Ha
I pretty much always have to go with Jett. Mmm…
Always a bridesmaid…
Ned!
Joan!
Jane!
Kobe!
Corrrections!!!
I gotta vote for Jett. I’ll throw out Heart’s “Crazy on You” as a second runner-up.
Yeah I’m a big Joan Jett fan myself. But in that Suzy Quattro video you can see how much Joan got from her (which she freely admits — Joan Jett is Suzy Quattro’s biggsst fan).
Jett. I must always endorse women associated with the aerospace industry.
At least the choices tonite don’t include that mind-scrambling Numa Numa.
Went to sleep with it playing over and over in my head, and sure ‘nuf, it was still there when I woke up. *g*
God I love woman who rock. I’ll go with Joan.
Suzy. Always had a soft spot for her.
I gotta vote for Jett. I’ll throw out Heart’s “Crazy on You” as a second runner-up.
And then there’s this…
Ohhhh, Billmon has gone all hinky on war crimes again –
http://billmon.org/archives/002589.html
And if you hurry, you can see the WB in all it’s center justified glory!

One blogger’s analysis of the poll results in the CT Senate race.
Joan.
But Suzie’s OK too, despite her role as “Leather Tuscadero”.
At least the choices tonite don’t include that mind-scrambling Numa Numa.
Went to sleep with it playing over and over in my head, and sure ‘nuf, it was still there when I woke up. *g*
This is one of my favorite earworms.
Leather Tuscadero!
Jett—
Almost makes the Hep C worth it—-
However, Bogota still is etched in my psyche–
For a sec I thought I misspelled her name – And I did. But so did Jane. :D
It’s “Suzi”.
Eli – I actually really like that tune! and, it has badgers! I finally got my new phone in the mail today, and I am trying to figure out how to make that my new ring ring sound.
[insert “need no stinking badgers” joke here]
Suzy, tho Joan did alright with a vocal range of about 5 notes.
I finally got my new phone in the mail today, and I am trying to figure out how to make that my new ring ring sound.
I have a ringtone of the original unspeeded-up version, but it’s just not the same.
Sorry Jane, can’t dig that primitive two-chord Suzy Quattro stuff. It’s all attitude and leather and not much music. Too bad the ‘roll’ has been lost from rock n’ roll.
Arrgh! I thought it was Suzi, but I thought ya’ll must be correct and just went with it! Can I ever trust you again???
Eli at 15:
“earworms”
Aaaaaggghhh!!! Don’t be bringin’ up those critters.
I don’t remember the title or author of the tale, but after reading it in school, I had nightmares as a kid about those things.
BTW, I thought they were called earwigs? *g*
Damn VictorLaszio,
I automatically typed “Suzi” and thought I was wrong and went back to correct.
Thanks for getting it right.
No one argue as I am holding “Rock Hard” LP right now.
Two women who rock, in entirely different ways:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EcbpShbBtNc

can get OT slightly since it is late night, and a little slow? I need help with a catchy blogspot name, need to move my work to a new place. I promise not to blogwhore! Blogslut, perhaps, but not blogwhore.
ccmask, left you a cool photo link in EPU-land.
ohmyblog
better yet …
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v…..ch=alannah myles
none of the videos quite capture the pure … essence … was that the word … of Alanna live
only other woman I’ve seen that “essential” live was Janis
I will *not* be the one to post a Lita Ford video, BTW.
sherocket at 27:
Given your handle, how about something like http://www.redglare.com?
As Glenn would say, “What would a Patriot do?”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v…..arch=Texas Tornados
Hey baby, que paso?
Just for you younger firepups… to explain my Heart comment… Back when the video below was recorded, there weren’t many (if any) well known female guitarists. The sound quality sucks but you can see it ain’t just power chords. http://tinyurl.com/mtrw4
none of the videos quite capture the pure … essence … was that the word … of Alanna live
only other woman I’ve seen that “essential” live was Janis
Oh my. She seems… predatory.
Mad Dogs – I like it, but somebody already has it, looks like.
Eli 31 — bless you.
Hey, Jane, say Hi to Matt.
Maybe he can give you some tips on the whole crowd-estimating thing, to avoid further embarassing miscounts when covering the Leiberman campaign. Boys are good with numbers.
RGJoe: Count his supporters each day on two hands!
Mad Dogs – I like it, but somebody already has it, looks like.
Alas, I know the feeling. My very first choice was “The Evil Midnight Blogger What Blogs At Midnight” (and I planned to *only* blog at midnight), but it was taken.
Suzy or Joan?
Neither.
PATTI SMITH. HORSES.

I think this piece of performance Art from this summer in London is fantastic. What a beautiful wonderful show all paid for by tax dollars by the way.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v…..arch=giant girl
The name of the company is Royal De Lux. The song is Elephant Walk.
I could try to go for “der Fledermaus” then . . .
Joan Jett, no question about it.
Sorry, but the music band left this grandma at the busstop. I am still back in the 60’s folk music. I secretly listened to Elvis. And have a collection of old Elvis’ gospel music.
So I will just ride along for awhile. And here’s hoping that CT dem voters really are keeping track of what is going on. My wish for a blow to the DLC are beyond urgent — but are party saving.
Jett.
Ghostman
Eli….predatory but her victims would be grateful, eh?
also worth a view, her hit here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v…..ch=alannah myles
seeing her live, there was a sense of celebrating strong woman’s sexuality that made everyone smile a lot
I also like Siouxsie.
Take your pick, flapper or goth Barbarella.
Eli….predatory but her victims would be grateful, eh?
I’m always grateful.
medaka … thanks for the reminder…Patti Smith energy … overwhelming … saw her live with my ex-h and he was terrified of her…
needless to say, I was not
though at times I was terrified *for* her… such raw emotion …phew!
“stinkingbadgers” is available. a possibility.
and, “charcoalbriquettes”, a fave, is possible.
and the question of do I care if somebody who is too interested in disrupting what I do finds it/comments, etc.
and, a propos, a badge of my Mtv generation-ness,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HuOhUa5GxA0
What about Tanita Tikaram?
I like this one better -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12LFc9ANdms
I got in a huge arguement with Siouxsie once. She is a sparky one. We both laughed in the end and had a beer.
and, a propos, a badge of my Mtv generation-ness,
I’ve posted this before, but I think this video totally captures the soul of the 80s.
my dial-up is voting a tie, since I am still downloading. so far, both have a good beat and i can dance to them
OK I can see you all are caught up in this 60’s rock thing but when you get a chance check this out you will be amazed…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v…..arch=giant girl
This post got me wondering what ever became of Joan Armatrading, and I see she’s still going strong. I Saw her at the Roxy in Hollywood in the mid 70’s. Good show.
ahh. the eighties clothes my mom would never let me buy, even when I got taller than my sisters and pre-emptively outgrew the hand-me-downs.
Suzanne – My orange juice cans need new string too.
Jett, but I still miss Janis
Janis Joplin, Maybe
she still brings a tear to my eye…
GrandmaJ, for you:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v…..earch=pete seeger
TeddySF 38, Joe can’t afford to be taking his socks off to count his crowds, his feet are too stinky.
dammit, oc, that one’s dayam near my favorite janis every. i’m going to be sitting here all night downloading on dial-up.
sherocket,
Tanita, what a voice!
On the subject of female rockers…
I’m older now (too old, dammit) and happily married but… who could forget Marin County in 1968, Janis Joplin, Southern Comfort, Acapulco gold? Certainly not me.
And medaka at 40 — yeah Patti Smith is something else, and surprisingly sweet and shy actually but my all time fave of recent years was always Chrissy Hynde. There’s something about that habit of mixing hash with tobacco you pick up in England. Plus she’s a great singer, a real rocker and a hell of a songwriter.
Chrissie Hynde. I rest my case.
Second on Chrissy Hynde.
afterthought – hat tip to Eli, I hadn’t thought of that song in years, but it is really something
both. and janis still brings a tear to my eye as well.
Gotta go with Janis.
Leather Tuscadero!
Warm Leatherette!
But if you want to check out more women who rock, try Yeah Yeah Yeah’s Karen O and Wata of Boris – she can slay you while standing still.
Gotta go with Joan, ’cause she loves rock and roll.
If you crossed Mad Max, Jules Verne, with a French performance artist you get a giant elephant with an equally Giant little Girl and about a Million people in Central London. No it aint rock and rool but it is amazing.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v…..arch=giant girl
And let us not forget k d lang.
Eli: Thanks!
How about Bryan Adams and Tina Turner- It’s Only Love?

she still brings a tear to my eye…
Me too, but for my own reasons. Everyone who knew her understood she was a tragedy waiting to happen.
I always gotta run with Joan. Yeah, that Leather Tuscadero thing was a bit jump the sharkie before the Foz actually did. :)
Now this chick rocks poignantly:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lyp5we2ySDo
How about Bryan Adams and Tina Turner- It’s Only Love?
Tina rocks, but Bryan Adams is pure ick for me…
Suzanne – if you REALLY want to spend a lot of time downloading, Janis at Woodstock:
unbelievable Janis!
about 7 and a half minutes of processor over-heatin’ Janis…
Okay some Suzy love in the house tonight. I was talking with TRex today and he said his favorite Suzy song was…”(Someone Else’s) Lipstick!” Which happens to be my favorite Suzy song, and I couldn’t even find a CD that contained it.
Now that’s a rather obscure commonality.
Which happens to be my favorite Suzy song, and I couldn’t even find a CD that contained it.
Do you need a copy?
Morris Sheppard – I understand, but talent like that doesn’t always come in a whole healthy package…
I try to hold her gently – flaws and all… she was a Great Gift.
Yeah, but its a great video.
siun 49
Glad you enjoyed the Patti. When I was 17 I couldn’t decide whether I wanted to be Patti Smith or David Bowie. I settled for somewhere in between …
Did you see her recently, or back in the 70s? I caught her in Osaka a few years ago, first time in many many years, and she still has it …
I have to go with Janis as my all time favorite, and in keeping with the season

I recall reading about a site that lets you upload any MP3 and turn it into a ringtone, but I don’t remember the details. You might be able to find it with Google.
Ok, while we’re on the subject of great girl songs and singers I humbly present for your approval …
Christina Amphlett of the Divinyls “I Touch Myself”
Defintely Suzy.

adding summertime and woodstock to the list.
please let there not be turtle blues or i need a man to love u-tube. i am so regretting this dialup.
How about Bryan Adams and Tina Turner- It’s Only Love?
Tina Turner proved how women improve with age and freedom. However, I’d surely go with “What’s Love” over that one.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ia4stir_uk8
ever wonder why “Tattoed Loved Boys” from the first Pretenders album leaves you kind of off balance? It’s in 15/8 time or some equivalent thereof (an eight beat measure follwed by a seven beat measure), so you can’t find a simple 1-2-3-4 groove. It makes it seem hurried and frantic, as if every other measure arrives too soon.
Sly but important element of the song, pretty sophisticated for pop-new wave with an edge. Not unlike Brubeck’s “Blue Rondo a la Turk” which vacillates between 9/8 and 4/4 time (OK, that’s a stretch of a comparison, but it’s for reference).
OldCoastie at 83
I understand, but talent like that doesn’t always come in a whole healthy package…
Yeah. I don’t come in a whole healthy package, and I don’t even have that kind of talent.
Youtube is a regular cornucopia of Joan Jett:
Crimson And Clover
Bad Reputation
Suzy, definitely.

This thread is not very conducive to opera but I feel duty bound to present some (and it’s all I know, lol). In Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra, the dad, sung by the incomparable Piero Cappuccilli, has been separated from his daughter (sung by Mirella Freni) since her birth. In this scene, they discover their relationship about half way through. “The moment” is at 5:20 when the daughter checks out the locket that proves it.
This scene is one of Verdi’s most beautiful and emotional. He had a special feeling for fathers and daughters that is profoundly affecting. Have a box of Kleenex handy.

Oh, and I vote for Jett.
Morris Sheppard – if you haven’t watched the Woodstock link, you might enjoy it… I’d bet you’d even forgive her ;-)

Geez Louise! 15/8 time sounds positively scizophrenic.
medaka – I saw her when Horses first came out … my ex and I were spending a lot of time at CBGBs and Max’s and then a lot of people came to CT to perform including Smith who did a concert at a small theatre in Westport … felt like the place was going to burn down … around the same time the Ramones actually played a tiny club in Norwalk and we were the whole audience … it was rather wonderful
but Patti Smith just vibrated everything …
ccmask @ 10:03 pm (#76) – This is much better than the studio version.n I think they both worked better in front of an audience.
Here’s another badass female vocalist.
Geez Louise! 15/8 time sounds positively schizophrenic.
more typical of King Crimson or Yes, but it works (on second thought – it’s been a while since I listened to it – it may be 7/8 time [4 plus 3] which is not quite as obscure but still leaves you hanging.)
OldCoastie
From your nick, OldCoastie, as in old enough to have been around then and on the coast, I wonder if you ever met Janis. As for Woodstock tapes, I’ve seen them all many, many times but maybe I’ll take a gander.
Eli – rockin’ the house
Morris … another good reminder, the Divinyls! merci!
and touched by your Janis comment … I only saw her once but will never forget
there’s that combustion when certain performers simply walk on stage and you know … immediately … that you are going to be knocked over just from the energy they give off … and nodding to Op, my classical example would be watching Norrington walk out to conduct the London Classical Players … you just know you are in for it … phew!
my youtubes are blocked!
and nodding to Op, my classical example would be watching Norrington walk out to conduct the London Classical Players … you just know you are in for it … phew!
His version of Beethoven’s 9th is the only one I can listen to…
Eli, poor dead Karen. What a waste. She did have a beautiful pure voice.
Anyone remember Elastica?
phew -
this is not a woman badass rocker, nor is it good to dance to, just a song I had been yearning for, and only just found on youtube today.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R1z4IJc9fNk
Patti Smith is an icon like no other.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1GoDhEpXuU
Because the Night, with Sara Mclaughlin, who’s very good live I’m add.
I have say I was fortunate enough to see Michael Stipe sing this with Bruce Springsteen on the Vote for Change tour.
this is not a woman badass rocker, nor is it good to dance to, just a song I had been yearning for, and only just found on youtube today.
Well, if we’re going in that direction…
Morris – nope, never met her… just a fan from the very first moment… (and I’m not easily won over)
‘night firepups – thanks for all the great music – early day tomorrow…
nellie didn’t hit my mood tonight, but I have to like any song with the line “Nellie the elephant packed her trunk”

Gotta love the nerd/punk energy.

How come? BTW, I usually enjoy your youtube selections, keep ‘em coming.
Billie: Gloomy Sunday, have Prozac handy.

whig-guy – that one is more on the mark.
how ’bout the singer from Romeo Void (”Never Say Never”) and Exene Cervenka from X
How come? BTW, I usually enjoy your youtube selections, keep ‘em coming.
Thanks! The Norrington version sounds leaner and cleaner and brighter and crisper to me. All the other versions I’ve heard sound sluggish and bloated.
Bear in mind, the pool of classical music that I like is rather small, so I’m really not an authority here.
What you didn’t like Giant Elephants and puppets?
What you didn’t like Giant Elephants and puppets?
I did! Had to send it to my girlfriend, who is already convinced I’m mad.
Well that should cinch it.
Probably not exactly badass, but another personal favorite.
I like giant girls and elephants just fine (althought they will never prove any of that stuff – settled out of court). Just gloomy, taking down everything under my old blogspot spot and ditching the old handle I wrote and performed under for about five years.
need this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYPv1TWVbLI
Not even close — Quatro. Jett’s performance is a little too Billy Idol for me. Also, Quatro has a cooler name.
I second whoever said Siouxsie. Also Jeannette Kantzalis of the Chubbies and A Brokeheart Pro.
more typical of King Crimson or Yes, but it works (on second thought – it’s been a while since I listened to it – it may be 7/8 time [4 plus 3] which is not quite as obscure but still leaves you hanging.)
OMG, I loved Yes when I was a teenager and I also had a King Crimson album. Court of the Crimson King, if I remember correctly.
However, I never found anything remotely strange about Yes’ syncopation. Yes was one of my top five groups in the 70’s.
From the last album I bought of theirs “Tale from Topographical Oceans”
The Revealing Science of God
Dawn of light lying between a silence and sold sources,
Chased amid fusions of wonder, in moments hardly seen forgotten,
Coloured in pastures of chance dancing leaves cast spells of challenge,
Amused but real in thought, we fled from the sea whole.
Dawn of thought transfered through moments of days undersearching earth
Revealing corridors of time provoking memories, disjointed but with purpose,
Craving penetrations offer links with the self instructors sharp
And tender love as we took to the air, a picture of distance.
Dawn of our power we amuse redescending as fast as misused
Expression, as only to teach love as to reveal passion chasing
Late into corners, and we danced from the ocean.
Dawn of love sent within us colours of awakening among the many
Won’t to follow, only tunes of a different age.
As the links span our endless caresses for the freedom of life everlasting.
Talk to the sunlight caller
Soft summer mover distance mine.
Called out a tune but I never saw the face
Heard but not replaced
I ventured to talk, but I never lost my place
Cast out a spell rendered for the light of day
Lost in lights array
I ventured to see, as the sound began to play
What happened to this song we once knew so well
Signed promise for moments caught within the spell
I must have waited all my life for this
Moment moment
The future poised with the splendour just begun
The light we were as one
And crowded through the curtains of liquid into sun
And for a moment when our world had filled the skies
Magic turned our eyes
To feast on the treasure set for our strange device
What happened to wonders we once knew so well
Did we forget what happened surely we can tell
We must have waited all our lives for this
Moment moment moment
Starlight, movement, reasons
Release forward
Tallest rainbow
Sun shower seasons
Life flower reasons
They move fast, they tell me,
But I just can’t believe that I can feel it
There’s someone to tell you,
Amid the challenge we look around in unison with you
Getting over overhanging trees
Let them rape the forest
Thoughts would send our fusion
Clearly to be home
Getting over wars we do not mean
Or so it seems so clearly
Sheltered with our passion
Clearly to be home
They move fast, they tell me,
But I just can’t believe they really mean to
There’s someone, to tell you,
And I just can’t believe our song will leave you
Skyline teacher
Warland seeker
Send out poison
Cast iron leader
And through the rhythm of moving slowly
Sent through the rhythm work out the story
Move over glory to sons of old fighters past.
Young christians see it from the beginning
Old people feel it, that’s what they’re saying.
Move over glory to sons of old fighters past.
I’m hot. I’m sweaty. I have to take a shower and go to bed and I’ll leave with one final thought.
Ned must win! Now that national attention has been drawn to this race it is of paramount importance and will shape the party for years to come.
The primary in Connecticut — This time it’s personal.
Ok how about this just for the shock value, Ronald Reagan and Dinah Washington. Aggghhhhhh. To little Dinah always to much Ronnie, that’s sums up this countries troubles in nutshell.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v…..arch=dinah washington
Eli – yes, exactly.
Just watched the McCoughlin Group, you know for kicks and tv target practice. Blankley and Zuckerman thought Lieberman was a certain win in the primary and used dated statistics and info supporting themselves. Buchanan gave Lamont a 33 percent chance of winning in Nov. and looked like he believed the chances were better than 33 percent. Lux thought Lieberman had a golden parachute and would win both the primary and in November.
What’s up with Pat and his left footing?
SharonW
However, I never found anything remotely strange about Yes’ syncopation. Yes was one of my top five groups in the 70’s.
anything with Bill Buford drumming was bound to get veer from 4/4 eventually. Although now that you mention it, he was more about cross-rhythms layered on top of basic beats.
one of the best jazz-fusion drummers, believe it or not, (IMHO) was Phil Collins with Brand X.
sherocket – Gorillaz, indeed. I’m partial to “Kids with Guns” (the song, not the concept)
Another one of my favorite videos ever.
Features what I believe to be The Greatest Dance Move Of All Time just a second or two after the 3-minute mark.
piaf
Punaise-
I love ‘Kids With Guns,’ too. Have you watched the Gorillaz ‘live’ from Manchester Opera House DVD yet? It is Awesome. Yes, I meant to capitalize the awesome.
Have to go now but I will leave you with Django and Stephan The Quintent Hot Club Of France.

Dan “The Automator” Nakamura plus the guy from Blur (?) – quite a melange
Jill Sobule!
I want candy.
No, really. I want Candy.
Jill Sobule!
One of my softball friends went to see her when she came to Pittsburgh. She wore a t-shirt that said “My Bush would make a better president.”
Op99 – Norrington took on the whole Beethoven industry and insisted that his works should be played as close as possible to his original intention. The Players play early instruments or superb reproductions and the tempo is much more … lively!
Norrington also decided that we were no longer hearing the 9th – that it had become such a cliche that we were no longer able to hear it so… he began a series of tours where he would present a full weekend of Beethoven designed to let us hear the 9th again fully … Fri pm the players performed music that influenced Beethoven, Sat there were workshops on related music, lectures, dance from the time, etc and then Sat night, an open rehearsal with Norrington explaining what he was after … lots of fun as well as info, then Sun a rather quiet brunch with Melvin Tan playing sonatas … and the finish was the full performance of the Ninth in all its glory … an astonishing experience … simply astonishing.
I also happen to love Norrington’s version of the 2nd which almost made me run off the road the first time I heard it … wow!
Pearl Harbor and the Explosions
Punaise-
Dirty Harry is one of the best performances- they have a children’s choir, and the kids are all having the BEST time singing and dancing. Also, DARE is great, because you can tell the hometown crowd is totally pulling for the Reverend Shaun Ryder. He’s scary, but manages to bring it. Rosie Wilson’s vocal is great, too.
What’s up wit all da links…

siun 141, interesting, I’ll check it out. Although I’ve had no trouble appreciating Beethoven as currently interpreted, lol.
Thanks for the Bonnie Tyler, sherocket. Goodnight.
you want bad-ass? how ’bout Nina Simone….
sure, smith and hynde and divinyls and suzy and siouxsie and janis and even piaf and holiday.
but how can you talk about jett and bring up ford without mentioning this?

Too bad he turned Genesis into a Vegas lounge act, after Gabriel left.
whig-guy @ 11:17 pm (#152) – First time I saw the ocver of one of Diana Krall’s albums I assumed she wasn’t any good. When they look like cover girls nowadays that’s usually a good assumption.
Looks like I was wrong, though. She doesn’t have a great voice, but she can do a lot with it.
Too bad he turned Genesis into a Vegas lounge act, after Gabriel left
yep, you got that right. Uggh to post-Gabriel Genesis.
Cujo et al:
I was very lucky to meet Diana at Jazz at the Bistro in St. Louis many years ago. She is very shy and sweet in person and just a wonderful Jazz pianist. I do love her voice, I think it is sexy. She doe’s look like Elvis Presely in person though. ( Its a lip thing) She is a Little Jazz Bird! To each his own.
Madeleine Peyroux channeling Billie Holliday
I’m enjoying all the songs, some are really bringing me back. How are you finding time to type at all? lol
whig-guy @ 11:52 pm (#162) – Agree that about her voice – it’s at a pitch that makes most men take notice. She seems to be a good piano player, but I’m not much of a judge.
Joan Jett, no question.
Can you do one w/ The Donnas next week? : )
JQ
Female Voices hmmm
punaise mentions a great former Berkeley resident iirc. Ms. Nina Simone, rip. I think Black Is The Color, is my favorite song of hers but my favorite album would probably be Pastel Blue.
For range in vocals, Ima Sumac.
Blues Bonnie Raitt and Rory Block
Diana Krall bores.me.to.tears.
She used to have a great guitarist in her band though, Russell Malone.
ok – finished lame stuff.
time for an awesome female singer -

there
Sherocket … Emily Lou is a gem
and with that, I best get sleep
‘nite all!
sherocket @ 12:20 am (#171) – Saw Emmylou many years ago at the Seattle Center. Needless to say, she was terrific.
Emmylou is the queen. Seen her many times. Cujo, was that show in 1986 at the old opera house? I was there…Dwight Yoakam opened for her.
shoephone @ 12:33am – It was around that time, but it was out on the mall near the exhibition halls. I think it was during a Bumbershoot.
saw emmylou several times in the 80’s around the SF Bay Area. the pureness of her voice just isn’t truely captured in her recordings.
Did you see her a couple of years ago for the “Stumble Into Grace” tour? Awesome. With Buddy Miller.
she is one of the artists I listen to that I can’t stand to sing along with. her voice is too beautiful to trample with my amateurish yelling.
“…with my amatuerish yelling.”
!
(you could always resort to professional yelling)
to keep it pure, to keep it really about the yelling, you can’t sell out and go pro . . .
I love FDL because of all the great work you and your brothers and sisters in arms do for us, but both Suzy and Joan has gots ta go!
If you want to play some hard rockin’ chicks who actually do some hard rockin’, play The Donnas. All will then be forgiven.
I’ve seen Emmy just about everywhere in California… and she never disappoints.
Here’s an old song, from a long way back
I never saw her perform, sadly (yet), but met her when she came in Capitol Studios with her main squeeze at the time, Daniel Lanois. Both were extremely nice, although I spent much more time with him you know, actually working.
And we did one Yoakam album while I worked there, “Gone.”
It’s about pumpkin time for me. Goodnite, all.
Gram and Emmylou. priceless. She’s hilariously young and gawky! I love it.
Okay babes. Dwight singing (black and white Tele) Gram

Bonne nuit, Cujo.
done fiddling with my new spot, probably need to sleep now for real. good night and sweet dreams, y’all
later, sherocket
Jeez, I just realized you’re in L.A. too.
‘nite all. time to let my poor dial-up recover from you-tube.
Joan.
But also:
Pat Benatar: Heartbreaker and Hit Me With Your Best Shot.
It’s probably a good thing most eveybody’s going to sleep. I just read this horrible story about shootings in Seattle today. Insanity. Jews and Muslims in Seattle usually get along really well.
The world has truly gone to hell in a handbasket.

Honestly, I think JJ and SQ both sucked.
Exena Cervenka (sp?) of X was far better than either of them.
Joan!
Murtha!
Exena Cervenka (sp?) of X was far better than either of them.
It being the middle of the night and no one’s around to hit me, I second that emotion.
Good afternoon from Russia.
I delivered all the equipment this morning. Oh boy.
Love the CT race stuff!
Housekeeping: 290 on float phobia post is sp*m.

medaka – I saw her when Horses first came out
Lucky!! I first saw her a year later, and she was already slowing down on the long improvised “stories” (which I think can be attributed to her love of, uh, horses ….)
Trollpatrol,
141 at 10:00pm, previous thread “Correction” is very much on our side except wants us to stop using the Kiss float. AS IF!!!
I can’t even believe I’m still up.
egregious – where in Russia are you?
off to bed…
Sorry I missed “Lesbian Video Night”.
Thanks Eli for the Sophie B.
I’m still messing with the puter, it would appear tha several passwords have been changed. The NSA is really starying to bug me (all puns intended).
Gotta get some shut-eye. Night all.
Thanks for keeping the place tidy, egregious ;)
Jumping in late:
You don’t fuck with Joan Jett. I mean, ya just don’t.

Globe headline (w/edit):
“Bush sends rice back to Mideast”…
I just had to make a giggle this AM. Now, off to see what was the rest of the (latenight) story….
The Courant’s Mr. Lightman has a lengthy go at ‘following the money’ – both Jozo and Ned.
http://www.courant.com/news/po…..s-politics
the (ahem) money quote for me falls ‘after the jump’…
…”But the canyon reappeared Wednesday, as Lieberman rolled up $127,850 to Lamont’s $5,000.
Special interests. The Washington political action committee money has been pouring in for Lieberman since he began his campaign.
In the first 18 months of the 2005-06 cycle, he took in $1.24 million from political committees. He got $226,819 from finance and insurance groups, $104,000 from labor, $102,500 from health care interests and $102,121 from retail and services business, according to Political Moneyline.
In the first part of July, they continued to give. Among the donors: Bristol-Myers Squibb, Phoenix Companies, the Bond Market Association, the Real Estate Roundtable, AFLAC, Qwest, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Citigroup, Honeywell International, Credit Suisse and the National Society of Accountants.
Since the daily reports began July 20, he has received checks of $1,000 or more from the political arms of the Mashantucket Pequots, Fannie Mae, the Chicago Board of Trade, Tyco International, KPMG, the National Auto Dealers Association Eli Lilly, and others.
Lamont, on the other hand, has received about $3,500 from political committees. The Democratic Socialists of America PAC gave him $100 in June, and Democracy for America, the political committee founded by Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean and now headed by his brother Jim, has contributed more than $3,400.”…
Patti Smith did 45 min b/t sets of semi-local “Roy Ayers Ubiquity and Gratful Dead, Alumni Stadum, UMass, Amherst, Spring Concert, Mother’s Day, 1979 (unable to be absolute…DeadBAse is failing me…)
The tale of the show from this attendee is lengthy, but I know that I didn’t catch it when she fell off the stage. But I’m entranced by “Jesus Died For Somebody’s Sins…BUT NOT MINE’

Haven’t seen Wendy O. Williams mentioned. And I gather (the late, lamented) Jane Doorknocker wrote and/or cowrote the Tubes ‘Don’t Touch Me There’ That song was ‘Da Bomb’…
http://www.sfherald.com/society/society_jan02.html
..”Pumped-up and refreshed, I headed for Hollywood to interview a San Francisco icon of that wondrous decade; the early ’80’s. I’m talking about the lovely and talented Pearl Harbour. This month makes it five years since Pearl left the City of St. Francis and moved to La-La Land. Pearl was born and raised in Germany (her dad was in the army), but upon dropping out of high school she moved to San Francisco, where she entered the first ever talent contest put on by Fee Waybill’s band The Tubes. Pearl won (!) for tap-dancing (the other winner was a drag queen comic named Doris Fish). “Doris and I became good friends,” says Pearl. “She taught me everything I know about hair and makeup.”
Through The Tubes Pearl met Jane Doorknocker (her real name), who was in their touring company and co-wrote their song, “Don’t Touch Me There”. Jane was in a band/ comedy act called Leila and the Snakes (she was Leila), and asked Pearl to join the band as a back-up singer/ dancer (it lasted from ‘76 to ‘77). Pearl left the act and formed Pearl Harbor and the Explosions in ‘78, playing now-defunct clubs like Keystone Berkeley, The Old Waldorf, Mabuhay Gardens, and The Palms Cafe. The Explosions put out an independent single on 415 Records called “Drivin’”. Beverly Wilshire (”The Beaver”), a popular DJ on KSAN managed to sneak the record on the station’s rotation, even though she knew it wasn’t mainstream.”…

Speaking of Toobz, this unit is equipped w/DSL, but the poor lil CPU (233mhz) and not-really-graphics/vid processor makes me REAL particular about vid. Kinda like I still had dailup.
Tech question: If I went and used Library public access machines, can I DL vids, and burn to CD (alas, this HIGHLY dependable PowerBook predates such advanced tech…but will play CD’s.
thanks.

Oh. Double Thanks to Millineryman (?) for Janis/Summertime. I haven’t even seen it yet, but can’t wait.
Bush sends uncooked rice back to Mideast
Can’t sleep. I’m gonna play myself a lullaby. I love this it alays makes me feel better.

BK at #206 – interesting about the PAC money coming in. Maybe we should DO something and have an all right fundraiser for Ned this last week. I just got paid and was going to donate a bit this week, and will no matter what else happens, but we need to show that netroots stands behind AND beside our man Ned.
All I know about ‘X’ is what I heard on my friend’s vinyl ‘Live at the WHiskey’ – and told him I would love a *shhh* dubbed cassette. Xene Cervenka is yummy. Songs f**ing great!

Dale Bozzio invented the aluminum bra, I think.

If anyone has ‘White Rabbit’ vid link, that would be fun, methinks.
Amen amen amen to Joplin, Aretha & Armatrading! Other great pipes from certain Firepups’ yout’:

Now for my fave passages from today’s lede Courant story:
First smart move of Short Ride’s I’ve heard tell of in … well, forever.
Has Christy announced today’s Pull Up focus yet?
“I believe I’m doing better than you are,” LOL
Just did another Zogby poll, and once again found it a tad funky — see if you agree with me that the final Q hints that the client may be the DCCC.
If you wanna become a Zogby pollee, go here:

The Courant lede seems to ‘frame’ this race (the ‘lede’ sentence to the ‘lede’ story…) as Lamont voters are that crazy, shrill left-wing ‘liberal’ element.
“…to rouse the conservative and moderate Democrats he needs to fend off his surging..”
Just noting.
Otherwise, ‘I believe I’m doing bette than you are.’ quote is a sweetie indeed.
All this ‘n’ more at RawStory . . .
Good Mornin’ Morning Gang,
ok, I’ll play (advisory: The Great One does not open her mouth for the first minute & a half)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v…..arch=Maria Callas – Casta Diva
although by no means a true Operaphile, I have hours of Top Ten Arias to soothe the soul
Lotus – Yeay for Tracy Nelson !
Margot – Yeay for Texas Tornadoes !
Punaise for the props to Madeline Peyroux (the child is scary good)
and in the interest of full disclosure I should mention I am lifelong supplicant at the Church of Aretha Franklin
You know I lurve ToL’s Matthew Parris. Here’s how he begins today (ToL’s copyediting just gets worse all the time — please don’t hold that against him):

Thannks for the Zogby. Registered, but I don’t think they liked something I said, got a quick “Thank You.” that fell far forward of the Q’s you posted. Discretion prevents a guess to why.
On the plus side, I’ll get ‘insider’ email that may hit before others get updates via traditional media/means.
On the negative side is tin-foil. Certain agencies that may be observing such material. Ah, well, I spit in their face, anyway.

My Dad (an active ‘agnostic’): “The Lord hates a coward.”
Interesting, BK. Which Q preceded your “Thank you”? Maybe this was just a Florida poll?
Chrissie, even though the ads for her current tour make her look like Keith Richards.
As to the comments about Yes drumming (god knows how that topic emerged): I suspect the original poster was thinking about Alan White, not Bruford. Very different styles.

Sorry to be ‘obtuse’ but this should point to your answer:
Probably the most famous Pink Floyd song ever.
(taps foot)
New thread! http://www.firedoglake.com/200…..a-chair-7/
forgot to mention Lucinda Williams: bittersweet southern gal who pours a lot of feeling into each song. Check out “Car Wheels on a Gravel Road”.
It really looks to me-as a guitar player for 40 years-like Suzy Quattro is playing some serious air guitar. I have never ever seen anyone “play” like that.
Damn medaka…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iyf1SHKyRj4
my cymbal monkey just spontaneously combusted.
Woohoo!!!
cbl, I’m glad you liked that! I love Freddy and that whole style of music.
No comparison. That Quatro song sucks the big one, and her band-in-black-tights is no great shakes, either. The bass playing is pretty good, if that’s her doing it, but sheesh, what a Squeaky Fromme voice.
Clearly her look was influential, however. Joan did the whole thing better, of course, and her video, like the song itself, is a somewhat impressive (if still risible) snapshot of the era. I remember that there used to be a polyamorous sex cult in the Bay Area that worshiped her as a god. Anybody know what happened to them?
patti smith.
Donita Fucking Sparks!!!
