Maxine Waters is the head of the "Out of Iraq" caucus in the House and she knows how to show up for what she believes in. CTBlogger put together a great clip of Maxine's weekend stumping for Ned, this despite being injured in a car accident on Saturday in the rain (we're very happy that she, our own Matt Browner-Hamlin and the BBC's James Rogan all walked away from a vehicle that did not fare so well). Maxine and Marcy Kaptur defied the incumbency protection racket to come and campaign on principle and their passion is evident in the piece. State rep. Peter Tercyak, who has taken time off as a nurse to work full time on the Lamont campaign, also has some good moments.
CTBlogger also has a very good piece on his history of covering the Lamont campaign and his own development as a video blogger. Highly recommended.

So, what about you and Spazeboy being denied entry to the Clinton event?
Hey. My First Zero!
Maxine!
Ok, now that that’s out of the way, hi Jane. :)
Can’t wait to hear your tale of getting denied at tonight’s Bushco scripted event.
You sure find a way to make a big impression. :)
Hi, everybody! I just got home from my crazy day today, from this morning at the candy store (where Barbara Boxer seriously must have been sucking on a Sour Patch Kid or something) to the Clinton event (where our Spazeboy got his ticket yanked away from him by a Lieberman staffer who recognized him as a blogger) to the great Ned Lamont event tonight where everyone was welcome, no one was vetted beforehand, and everyone got to ask questions.
I just watched CTBob’s great video from this morning — I’m totally in awe of him for his courage! Thanks to everyone who wrote such supportive and kind comments. Jane has made me promise to write a write-up about it to put it in context later tonight, but right now I’m just taking a breather!
Thanks to everyone for cheerleading for us!
Marua speaks! Way to go!
Maura :: you also made NBC News with your handmade anti-war sign held up against the window of the closed-off candy store !

And, while we’re waiting to hear from Jane and/or Spazeboy about the Clinton thing…. I found this really old article that I had missed before (link above). It is great…
Jane & Her Poodles Get The Story

Nothing good for Lieberman is going to come from spazeboy getting his ticket yanked…since when does being a blogger mean you’re not worthy?
Oh, yeah…when you’re Joe “Cab Ride” Lieberbaby, and you’re scared of the rabid lambs…spazeboy, were you foamin’ at the mouth or somethin’?
Maura!
Also … who wants a pony? Bush at 31%.

Oops that poll is old. Sorry. (Sigh)
the LieberTroopers should ignore Spazeboy and Jane — it’s Maura that they gotta muzzle ! She’s the feisty and mouthy one!
Okay, THIS one is recent.

Maura, your actions today were nothing less than heroic. Thank you.
*ilson46201 #8 — The woman with the handmade anti-war sign at the candy store wasn’t me. I forget her name actually, but she was really brave. She stayed outside during the little speechifying, and the Lieberman staffers tried to elbow her sign out of the shots. I’m glad she got on TV!
BTW, which NBC news? (Local or national?)
The way I see it, Clinton missed an opportunity to meet YOU.
I saw it on M$NBC so it was national!
Yeah Maura! You were awesome today!
Maura!!! You rock!!!

From link above:
Somewhere around Meriden I realized Hamsher was breaking two Connecticut laws at once: the dashboard needle tugged at the 90 mark, and she was dialing and talking on the celly while steering….
Hamsher dialed Firedog staffer Christy Hardin Smith in West Virginia and dictated a post. Racing a parallel track along the blogosphere and the Connecticut interstate, she wanted to have the story first….
After the press conference, she drove to Lamont HQ in Meriden for the challenger’s press conference. Along the way she reviewed the “money quote” from Lieberman’s event (”I have loyalties that are greater than those to my party”), then phoned in another post to Hardin. They highlighted the quote in a box; it would soon show up on other blogs….
you were on both NBC and MSNBC, Ms. Maura! Kudos!

Way to go Maura! You’re one hell of an interviewer. No weenies for you! Hope our love and appreciation makes up for it.
I think this is the first time I’ve ever heard Marcy speak in public. She’s pretty amazing. Anyone know if she has Presidential aspirations somwhere down the road? :)
Maxine is always great but I hadn’t seen Marcy before and she is the most awesome interview …knows how to make every sentence a soundbite for Ned! I love seeing a real pro in action.

Re:MaryAnn at 7:16 pm on the Zogby poll showing a close race between Ford (D) and Corker (R, the likely winner of their primary). Zogby got the Kerry-Bush result badly wrong as a near tie in TN in a couple of his polls, whereas the Mason-Dixon people got the double digit Bush margin real close. That said, Ford does get a lot of praise for running a smart campaign, even though he makes Lieberman almost look like Michael Moore by comparison. This is TN, people (like “Forget Jake, it’s Chinatown.”)

A point worth noting, and known well around these parts but not explicitly stated, is that Net Neutrality is a stance in favor of maintaining the status quo of ‘all packets are created equal, and handled and delivered with equal ‘priority’ from a website to your PC and vice versa. Sen. Ted Stevens chairs a committee that has a bill proposed that would create a ‘fast lane’ for certain packets (a way for Telecoms to extort cash from sites like Amazon, etc, thus double dipping - your subsription fee, plus vig from sites paying for the ‘premium’ upgraded speed of THEIR packets. Many ‘not for profit’ and educational sites and their users would suffer under second class packet status.
I think that sums up the situation as it stands. A vote FOR net neutrality is a vote to continue riding the Net as it exists now. The proposed Stevens bill is move to create brave new net and otherwise override the original design. (which, frankly, is what I object to most…it’s a kludge solution for something that ain’t broke.) Just in case anyone might not be aware of what the term Net Neutrality is about. There are amendments to Stevens’ bill which would kill the priviledged tier of premium high speed content, thereby maintaining the ‘neutral’ equal priority packet delivery currently in use.

From the sounds of it, the Leiberyouth are in possession of a very special deck of playing cards.

I think Maura is going to find it harder and harder to get close enough to Joe to ask him anything.

Great job today! Really inspiring….
Good grief. I just saw a clip of Condi’s sit down visit with Lebanese officials around a harkness table that revealed she was wearing her sunglasses on top of her head the whole time. As tacky as the display was, it’s also hard to imagine a more glaring symbol of the political hit and run that occurred.
Eli at 39 - It is apparently going to become extremely difficult for ANYONE to ask Lieberman ANYTHING.
According to Spazeboy, Lieberman just cancelled his only upcoming public appearance that anyone is aware of (it was going to be tomorrow).
Lieberman is running scared right now and his actions are telegraphing his fear and weakness.

wxyz 42, I would suggest that Ned start asking why Joe is hiding from his own constituents, but:
A) He probably doesn’t need to, and
B) That’s the kind of question that’s probably better asked by proxies (Weicker? Swan?).
Muzzy - Condi was protecting her eyes from the white phosphorous perhaps?
Lebanese ministers and hospitals are confirming its use … CNN to report on this momentarily.

the Senate will be meeting tomorrow — will Joe be in DC or CT ? It is usually considered acceptable for incumbents in hot races to blow off a lot of votes (unless it’s a squeaker where the party leadership needs your vote)
Eli at 48 - I would also note that this is only a continuation of a pattern for Lieberman.
He’s been AWOL from his state for over a decade - spending his time in D.C. on Fox News and rarely even visiting with the constituents he is supposed to represent.
Now he is in the state but hiding from the public.
But there is a difference. Before he was AWOL out of arrogance and entitlement. Now he is hiding out of fear of real public scrutiny and tough questions about his support for a failed president.
Darkblack,
What else would a true-red Democrat wear to the State of the Union to capture the leaders nose and bring him in for the kiss of death?

It’s one thing to try to beetle away from public questions from hard-hitting citizens like Maura and CTBob… and quite another to deny entry to a public event (where, apparently one had to give a SSN to get a ticket in the first place). Part one, Lieberman is a coward if he tries to avoid Maura. Part two, LiebermanCo. is actively suppressing participation in a public event where he might get to hear differing views, a la BushCo. I really do think that the denial of entry for Jane and Spazeboy is an outrageous violation of the peoples’ right to know and to participate in the political process.
yes, siun, the Pieta you so aptly titled. ;(
I’m beginning to get this picture in my head of Joe just plain running all over CT, looking over his shoulder so often his head looks like it is getting ready to spin, keeping an eye out for Jane, the poodles, spazeboy, Maura, and The Kiss float. As fast as he runs, and as often as he keeps looking over his shoulder, when he looks straight ahead…well, there they are! Every out-of-the-way “event,” every closed candy store, every street corner, every rope line…he sees you in his sleep - the pumpkin loaf crumbs on Kobe’s muzzle send him screaming into the night…
He can run (or limp along), but he can’t hide…
Bwahahahahah…

There does seem to be a common thread of “We tried to meet with him but he was rude and/or blew us off” in a lot of the Lieberman stories I’ve heard, and all of those snubbees seemed very happy for an opportunity to nail him for it.
Which I’m totally down with.
Please, can someone from Connecticut ask Joe how he could go on Sean Hannity’s show every week after Hannity wrote a book equating liberalism with terrorism?

There does seem to be a common thread of “We tried to meet with him but he was rude and/or blew us off” in a lot of the Lieberman stories I’ve heard, and all of those snubbees seemed very happy for an opportunity to nail him for it.
And the truly amazing thing is how well his campaign has picked up on these “threads” of thought.
Last night I saw a commercial for Lamont wherein they were asking people from various towns “Have you seen Lieberman?” announcing each town’s name as they went along. And in each town the people would say something like “Nope, he’s not been here.” Or “No, I’ve never seen him.”
The closer was something like “apparently Lieberman doesn’t know his Haddam from his Ashton.” And then the Lamont plug.
Man, their campaign has been incredible in addressing the various concerns of those in CT.
Yep, me & Spazeboy had tickets and we got tossed. We went over to the open-to-the-public Lamont event across town where everyone was welcome, even LieberStaffers. You know, the place where they didn’t have to pay people to cheer.
Lots of Democratic Town Chairs who had been ignored and treated like shit by Lieberman for years. BBC got great footage of Myrna Watanabe, DTC who has written in to Swing State Project before. Lieberman’s been ignoring them since his 2000 run and let me tell you, their ire has nothing to do with the blogs.

Woah! Jane and Spazeboy denied entrance?!!!! Never mind the sartorial advice… this is gonna be big news, if I know my Jane.
SharonW @ 80
That’s the genius of Bill Hillsman
My favorite part of Spazeboy and Jane’s story of getting booted from the Clinton event is what the Lieberman staffer said to Spazeboy.
“You’re a protester!” he said.
“No, I’m a DEMOCRAT,” Spazeboy responded.
But they still didn’t let him in. It’s scary that Lieberman needs to keep his events secret and then totally sanitize the crowd of the only public event he has. People had to provide their SSN’s! I mean, how much more like Bush can he get?
M at 87:
And it should be big news. Since when does a Democrat not allow room for dissent? Clearly, he’s afraid of tough questions or has something to hide…
Just like GWB.
(Cue the float).
OT but …
an interview with Markos will be featured on Nightline tonight (11:35 ET) and the full interview is available here:
http://abcnews.go.com/US/story.....amp;page=1
we shipped them some YKOS footage so it could be fun.
McCain is on the Daily Show but Jon Stewart is being rough !
Hillsman is a wizard, and so’s Ned for hiring him! (But you knew that.)
Joe’s last hope: announce that he’ll abide by the primary results. Go on the air, hat in hand, and ask CT Dems to consider him in the primary. It’s time to show Democrats that he can compromise for the good of the party, even at his own expense. It’s the last shot he has.
Or - a My Dog Checkers speech. Which would be fun, and be legendary for decades.
John, well then, Mr. Hillman rocks! He’s been creating some kick-ass TV commercials for Lamont. And a multitude of them, I might add, although there are some that get a lot more play than others.
Perhaps it has something to do with where they buy their ad space because, if my memory serves me correctly (and this was late last night so take that with a grain of salt), it was on a cable network rather than local.
The local ads seem to focus on the kids he taught recently.
And there was that great Katrina-type ad I’ve only seen twice, wherein it begins with the flood, but each issue was framed like people waiting for help with Katrina-like “Help us” signs as if adrift in a catastrophe of similar makings.
Most excellent work.
Oh, and as I so memorably said last week, fuck the Clintons.
Political celebrity bullshit is so X years ago. We’re on our own, we’re it, no rockstars, we simply have a country to save. This CT people power movement truly an inspiration.
Ned! Spazeboy! Maura! Kobe!
Wonder what Joe’s gonna do tomorrow instead of playing peep-eye wid da public.
Maybe his scheduler now has him down for 24 hours in the fetal position?
Today was supposed to be Lieberman’s big day for a counterpunch to Lamont, with both Boxer and Big Dog in the state.
In the final analysis, I just don’t see today’s events making any positive impact on Lieberman’s standing in the polls…
Maura @ 89:
I keep pretending that the White Rose Society can’t happen here but where are we really going with these crowd sanitizations with Dear Leader in various forms?
Okay, that is a bit melodramatic. What I really wanted to say was THANK YOU for stepping up and speaking out. I could only hope that I could be you if the situation presented itself.
…And, Lieberman has failed to even pretend like he generated any momentum today.
He stepped all over his positive PR from today by cancelling his only scheduled public event.
The comparison to Clinton, master of the public appearance, is not flattering.
Maura- you are a champ! I read here before that asking for SSNs is standard for something or other– appearances by ex-Presidents? I got the idea that this was not a Lieberman invention. Nonetheless, the idea that the Lieberman crew was on red alert for protesters does tell the story, no? Like, he might get asked some difficult questions he couldn’t answer? I mean, why were Jane and Spazeboy such threats? To me, this is so far the lowest of the low, in many of the same, re: the Lieberman campaign on behalf of the Incumbency Party.
it was smart of Lamont to have a big public event after the Clinton Splash so his campaign could refocus back properly …
Jane,
Why were you tossed from the event? Have you gone to the media with the story yet?
“You’re a protester!” he said.
“No, I’m a DEMOCRAT,” Spazeboy responded.
Absolutely unreal, and a great response by Spazeboy. Lieberman couldn’t put himself in a more Bush-light than to have pulled shit like that.
Incidentally, Moura, my hurrahs go out to you, girl. You done tossed my confetti with your direct, sincere questions to Boxer without backing down and that takes major sugar balls. I qualify with sugar because you are a lady and carried yourself as such. ;)
LieberTroopers, dammit! use LieberTroopers to describe Joe’s anti-democratic screeners !
Except for, maybe, treating us to his contralto, I can’t think of a single thing Ned’s done all campaign that hasn’t been very smart, *ilson.
Katharine Jefferts Schori, the Presiding Bishop Elect of the Episcopal church, and the first woman to be elected to that role, was on CBS Evening News last night. In case you missed it and are interested in what she had to say, I’ve posted a transcript here.
Anyone thought of how amazing it is that Jane has gotton so many people from all over the country to not only care, but call, email and blog about a Connecticut race? I’ve never even been to Connecticut. Well done Jane and everyone for caring enough about a a rag-tag group of strangers that have come to feel like ‘family’ and for energizing a movement that will take back the country from the criminals, lackeys and the just plain, stupid.

I really do have to hand it to you Maura, you handled yourself with aplomb, and by doing so, it made Boxer’s meltdown look that much worse.
BTW, my absolute favorite local news broadcast tonight contrasted Lieberman’s event with Clinton with Ned’s appearance at a health care facility in Hartford, I think. People in wheelchairs were smiling and clapping while Ned played keyboards and jammed with another musician. It was awesome.
The Lamont campaign did a great job managing the press today. On the 3 local broadcasts I watched (one that interviewed me, too!), they gave at least equal time to Lamont, if not more. It was AMAZING given that Clinton was in town and I’m sure the Liebercampaign thought he would suck up all the coverage. But Ned really stood out - affable, genuine, smiling, enthusiastic, positive. It was great.
Someone PLEASE have Jane send me her e-mail addrss! Anyone send me her e-mail address - please!! I’ve been doing some research on her favorite CT Senator (current) and it may not be news to her or the people of CT, but it was news to me! Joe Lieberman has some very questionable associations with some people/institutions that are taking the US of America straight down the road to hell…
I want to make sure that Jane and the Lamont campaign have this information. Knowing what I know now, there is no way I would vote for him as a Dem, R or I.
Jane, you have my e-mail address! Please send me yours so I can get this information to you!
Who was tossed or barred from the Lieber-Clinton event?
I was invited to attend Bush’s Bamboozle Palooza event with friends, who became the Denver Three when they were booted.
I declined, and ended up sitting next to a hard core GOPer, who asked me why the Democrats didn’t nominate someone reasonable — like Joe Lieberman.
My Response? No Way, Jose — Democrats have no use for Bush’s favorite (Vichy) Democrat.
