I have butterflies in my stomach. I’m really excited and scared at the same time.
This time next week I’m either going to have the most kick-ass party Spin or a really depressing/ apocalyptic one. As for this week, The Spin I’m In is dedicated to and inspired by all of the FDL community members who are in or on their way to Connecticut to join Jane and TRex for the big showdown on Tuesday: M/Valley Girl, Rev Deb, wxyz, milleneryman, Karen Allen, siun, scarecrow, urban Pirate, Eric T. I know I’ve missed some of you rebel rousers so this goes for you too!
Let’s send some energizing vibes out to all of the Lamont workers and to the voters of Connecticut through music. Let them know the songs that fuel your fire and really get you going in the comments section. Music is a way powerful mojo!

DONITA!
NED!
Joe Toast!
I love these posts. Thank you so much.
How about “Kick Start my Heart” by Motley Crue? Always pumps me up.
Margins are busted for me, but will check back later. I did hit F5 which sometimes helps but notthis time.
I love RISE so much! Thank you again and again, Donita! –
AND FiniFiniQUOTE!!
Hoooray Donita!
Thanks for calling attention to all the great FDL’ers going to CT to help Ned.
Again, a big fuzzy thanks to my main man FINIFINITO for the layout and linkage! Lookin’ good, lookin’ good
DONITA !
and
How about Heaven 17’s Facist Groove Thing:
Woot Donita!
Happy Friday all :)
I’ve been listening to Towa Tei a lot this week. Check out the probably only cool thing Kylie Minogue has ever done hehe.
Donita Sparks @ 8
If nothing else I AM both big and fuzzy, thanks for the shout out, you rock! People in LA need to go see Donita rock you out of your socks next gig she’s playing there. When’s the next chance they get to see your band?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nlgvay1cAhE
Hey, FFQ/T Did your columns (songs on left, cover images on right) on the post bust the margins?
PS, Dude, I am worried about you — did you get some sleep?
Your friend,
Imm
immanentize @ 14
If that is busting margins I’ll go in and fix it.
I’m ok, I got some sleep sort of. Thanks for asking. Last night was a bad head night is all.
From the National Review …
Sen. Joe on Lamont’s Stock
[Stephen Spruiell 08/04 12:55 PM]
I just asked Joe Lieberman about the Washington Times report today that Ned Lamont owns tens of thousands of dollars of Wal-Mart stock, even though Lamont spoke very critically of Wal-Mart at a rally earlier this week.
Lieberman responded: “I don’t know that to be a fact, but it doesn’t surprise me. He’s criticized my votes on energy legislation, but he owns stock in oil companies. He criticizes the war but he owns Halliburton stock. So while I didn’t know that, it doesn’t surprise me.”
Lamont’s supporters were quick to criticize Lieberman when they thought he had taken a $1,000 contribution from Wal-Mart’s PAC (a charge that turned out to be false). But don’t expect to see them turn on their candidate, even after he has been exposed as both a financial supporter and a financial beneficiary of a company that they see as an emblem of corporate evil.
Ya know, that is Holy Joe’s whole problem right there. Who is he talking to and getting support from? The neo-con, Bush cheerleading, wingnuts at the National Review. Hey Joe, how about talking to some democrats? The contempt Joe has for his own supposed party is amazing.
immanentize@10
oooh, good one. When my band L7 would be near the Mexican border in Arizona on the way to LA. we would get stopped by border patrol looking for food items for unwanted agricultural pests. We would always sing “brothers sisters we don’t need no facist fruit cops” when we would be pulling away in the van. Haven’t thought of that one in a long time
How about Fight Song, by Marilyn Manson?
Or how about War by OutKast?
Morrissey is not really “rockin”, but he’s got one for some of those rowdy youth who might not have fully thought about their life choices -

I fixed the busted margin culprit, refresh your windows and all will be well.
I love Heaven 17! Awesome song!

heh heh
Donita — another great mix! Awesome tunes for my Friday listening. Thanks heaps…
My spin?
Been watching through Homicide: Life on the Streets, and their music selections for the series is top notch…the songs in the shows have gotten my groove on a bunch this week.
Buena – Morphine
I Alone – Live
The Live song got me to pull out Throwing Copper and give it a spin, and I bring you the lyrics to White, Discussion:
Fini FiniQuote@12
I’ll be playing a live set on KXLU, a college radio station in LA, on Aug. 10th. We also have a show at the Scene in beautiful downtown Glendale, CA. on Aug. 12th. oops, I guess I should have posted that, it’s just that this election is a BIT distracting.
Live is amazing, heard them on Stern a few months ago. Throwing Copper is one of my favs, a great song in every track.
And what the hell kind of progressives can get motivated politically without Rage Against the Machine or System of a Down?
Man, what century are people living in not to know that?
From Testify (RATM):
People people… the revolution will not be ‘podcasted!
The Spin I’m in – Voting Booth Edition
cosign on Fight the Power – Public Enemy… yes, yes, the Isleys, but Chuck D’s got that don’t-fuck-with-me edge. “most of my heroes don’t appear on no stamp.”
(for god’s sake) Give more power to the People – Chi-Lites. Swirling guitar intro. Great bass vocals.
You’re the Man – Marvin Gaye… possibly the best election track ever written. “if you’ve got a master plan/got to vote for yoooouu/cuz, you’re the man”
Cult of Personality – Living Colour. Vernon Reid kills.
Power to the People – Curtis Mayfield.
and one for Loserman:
Your Good Thing (is about to end) – Mable John. “Getting myself back together/is gonna be a big problem I know” ha. sucka.
Donita Sparks @ 24
It will be a stone groove, my man. You are the most righteous…oh what the hell, does that station have a streaming audio link for the Toobz?
Oops. Hit Submit not Preview. Here’s some System of a Down:
Boom!

EXCELLENT!!! Fixed.
DO-NI-TA!! Hey sparky, thanks for getting us juiced up for the Big Accountability Moment brought to you by non other than we dee peeple.
I don’ know, but for some reason I’m feeling kind of mellow and keep heading back to Gil Scott Heron:
http://www.bikesummer.org/1999…..Lyrics.htm
I used to play his stuff all the time when it first came out.
right on donita! i’m on pins & needles, waiting for the outcome of the Lamont vs. Lieberman fight! we need to get rid of these fake democrats!!!
absolutely LOVED the deee-lite track!!
Well, I’ve had this mac since February, and Donita just made me open up my iTunes account, etc. This is a fun new dimension to computing!
( very late adopter trying to keep up with all y’all! )
PS
{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{ CHRISTY }}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}
“Get Up, Stand Up”, Bob Marley. It came on the radio a couple of weeks ago, and I was reminded of what a perfect campaigning song it is.
“One (Hu)man One Vote” by Johnny Clegg and Savuka is another.
And of course, the Clash’s “Clampdown” in honor of the LieberShirts. *g*
Kurt@11
That was wild and totally up my alley. I wish I had Kylie’s stylist.
right on Donita! fantastic Spin. *fingers crossed*
TeddySanFran @ 33
Right on Teddy! Welcome to the 21st century way of getting your groove on!
OK, another one , then it’s back to work for a little….
SAM COOK, Change Gonna Come:

Christy Hardin Smith@22
Thanks Christy! You are a goddess and a true patriot. Go Ned Go!
pow wow @ 39
What sort of problem did you have?
Maybe someone needs to send some soothing, relaxing music to HoJo. A column in the Boston Globe describes him on his bus tour as “languid and unfocused.” http://www.boston.com/news/glo…..ing_spiel/
Sounds to me like he’s way overmedicated. Seriously, Senator, that shit is not good for you. Listen to some nice John Tesh instead.
“People Have The Power” by Patti Smith, from about 1986.
Interesting. Looks like my use of Opera as a browser was one of the reasons (or the reason) for my former state of perpetual moderation.
I just posted using Internet Explorer temporarily, because ever since Jamie made his latest edits, when I tried to post a comment an any thread, it resulted in a refresh of the header of the page and the left sidebar and a big blank space everywhere else, with no comment thread visible and no comment posted. [I also never had a Preview button visible via the Opera browser — I see it now though.] THANKS to mommybrain @ #110 a couple of threads ago for giving me the idea of trying a different browser.
I wanted to alert Wilson and everyone else to information about the nominating petition signature process. [Town clerks have two weeks to certify AFTER they receive the petitions — which don’t have to be submitted to them until August 9th. So it could take a while (up to two weeks after 8/9) to find out if the 7,500 mark of certified signatures is reached.] I’ll try to find the citation where I read that to post here, FYI.
meta@31
good one! great lyrics
OK, my love letter to Donita:
Dear Donita,
Thank you. What makes “The Spin I’m In” so great is that it allows people (OK, me) to express themselves through beloved songs. We all think this way — especially when we were young and happy (or happier). By putting these posts up, you both recognize that inner truth and you facilitate it in others. That is why I think you are great!
Love,
Imm.
pow wow @ 44
Opera users on this site have been reporting similar bugs for weeks. Something in Wordpress hates Opera, you may keep this in mind when visitng any Wordpress based blogs. Why not get Firefox?
Janer — This one’s over — go on to the nxt. one! Joe is toast mold. Second verse, same as as the first — the traditional campaign strategists, consultants, etc. can’t keep up or compete w/ the unpaid blogo’s repeater fact checks and /or “lie-detectors”– too fast, too powerful, too smart, too many readers willing to donate $ in a hurry — real FIREpower.
You got ‘em now, let’s get our our men and women back form IRAQ! Thanks.

OT, and apologies to the Mixmistress, there… fine tunez, fer sure… but has anyone in the threads below mentioned this harrowing little tidbit, about yesterday’s Brownshirt Riot?
http://mydd.com/story/2006/8/4/11191/05211
This needs to go to the Hartford Courant and Colin McEnroe and any CT TV station that isn’t busy doing weight loss tips and missing white women, today!
I’m listening to Air America Al Franken
just mentioned Ned Lamont is ahead in
the polls by 10 points. Lieberman will lose
and then he will run as an independent.
The Fake democrat has no shame!!
Actually, to be more precise in case it helps — I was still able to post after Jamie made the bulk of his new edits, because I commented on the [New] feature in the open thread he had about the changes. Jamie then made a couple more edits, and ever since then I haven’t been able to get through to thank him (!) for the new red asterisks, which was one of the final changes he made.
Thanks, Fini Finiquote #47. I’ll have to do that if Opera won’t work here, because I don’t want to use IE for long.
LOVE LOVE Devo!!! Last time I saw them in concert was something like ‘91 in LA. Which makes me feel so old.
A song that comes to mind for the Ricky house float is Talking Heads, “Burning Down the House.”
JBK @ 48
WAY! No more stale regurgitated lip-reading say-nothing faxing blowharding slipping sliding whoring fogging slacker politics a-wonking. We got your Operation Freedom Is on the March right here.
Hey meta, You got an opinion you’d like to share?
:~)
TeddySanFran @ 33
I would definitely bookmark this comment for post August 8 review. A long shot, but I would invite consideration of packaging it to iTunes/mac as a way to secure advertising revenue.
Given FDL’s traffic, iTunes/mac might have some ideas as to how to proceed. They might also be very interested in what percentage of FDL’ers connect through a mac or have access to iTunes. I’m offering this at a very high level. I realize there are other concerns. Donita’s industry knowledge is probably very helpful in qualifying this brain storm’s potential value.
OT – Sorry Donita.

A Utah lawmaker wants abortions here to be instantly banned should the U.S. Supreme Court overturn Roe v. Wade.
State Rep. Paul Ray, R-Clearfield, is anticipating a challenge in the Supreme Court to a South Dakota measure that would outlaw nearly all abortions. South Dakota voters will decide this fall whether to uphold the legislation approved this year.
[snip]
The Utah Legislature meets for 45 days beginning in January. Ray said he doesn’t want the Legislature to have to wait several months to ban abortions if Roe v. Wade is overturned.
“If we have to wait until the next legislative session, we’re going to have an onslaught, a rush of abortions to go in and beat the deadline. This way, it’s automatic. You don’t have a window where there’s a whole extra bunch of abortions,” Ray said.
Unfucking believable.
Turnout is all.

No worries! That’s one burger-eatin’, pill pushin’ scumbag
Thanks fini finiquote, I hope it leads somewhere profitable, you all deserve to be well compensated for your fine work here.
Found this weird little video on YouTube when searching for Meg Lee Chin. Song is by Meg, video is by someone else completely, no idea who…and is a little graphic for the squeamish hehe).
Oh Meg, please release another cd!
Joe, languid? In his dreams.
Wow, John Casper, does this mean I get to be in an iTunes ad? Maybe I’ll get to meet that cute boy who plays Mac in the “Hi, I’m a Mac” ads.
It was kind of embarassing to admit my luddite-ness, considering the horsepower I invested in. I blame FDL for my not having non-blog time to explore this awesome machine’s capabilities. You are absolutely correct, though, John — Donita got me to crack open my iTunes.
Please don’t quote the Donita got me to crack part of that sentence out of context!
An OT suggestion to a few of you. Text typed in the comments box “wraps” – you don’t need to “enter” at the end of each line.
OT
Ned will be on Randi Rhodes in about half an hour

I agree completely. Then, sadly, they became full of themselves (if not other stuff).
John Casper @ 81
I broke this!!!!! Me?
Naw — all I did was read a LA times article and saw this paragraph about a good friend of Joe’s named Goodstein who took Lamont’s effort to take a Senate seat that belongs to the people of Connecticut away from his good friend Holy Joe “very personally” and just wondered what google would turn up. Took about 5 minutes.
timewarp -
I gave a big (silent) shout-out to you earlier (did you hear it?)… you were all over this story big time. Yea, timewarp!
Jenny from the Blog @ 89
Yeah! In fact, let’s do it again!
Lisa Dawn,
If you’re on line there’s an e-mail coming your way. I’ve been away from the laptop for a few hours and just got in.
Let’s do the timewarp again! :)

Thanks you guys, that made my day!
OfT: timewarp, you were first at FDL, and you were damn close to being first overall. aldon appears to have beaten you by a smidgen.
Professional Lobbyist Thuggery
by aldon, Fri Aug 04, 2006 at 10:11:21 AM EST
The Meriden, CT paper has this article about the confrontation in Meriden CT yesterday. They say,
” “It was supposed to be a laid-back event and (they) ruined it.” “We’re just using our right. We’re just exercising our rights to enjoy a burger,” said Lieberman supporter Alex Hoffman of Boston. Supporters of each candidate debated outside on the sidewalk while many Lieberman supporters continued to badger Lamont, who acknowledged most questions. Richard Goodstein, one of the most vocal Lieberman supporters, repeatedly shouted, “Are you a Bill Clinton Democrat or an Al Sharpton Democrat?” Lamont calmly said he supported both.
So, let’s see what we can find out about Richard Goodstein. I assume this picture on Flickr is of Richard Goodstein. With a little searching, I find this article about Richard. The picture sure looks the same.
So, who is Richard Goodstein? He is a Washington lobbyist. Political Money Line reveals that he contributed to Lieberman’s campaign in 2004, Kerry’s campaign and to Hillary’s PAC.
Well, Mr. Lamont is already taking on the Washington Lobbyists, and he needs all your help. Please, come to Connecticut to stand up against corporate lobbyists who are threatening our democracy.“
timewarp, do not underestimate, what you did. You independently verified aldon’s scoop and Ned’s campaign may have found it initially via your comment at FDL (if they have even discovered it now). FDL comment threads provide an invaluable feedback loop for Jane, Christy, and all their other posters. I think this is why Jane invested in the new comment software. She and Christy recognize what an asset quality comments and links can be to FDL.
13 points behind in the polls will make your staff surly and rude.
Does anyone here think this last-minute physical harangue of Ned and his followers will hamper his on-the-streets campaigning style in these last few critical days? This is what the Lieberfolk want – to intimidate and derail Ned’s free-stylin’ walkabouts and open events…
Jenny from the Blog @ 99
These tactics are blowing back on Lieberman as we speak, no I do not think they will hamper Ned. They will only embolden him to keep doing what he’s doing.
Obnoxious.
Thanks for the link, *ilson.
Speaking truth to power, our Ned is !
Sorry Donita for the OT
Lieberloser is on Ed Schultz whining right now. He said there was no schedule for his bus, they’re touring the state making impromptu stops. Lamont’s candidacy is all about making a statement – we don’t like GWB. That’s all it is.
His whine is worse than my 7year old’s.
“The polls are based on an unfair assessment of my service.”
ES: On the basis of yesterday’s senate testimony… do you still stand firm on not pulling out of Iraq?
JL: Yes…uh, no.
LOSER!
I’ve been lurking at this blog for, er… six months (heh) and I’m not a concern troll. Really. :)
Jenny from the Blog @ 99
Nope. They still don’t get the blogs. Every nasty little thing they do gets video’d, photo’d and written up in real time, and then the MSN picks it up and they are no longer in control of a damn thing.
Not at all like the old days of press releases!
Okay, y’all. I feel better (putting concerns to rest now).
Jenny from the Blog @ 104
I know you’ve been around here for a while, you’re cool. Text does not carry conversational tone very well, I didn’t mean to come across as chastising you if I did.
mbrain, never heard that seven-year old little brain whine, he’s not even in RGJoe’s class!

Full disclosure: I’ve only been here for 6 weeks and never lurked. I just jumped in like the impulsive type I am!
timewarp at 105 — that is the key. The audience is not just listening (THX) –
It’s talkin’ back, BABY!!

D’oh! Oy vey. Why so late coming to the lake? Were you hanging out with some bad influences?
Stephen Parrish, CPA @ 112
You know, yesterday I was speculating that the timing of Hillary’s call for Rummy to resign was interesting, just less than a week before the election, but never in my wildest dreams did I imagine she was setting the stage for Joe’s “moderate” disagreement.
Guess he isn’t angling for the Def Sec job anymore.
And I wonder how that will play with all of his rethug endorsers.

OH RON! Nice choice! I had to go look for it and found it, twice.
Here’s the Video
Here’s a Live Performance
PEOPLE HAVE THE POWER!!!
Jacqrat @ 116
Jaqrat — thank you for finding that !!! That is a real favorite. In fact, anything by Patti is great and more so if it is LIVE. Horses changed my life back in 73. Was never the same kind of girl after that, I can tell ya!
Last minute desperation tactics like Liebemans call for Rummys going just never work — it’s too late to have an effect. If he were caught in bed on Friday night with a gay Rabbi, it might drive down his vote a tad, but not much. Minds are made up.
It’s too late for anything except GOTV …
From one spin to another, what a day. This Spin is much more to my liking. What a nice surprise to see my name included in the list of rebel rousers!
Done peacefuly, with purspose and passion, rebel rousing can be quite fun and effective.
Wehull, Ah’ve been reeeding thes blogg fer abot 2 beers now, an Ah want to expresh ma conthern!

hee. Heaven forfend! I can pretty much tell you the day and hour I came here. It was the moment the Rove indictment was squashed. I was desperate for some good conversation and analysis and Praise Jeebus, I found myself at FDL. :)
Teddy – geez I am so far behind you all today.
I’m glad you like the white space…it’s so…soothing…like white noise…maybe you could figure out how to type a comment in such a way that the white space creates an image…*g*
Seriously – I think a couple people are hitting “enter” when they come to the end of the line, and that’s why some of the comments are posting in that box-y format.
Mommybrain@103
Don’t worry about it, I’m listening too
People Have The Power!!!
Now this is off topic, but so what, the threads moving fast today.
MacHeath – It is deep seated, not deep seeded.
Krugman’s argument doesn’t make any sense.
He is basically saying we (i.e. dems) have to keep the politicians who have failed us cause otherwise the repugs will keep winning.
That advice is the same as throwing good money after bad; That it is better to have a quisling wearing a scarlet d than a real D. How does that do democrats any good? Oh look, we elected a democratic candidate, now he can bend over. Yeah!
And what of Krugman’s other points? The dichotomy he seeks to establish between the person and the party is a false one. Politics is about ideas and policies, not people. Lieberman is running, at the moment, for the Democratic nomination, not the Joe Lieberman party nomination. The party label is, and has always been, a “brand” representing ideas and policies and positions independent of the people who run under its label. The candidate represents the democratic brand, not the other way around. Personal beliefs aren’t unimportant, but at least there is an expectation that those personal beliefs comport with the Brand’s beliefs. Otherwise, what’s the point?
Lieberman a “centrist”: If walking lock step with TEAM LOSER is democratic centrism than we can’t get rid of Joe soon enough. Unless Krugman wants to argue that TEAM LOSER policies are somehow “centrist.” This goes to a larger point – the idea that somehow there is a division in the democratic party between the ALLEGED “sane,” so called “centrists,” and those of us who inhabit the blogosphere and the “netroots” activists. That is a false dichotomy, and if anything fits into playing into repug hands it is the idea that the blogosphere and the netroots represent the fringe, and that there is some sort of rift in the democratic party. That’s the lie. And that is a lie that Joe created. Whether it apes repug themes doesn’t matter, Joe had no choice but to argue that it is a fringe element who is against him b/c otherwise he would have no place in the party. But the numbers don’t lie, and if the “centrists” weren’t against Joe he wouldn’t be about to lose. So, just like with the war, either a majority of Americans who want us out of Iraq are leftwing moonbats, or the majority of CT dems are left wing moonbats. Probably not.
As for the animosity, it’s not the word I would use. I would go with frustration: frustration at a politician who forgot what his job was – to represent the people of his state, not to represent himself; That’s the disconnect.
Your concerns about a Pyrhhic victory are noted, but not well placed. That will only happen if the Lieberman the quisling is reelected. Otherwise, why have a Democratic Party?
Milleneryman@119
Right on brother-man!
Jenny from the Blog @ 99
I shall go boldly forth blowing bubbles.
Jacqrat @ 116
OK, I was so rockin’ out with Patti, I timed out on adding lyrics to enable your own Karaoke w/Ms. Smth! Here goes:
PEOPLE HAVE THE POWER!!!
I was dreaming in my dreaming
of an aspect bright and fair
and my sleeping it was broken
but my dream it lingered near
in the form of shining valleys
where the pure air recognized
and my senses newly opened
I awakened to the cry
that the people / have the power
to redeem / the work of fools
upon the meek / the graces shower
it’s decreed / the people rule
The people have the power
The people have the power
The people have the power
The people have the power
Vengeful aspects became suspect
and bending low as if to hear
and the armies ceased advancing
because the people had their ear
and the shepherds and the soldiers
lay beneath the stars
exchanging visions
and laying arms
to waste / in the dust
in the form of / shining valleys
where the pure air / recognized
and my senses / newly opened
I awakened / to the cry
Refrain
Where there were deserts
I saw fountains
like cream the waters rise
and we strolled there together
with none to laugh or criticize
and the leopard
and the lamb
lay together truly bound
I was hoping in my hoping
to recall what I had found
I was dreaming in my dreaming
god knows / a purer view
as I surrender to my sleeping
I commit my dream to you
Refrain
The power to dream / to rule
to wrestle the world from fools
it’s decreed the people rule
it’s decreed the people rule
LISTEN
I believe everything we dream
can come to pass through our union
we can turn the world around
we can turn the earth’s revolution
we have the power
People have the power …
Can someone delete my 99 before I get a bad reputation? :)
Gee! a sock hop for Lamont!
timewarp @ 117
Timewarp – Don’t thank me! Thank RON! He brought it up, but I know what you mean about HORSES… I’m right there with you! G-L-O-R-I-A! (((Timewarp))) xoxoxo
and a one and a two and . . .
*tapdancing!*
You dance beautifully, astralplame
better a sock hop for Lamont than a sad sack for Lieberman !
DAMN, timewarp!! You rock. Yes. You do.
Now go, fly like the wind, and alert the (HACK! COUGH! AARGH!) “media”. Get that damning headline up there in the Hartford Courant! Get that blow-dried bimbo on Ch. 3 (8?) to intone, gravely, “We have BREAKING NEWS about the questionable tactics of the Lieberman campaign..!” :-)
Kathryn in MA @ 127
With dialup, I don’t do the youtube thing much, but there’s got to be a good version of “I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles” around somewhere . . .
Jenny – seriously? You want that comment deleted?
Patti — a Goddess among goddesses.
I saw her browsing around in the Strand in NYC a couple of years ago. I was quivering with excitement. Also went to her 30th Horses reunion concert at BAM in Brooklyn — took my daughter who is also 30, who loved it as much as me (there were a lot of other similar mother-daughter pairings!)
fran @ 130
Hey Fran. It’s not a sock hop, it’s K A R A O K E.
Try to keep up, okay?
I know we are not supposed to feed the trolls…but Fran, can’t you act like a REAL Lieberman supporter and go beat up some old ladies?
Anne -
Nah, I’m okay, thanks. That comment does seem to have legs, though!
Father fran, what do you think about Sen. Lieberman calling for Rumsfeld’s resignation?
fran, at fdl, we don’t take kindly to anyone taking a swipe at posters. Donita has been kind enough to post here. Just so there’ no misunderstanding, why don’t you thank her for her nice post and how much she expanded your musical/cultural horizons.
Then I want your response on Rummy.
Mommybrain:
Lieberloser is on Ed Schultz whining right now. He said there was no schedule for his bus, they’re touring the state making impromptu stops.
Hmmm, do you think they’re trying to give the Kiss Float the slip and avoid embarassing questions from the likes of Spazeboy, or are they just trying to have a plausible excuse for why there aren’t more than five unpaid people at any of his campaign stops?
Hee, hee!
I am so dissapointed, I finally for the first time stumped YouTube looking for a clip of Don Ho’s Tiny Bubbles that I wanted to play.
A fews years ago, Patti was playing at a small club in L.A. and seeing her up-close and personal like that was incredible. What a force of nature! When she sang “Keep on Rockin in the Free World” the place went nuts…
Looks like some Republican insider has leaked a 91 page “final election push” strategy memo to Rawstory.
This could be very good.
-GSD
fran, shooogarp’s 1:09 must have hurt.
Are you ok?
email for you finifini!
John Casper @ 142
Yes, and Fran, while you are chewing on that one, can you tell us how do you feel about DLC lobbiests for Big Pharma getting dressed up like a thug so he could go and act like one at a Hamburger Joint yesterday?
Classy, huh?
got that, Redshift, it’s the multi-purpose campaign excuse:
1. No one knew we were coming
2. We foiled the Kiss Float {beepbeep!}
3. The Senator’s paid supporters are out beating up on Lamont campaign events!
Hoooray to all the FDL moderators who do such a great job!
fran, you are not authorized to use the last syllable of my FDL handle.
Cease and desist immediately.
Say goodnight, Joe.
“A Democratic senator said Friday that if Sen. Joe Lieberman loses his primary Tuesday by a significant margin, he expects the Connecticut lawmaker to abandon plans to run as an independent.
Sen. Frank Lautenberg (news, bio, voting record) of New Jersey, who just days ago campaigned with Lieberman, said a decisive win by anti-war challenger Ned Lamont would probably drive Lieberman off the ballot in the November general election.
In more troubling news for Lieberman, Lautenberg also said he would back the Democratic nominee who emerges from the primary, a view shared by several senators.”
(AP via yahoo)
Oh yeah Fight the Power! Got it on my iPod now! (ah, to be 21 again….)
Jenny from the Blog @ 145
I know. She is a force of nature, and completely 100% real. I don’t think I can think of a more honest human being. At BAM, she danced into the crowd. For real. I felt like I was at Delphi, being initiated into the cult of reality or something.
goodnight, RGJoe!
hey! go easy on Fran — imagine what it’s like to be a loyal LieberYouth — chaperones, lights out at 10pm, no dancing to lascivious music, no carbonated soda, mandatory prayers before work, no shiny shoes, num-chuck practice, etc
I think Fran is sorta of wistful …
Your right John,Thank you Donita.
I was busy at the VA hospital with my brother
so I might have missed that but more to the point what do you think of Hillary calling
for his resignation? Rumsfeld has miscalculated
this war every step of the way and should resign
timewarp -
Was she spitting? She would pause, spit on the stage and continue on. Too funny. Also, I wonder if her son is still in the band…
Patti Smith is great in all her incarnations. I swear I spent three weeks straight in 1978 listening to Horses in my apartment….
I saw her that same year in upstate New York at Hamilton College. It was THE strangest scene. Not so much the concert, which included a lot of hostility from a few crowd members which she gave back and then drowned out with noise. But I got to see her sound check — my friend was the College paper music critic. Anyway, at the same time that The Patti Smith Group was warming up in this chapel/auditorium in Clinton, Massachusetts, there was also a wedding rehearsal going on. If I had been taking drugs, I would be in lockdown to this day.
And as I said just last night, her “Hey Joe” is superior.
Haw! He just can’t stop himself, can he? “Rumsfeld should resign! — er, if that’s okay with you, sir…”
Sorry to post and run, and if this has been posted, once again I’m sorry, it been a hectic day here for me.
Senator Lautenberg, who I might add campaigned for Liarloserliabilityman, had some rather harsh words for Joe
ifwhen he loses.http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/200…..hvBHNlYwM-
some lyrics for Jane and all the other firedogs out there working to bring those chimes back into hearing range… what chimes? read on.
Calexico – All Systems Red
Felt a tremor stir beneath my breath
That forecasts storms on the gallup poll
Woke up from the nightmare news
Hoping to read a sign in the morning air
Nothing changes here and nothing improves
All say my friends who just want out
And leave these troubles behind
Scatter like paper in the eye of the storm
Documented with a silenced note
That’s only heard from far, far away
More cards in play, following suit
Everywhere you look, you only see red
And wonder when to call off the race
Watching a horse running down its last legs
Just when you think it couldn’t get much worse
The numbers rise on the death toll
And the chimes of freedom flash and fade
Only heard from far, far away
I hear you can’t trust in your own
Now the grey is broken in the early mornin’
And the words forming barely have a voice
It’s just your heart that’s breaking without choice
Everything you hear is distorted in your head
Bouncing off the walls, unraveling the thread
Staying up with the blue screen glow
Forgetting everything you ever dreamed years ago
When the dread is flowing down my veins
I want to tear it all down and build it up again
Tear it all down and build it up again
Hear your heart that’s breaking without choice
I want to hear those chimes ring again
– well, folks– I hear ‘em ringin just a bit closer everytime I read an FDL report from the ground in Connecticut. rock on. –
fran, thank you for commenting your gratitude to Donita for her post.
That comment alone buys a lot of credibility with me.
I respect your sincere support for Senator Lieberman. I disagree with it, but I have a lot of respect for your loyalty.

I finally replaced my old Horses album with a CD not long ago. It’s so great to have her in my collection again, and in a listenable format.
Remember the Gilda Radner spoof of Patti? That was rude but pretty funny…
and there are old Germans who still think their Fuhrer got a raw deal … loyal Germans!
Fran,
Let me add to John C’s 164 — you know we do a lot of other stuff around here, but we are keeping our eyes on this race right now. When next Wednesday rolls around, maybe you should just continue coming and posting here. The water is fine!
Millineryman @ 162
Yeah, I saw that. This is my favorite quote:
In the radio interview, Lautenberg said the enthusiasm of the pro-Lieberman crowds left him stunned by the new poll numbers showing Lamont with a double-digit lead.
“I’m very sad to see what the polls are saying at this point in time,” Lautenberg said.
Those College repugs sure know how to whip up a crowd…. but enthusiam? Hmmmmm….
Thanks Donita!
And re: the Aldon comment quoted- he works for the Lamont campaign if it is the same Aldon- so they’ll have known about the Goodstein thing. M/VG
EPU 125 — My apologies to Your Omnisience, but I don’t understand your comment. (*Tucks head between knees and cowers.*) Krugman’s column is pro-partisanship, not against it. He’s lambasting groups like NARAL and the Sierra Club that endorsed Lincoln “Puddles” Chafee. The title of the column is “Centrism is for Suckers.” And the last two paragraphs are aimed striaght at HoJo:
That doesn’t sound to me like an endorsement of Lieberman. In fact, it sounds like Krugman agrees with you — which is only proper, seeing as how you are a Universe and he a mere columnizer.
Justin Rood at TPMmuckracker has an update on our favorite burger joint patron . . .
No Big Pharma, but definitely K-Street (or maybe off-off-K-Street). And why does “waste disposal” not surprise me?
The problem with only having a couple of clients is that if one or two or (God forbid) all three should become displeased with your conduct, and less than happy with being associated with your actions, that could put a real crimp in your cash flow.
Google away for email addresses, y’all . . .
Remember the Gilda Radner spoof of Patti?
Yes! Everything back then seemed so much more clever somehow. Now, we pretty much are stuck with vulgar.
The spin I’m in…
Maybe Joe Leavermann should take to heart the political equivalent of the sentiment expressed in St. Paul Peterson’s beautiful song “Don’t Turn Away.”

Hello, M!
Senate Dems are terrified as to who’s gonna be end up on August Ninth the NEW right-most Blue State enabler of BushCo’s war-machine-for-Empire. Darth Cheney must be growling in his bunker — trying to keep W on the leash and not “kissing” RGJoe again.

edit: I also think you misread Krugman and that he would agree with your post.
Thanks Valley at 1:22, it’s great to know they are on top of things.
Per mc and others above, the news from Sen. Frank Lautenberg is like throwing an anvil on a sinking Lieberman campaign.
Thanks imm for the nice diplomacy with fran.

OT for imm- advice: use a timer and make yourself write for x time. Don’t try to get one part perfect before moving on to next. Get it all down then edit. When it got down to the wire I finally figured out something that helped: I said to myself, okay, I think I can finish this x section in an hour, etc. Actually it usu. took me less time than I estimated, and really helped me feel more “in control” at that point- pretty easy to unravel without some sense that “it’s getting” done, I find.
John Casper – Talk about “feel,” it’s been a pleasure to watch you, in your affirming way, reach your hand out and “gentle” the wild horses.
well done, Fini.
I am now stepping away from the computer, shutting it down, {yes, I AM} and entering the real world, consisting of Safeway grocery shopping. The earthquake earlier this week made me nervous about having NO food in the house. So I’m stocking up.

Now I want to know something. How many groups of people do you ever end up in these days wherein there is even one other person (other than yourself) who “gets” Patti Smith (much less heard of her!)
Oh, just wanted to mention that when I saw her in Jan 05, she was playing with the original Patti Smith Group. Yup, she was!
Can we kill the Italics though?
BarbaraB, Hello, sweetie!! Can you come to CT?
rock and roll and pop music bores me but even I have heard of Patti Smith

Thanks, Donita. Thanks, Finifinifinifinifini.
LOL astralplame! I can’t help it. I saw that “piano man” clip years ago and I just found it on youtube.
Jacqrat @ 197
Jaqrat, that gave me chills. Seriously, I am covered in goosebumps!
Thanks for the link, Peterr. It’s intersting that Justin Rood assumes that Goodstein is a pro bono heckler, rather than a paid one. Maybe Tricky Richie is doing this for love, but maybe he’s doing it for money. Oh, not Short Ride’s piddling $60 a day. But someone should find ut if he’s being paid, and whether that is being reported as an in kind contribution to the Lieberman campaign, either from one of Goodstein’s clients or from his lobbying firm.
Here’s a nice Dean-to-Lamont analysis by Stirling Newberry:

Plenty of juicy, excerptable quotes in there!
The Dollar for Dollar MATCH is a great way to show support.

More bang for your buck…GO NED GO!
I doubt if Goodstein was being paid — he was just being helpful to the campaign as a “leader” — powerful politicians have ways of remembering useful campaign friends …
Hi Kathryn in MA! No, I can’t come to Connecticut, and you have no idea how much I want to. Blow some bubbles for me, please.

I can soooo imagine Nedheads blowing lots of bubbles from now until November at campaign events.

McGee — Magyar?
astral, my pleasure!
He has a nice way with meta-analyses. Getting awfully late for lunch, though.
BarbaraB — as I read the article, those were some of the things Rood was planning to find out from Goodstein when he hung up on him, and that he’s now trying to find out from the campaign.
I could see it being either way — Goodstein has been a contributor in the past, so he might be helping out his friend Joe on a volunteer basis, but there are also past references to him as a “Democratic consultant,” so he could also be on staff.
To me, he seems like an asshole, but probably thinks of himself as a good Democrat. He’s just a DLC-ish type who doesn’t see anything wrong with working as a lobbyist and working on the campaign of someone who he might be lobbying.
You know, the kind of person we need to get rid of, but like Joe, not intentionally harmful.
Holy shit Donita Sparks just talked to me!!! I am a huge fan!
For some reason, my partner and I think that is the funniest clip ever…. go fig!
VH1 Classic is playing an ancient Bangles song title of which escapes me at the moment, but it begs the question, WHAT IN GODS NAME WERE WE ALL WEARING IN THE 80S?!?!?!?
No its not Walk Like An Egyptian. It’s the other tune they had a minor hit with before that. When Sussanna Hoffs was hottest. Oh, “Hero Takes A Fall” according to end credits.

Hi, Donita and all…
guess you heard the news that Arthur Lee passed away today. I participated in a benefit concert for him once about 15 years ago in Hollywood, and met the man briefly. By most accounts Lee was an often troubled man with more than his fair share of demons, and apparently he could be a real bastard.
But he was also a great, maybe even visionary artist, and Forever Changes, the masterpiece album by his band Love is one of the true highwater marks of rock music.
I salute him.
BTW, a lot of fun and excellent songs on the list today but PE’s “Fight the Power” has to be numero uno. It’s flat out one of the greatest artifacts ever produced by hip-hop culture.
and Johnny Rotten would have killed for this line:
“Elvis/he was a hero to most/but he never meant shit to me”
Jacqrat,
Great job to post the lyrics.
