I am a proud member of the Democratic Party, and I believe it is our party’s responsibility to support the will of the Democratic primary voters in Connecticut. I personally look forward to supporting the candidate CT voters elect as the Democratic nominee. Though, as an aside, I must say I find it ironic that Senator Lieberman is now planning a potential run as an independent after he continually questioned my loyalty to the Democratic Party during the 2004 presidential primary.
Feel the love.
(thanks to everhopeful)

Wes!!!
Hey Jane!!
Having hung out with Wes twice now, I think I can state firmly that the guy is real, no bullshit. He’s a solid Democrat, and truly ‘gets it.’
Speaking of thank you notes, I got a lovely note delivered by snail mail today from Florida Rick Penberthy, thanking me for my donation. I thought that was really nice of him.
kobe !
Thanks to Wes. Maybe in 2 years the electorate will see that war is also too important to be left to draft-dodging chickenhawks (& slimy senators).
Valerie and the twins, Doe1 & Doe2 !
http://www.ThankYouValerie.com
Ouchie. Nice one, Wes. Even without the Independent/CT For Lieberman *eyeroll* bullshit, Joe Lieberman has no standing to question anybody’s Democratic credentials.
Jane, are you going to stay in CT if Ned wins and Joe carries through with his cunning plan?
all the people that Leaverman has kicked around are gonna come back to haunt him…
Hey, Chuck!
Hey, Harry!
Hey, Barbara!
THIS is how it’s done.
Yay Wes.

Mwahahahahahaha.
I’m starting to have a good feeling about this.
What did the five fingers say to the face, Joe?
;>)
hee-hee, *ilson!
Stick a fork in that Lieberman.
appropriate for a lieberweenie, Roxanne.
ROFLMAO Jane. That is freaking hilarious. “Hello, Joe, your past deeds would like a few words with you…”
I hate working the hours I do. Gen Clarke is going to be in Colorado Springs…and I’m not! Damnit.
But, rumor has it that the Dem. national convention may be in Denver in 08…there goes my vacation time!
oh, lest I forget, fuckbush
ROFLMAO Jane. That is freaking hilarious. “Hello, Joe, your past deeds would like a few words with you…”
Welcome to Karmannecticut.
1,206 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOES ON AND ON AND…
Citizen Hamsher:
Thanx for the Wes Clark message…there’s an old sayin’ about chickens and roostin’ and I’m wonderin’ how ol’ Joe likes his goose cooked.
KEEP THE FAITH ALL THEY GOT IS THE MONEY!!
Norske- Don’t forget wounded soldiers who died enroute to Germany hospitals. I don’t think they count those in the official tallies.
how the heck are they planning on getting 25 thousand Americans out of Lebanon?
the logistics of that seem a bit complicated…
OT, but…Larry says: July 14th, 2006 at 10:10 am
OT …egegious your 15 @9:42
Just curious….I looked @ that comment
WT? Larry
Wasn’t sure you got the message yet, ‘cuz it was posted at the bottom of the post at like 167 or so, but here it is: Today is Bastille Day in France, kinda like our 4th of July, hence the reference to decapitating French royals today. In that context, the comment made sense to me.
Is that what they mean when they say:
BOOYAH!!
Liebermans for Karmannecticut
Hey, if anyone comes in contact with the good General, please buy him a milkshake. He wanted one while campaigning in Las Vegas, NM, but the DQ across the street had already closed.
General Clark certainly earned a milkshake with that brilliant “aside” about Lieberman!
“Keep my words soft and sweet,
I never know from day to day
which ones I’ll have to eat.”
General Clark certainly earned a milkshake with that brilliant “aside” about Lieberman!
General Clark’s milkshake is better than Joe’s.
Damn right, it’s better than Joe’s.
the 25,000 Americans are just one problem in evacuating foreigners from Lebanon. Allegedly there are 25,000 Australians as well plus many, many more tourists and workers from other countries. The Israelis fucked up the airports and exit highways. Them Aussie and American Hezbollah members sure will be sorry for capturing 2 Israeli soldiers !!!
No wonder why Halliburton said stick a fork in us we’re done.
IT’S OLBERMAN TIME!
Is Joe melting into a whole pile of nothing or a small mess of crazy?
I WANT A POLL!
NOW!
The way this is being ‘not-polled’ I figure there will be just one released, about Aug. 1, which will have the race at 48/48/4.
…. small mess of crazy, I think…
Senator Lieberman has been a very vocal supporter the Bush-Cheney Iraq attack. Did Lieberman, or any of his children ever fight it any wars?
Ollie 27
Heard he likes Cheetos, too. :)
You can take the boy outta the South, but . . . .
Somebody posted a direct mail piece from Lieberman on the last thread refering to the next 27 days. The underlying tone was “help me”. It just seemed so pathetic, with attempts at bravado with words like fight and victory sprinkled around. To borrow a phrase frome Digby, the “metrics” are off. Any recent polls on this race?
OK EPU’ed and unafraid to be repetitive:
It’s Friday. David Brooks is on the NewsHour. He’s still an idiot. Tonight he’s taking the long view of the Middle East because everything currently sucks and in the long term everything is possible. Now they are talking about Specter, FISA, and NSA and they all need to go read Glenn Greenwald because they obviously know squat about any of it.
On Plame, it’s not important and he throws out the old canard “that there was no underlying crime” which no one else bothers to challenge.
There are amoeba out there with more smarts than Brooks as Brooks proves once again tonight.
Joe Lieberman fiercely opposed the VietNam War and did not participate in that carnage. He has 4 children but their military service is nowhere touted. I suspect they have more important things to do than fight in Daddy’s beloved folly.
Eli -
General Clark’s milkshake is better than Joe’s.
Damn right, it’s better than Joe’s.
I can teach you,
But I have to charge
OK Kiddo @ 36 – wikipedia makes no mention of military service for Joe… looks like just another chicken hawk to me.
Isn’t sending the troops to fight come under miliary service for Joe?
properly speaking: a chickenhawk is one who supported a war but wouldn’t actually risk his ass in it, like Cheney and Bush. Lieberman, to his credit, (like Bill Clinton) opposed the VietNam War and fought against it.
Keith O. is talking about the Valerie Plame lawsuit now with Edwin Chemerinski (sp?)
Ouch! Clark has a way of being polite as he gets RIGHT TO THE POINT.
Keith O. is talking about the Valerie Plame lawsuit now with Edwin Chemerinski (sp?)
Wasn’t someone saying the guy is a total legal god last night?
Oh Hugh, you are a saint. Thanks for the warning. BoBo’s pearl clutching is getting to me.
seems to me if HoJo is supporting THIS war and doesn’t send his children to fight it, he now qualifies as a chickenhawk…. but that’s just my interpretation…
Hi Eli,
Why is my name highlighted in pink? That hasn’t happened before.
…more important things to do than fight in Daddy’s beloved folly.” Would that be the same thing as Cheney’s “other priorities”?
“It’s a rich man’s war but a poor man’s fight…”
Please, please, please, people – give your impressions of Chemerinski.
I thought that was the most articulate and classy presser Team Valerie gave. These people really have the right stuff. Wouldn’t you hypothetically love to see her and Joe on the stand?
The Lieber-Kids probably have more sense than their Daddy…
Why is my name highlighted in pink? That hasn’t happened before.
Hi maggie. If you use the Refresh Comments button, all your comments are highlighted, unless/until you refresh the whole page in your browser.

Cherminsky has been a fixture in the L.A. area for a very long time – EXCEEDINGLY bright… always well-spoken, never an ass…
General Clark’s comments, including the “aside”, are here on Kos:

It figures… thanks.
It was a quick interview with Chemerinsky. He is a huge legal brain — his constitutional scholarship is quite good, and he’s incredibly bright. He’s also the quintessential nerd, which I find both comforting and endearing in a lawyer. *g* It was mainly a lot of procedural questions on where things go from here and whether Cheney has immunity (he argued that Cheney does not).
Hezbollah drone batters Israeli warship
Christy, LOVE that feature, by the way.
I watched the streaming presser and the attorney wasn’t identified by name. Was that Chemerinski?
Chemerinski is great — he is wicked smart, a bit of a nerd, but very kind and generous. He often teaches with one of my colleagues and is very generous with his time. He is involved in some of the Guantanemo litigation, is an expert in federal habeas corpus (my area) and has a deep understanding of the personalities as well as the positions of Supreme Court Justices. He is not a publicity hound. Is very progressive but has never been a self-promoter. He’s fun to have dinner with, as well.
When he speaks, you should listen.
Thats actually a good one.
“Why is my name highlighted in pink?” Damn it. I thought that meant we were progressive Democrats or watered down communists or socialists. Or something.
Washington Week on.
Someone on talking how Lebanon “really dropped the ball” by not disarming Hezbollah conveniently forgetting that the central government was too weak to do so. Gwen Ifil jumps in saying Olmert is doing this to establish his defense cred. Haaretz says it’s because he got bulldozed by his generals.
Now there is another tool (forgive the language) who is describing the Specter cave in as exercising oversight. Not to harp but these guys so need to read Glenn Greenwald or some of the other analysis on this because they are clueless.
Yet another tool talking about the Voting Rights Act. It’s not about racism. It’s about states’ rights. And darn, some of those votes on the amendments were close. The closest was the King Amendment on eliminating multilingual balloting (think voter suppression) which lost 185 – 238. Yep, by a whisker. After more blather she finally subsides predicting that the Voting Rights Act will pass the Senate and there are people out there who think that reporters aren’t savvy.
Lieberman coverage not too bad. Well that’s a surprise.
Maggie s at 50 — the highlight shows you where you last posted.
Christy,
Ah – that’s a nice feature. Thanks!
I remember it so well – during the 2004 campaign – HolyJoe’s constant whining about Wes’ status as a democrat and his smarmy insinuations about his “loyalty to the party,” blah blah blah. That’s when my dislike of Lieberman first took hold.
Wes is a democrat to the bone – by nature. He lives democratic values because they are his own. Lieberman couldn’t have cared less what the truth was back then or now…
Wes is so rarely snarky – but when he is, it’s a dooz! Yay, Wes!
OT — Heads up for lovers of anti-fascist cinema:
Tonight at 2 am EDT and 11 pm PDT Turner Classic Movies (in their TCM Imports series) will be showing:
MEPHISTO
starring Klaus Maria Brandauer, directed by Istvan Szabo in 1981.
The film is based on the 1936 novel of the same name by Klaus Mann (son of Thomas Mann) and is concerned with an actor who first tastes success on the stage working with politically leftist theater groups in Weimar Germany. This actor is so narcissistic and devoid of any real sense of morality in the political sphere, that when Hitler comes to power he saves his own theatrical career by sucking up to the Nazis, and soon discovers it’s a bargain with the devil.
The character played by Brandauer is named “Hendrik Hoefgen” — an obvious play on the name of the REAL actor Gustav Gruendgens. The historical Gruendgens sold out in a similar manner — something Klaus Mann knew about, since Gruendgens was his brother-in-law.
The Gruendgens family fought a 7 year battle in court to have the novel banned in Germany in the early sixties, and then sought to have the film stopped by court order as well.
Luckily, the family didn’t succeed in halting the film’s production or release. This movie is incredibly well-written and well-acted. Brandauer is a revelation in the part of the weaselly Hoefgen. The film won 2 Academy Awards (best foreign pic, best screenplay) and the top prize at Cannes as well.
This is a movie well worth recording if you can’t stay up to watch.
[Can you tell I love this movie? LOL!!! I’m thrilled it’s on.]
everhopeful it is a great catch/insight –is there any way to dig up some of Lieberman’s old chin music about party loyalty?
Ahem.
Allow me to share one of my favorite Wes pix.

A him it is, li’l dog.
ahem, indeed ;)
It was never about slavery — just states rights.
it was never about lynching — just states rights
it was never about segregated schools — just states rights
Wes Clark is my choice for prez in ‘08 if Gore doesn’t run.
My brother worked for NATO when Clark was Commander of NATO during the war in Kosovo. He thinks the world of the guy. I do, too! He wrote that great op ed for the NYT about the war in Iraq – and he hammered Bushco in every paragraph. It was wonderful!!
I hope he decides to run – we need his expertise to clean up the mess left by this maladministration!!
Um, little dog. Is there a story that goes with that “one of your favorite Wes pix?”
*crickets* from all the guys re 72…
meta 63 — (sorry, got distracted there) no, the streaming-presser atty was Wolf, and C’sky is his co-counsel (”Of Counsel,” officially).
is there any way to dig up some of Lieberman’s old chin music about party loyalty?
I’m trying. I found a blog reference to it, but no quote or link, so big whoop.
I did find *this* from June ‘04…
That sounds… oddly familiar.
Meta 76
Well, it’s “my” favorite pic only in the sense that I like it a lot.
I’m afraid I’m not the photog.
*crickets* from all the guys re 72…
I was researching.
punaise: I’ve seen beefcake — I’ve met beefcake — my boyfriend is beefcake — but you, General Clark, are no beefcake !
Re: 78
I want to look like that at Wes’ age. Heck, I want to look like that now :)
*ilson 82
Au contraire!!
OLLIE 83
I think you have to swim laps every day to look like that. :)
Oh God, I hope Lara Logan takes good care. She just goes from one hot spot to another.
Thank you kindly, lotus!
Be still my heart. He’s so handsome.
Wesley Clark has a brilliant mind, foreign policy credentials, red state appeal, and a commitment to progressive values.
There’s no one on the horizon for ‘08 with a better shot at ending the nightmare of the Bush-Cheney reign of terror.
I love Feingold, but I don’t want another Senator at the top of the ticket getting bogged down in why he voted for the 1997 highway bill.
Wes is the man.
playing the French card, mon petite chien ?
You’re welcome, meta — and I share your concern about Lara Logan. “Reckless abandon” on the hoof, with cam.
Imm, I think I’ve got it.
*ilson 88
Woof!
Gore-Clark in ‘08 surely does work for this Democrat! Also Murtha at Defense and Clinton at State. And there are other combinations too.
I’m looking at older and newer pics of Coulter…. she is not aging well
Eli was researching weenies, not beefcake
Money quotes:
Yes. Joe Lieberman actually accused someone else of “working to forward the Republican agenda.”
et ton petit chien aussi
Sorry, I couldn’t help it. It’s a reflex.
Well shoot, comment just went bye-bye. I was trying to say:
You’re welcome, meta. And I share your concern about Lara Logan. “Reckless abandon” on the hoof, with cam.
time for Coulter the Molter to shed again?
and if you want to hear a great speech, go here and click on Clark’s speech to the Texas Dem. Convention last month:

time for Coulter the Molter to shed again?
Oh yes. She’s full of shed, actually.
meta, I’ve tried twice to respond to your 87, but both disappeared. Wondering whether this will get through . . .
meta at 63 — if you are talking about the atty at the Wilson presser earlier today, no — that was Christopher Wolf, not Chemerinsky.
Okay, third time may be the charm.
You’re welcome, meta. I share your concern about Lara Logan. “Reckless abandon” on the hoof, with cam.
On Coulter looking bad…I think the operation to remove her soul took a big toll on her.
lotus: for some odd reason, both of your comments got automagically thrown into moderation but you should have seen your notification of such status. I have sprung both of your comments and they are now flying freely on the thread …
So. I’m at work on a Friday night, anybody doing anything fun tonight? (Besides commenting)
Okay, just happened again. Something about “thank you”? Or “Lara Logan”? Or “‘Reckless abandon’ on the hoof, with cam”?
lotus: for some odd reason, both of your comments got automagically thrown into moderation but you should have seen your notification of such status.
I think that notification only shows up when you refresh the entire page from the browser, rather than the “Refresh Comments” button. I now refresh the page to check every time my comments disappear.
Eli, Excellent:
Joe Lieberman on Friday accused new presidential rival Wesley Clark of joining the Democratic Party for “political convenience, not conviction” as the retired general came under increased scrutiny.
Hmmm, projecting much? I would love a sound bite of that one for a commercial.
ELi @ 96 -
That’s a brilliant snippet. We gotta save that one – and use it – on behalf of Wes AND Ned.
*ilson at 12, Lieberman’s people weren’t even smart enough to snag the domain name of his brand spanking new party before they announced it? That’s so pathetic.
Noper, *ilson, nothing showed at all. Only now there are up to four attempts. Sorry to bore y’all, wuz just trying to make my manners to meta.
Eli, reading that Left Coast piece puts it in even greater perspective – Lieberman is just so left in the dust in every situation he encounters.
shooogarp –
anybody doing anything fun tonight? (Besides commenting)
For what we’ll be eagerly watching later tonight (with popcorn no doubt) see my comment at #69. Will you be home in time to tape or watch it?
So sorry to hear you’re working on a Friday night…or is this a regular thing for you, every Friday night?
Is Blank Kludge still around? I heard he was trying to perform a sex change operation on me around 4 AM Thursday. Oh well, these things happen…
Hugh 95
I’m impressed!
Excellent journalistic credentails, ability, talent, bravery aside…Lara Logan IS a travelling HOT spot.

Lotus – they’re both there. Try refreshing your browser, not just comments. Also, if you got the “error” message, with the big red “X,” just hang in for a minute and it will eventually “take.”
The site’s been mighty busy these days, so a hiccup now and then is bound to happen.
shooogarp@105: on the other hand, the surgery to pin back her ears appears to have worked!

Wonder how lhp and pup are doing. Whaddya bet she kicked righteous bootie today in court.

Gee lotus, thanks for all that attention! Hahahahaa.
Wonder how lhp and pup are doing.
Can we call it “looseheadpup”?

These bespectacled eyes missed the fact that your dial is cleverly disguised in a high heel.
Don’t know how I coulda missed it. Musta been “The ol’ early morning fog trick”, I guess.
Will you ever forgive me? Or send me a secret message?
Met Clark. He’s the real deal. (And very handsome too. Swoon.)
Speaking of disappearing comments, on several occasions I’ve had posts seem to go *poof* into cyberspace — only to find later that they magically appeared at a later time.
Once I was stunned to hear someone respond to a remark I’d made in an invisible post — that was my first clue.
Backing out and refreshing the page and then opening comments finally did the trick. With a cache cleaning for good measure. One time I had to do go through those steps twice, first time was NOT the charm.
Weirdnesses. Can’t figure out how that works, since it’s not a question of something being held in moderation or anything. [At least as far as I can tell — no messages to that effect. And people were responding to the “ghost post” long before I could see it on my monitor.]
And, if you want to knock your socks off, see what Clark said at the YearlyKos Science Panel:
http://www.securingamerica.com/node/1101
yeah, i snagged the whoisjoelieberman addy
and also http://www.ConnecticutForLamont.com (heh, heh, heh)
And, back to reality . . . .

OK, Blank Kludge. I think you just confirmed it’s Frisky Friday.
immanentize #70 – I googled around and found a few – there are lots more, though:
from dailykos, September 2003:
Lieberman takes on Clark
Can you smell the desperation at Lieberman HQ?
Igniting a spate of post-debate recrimination, Joe Lieberman accused new presidential rival Wesley Clark on Friday of taking “a journey of political convenience, not conviction” from the Republican ranks to the Democratic Party. Clark’s camp called Lieberman desperate.
Hmmm, smells like Garry South’s work. Though the more Lieberman goes on the attack (first against Dean), the bigger hits he takes in the polls.
Still, it heralds the biggest line of attack against Clark.
On the day after a 10-way Democratic presidential debate, Lieberman took issue with Clark expressing support for the Bush administration’s policies in a May 2001 address to the Arkansas GOP. Bush was pushing his tax-cut package at the time.
“I was fighting that reckless economic strategy while Wes Clark was working to forward the Republican agenda by raising money for the Republican Party,” the Connecticut senator said.

********************
Here’s one from O’Reilly’s show – (not exactly about party loyalty, but I’m posting it because it not only sounds suspiciously like his attacks on Ned Lamont, it’s also a COMPLETE LIE by the way):
Lieberman on Clark (From The O’Reilly Factor on Fox News Channel 10/23/03)
I know Wes. I like him. But out of the box, he’s been amazingly vague and indecisive. I mean, he’s taken about six different positions on whether he would have voted for the resolution to authorize the war against Saddam Hussein; ended up saying he would not have. I think that was the wrong decision. Last week, when we had to decide are you going to vote for the other $87 billion to keep the troops supported and begin to finish the job that we started in Iraq, he said first that he was undecided and then that he didn’t have to decide.

Yes, thanks Anne & *ilson, the weird thing was, even with browser-refresh, all trace of them and any reference to them disappeared. I know the server’s had the heecups this week, so no sweat. I’m not fussin’, just a bit surprised.

OT but related — I got a response to my email to the “supportwilson” folks about my two failed attempts to donate. I got an email response from “Joe and Valerie” — nice touch, that — saying “Sorry for the inconvenience. The donation section on the Wilson site is functioning now. Thank you for your support.” And sure enough, it went through just fine this time.
Back OnT — I lo-o-o-ve Wes Clark, and did even before I saw littledog’s photo. I thought his handlers in ‘04 did him a serious disservice by trying to soften his image (those fugly sweaters.) I’m glad to see him back in fighting trim, and his aim is quietly but beautifully deadly. Now about that photo, littledog — any way to use it as a screensaver?
Meta 134 –
Well, I’m leaving the ogling of Gen. Clark to others…

Our man *ilson is quite active in acquisitons lately, eh? “It’s all about the Toobz”.
Scholar, and a gentleman.

Mrs. K8 -
Unfortunately most of my days, with the exception of Sundays, I work from 8am to 9pm. The curse of the self-employed.
There was a great quote by Bush to a single mother who said she had two jobs to make ends meet. His response (typical for him) was: “You got two jobs! That’s great! What an economy! There are so many jobs out there, this woman has TWO! WHippeeee!
BarbaraB 143
Screensaver? You mean everybody doesn’t have puppies for their screensavers?
Lessee. Where have I heard that before . . . .?
…and your little dog, too,
Good catch!! lol – Lamont has taken six different positions on Iraq….
Thanks fro the news of wilsonsupport.org, BarbaraB. Time to head back over there.
Does anyone know if there is a cooking thread tomorrow morning? I know what the second post will be…….
it could not happen to a better self serving fence sitter
Met Clark and Gert and Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen and Charlie Rangel (woohoo, a wonderful congressman) at a speech here in NH in 2004… Wes has a great handshake and looks thru yer eyes to yer brain when he talks to you.
My favorite moment was running around in subzero weather campaigning for him in Nashua and following him around with signs in both my freezing hands and then getting a hug and a smile and thank you for fighting for our country.
Now if they could only get the sock operation on Ann right! You know, the one where she has a sock permanently stuffed into her mouth.
Yes, cc, CHS says she’s planning another Pull Up a Chair. Think they’ve bonded to Sat mornings now.
thank you Kludge for the kind words
I had to use Google the first few times I used that Manchurian Candidate quote. Interestingly enough, each word in the sequence has a particular irony if you knew the plot. A great script, for sure!
I absolutely loved donating to the Wilson fund. I was giggling and rubbing my hands together when I hit the donate button. I had a feelingvlike they could not succeed without me…I guess that is what real patriotism feels like.
just found you, very nice site. will be back
Does Joe think that no one remembers the things he’s said? Or that no one knows how to do research? Really, the playing field is just littered with unexploded mines, in the form of what people have said or done in the past – on the one hand, it’s great, and on the other, it really sucks – just depends on whether it’s your words coming back to bite you, or you’re sic’ing the other guy’s words on him.
On Washington Week tonight, Dan Balz said that in many ways, this CT race is like a microcosm of what we might be seeing in the ‘08 Democratic primary. Gwen Ifill said that even though others have said this is not a one-issue race, that in her time in CT, it seems to be all people want to talk about – that they’re very angry about the war. Several agreed that Lieberman seems resentful at even being challenged for his the seat.
Aside from wanting Ned to win because I think he’s the better person for the job, I think the party needs to win this, and the netroots need to win this, or both the party and the netroots are going to get the loser treatment for the next two years – the corporate media will make sure of it. Don’t think I could stand that – the media is already about as bad at covering these races as it is, and I am really, really tired of the way they insert themselves into these races, telling people what to think and how to feel. What happened to just telling people what happened? You know – just the facts? Who are these people that they think they are qualified to tell the public what events mean or that 2 + 2 equals something other than 4?
Sorry – /rant.
we’ll be here, jr– welcome.
Any word of how much they have collected? Is there a running tab anywhere? I am really curious about what the support looks like. The minimum donation is $50 and there is no limit.
on the one hand, it’s great, and on the other, it really sucks – just depends on whether it’s your words coming back to bite you, or you’re sic’ing the other guy’s words on him.
It helps to not be a complete ass, or to be running against someone who is.
MsK8 from upthread.
I’m doing well thanks to FDL, work, and a huge capacity for denial, which is coming in handy in trying to think about Lebanon, Iraq and Barbaro. :(

Blank Kludge – no worries. I’m very forgiving. After all, I have cross-dressed on many a Halloween – most memorably as Harpo Marx, Popeye (best guy friend was Olive Oil) and Peter Tosh. And that last one was a bit controversial at the time.

from seeing the error message about earlier failed attempts to donate to http://www.WilsonSupport.org , it looked to me like the ‘merchant account’ set up to accept credit cards was set at too low a daily limit — it looks like the bucks were rolling in and overwhelming the expected small account. Great problem to have!

“Wes has a great handshake and looks thru yer eyes to yer brain when he talks to you.”
He sure does. Remembers who you are, too.
You know, if after all this, Lieberman DOES pull off a win in November, Connecticut must deserve him. Geezo. He is so pathetic.
Don’t mean to be a pain, but I figure this thread is my best chance to make a plug for my guy. If you feel so inclined, please visit Wes Clark’s website – lots of very interesting information there.
There’s info about his PAC and the candidates WesPAC supports (mostly Fighting Dems), his position papers, op-eds he’s written, petitions, all kinds of good stuff. He also has a blog (click on “Community” at the top), so feel free to join the discussion – and don’t miss Wes’ ClarkCasts.
God willing, Wes will run in ‘08 (fingers crossed)

shooogarp at 145, here’s the quote:
Novakula gave an interview to Mark shields where he claimed that the Wilson Civil will be dismissed. Gee eeeeeeeeeee WHO KNEW?….Novakula is now a law expert….He also said, the NY Times bank disclosure was far worse than what he did by printing that Valerie worked for the CIA…….Can anyone say DOOSHBAG!
Tony Snow says today that Israel should “try” to limit “collateral damage” in it’s latest warfest. Yeah right, Tony. Try telling that to the little kid crying on the street looking at the pieces of his mama laying all around.
Anne – Leiberman is so arrogant (and clueless) that he doesn’t think anyone would dare publish backround info on him. And obviously, he’s not too savvy when it comes to the internets.
“You work three jobs? … Uniquely American, isn’t it? I mean, that is fantastic that you’re doing that.” —George W. Bush, to a divorced mother of three, Omaha, Nebraska, Feb. 4, 2005
I’m sure she thanks God every day for her good fortune.
Anne @ 156,
I just don’t think Joe is quite reckoning with the speed of online fact-checking… and the existence of the thousands of us that are motivated to watch him like a hawk.
Nicely said, Anne @156. I totally agree. We need to win this one. Thank God for Ned Lamont – he stepped up to the plate when we needed him.

After Mrs. Wilson’s name and identity of her cover company were revealed by the White House to the media, at least one CIA non-official cover agent monitoring Iran’s nuclear weapons program was tortured and executed, according to our intelligence sources. In addition, WMR has learned that covert Iranian backchannels employed by a current member of the U.S. House of Representatives in support of Plame’s Brewster Jennings & Associates network were thoroughly compromised by the White House leak. The member of Congress, who, like Plame, had been an earlier CIA “non-official cover (NOC) energy consultant” in the Middle East during the late 1970s and early 80s, and who was familiar with the early weapons of mass destruction proliferation involving the A. Q. Khan network of Pakistan, Libya, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia, was compromised and he and his connections to the Brewster Jennings & Associates intelligence network and Iranian government contacts were made known to adversarial intelligence agencies. The staff of the member whose covert Iranian contact network was compromised was targeted and tainted with Jack Abramoff money, putting the U.S. Representative in extreme political jeopardy.

And that is a perfect example of the Establishment Media not doing its job.
Amen. Remember when 41 had his clueless moment in the checkout line at the store? 43’s comment is much worse in its absolute lack of empathy (not to mention political tone-deafness), but didn’t get nearly the attention (if any) that his father’s gaffe did.
Eli – yeah, the being an ass thing isn’t helping Joe, but it is helping CT voters to see just how big of an ass he is, and how good Ned looks in comparison, and so Joe can just keep those stupid comments coming. At this point, I think he’s got some kind of compulsion to say stupid things, so I don’t see it stopping anytime soon.
ayldt @174 and Leslie @178:
Bush has had countless gaffes, fiascoes, and outright crimes that would have sunk any Democrat all by themselves.
The Lies of LIEberman – a self-fulfilling prophecy.
I told everyone once before but here goes again. My grandfather worked for Brewster Jennings (Sobol Bros.) before WW 2. I have a picture of him pumping gas at the station and the sign behind him reads “Due to the war, this station will not sell gas after 7:00 PM.
He joined the Navy and his ship sunk in Italy.
The staff of the member whose covert Iranian contact network was compromised was targeted and tainted with Jack Abramoff money, putting the U.S. Representative in extreme political jeopardy.
Staff and member being, all the while, innocent as new-laid eggs, we presume . . .

little dog –
Another big soft hug goes to you, honey! Those bittersweet emotions are the most confusing, aren’t they? I’m so happy you have new pups, though! And an extra special one that tugs on your heartstrings in an extra special way, too, sounds like.
Tandy, when she’s not in her Sphinx pose (to keep an eye on the two of us so she won’t miss a trick) will also often place head between paws in that position, too. Damned cute.
I think their evolutionary trick was cuteness. Don’t they just look the very CUTEST just when they’re begging for a morsel from your plate? “Mommy, look at me, aren’t I CUTE? How can you not give me that last mushroom?”
Tandy had us worried a few days ago — she’s got awful allergies again (same time every year), but we didn’t know that’s what it was at first. In prior years she would lick one paw obsessively until she caused a staph infection. THIS year she had a patch on her right elbow — not within licking distance — which she scratched at with her rear paw. A big patch of fur fell out and the raw skin looked puple and raised.
I was up all night reading online about various skin ailments and was terribly worried it was the beginning of a “hot spot” a.k.a. “wet eczema.”
Luckily the vet said it wasn’t, but thought it was just a variation on the ol’ seasonal allergy response. So she’s taking both benadryl and hydroxyzine and getting benadryl cream on the spot.
I really hate seeing her suffer for any reason, but especially now when she needs all her inner immune resources.
Am also trying my damnedest to get the chaotic house cleaned up and straightened up enough for us to go get her the “little sister” we’ve been promising her now for months. She loves playing with other doggies at the dog park so much, we think she’ll enjoy having a little sister to “shepherd.” But it’s tricky — we want her to be excited in a good way, but not stressed out.
Do you have suggestions/tips for how best to introduce a new canine sibling into the pack?
op99: Yeah, I know. Just thought I’d post it anyway…
Brewster Jennings was a real person — the head of Mobil Oil, I believe. His name was appropriated by the CIA for its front entity.
Eli 181
Exactly right.
It’s just that at a televised town hall, when the Prez’s utterances are being scrutinized, there’s an even higher duty to report that gaffe as a gaffe.
They played the quote many times on teevee, each time framing it as if he was just such a great guy for cheering on that poor, exhausted single mother.

Re the puppies, yep I said puppies. The was another oe born as I drove home last night.
Two little girl puppies:

Both yellow labs.
Re” Wes Clark. I was a Clark supporter in the last cycle, if Gert would only get on board and really let him run, I would get chance to be Clark supporter in this cycle. Please Run. Please?
My Wes lcark trivia bit: I was privledged o be one on Wes Clarks sponsors when he joined hte New York Athletic Club. As I wrote in my recommendation letter “if I couls wholeheatedly trust him to govern my country, I can cetainly wholeheartedly endorse him to become a member of my club”
Re the trial” we have at least 2 more days to go (but those days don’t resume until Thursday and I have an interlocutory appeal in the same case on Wed. ho can you have the appeal before you have finished the case? don’t ask)
Anyway, I am very burnt. Been on my feet talking ofr the past 8 hours and have no voice and very tired feet. Was wearing a killer pait of Ralf Laurn mock crock slingbacks, very pointy toes and heels. Made the right impression, but at a cost.
Lotus tahnks for thinking of me.
They played the quote many times on teevee, each time framing it as if he was just such a great guy for cheering on that poor, exhausted single mother.
If cheering her on had been what he was doing, it might not have been so bad…
There is a very enlightening video which I believe explains a lot of Bush’s bizarre behavior.
Lotus- He was a Motor Machinist’s Mate, and went down with the ship on September 12, 1944.
However, when the Washington War Memorial opened and I searched the registry, I found out he was listed in a cemetary in Nettuno Italy. My mother couldn’t believe it. She never knew.
Mrs. K8 – I just brought a puppy home to the older dog a couple months ago… tried to find the opposite sex and a pup that would grow to a similar size. My big guy is pretty flexible but he wasn’t all that thrilled with an 8 week old pup (he was afraid he’d hurt her).
I’d say it helped a LOT to be able to separate them – give the older one some quiet time…
maggie s – Clinton is looking out for #1 – AGAIN. After all, he and Joe are both former chairs of the DLC.
So is Hillary’s vow to back Ned, if he wins the primary, a bait-and-switch?

LHP, will you be posting pics of the looseheadpups, I hope? My girlfriend *loooooves* yellow lab puppies.

Ooo, lhp, court feet — makes me cringe to read that! Mine got so bad so fast, I had to switch to appeals. (But I didn’t/don’t have the self-protecting psyche a lawyer must, so hadda quit the whole field pretty quick — the nightmares and migraines won.)

Damn, that’s funny.
oh and, Mrs. K8? now that the puppy is 5.5 months old, they are pretty great pals… old dog teaches pup to be a “big dog”, puppy makes the old one play…
OldCoastie –
That’s good advice, although Tandy actually seems to LIKE hanging with the other “girls.” [We plan the same early spaying scenario — we’ll probably rescue a pup again from the county pound, and they insist on doing the spay/neuter stuff first anyhow — and figure there won’t be too much estrogen-related fighting to worry about.]
As far as keeping them apart — we do the housetraining stuff by means of crate training, as it worked like a charm for Tandy, not a single in-house accident, and we figure that the crate will also serve as a safe “den” for the new cute rascal. Then I’ll also rely on the expandable “baby gate” for strategic placement.
I’m trying in the meantime to work hard enough on physical therapy (for myself) that moving *quickly* to break something up won’t be a total impossibility….
How did you introduce the new pup? On neutral turf away from the house first?
Eli #9
Jane will carry through with her punning clan.
Gosh, but I want a puppy. Now more so, since all this talk of pups.
Gosh, but I want a puppy. Now more so, since all this talk of pups.
They’re very pupular here.
The first time momma of baby mittens and brdget had to held down to let them nurse the first time, but once she foung out how THAT works she has now gone off the deep end the other way.
Won’t voluntarily leave them to eat or go potty and if you force outside with a leash won’t go potty anyway just scratches at the door and howls to be let back in to the pups.
The daddy dog got to see his handiwork for a bit last night. I think he thought they were rodents.
Mama Growled at him after 5 minutes, but that was only 15 minutes after the last delivery and I think she was stilled POd.
You know the “you did this to me!” kinda mood
shoephone said:
So is Hillary’s vow to back Ned, if he wins the primary, a bait-and-switch?
I don’t think so. She couldn’t support Joe as an independent – and run for the party’s nomination for president. I think she’ll stick to word.
Bill doesn’t want the support for the war to be an issue for obvious reasons. Too late, imho.
It was a gamble – for the reps on the hill – too support the war. They lost. I really don’t want any senator who supported this war to run for prez.
and your little dog – checked out your website and loved it.
But you don’t deal in paw-phones?
shoephone — ya wanta puppy? — cool! — I’ve got six 6-week-old pitbull puppies here — free to any FDL reader! the lil muthafuckas are damn noisy when all six of them start screaming
Mrs. K8 – actually the puppy was a bit of an “accident” (I didn’t really mean to get a puppy that day). We were taking a drive with the Big Boy and stopped at a shelter about 70 miles from home. I spent about 3 hours looking at her trying to decide (cute litter!) and if I hadn’t taken her with me, she would have been gone… the shelter insisted on meeting the big dog (he wouldn’t look at the puppy at first), I shoved ‘em both in the car (no crate, no nothin’!) and home we went. So much for a carefully planned introduction!
It worked out fine – no big deal (I worried and worried about it). Henry was not hostile to the puppy ever but he wasn’t exactly thrilled with the idea either. He changed his mind when she finally passed the “delicate” stage and they could play together with some vigor.
LHP –
Congrats on Baby Mittens & Bridget! Don’t suppose you have a digital camera and a place to upload pix, eh?
OldCoastie –
That’s exactly what we envision. Years ago on a dog newsgroup I read posts by folks saying how wise it was to introduce a puppy when your only sweetie starts to get on in years — it keeps ‘em young! And then you and the youngster are already deeply bonded and can console each other — when the oldster crosses over the “Rainbow Bridge.”
Sigh. That’s the one and only thing (shorter life span) that I just can’t stand about dogs. I’ll shut up about it now, or I’ll start crying…

I don’t think the NYAC has anything to do wit the Heisman trophy. I could be wrong. There ande so mnay trophy’s in that joint they can’t fit them all in the treophy room and they are not only scattered in cases all over the club, but fill up store rooms.
I don’t know if this is true or not (and don’t want to encourage cat burglars) but at prospective meber’s events, they tell them that there is more gold and silver in our trophy room than at Fort Knox.
It may be the biggest single collection of olympic medals in the US, maybe the world. It’s pretty impressive the firdt time you see it

Thanks so much for all the details! I’m very very good at worrying, and I guess some things you just can’t work out in advance to the tiniest aspect. They gotta connect and bond to each other in their own way.

Re; Pixx of pups
I will see if my 12 year old can do it. I lack skills.
of course that should be “they’re lucky.”
I knew that…. ;-)
pawnaise to the rescue!
Congrats on the pups, lhp – I don’t think there is anything cuter than a lab. We have two – Casey, who is yellow and 7 yrs old, and Molly, who is black and just turned 2. We got Molly as a playmate for Casey, who was getting a little bored, and it’s worked out just great. They love each other, as well as the cats, who happen to love them back. It’s a sight to see Casey giving Ebony – the black cat – a tongue bath like she was his mother.
When I married my husband, he had the ugliest mutt you’ve ever seen – he used to say “his mother was a German short-hair pointer and his father was a pack of dogs.” We got Samantha, a yellow lab, about a year after we were married, and she came into heat at about a year. We took hubby’s dog off to be neutered, but he must have had some residual swimmers in there, ’cause two months later, when I was already a week overdue with my first child, she gave birth to 10 puppies. I wanted to be first! I was much more miserable than she was! As it turned out, two days after she whelped, she gave birth to a dead puppy, and the vet said we needed to watch her through the night. Hubby was supposed to be at a sales meeting in the morning, so I stayed up until about 5:00 – and as I sent him off to work a couple hours later, said I thought I might be in labor…gave birth to our daughter about 16 hours later.
Funniest part of that story was that the morning after we had been up all night whelping puppies, hubby called in to my mom’s office. They all knew she was waiting eagerly for her first grandchild to be born, but she wasn’t in yet when he called. We’re pretty sure whoever he talked to thought he was calling with news about me going into labor, so she breathlessly asked if she could give her a message when she got in. Hubby has quite the twisted sense of humor. The message he left? “Tell her there’s 10 of them, and they’re all black…long pause while co-worker gasped for breath…the dog had her puppies last night.”
Sorry for the long, OT story, but it’s a classic at my house.
I will see if my 12 year old can do it. I lack skills.
If you can navigate to a file, and cut-and-paste a URL, you can use Imageshack.
Henry isn’t old (4) but he finally matured and that seemed to be a good time to bring in the new one… I think I’d lose my mind if I had 2 big babies! training one at a time seems to be enough!

Mrs. K8 – don’t worry yourself too much about the details – you won’t be able to even start to guess what suprises await you! I read everything about adding a second dog and have ended up ignoring most of it…
about the only thing I really was pretty adamant about what not paying TOO much attention to the puppy (everybody else cooed over her and ignored Henry and it hurt his feelings)… the result has been that he isn’t jealous now when I pet or play with her and she isn’t very demanding about getting all the attention.

Yeah, you can always tell a Republican. They have a certain aura. When I first got invloved in politics, me and my son would watch C-Span and before they would list the candidates name and party on the bottom of the screen, we would guess if he or she was a GOP or a POG (my son’t name for Dem). I know they are a different breed but it is almost like they are a different color.
It would be nice, IMO, if all the blogs got together and decided to really change America and vote everyone out. Or maybe let each party keep 6 of them just for memories.
lhp – yes, the presser is at C&L. But be sure to check out the photo (”Choose Your Own Caption”) at the top of the page.

Dollars to donuts that Joe-nertia is not computer literate.
Netroots aren’t about blogs; netroots are all those progressives who are computer literate, who are able to researh the internet to factcheck and validate politicos’ positions, who are able to collapse cycle time over traditional campaigns, who are able to reach out and collapse the degrees of separation between each other to virtually nothing.

Puppy pix are cute (my little 12 year old puppy is in them)
I thought my Shih Tzu wanted another dog to play with, but when I took her to meet a Havanese puppy she wanted nothing to do with it. The only dogs she likes are smaller than she is — she’s crazy about Chihuahuas — except, for some reason, she likes Jack Russells. Anyway, she told me she was just fine being the only dog. She added that she likes cats better, that my big Siamese plays with her, and (she confided) the cats weren’t wild about taking an another dog. I thanked her for that advice and told her she’d saved me a shitload of money.
One suggestion for anyone looking for a first (or second or third) dog — please consider adopting an adult. If you know the breed you want, there are rescue organizations that can be contacted via the AKC website. Petsmart’s adoption booths are also a good source, and your dog (if you have one) can meet the new prospect. Shelter dogs are of course always a mitzvah, but not a great idea unless you have the fortitude to walk away if they don’t have exactly what you’re looking for. I can’t go to a shelter because I know I’d come back with three completely unsuitable dogs.

W’s brain…
Barbara B – yes, puppies ARE a pain in the ass… I did try to integrate an adult dog into the household but a different kind of chaos ensued… (and not the good kind)… the big guy definitely needed a companion but I needed a little more “training control” over the situation and the pup fit the bill… and a happy household ensued… I am very glad that both are shelter dogs.

Thanks! Mr. LittleDog has been working like a fiend for months to perfect a new website for us. We’re beta-testing it now and will introduce the public to it next week.
It will be nice for him not to be so single-minded for a change.
If you want to try it out we’ll give you a 15% discount for your trouble. Write me at janeATdogstuffDOTcom for the url if you’re interested.

If you can find some raw bones for them – - turkey necks will do, too – - you can keep them occupied.
Bones babysit pups like teevee babysits kids.
Wasn’t Wes Clark a Bush-supporting Republican once?
NO! Steve B, he wasn’t. Never has been. While in the military he wasn’t a ‘member’ of either party but after he retired, when he made this succinct statement:
An endorsement — if it comes to that — and a bitchslap, either way.
This Wesley Clark person is clever!
I still have my “Wes Clark 1st blog division” bumper sticker on my car.
I voted for Gen. Clark in the Mi primaries in 04. He is a great man. Send some dollars to Was-Pac, he needs our support.
Good on you, General.
Great blog,
Can’t understand a militarist like Wes Clark being good for democrats? When one looks at his military past…well just take a look. I think we find a person that sees the world only through a bomb site. This guy has a lot of red on his hands, and we are not talking paint here.
You do realise that anyone would look “red”, when you sniff spray paint.
So I suppose that you’ve determined that hurling olive branches at extremist militant groups, like the Serbia forces under Milosevic would’ve stopped the genocide?? Maybe you can give it a “shot” against the Janjaweed in Darfur, but make sure you bring a security escort with you.
Having been in the military does not make him a militarist. He believes in diplomacy backed by force – always diplomacy first. That got him a lot of criticism from people who were militarist. He used force to save lives, and he did save a lot of lives in the former Yugoslavia.
Wes You have my vote right now, keep up the good work and I know you will make it into the White House.
Dear Sir:
I would vote, without reservation, for you to be the next president. I felt the same way in 2004. You represent the obvious choice;intelligent, reasonable and yet strong we so desperately need if America is to survive as a democracy. While, campaigns have become such vile and exhausting battles, we need, more than ever, people up to the task. Your military service speaks for itself. While we don’t deserve the sacrifice, we appreciate it. Keep on bringing reason to the table. Thank you, Sue Chichetto
All roads point to Wes Clark. The man simply rocks.
Thank You General Clark for speaking up, Joe Lieberman must be revealed for what he is before we get ourselves into another war. Check out the new flash game I just completed at http://zenwire.com/flashmedia-slaplieberman.php titled Slap the Truth out of Joe Lieberman.
Go Wes!
Feel the love for Wes Clark, indeed.
If this wasn’t a family blog…sigh.
Rasmussen has the primary poll at 46 Liebermann, 40 Lamont after you dig through all the crap about the general election
