From the Lamont Campaign:
Senator Lieberman has raised ten million dollars for his campaign. Think about how much money that is for a second.
That’s a lot of buttons, bumper stickers and television ads paid for in part by those profiting from war, high gas prices, and expensive prescription drugs. We need your contribution to counter their last-minute attacks.
http://www.nedlamont.com/contribute
For Senator Lieberman’s corporate backers, it’s a healthy investment that comes with expectations—expectations focusing on finding “common ground” with President Bush rather than “common good” for the American people.
It’s all about the votes now, and paying for an expansive statewide GOTV operation is essential. Senator Lieberman’s campaign is hiring four thousand staffers down the stretch. We’re turning to you one last time to help fund our volunteer effort.
http://www.nedlamont.com/contribute
Starting with Ned’s official announcement in March, we’ve shared the experience of a democratic revival taking place in Connecticut. Your contribution will help write the final chapter of a story D.C. insiders long hoped would remain fiction: “People-power elects U.S. Senator, democracy back in style.”
http://www.nedlamont.com/contribute
Election Day is one week from today. Let’s put Ned, and our voice, in the United States Senate.
Rock the boat,
Tom Swan
Campaign Manager, Ned Lamont for U.S. Senate
Soon we're going to be putting up a list of hotels, office information, train info, etc. for those who want to come up for the weekend and help out (Siun has been working on it all day). If you've been thinking about coming to Connecticut, your help is surely needed -- there is no way to battle Holy Joe with money, it's going to come down to passion and commitment on the part of Ned's supporters. We'll most certainly be doing lots of fun stuff as well as working our butts off this weekend so I hope to see everyone who does make it up.
Thursday is also the last day for the family, friends and neighbors page, and there is also an invite page now where you can invite the folks you know to use the tool. It's going to be a really, really important part of the Lamont campaign arsenal in the last few days so please if there is nothing else you can do, take a look at this tool and see if there aren't some folks on your email list you could send it to.
I heard a story yesterday about someone who'd gone to the baseball hall of fame in New York and stopped by a diner aferward. Somehow it entered the conversation that they were from Connecticut and the person who was serving them said that they had been following the Lieberman/Lamont race online through the blogs and said "please, please if there is one thing you do, please vote for Ned Lamont."
This race has touched the hearts of so many people who see it as an opportunity to rekindle hope in our political system. Don't be shy, go visit the page for the invite tool and send an invitation to anyone you think might even remotely be interested. You never know whose life might be made just a little bit better by knowing that they helped the country over this very important finish line on August 8.

nice commercial
jeebus, no one wants to join me.
:
NED!
JANE!
KOBE!
ROOTZ!
Pach gets a zero! Nice.
They will be here shortly Pach. *ilson just let us know about the new thread.
That is a great commercial.
Hopeful, and not begging for votes, but calling for a partnership.
I think I feel allergies coming on…
Well, Pach, looks like it’s just you and me — and I gotta go. Hold down the fort, will you?
And, yes, it’s a nice commercial. Just a little too warm and fuzzy for me, but whatever does the trick.
William Samuel Johnson and Oliver Ellsworth were Connecticut’s two Senators at the first meetings of the U.S. Senate in 1789.
May Ned Lamont follow in their illustrious footsteps!
Roots! wow so many mirrors I can’t find the entrance.)
Not to worry Pach, back in the country and will probably be in CT this weekend for the final stretch. Got a pic to download from my camera and send you.
You’re not alone here by any means!
Trying to get in here I was sent back to fdl June 24th.
yep, nice commercial. Stop wishing and start doing.
Just sent an email to another CT dem I know. One mind at a time…
I totally got goosebumps from that commercial.
Really good.
little dog? did you get my comment last thread?
Lamont’s ads shold be a model for the Democratic House and Senate races this year
Goper’s Lament
FDL and the wider netroots obviously are having an effect. Now comes - wait for it - RightRoots!
Tah-dah!

So after all the ridicule and derision, now they’re trying to play catch-up. Except, in true authoritarian style, they have a panel of RW bloggers approving candidates for sponsorship.
Hey Joey, it’s not to late to apply! Even though you’ve already “aspirated” $10 mil from your corporate pals, there’s always room for a bit more, eh?
I laugh with tears in my eyes at the end of every “AND SO DO WE!”
This one adds the “YEA!!”
It makes me feel, well, hopeful.
That commercial should make Joe Grieverman
Lamont on Colbert replay right now.

And did you see that contributors don’t donate directly to campaigns?
“But, we still needed some place that could handle the money, so we partnered with ABC PAC, a PAC run by credible conservatives that we felt we could trust. Some of the PAC members include:
Jason Torchinsky: Deputy General Counsel to Bush-Cheney ‘04.
Michael Turk: The former eCampaign Director at the Republican National Committee.
Frank Donatelli: An assistant to President Reagan for political and intergovernmental affairs, a senior advisor to Bob Dole in 1996.
Chuck Defeo: eCampaign Manager for Bush-Cheney ‘04″
KO just pointed out that Rushbo was channeling Osama with their statements about culpabilities of civilians in time of war …
immanentize @ 17
It’s also a great subtle dig at Lieberman’s “Run away! Run away!” style of campaigning.
And look at all these people happy and excited to stand with Ned. Who’s happy and excited to stand with Joe?
Q. Eli:
” Who’s happy and excited to stand with Joe?”

Ten million is a awful lot of money to spend in a week, it seems to me, no matter how many people you hire to get out the vote. What happens if he has money left over and doesn’t end up running in the general election?
neuro 23:
But are they standing with him proudly, or are they just slipping him cash under the table?
Good point, Eli.
Those smiles on their faces may be forced.
Eli @ 22
I think Fran from the last thread stands with Joe, but she didn’t seem too happy :~(
Eli @ 22
The people who are happy to finance Joe are the pharmaceutical lobby, the war lobby, the banking/insurance lobby, and the accounting lobby. But they’re too busy to waste time standing around at a HoJo campaign event. And too cynical to be excited about anything. Business is business, eh?
you can spend leftover campaign cash for donations to other campaigns, to your legal defense fund, to charities. You may not convert it for personal use.
Lieberman can use the money for future campaigns, can use it for a legal defense fund (not necessary yet), or can donate some or all of it to a political party. I think that is the extent of its uses….
Fern @ 24
He can always have a swell bat mitzvah for some lucky girl…badda bing, badda bang.
I think Fran from the last thread stands with Joe, but she didn’t seem too happy :~(
The Liebertrolls need a new script…
Ya gotta get pretty early in the morning to beat *ilso, imm.
I forgot: you can invest leftover campaign cash for use for your future political campaigns …
Is it me, or does that “elephant-with-tentacles-for-legs” graphic with the “rightRoots” thingy look vaguely diseased? It’s like something out of a horror flick - the elephant suddenly spouting tentacles and attacking the circus audience, innit?
Wonder what Darkblack can do with that and a little photoshop magic?
Saw this from Mary in the previous thread:
Potential good Sunday comeback for Ned - “Lieberman likes to talk about the money I made as a businessman, but I couldn’t buy a day of the war he’s enabled if I spent every dime.”
I forgot: you can invest leftover campaign cash for use for your future political campaigns …
*snort*
I wonder whether Joe could convert it to a political action committee to support blindly pro-Bush politicians, and pay himself a nice salary to manage it?

“RightRoots, one more way to separate you rubes from your coin!”
Wow just misread that as testicles for legs. ‘Nuff to give this dyke nightmares.
ifthethunderdontgetya @ 31
I DO get up early and I still can’t beat him!
I just made my first contribution to a candidate ever, after watching this ad. It wasn’t not much, but it’s what I can spare right now. Nice ad.
I’ve been wracking my brains for a slogan for the Dems and after watching this ad, I thought, this man’s got a spine…. so, what about,
“This year’s Democrats: Less Fear, More Spine”
Aslo - I am intrigued by the rightroots thing. Interesting point from that rightroots website, one that gives me good feelings about FDL, Ned, and progressive action generally.
The thing that jumps out at me here is that they are essentially ceding all claim to the concept of “netroots” to progressive activism. Though, it is also interesting that they conceive of their action only in terms of the elephant and party affiliation. From what I can tell around here (and in myself), most netroots folks feel a drive to improve the nation for all people, not just advance a particular party.
I’ve been reading this blog for about six months, and I just can’t understand why you all are so mean to a nice, charming, liberal Democrat senator like Joe Lieberman. Shouldn’t you be concentrating on beating Republicans?
That is a brilliant fundraising letter.
The $10 mil raised issues and comment was excellent. $10 mil can’t even buy one hour of this war. And if Lamont spent every time he has ever earned, he could not buy one day I bet. Put that in terms regular people can understand.
And also that many of his donors are straight out of the Buxh reelection campaign is not a good sign for a ‘dem.’
al-Scooter @ 37
it does look that way - (and thanks!)
Wow just misread that as testicles for legs. ‘Nuff to give this dyke nightmares.
There is an actual blooper that goes something like this:
But do I ever remember anything useful? Nooo…
I have been reading this blog for about six months, I don’t post much, but I think you all are great! I just don’t understand why you spend so much time on the Lieberman race when there is Lebanon and Castro and Iraq and Canadian Rules football that need this blogs immediate attention!!
Fran and Frank - what a nice couple. We are backing Lamont to bring real democracy back to America. Thanks for asking.
I DO get up early and I still can’t beat him!
I’m not going to beat anybody.

This IS a joke, right?
Eli:
Speaking frankly, you are correct.
How did you know? Do you have Mod Vision?
OK, I had to look at Rightroots. The logo makes the Republican party look like it is literally stuck in the mud. It reads like another top-down effort to out media the leftospehere: with something like –
They raised $_______, we raised $___________ X 3!! It will all be corporate driven and inspire no passion for candidates. It is just another way for the right to launder money to Republicans. PS, I didn’t see Joementum on their list of approved candidates….
How did you know? Do you have Mod Vision?

Did you have TWO BEERS before you posted that? ; )

Are there any variations other than “Why do you always blog about Lamont & Lieberman?” and “Why aren’t you blogging about Israel & Lebanon?”
(Or “Why are you blogging about Lamont & Lieberman instead of Israel & Lebanon?”)
I just worry that the Democratic party will split itself apart arguing about a divisive issue like the Iraq war. Wouldn’t it be better if we focused on issues we can all agree on, like protecting our children from pornographic music lyrics?
FYI - this was at 140K this morning: http://nedlamont.com/blog/860/ten-million-dollars
Great work everybody…GO NED GO!
HopeSpringsATurtle @ 14
Yes - - had to go to the vet, work and take a nap, so got behind.
I love Dr. Turtle’s quip about the Golden Girls. :)
Tipper, you silly girl — we recognize you despite the pseudonym !
A lot of good that Lamont commercial will do you idealists when Lieberman hijacks all the voting machines.
What good does it do to campaign for a candidate if all the votes will be stolen?
francesca, you are obviously not aware that al Qaeda is directly responsible for all pornographic music lyrics. Osama comes up with them personally, in fact.
Well, I went over to rightroots, and I gotta say, I hope they didn’t pay whoever designed that godawful logo for them. Cause they wuz robbed.
Mistake I made was starting to read posts. Big on death and destruction, that lot.
Sorry “Frank” about linking you with Fran. My mistake.
I think I need to check into that rehab place where Mel Gibson is…
The rightwingnews site is awful. The logo alone is disturbing. Don’t they know red is the most difficult color for the eye to detect. Honestly, the only thing that logo looks like it’s designed to accommodate is a rubberstamp mold. Ouch!
that six month thing gave Frank away.
Eli — How about,
I have read with great interest all you have been writing about the Connecticut race. Lots of great comments. But I am worried about Lamont having so much Haliburton stock in his portfolio. Also, I worry that Lieberman really landed one with his point about Ned’s membership in that elite country club. Don’t you all think that really hurts his “man of the people” routine?
Osama? Who’s that?
neuro,
having a case of multiple personalities tonight? Might want to sign the next one Sybil.
That’s a good ‘un, imm.
Or, to sorta borrow/adapt something from a non-troll comment I saw recently, “Don’t you all think it looks like shameless pandering to the black vote when Lamont uses black people like Maxine Waters as props to make it look like he actually cares about them?”
Osama? Who’s that?
Oh, some awful guy.
Fern - *g*
As a semi-ex-pat I follow politics downunder as well as home and a common biting criticism of Aussie politicians is that they lack “ticker” meaning they lack heart or spine. The dems really have to have more ticker if they are going to succeed in the long run. Ned seems to have ticker.
GO NED GO! http://thumbsnap.com/v/zKlriJho.jpg
I would pose as Mel Gibson and do an anti-ethnic rant, but I’m afraid somebody out there would think it was real.
I’m just getting to FDL today, so I’m sure this has been said many times already. But I have to add my voice. That is one of the best campaign ads I have ever seen. Smart, visually engaging, and emotionally honest. Ned is the real thing.
The dems really have to have more ticker if they are going to succeed in the long run. Ned seems to have ticker.
If the Dems started standing up for themselves, I think I might get ticker shock.
OK, this is just too wierd. mash it up with Dana Milbank For the older-timers in the crowd it reminds me of the “mix” record (now mash up) of the 1972 Republican Convention which always has Henry Kissinger answering after each question, “Gotta Find a Woman, Gotta Find a Woman” from Trogledyte, by the Jimmy Castor Bunch.
Maybe FFT could do something for Friday?

how about -
given the challenges that face the Democrat party up to and including the 2008 presidential race - isn’t it most important now to really pull together under a unified banner and bring all this “netroots” energy under the direction of the Democrat Party leadership?
ifthethunderdontgetya @ 57
ROTFLMAO! Perfect.
When you are bombing terrists who have blended into a civilian population, and you want to announce how many terrists you’ve killed, what do you do–just count every male casualty between the ages of 12 and 60 as a terrist?

If they’re not a terrorist now, they’re sure to be one in a few years. Because they hate our freedom.
the USA has long planned for democracy in Cuba — didnt you ever see the movie JFK ?

Eli, what else are we to assume, right?
W the understanderer.

*ilson, no I didn’t see JFK. Please don’t tell me the plot looks like this.
Time to hike upstairs…..
Is Joe L. gonna spend ten million bucks all in a week? Maybe I’m too naive about how they burn up money in a political campaign, but on what all do you spend that much money in such a short space of time? You know, I’m sure I’d have a helluva a great time trying, but I don’t know if I’d be able to get rid of ten million in just seven days.
My hunch is telling me that he plans to hang on to some of it for the campaign up until November. Since he’s said he’s going to stay in the race, whether he wins the primary or not, he’s gonna need some cash either way, isn’t he?

Well, now know why the comments got wider and w i d e r and w i d e r!
Can I be a speech writer for Joe at his next stop?
“Ladies and gentlemen of this supposed constituency, Joe Lamont would certainly want you to believe that I am George Bush. And he makes a good case. Hell, I almost feel like him myself! But, ladies and gentlemen of this supposed constituency, I have one final thing I want you to consider. Ladies and gentlemen, this is Chewbacca. Chewbacca is a Wookiee from the planet Kashyyyk. But Chewbacca lives on the planet Endor. Now think about it; that does not make sense!
Why would a Wookiee, an eight-foot tall Wookiee, want to live on Endor, with a bunch of two-foot tall Ewoks? That does not make sense! But more important, you have to ask yourself: What does this have to do with this case? Nothing. Ladies and gentlemen, it has nothing to do with this case! It does not make sense! Look at me. I’m a congresscritter defending a major asshole president, and I’m talkin’ about Chewbacca! Does that make sense? Ladies and gentlemen, I am not making any sense! None of this makes sense! And so you have to remember, when you’re in that voting booth deliberatin’ and conjugatin’ the Emancipation Proclamation, does it make sense? No! Ladies and gentlemen of this supposed constituency, it does not make sense! If Chewbacca lives on Endor, you must elect me! I rest.
You see, it is all about Joe….Joe for Conneticut…..Joe for the President…..Joe for all the wrong reasons.
Have you had enough yet?
