Matt Stoller and I were standing in the parking lot of a local hair salon with Tom Swan, Rick Melita and John Murphy of the Lamont campaign when the call came in that the New York Times was endorsing Ned Lamont. It was war whoops, hugs and high-fives all around, and all were quick to give credit to the remarkable team of people who have done so much to get Ned to this place that was all but unimaginable only a few short months ago.
Maxine Waters was down the street with Ned knocking on doors in the heat. She is an absolute tireless machine working on Ned’s behalf, and she’ll be pounding the pavement in one neighborhood after another until late tonight. How excited am I about seeing the Temptations play the New Haven Green tonight with Maxine Waters? Oh yeah.
We also shot Ned’s first video blog this morning on the set of his new Hillsman commercial. This thing is far from won — the Courant today endorsed Lieberman — but Ned’s definitely got the wind at his back and there’s a terrific sense of excitement in the air. Nobody knows what will happen but the next week is going to be something to see.
There is a feeling that regardless of the outcome, we’re reaching some kind of turning point and history is being made. If you’d like to volunteer they really need people to canvass, make phone calls, or just do whatever the campaign needs. You can contact the Lamont campaign here. And there is also the Family, Friends and Neighbors tool to help you reach folks you may know who are Connecticut voters.
I know for myself that win or lose, making the choice to come here and be a part of this is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made and I know it’s something I’m going to remember for the rest of my life. I encourage everyone who can do so to show up and lend a hand. For all of us who have lived on the edge of despair as we watched America get dragged through a series of things we thought our country would never stoop to, it’s an incredible sight to behold.

Mr. Lamont !

I’ll second that.
Ned
BTW, that is a *fabulous* picture above.
I’ve said it before – this has been amazing. Fantastic.

the endorsement info was broken within the Nagourny story on the CT race http://www.nytimes.com/2006/07…..38;emc=rss

To be honest: I worry that we’re celebrating too early.
I don’t mean to be a killjoy but let’s get through the election.
.
Great pic of Ned in the neighborhood.
If you have ideas as to who at the NYT’s we should congratulate on their wisdom in endorsing Ned, I am interested.
i really could care less about lamont, and don’t know too much about him. but i hope he wins ’cause i really, really hate lieberman.
undermining a war criminal at our own peril indeed. jackass!
Has anyone asked Joe to say the following?;
“I’m a Democrat.”
Has anyone asked Joe to say the following?;
“I’m a Democrat.”
I’d like to see him say it hooked up to a polygraph. Or poligraph.
Ok I am asking all my DFA brothers and sisters who live in and near CT volunteer to be the boots on the ground if you can.
Has anyone thought about virtural phone banking for those of us who cannot get to CT for the final push. I am willing to use my 9,000 rollover minutes to call voters in CT between now and Aug 8th. If someone will give me a phone list, I will be dialing for voters… for Ned Lamont!
Jane is there anyway we can organized this?
Joe said “I’m a lumberjack, and I’m OK. I work all night and I sleep all day”

or a Plethysmograph …
and… that pic should def. be highlighted in some way by the Lamont campaign- pic with text on a billboard stragetically located in the New Haven area? How much does a bill board placing cost, and is it possible to do it quickly (sigh, probably not quickly)…
moeman at 16:
according to the adamnags article (which referenced the endorsement), Bill Clinton did- he told him he needed to say first thing and last thing, every time he spoke, “I am a Democrat.”
The thing is, we’ve learned to believe actions, not words, especially where he is concerned. If it walks like a Republican….
BTW, not to pour cold water, but the article also has a parenthetical that NYT has only once endorsed Liberman, so this is not as unprecedented as it might seem at first glance. And he got elected each time, anyway. Just saying.
spork, it’s a milestone and every journey needs milestones. Think Chimney Rock in Western NE on the Oregon Trail.
National NARAL, National PP, and a ton of labor unions have endorsed Joe along with Boxer and former two-term Democratic President of the United States, Bill Clinton.
The New York Times, told them all to go Dick Cheney themselves and endorsed Ned.
Ned has virtually zero legislative experience. He absolutely had to have this endorsement. As someone opined prior thread, it’s “gravitas.”
A lot of voters in the primary and the general will take very serious notice, as they should, of a New York Times endorsement.
Joe has used every Rovian dirty trick in the book against Ned, we need to celebrate the milestones. Your counsel that “it’s not over till it’s over,” is well heeded.
How excited am I about seeing the Temptations play the New Haven Green tonight with Maxine Waters? Oh yeah.
Just gives me chicken skin when I read that and the rest of this post. I can’t help but wonder if Maxine sees the Senator in Ned, the ONE SENATOR (not Boxer) who would have stood up for her over Al Gore and the stolen election.
On the edge of my seat until the primary. Go Ned!!!
Y’know? That’s a really nice pic.
I’m gonna steal it but I want to give credit; did Jane take it?

Hey, everyone who can’t get to New Haven, prior thread, we could use an email to Sue Haigh of the AP about her unbelieveably bad article about Ned.
for Congresslady Waters to be in Connecticut for a second weekend is phenomenal !
punaise, brings down the house!
Thanks
Awright — somebody tell those of us who can’t get to CT and don’t have rollover minutes, what WE can do — I mean DO — to help you guys on the ground and on the phone!

But enough of my negativeness!

and… that pic should def. be highlighted in some way by the Lamont campaign-
that’s true, that pic says power, and i’m on the prowl.
Well, looks like Mr. Lamont has made a few small stumbles along the way…but to his credit, he gets right up and keeps moving forward. Good for him. Just “days” left in this thing. The final stretch. Strategy?
1. His Base is solid. Mr. Lamont could lock himself in a closet and his Base will still turn out 08/08. Nothing to shore up there.
2. Ms. Hamsher seems to report (if I recall correctly) that the race seems to come down to the Black vote? That’s what both campaigns focus on? Well ok then, Mr. Lamont needs to blanket the Black areas….hit them over and over and over.
3. ** I’d still run a little behind-the-lines raids into union halls. I think that Joe thinks that he’s got this sewn up. Maybe not. Make Joe think twice. Make Joe worry about his rear areas. Make him spin around. Sew the fear.
So…between now and 08/08, I encourage Mr. Lamont to saturate the Black neighborhoods, and keep coming into the union halls and factory gates. Blacks and labor….over and over. It just might be the knockout punch Mr. Lamont is looking for!
Ghostman
Where are Ned’s bodyguards?
He’s just out there with CT citizens, walking through a neighborhood, as though he respects them, and doesn’t think he’s better than they are.
Ghostman — Maxine is working the African-American community hard. For her to be back for a 2nd weekend is astounding.
also — notice the complexion of the folk around Ned in the photo.
Joe has used every Rovian dirty trick in the book against Ned, we need to celebrate the milestones. Your counsel that “it’s not over till it’s over,” is well heeded.
i don’t care about his voting record, joe does act like a republican. if he loses will the rest of the jackasses wake up and realize we want our country back?
here’s to hoping.
Is there a Photo credit? It is worthy of a BagNewsNotes analysis.
I need to run but can we put together an action list of things we can do?
1. Those willing to donate their rollover minutes to do virtual phone banking
2. Donate anything, any money will be matched by Ned
3. As your friends and family if they know anyone in CT to send the postcards from the Lamont Friends and Family
http://www.familyfriendsandneighbors.net/
4. Letters to the editors in local papers, say you have seen Ned, saw the debate in CSPAN & following the campaign and really wish you had a candidate like Ned in your state!
5. Find local CT radio stations with talk shows, call in and say the same!
Ok guys, brainstorm ….
Ghostman – If I were in CT working for Lamont I would follow your suggestions with gusto. Turn the union votes around Ned!
This is still a very uphill fight. We might lose. And yet, we have gained so much. And jane is right (we knew THAT), win or lose she has helped fight the fight and seen people up close which has eased her heart and all of ours seeing a good man stand up and be counted.
That is one reason all of us from all over the country are so interested — Ned’s race gives us hope. Joe does not.
And win or lose we will go on and not give up. I tell myself everyday that same thing because my despair after Dean’s and then kerry’s loss was physical.
Thanks Ned even before we know the next step. And Thanks Jane.
“if he loses will the rest of the jackasses wake up and realize we want our country back?”
I agree. IMHO, a NED Primary Victory on 08/08/06 pulls the entire nation, Democrats and Republicans a little closer to the center.
wilson, 37: duly noted. I’m encouraging this to be Ned’s every-day activity, every day from now till 08/08. Hopefully he’s making inroads!
Ghostman
Merci tejanarusa.
about the Unions — the vote in the AFL-CIO for endorsement of Joe was very split. This weakens the ability to get union volunteers. The endorsement did provide Joe cash. The Teachers Union went for Ned as did the SEIU (as I recall).
CAFTA/NAFTA Joe doesnt resonate too well with union families …
Will work on arrangements to spend the last weekend through election day in CT. when I get back from Canada. Maybe I can get some more of the MA rootsters to come with. We gotta win this thing!
me at 23 -
OOOps- it was Chris Dodd who was quoted as telling Lieberman to keep saying “I’m a Democrat.”
Sorry, sorry – hard to keep up while at work with the calls coming in, sneaking quick reads in between. my bad.
GrandmaJ – EPU from last night. I watched the show (tivo) with your concern in mind.
Watched the McCoughlin Group, you know for kicks and tv target practice. Blankley and Zuckerman thought Lieberman was a certain win in the primary and used dated statistics and info supporting themselves. Buchanan gave Lamont a 33 percent chance of winning in Nov. and looked like he believed the chances were better than 33 percent. Lux thought Lieberman had a golden parachute and would win both the primary and in November.
Bottom line Pat may be the only one speaking with updated information. What’s up with Pat and his left footing?
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could all go next weekend.
I love that picture, brought a tear to my eye. Thanks Jane for what you and all the other on the ground are doing.
Just sent my third $50 to Ned, and I’m in Texas.
Oh, and fuck Joe.
What’s up with Pat and his left footing?
Pat is evil, but he’s not a complete shill.
Valley Girl… Good to see you! I hope all is well.
Go Ned! Just sent him another $20
By the way Jane… Got link to Ned’s new video blog you mention in this post or is it not up yet?
I suspect Ned’s people are already getting this photo out to African American newspapers in CT. A photo like this paves the way for African American neighborhoods all over CT to invite Ned to visit them too.
Impossible to repay the debt we owe to Maxine. Down the road, I’d like to know how we could try.
In Sunday’s article by Adam Nigourney, Joe Lieberman is reported as having said:
This statement by Joe is almost Biblical in its sense of entitlement. He expected that God would intervene in his favor by sending a poor man to be his political adversary. It has nothing to do with whose cause was the more worthy, everything to do with God favoring Joe Lieberman. He even used the word “tested,” as if God was putting him through some kind of Jacobean ordeal, from which will emerge victorious.
Wake up Joe, you’re in the Nutmeg State, not in the Bible.
John @ 43 — I’d settle for a country where the elected politicians followed the law (which maybe is a centrist position these days?)
*ilson 37- oh yes, I noticed immediately- that is part of why I said in 7 that it a *fabulous* pic- and needs to be shown widely in the New Haven area.
That’s wonderful pic. Hope this is from a commercial that Lamont is running on TV.
If I were a black father or mother watching those kids walk with Lamont, how can I not vote for Lamont?
ember – I would camp out, anything, to be able to get up there and help out.

I remember Maxine Waters was none too happy when Gore picked JoMo as veep. Wish I had been as far-sighted as she was.
I agree with spork, this endorsement is great, and a nice counterweight to the wrench the Clintons and the Senate Dem women’s caucus threw in the works, but this is still an uphill fight.
I heard (read on the tubes, actually, you know what I mean) Lieberman signs are suddenly appearing where there had been none before. The establishment is leaning hard on its minions, I’m sure,.

Wake up Joe, you’re in the Nutmeg State, not in the Bible.
Joe thinks he wrote Leviticus.

ES, Pat Buchanon is imo anti-semitic.
He is also a Reagan Republican who is strongly against “nation building” which is what Republicans used to blast the United Nations about before Bush tried it in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Orangejumpsuit@55: That is disgusting….you can really see he’s been spending too much time with another religiose delusional who thinks his own thoughts are the voice of God.
Joe thinks he wrote Leviticus.

Buchanan is a throwback. Racist, anti-semitic, nationalistic nativist in the way the upper middle-class establishment was in the 30’s-50’s, I think, when it was respectable as long as you were quiet about it. A Taft-Goldwater-Nixon-Franco Republican.
Something about not eating Hadassah…
Selfish is okay, though.
John Casper 64 – We are on the same page.) He just doesn’t even try to spin in favor of the administration these days. Just a tad alarming.

My response to your comment went something like this: LOL, 707, LOL, 707…
Jane,
This is terrific. You have really helped to make this happen.
And how much do I LOVE LOVE LOVE that photo!
Someone asked about billboards upthread. You usually have to do your buy 6 months in advance and i don’t know about Conn, but they can run you avywhere from $2-10,000 for the month down here.
However, The brillinat Marsha Laufer (Dem Town Leader in Brookhaven) discovered that for a very modest permit fee you can get permission form DOT (Dept of Transportaion) to put up temprary billboards on regular highways. She put them all along the Long Island Expressway one cycle.
She had a crew of volunteers that made them from 2×4′ and 1/2 inch plywood. The entire thing, ran about $500 per bill board. They did the whole project in one weekend.
I don’t know what it would cost to blow up the picture, but WOW what a powerful billboard that would be.
Crowd at the Temptations concert might boo Joe out of the auditorium.
Here’s hoping.
Maybe the Temptations can dedicate “Ain’t Too Proud To Beg” to Joe.
LHP- thanks for the info- I asked about billboards… if you have the time it would be great to email the Lamont campaign with this info- I’d do it, but you obviously have much more info that I do!!!!
John Casper, I would love to see that!
Um, “Ain’t Too Proud To Beg“. Not sure what kind of Freudian slip *that* was…
M/VG is #1 you?
lhp, I hope the trial is going well and that Baby Mittens and Mom are well.
Eureka Springs @ 3:18, me too.
That Hartford Courant endorsement of Lieberman perpetuates the misperception that Lamon’t campaign is all about the Iraq War.
The cluelessness of our mainstream media is something to behold.
Well, I just got word that I am going to be an election worker here in Harlem — not a political battleground, but a first step for me.
I actually have a few weekdays off (i work a weird schedule) between now and 8/08/06, I will head up I95 and see if I can help.
I just got the chills reading your account Jane.
For me, this is so much more exciting than the anticipation of YearlyKos!
I’m just praying that we’re not disappointed with yet another “defeat”.
John Casper,
Thank you. Trial is over. Judge did not rule from the bench, so I still don’t KNOW if I won, but based on his refusal to modify my restraining order in any way pending decision, my law partner think we won huge.
Speaking of huge, Baby Mittens is turning into the biggest puppy i have everseen for her age. Must be b/c sha has no competition for milk. She is bigger than a Newfoundland puppy would be at this age (did you know that newfies and labs were once the same breed–but a branch of the show world started breeding for size and laonger coat until the AKC regonized as a seperate standard.? Little trivai for ya)
Babby Mittens eyes are open and she is starting to venture out of NYExH’s bedroom into the hall to see what everybody else is doing. We are days away from having to do something to contain her for her own safety.
The whole house revolves around the puppy.
Baby Mittens opened her eyes! She’s a Democrat now!
lhp: more pictures, please.
Hi, Charley, nice to see you again. And nice to see you too, “Valley Girl.” We were afraid we’d frightened you away with our enthusiastic welcome backs the first time you posted. As you’ve probably figured out by now, we thought you were our previous ValleyGirl, but as it turned out she is now “M.” Very French farce.
Jane, I cannot tell you how wonderful that photo is. What a contrast with the LieberYouth. It really just says it all.
I’m just praying that we’re not disappointed with yet another “defeat”.
FWIW
Eight months ago, Ned had “name recognition” in the single digits. He had to get 30% of the Dems at the convention to vote for him just to force a primary. Joezo is so scared he announced he would run as an independent if he lost the primary. That prompted MSNBC to televise their debate which helped Ned even more. There have been a lot of victories just to get to this point and to overcome the defeats, Bill Clinton’s decision to campaign with Joe, being perhaps the single largest. This is a marathon not a sprint.
ember, yes. I did that by accident. I was contemplating changing the email address for the reporter on the prev. thread, but *ilson did it first. Never mind the details, but my cookies were rearranged. M/VG
I’m a little confused, and not a Nutmegger, but I saw this at Colin McEnroe’s blog today:
…I would go to this event with Maxine Waters, simply because I do not believe Ned Lamont would have come to this place by another route:
Saturday, July 29
1 PM
Visit Hartford barbershop
It’s a Gee Thang Barber Salon
Is he implying that the Rich White Trust Fund Baby couldn’t find an ‘urban’ neighborhood without Maxine Waters to guide him? Hasn’t Lamont worked in an inner-city school for a couple of years? Has McEnroe not seen the “Mr Lamont” commercial? This was weird.
Lieberman will be at the concert tonight??? Somebody whistle up the Kiss Float.
Ghostman
The NYExH is off supervising the rugby referees at a tournament. he is the only one who knows the majic spells that get the pictures out of the camera and onto the computer screen.
If he is not hospitalized with heat prostration by the end of the day, I will see if he has the energy or inclanation to help with casting majic digital pix spells.
Who the hell schedule a rugby tournament at the end of July?? They had a CHILDRENs rugby tournament scheduled in central New Jersy (smoggy heat trap of the universe) for this weekend. I hope the cancelled cause the thought of little kids running full speed in this humid heat just scares me.
Ned needed only 15% of the vote to get on the ballot via convention — for him to get 30% was astounding — and these were the “professional Democrats”, the insiders, the machine pols !

do you have an email address for the Lamount campaign? Or feel free to email them with the plywood billboard stuff yourself. I have no pride of ownership, it wasn’t my idea, It was Marsha Laufer’s
katymine 2:53 pm — suggestion, if I may: go to the DFA meetup sites and DFA-Links for locations in CT, put a message on the boards there that you are looking for a call-list for CT areas underserved.
Ditto for anyone else looking to help. Go to Meetup.com, look for Democracy for America meetups, also DFALink.com. You may need to register as a user at either site — no cost, no commitment, and good for use for similar purposes as we approach the election.
Believe me, I may be counting on your being there for me as I may need the help in October here in Michigan.

That picture just knocks me out. As somebody who’s tried for years to get just the right shot of my dogs, I am filled with admiration for whoever composed and snapped that shot.
About those robo-calls – - I saw a post over on DU (I think) from a CT resident saying that Clinton saying he “wants” Joe elected hit him the wrong way, as in Clinton doesn’t live in Connecticut, so who is he to announce who he “wants elected” to an audience of CT voters?
That’s an angle I hadn’t even considered, but leave it to JoZo’s tin-eared staff not to notice the hint of imperiousness.
If the robo-call is the same as the ad, and they play the ad over and over on teevee, there’s a chance that part will begin to bother people.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/nedlamont/200997723/
Did a bit more research and found, via the LamontBlog, more info about *the photo*. Says c all rights reserved, but doesn’t give the photographer. But, it does say it was taken today.
This photo is public it now says!!!!
Great post, Jane; stunning picture. It reminds me of Bobby Kennedy again. Until Lamont, the last time I walked precincts was on that June primary day in Oakland, 1968. I’ll be in Ct. next weekend.
The AP has a more favorable take on Lamont/Lieberman, by David Espo, in case you missed it. I think this link works if you can access yahoo.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/200…..0bQ–
I wonder if Jane took it?
I’m blown away by that photo. I don’t think I’ve seen a politician with black people since Clinton. Sad but true.
I remember seeing the Temps and Four Tops on Broadway and they had a segment where they pulled audience members onto the stage. I know Maxine can do a mean electric slide…what do you think Joe can do? I’m sure if we can get him to dance the election will go to Ned. Just sayin’

And Ned sells himself SO well in public. He has blue eyes as blue as his shirt. He is handsome and young and full of energy and passion. He makes Lieberman look like the old washed out clown that he is.
We need to get him out in front of people as much as we can. Help organize an event in your town if you live in CT.
OT – kinda, sorta but headline news to we central California left coasters
At least we won’t have to fret that ole Jo-Ho will be hugging Big Guy Bill anytime soon, err.. at least in the coming week.
Bill and Hill are here on our fog-enshouded Monterey coast in Pebble Beach as guests of Rupert Murdoch and his Fox News Corporation along with Israeli Vice Premier Shimon Peres, L.A. Police Chief Wm. J. Bratton and other worthies. This if the first News Corp summit since 1998, according to the LATimes. Former V.P. Al Gore is also expected to attend.
Bono will give a keynote address titled “The Power of One” according to the same LAT report.
Am about to don my dear late Daddy’s trusty Burberry (hat tip to our intrepid Jane) and head out into the fog and mist to see what else may be cooking this weekend on this rarified midsummer left coastal weekend.
Ooooppps, almost forgot to mention the timing is remarkable and/or defines the word ironic in light of our nearby esteemed Monterey Institute of International Studies scheduled speech early tomorrow evening in the campus auditorium by the leader of Palestine.
And Win or Lose, this Race hopefully has scared the crap out of those DLC Dems who ride the Center lane because they don’t have the guts to stick with the Party of the People!
Great, Bergs! I just emailed Trueworthy to offer whatever he needs that I can do.
Woohoo, Anne H — you and Hutch’s Burberry GOT IT GOIN’ ON!
Jane writes:
“I know for myself that win or lose, making the choice to come here and be a part of this is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made and I know it’s something I’m going to remember for the rest of my life.”
You’ve earned it, and you’ve earned my admiration, Jane. I am just floored by this.
orangejumpsuit @ 55:
Wake up Joe, you’re in the Nutmeg State, not in the Bible.
Well, he’s the one who went and said at one of his umpteen church stumping events that “America is a faith-based institution…”
Oh, ember — sorry — almost forgot to tell you: zen’s OK but her motherboard is fried. Somebody offered to lend/send her a spare IBook (I think it was), so let’s hope it’s on its way to her now, so she’ll be on her way back to us!
For those who missed it (prior thread may have linked to this), Glenn Greenwald quotes Joe Lieberman back to him on how important Iraq is, while complaining now in the primary that folks should be focused on other issues and not be preoccupied with the disaster.

That’s a wonderful picture of Ned. It reminds me me of Robert Kennedy during his meteoric presidential campaign in ‘68, Perhaps the sense of noblesse oblige has not completely disappeared among the privileged classes of America. In the current American political system, with cash such an important factor, we can only hope for it, and work to support it whenever it may be made manifest.
I don’t know if anyone has mentioned this article from today’s NYT:
“Senator Takes to the Road as His Primary Rival Focuses on Schiavo Stance”
I can’t post it or link to it because it’s proprietary, but I found this bit amusing:
“And after weeks of being dogged by a papier-mache float and buttons depicting President Bush planting a kiss on the senator, the campaign responded with its own image of affection: buttons featuring Mr. Clinton embracing Mr. Lieberman.”
Are they sure it wasn’t Mr. Lieberman embracing Mr. Clinton?
I just signed up for Ned’s Family, Friends and Neighbors. I know one person in Connecticut and it turns out she is a Republican – as I assumed. So not knowing anyone else, I looked up my own name. I was surprised to find someone sharing my name and she is registered as a Democrat! Yea!!
I sent a postcard as a Democrat from South Dakota who shares her name, asking that she support Ned.
I have to admit, this was kind of fun.
OMG M/VG – so happy you’re back. i’ve missed you.
old sow, mary jane, and i were hoping to see you in maine.
maybe next summer.
welcome home girl.
“I know for myself that win or lose, making the choice to come here and be a part of this is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made and I know it’s something I’m going to remember for the rest of my life.”
I was thinking today about what you’re doing up there. I’ll admit to missing your comments on other things. You’ve got a bit of monomania right now. But it’s in the service of a ‘real’ cause and it’s beginning to look like it may work. It’s already a raging success, and it may turn into a gargantuan amazing colassal accomplishment.
Given what’s gone on in your own life recently, it’s something of a testimonial to what was passed on to you. You certainly have the admiration of your readers down here in the Repugnican South [though, we did get Reed!].
Maxine Waters is the bravest, gentlest, warmest, most wonderful Congresswoman I ever hope to meet !
lotus -142 WooHoo right back at-cha honey pie. My visit inside the gates to Pebble yielded nothing of note – hardly a soul on the roads – cold wet fog here, there and everywhere – save one lone greenskeeper I saw wandering across the putting green at Spyglass looking wet and forlorn, poor fellow.
PKC -149 lovely creative work and thanks for making me grin from ear to ear – are you anywhere near Lead, S.D. I heard Homestake Mine closed some years ago – darn it – still looking for their archives repository if it even exists.
Here is the NYTimes LAMONT endorsment for you.
seriously epu’d here – but
this is one hell of a photograph. (hell for lieberman).
it’s a still image but it has a sense of motion, time, place, and voice. it’s epic and truly dramatic – cinematic.
people should see this!! can it be made into an ad? wish i had the funds to do it.
jane, you’re doing the good work girl – thank you so much for being there and making the difference.
and a hearty thank you too to the honorable maxine waters !
Something about not eating Hadassah…
Selfish is okay, though.
Eli @73…
Argh!!!!!
I just got back from New Haven. The crowd was 45,000 strong and I literally saw nobody with a Lieberman sticker, but I saw PLENTY of Lamont stickers. The kiss-mobile was driving around the New Haven Green, getting plenty of attention. But what struck me the most were the kids trying to hand out Lieberman fliers and stickers; they were getting few, if any , takers. At one point there was a conga line of Lieberman volunteers trying to get some love, but nobody was buying their wares. This is going to get very interesting!
Jane:
Late but heartfelt – thank you for all you’re doing.
Go Ned!
FYI: I just sent this letter to editor of the Currant.
As an observer of Connecticut politics from long distance since 1986 (our son took his undergraduate degree in Connecticut), I understand that the state’s Democratic voters are poised to reject Mr. Lieberman on August 8th.
As a Democrat who supported Mr. Lieberman for VP, I have been disappointed by his recent votes. It’s the war, but also the failure of the Homeland Security legislation he helped to draft. FEMA has not worked well in the new mega-agency. It was his Alito vote, which was not a vote for women. It’s his ongoing support for wars in the Middle East. And it’s his contributions from and his wife’s association with pharmaceutical companies. Perhaps that’s why he has voted for health care programs that don’t work for regular folks in Connecticut?
As a long-distance observer, I hold a different perspective, and well understand why a majority of Democrats are saying it is time for a new senator for Connecticut.
Hey VG is it you? Like Susan says, rendezvous? If not this year, next? MJ
the Courant endorsed Bush in 2000 and 2004 — now they endorse Lieberman — quelle surprise!
holy mackrel. a double post is the second an improvement?
how do you spell that fish anyway?
Hey valleygirl/m
Welcome back – I’m so glad to see you here again!
Anne Holliday at 153 – Homestake was bought by Barrick Gold, as I recall. I am sure they, being the good corporate citizens have maintained the archives in good order (snark-snark-snark). The mine closed several years ago and now the state is attempting to turn the old mine into a lab.
I am in Rapid City and would be happy to do a little checking around for you, if that would be helpful. I thought the mine donated some materials to an organization in Lead.
What exactly are you hoping to find?

I am so grateful to Maxine Waters for her leadership and energy and inspiration. That she is on the ground, knocking on doors, in the height of the summer heat, makes me love her even more. Too bad Clinton and Boxer didn’t follow her example. Thanks to Jane for her exciting report from the field.
New York Times endorsing Lamont. Yubba, dubba, doo.
Jane — suggestion to forward to the Campaign Manager.
Take the Times Editorial, paste up with a Masthead, get a printer to put on a union bug and the necessary disclaimer, and rip and roll the reprints.
Then — get Bill Hillsman to let the Candidate and the Manager review the ad he did for Paul Wellstone in 1990 when we got both the Strib and the Pioneer Press endorsement. If I remember rightly we had the old green bus piled with rolled up newspapers, and Paul was flinging them on to doorsteps — flinging his endorsements mind you…with great joy. Voice over was a few quotes from the editorial endorsements. I think it was 30 seconds, and it was placed in the break during the serious part of the late news.
The Editorial can be dropped in parts of the state where Times subs are pretty common.
(Just suggestions mind you — You all doing great.)
Oh yea — last night I got a call for our Sept Primary touting someone I know who is running against the endorsed candidate for Congress. I was delighted to tell the caller that the candidate was a member of the Democratic Leadership Council — and I would never vote for someone with that identification. Quick Hang-up.
I hope that the people have the heart and ELECT NED LAMONT we sure can use him in the senate that way we will have TWO real DEMOCRATS in the SENATE RUSS FIENGOLD AND NED LAMONT. AND IN THE HOUSE WE HAVE A COUPLE M. WATERS, J. CONYERS, D. KUCINICH, and a few more.
The thing that has really impressed me about Lamont and his crowd is that he has conducted himself throughout like a true gentleman who has respect for our electoral institutions.
Re the Lamont pic atop this post, I know that there are very few people of color in the FDL community so I thought I’d just throw in a quick, perhaps obvious comment: It’s a great pic because of Ned’s strong body language (i.e. “Striding Forward with Courage and Confidence, Taking Charge in the Streets”), but the racial angle should not be overplayed.
Needless to say, we minorities have very sensitive antennae when it comes to racial power relations. So many white politicians use people of color as campaign props that there’s a certain weariness about such images. People of color are looking for leaders who relate to and serve the community, and we can sniff out the cynical, opportunistic patronizers (obviously, Dubya is the worst ever in this matter). Personally, I feel that overplaying this pic would have a slight edge of white messianic condescension (i.e. “White Man Leading the Dusty Masses Out Of the Ghetto and Into The Light”).
Just a minor, somewhat marginal opinion.
Anyway, Jane’s tireless work on the Lamont campaign is nothing short of awesome. As a CT resident, I’m excited as hell about what’s happening.
Peace.
good comment, Kai — this blog tends to be ‘white’, not racist but not strongly cognizant of some minority interests and/or orientations. That pic in here is a good reminder of the need for special style of work in some minority communities.
