Skippy was very upset that Bill Clinton allowed Holy Joe to chuck Spazeboy and myself out of his appearance in Waterbury on Monday. Skippy is my friend and quite a gallant fellow, I must say. He left this message for Big Dog:
hello president clinton, my name is skippy the bush kangaroo, i voted for you both times when you ran for president.
i’m calling to tell you how disappointed i am that you chose to associate yourself with joe lieberman by campaigning for him yesterday. now i am not referring to his policies, but rather to the fact that his staff refused entrance to two registered democrats who had legitimate tickets to hear you speak, one of whom was a connecticut resident. their names are jane hamsher and spazeboy and they wanted very much to hear what you had to say.
while they are both active in the campaign to elect ned lamont, neither has ever disrupted a lieberman event, heckled a lieberman speech or in anyway caused problems. but since they are known to be the opposition they were excluded from seeing you and hearing your speech.
At which point Bubba’s machine hung up, but I doubt it was personal. Skippy is quite polite, all the machines say so. So he called back:
hello, president clinton, this is skippy again, calling about jane hamsher and spazeboy getting ejected from your speech for joe lieberman yesterday.
is this what the democratic party has come down to? refusing entry to a public event to citizens that happen to disagree with those in charge? that’s something that george w. bush has done throughout his administration, and there are numerous instances of people even going to jail for simply wearing an opposition button or tee shirt.
this kind of fascism is not the democratic party i know. for you to be associated with this kind of elitist exclusivity not only does not reflect well on you, but will ultimately not reflect well on your wife, sen. clinton, should she want to obtain any higher office.
I just want to add that if Bubba wants to call me and let me know he’s sorry, I’d love to talk to him. I’m sure I speak for Spazeboy here as well, Holy Joe isn’t exactly a party and we’d be happy to show him the livelier side of Connecticut.
Meanwhile, Mad Kane is writing poetry, "No Liebe for Lieberman:"
Joe Lieberman thinks he’s entitled
To votes and devotion unbridled.
But a GOP whore,
Who’s still wrong on the war,
Has to forfeit his Senator title.
And the General busies himself making fabulous graphics (above) for Joey Short Ride. Because we believe in hearing from all sides at FDL, don’t you know.

Wax Lips!
hooray for skippy! keep tellin’ ‘em what really matters!
and hooray for Jane and Spazeboy! Go Ned!
Throw wax lips from the Kiss Float! Tastier than Mardi Gras beads…
Skippy, I called Clinton yesterday and left a similar message; I hope he got loaded with voicemails. If he didn’t know what happened to Jane and Spaze before, he does now.
Ned!
Fitz!
Jesus’General!
Skippy,
that was very polite of you and I’m sure Big Dawg was very appreciative of your repectful and civil tone as well as the useful information you conveyed so earnestly.

Oh gosh
John Casper,
I forgot to FITZ
fitz, for pity’s sake, interrupted but late for the elusive zero anyway.
EPU material worth throwing into the Lake again:

He got the sound bite DOWN. Looked real SERIOUS.

Thanks for mentioning my latest political limerick, Jane!

Thanks! I didn’t realize they still existed until ccmask mentioned them.
Oh the hundreds of wax lips I chewed up when I was a kid. Yum. Bad parents. Very bad! :)
I second third and othewise endorse the Wax Lips pranking idea. The trick will be to corner the bastard in public…doesn’t seem to give much PUBLIC notice about events, appearances. And those he does, well we know how that movie goes…

Dodd shill endorsement ad just on AGAIN. Ran twice, same newscast, about a 10 min span.
Jane, why isn’t this blog more proactive? Why don’t you include links to Lamont’s family, friends and neighbors program like Kos does for example? Talking to the wind doesn’t win elections.
This blog has good traffic. Put it to good use. Focus also on congressional elections.
Coz at 3:20
I loved it!
wow, Jessica Aberan is so lucky we all got smacked down by ReddHedd on the last thread for going all snarky on k-52.
timing.
I hope everyone here at FDL and the rest of the vast ‘Lefty’ Blogosphere got the message:
‘What you think or want as a citizen doesn’t count. We inside the ‘Beltway’ are in charge. When Bush said he was the ‘Decider’ he spoke for all of us Republican and Democrat alike’, William Jefferson Clinton
This is why I submit that Democrats-in-name-only must go.
It’s the next step in the progression to a progressive America.
And it’s not too soon to start fighting for it. ‘Rape Gurney’ Joe and his pals in the Unitary Party are fighting their corner are they not?
We’ve got charge the center of the ring and knock them out if Ned is to win.
Maybe the candy shop that hosted bb and lieber yesterday would special order them in bulk for us. As with the rubber stamps, we would be supporting a woman owned biz.
TeddySanFran:
The silence is deafening. :)
Jane, why doesn’t this blog find a cure for cancer, achieve world peace, and end all suffering in the world?
It seems like yesterday
But it was long ago
Janey was lovely, she was the queen of my nights
There in the darkness with the radio playlng low
And the secrets that we shared
The mountains that we moved
Caught like a wildfire out of control
Till there was nothing left to burn and nothing left to prove
GO NED and FDL!

“Jane, why isn’t this blog more proactive?”
Jessica, you can do that. Why don’t you link to some of the stuff at Kos that you think is really good? Or any other ideas, but instead of telling Jane to do it, you show us.
“Talking to the wind doesn’t win elections.”
Have you heard of the net roots?
Do you have any idea how much time Jane, Christy, Pach and others invest in getting us to call, email, visit, write Congresscritters on a variety of issues?
Do you know who Howie Klein is? Have you read his posts here on Saturday afternoon? Might want to read those, before accusing Jane of not being proactive enough. Do you think Joe’s thugs through Jane out of the Palace on Monday night for being too passive?
Do you have any idea how much FDL has raised for progressive candidates?
Have you made a cash donation to FDL of say $50 via paypal?
Have you thought to thank Jane, Christy, Pach and all the others who blog here for all their hard work?
I’m glad you support Ned. That’s the important thing. Jane supported Ned back in January, with numerous posts back when his name recognition was in the single digits.
Welcome to FDL.
I’m sputtering with rage, at least I was ten minutes ago. i’m weighing different things: A phone call to Hillary’s campaign, a straight-up donation to Jonathon Tasani (sp? I don’t even know how to spell his name, but I’m so pissed off) with a photocopy of the check sent to Hillary. I’m just pissed.
Here something from today’s Courant.

“Lamont Returns To The Attack
Plays Up Differences From Primary Foe On Abortion, Gay Rights
July 26, 2006
By MARK PAZNIOKAS, Courant Staff Writer
WEST HARTFORD — One day after Bill Clinton rallied Democrats to Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman’s side, Ned Lamont resumed chipping away at the senator’s liberal credentials, cultivating Connecticut activists unimpressed with Lieberman’s record on abortion and gay rights.
Over drinks at the Pond House in Hartford’s Elizabeth Park, activists who have worked on passing state legislation legalizing civil unions for gay couples and safeguarding abortion rights attended a $50-a-ticket fundraiser Tuesday night for Lamont, a challenger known as an anti-war candidate.
“What this event underscores is that this is not a one-issue, anti-war campaign,” said George Jepsen, a former Democratic state chairman supporting Lamont. “This room is chock-full of grass-roots activists.”
His implication: They will turn out votes in the Aug. 8 primary.”…

THAT’S THE IDEA!
“spazeboy” is not a name. If I was in charge of security I wouldn’t let someone in who called themselves that.
I’m trying to adopt a new policy, treating stupid people with patience appropriate to their infirmity.

Hey Jim, check out the next big thing, after Lamont:

A kinder, gentler Jane Hamsher.
Per TSF, thank op99.
TeddySF, you idjot, if Jane got us to Mars, Bush would just militarize it. What were you thinking?
You are amazing, Jane and doing very well.
Jane, please do not eviscerate Tim Wayne so much that the mortician cant stitch the body back well enough for an open casket — please!

Jane – more gentle than expected
That was great of Skippy to do! (I met him through Jane and, like everyone I met through Jane, he’s a wonderful and supportive guy.)
It’s not necessarily a battle we need to fight now, but Clinton was far from an ideal progressive president. The best thing he had going for him is that he was viciously attacked by the neo-fascist right. So how could any patriot not rally to him? I know I did– although his reactionary, pro-Big Business/Republican-lite, triangulatin’ policies made me cringe. Bush has just been another Clinton, but greedier, more selfish, way, way stupider, and 1,000,000 times worse.

Jane, this new you is delightful, but I liked the Hamsher1.0 as well. Hard to choose, but I suppose you are leading us by your example. I, too, will strive to accommodate the stupid as their disability requires.

You were perfect, Jane.
You gotta keep an eye out on NBC Nightly — just releasing new poll numbers on Bush — worse than ever. Not online yet — probably after 7p Pacific.
Still waiting to see Jessica’s apology…
*dozes off*
Jane (#34), you’re doin’ good! You had me laughing out loud. (Was that the intent?)
Wow, is there some weird alignment of the stars right now, that so many people needing to be smacked alongside the head show up in such a short span of time? And just as Jane is trying out her new philosophy. *g*
Your restraint is admirable, Jane.
Sorry Teddy, gotta go out for a while. RBG will prolly fight ya ;)
Oh, and thanks for the CD, Howie! I didn’t even realize I was eligible for it.
Tim Wayne, spazeboy is kind of a hero around here.

OH MY – YOU’RE DOING GREAT!
And thanks to Christy’s thoughtful counsel (and donning my vintage Burberry hat) I did my best to post a mannered comment to Kaleidescope near the end of the last thread.
I am glad your physical health issues are better now, Skamm and hope your perception heals very soon as well.
Hi, LindaR! *waves*
Hey guys!
This is (sadly) another hit-and-run comment. I miss y’all and do what I can to at least read every single thread posting, and what comments I can catch. By the time I’ve done that, it’s time to go back to real life matters (too soon! too soon!), and there’s no time to stick my 2 cents in.
Let me just say that knowing you guys are still here — and attracting new and wonderful commenters all the time — is keeping me (somewhat) sane.
I can’t believe the insanity unfolding around us. I never thought the Book of Revelation was a genuine “end-times” prophecy (being Catholic meant we were taught that it was a “secret code” communication of Christians bucking each other up under the reign of Nero, doncha know), but these days there is a temptation to believe that Armageddon may be right around the corner.
Special Message to Mary [ — can someone pass it on if she’s not here now?]:
Thank you SO much for the link to the Willett lecture at Princeton. Not only did it shake me deeply, it also hit Mr. K8 quite hard — so he took the pdf file to work where he made copies of it. We will be spreading copies around wherever we can, wherever we go.
It’s SO important. Willett’s lecture is not only amazingly eye-opening and direct and emotionally moving, it also puts the responsibility for ending the Guantanamo monstronsity right in our laps where it ultimately must belong.
Youse guys — will be back just as soon as possible. Blessings on y’all in fighting against the monsters (and I include Leaverman amongst them). I wish you all as much peace and strength as possible in these godawful days of horror in the news.
Jane and Redd — thanks again for all your hard work.! This simple “thank you” is inadequate to express what I feel, and I’m sorry that our current situation doesn’t allow me to toss some clams your way now (thanks to that Bush Boom economy), but if there were some way to quantify gratitude, my response to what you give us here would be off the scale.
And thanks to Christy’s thoughtful counsel (and donning my vintage Burberry hat) I did my best to post a mannered comment to Kaleidescope near the end of the last thread.
This is my first thread of the day – I take it there’s been some kind of Concern Troll Onslaught?

OT – ccmask from end of last thread, diet is going. It came about earlier this year with a threat of diabeties and a 2 week evaluation writing every single thing I ate down. Ugh.
Since that time I have lost almost 30 lbs. None today, and am thinking I should just try to maintain that weight off for 2 months and see what happens. So that is my current goal. Now if I can only get rid of those pictures of chips and dip and prime rib it would be easier.
Tonight I had a sald and am about to have cantalope, tomates and stringbeans for a second course. No food after 7, no pop after 9.
I am trying to change how I live with food. And I am doing O.K.
Kos has a lot of new LieberTrolls too, I noticed, a sudden influx of Verrrry Concerned lifelong Democrats from CT who are fierce supporters of Ned Lamont but deeply resent outsiders trying to tell them how to vote.
take good care, Mrs. K8!
Teddy is an idjot…Teddy is an idjot…Neener… Neener…Neener.
Kirby – - from last thread
About that robo call from Clinton – - it sounded pretty ordinary until it got to “he’s earned it”. That makes me wince, and reminds me of what a whiny-baby Joe is.
I think that one phrase will remind people that Joe feels entitled to his Senate seat, and that’s what’s got people looking at Ned in the first place.
I wonder how much good that call will do HoJo?

Jane 34:
I remember you telling me a long time ago that the blog was your alter ego, where you could stand up to idiocy, rant at will, and generally conduct bidniss in as tough a manner as you wished.
My advice: don’t get too mellow! Point out idiocy, lambast jerks, harange at fools, and, with the 3 pups pulling the chariot, plunge ahead like Ben Hur at the chariot races, slicing the heads off wingers everywhere!
That said, skippy is indeed a righteous dude. I too met him through Jane, and he’s a badass with a wicked sense of humor.
Howie, I think BigDog’s Daddy issues served us better than W’s. Not ideally, but certainly better than the current Preznit. Now that I think about it, the current pResident’s Mommy issues rather overwhelm Bubba’s as well, no?
Wow, did a big bus just pull up to the curb?
and little dog too… Thanks for the picture. I actually said oooooh out loud. I miss having dogs. I had the best dog ever – a St. Bernard, German Shepard mix. Big as a house and just as gentle. She mothered two litters of kitties whose mother did not know up from down and simply walked off and left ‘em. They cuddled in her tail and she smothered them with kisses. I still miss her – the dog not the momma cat.
Thanks for cheering me up after my melt down.

LindaR – Yep, just sittin’ here oozing my nefarious magnetism from every pore. *g*
Treating stupid people with patience appropriate to their infirmity was one of the most mortifying learning-experiences life has ever afforded me, Jane. On the interpersonal level, it was a must. When it implicates congresscritters and Presidents . . . eh, not so much.
FWIW, SpazeBoy used his real name of Beau Anderson with the LieberTroopers ( and SpazeBoy is tres beau aussi ! )
Spazebeau?
Nef Leslie 55
It’s probably all Joe’s imported new staff that showed up for work today. :)
Hmmmm… I wonder if Bill Clinton agreed to let Lieberman use the sound bites from his speech for automated phone calls.
To me, it seems like something you would have to get permission for, out of a sense of respect and propriety.
How much you want to bet Lieberman’s team just went ahead and spliced together these automated Clinton calls without getting permission from Bill?
If so, maybe we should call Bill and let him know about this. Ask him whether he really wants the people of Connecticut being pulled away from their family dinners for auto-calls from the big dawg supporting Lieberman.
Maybe if Bill heard about this, he would put a stop to it… Just a thought.
ayldt 89, hah! Bet you’re right. Poor waifs, they know not what they do.
Jessica Aberan – ?
Jane, ya shoulda drop kicked ah.
Why how dare she ?

This brings up a favorite quote of mine: 11/5/04 Kevin Phillips on NOW with Bill Moyers
“I think the United States is really in some respects, on the sort of downhill slope that the great economic powers of the world get when they’ve got this division between rich and poor, when they’re overextended globally, when they’re building up debt. I mean, this has happened many times before. It seems like it’s where we are. And I don’t expect politics to address that honestly.”
Jessica Aberan is correct on one score —
The lack of emphasis on congressional elections on this blog, apart from Lamont/Holy Joe. I’ll give her that.
I won’t mind seeing a shift in focus a bit onto congressional races.
I always enjoy the sentence structures.
Me, I’m a bout half illiterate when it comes to such things but, some of these guy’s make me look like Hemingway.
I wish I could throw stones, but I have to edit ruthlessly to get my sentences down to, like, two or three clauses.

At the turn of the century, there was a lot of talk from historians about how the twentieth century had been the American Century.
They opined that it was unlikely that the 21st would be a repeat, and would belong to someone else.
Who knew Dumya would make that happen in 6 short years. :((
Jeffrey and Jessica must be dating or something …. Jeffrey has spaced out on the multitudinous congressional race postings, including the one this very afternoon. Reading comprehension is going to hell in a handbasket in kids today!
Hey, Jeffrey Barnes 108, do stop by EVERY Saturday morning when Howie Klein shows us how to turn America Blue. We meet a new Congressional candidate EVERY week here at the ‘lake, and you can check the archives on that. Many of us contribute something EVERY week to a Congressional candidate.
Howie also takes recommendations, so, Jeffrey, you can submit a specific race for consideration.

No lison 112,
I saw the Massa and Sestak post. No offense meant, but really, congressional races are not the emphasis on this blog. Once in a while, some races are highlighed which is good. But with four months till Nov., I won’t mind seeing more emphasis.

Howie Klein @ 45
You are so right!
Clinton is the greatest politician of our age, and the greatest, and most inspiring, public speaker. As a president, policy wise, not so much. He did nothing about Cuba, failed on health care, let Rethugs lead him around by the nose far too much, allowed a disastrous telecom bill to pass which is responsible for much of the evil consolidation of our media, let corporations and lobbyists spin out of control toward the debacle we witness today and was unable to pull progressives and Democrats along with him to electoral victories. To turn an old saw on its head, when he speaks I’m still in love with him, but I don’t love him.
Y’know . . . .
When people drop by here to tell Jane and Christy how to run their blog, it always makes me wonder if they are such control freaks in their own lives. Do they run everything at their workplace? In their family?
Are these the people who block the left lane of the highway to make you drive the speed limit? (Never mind that your dog was poisoned and you have minutes to get him to the emergency clinic.)
Are these the people who think they should make the rules about the bodies of women they’ve never met?
Reading posts like those just give me the heeby-jeebies, kind of like the reaction I have every time I see a picture of Bush “guiding” Miss Laura around by the neck.
OK, now I’ve made myself need a drink.
Sometimes we might sorta forget the our Canadian brethren have cards in this deck also. This is from a Mac board I’ve been known to freqent:
“I got my regular force callup approved and I’m off to Petawawa for two months then to Edmonton with the Princess Patricia’s Light Infantry (PPCLI) for a few more of weeks of training and orientation, then off to Afghanistan for 6 months, then another tour later, possibly.
Combat Engineering, just like for real.
I volunteered, so I’ve no cause for complaint.
This means odd-ball, nuanced and out-there interpretations of world events will have to be put on hold, unless someone else wants to take over.
I still have two weeks at my home unit in Ottawa before I go.
Chimo!”

I’m just saying that if you are at an event as a professional, you use your real name, not an online moniker. Jeffrey, how much have you donated?
You figure the tooth fairy pays for all this?
Hey, if you know something about a race, tell us, link to it.
Jeffrey, this primary race is driving all those other races. They are all watching CT. When Ned kicks Joe’s ass on August 8, it will drag everyone, Dems and Goopers, back towards the center. Now if you know of some other race that has that kind of pull in the primary, please by all means link to it.
On another note, is Vasily Andropov related to my old chauffeur, Pikup Andropov?
Car Talk– yeah!
Tweety says, “you can’t miss this one–Ann Coulter.”
Not to be rude, Tweety, but yes I can–and I will.
Stupid fascist-enabling right wing lapdog.
lotus, little dog,
It made a big impression on me too because it encapsulated a lot of things I was thinking at the time and still believe. What blows me away about this poll is that 81% of respondents thought the country is in a long term decline. The sheer size of that response gets me.
Morris 136
Everything you said, plus this:
Clinton is a natural-born teacher. If he had used his bully pulpit to explain all kinds of things to the people, we’d be a hell of better informed society.
What a waste that he didn’t use his teaching talent on the issues that are so important for us to understand.
*ilson, would you please substitute this link for me for the one immediately above

If Lieberman’s staff is getting paid to spend their time trolling on the FDL comment board, I am forced to wonder about whether Marion S. is making an effective use of the resources at her disposal.
A) Paying staffers to hang out on FDL accomplishes nothing; and
B) The Lieberfolk assigned to monitor and comment on FDL might learn a bit more about Lieberman and decide that maybe they don’t want to work too hard for him after all.
So, I, for one, welcome our Lieberman-supporting guests.
I encourage you to enjoy the great state of Connecticut while you are here – visit the beach, go for a boat ride, have a nice day at a spa.
No need to work too hard for Joe while you’re in the state.
Just relax, enjoy your time here and collect your check when it is all over.
That is what I would do if I were a college student trying to make a few dollars over the summer working for on a campaign for a subpar and unexciting candidate like Joe.
Ye–ezzzz, meta dahling? Are you suggesting we get a room? Will you cook for me?
Tim Wayne, your latest comment reveals you missed *ilson46201 at 3:53 pm.
neuro – the greatest gift is an off button, isn’t it?
op99 – and end all suffering in the world
ALL? Does Jane have to end ALL? Please can’t we keep some select, targeted suffering? I have two siblings birthdays coming up and I really enjoy reminding them that they are older than me. It wouldn’t be the same without the suffering.
and your little dog too (82) —
Realizing this, I would probably take my regular picture ID with me so nobody would think I was trying to get in on a fake name. Duh.
Don’t “duh” me, lady. I saw a video that Spazeboy made in which he and Jane were booted from Joenertia’s event. Jane introduced herself as Jane Hamsher and Spazeboy introduced himself as Spazeboy. Of course he’s free to call himself a chocolate sunday for all I care, I’m just saying that when a person introduces himself, he should use his real name. That’s all. This is a simple concept and I don’t understand the resistance.
and your little dog, too, You are a kennel of joy.
Mary, I wont pass that link out unless I read from you or MrsC8 it’s ok. Thanks for the reminder.
You know, I think that this blog would be more balanced if Jane adopted some cats. Most of us like dogs, but some of us like cats too. It would be much more inclusive if Jane had one cat for each dog. Pound for pound, it wouldn’t even out but it would be much more fair. Does anyone else have any recommendations?
And by the way, Jane is the wind.
wow
John Casper says Tim Wayne, your latest comment reveals you missed *ilson46201 at 3:53 pm.
You’re right. I missed that comment. Thanks.

Well, besides that I really wanna have a couple of cold ones IN FRONT OF BUSH. Or, maybe doom him in perpetuity to witness same by a variey of the dead he’s killed.
Tim Wayne #153
But otoh, if he had a really good fake id to match his fake name, who’s to know the dif?
Is it the heat that’s getting to everybody under the bridges, or what?
Spazeboy has his ticket and that required in advance full ID. get over it.
did Batman always introduce himself as Tim Wayne? I didnt think so! SpazeBoy is a videographer who uses a professional name and he is known by that. His given name is also public — Beau Anderson.
Now run away and play in some other sandpile, “Tim Wayne” (assuming that’s your real name!
Come to think of it, if I were given a name like Tim Wayne, I would be horrendously sensitive to identity and naming issues…it must be a psychological thing …
I dunno what it is TeddySanFran, but I could not resist adding to the inanity!
Tim Wayne at 140 — let me clarify something. Spazeboy is his online moniker. So that’s what we use to identify him online. He and Jane had to give full names and social security numbers to get tickets. If Spazeboy wants to give you his full name, that’s his business — but we’re not handing it out here at FDL. Capice?
Bush had a really good fake id and look where it got him…
I mean, he was AWOL, DUI and had stardust in his nose and has a wife who ran over her boyfriend and ran away into chimpy’s arms, etc.
Hahahaa, lotus. I was just checking with you to see if it was cocktail hour or not. BTW, my cooking skills were pretty great until I became a pastry chef. Now I’m a Trader Ho.
angie,
Did he get a fake SS # too?
For the record, I’m supporting Lamont and I’m hoping Joe Lieberman goes down in defeat on Aug 8th.
Sorry for my tone, earlier on. Must be the spicy fried rice I ate this afternoon.
a wife who ran over her boyfriend
angie, Really? *smirk*
Hi Teddy! Thanks for the shout-out – and my special powers make me sherocket anyway, but I can’t help feeling like we were all promised rocket-packs sometime around 1958.
The cables are going out the window again this Saturday – my man will be teaching people how to build their own desktop for under $300, and I will be luring potential voters to me with cookies.
“spazeboy” is a Beau Geste
TeddySF, it’s another Spare the Air Day. Hee.
. . . and your little dog, too 146
Yeah. When you think about it what a waste – blown opportunity, call it what you will – kind of depresses me.
I think ember @ 154 is right. Jane should get some cats who will spend more time on congressional races and are also able to slink into Clinton – HolyJoe events (And report back, of course).
Yes, dahling meta, it sholly is dubble-bubble here — what may I pour you (before this new lightning storm gets any closer and I scram)?
angie wields scalpel with deft dexterity:
“…ran over her boyfriend and ran away into chimpy’s arms”

very nicely executed there. The whole thing, really, but that part got me.
Laura not only ran over a boyfriend but kilt ‘im daid ! for real!
angie
Click and clack absolutely rule. I also use their law firm, Dewey, Cheetham and Howe.
I wonder if laura was stoned when she did it….?
Jeffrey, you are welcome here, for the record, and I hope you’ll take some time to join us this Saturday to meet Eric Massa, a really extraordinary Fighting Dem who’s being brought here by Howie Klein. You may also want to review the history of the Blue America posts in the archive on the upper left.
On the other hand, if I get to tell YOU what to do for a moment, spend the day volunteering in your Connecticut town for the Lamont campaign, and come back and tell us all about it! We are all ears when it comes to boots on the ground, as you’ve noted.
You will learn, as all we men lucky enough to hang around the ‘lake have learned, that DIRECTIVE discussion is very much discouraged when aimed at our blogmistresses. It’s a hard habit to unlearn, for us men, or maybe it’s just the spicy fried rice.
Me, I’m going to have a martini now (that sun takes too long to get over the yardarm in PDT for my taste!) and I’ll be back later, probably without a shift-key.
Click and clack absolutely rule. I also use their law firm, Dewey, Cheetham and Howe.
I heard about this one second-hand: “Not only am I the president, but I’m also… bald as an eggplant!”
Mercury is slowing down, it’s been retrograde all month, before it moves forward again on Friday. It is th planet of communication and perhaps those with the bargain brand of tin foil on their hats are getting some jumbled signals.
Being a hat maker, e.g, Millineryman, I always suggest that people use the name brand heavy duty kind of tin foil.
It’s just more durable.
*ilson – perfectly placed.
thunder – I hadn’t thought about that potential benefit. I just knew that Jane and CHS needed me to help them run fdl:).
Lotus, I’m thinking Tempranillo. I’m ffffeeling a bit like a Spanish flamenco tonight. Can’t belive you’re having storms.
Pickles, Deadeye, W, Rummy. Killers, all. Nice of Condi to wear pearls with that stiff suit today, though.
Maybe Jane should invest in snakes instead of cats or birds, and then, when this blog FINALLY returns to its roots, we’ll have Snakes on a Plame
!!
Wow, This evil did start early. Maybe I heard this some time ago. I guess the ringing in my ears from the last five years overwhelms the tales of road kill.
OK Eli 180
Now I have to start drinking. Seriously. It’s still so damn hot here.
David Letterman brought up the Bubba/Holy Joe event in last night’s monologue… Something like this:
“Bill Clinton spoke and whipped the crowd into a frenzy…
Then Joe Lieberman spoke and whipped the crowd into a coma.”
I love me some cartalk too. It doesn’t matter how dark the day, they always make me laugh (out loud).
Skippy is always polite and never raises his voice… why, he doesn’t even use capital letters!
Tempranillo it is, meta. Storm, it also is. Toodle-oo now, from just s. of Daytona Beach.
GACK!
NO snakes on this plame!
(Now see? That’s why I’m not a vet. I woulda fed the damn thing another blanket.)
BYE!
I nominate my cat Wilson Peanuthead Crybabyface for any feline political action that may be required. He already has business cards and a press pass.
NO snakes on this plame!
The snakes already bit Plame.
sherocket, is that *ilson Peanuthead Crybabyface? Walter and Perry could help but if I got the cat carriers out, they would disappear.
Christy Hardin Smith @ 163
let me clarify something. Spazeboy is his online moniker. So that’s what we use to identify him online. He and Jane had to give full names and social security numbers to get tickets. If Spazeboy wants to give you his full name, that’s his business — but we’re not handing it out here at FDL. Capice?
Thanks. I understand.
To clarify: I didn’t ask what his name was. I don’t care. I simply said that if someone wanted access to my ID-required event and identified himself with a nickname, I wouldn’t grant access (I’ve since been told he didn’t). Further, I criticized his decision to identify himself by his moniker in his video, because an opinion aired by someone using an anonymous moniker or simply “anonymous” is less weighty than one’s real name. I’m sure you see my point.
On another point: I’ve been reading this blog for six months or so. I don’t post very often because I usually don’t feel the need to, since the posts are usually so well written. Question: why is it the claws come out (like they did here) when someone is critical and raises (what I consider to be) a valid point? Are people here of the thought “Spazeboy is my friend and therefore he can do no wrong and anyone who criticizes him for anything is evil and must be destroyed” ? That’s how this conversation tracks, to me. It’s not like I’m defending Lieberman here, I’m simply saying, hey, I don’t like this one little thing about this video Spazeboy did. And people here are reacting like I am personally insulting the guy. I’m not. I like him and I like his work. Maybe you can clarify this for me.
lhp, I hope that trial is going ok for you.
I cast my lot with Bill Clinton both times. But… that does not by any stretch mean I’m proud of it. I voted for Carter twice, and considering what he was able to accomplish with Rabin and al-Sadat… and what this man has done since leaving office… now that makes be proud.
I voted for Carter twice, and considering what he was able to accomplish with Rabin and al-Sadat… and what this man has done since leaving office… now that makes be proud.
Not one of the best presidents we’ve ever had, but one of the best human beings ever to hold the office.
ember – [?] . . . [!] I have been misreading *ilson’s name as *lison until this very moment! So, the orange one and the cat of my life could very well be *ilson — I knew he could use email, but I didn’t know he blogged . . .
gang — I did a quick search and Tim Wayne has indeed posted some friendly things in here before. I apologize but please be aware that hinky comments in the heat of battle are sometimes misunderstood…your original comment today had the studied obliviousness of a concern troll…
For you cartalk fans- here’s today’s puzzler:
Two smart women start a blog, which becomes wonderfully successful, attracts a loyal following and starts to influence events, even if in a small way at first. Soon some interlopers come along and tell them just how they should run things because, well, because they just know everything so much better than the folk who started the whole thing. So they are blindfolded and driven around in car going exactly 42 miles per hour for one hour and thirty eight minutes, including a five minute stop for gasoline at $3.27.9 per gallon. The question is: what direction should they start walking to get home once they remove the blindfolds? Write your answer on the back of an electronic ballot from a Diebold machine and send it to Puzzler, 1 Firedoglake Plaza, Our Fair City. The winner will be chosen at random from all plausible answers.
I heart Jimmy Carter and respect Bill for trying to follow in his footsteps while president and would like for him to stop stumping for Hillary and get back to peacemaking and helping to make the difference in Africa that I know he can, if he can just walk away from poppy and lie-boy-man.
the studied obliviousness of a concern troll…
Well put. The very essence of concern troll, in fact. I too thought it was very peculiar that anyone would reach the conclusion that spazeboy actually tried to gain admittance with his online handle, but I assumed he was just kidding.
Christy ,
Thanks so much for the Judiciary Committee threads today. What a load of work! You and the pups never fail to amaze me. It’s an honor to read here.
I heart Jimmy Carter and respect Bill for trying to follow in his footsteps while president and would like for him to stop stumping for Hillary and get back to peacemaking and helping to make the difference in Africa that I know he can, if he can just walk away from poppy and lie-boy-man.
Would a Carter endorsement of Ned carry any weight at all?
hmmm…is the TeddySanFran that Balz answers?:
“San Francisco, Calif.: Mr. Balz, thanks for selecting my question for your chat this morning. The Bellwethers Project is fascinating! I wonder why there’s no evaluation of the impact of this “on-line” community I keep reading about. Do you think these “bloggers” that people mention will be a measurable force in the 2006 midterms?
Dan Balz: First big test for the bloggers will be in the Connecticut primary. The bloggers are enthusiastic supporters of Ned Lamont in his challenge to Sen. Lieberman. That primary is Aug. 8, so that will give you some clues. Many in the blog world think they’ve already had an impact because the race is so competitive.”

sherocket – don’t feel bad, many months ago I think I w*lson’ed, *ilson, even if I knew better, (momentary brain freeze). The kind gentleman didn’t correct me.
If he can email, why can’t he blog?
I think so, Eli. People are yearning for peace.
Tim at 196 — I think you just caught us on an off day, mainly because we’ve had this odd spate of “concern troll” types the last week or so. It’s been especially the case in the last couple of days when people who have never posted here before or since have shown up to berate Jane and I for not reporting on “their favorite issue” or for covering this or that too much/too little/not at all/take your pick.
And I think the regulars are perhaps a wee bit more overprotective of us than usual this week as a result. Sorry if everyone got more crabby than they should have — I missed the start of all of this, due to dinner and 3-year-old bedtime stories — or I could have cleared it up that much earlier. I figured that was the confusing point for you, and I’m happy to have been able to help clear it up.
And please forgive the regulars — they are just watching Jane’s and my back, even if they are doing so perhaps a bit more emphatically than is necessary. It’s a tough line to draw. :)
Haha, Stern is slamming LIEberman
Can’t stay but, Hi/bye Donna, Linda and Leslie
This is OT but earlier today in Christy’s Judiciary Commitee FISA hearing Part I, she asked if John Cornyn ever had an independent thought.
‘Fraid not, Redd.
He is unfortunately my senator so I contact his office A LOT. And every letter I get from him reads like WH Talking Points 101.
Today I called to try to find out out where he really stands on warrantless NSA spying, executive power, etc.
I received a call back from Alicia who left me this message: “The senator does feel that it is within President Bush’s constitutional powers to protect and defend the nation and that he believes that this [warrantless NSA spying] does fall within that. In addition, he’s also committed to ensuring that we balance the national security needs as well as the protection of citizens’ civil liberties.”
My question for Alicia tomorrow: What does Senator Cornyn think should be done to achieve that balance?
Dear Mrs K8 – thank you !
And Jane, breathing is good but it feels so much better if you just drop kick em !
I guess Salon did an OpEd on Arlen.

well, he only emails when my Mom won’t let him eat rubber bands, and then he goes and talks to the squirels (in a manner reminiscent of the cat in Animal Farm trying to convert the birds to socialism). I would have thought that if he did blog, it would be “Effective Squirel-Baiting, 101″
I think that CHS will make one fine Secretary of State. I just wish she could take over NOW!
I don’t think anyone watching that video thought that Spazeboy had tried to gain admittance without using his real name and ID. But his nom de tubes is Spazeboy, and that’s how the people watching would know him.
There have been an enormous number of Liebertrolls around today. I guess Holy Joe is finally trying to do something about the internets.
Eureka – I think the link is fine (I’m assuming the have permission to host it there) but I just never feel comfortable (even when it was for classes) making copies to hand out without some kind of ok. I’ll be honest, though, I have no clue on copyright stuff. Jane and legions here no doubt know more.
Jessica and Jeffrey – kos and klein are on the blogroll. Campaign stuff to your hearts conetent. The Sat series and now more frequent inserts updates we are getting from Howie and Christy too (who just had a post up on a campaing as well) are all over this blog. FDL is onestop shop on both Plame and the Leiberman/Lamont campaign – and a gazillion other issues like beltway consultants, media accountability, etc. and have also had terrific guest posts up on humor, and Matt’s series on govt spending abuses, explanations of Bivens actions, the war(s) etc. Plus the bookreviews on Sundays and boatloads of live blogging of hearings and YKOS etc.
Top it off with the fact that many threads are routinely allowed to go OT if someone wants to work and dig up info and post it and as a result comments under all kinds of threads have campaign info and discussions (even the Sat morning pull up a chair threads have had readers delurk who are running for offices).
More importantly – it’s JH’s and CHS’s blog. They aren’t coming into your house and telling you what you should read.
Plus the comments on all kinds of topics are very often
Oh I missed Mrs.K8. If you’re still reading, THANK YOU for telling us about the Guthrie special. I loved it and have been hoping to catch sight of you for days!

Plus the comments on all kinds of topics are very often
OMG, they got Mary!
SCATTER!!!
Eli…
Sure Carter is not considered one of the best presidents. But I felt a whole lot safer when he was doing business in the Middle East than I do now. And who is in a position to judge this man. Not I for sure. We had under Clinton, NAFTA (setting things up for CAFTA), the beginnings of outsourcing, the “third way”, and the rise of the DLC. History might judge Carter with more compassion some day. Remember Truman? I would hazard that if Carter were president today, this war in Iraq and Lebanon would not be happening. And we might not be so constantly bombarded with double speak. And no Roves, Cheneys, Rices, Rumsfelds, no Gonzales and the rest. And no patriot act or wire tapping.
Mary!
Mary?
Speak to me!
Morris @ 202– ROTFLMAO!
Mary — it’s always been my understanding that if its a publicly accessible URL, it can be linked to with no copyright problems.
So, has anyone called that Lieberman candy store for the wax lips yet? Hot lip Hooligans!
Not to pile on at all, but Jane Hamsher is the name she uses on the blog, and spazeboy is the name he uses in the same medium. It would have been awfully odd if he’d identified himself as anything other than his *handle* in the video, as it was for blog consumption for the most part. IMO. :)
Oklahoma kiddo at 221
So you’re saying that if Carter was President today we might actually still have a democracy?
BTW his son, Jack is running for Senate in Nevada. Maybe worth a post by someone someday.
OK kiddo, Carter was dealt a lousy hand and couldn’t overcome it – I don’t know if anyone short of FDR could’ve. Reagan (with the help of some hostage crisis sabotage) swooped in and took advantage.
Christy, per an earlier comment of yours, might it be correct to edit or delete the comments with spazeboy’s real name in them?
Re Clinton: I too voted for him both times, but I also feel deep in my intellect that he is hugely responsible for the overall shift rightward of this country. IMO, he sold out Dem ideals (just as Holy Joe is doing) to be popular. He is a weaselly politician first and a decent human being second, quite the opposite of dear Jimmy Carter.
Absolutely, Morris!
Morris Sheppard – laughing out loud, again:)
It would have been awfully odd if he’d identified himself as anything other than his *handle* in the video, as it was for blog consumption for the most part. IMO. :)
Exactly. If he’d used his real name, everyone would have said “Who the hell’s that? Where’s spazeboy?”
wax lips sink ships
Eli, like you said, Carter was dealt a lousy hand. As young as I was when he was Prez, I remember watching the news and thinking, “geez, give this guy a chance”. They started in on him, relentlessly, about 5 minutes after he took office. Upsetting to witness.
Eli: Reagan (with the help of some hostage crisis sabotage) swooped in and took advantage.
I believe you’re referring to “Benedict Ronald” Reagan, the traitor who sold missiles to the enemy?
Jenny from the blog 226
“Not to pile on at all, but Jane Hamsher is the name she uses on the blog”
Yeah, her real name is
Xtlpxlic. I hope I didn’t give anything away.I thought her real name was Shane Hampshire.
Yeah, her real name is Xtlpxlic. I hope I didn’t give anything away.
Just don’t mention that if you can get her to say it backwards, she will be returned to her own dimension.
lol, they sure would. Where’s Joe appearing next? A moment on the lips forever off the blips…
Moderator, could you please delete “Xtlpxic” from comment 237? It is a state secret, after all.
hee hee.
Hey all,
Glad I could make you smile.
I believe you’re referring to “Benedict Ronald” Reagan, the traitor who sold missiles to the enemy?
Was that the payoff for holding the hostages until after the election, or was it just business?
Christy Hardin Smith (210) says And please forgive the regulars — they are just watching Jane’s and my back, even if they are doing so perhaps a bit more emphatically than is necessary. It’s a tough line to draw. :)
I see. Well, I’m in favor of the regulars watching your back and for defending Lamont, etc. — it’s a feature, not a bug. I’m just not used to people reading my posts so critically and not just assuming I’m one of the good guys, even if I point out something I don’t like. I mean, I look at what I said (about monikers) as the strategic equivalent of fixing someone’s collar before they walk into a meeting or telling them if they have something in their teeth. But I think perhaps I didn’t get my point across very well from the beginning.
heh. aaaanyways,
(and excuse my ignorance, but what the hell is a “concern troll” ? I know what a troll is)
(and excuse my ignorance, but what the hell is a “concern troll” ? I know what a troll is)
A concern troll is a troll who pretends to be a Democrat or liberal and essentially tells us we’re doing it all wrong and we’re going to lose.
Was wondering how Jack Carter is doing…
Here is a July 5th Kos update
http://www.dailykos.com/storyo…..0846/47988
hiya Tim!
Wow GrandmaJ- you lost 30 lbs! I think I may have found it!
John Casper: Thanks.
I don’t do this for recognition. I consciously pull myself out of the limelight in part so that I can create the infrastructure so that others can shine. I have thick skin. And yet, it’s still welcome to get a nice word, as I am not often thanked and frequently assume the role of handler of people’s wishes, even their frustrations.
I think that we need John Casper to explain ‘concern troll’.
Mary………..!
wrt “communications here with much static”……….Mercury has been “retrograde” for nearly the whole last month, (this makes communication difficult). The change to “direct” is already in place to have full occurrance on July 29, at which time, theoretically, it will be easier to understand one another. If god is willing…
Eli – Was that the payoff for holding the hostages until after the election, or was it just business?
yes.
sherocket @238
I thought her real name was Shane Hampshire.
I thought her real name was Jeanette Hampster!
Mary’s gone. I hope her power didn’t go out again!
*ilson, nice catch at 5:09, as per usual. Knowing the history really helps.
Tim Wayne – serious answer to your Q.
Question: why is it the claws come out (like they did here) when someone is critical and raises (what I consider to be) a valid point?
I think it happens when there is a newish poster and either the tone of the post is to first criticize an action without asking for information on which to support the criticism or when there are fact flaws. One thing this blog does a lot of is address “talking point” ideology and the kinds of “well sure there were wmds in Iraq” posits and the “Valerie Plame was not covert, just classified, so it was ok to gossip about her” etc.
That makes people very honed in on things that seem to include efforts to spread incorrect facts. So when you say,
I simply said that if someone wanted access to my ID-required event and identified himself with a nickname, I wouldn’t grant access (I’ve since been told he didn’t).
I’d say that is part of what generated the reaction. It was pretty clearly (imo) a blogvid for people who would know the blog names, but there had been comments from the day before that pretty clearly stated that anyone going would have to give their name and SocSec bc of Clinton’s sec service issues and the event’s protocols. So I think if you had ASKED, “did he give them his real name or his blog name” before saying “well since he gave his blog name of course they spun him” it would have been a different reception.
I think the same thing happened with lo who started off with mis-stating a reporter’s marriage partner’s and personal status.
Those kinds of things are going to generate a negative reaction on a site that spends a lot of time picking apart propagandized talking points. I can see where you (or lo for example) might have felt it was harsh, but I know lo also said something about not posting without googling anymore (*g*) and really, if it generates that reaction, that’s not a bad thing. Posters correct even other posters who they adore if they make statements that are “out there” although if someone has built up history and trust, it probably is done more gently.
fwiw – sorry you felt claws came out and I really am trying to give an explanation, not a tsk tsk.
You can pick on me about my bad typing skills if it helps. *g*
Jenny from the Blog (227) says Not to pile on at all, but Jane Hamsher is the name she uses on the blog, and spazeboy is the name he uses in the same medium. It would have been awfully odd if he’d identified himself as anything other than his *handle* in the video, as it was for blog consumption for the most part.
Incorrect. Kos identifies himself and is identified by media in variations of “Markos Moulitas, that’s Kos of the DailyKos.” That’s not odd, it’s thorough and accurate.
From July 24th http://usliberals.about.com
Nevada’s 2006 Senate Race: Jack Carter vs. Republican Senator John Ensign
Got back last night from four days in Reno, Nevada, attending to family business. While there, I noticed hundreds of suburban front yards boasting political placards for the upcoming Nevada primary election set for August 15, 2006.
The name most frequently featured was Jack Carter, candidate for the Democratic senatorial nomination. Jack Carter is the 59-year-old eldest child of the 39th President of the United States, Jimmy Carter, and his much-admired wife Roslynn Carter.
Carter is strongly favored to win the Democratic primary, but faces a formidable opponent in the November 2006 elections against one-term incumbent Senator John Ensign, a Republican who is well-connected to Nevada’s influential gaming industry.
But reelection is far from assured for Ensign, who posted a tepid 52% approval ratings in Nevada in SurveyUSA’s June 2006 polls. And Jack Carter is developing into a surprisingly strong candidate…
Well, evidentally Joe is using Clinton’s appearance in upcoming TV ads. This a great time for Lamont to counter with his own ads juxtaposing voiceover of Holy Joe sermonizing about Bill’s bad moral character on the floor of the Senate.
Or maybe not. Too much of a side-issue? Still it points to the hypocrisy big time. Something’s got to be done about Joe using all the Clinton soundbites in his ads, tho.
Tim Wayne -
As far as I know, Jane doesn’t have an alias. It’s just plain old Jane. Markos also uses Kos.
I guess Jane could call herself Missy Firedoglake or something… I dunno.
Um, we’re getting into a weird area here. I think I’ll just shut my mouf.

You’re very welcome Pach.
ember, you are too kind.

Tim Wayne @256Incorrect. Kos identifies himself and is identified by media in variations of “Markos Moulitas, that’s Kos of the DailyKos.” That’s not odd, it’s thorough and accurate.
The key phrase there is “by media”.
As someone has already pointed out, the spazeboy video was for use on the blog, not the media.
the really sick thing about the Joe/Big Dog Campaign is that back in 2000, Joe would have cut off his left hand to avoid being photographed with Bill Clinton … Holy Joe was put on the ticket in 2000 to cleanse the Democrats of that vile lying adulterer!
LOL
Mercury and I have history. ;-)
I could never get anyone to be my lab partner in Organic Chemistry bc thermometers would spontaneously (it seemed) burst when I came near. Hard to get boiling points with busted thermometers and mercury globs floating.
*ilson – that’s what I meant on links. Linking I think is fine if it is hosted on a site. What I wasn’t sure about is making hardcopies to hand out. I hope it is ok – I may email myself – bc it was just a great commentary IMO.

Wow, Mary must be *really* hot. Like, literally.
maybe brush will stump for JoJo before he heads to the pigfarm for vacation.

You’re quick on the draw there.
ember: maybe brush will stump for JoJo before he heads to the pigfarm for vacation.
Ya mean after he loses the nomination and turns into a Puke?
I am flabbergasted at the extensive article on trolls at Wikipedia — I shall have to read it all …
*ilson,
see if Kibbles really are their favorite for me.
Jenny from the Blog (260) As far as I know, Jane doesn’t have an alias. It’s just plain old Jane. Markos also uses Kos. I guess Jane could call herself Missy Firedoglake or something… I dunno.
“Miss Firedog Lake”
hmmmm
Sounds like an idea for a monthly calendar. Each month could have a pinup of a different frequent contributor in a bathing suit. :-)
*ilson, Thanks for that clarification. Can’t imagine the link-mares I was about to have.
Tim Wayne at 273 — Oh GOD no! But perhaps our respective pets? *g*
Sounds like an idea for a monthly calendar. Each month could have a pinup of a different frequent contributor in a bathing suit. :-)
My bathing suit looks remarkably similar to jeans and a bowling shirt.

Thanks for the info. and link to Jack Carter stuff. I was totally unawares of the Carter candidacy.
OT- Mary, did you see before (yesterday) that I said how much I enjoyed your FDL article (back when)? I hope that if the occasion arises you will do another FDL article- pleeeease? M/VG
hmmm, everyone comes ‘out’ on the calender in whatevah– I’m thinking togas.
Mary (256) – Thanks for your in-depth clarification. That was really nice to write out so thorough an explanation. I appreciate it.
Mary…LOL…actually my “mercury” comment was relating to other’s comments above yours, and not yours, but I love your story.
I just thought what you’d written above worthy of mention. I still do.
Tim Wayne -
I like it! Or “Mistress Firedog Lake”. Lots of alternative marketing possibilities there. :)
Using pseudonyms is bad. Only bad people with something to hide would do that. Very very bad. UnAmerican.

Here’s a grass roots CA Dem page I just found, for those of us out west looking for dollars and time to donate. I just found it, and don’t know much, but maybe others know this group.

My bathing-suit looks just like Jane Fonda’s in Barbarella.
it could be the poodles, every month. They are so beautiful, I could look at pictures of them all the time. Cat suggestions, set aside.
Tim, you have curtailed access to your photo portfolio — do you have any pics to submit to the editors of that calendar? A number of us are trying to get SpazeBoy in a Speedo…
What about those things?
Eli – that’s not your picture in the “Are Demons Talking to You” link?
demonade – snort
John Casper 5:56 (cc:Eli:5:55) me too……
Lol,
I still remember the palm to the forehead moment when Jane explained to me where the FireDogLake name came from.I was Googling like a madman trying to find a Lake called FireDog.
What a maroon.
Eli – that’s not your picture in the “Are Demons Talking to You” link?
My hair’s a lot shorter.
Bustednuckles -
I don’t know the origin of the FDL name. If it’s too long a story could you give me the short version?
I screwed up my link again, I think.
*shame*
I was Googling like a madman trying to find a Lake called FireDog.
I got your FireDogs right here.
Jenny,

Doh!!

But no photos are there, they are elsewhere on my site (under “stuff”.
There are pics of me on my vox blog, though, http://timmy.vox.com/
I have to be honest with you: I ain’t model material in this incarnation. Maybe the next one.
Bustednuckles,
Boy I’m a knucklehead! D’oh!
Good idea, John Casper, i just sent a little muffin $ by paypal.
People should look at Mr. Wayne’s homepage. Quite interesting. I am timid and it scares me a bit, but when I get my courage up, I will click on one of the cards.
Seriously, I think that the spazeboy/Hamsher video was good. Builds spirit. Non-reactionaries need their spirit back. The opposition has the kind of people who can go out and lie, and disrupt and act out damnable lies physically, and very aggressively and cheerfully, and that can be a gamechanger at times. Remember the fake grassroots voter riot where they were counting votes in Florida, and the fake grass roots voter rioters got the count stopped. The grassroots voter rioters were almost all professional political GOP operatives flown in from DC.
So, when we have truth on our side, why are we prohibited from having a little fun?
Oklahoma kiddo – I saw him on Larry King a few months back with his Dad. They were peas in a pod, with some different views of course. Liked him a lot. Might this be another Dem. Senate seat? *g*
The DOH!! was for me. Like I said, what a maroon.
I have to be honest with you: I ain’t model material in this incarnation. Maybe the next one.
Welcome to the club…
I know we are in serious EPU-land here, but Jane, spazeboy (whose real name is on his own blog, BTW) and any other rabble-rouser for Ned in CT who needs Groucho glasses so as not to be recognized at Lieberman events, let me know.
The call I got was recorded and so poorly edited that there was little grammar that made sense. With all the money they have, I would think they would get some professional sound editors!
First commercial from Dodd asking for vote for Lieberman this AM — local news.
And with that, I am going to go curl up in bed and watch the PBS American Masters on Cronkite (if I can stand the Couric narration, that is). Let me remember a time when we had a decent government, and news was a force for truth, justice and the American Way — not press releases, talking points, and the Wurlitzer.
See you in the AM.
damn fine work, Tim !
Thanks to the many thoughtful posters here today but special thanks for the people that made me laugh.

OH HELP, People!
Suggestions for response freely accepted for review, puleeze asap!
On 2nd attempt to prod something outta dear Sen. DeWine, I rec’t this (copy below). Help! Way beyond my expertise, other than to recognize he’s pulling out his big gun of 9/11 9/11 9/11 yahda yahda yahda!
I’d be so-o happy, & EVER so grateful, to take suggestions & go at ‘em again. SOMEONE in his ofc apparently IS checking e-mail, at least enuf to know when a constituent’s p.o.ed (don’t ever tell my parents I said that *blush* – yeah – bluenose background, guilty-as-charged several days ago, but I’m a big goil now ;->)
————-
Here t’is from my very own Sen. DeW.:
‘Thank you for contacting me.
‘As you know, following the attacks of September 11, 2001, President George
W. Bush authorized the National Security Agency (NSA) to begin monitoring
international phone calls in which one party is in the United States and
one party is a member, or suspected member, of a terrorist organization.
In a time of national emergency, I expect the President to take such
actions to protect our Nation, even if those actions are not specifically
authorized by statute. Public and congressional awareness of the program
now has caused a great deal of debate and has sparked a series of hearings
in the Senate Judiciary Committee and briefings in the Senate Intelligence
Committee. I am a member of both committees and have participated fully in
these hearings and briefings.
‘There are legal and constitutional questions about whether the President
must, after a period of time, come to Congress for statutory authorization
of the NSA program. Certainly the country and the President would be
stronger with such authorization. I believe that statutory authorization
and Congressional oversight for this program would avoid a divisive debate
in Congress and throughout our Nation. Accordingly, I have written
legislation which would authorize the surveillance of terrorist
communication, but also would help ensure substantial Congressional
oversight and judicial review.
‘Under my legislation — the Terrorist Surveillance Act of 2006 (S.2455) –
the President would need to reauthorize the electronic surveillance
program every 45 days. Also, after no more than 45 days in each
individual wiretapping case, he must decide whether to terminate the
surveillance, refer it to the FISA Court for a warrant, or direct the
Attorney General to justify its continuation to new Congressional
subcommittees. The new subcommittees, which would be within the House and
Senate Intelligence Committees, are dedicated exclusively to providing
oversight of the NSA program. To enable further vigorous oversight, the
subcommittees would be equipped with a professional staff responsible for
monitoring the program and reviewing the individual surveillance cases.
Also, my bill would require the President to go to the FISA court for a
warrant as soon as he has sufficient evidence to do so and put procedures
in place to ensure that the rights and liberties of Americans are
protected. Finally, to help guarantee that the Terrorist Surveillance
Program exists only as long as is necessary to protect our national
security, the authorization for the program will expire in five years
unless reauthorized by Congress.
‘Again, thank you for contacting me. Please feel free to contact me
anytime with additional questions or concerns.
‘Very respectfully yours,..’
Jimmy Carter had sincere humility before the power he was vested with. And people despised him for it.
Tim Wayne -you should send that progressive accomplishments list to the DLC, see if they can figure it out. Too bad most of your site is restricted.
I ain’t modeling material
I am maudlin: my tear, real
Busted, I was googling too. MaroonII.

Jurist has a bit on Hayden’s testimony for Specter this AM.
http://jurist.law.pitt.edu/pap…..s-fisc.php
“CIA director Hayden backs FISC oversight for domestic spying
Joshua Pantesco at 11:37 AM ET
[JURIST] CIA Director Michael Hayden on Wednesday spoke against requiring the US government to show probable cause to obtain warrants to wiretap domestic conversations thought to involve al-Qaeda affiliates during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing [committee materials] on adapting the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) [text] to the threat of terrorism. Hayden argued that while FISA was appropriate for granting court orders to spy on the threats of the 1970s, which primarily included stable foreign regimes such as the USSR, it is ill-suited to dealing with today’s terrorists, who are not defined by national borders and state affiliations. Hayden spoke favorably of Committee Chairman Arlen Specter’s controversial compromise bill [JURIST report], now before the committee, that would allow the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC) to oversee the NSA’s domestic surveillance program [JURIST news archive], require the attorney general to provide the FISC information on the NSA program, and expand the period where emergency wiretaps can be secured from the FISC from three to seven days.”…
wesgpc — follow the links Tim just provided — he does damn fine work! (and he’s cute too! woohoo!)
still open to suggestion, but going out on my own for now.
damn the torpedoes ….
I’m probably a day late and a dollar short but, delurking to say my 11 year old got one the the Lieber-troll robo calls at her grandma’s today and her unprompted response was PPTTTTTTTHHHHHHHHTT! and a quick hang up. She says she wants to start her own blog called BushSucks.com but I told her it was already taken. I was luck enough to meet Jane, CTBob and Spazeboy at the Ct blogger meetup and they were all very gracious and a lot of fun. Back to your regularly scheduled thread….(re-dons invisibility cloak)
Eureka 154
SMOOCH!
Don’t know ’bout y’all, but I’m just full of jealousy that Spazeboy got to be with the beautiful Hamsher at this event! After the revolution, she can be our permanent rep on the talk shows…
I visit 6-8 progressive blogs on a regular basis. One of the unique features of FDL is the “sense of community” that Jane and Christy have created. People who drop in only occasionally may not understand…and may expect what they get at other blogs. This is definately a place for people who have some shared values.
In January, 2001, I headed out to the a cargo terminal at JFK to welcome Bill and Hillary as new residents of my city. While as a gay progressive I had disagreed with alot of his policies to say the least, I had developed an adoration as he fought off the right-wing attack machine. Also I had met him years earlier, when he was governor of Arkansas, at a regional international education meeting, and I assure you his rep for charisma is not overstated. His sincere belief in the good of international education to change the person and the culture was absolutely on target. And, as a poor kid from the sticks who did make his overseas dream happen I identified with his similiar narrative.
I remember standing in line for hours outside the hangar in the flats of JFK with the wind whipping in off the Atlantic to get in with a wonderful mix of New Yorkers — black, white, latino, union guys, old hippy couples and everything in between. Finally got in to the unheated hangar where we waited more.
The hangar (and the entry process) was very delineated into VIP and the rest of us — telling portrait of the Democratic party these days. And in the terminal we waited & froze, waited and froze, separated into class by velvet ropes and entertained by a mostly black high school band from Far Rockaway.
Finally, you could see AF1 pull up on the snowy tarmac, and Bill & Hillary eventually came down the stairs. The crowd went wild, lots of people holding their kids on their shoulders to see, cheering and clapping. Bill and Hillary both spoke briefly (and we didn’t see anyone off-loading furniture, paintings and the like from the plane as would later be alledged and reiterated by the media). In fact, the media hardly had a presence at the event, it almost seemed intimate in the giant hangar and a thousand or so New Yorkers.
I’m glad I froze that day in January & was there to welcome them, which makes my disappointment in Bill’s antics in support of Lieberman (to say nothing of Hillary’s performance as a Senator) all the more disappointing, profoundly disappointing. The saddest thing is that opportunism the media & Republicans accused them of has turned out to be true.
Leisler NYC -
What a fantastic remembrance. Thanks for sharing.
Maybe OT, if there is one at this point, but important to me. I DID IT!
Below is what I sent to Sen. DeWine just now, in what is an ongoing(?) dialog tw’ me & at least staff-member(s) in his ofc over the latest Specter-follies. I tried to pry [them] out of [pre-canned statement mode].
Again, I’m out of my normal element here. If I made major boo boo’s, someone PLEASE let me know. I’m not too shy to “fix” a re-mailing to make corrections of content or emphasis.
Without further ado, here’s the latest earnest salvo ;->
…………………
e-mail 20060726
Dear Senator DeWine:
I appreciate your reply and nice long message I received today but, in the end, I want to know how your proposed legislation differs from that of Sen. Specter which, basically, released the Executive Branch from ANY oversight by Congress unless the Executive Branch voluntarily sought such scrutiny of their activities.
In short, how does Senator Specter’s scenario or your S. 2455, either one, answer the problems created by allowing the Executive branch of government operate without proper oversight by the other branches of our government, as written into law by the founders of our country?
How, and WHY, are you so willing to sign away this basic part of our government’s foundation?
If it is hard for you to imagine the danger from your support of such a risky change, try to imagine an Executive branch filled with people with whom you totally, fundamentally DISagree, on method of governance. Would you then feel the same about offering S. 2455 for adoption as law of our precious land?
I look forward to hearing from you on this issue.
Jenny, my other Clinton memory is when Hillary was running for Senate — the Times had sniffed down their nose at her, and the electronic media was still hostile (my how they’ve all changed), and they were gleefully predicting her loss. I remember standing on 5th Avenue near 14th St watching the Gay Parade go by that June — suddenly, down the canyon of buildings there was this slow roar building up — for Hillary, the crowd went into this frenzy. I knew at that moment she would win, despite the media smears and the like. And it happened, she did win, which makes the subsequent history, well, you know.
Leisler NYC -
Yeah, I know. SIGH.
…And now, Clinton is calling us CT Dems on behalf of the great one…. this in the form of a piece of his speech given at Waterbury that says something to the effect of Joementum is a wonderful Dem and a great American for condeming me for lying..I’m a bad boy, spank me Mommmy…
um, not exactly, but its an auto call on my answering machine and it pisses me off because, as usual with Joe and the rest of the Republicans, I have no say and there is no room for my reply!
Dont Call me, Lieberman campaign…or if you do, do it in person so I can tell you exactly what I think of your boy!
Bill Clinton…youve got some splainin’ to do! I know that there is some misguided effort to distance yourself from Hillary or something…maybe guilt for Monica or some deep horrible truth still left to surface…the old self destructive streak in action, but think of your party, Bill…Fer chrissakes! we’re fighting for our lives here!

Adie –
That’s a TERRIFIC letter. One teensy little oopsy there, though, a missing word:
“by allowing the Executive branch of government operate without proper oversight”
should be
“by allowing the Executive branch of government to operate without proper oversight”
Oh, one more little thing: lose the comma between “DISagree” and “on the method of governance” in the third sentence from last.
Other than that? Perfect, IMO. Very well expressed!!! (May I “borrow” from you??)
Mrs K8
Oh THANK YOU! I was so afraid I was out in left field as to subject matter & how to refer to it. Frankly, it was a bit of a leap on my part guessing what DeW’s newly tweeked legislation amts to.
Appreciate the correction on typos, xtra commas & such. It went out in that unedited form to the esteemed Mr DeW. But maybe that can help impress on him that it expresses real feelings of a bonafide constituent, not just a canned copy of something. (besides, poor fella knows me from my earlier pesterings, heh heh)
By all means use any & all, if it’ll help you. I often have to ‘borrow’phrasing to pretend I know what I’m talking about to the pols. ‘Reading’ people/animals is kinda my field, but law & govtal workings I need lots of help with, to sound as if I know what I’m talking about.
FDL folks are especially helpful that way. Much appreciated.
Thanks again. ;->
hi kids,
sorry, i was out all day, i didn’t see this wonderful post from jane, thanks so much my friend for the traffic.
if anyone was wondering, don’t worry, i didn’t use my nom de blog (skippy tbk) when calling, i used my real name.
and tho i was polite, i was also quite passionate, especially at the part about “is this what the democratic party has come to?”
matt stoller at mydd is reporting that lieberman’s going to saturate the connecticut airwaves w/pics of him and clinton from the speech on monday, so now’s not the time to let up on our efforts!!
Clinton must see the great energy and progressivism of the Lamont crowd, yet he has chosen to alienate it for a worthless piece of crap like Lieberman. Perhaps it is a side effect of his bypass operation.
Clinton was always a snake-oil salesman, which is why I never voted for him. I didn’t vote for the Republican either–I voted Libertarian as a protest vote.
I’ve never understood Democrats’ fascination with Clinton.
