The odd decision of Joe Lieberman and his incompetent (and soon-to-be- justifiably-unemployed campaign staff) to run against Lowell Weicker, then the blogs, and now me has been a bit of a head scratcher. It’s allowed Ned Lamont to run virtually unopposed. His "unfavorables" are outrageously low at this point in the game, and Lieberman’s politically tin-eared choice of Ned’s money as a key campaign issue probably worked to diffuse the other narrative he was pushing so aggressively: that this is a party purge by angry radical lefty extremists, a story which is near and dear to Joe’s heart. Pointing a finger at Ned’s money and background highlight the fact that he is, in all likelihood, someone with a vested interest in respecting the establishment. It makes him an awfully hard sell as the Che Guevara of Greenwich.
Joe’s strategy now seems to be to heckle and abuse Ned and hopefully throw him off his game. Good luck with that one; Lamont is nothing if not unflappable. All it has done is highlight how rancid and poisonous the DC lobbyist class has become, and provide us with a perfect, succinct poster boy that will serve us for months (if not years) to come as we try to undo the pernicious damage they have inflicted upon the democratic system. Holy Joe can whine all the wants about Ned’s money, but the bottom line is that Ned put up his own money rather than start cutting deals and taking money from the Richard Goodstein’s of the world. Ned’s personal resources gave him the freedom from bondage to the lobbyists who own Lieberman down to his toenails. Joe didn’t raise $10 million for this campaign because people like his shiny white teeth.
At any rate, I got a couple of testy emails from people in Connecticut after I mentioned in the NYT that I didn’t think most people here knew what blogs were. That wasn’t meant as a slight to Connecticut — go anywhere in the country and tell people you’re a "blogger" and 19 out of 20 times you’ll spend the next 15 minutes trying to explain just what that is. Our impact is not on volume eyeballs, it’s on opinion makers who go forth and spread the good word. We can do a lot of things but we can’t deliver elections. We write about the Connecticut race because it is a good story; it is not a story that exists because we write about it.
So I’m always happy to see a bit of local pushback against the boneheaded DC punditocracy canon that this race has everything to do with their own personal obsession — a couple of bloggers — and nothing to do with what is happening in Connecticut, or the country at large for that matter.
Dennis Horgan, in the Courant:
Locally, we are advised that way out lefty blogs have us marching in lock step to our mad political doom, daring to consider whether Joe Lieberman deserves yet another term to do more of what he has done for so long. Obviously it is those lefty blogs – launched from the moon – that have put up the lawn signs in such huge numbers, that have people working the crowds at the supermarket, holding rallies, and tipping the opinion polls so dramatically away from Lieberman and the like.
Surely, Connecticut is too dumb to do things on its own, to have smart and strong feelings on issues.
We are also advised that Connecticut Democrats will be destroying the Democratic party’s chances when, around here, some have the audacity to wonder whether it isn’t exactly Joe Lieberman who has abandoned the party on the principal issue of the age: The killing of people. He has also walked away to the Bush camp on other issues too, but we are told by the sharpies that we are too naïve to understand that. Better to have a leader who is out of touch and arrogantly distant than to dare question it.
The visitors say that there is an unfair and outrageous insurrection and a purge of the sainted Brother Lieberman going on and that that is against the rules, when some I know think that going to the polls in a fair election is pretty much the democratic process that we are being told is a dandy thing for the Hottentots and Iraqi and everyone else but us in the Nutmeg State.
Others send us the message that we silly bumpkins do not have a sense of the big picture and that we should do what we are told which is to never, not once, challenge the actions of the insiders – no matter that those actions are fundamentally in conflict with the values we are amused to count as valuable.
That’s us. We are destroying the party by voting, we are handing the opposition a victory by potentially removing someone who is indistinguishable from that opposition, we are the lunatics because we are standing on our hind two feet about something we happen to believe in, we are the boobs because we will be sending a signal to the country that Democrats are against the war of the Bush-Cheney-Lieberman Axis – when the entire country has come to that message by itself.
We are a bunch of saps here in this small state in the Northeast. Because some here believe in something different than the punditry centers command from afar.
The punditocracy — and the LieberDems — should feel free to continue to roll around in the kind of solipsistic ignorance which completely ignores the fact that the people of Connecticut actually had something to do with this. I’ll just say right here that this kind of institutional blindness is fine by me.
An opponent who can’t keep his eye on the ball is just that much easier to beat.

Liebertoast!
Fitz! Ned! Take back our Country!
Don’t forget the Moveon.org virtual phone bank. I made close to 100 calls earlier and only got through to about 6 or 7 people.
Almost didn’t do it – but now I see how many have to be dialing just to get to a few voters. Will call again after dinner.
http://www.LieberDem.com — enjoy!
Ned instead!
*ilson46201 @ 4
*ilson – you rascal…
Jane!
In my wildest dreams I never thought Lieberman was dumb enough to run against you. Hope you are available for some other key races in the future.
From my remote location it seems that Ned is really coming into his Senatorial posture. Does it seem that way to you too? Also, it seems as if the people of CT are in love with him, all the pictures capture a sense of hope that I have not seen since Clinton.
This is just incredible.
Back from canvassing in Stamford. I’ll be writing up about it once I’m home (currently phonebanking).
Lobbyists for Lieberman! ; )
Citizenz! Voterz!
Joe didn’t raise $10 million for this campaign because people like his shiny white teeth.
for that, they have Sen. PearlyWhites (”D”-MBNA), the sultan of smarm who’s Biden his time.
hey if you guys in CT run into the lieberman lobbyest du jour Richard Goodstein at yet another Lamont event this week-end (and I have no doubt you will) can someone (with a live media feed or a rolling camera) ask him this question for me (and the rest of America)
Vote Joe:
Because…..
You’d have to be a crazy, loony lefty not to love this war!!
Thanks for everything, Jane.
Hottentots?
tater-tots: vote for Pedro
Lieberman as the hapless Napoleon Dynamite (DINO-might?): “Gosh! I’ll do what I want“
Like Markos said yesterday on Hardball: It’s about the voters, stupid!
Go Madrid!
Jane; glad to see you’re keeping the ol’ chin up. Luv ya!
Jane – you’re awesome. The Leiberthugs lash out because they represent the status quo of elitism, special interest, entitlement and ultimately… corruption. They’ve been exposed and now their very existence is threatened.
Much to their dismay, the people of CT have gotten the message. Instead of refuting the message, which they cannot do, the Leiberthugs play the distraction game trying to kill the messenger. A blogger is a messenger, one among so many others who are busy doorbelling, phone banking, attending rallies etc.)
While the thugs waste their time and campaign money playing whack-a-mole with bloggers, the message just keeps popping back up.
They are losers in every sense of the word.
LieberDem blog (lieberdem.blogspot.com) is off the air. It gave up the ghost this morning.
It started out being an Astroturf Lieberman campaign mouthpiece about 3 weeks ago, with none other than Dan Gerstein, Lieberman campaign operative, serving up slime.
They seem to think the writing is on the wall, have a look if yawanna. A good start, don’t you think?
Liebertoast! that’s really good….thanks
The Liebertoast has given up the Lieberghost?
the main discussion in here about that NYTimes article was about how damn good Jane looks — all were astonished at her alleged age. I’ve met her in person — she does it without gobs of makeup (if any!)
Oh! Ned takes the high road and
Joe takes the low road,
And I’ll be in Blogland afore ye;
But me and my true vote
We’re due to meet again
On the bonnie, bonnie banks of Loch Lamont
Wow, what Dennis Horgan said!
Lieberman is a man without principles. People like him don’t have to have principles. Why? Because they’re always right. And righteously justifiable in the actions they take. And if you don’t think that’s the case; just ask them.
“Solipsistic ignorance”? Are we talking about the GOP, particularly Bush, his neo-cons, the Israeli government, and the pseudo-Democrat sycophants?
From The Day, via myleftnutmeg, this morning:
Maybe Joe will be spending the rest of the weekend getting tutored on how to bow out gracefully…?
Keeping an eye on the ball is exactly what RGJoe can’t do. Whether it’s confirming Michael Brown at FEMA or monitoring his own campaign’s terror tactics in Connecticut, RGJoe has got to go.

Nice, Jane, very nice.
It’s amazing how they have managed to intimdate you. (snark)
OT — shoephone, Olbermann reported on Countdown last night about our dirty, dirty cellphones, how they are covered with germs, even more germs than our shoes, and Keith said your NAME when he introduced the story, referencing Maxwell Smart — did you catch the story?
What are these things called blogs?
Is Liebertoast like a funnel cake? Cuz I luv me some funnel cake!
Poor Joe. 18 years in the Senate, and never a challenger to his authori-tay. The moment he’s challenged, he goes up in flames. You’d think Hadassah could have scored him some fire-retardant from those Big Pharma companies she’s in cahoots with…but I guess not.
Snark aside though, I think we really are in the middle of a political revolution. The days of smoke-filled rooms, secrecy, and top-down press release campaigning are over. The blogocentric networked campaign is upon us. It’s the same basic phenomenon afflicting the MSM…top-down narrative creation is being abandoned for networked narrative-spread.
How far the revolution will go is unclear, but all of those hallmarks of the Old Way are in danger of extinction. And they’re all bleating like velociraptors about it.
Jane, you’ll be happy to know that over in Pantload Media (Cathy Seipp’s blog) you’re being excoriated as a racist and a homophobe.
By racist homophobes bien sur
Very nice indeed.

Very stale Bundt Cake.
Is there a linky-poo for the NYT article? I missed it, been busy last few days.
And if I may blogwhore myself, [blogwhoring] I pushed out a long article for TaylorMarsh.com today. Dusting off the reporter chops for her lately has been fun, this is my 3rd piece for Taylor over there. [/blogwhoring]
OT-sorry, but this is good.
Wilkes & contracts & earmarks, oh my!
Brent Wilkes (co-conspirator No. 1 in the Cunningham plea deal) gave an interview to the NYT and is quite chatty. And Jane, your favorite conservative mouthpiece, Barbara Comstock is in there too. She’s a spokesperson for Rep. Jerry Lewis and declares his innocence. *cough, cough*
(That sounds familiar, her working for Lewis, don’t think that’s new.)
The Cunningham investigation continues. :)

I too was thinking of the French bostock!
I’m sure those kids are happy to be making $60 per day to hold signs – what do they know? The sad thing is they aren’t learning all the positives about working for a campaign. Instead they are learning “poor loser” behavior.
This is really the most pathetic campaign I have seen in my 30 some years of watching campaigns. There seems to be no enthusiastic core of true believers for Lieberman, only people the campaign is paying to show up and disrupt events and idiots like Goodstein (who is making Lieberman look worse than he already does).
Is Lieberman planning any rallies planned this weekend? Wouldn’t it be a much better strategy for the campaign to try to focus on the one or two good things about Lieberman’s record and rouse the troops instead of focusing on trying (and not suceeding in)spoiling things for all the thousands of people who have put their hearts and souls into working for Lamont.
I guess we shouldn’t expect any other kind of behavior from Lieberman – after all, isn’t he “Poor Loserman”? Lieberman is getting the kick in the pants he deserves. He somehow forgot that he was hired by us to represent the state of Connecticut – not cozy up to BushCo, Fox and K Street lobbyists.
Well, Joe. What goes around comes around.
All Ned has to do, is stay calm, cool and collected for 3 more days.
Leiberman is coming off as angry, and rabid (hey, i thought we were supposed to angry and rabid–who stole our schtick?)
I love the part where Ned tries to politely shake hands with the leiberyouth.
THAT is how you do it. You don’t ignore the swiftboating like Kerry did, that’s backing down from a fight and makes you look like you have been surgically rendered incabable of reproduction (I’m trying to be delecate here for the pearl clutchers).
Nope, the way you hndle nastyness, is wade ride in there unflinching, and politiely extend you hand in freindship and in acknowledgment of the other guy’s humanity and you talk to him. Honestly, forthrightly, and with empathy.
Ned “gets” it.
As with everthing in life, there is a right way and a wrong way to “turn the other cheek”. One seeks to protect self, –the failed Kerry caimpagn version, and the other has an intellectual honesty and a humble kind of courage–the Ned way.
I’ve learned a lot watching this campaign.
I heard on a news show yesterday that the only reason Hillary finally showed some spine with Rumsfeld at that hearing is because everytime she looked at him she saw the ghost of Ned hovering behind him.
Maybe it was really the ghost of Jane.
(and Hillary never looks that good in the NYT.)
speaking of juvenile and petulant
from the Times article
Go Ned!
Excellent comment dab, you strike right at the heart of what is frustrating the Lieberman campaign – a lack of true believers. The Clinton appearance was designed to bring those folks to Lieberman as if standing next to someone who draws true believers will transfer onto him magically.
When it didn’t work he was stunned and turned to his lobbyist friends for standins. His real true believers aren’t CT voters at all, its those on K Street who believe he will do whatever they want him to do for the price of a campaign contribution.
OT – pardon me for jumping in w/o reading all the comments… i just got back from canvassing and am back in the meriden office now trying to cool off….
is there a meetup scheduled for today? thanks!

Part of taking back our democracy from these cretins will be getting those lobbyists out of the whole process. Then getting candidates into office who will pass corporate accountability into law, to limit the intrusiveness of corporations in the process. And then shaking the whole thing down to get the wacky creationists out of the civil service, where BushCo has been planting them.
The real question is how many current Dem officeholders will go with the program, and how many we will have to lieberman out of the way.

I went to an event last week where Clinton spoke. His “cutesy” story:
He related how he and Hillary share the morning papers at breakfast, and that he’s always proud of himself when he spots a great little tidbit before she does. Maybe, from now on, they’ll be feverishly working their laptops, from opposite ends of the breakfast table, searching for the best blog entries.
Who knows, they might actually learn stuff!
It would surprise me if Lieberman’s campaign strategy isn’t from the DC consultant playbook on how not to run. They’ve forced their model of failure on almost every Democratic campaign for over a decade, putting Democrats into a semi-permanent minority.
Considering what a ruling class insider Joe Lieberman is, why wouldn’t he believe in the bilge his buddies serve, claiming it’s wine? If it is a national consultancy campaign, we are seeing what a waste it is to give money to these swindlers.
“The real question is how many current Dem officeholders will go with the program, and how many we will have to lieberman out of the way”
Kurt – I think this is the birth of a new verb – “to lieberman” someone.
Definition: to throw out of office a politician who becomes arrogant and disconnected from his/her constituents and the core values/principles of the Democratic party. Liebermanned politicians tend to be more concerned with continuing the gravy train and speaking circuit than actually representing the voters of his/her state.
Wonder how many Dem politicians will finally understand that we want an opposition party, not appeasers?

NED LAMONT- Starts the Revolution
Activists like JANE HAMSHER with
their passion make the dream possible.
We have seen the Berlin Wall fall, we have seen the revolutions from Poland, Russia to Czechoslovakia root out communist tyranny and free people to enjoy their God given rights in this short life. Just recently we had “orange revolution” in Ukraine and their was non stop TV coverage in US networks. But when the seeds of this revolution are being planted next door, the American TV networks controlled by vested interests, have choosen to turn a blind eye. WE NEED A NAME FOR THIS REVOLUTION.
Folk!! no matter how many dirty tricks Lieberman may copy from the neocon bible, the victory of Ned Lamont is almost certain. All the polls that perdict Liberman winning a three way race will change after this primary victory. The dynamics of the public perception will immediately change
in favour of NED. In fact it is very possible that Lieberman may not run at all. Unless something dramatic happens, Ned Lamont will be the next Senator from CT.
But we must not listen to the “Beltway experts” who will tell you to change the message, be moderate to appeal to the larger audiance. You will see these TV Pundits telling us that the the end of Democratic party has come, the doom and gloom scenario of the party taken over by lunatic left wing fringe, blah..blah…blah. Please ignore them. Stay on the message of truth and justice and peace and you will be blessed and ultimately win.
In fact Ned Lamont’s victory has the potential to bring an earthquake in Democratic Party and which is controlled by corrupt DLC bosses who need to be thrown out. Let the power come in the hands of the real Americans for the betterment of humanity.
On one side we have Liberman’s selfishness corruption and deceit and on the otherside we have the selflessness and goodness of thousands of volunteers who have worked tirelessly and who want to serve the community, the country and the world with dedication and bring real change for the good.
JANE HAMSHER is a great example to emulate for sacrifice and idealism and offcourse excitement and unmatched energy. She came all the way from other side of the country spending her own time and money becoming a volunteer to creat a real buzz about this race. This is the example of a true patriot and real American who wants to do what is right and bring change in this rotten system.
I just came to know about her about two weeks ago sitting here in Texas and saw her photo in NYT article today. I hope she will remain an activist and a leader. I wish and hope I will someday personally meet this beautiful soul and a wonderful human being.
DailyKos has come up blank for me a few times in the last few days. I can get to it at the moment.

Well, since flufferwink led me over there, Sirota’s diary on Kos pretty much nails the Leiberthugs.
Until we accomplish serious campaign finance reform, our democracy is going to stay busted. We will be governed by people like Lieberputz, who are nothing more than wholly owned subsidiaries of corporate America.
Every dirty trick that Joe’s friends can pull will be pulled from now through election day. I also believe it will be much closer than the polls are showing. These firmly entrenched power brokers are never, ever going to leave willingly.
Count me among the very worried. But I keep my self sane by saying that every time we have a ‘grassroots’ candidate they get closer. And Closer to winning. Until a month ago everyone believed Lamont was going to lose but that the challenge to Joe was a big issue. Make him talk about issues.
But can Connecticut voters see all the truth of the situation without all the fuzzy gauze surrounding the myth of Joe? They, CT voters, are doing a great job so far. Time will tell.
It’s Che Guevara! What kind of radical far left lefy leftist are you!?!

TeddySanFran @ 83
Rasmussen is a different polling outfit and uses different methodology than other polls. It frequently shows stronger results for Republicans than do other polls, but beyond that, it’s all in the questions that were asked, how they were asked, how data is aggregated, and how the poll defines “likely” voters. If you’d like a quick look at a very good site explaining the variations, I like this one: http://www.mysterypollster.com/main/
Beyond that, ditto what Teddy said.
latest NYTimes Ned story
I really wish I could do more to help on the ground in Connecticut…but I very deeply appreciate what all of you guys are doing this weekend. It’s impossible to fully appreciate what is happening this weekend. Sending Lieberman into retirement will usher in the possibility of an America where the interests of our citizens will come before the interests of the special interest groups in Washington.
*ilson gets an A plus.
Because I said so.
I’m confused, how come my earlier comment at 4:05 got taken down? Do you all censor comments like Wapo? I didn’t think asking why the great focus on Lamont was a big deal or posing the scenario with an “I” next to Lieberman’s name in the Nov election. Surprised to say the least. Maybe you all covered that in depth and I missed it.
go back for the last several months here and read more than a few posts on the subject. It has been discussed in great depth here.
Yes, some comments do get deleted here. There are plenty of cesspools elsewhere to swim in …
Hello from CT
T Rex does indeed exist. And I did get to meet Ned, which was really nice.
While canvassing today, an undecided voter today said he was leaning towards Ned because of the incident at Teds. He seemed genuinely disgusted.
In the section that I canvassed, a lot of undecided voters. Please, if can do virtual phone banking, please do.
And Danny Glover was here today to campaign with Maxine Waters and Ned.
I would like a coutesy email from the mod as to why my little ‘punaise’ was striken out. Thankyou & WTF?
your punaiserie was so abstruse that it seemed hostile and trollish. You are not a regular poster so in an excess of caution, I trashed it. We are under great attack from the winger blogostomy and are developing trigger-fingers …
am suddenly stricken with the horrible realization that the gratuitous word play that I often aid and abet may cause you mods a lot of extra work.
punaise — court jesters are often irksome but tolerated because they are occasionally amusing…
I appreciate the proper moderation of comments.
“occasionally”? sigh…..
I appreciate the use of the word “abstruse”

Ouch!solipsistic ignorance! Jeez I might even vote for Lamont if I could figure that one out!

It’s been several hours since this comment was posted, and I can’t find any reports online confirming the poll, so for now, I’m simply guessing and hoping that either John L. or the radio report he heard got it wrong. If this is true, however, this is definitely bad news for Lamont, since the last Rasmussen poll had him leading Joementum by ten points.
“Okay, I can’t keep up with who all is siding with whom, but..
On Sunday, Sen. Max Cleland, D-Ga., and Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, D-D.C., will be among the supporters traveling throughout Connecticut with Lieberman. AP
Those are two names I would’ve expected to see in the Lamont camp. “
*************
That is really disheartening news. I like Holmes-Norton AND Cleland. My view of them has changed somewhat ….
Max Cleland was always a DLC Blue Dog Democrat. Ms. Norton disappoints me …
Heard on Air America that Bill Clinton is featuring Ned’s positive quotes about him on his website (where he’s advertising to speak for $100,000.00 or more a pop).
Wow! What a guy. Goes to Connecticut to hug Lieberman and then uses Lamont’s popularity to make big bucks.
Why am I not surprised?
Shell @ 156
I also like both of them, but I only agree with you to a point.
No doubt there are a whole lot of past favors being called in right now. Realistically, how much difference will either one make compared to the Big Dog? Someone like Murtha or Feingold (heaven forbid) would be a completely different story, but I can’t see these folks creating Joementum.
I’m definitely putting their actions in my memory bank, but I’m going to withhold judgment until we see if they are equally supportive of Ned if/when he’s the primary winner. Anyone who helps Joe out now and doesn’t provide equal help to Ned as a primary winner will earn large amounts of well-deserved disdain.
So, I think the difference between moderation and censorship is a certainly a fine line. There was nothing in my original post to receive a comment like go swim in cesspool. I used to run an online community and a software company that developed tools for moderation of bulletin boards and chat. Your broad brush strokes are just as dangerous to democracy and free speech as those you are trying to fight. I really appalled that you would take such measures on what was a genuine and sincere post and one that deserved a bit more than a scripted troll response. I’ve posted here before, not many times, but I’ve been an ardent reader and have turned people to this site on many many occasions. Sorry my questions offended you and somehow were so diversive as to require censorship. All is good comrade.
It is ironic how this site and others railed against others for just this type of action. Shame.
when you blithely drop in here and wonder why all the interest in the CT Senatorial race, one wonders about your sincerity concerning progressive issues on the Information Superhighway …
this place is so attacked by freepers and their ilk that I take no admonitions of “shame” for zealous moderation for an originally clueless-seeming comment …
Sorry I meant subversive, but typing fast. Got a newborn in the house. YAY!
Goodnight to all. Good luck in your battle. As always the writing is top notch, just questioning the constant focus. But there are other sites on the internets.
Blithe is fair. Not a regular contributor. I’ve read plenty of the Lamont stuff. It just struck me in a conversation with my wife and listening to progressive radio, why this was the big cause d’celebre these days. Not attacking just asking. I just hope you aren’t shutting down honest discourse, thats what is needed these days. Not wanting to be a bonehead at all, obviously.
@156
Eleanor Holmes Norton and Joe Lieberman go back a very long way. Ellie was in the first Yale Law School class to accept women, and was the first African Amerian woman at the law school. Joe was one of her best friends and part of her class. Ellie was a principle organizer of the 63 March on Washington, and it was through her that Joe got involved in Civil Rights and all. Much as one would wish some public figures would not endorse and support, there are some things very old friends do for each other out of love, affection and friendship. John Lewis’s appearance a few weeks ago is of the same nature. It isn’t about politics, it is about having been part of something huge in younger days and feeling very loyal to those who were in it with you. But none of that, sadly, is relevant to today’s politics.
I thought Holy Joe was not allowed to do
anything but pray on Saturday.
Orthodox Jews are out-of-circulation for praying from sundown Friday to sundown Saturday.
Help me here — what’s the correct word for this time period?
is it Sabbath?
I believe it’s called Shabbat, not that I knew,
just googled it. I remember Joe being
unavailable on Saturdays in the past so I was
suprised to see he was out campaigning today.
Hypocristy knows no bounds. Maybe others were
campaigning in his behalf not Joe personally,
don’t know for sure. I just remember thinking
this morning, Joe lost today regarding campaign
days left.

Hmmm. My business partner is Jewish and the head (President) of his temple. He thinks Orthodox Jews are lunatic fringe. JoeMo is Orthodox???
Shabbos starts at sundown on Friday and extends until sundown on Saturday. That specific time depends on where you live, and most Orthodox I know have calendars that tell them what that time is. My Orthodox friend refers to this as “candle-lighting” time – when the candles are lit for the Shabbos meal. All the cooking for that meal, and for the remaining meals in this period are cooked prior to Shabbos – there is no cooking during this time.
Shabbos is about more than praying, although synagogue is a part it. There is no “work” done on the Sabbath – and that includes things like turning lights on and off, as well as pushing a stroller – and one does not ride in any motorized transportation. There are exceptions for things like health – clearly one could go to the hospital in an ambulance. Some Orthodox have Gentile friends who will come over and turn lights on and off for them, which apparently is okay.
My Orthodox friends tell me that Shabbos is meant to be a time for reflection, for family and for being in the moment, free from the distractions of every day life.
Which doesn’t sound so bad, does it?
Sir Edward Lewis, the British music magnate, was Orthodox — he claimed observing the Sabbath lengthened his lifespan — he was involved in hectic business deals for 6 days a week but for one day, he could slow down and recuperate and reflect…
That’s truly amusing. If Joe’s strategy has really become to heckle Ned until he’s thrown off his game, they are way out of touch.
This guy spends his days teaching in an inner city high school – and they think it’ll be easy to get a rise out of him? He’s been tempered by the best experts in the business.
i think that triumphalism, while understandable, is premature. stow it til weds.
or don’t you remember what it felt like in nov. 2004, with all the surveys tracking for kerry, including the exit polls, right up until ohio went red?
you want to feel as let down as the day after election day 2004? didn’t think so. if not, do the work. GOTV.
A very good article on Lamont, his modesty and good use of his wealth.
