…and your little dog too… 190

Apologies for huge delay - got called away to loooong phone call from bro. Hope you’re still around, or come back. Got the musings below started before the call, & will just finish it off for what it’s worth…
-

I can’t quite get a clear handle on what the difference is, either, in how CNN, & a bunch of others, treat w. I have returned to lurking in the tvnews scene a little more, recently, to try to figure out what they’re doing, & how, what with all the recent anchor & ownership changes. Seems a mixed bag (none of it good), and probably will be in flux for some time now.

Networks obviously wanna play at being “with-it” with the blog scene, sometimes with unintended, rather hilarious results. A lot of the anchors, even more ’seasoned’ ones, are lurching around almost at random, with their coverage & slants on stories — maybe trying to use poll indicators to improve their own ratings??? what else? That’s all I can figure.

Maybe they’re feeling whip-sawed tw’ white house pressure & great mysterious forces they can’t understand emanating from the dreaded blogmonsters. I just wish they’d report real news, straight and honest, but everyone seems to want to spin these days, & be distracted by faux news.

Agreed, everything I’ve ever turned up points to this week’s ugly display by w being the ‘norm’ for him always. Molly Ivins pretty well nailed that for me (Bushwacked, etc. etc.). Nothing new, except handlers usually manage to muffle it somewhat in public. Still, that awful sneer, the hurtful nicknames, speak volumes. No one’s buddy, really. Totally lookin’ out for #1. Always an undercurrent of anger & resentment, boredom, restlessness of a spoiled brat used to being entertained.

I don’t know what to make of all the comments from people saying the openmike performance was deliberate. Looking at the clip, it seemed Blair was quick, yet very calm & deliberate in turning off that mike - didn’t show any hint of surprise/shock that it was on. But then, he’s a very smooth, cool guy. Jr. seemed oblivious, literally. New thot? Would Blair have left it on on purpose, without telling w, in hopes the “real” unvarnished w would indeed be heard.
maybe a poodle, but a sneaky one?
gotta go. talking too much w/o making sense.
Thanks for your thots. Sure helps to mull things over with the folks here.
FDL is a special place in the universe ;->

Bush as president is a head of state. As such, his manners should equal the queen’s own.

Blair is a commoner, a head of government.

His manners should be those of his people.

G-8 and UN just might be sympathetic enough to back Bush in attacking Iran/Syria should a false scenario which PNAC created cause Iran/ Syria to attack Israel. — Would Iran/Syria see through all this, and resist attacking? — Could UN and G-8 see through this madness?

We know Bush’s normal pace is impatience. We have an election coming up in Nov. and he must get this going, to accomplish PNAC’s plan.

“…Gotta go home. Got something to do tonight,”

Yeah, important stuff like riding His bike! Don’t these inconsiderate people know Dear Leader needs His exercise? How dare they waste His time with trivialities like world trade and Mid-East violence…

Kyle @ 223: Good point! But I bet that little bit of irony will be lost on Bush. Nuance isn’t the only thing Bush doesn’t do. Add irony, critical thinking, self-examination….

I’m sure it’s too much to hope far, but perhaps this little incident will help Bush understand what it feels like to have someone listen in on your private conversation without your knowing it.

mmr, you said:
“My read remains: We’re overstretched. We can’t do anything if Iran decides to up the ante; Iran knows this, which is why they’re forcing our hand through Hezbollah’s attack on Israel. Israel responds aggressively, as they are wont to do, and we end up with this conflict. If it escalates, this is only good for Iran and Islamic fundamentalists who want to see Israel removed once and for all. So, as long as they’re starting stuff, they should stop it. They aren’t gonna, because there’s nothing really we can do about it, and nothing anyone else can do about it. Israel knows this, which is probably why they react as forcefully as they do; it’s the equivalent of a puffer fish puffing up and shooting out spines to discourage predators.”

I posted above a comment from bradblog.com which really answers your question:

“So, what could the maestros of this messy scene have in mind? … Anger Iran and Syria enough, perhaps, just perhaps, their foulest dreams would come true! They might attack Israel, and then, the father of all nightmares for us all. The G-8 would back Bush to begin the war on Iran and Syria that MSM has been hoping for.”

But with his transparency by being himself with microphone open, which I believe was staged to anger Syria and Iran, he should have ruined the show.

Watching the footage of President Bush speaking to Tony Blair at the G8 summit, I have to say, the expletive he used is the least of what bothered me.
As he sat sprawled out in the chair and chomped his food with his mouth open, my immediate thought is that he looks like he’s either drinking again or medicated, which would also explain his performance at the German press conference, where he couldn’t stop thinking about that pig. Was it the munchies?
If he isn’t stoned, if this is sober George at a world summit, God help us all.
And what he did say didn’t help. Is this really the best the leader of the free world can come up with, “Get Syria to get Hezbollah to cut out this sh*t?”
That’s it?
Well, why didn’t someone think of that years ago! George just solved the problem!
Next he can fix poverty, “Them poor people just need to get some money and cut out that sh*t.”
And immigration, “Them furriners just need to be from here in the first place, no sh*t!”
Does the phrase, “sh*t for brains” have any relevance here?
