i travel to russia so often is to see the newborns and their anguished parents, it helps keep me from quitting because i experience what they are going through. The tears of desperate parents help me carry on.
sharkbabe–thx for the love/strength, much needed. how are u doing re goats/band/happiness
LizzyL–i do have compassion for myself otherwise it wd be a shorter story.
Peterr–God’s community much needed. we can help each other. i try to help solve more problems than i create inclu on fdl.
GrandmaJ–physically and mentally drained: check. yes i do have terrific colleagues here in russia who are tremendous support.
meta–wow. green is my favorite color.
Oldcoastie, yes i did eat but thats a great question for people w depression or bipolar, have you slept or eaten recently.
thx all for love. will crawl out of it and try to get some sleep. its 115am here in russia. talk w ye tomorrow.
Hey, I like that stuff about the mirrors, the rainbow, and the light. And breathing! Wasn’t I just talking about breathing? Synchronicity! It’s a happenin’ thing. Source rules. Yeah boy.
Really quite refreshing to see this on a political blog. If we all paid heed we wouldn’t even NEED no steenking elections. Wonks hate this shit, though. Too bad.
(If someone posted the above as sarcasm, I will be appropriately mortified, as I am very immoderately sincere.)

Sleep well, egregious – and we’ll see you in the morning. (Whatever “morning” means when we’re doing this whole global village thing at FDL . . .)
Mary, Shez, -ck -, thanks for love and advice. Am gonna try that sleep thing.
Little dog, I do think I deserve love which is pretty good for being bipolar/manic-depressed. Am up to speed on feeling like an impostor, we are all imperfect and trying to hang in there. Even with these gifts of insight sometimes I experience an overwhelming wave of pain. And going home does not necessarily help.
Ok now off to sleep. Will check in tomorrow and am grateful for all the love and support here.
egregious,
don’t want to pile on, but forgot something
a dear spiritually oriented friend once advised me to reflect upon this thought whenever I was feeling at odds -
I am doing exactly what God wants me to be doing at this moment
initially I dismissed her advice as too hokey for a cynic/realist like me
well of course a very dark moment came and I heard her words in my head – and there was a fundamental shift in my outlook – yeah I still felt like total crap, but it was ok to feel like total crap
egy, I do not wish to minimalize your mental health challenges with some abracadabra shit, but I hope you’ll find your own way to be ok about not being ok
I hesitate to speak but these beautiful words are from someone who had a near death experience & had this to say: “I’d tell you to be kind–to yourself and others. Be patient. Give yourself a break. Don’t be so hard on yourself. No fear, no guilt. We as humans deserve nothing but kindness, just for being here, for getting through.”
egregious – glad to hear you’ve eaten… sounds like a little sleeping is in order… seems like sometimes the spiritual answers don’t always come exactly when we need them, but we can get a bit of control over the basics…
we will talk with you tomorrow.
“Alcohol-addled?” Nothing wrong with that. Poor Mel’s problems stem far and away beyond alcohol.
In vino vita.
cbl yea i hear ya. am ok w that. God has a mighty funny sense of humor. somehow this all works for the good.

They changed me forever.

Dear Heart, I’m thinking of you, holding you in my heart, and lifting you up to the Lord.
Don’t know if this will help you, but it helps me a lot when everything seems dark:
I take a break and lie down for a bit, close my eyes and relax all muscles (or as many as possible!) — and then I imagine that the bed I’m lying on is NOT a bed, but rather the open, upturned palm of the Hand of God. Allow yourself to rest in the loving Hand of God. The one who will protect you and console you and keep you safe from all harm.
Every “saint” walking around today knows that the spiritual life is a vascillation between times of consolation and desolation. Know that the moments of desolation are only *apparent* darkness. Every journey through the desert of desolation enables spiritual growth — and a new day of deeper consolation to come. Just trust that you are ALWAYS protected throughout, held close by the One Who loves you unspeakably and infinitely. You — precious you.
Will think of you much today, and in coming days.
Love across the seas, across the ether.
Lieberman Makes Final Push to Fend Off Lamont
Senator Joseph I. Lieberman and his Democratic challenger, Ned Lamont, spent the final Sunday of their Connecticut primary race reaching out to voters at church, while Mr. Lieberman also prepared to deliver a major speech this evening on the war in Iraq.

Mrs K8, that’s a lovely meditation. Thanks.

Good night egregious. (May I call you Greg?:-)
See you in the mmorning.
egregious, green is the color of Healing! (And healers) It is no mistake that it is also the color of the Heart chakra. Of our 7 chakras, the 3 lower ones (root- red, sacral- orange, solar plexus-yellow) connect us to our physical world, the 3 upper ones (throat-blue, third eye- purple, crown- violet) connect us to our spiritual world. The green Heart chakra sits right in the middle connecting the lower and upper chakra energy centers and is known as the Heart Center. They all correspond to the rainbow and a matching musical note. “Clear” your energy centers by your Intent and fill them with white light then envision them filling back up with the 7 colors of the rainbow. Give your green Heart Center extra attention. You will re-energize.
An affirmation for you:
“I provide myself the space to connect with the endless flow of loving energy that sustains me. Thus may I discover the endless flow of love that surrounds me.”
right on, Shez.

The week after the election? I can think of something good that will be coming then…
Juan, I assure you when it comes to healing and helping souls in need, this Native American Medicine Woman doesn’t fool around. I drop everything, including the new thread upstairs, to concentrate on assisting in any way possible, it’s been my life’s work and many past lives work. I’ve gone over 24 hours straight before, doing this until I’m sure they are out of danger. The synchronicity and the love on this thread does not surprise me one bit, we have one hell of a crew around here. :)
As far as my sense of humor goes… want to make Godd/ess laugh? Tell Godd/ess your plans. (heh)
Did not know. Oh, my…
Mehlman scoffed at that appraisal. “I don’t think what Mark Kennedy is doing is anything but being a smart candidate,” he said. “Kennedy is talking about who he is — he’s an independent-minded Republican.”
Any relationship to Larry “Bud” Mehlman?
Thanks for the link Coz.
Did you notice where some Firefighter’s union, group dropped Ned from their event today?
I think that’s just more evidence of Joezoe’s pressure politics and that his press release about dismantling his
vote stealinggotv campaign were total bullshit. One of the many things Joezoe didn’t count on was that his “plan B,” freed up all Democrats to vote against him in the primary or simply not vote at all. According to Joezoe, he’s going to be on the ballot in November.
John,
“Did you notice where some Firefighter’s union, group dropped Ned from their event today?”
That’s weird, check this out!!
“Lamont ran into an enthusiastic following Sunday while campaigning at firefighter’s carnival in Orange. He drew a crowd as he made his way through the snow cone and cotton candy booths.”

Mommybrain –
You know, I meant to ask that very question — where IS our dear zennurse?
I had a hard drive crash and burn recently, and I have to go dig in what was recovered from the mess — somewhere in the recovery files should be zennurse’s email address. I’d better write and inquire how she is.
It took me a while to realize she wasn’t around, since I dip in here so sporadically of late.
Sending loving concern out to our beautiful zennurse — and to you too, dear Mommybrain, and am asking for blessings on ALL firepups who make up this amazing community.
{{{Mrs. K8}}}
I was offline for most of July but it seems I read our beloved zennurse also had puter problems and is trying to replace it or components, something to that effect. I miss her too and hope she makes it back to us soon. I’m thrilled silly that you are back!

Money Quote…
“On Iraq, as you know, I supported the resolution giving the President the authority to use force to take out Saddam Hussein, as did most Senate Democrats. I still believe that was right.”

Lieberman speech, in it’s entirety—-
[Jake gets up and slowly walks towards her.]
Jake:[Falling to his knees before her]
Oh please don’t kill us. Please, please don’t kill us. You know I love ya baby, I wouldn’t leave ya. It wasn’t my fault.
Women: You miserable slug. You think you can talk you’re way out of this? You betrayed me.
Jake: No, I didn’t. Honest. I ran outta gas. I had a flat tire. I didn’t have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn’t come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from outta town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake, a terrible flood, locust’s. It wasn’t my fault!! I swear to God!!
I’m thrilled silly that you are back!
Shez, luv, I missed you too!!! Hugs right back at you! And you should know that my very favoritest people ALL know how to be silly. :-)
Hope all is well with you. Were you offline because of work, or did you have a great vacation?
I hate having just a sporadic presence here these days, but then the fact that I can do MORE physically in my so-called “real” life is a good thing. It’s always good to see you — and all the regular firepups. The many new arrivals are also great to see, as well! Everyone has something unique to offer, and the community seems to thrive even more.
Cozumel @ 151
My favorite: “I am the only Democrat in America to run against George Bush in a national election twice.”
Is that kinda like a 3-way tie for third place?
op99 @ 158
What if he gave a speech and nobody tunes in?
Hi Suzanne!
It’s good to see you, you always have great comments to make. Were you away from here for a bit, too, or is that a mistaken impression?
[When I pop in here erratically, it’s hard to get a correct impression of how everyone’s been doing in real life, and if folks are here continuously.]
little dog –
That pretty much sums up his campaign bus tour, doesn’t it?
Candy Crowley just did on CNN a telephoned in report on the Whiny Joe speech where he expressly disowned any notion of suppressing dissent with his classic “in times of war we criticize the president at our great peril”
such a last-minute speech is a sign of great desperation…

meta @ 164
Candy Crowley, however, may be beyond professional help. Carol Lin asked her whether the voters who favor Ned were voting for him, or just voting against Joe. Crowley’s reply: According to the polls, 60% of Ned’s supporters are just voting against Joe, so that’s what the whole primary is about.
Candy, you ignorant sl*t, let me explain something to you. I’ll speak very, very slowly so you might, just might, understand it. 100 minus 60 equals 40. Forty per cent (that’s 40%, Candy) of those favoring Lamont are voting for Lamont, not against Joe. And Candy, that’s the reason Lamont is leading. That’s a bit more than 20% of the Democrats likely to vote in the primary. That’s the margin of victory. The pure ABL vote would not be enough to win this election.
I know arithmetic wasn’t your strong suit in school, Candy, but do the f*cking math.
So the Grand Plan does include all-out regional conflict. W must be immersed in bread and butter in Crawford:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14206642/
The Grand Plan includes all out regional conflict. And then some. Recall… Bush is not just a wing-nut, he’s a rapture-nut.
op99—I could swear I’ve read that HoJo line somewhere before, but can’t for my life remember where.
He’s not seriously trying to claim that losing a couple of 2004 Democratic presidential primaries was “running against” an incumbent Republican, is he?
I am soooo tired of his dissembling. Let’s hope the good citizens of CT are also.

Lieberman is a fool. So is his mentor, Bush.

Thanks Coz, that’s good news. Maybe we’ll get a Ned update that will explain it.
OT, *ilson, thanks for the link to Joezoe’s “cut and run” speech. The few people in CT who still support him must be really confused now. IMO, Joezoe’s flip/cave on Iraq will absolutely
suck all the oxygen out ofdominate the TM coverage between now and the time the polls close on Tuesday.“I am the only Democrat in America to run against George Bush in a national election twice. I even beat him and Dick Cheney once, if all the votes had been counted.
Shorter Joe:
“Of course when it counted at the time, I wussed-out and claimed that Democrats were disenfranchising enlisted voters.”
It is too bad the “fighting” Joe Lieberman showed up at the eleventh hour of his campaign.
-GSD
Hope you enjoy your new job as FAUX SNOOZE political analyst for the Sean Hannity Show.
So, once again Joe wants it both ways…
The time to act on one’s feeling of “heavy responsibility” was months ago, when Murtha and others who originally supported the war put their political lives on the line in speaking out for a change in policy and a change in course. Joe’s support then might have made a difference, but now it can only be seen as Joe trying to throw himself a life-preserver to keep from losing an election.
The voters of Connecticut can now, finally, be assured that the only life that matters to Joe is his own, and that the lives of American troops serve as mere political fodder for him when necessary to try to resurrect a dying political campaign.
I’d say he should be ashamed, but it is clear that he is well past that now.
Ned DID do the firefighters carnival…there was a mistake in the times…they left out a word wich changed the whole sentence..It should have said Lamont was at the carnival…wonder if they did it on purpose?
BarbaraB @ 169
hmm – reminds of me of the (self-mocking) analyst friend who – when told of truly awful early childhood events elsewhere on the planet – joked*, “well, that’ll put a wing on some therapist’s house”.
on that scale, Candy Crowley’s remedial media literacy training buys a small tropical island paradise.

Ok so you have people who actually complain that a women is breastfeeding in puplic in the US. The US is really starting to see the insane side of thing. It’s breastfeeding for god sake. I never heard of this here in Quebec. But it seem that in certain part of Canada it’s starting to Happen mostly in B.C.
