[…] [Cross-posted at Firedoglake on July 15, 2006] Earlier this week, the Republicans celebrated a reduction of the federal deficit to $296 billion (as opposed to the $400 billion projection in February) for the upcoming fiscal year. (ed. note: What a surprise. They botched an estimation. Business as usual in the Bush White House.) While members of the GOP did endzone dances in celebration of the fourth highest deficit — ever — there were some interesting developments this week with government spending on Bush’s misadventure in Iraq and the underworld of war profiteering.

why are these fuckers still running the show? if there was any semblance of justice left in this country, this whole cabal would be locked up in the hague. but, they continue to murder, loot, and destroy with impunity. they will continue to do so for quite a while, imo. the election process is totally fixed, as are the courts, media, etc. welcome to the new america.

Eli at 125 The latest events really do set the stage for the next terrorist attack to be blamed on Iran.

Choice of:

Thwarted attack because of NSA. Works best for the elections about Sept/early Oct.

Actual attack on or slightly offshore US “identified” as being from Iran. Remember tiny news article about teams of specialists being able to identify nuclear traces? Makes me nervous.

Matt re military service:

I will pass along the same advice as what I gave my 14 year old son right after 9/ll when he was eager to enlist.

First of all, you don’t join the <strike>cannon fodder</strike> Army. You join the Navy.

Second, if you REALLY want to contribute, help figure out the CAUSES of this extreme violence.

I’d be happy to steer you toward Option Two.

Re making our wounded vets pay for hospital food, Howie Klein, you here? FDL folk, we need -references- to pass along to Brown. Help?

Donna Marie posted at my humble little newbie blog

Egregious,
I just attended Charlie Brown’s grand opening of his headquarters and I spoke to his Communications director about this issue. Both Charlie (a retired Lt. Colonel from the Air Force) and his Comm. Director are heavily involved in Veteran’s issues. The Comm. Dir. was somewhat hesitant to except this as a given, saying that he had heard some things but nothing definitive. I, like you, see this as a huge issue–yes there are many egregious(love the moniker) issues with the current administration regarding Vets treatments–but, to me, this is a stinging arrow. What I am looking for is more documentation so that I can feed my candidates campaign. I’m going to go back through the fdl posting that address this to find any good links–but meanwhile, if you see anything please pass it on to dnajoy@gmail.com. Btw: thank you for your generous donation to Charlie. We need folks like you to defeat Doolittle (the 6th most powerful Congressperson and one of the vilest of vile). Blessings.

Talk about crumbling construction and Parsons - the Big Dig in Boston brought to us by Bechtel Parsons Brinckerhoff - had a concrete ceiling panel fall and crush a passenger. The concrete may not have been freshly mixed. Anyhow, other of their construction projects around the country will be inspected to see if this is a pattern.

Matt–late to the topic and I really zipped thru comments so this may’ve been said re dwi #10 and your reply #11. Follow the patterns. This is not the first time a Texas whopper has been followed by a marginally “better” number. Whether it’s cookin’ the books or gamin’ the system, they do know what to project and it’s awful. By putting out a really awfuler number first, the Deciderer gets to pretend things are great. And the MSM gets to enable him.
