. Holy Joe has boatloads of cash and he’s spending it like a drunken sailor — $5 million to date, and $4.2 in the bank. It’s a FUCKING ENORMOUS amount of money to spend in a state like Connecticut, and he will end up outspending Lamont 2 to 1 — doing nothing positive and going on the air with hateful, mean spirited attacks. If anyone wants to know how the defense industry, the pharmaceutical industry and soul-sucking lobbies like NARAL and HRC go about buying themselves a Senator, this is how it’s done.
Maybe it’s time some journalists start giving the same scrutiny to Lieberman’s finances and stop printing Joe’s endless whining about Ned? And when exactly does Mr. Transparency plan to release the list of Hadassah’s pharmaceutical lobbying clients, so we can all see how much Holy Joe has done for them?
One of the things Joe’s spending on — direct mailers that call Ned a war profiteer. No this is not satire from the man who is the #1 recipient of defense industry lobbying money in the Senate. Can you say projection? Said one person who is diligently working to support Ned Lamont, "this is going to make kicking Joe’s ass all that much sweeter."
. Okay I swear to Kobe I have not been huffing glue, there is a surprisingly good rundown of the Lieberman/Lamont race on…the Christian Broadcasting Network (YouTube above, courtesy Spazeboy). They interview Branford Boy of My Left Nutmeg, CTKeith of Dump Joe, Maura is seen by the float, Tom Swan makes an appearance (as does the Kiss Float), and Monk’s famous graphic of Lieberman as Bush’s lapdog also sneaks in. Money quote from Holy Joe himself:
What my opponent is saying, and some of the hotheads who support him, is that if you’re not 100%, you’re not with us. When any political party begins to apply that kind of test, I think it’s already on the way to being a minority party.
Feel free to insert your own punchline. Joe is just making it too easy — this is baby’s game.
. The GOP candidate Schlessinger is actively being nudged out by state GOP party dons:
Schlesinger was urged by Gov. M. Jodi Rell and GOP Chairman George Gallo on Wednesday to consider abandoning his Senate bid after they learned he used a fake name while gambling at Foxwoods Resort Casino in the 1990s.
It’s probably moot if Joe wins the primary, but if he ditches the party many seem to think the GOP are laying the groundwork to clear out Schlessinger so they can freely endorse Lieberman. Others think they might run a more serious candidate, but nobody can really think of anyone likely to fit the bill.
. Ned talking to a debate team member at Young Democrats last night:
"I could use some pointers from you!" joked a jovial Lamont. "I’d watched the Cheney-Lieberman debate," said Lamont of a much more civil faceoff between vice-presidential nominees. "Then he comes out, and boom!" he said, referring to Lieberman’s surprising aggressiveness on the floor.
Ned probably would have been better prepared by watching Mexican wrestling. Or maybe just the Willie Horton ad.
. Tim Tagaris (Internet Communications Director for Ned Lamont) over at MLN, on the Family, Friends and Neighbors program:
As far as process stories about the U.S. Senate campaign go, there’s been an under-reported elephant in the room for quite some time now. We’re never going to match Senator Lieberman’s (Lieberman-CT) millions in corproate interest and political action committee cash. And frankly, we don’t want to. There’s one weapon in our arsenal that will trump his pharma funded smear campaign… and that’s you.
Ned Lamont’s "Family, Friends and Neighbors" Campaign
Using this online tool, you can send a postcard with a personalized message from you to your friends, family and neighbors in Connecticut. Later, you’ll follow up with phone calls to your personalized get-out-the-vote list to remind your network to vote for Ned on August 8.
This is a very exciting tool for GOTV. Please stop by and give it a test drive.
. Mark Schmidt , Josh Marshall and Atrios all point out the obvious, namely that the traditional media narrative has yet to trip over — Lieberman isn’t taking a beating because of the blogs no matter how much Holy Joe would like to believe it. Lieberman has a Connecticut Problem. Pure and simple. Digby finds an interesting statistic to back this up, which demonstrates that Holy Joe’s popularity took a local swan dive in 2005:
Now here’s the question. What happened in late 2005 that made Lieberman tank among Democrats? It certainly wasn’t blogofascist attention at that point.
I’m guessing it was this, which was picked up by all the local papers in Connecticut.
If Trent Lott told his Republican constitutents they were betraying the country by speaking out against a Democratic president, I suspect he’d find himself in the same straits as Joe Lieberman does today.
It was the straw that broke the camels back.
Nonetheless I expect to read many more reports that it is all a dastardly blogger plot. Don’t they know it’s all Lowell Weicker?

Just got through watching the press conference off CNN’s website…
Wow, Valerie Plame is a smooooking hottie!!!
She has has got to be our cutest spook ever
Anyone else watch that jackass Jeff Toobin on CNN claiming that from “what he has seen” the Wilsons have no damages. Who puts these idiots on the air!!!!
I really hope that the Wilson’s survive the FRCP 12(b)(6) or 12(c) motion Cheney, Rove, and Libby throw at them
I’m really having fun with FF&N, but I’m sad to say that Curtis Jackson (50 Cent) is not a registered voter. I was going to send him a postcard with lyrics to “21 questions” as my personal message.
If’n you live in CT, you must use FF&N, it’s the easiest way to reach out to everyone you know.
I snuck in a qickie zero post and then jumped up to Jane’s piece. The money quote for me is ;

“it’s already on the way to being a minority party.“
Wow. What can I say? That’s one of the stupidest fucking things I’ve ever heard.
Does anyone have the latest numbers? Last I heard, Joementum is still ahead in the polls and the primary is only a few weeks away.
FirePups who are newbies to political research should acquaint themselves with OpenSecrets.org. Campaign finance information is available there and easily searched; the data is pulled from FEC and state reporting.
In regards to Sen. Lieberman’s PAC monies received to date, I thought this was interesting, found under Single Issue/Ideology:
Democratic/Liberal PAC’s YTD 2006:
New Democrat Network $6.00 (yes, single digit)
Pro-Israel PAC’s YTD 2006:
Americans for Good Government $2,000
California PAC $1,000
Citizens Organized PAC $5,000
Grand Canyon Caucus $3,000
Hudson Valley PAC $2,000
Louisiana for American Security $2,500
National Action Cmte $10,000
National PAC $5,000
NorPAC $6,000
Northern Californians for Good Govt $5,000
SunPAC $5,000
To Protect Our Heritage PAC $1,000
Washington PAC $9,000
Women’s Alliance for Israel $10,000
While I will undoubtedly draw flames for this, I have to ask what country and state Sen. Lieberman really represents. NOTE that I have no beef with Israel; I have a problem with 1) Likud influences and 2) foreign influences on our democratic process. If you don’t like this attitude, try asking yourself what your reaction would be to a candidate who received this same amount of cash from North Korean or Chinese PAC’s.
I’m still looking at whether any of these PAC’s cited have a preponderance of Republican money.
And 6 bucks from NDN?? What does that tell you?

“I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use.” – Galileo Galilei
not start with the nitpicking again, but I wouldn’t describe Valerie Plame as “cute”. A cool elegant blonde (ex) CIA agent who was top of her class in marksmanship? Hitchcock is stirring in his grave.
Who is more tone-deaf? Joe or Pat?
That is one of the weirdest things I have ever seen. They do a full “expose” on the CT dem party and don’t see that they are just making the point. That Joe is not really a Dem.
And that bit of commentary at the end about things being too polarized . . . and the woman saying with an absolutely straight face that the “voters are fed up with it” is just too funny!
Joe agrees with Pat (and calls him on a long distance cell phone call to wish him well before prostrate surgery!!!) so that means he is not divisive?
Facists.
daCascadian — yeah we are definitely entering Onion territory in this race.
Joe seems to think that this is a one issue challenge, Iraq. What Joe doesnt understand is this. This ONE issue affect EVERYTHING. It affects foreign policy, it affect domestic policy. It affects fiscal policy. He just doesnt get it. Oh, and the other thing he doesnt get is that he is supposed to REPRESENT the people of Connecticut. If close to 80% of the people in Connecticut are opposed to something he had better be speaking to their concerns or expect to get his butt voted out for someone who will. This isnt about Joes principles, it is about what he is supposed to be doing in Congress!
yes, I am interested in poll numbers too (anyone???)
Dr. Bong at 12: FRCP (Federal Rules of Civil Procedure – applies to all civil cases filed in federal court) – 12(b)(6) allows any defendant to file a motion to basically end the case if the defendant can show that the Plaintiffs (the Wilsons) have failed to state a cause of action against the defendants (even if all the facts in the complaint are true)
I will be honest and say that I have no experience with a Bivens claim, but I think that the Defendants will try to end this case early by filing the 12(b)(6) motion – my understanding is that the 12(b)(6) route is one of the only ways to do this

Added up, that makes me just a lucky, lucky duck. Joe Lieberman is lucky too, because he likes to stop at diners on Fridays–imagine happening upon me again (the first time was no accident).
Just seeing the face of Pat Robertson makes me sick. But that’s because I practice safe sects.
Condomaniacs?
PS: I agree, “cute” was probably the wrong word….Valerie Plame looks like she could have been a “Bond” girl.
PPS: I wish they had better legal analysis regarding the claims on the air – heard Keith Olberman will have the Wilson’s attorney on his show tonight- I will be watching
Bush is refusing to press Israel for a ceasefire. Rove, the ultimate Machiavellian and unprincipled pol’s hand might be behind this. Non-humanitarian action on the president’s part would surely help puppet Lieberman, Bush’s favorite DINO, in his bid to defeat Lamont.
I just emailed Monk to let him know he made the 700 club. I think it’s gonna make his day.

oops. That would be “think Shrub would fuck up…”

What is disturbing to me is that I live in the same city as the North American Islamic Mother Mosque and there will be a ‘demonstration’ downtown by a group that will be protesting Israel’s bombing of Beruit. I sure as hell hope that nothing happens there.
OMG, has everybody seen the very brief and hilarious “Anything Joes” on spazeboy’s main page?
Jane,
I am so glad you are talking about Lieberman’s wife Haddassah’s connection to Big Pharma and Big Healthcare as a lobbyist. Highly questionable buckraking DLC senators’ wifes may be a commonplace. Just check out Evan Bayh’s wife Susan.
Just take a look at your other DLC favorite Evan Bayh.
Of course Evan Bayh is going to be the Democratic Nominee. Evan Bayh was not a bad Governor for Indiana and as a Senator he may be the best the state can do. I am saying this having grown up in Indianapolis. However he is massively tainted as a look out for number 1 DLC Democrat. His wife Susan is on the board of nine different corporations. The Bayhs having profited substantially from her connections over the years.
For a Democrat who should be listening to the grass roots’ and more and more small and large businesses’ call for single payer national health insurance, Bayh is wildly out of touch. Bayh seems to be still clinging to outdated DLC style employer based private health insurance solutions like the insanely complex and rejected Hilarycare.
Gee I wonder why, Evan Bayh is so out of step on National Health Insurance. Could it possibly have anything to do with his wife Susan earning over $550.000 in 2005 alone in stock options from Indianapolis based Wellpoint, the nations largest private health insurance provider? Being on the board of directors of a Fortune 500 is good work if you can get it.
See:
http://www.indystar.com/apps/p…..008/NEWS02
And Wellpoint is not just the nation’s largest health insurance corporation. They have a notorious reputation for not paying out claims and is the target of several national class action lawsuits. http://www.indystar.com/apps/p…..1839494608
Worse Wellpoint is expected to be a major target of Michael Moore’s long overdue documentary on Healthcare in the US. I hardly doubt Moore will give the DLC Vichycrats a pass for sucking up to the private health insurers and not supporting single payer legislation.
So folks the Bayhs’ background should make the entire Clinton era Whitewater horror show/media circus look especially tame in comparison. Even if their is nothing illegal with Susan Bayh and her 9 corporate directorships the voters are going to have a real problem with it.
What on earth is poor HoJo going to do when he runs for President in 2008…change his party name to USA for Lieberman?! :)
Urban Pirate (arrrrrrrrgggghhhhh!), don’t forget about Michelle Malkin.
concerning Evan Bayh: Hoosiers have long known that Susan is brains of the family …

Could have sworn I read a Raw Story piece yesterday about Schlessinger and the efforts to force him out. Can’t find it now. There was a quote from the Lt. Governor (?) who had been given marching orders by the Governor to back up her call for Schlessinger to step down. What struck me was that this guy said something like, (paraphrasing) “yeah, I called on him to withdraw, but only because the Governor told me I have to. Nobody takes it seriously”.

Yikes! Saints preserve us! The Adam’s apple on a stick known as Coulter was just interviewed by the Noron on Hardball.
Thankfully, I missed virtually the entire thing, only heard Noron say at the end “You heard it here first: Ann Coulter predicts the Democrats will retake Congress.”
WTF?
Can anyone fill me in on the atrocities in the interview itself?
UPDATE — The interview continues! Egads. Will have to watch it with captions. Ann’s voice is too galling.
Maybe if Lieberman just came out and said that Cheney was blackmailing him with compromising photos of him, Ann Coulter and a dachshund. And from this point on, he would be his own man and fight the corruption and lies of Bush and Cheney.
Then, perhaps we could forgive him and let him have another chance…no, I don’t think so. I could forgive the thing with the dachshund but Coulter, never.

I have a dachsund and he has better taste than AC.
Mrs. K8: That “not covert” thing is being trotted out. Bill Kristol said it this morning to Diane Rehm. Ambassador Wilson is going to be on her show on Monday, so, just a guess, I expect he’ll have an opportunity to comment on it. I assume that someone is still worried about a “substantive” crime being charged or the Wurlitzer would have found something else to lie about.

Re your remembering in # 38, I read the same thing, although I don’t *think* it was at Raw Story.
I think it’s a great way to handle such a thing: “Politician X is arm-twisting me to say Y. OK, I’ll say it, but I’ll also tell y’all about the arm-twisting.”
Wouldn’t it be great if a journalist wrote an article containing all the talking points, followed by a paragraph at the bottom: “The preceding spew was brought to you by Karl Rove and Mary Matalin, who both said “you’d better print this OR ELSE.”
Maybe if Lieberman just came out and said that Cheney was blackmailing him with compromising photos of him, Ann Coulter and a dachshund.

Iraqis Condemn Israeli Attacks
Both Sunni and Shiite clerics and politicians condemned the Israeli attack on Lebanon on Friday. The Friday sermons were thunderous. Money and resources will likely flow to Hizbullah and the Palestinians. More later.

(Just wanted to share this with y’all – don’t think Wes would mind)
Wes Clark (my POTUS candidate since 2003) has been live-blogging over at dailykos this afternoon and one of the posters asked him about the CT primary – this was his response:
CT Primary (14 / 0-)
“I am a proud member of the Democratic Party, and I believe it is our party’s responsibility to support the will of the Democratic primary voters in Connecticut. I personally look forward to supporting the candidate CT voters elect as the Democratic nominee. Though, as an aside, I must say I find it ironic that Senator Lieberman is now planning a potential run as an independent after he continually questioned my loyalty to the Democratic Party during the 2004 presidential primary.”
Ha! Take that, Joementum!

GSD,
That’s some pretty galling irony if it turns out that an Israel/Hezbollah war is what actually unites the Iraqi factions. Pretty much proof that the U.S. occupation is accomplishing exactly nothing.
Sounds like she’s been hitting the bong juice again.
Actually, I think she’s mainlining it.
Seriously, don’t these people realize they are now *officially* OVER THE TOP?
“Classified, but not cover.” I am dead certain that I wasn’t the only person watching with a WTF? reaction. Their poisoned psyches are unravelling for all to see. Ain’t a pretty sight.
And I guess y’all know that Adam’s-apple-on-a-stick headlined a Republican fundraiser at a snazzy hotel in Colorado which earned $0.00. [”What if they gave a fundraiser and nobody came?”] The waiters and waitresses enjoyed the cheese and crackers, though.
On and off topic:
Joe: My obviously-biased take is that he’s been in a death spiral ever since his “independent” announcement. I don’t see Republicans rushing to his aid, any more then Democrats would rush to aid Lincoln Chafee, and Joe’s not doing anything to win over independent voters. (Newsflash: They’re not happy about the war, either.) But like I said, I’m biased, so where’re the damn pollsters? I haven’t seen any new polling data since Joe’s “cut and run” announcement.
George: He CAN’T criticise Israel, and he sure as hell can’t make a big deal about blowing up a few innocent Lebanese civilians. We’ve whacked tens of thousands of Iraqis. Even in Bushworld, it would be hypocritical.
Valerie: Enter a beautiful, elegant blond woman. If there’s anything the current “news” media can do, it’s jabber on and on and on about a beautiful blond woman. You’re going to see a LOT more coverage on this case in the next few weeks.

If Lieberman goes down, I don’t mind a narrative that has “the blogs” partly responsible. The party dons on our side are trying to turn us into the collective Rodney Dangerfield of the Demccrats. With a little respect will come more listening to the grassroots, not just shaking us down for contributions.
I am occasionally treated to lectures on how the Democrats are captives of special interests in their base and that’s why they lose. The Repubs, however, take good care of their base–all of it–and they haven’t been losing elections as a result. I don’t see why Democrats should have to choose guys like Lieberman or Bob Casey in order to win.

Agh. $78,000 donated YTD 2006 to Joe-nertia by Defense Industry PAC’s.
One of the things to keep in mind while looking at the campaign donations is that some may be labeled as telecommunications or technology — when these are also PAC’s of companies that benefit from government-military contracts and more specifically, from contracts that are reviewed by the U.S. Senate Committee on on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, of which Joe-nertia is the ranking Dem.
More than $242,000 donated by Financial/Insurance industry, too. Hmm.
$93,000 from Healthcare PAC’s.
$25,000 from Chemical and Related Mfg. — and I know with absolute certainty that some of the companies that run these PAC’s also manufacture pharmaceuticals under contract to Big Pharma.
There are all kinds of nasty little furballs here in Joe-nertia’s pocketbook. Eck.

Susan in Iowa,
I’ve always despised the “special interest party” complaint as well. My normal response is simply to ask which “special” interest we progressives should drop. Should we tell our gay friends and neighbors that we cannot support their civil rights any longer? Should we tell our wives, sisters, girlfriends that their right to freedom over their own bodies just isn’t a winning issue for us? Should be we pretend the war in Iraq is something we all ought to support, as Lieberman suggests? I hear talk all the time about “litmus tests” but which issue(s) are we willing to give up on to seem more mainstream? I say these aren’t special interests; they’re a list of guiding principles that we shouldn’t be compromising on. The Right certainly doesn’t compromise on their’s and, right or wrong, it makes them look strong and decisive to the average, uninformed voter. There’s no strength, no principles and no electoral victory to be found by trying to be sort-of conservative and I don’t think we should be compromising on our core issues, even if they are called “special” by some.

Wouldn’t it be amazing and wonderful if our media put that principle into practice?
Leslie in CA,
Wouldn’t you think they’d teach that during Reporting 101 in J-school? I’m not a journalist but that seems pretty remedial to me…
Mrs. K8 – for the record, I am not switching to tea.
RE: … saying Valerie was “classified”, not “covert”.
Could we get an official response from CHS or a lawyer on this exact legal difference as it pertains to this case?
I know it is easy to dismiss, but I heard the exchange between Noron and “she who will not be named” and wondered if it had any LEGAL legs, so to speak. Thanks for any clarification!
Hey Leslie! That was a great opinion piece by Walter Pincus — here’s a link to the whole thing:
http://www.niemanwatchdog.org/…..ndid=00102
I liked it so much I sent Pincus this email:
On two essential and crucial points, there is, for this voter, no light shining between Joe Lieberman and Hillary Clinton. I am referring to both these individuals close association with the DLC, and much more importantly, their support for the Bush war in Iraq. The Democrats are in need of new blood. Senator Lamont would be an appropriate start in a much needed new Democratic path toward true progressive principles. And this self-made man would be a first rate representative of Connecticut, and I believe, present the true character of the people of the the United States.
Re: Covert/Classified
This is so much typical rethug bullshit. Only an agent or an operation can be covert, i.e. their status or existence as an agent/operation are secret.
A name cannot by definition be covert – what would you call her/him/it if you were not allowed to name it: she-who-must-not-be-named?
Her status was covert. The fact that she was covert would be classified.
for the record, I am not switching to tea.
Same here, punaise. It’s bad enough that Leaverman creates negative linguistic effects in his wake wherever he goes. But I draw the line at gustatory influence.

Clemons knows the Middle East and does not seem very optimistic at this point.

I don’t want to take a chance that she took “She that-who-will-not-be-named” at her word.

Strikethrough SHE. hmm. preview worked, publication didn’t. sorry for the multi-posts.
Good for Wes!
I wonder if anyone is ever gonna ask any of our candidates or presidential hopefuls what they think of the current war in the ME…
I am very interested in any responses.
By all means, Jaqrat.

I just knew you wouldn’t let me down, punaise! How do you manage to think like that (punny wordplay)? And is it something you can turn on and off?
Thanks for always making me smile.

Not sure Steve Clemons is right on this one. Here’s the AP blurb on the same event:
—————————————
“Hundreds of Palestinians Stream Into Gaza From Egypt After Militants Blow a Hole in Border Wall
The Associated Press
RAFAH, Gaza Strip – Hundreds of Palestinians poured into the Gaza Strip from Egypt on Friday after militants blew a hole in the border wall, an Associated Press reporter at the scene said.
The border has largely been closed since June 25, when Palestinian militants carried out a cross-border raid on a military outpost, killing two Israeli soldiers and capturing one.
Hundreds of people have been stranded on the Egyptian side of the border, unable to get to their homes in Gaza.”

Of course the AP could have it wrong too…
As a non-drinker (waving to Jane) I always use coffee to attain my target heart rate. If it weren’t for coffee, I would have no personality whatsoever.
Mrs. K8 @ 2:29 pm (#43) – Ann says “Valerie’s identity was classified, but not covert.”
I don’t know what Ann we’re referring to here, but non-official cover, which was Valerie Wilson’s status at the CIA before Novakula bit her, is undercover, almost by definition. I found this declassified description of an NOC’s work here. It describes some of the disadvantages of such status:

Perhaps Ann ought to take a gander.

I wonder if most Americans could imagine going to work and having to deal with what Palestinians do on a daily basis to live, work, function.
“So (enter Palestinian name here), what do you think? Do we take the boat and the waverunners out to the lake on Saturday? Nah, I was thinking of taking the wife and the kids up to the Golan Heights to watch the aerial bombardment of southern Lebannon. It’s about time they took some of the heat for a while.”

I was just reporting what Ann “Adam’s apple on a stick” Coulter was saying to Noron on Hardball. As an example of her being delusional, as usual.
No chance I thought her spewage had any sense or meaning. In fact, I think it’s an example of desperation. Most people watching must have said “Huh?” to her statement.
Also — no chance Coulter will read the succinct facts you link to. She won’t let facts get in her way.

Great quote from Wes Clark on the Lieberman race, just remember back to ‘04 when Lieberman kept pushing the “Clark is a Republican meme”:
“I am a proud member of the Democratic Party, and I believe it is our party’s responsibility to support the will of the Democratic primary voters in Connecticut. I personally look forward to supporting the candidate CT voters elect as the Democratic nominee. Though, as an aside, I must say I find it ironic that Senator Lieberman is now planning a potential run as an independent after he continually questioned my loyalty to the Democratic Party during the 2004 presidential primary.”

I for one don’t hold out much hope for candidates addressing the question of how to solve the Middle East “problem”. They’re terrified of being labeled as anti-semitic for saying the obvious. That is to say: that the Palestinians have as much right to a homeland as do the Israelis. Until the Arab “street” sees an evenhanded approach to the conflict, there will be no peace in the mideast. Even some of the blogs I hold in such esteem are afraid to wade into the problem of U.S. bias in the Israeli-Palistinian debacle. And it is false to say the conflict between two semitic people, the Palestinians and Israelis is too complicated for simple solutions.
is it just me? or is it just MEN, MEN, MEN involved in all the ME problems? and discussing on the TV….? and blowing stuff up?
aren’t there any voices of reason from a woman now and then?
Here is today’s Lieberman info in my mailbox — I am getting 3 Lieberman for every Ned.
Is this why Joe wanted his tax returns?
“Lamont has invested heavily in the war he claims to oppose. Lamont says he’s against Joe Lieberman because of the War in Iraq. But recently it was revealed that Lamont actually has a large financial investment in Halliburton, a company known for making huge profits on the Iraq war. (Source: Secretary of the Senate, Personal Financial Disclosure Report).”
Fact checking, anyone?
OT For those who are interested these were the 4 amendments to the voting rights act from yesterday and why they were pernicious. If you are not interested, please jump over.
2. H.AMDT.1183 to H.R.9 An amendment numbered 1 printed in House Report 109-554 to update the formula in section 4 of the Voting Rights Act that determines which states and jurisdictions will be covered under Section 5 of the act. This updated formula would be a rolling test based off of the last three presidential elections. Any state would be subject to Section 5 if it currently has a discriminatory test in place or voter turnout of less than 50% in any of the three most recent presidential elections.
Sponsor: Rep Norwood, Charlie [GA-9] Status: Failed by recorded vote: 96 – 318 (Roll no. 370).
This amendment would effectively destroy the anti-discrimination purpose of the act by making participation the bar and that bar being set at 50% would be easily met in jurisdictions even where substantial discrimination occurred. The effect would be to remove most of the South from the act’s purview.
3. H.AMDT.1184 to H.R.9 An amendment numbered 2 printed in House Report 109-554 to make the reauthorization period 10 years, rather than the 25 years proposed in the act.
Sponsor: Rep Gohmert, Louie [TX-1] Status: Failed by recorded vote: 134 – 288 (Roll no. 371).
Reducing reauthorization to 10 years would allow opponents more chances to modify the act and limit its scope.
4. H.AMDT.1185 to H.R.9 An amendment numbered 3 printed in House Report 109-554 which seeks to strike sections 7 and 8 from the bill. Sections 7 and 8 relate to multilingual ballots and use of American Community Survey census data, and they would automatically expire in 2007.
Sponsor: Rep King, Steve [IA-5] Status: Failed by recorded vote: 185 – 238 (Roll no. 372).
This relates to the favorite Republican tactic of voter suppression by making voting an English only exercise. While this can be seen as part of the anti-immigration debate, it would, in fact, affect US citizens only.
5. H.AMDT.1186 to H.R.9 An amendment numbered 4 printed in House Report 109-554 which seeks to provide for an expedited, proactive procedure to bail out from coverage under the preclearance portions of the Voting Rights Act, by requiring the Department of Justice to assemble a list of all jurisdictions eligible for bailout and to notify the jurisdictions. The Department of Justice is then required to consent to the entry of a declaratory judgment allowing bailout if a jurisdiction appears on the list. Adds a three-year initial time period (and annually thereafter) for assembly of the bailout list by the Department of Justice.
Sponsor: Rep Westmoreland, Lynn A. [GA-8] Status: Failed by recorded vote: 118 – 302 (Roll no. 373).
This amendment would have placed the onus of establishing whether offending jurisdictions should continue to be subjected to preclearance of their voting procedures on the federal government as opposed to the offending jurisdictions. This would have redirected government efforts from investigating new cases of voter abuse to annually reverifying old ones.

OTOH — German and Austrian coffee is pretty good stuff. They have a maxim that “if you have a headache, drink a cup of coffee, it’ll clear it up right away.” What’s funny about that is that if the headache is caused by caffeine withdrawal, of COURSE a cup’ll clear it up right away. [Coffee — my kind of addiction!]
Oh, and Turkish coffee? Puts hair on your chest. And Turkish women I’ve known will sometimes flip the cup over and let the grains settle — then read your fortune in the pattern left in the cup.
no no no. you have it backwards. Lamont is the Rich Guy who Buys Votes. a national AP story says so, so it gotta be true.
Sorrily still OT – Leahy’s remarks on Haynes – what Truthy guy too.
http://judiciary.senate.gov/me…..it_id=2629
In his letter, Mr. Haynes wrote that, under Article 16 of the Convention Against Torture, “the United States also has an obligation to ‘undertake … to prevent other acts of cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment or punishment which do not amount to torture.’” He defined “cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment” as that treatment or punishment prohibited by the Fifth, Eighth or Fourteenth Amendments to our constitution and said, “United States policy is to treat all detainees and conduct all interrogations, wherever they may occur, in a manner consistent with this commitment.”
I found that letter reassuring, as did many others. Press reports suggest, though, that when Mr. Haynes sent that letter to me, the Department of Defense had recently approved many harsh interrogation techniques and had adopted a working group report presenting a flawed legal justification for cruel treatment of detainees
If we had to buy the “Liar Liar Pants On Fire” t-shirt for every member of this administration that gets promotions, even funds of the Gates/Buffet alliance would be challenged.

Shoot, if it’s good enough for Joe’s good buddy Cheney, why not for Ned?
At least in Ned’s case it would amount to a smart investment instead of a sinecure.
I wish somebody would discover that Ned went short on that stock.
Heh, heh.
I live in Connecticut. Here’s a letter I wrote the weekly paper in my town, a borderline Republican enclave (though the town govt is currently in the Dems’ hands). I encourage anyone in Connecticut to write a letter to their local paper. That’s where you catch the voters’ eyes. I tried to make more of a voting for Ned Lamont rather a voting against Joe Lieberman. As a wise man in my town is always reminding me when I go off on the Hummer driving GOPers in my town: “If you want to catch bees, you gotta use a little honey.”
Dear Herald editors,
Connecticut voters, and in particular registered Democrats, got a taste of the real Joe Lieberman during his recent (and only) debate with Ned Lamont in the Democratic Senatorial primary race. Throughout the debate, Joe was arrogant, angry and rude, offering the same old platitudes and attitudes that have made Washington D.C. a symbol of incompetent and corrupt political power. Meanwhile, Ned offered fresh ideas and calls for an end to this tragic mistake of a war of which Sen. Lieberman has been one of the biggest supporters. Lieberman has also, in recent weeks, taken to calling Democrats who support Ned Lamont, “hot heads” and “jihadists.” Perhaps worst of all, late last year on the floor of the Senate, he implied that not supporting George W. Bush was tantamount to treason. Don’t believe me? Here’s his exact quote: “It is time for Democrats who distrust President Bush to acknowledge that he will be Commander-in-Chief for three more critical years, and that in matters of war, we undermine Presidential credibility at our nation’s peril.” Given that Bush currently has a 35% approval rating among all Americans, Joe just called 65% of us traitors. Who is this Joe Lieberman? Was this the same man we’ve voted for in the past? No, he is not, and that is the reason I am not going to vote for him on Aug. 8. Instead, I will be voting for someone who makes me proud to be an American and a Democrat, Ned Lamont. I encourage all registered Democrats to do the same. It’s this simple: Joe Lieberman has abandoned his party. Now it’s time for his party to abandon him.
Sincerely,
It’s Arthur Laurents’ Birthday! and in his honor, Joe Lieberman’s going to do “Rose’s Turn” from Gypsy. (It’s practically his campaign song, folks.)

There was some discussion a few months back about Tucker Carlson and his father and some relation to the Plame case that he has not revealed, yet he, like Woodward, has been (disingenuously) poo-pooing the case on the air from the git while failing to disclose some conflict of interest.
Anybody remember the details of that?
everhopeful – yes, that rings a bell, but I sure don’t remember what…

Regarding Tucker Carlson and L’affaire Plame: Keep in mind that his Pa is on the steering committee for Scooter Libby’s legal defense fund.
I’m just shocked that he hasn’t mentioned that little conflict, aren’t you?
Tucker Carlson’s Dad, Richard, is on the Libby Defense Fund Committee.
FWIW, the family money comes from Mama Tucker — she’s the heiress of the Swanson Chicken fortune. I found it peculiar that Swanson was advertising so heavily on M$NBC — canned chicken broth seemed an odd product to be pushing on ‘news’ shows …

When a legal defense fund has a “steering committee” does the “steering” in question have to do with the ultimate testimony of the defendant? ;-)

now I am even coarser wrt to politics, much to my shame.
In addition to sitting on the board, Richard Carlson was also one of the early, celebrity contributors to Libby’s Legal Defense Fund apparently having the check hand delivered and helping to get the ball rolling in the fund raising.

forgot to post this silly article on money, how money drives everything in politics, and Lamont and Hillery have and their opponents don’t, and that expalains everything.
http://msnbc.msn.com/id/13841268/
… oops, forgot to add it explains everything except that the weirdo fringe “anti-war” crowd also drives everything also. I guess include the 50 to 80 percent of the population that is “anti-war.” What does that mean anyway, “ant-war”? Last I checked, the war was %$!#@@*(!@!! OVER three frigging years ago. It is a little late for that to be a debate over a current decision, is it not. Isn’t it the “pointless occupation to continue as we have in order to accomplish ????” versus the crowd who advocates killing and bankrupting whoever is handy in order to acoomplish ????. That sounds better. How dim do you have to be in order to be a national affairs or politics reporter these day?
And also, does anyone remember how the Iraq war was going to revolutionize the Israeli-Palestinian issue? Oh, who about Lebanon, the great new birth and the Ceder revolution or whatever it was called? Or, oh, how Iraq would ‘force” Syria to behave itself. Which it did by withdrawing its troops, except now Syria is still behind it all because it fits into the PR campaign of the day. Yep… everything is chaged because of Iraq. That prediction is working out just as well as all the others.

Here is the link to the Hartford Courant story about the R candidate. http://tinyurl.com/rrofs
Word I am hearing is that the state Rs are talking Shays into considering stepping in if it turns out to be a three-way race they think they can win. They could lose his seat in the house, anyway.
Also, know that there is also a primary for D candidate for governor on 8/8.
OT, but nonsense below is in Christian Science Monitor today. Will force myself to type slowly and not typo. I read the whole thing, and it is far worse than the excert. Basic message: environmentalism is a harmful psychological defense mechanism for people who cannot deal with the prime problem of all civilization forever more, terrorism. Yikes: Now I want to get back to work and forget that the world has gone mad. What tripe to put in a paper.
Christian Science Monitor Prints Attack On Global Warming Science Written by Stand-Up Comic
The Christian Science Monitor has printed an attack on Al Gore and others who take the threat of global warming seriously. The article is penned by stand-up comic Julia Gorin. An excerpt:
—————-
Scared and unsure how to fight terrorists, they confront “climate change,” which only requires spending trillions of other people’s dollars on something that may not need fixing or may not be fixable. No wonder some of these people chain themselves to trees – they think money grows on them.
—————-
She’s not joking.
These are the lengths that reputable publications like the Christian Science Monitor are going to provide “balanced coverage” of the global warming issue. There is no meaningful debate within the scientific community, so scientific research is balanced by “conservative comedians.”
http://thinkprogress.org/2006/…..ing-comic/
kirby 181 — hmm, Shays rather than whatever unnamed Gooper fatcat the state Rep chairman seemed to be floating yesterday?
So Joe’s to the right of ALL the CT GOP, not just Urban?
Things that make you go “hmmmmmm”
If this is true, then somebody knows some inside info, and you should get ready for $4 or $5 gas
PS: the economic argument Gorin refers to in #182 is crap. Link to the economist William Nordaus
http://www.econ.yale.edu/~nord…..mepage.htm
He has been right in past on environmental econ when others have been wrong. His reasearch finds that there is very strong econ argument for 10 to 50 dollar per ton carbon tax right now. Says between 10 and 20 bucks a ton is economic no brainer, passes every cost-benefit test he throws at it.
Congressional candidate Shays to switch to run for Senator? Cut’n Run Joe to run as an ‘independent’ ? Are Connecticut election practices written on Jello ?
john @ 184 – no kidding, HMMMMM!!! ever get the feeling everything is rigged?
lotus 183 — I’d say Nancy Johnson is to Lieberman’s right, and she is in just as deep with pharma money.
In 2000 Census, we lost a Congressional seat. She ran against another incumbent, Jim Maloney (D) and she just had more money. Jim was a phenomenal public servant. He “got it” when I was looking for funding to start a small clinic in my local homeless shelter. Nancy said, “THOSE PEOPLE just need to take responsibility for themselves.” Nuff said.
Coulter on now on MSNBC wrt Israel:
She supports Israel. She says “Punish your enemies.
WRT has Israel gone too far: It’s been festering long before Bush. They were not gentle little lambs before Bush got in.
WRT to coffins ad: Coulter says, it is not right to exploit death of soldiers.
WRT Bush coffin ad in 2004 Election: I haven’t seen it.
Me: She looks really really bad. If I had a dog who looked like her today I would walk it backwards.
138 – The reason that “so many people can be so hypocritical” has to do with cultural dynamics and how we reward ourselves with a shot of dopamine for rationalizing an obvious lie, especially if believing that lie can help make us acceptable to the group of people we want to be a part of. The end result is the tragic comedy of Joe’s statements while attacking Ned. He may actually believe his own bullshit and I say tragic because there is every indication that this jerk may eventually win. Even an obvious falsehood can be subverted by a good cup of Dopamine Joe.
Shit. I hope the price of gas doesn’t get much higher. I’ve already got entirely too much work to do.
John @ 184: That’s pretty scary, but not too surprising, I guess. I wonder at what point our economy is going to grind to a halt?
Really OT, but this is something that I am curious about. When I hit the Refresh Comments button down at the bottom of the Comments section, I see all comments that have been posted twice. Each version is identical and has the same number. But there are two of them. Now, if I hit the Refresh button on my browser, all those redundant copies of the comments go away. But then, after someone posts a new comment and I hit the Refresh Comments button again, it all starts over again at the point at which I last hit the browser Refresh button.
Does anyone else have that? It isn’t a problem, but it’s kind of strange.
If I had a dog who looked like her today I would walk it backwards.
Hee, cc! Btw, glad you bagged them earmuffs — not comfy in Florida mid-summer a-tall, nuh-uh.
Thanks everyone for the answers to Tucker’s Carlson’s real motivation for his constant ridicule of the Plame case and lawsuit.
Hmmmm . . . if the Swanson heiress is Tucker’s step-mother, how come his full name is Tucker Swanson McNear Carls?
Coincidence?
What will the Christian Science Monitor sponsor next, the Flat Earth Society, cold fusion, alchemy?
ccmask at 189 — you know, I was just flipping around the dial, biding time for Olberman, and caught a glimpse of Coulter…and was thinking she looked like she could use a nap or something.
Froomkin makes a sort of shocking statement today regarding the Plame suit:
“Yesterday’s filing of a civil lawsuit in the CIA leak case is quite possibly a legal dead-end, and arguably a thinly veiled attempt at political harassment.”
And regarding Bushs’ previous statement about looking into Putin’s soul he quotes:
“”But as Stephen Sestanovich, a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, put it, ‘It’s always a risky business to put yourself in the position of validating the soulful qualities of a former KGB agent.’”
I’m surprised to read Froomkin being so decidedly negative about the suit. I would have thought he would be more supportive, or at least open-minded.
who said the Swanson heiress was a step-mother?
Noron is actually putting Coulter to the test.
is coulter always so twitchy?
Latest e-mail pitch from Lieberman:
>>>>>>>>>>>>
You read it in the paper and you see it on the news: this race is real. With only 27 days left before August 8th, the fight for Connecticut’s future—our jobs, our healthcare, our environment—is heating up every day. We know what’s at stake. Will you stand with me and contribute to a bright future for our state?
Contribute to our fight!
You and I have experienced this race together. From coffee in a Stamford diner to SubFest at the Groton base, I’ve met with Connecticut citizens who, like you, have depended on me to work for them for over thirty years.
But, as the news tells us every night, this race has become a national experience. The eyes of America have turned to us, watching our fight for the future of Connecticut—and for the future of our country. Stand by me as I’ve stood by you, and we’ll show them how we’ll win this together:
Contribute to our fight!
By putting signs in your lawn, volunteering your free time, and giving what financial support you can, friends like you have shown the strength of our campaign. These 27 demanding days ahead will test that strength. But we have that secret weapon of politics the skeptics always dismiss: the courage of our convictions. I’m up for a fight because I know what’s at stake—and so do you.
I’ve stood up for Connecticut my entire life. If you stand with me, nothing can stop these 27 days from ending in victory.
Yours,
Joe Lieberman

Norah O’Donnell interviewing Coulter, again:
She thought the wilson section of her book would get more play than her Jersey girl chapter.
Norah is challenging Ann to this question: Was Valerie covert? She says it is classified and not covert.
Anne says it is not as bad as molesting someone in the oval office. She also does not regret dumping on the Jersey girls.
lotus: It sure is hot out right now isn’t it? damn.

The Wikipedia link some kind soult put in his post.
And this, in e-mail from Shays challenger Diane Farrell. She came closer than anyone thought she could 2 years ago
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
We’ve just finished counting contributions for the quarter, and we’re blown away by your support. We are very pleased to announce that we raised $787,736.90 in the second quarter of 2006, more than anyone has ever raised in one quarter in the fourth district.
Diane and I want to thank the hundreds of you who are supporting her campaign through your contributions. Diane wants you to know, in her words: “Your donations are a clear and potent indication of how much the people of the 4th District truly want change. You want a change in their representation, which in turn will mean a change in leadership in the House of Representatives and a change in the dynamic in Washington. Your contributions speak loudly about how the people of this district view the policies of the Bush administration – especially the Bush policies in Iraq – and my opponent’s support for them. I hear you, and in November I expect everyone else will hear you too.”
Amazingly, 4,312 individuals contributed $100 or less. We think that number speaks volumes about the grassroots nature of this campaign.
The week did not pass without another stunning admission by Congressman Shays. During subcommittee hearings, Shays said that “Iraqi security forces are taking the lead in controlling almost 30 percent of the country.” (Visit our website for quotes.) However, a month ago in the Connecticut Post, he asserted that Iraqi troops controlled “42 percent of their country.” Whether Chris was aware of his contradiction or not, it is obvious that the Congressman is in the dark when it come to the war in Iraq. For the sake of our troops and for the good of the country, we cannot have officials who have such a haphazard relationship with the facts in a position where being right or wrong can mean the difference between life and death.
And rest assured, Diane continued to get her message out to voters this week. On WNPR’s Where We Live she said, “What I hear most frequently from people when I’m in the district talking to voters is that they’ve had enough of this agenda. They’re frustrated with the President. They’re frustrated with the Republican leadership in the House and the Senate and they’re ready for change.” Also, see the transcript from CNN’s The Situation Room.
If your contributions are any indication, we know you feel the same way. Keep us in mind as we head into the final quarter of the election cycle. And we’ll keep you posted on events.

Ann:
“I think it’s cruel to be endorsing John Kerry for president.”
Murderous hot, cc. Slaving over that ice-cold putter this afternoon didn’t help.
Man, she takes the cake.
Doesn’t seem to eat much of it, though.
I dont want to upset anybodies religious sensibilities but why the surprise at the Christian Science Monitor (usually a stable Establishment Medium) publishing something so whacky? The very premise of the Mother Ship is kind of peculiar: all illnesses can be cured by faith without the help of medicines… good health comes from right faith
Parenthetically, do you notice how little coverage there is of the G-8 summit? Could this be because they are such expensive non events? A chance for world leaders to get together and do nothing in rich and exotic locations?
lotus and cc – you in So Cal or is it just murderous hot everywhere?
I guess Norah forgot to ask her why she didn’t raise any money at her gig……What ever happened to good old fashioned news?
We be in Florida, OldCoastie.
#210
How can you upset our religious sensibilities? In America right now no one has any.

I know I’m biased in this race, but I swear that “We’ve been through so much together” mailing from Lieberman hit me like a letter from your recently-dumped boyfriend entreating you to give it another try.
The feeling inside me while reading? I’m so over you, hon. I’d like to end it with some dignity, OK?
The reason there has been limited coverage of G-8 is due to the presence of the media. W doesn’t want to say a word about Lebanon (see yesterday’s “pig” news conference).
yup – I’ve been in FL when it was hot… we’ve started “fire season” 2 months early – haven’t had more than one day less than 90 degrees in the last month… usually it’s hot here, just not that hot.
kirby
Lieberman’s letter uses the word “fight” 5 times and ends with the word victory. I think he can’t conceive of anything anymore than in neocon terms.
taking out Saddam sure did stabilize the Middle East, didn’t it?
OldCoastie @ 187
The answer is yes. But what do I know, I’m just a monkey in front of a keyboard – like that old saying – 100 monkeys, 1,000 monkeys whatever it is.
And
Related???
Now, if we had any intrepid corporate media reporters out there (instead of the “celebujournalists”) they might ask if this was a normal annual contract or if it was just a “coincidence” that this contract was awarded now.
Gotta run along now …
zennurse @ 198:
Note the closing piece to your Froomkin pullquote, however:
Froomkin sounds more disenchanted with the possible Fitzgerald denouement of only tagging Libby for obstruction of justice, and the rather obvious Senate Intelligence Committee stall under Roberts.
new thread — good ol’ Wes !
Hugh @ 4:25 pm (#196) – What will the Christian Science Monitor sponsor next, the Flat Earth Society, cold fusion, alchemy?
Creationism? 9/11 conspiracy theories (every time someone mentions how those Saudi Arabians hijacked those planes, there’d better be a “Loose Change” perspective to provide balance by saying it was the Gumnent or Martians)?
Yes, I’d really rather focus on a problem that could put half the world’s population under water because I’m afraid to face a problem that’s killed a few hundred people a year outside the Middle East. That’s it.
You’re right, the world is going insane.
john in sacramento @ 4:38 pm (#221) – Based on experience, not checking into this particular deal, I’d say it’s just coincidence. It takes months to solicit proposals, wait for those proposals to pour in, and then evaluate them before awarding a contract of this size.
Of course, we’ve seen exceptions in the last few years, but that’s how it usually goes.

Well, we got a lot of advice from the Israelis through the neocons before going into Iraq and they are the experts as their winning hearts and minds campaign in Lebanon is showing.
Lotus: Do you golf?
lil dog 215
That was the gist of his first ad to air. Like a re-introduction. With the obligatory, “Remember how I keep saving the jobs at Groton Sub base.” line near the end.
In fairness, it was kinda like a ‘reminder’ of what a good ol’ Sen. he’s been.
But, viewing it with these somewhat biased, but clear, eyes, it was kinda like begging to keep/reestablish the good old days.
jmho.
I thought Noron’s interview with Coulter was interesting in the sense that Noron seemed to look down on Coulter (as though she – Noron – were somehow morally superior – what a crock!) yet she (Noron) was not at all sneering and combative the way she is with democrats.
Maybe it’s because they’re wingnut “sisters” on the inside and Noron objects only to Coulter’s outer obtuseness?
everhopeful: you can just feel all the love slipping away for Coulter. Of course, Norah still has to be nice because you never know what Anne the Man is going to come out with.
and your little dog @#216…maybe somebody needs to send Joe a copy of that book “He’s Just Not That Into You: The No-Excuses Truth to Understanding”… Voters?
Angie- I always liked meanie bellini but “hearing” skag again cracked me up!
Cujo @ 225
Good point, makes a lot of sense … but it’s awful ironic to be coming out now
Really gotta go
cc 227: allegedly . . .
me too, Dru– I had missed GSD’s most excellent post including skag and thank you for bringing it to light for me– made me laugh, as did your post.
Hey anyone remember ‘yoder’ and ‘white socks’ as terrible slurs in school?
It’s Friday. David Brooks is on the NewsHour. He’s still an idiot. Tonight he’s taking the long view of the Middle East because everything currently sucks and in the long term everything is possible. Now they are talking about Specter, FISA, and NSA and they all need to go read Glenn Greenwald because they obviously know squat about any of it.
On Plame, it’s not important and he throws out the old canard “that there was no underlying crime” which no one else bothers to challenge.
There are amoeba out there with more smarts than Brooks as Brooks proves once again tonight.
Yeah, mke too allegedly. I always have a lot of trouble at the hole with the windmill.
They do much of this “GreaseBullet” shilling on MSNBC? Hmm — my impression has been that they’re heavily into grease.
Noron regards Coulter the way Eve regards Phoebe (”I call myself Phoebe”) in the last reel of All About Eve. They’re (weird) sisters under the skin.
(In answer to an earlier question) I bold song lyrics to make it easier for everyone to sing along at their computers.
And now I’m off to the French Consulate to celebrate Bastille Day!
cc, they’re in the middle of a big restoration project at the muni where I play — gonna take it back to its “original” design. All I know is that I grabbed a cart and toured the project a couple of weeks ago, spying a whole buncha new coquina boulders and water. Think I may have better luck with windmills . . .
punaise 177, there may be an FDLanon group opening up in your area soon.
Watch this site for times, dates, etc. ;-)
I’ve been using my golf cart to go food shopping and just driving through the neighborhood visiting friends. It hasn’t seen the course in about a year.
Is your cart gas or electric, cc?
Here comes Chemerinsky.
Dang — what a time for a phone call I had to answer. Whaddy say?
Lotus @242: Electric. Sorry it took so long I was cooking my Broccoli & Pasta.
Wow, just watched the video. Pat Robertson’s lamentation of the polarization of the Democratic party was priceless.
Oh man… that is golden! I like the way the reporter enunciates “…EVEN as Bush’s LAPDOG??”
lol!
Fantastic.
I’ve got to get back into this game.
Oh, and once again… my NEW blog address is:
http://darted.wordpress.com
I’ve made the wordpress switch.
Best to everyone. Thanks for the heads up Jane.
Now I KNOW Lieberman has seen that image I made. Eat it Joe!

lotus – your “allegedly” fractured me – the boys who let me play thru will love this too. Bless em’ – shattered old straight-shootin’-Eisenhower Republicans.
Not really all that surprising if you think about it – who do you think they’d rather see as an opponent -Lieberman who would likely draw Republican votes or Ned? Not even close.
