Lanny Davis was on the Washington Journal last week, calling Lieberman's critics "bigots" and "liars." He was introduced as "former White House Counsel," and according to Colin McEnroe, Davis is also an advisor to the Lieberman campaign. But maybe when he shows up to hurl merde on behalf of "Short Ride" Joe, he should be mentioning that he's also on the White House payroll?
In June 2005, President Bush appointed Mr. Davis to serve on the five-member Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board, created by the U.S. Congress as part of the 2005 Intelligence Reform Act.
Davis is listed in the "2006 White House Salary List" recently published by the National Journal. All we can say is if his Washington Journal appearance is any indication of the caliber of defenders Lieberman's got going to bat for him, we wholeheartedly approve of the angry, desperate-sounding Davis.

Yassss.
Another shill for freedom.
I have no patience for these nitwits today…
Hee, the campaign that couldn’t shoot straight.
Nice catch, Jane. I was wondering why Davis was pimping the Lieberman line so strong. There was all that “Davis” wouldn’t speak if Hillary didn’t direct it (kinda like you and Kos *g*). That didn’t seem right somehow. I think Hillary is staying clear of the quicksand that is named Lieberman (like Joe-bright’s misplaced train schedule).
But Davis going out there for Lieberman and his Republican/tiangulated/business pals?
Now that sounds right.

Imm sed “tiangulated”
This is why my husband won’t wear one. It happened to him once.
Shoulda waited for this thread! Oh well, pardon my repost.
Got contacted by the Lamont folks today wanting me to write to papers so I did. Here’s what I came up with:
Joe Lieberman wants Connecticut voters to believe that he is a true Democrat and that it is foolish to characterize him as “in bed” with the Republican administration. It’s hard to take this assertion seriously having seen the Senator in his debate with challenger Ned Lamont. From his continual use of the folksy Reaganesque “There you go again” to his incessant and quite churlish charges of flip flopping he showed himself to be quite willing to use the tactics of his Republican colleagues. He all but accused Mr. Lamont of “Cut and Run” mentality.
He insists that Mr. Lamont is running a one issue campaign. This is not true but it must be clear even to the Senator that the occupation of Iraq is the pressing issue of the day. And what is his defense of supporting this catastrophic enterprise? He believed and still believes it was the right thing to do. Further he claims credit for being principled and for crossing partisan lines to show his support for the failed policies of the current administration even though that support is squarely at odds with the will not only of his constituency but with the National polity.
One can only assume from his constant pointing to his ability to bring home the bacon that the Senator believes that being the breadwinner for Connecticut is all the representation he is required to perform. Is pork the only price the people of Connecticut will demand from a representative who will not represent the will of the ordinary citizenry? I hope they will hold their political power at least as dear as their pocket books.
If you’d like to do the same, the Lamont site makes it easy just go here.
If Boxer was coming, they wouldn’t get Lanny or Brooks off the bench. This race is one good story after another. How many democrats who have to face another election will come out for joe.
Hey, Mr. Davis has not one, but 2 degrees from Yale! Are we allowed to criticize his type?
Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board
And that’s been a smashing success, hasn’t it?

The Citgo refinery was once owned by Seven-Eleven food stores. When it was purchased by Venezuala, there were supply agreements that ran with the purchase. Don’t know if they are still running- or whether they survived Southland’s purchase by Ito-Yokodo- but the states mentioned are states where there is very little store presence by Seven Eleven- or where an area licensee owns the stores.
Well, if there was to be a march in New Haven, it could end up on the green close to Yale after going to the hospital and everbody could hammer home the Yale connection wearing skull and bones and other fun stuff.
I wrote to wtnh news the other day to complain about their lack of objectivity in saying that Maura harassed Lieberman at the Stamford Irish Pub. I just got the following response from Marc Davis:
Thank you for your recent e-mail. A review of the script of the story on 7/10 shows that we referred to the picketers and the woman’s verbal confrontation at Senator Lieberman’s event as “a bit of of political harrassment.” We respectfully disagree and believe it accurately desribes the tone of both the picketers we witnessed and the woman’s verbal exchange with Senator Lieberman. The reason you were able to asses that the woman “asked Lieberman the question in a calm manner,” is because we ran her exchange with the Senator essentially unedited so that you the viewer could clearly make that judgement. I believe we are the only news media outlet
that was willing to run that segement of the Lieberman event. We did this because we feel this kind of dissent and verbal confrontation is a very big part of the Lieberman story. You’ll be interested to know that the Lieberman campaign was very upset and found our story to be unfair. Before we went on the air, they attempted to discredit the woman in hopes that we wouldn’t run it.
I’m sorry if you found our description in anyway offensive or unfair but any kind of confrontation at these usually well staged photo opportunities is somewhat out of the ordinary. We take our objectivity very seriously but realize that objectivity is sometimes subject to interpretation. I certainly take your observations seriously and hope you will continue to watch.

BREAKING STORY (I think) –
Republican Drops out of CT Senate Race
http://www.mydd.com/story/2006.....commenttop
by Matt Stoller, Wed Jul 12, 2006 at 04:57:06 PM EST
The current nobody on the R line is dropping out because of a gambling scandal, not because Republicans are going to put up a serious candidate and hope to win in a three way race. Nope, it’s because he gambled.
I wonder if Lieberman’s move to run as an independent is still principled.

I’ll chip in my 2 cents for what it’s worth.
I think Madsen is more accurate than we give him credit when he is relaying insider source material and essentially acting as a conduit for whistleblowers. Remember he broke the stories on NSA spying and illegal CIA rendition 6 months before it surfaced in the press. I haven’t read the item but it sounds like Madsen in this case is editorializing an opinion without facts and purely speculating. If so, he would do himself a favour to emphasize the distinction.
On the delays, (I should emphasize that I believe that Fitz is not an intentional part of those) but I am of the speculative mind that the delays are the product of a deeply intense and covert battle for the control of the Whitehouse between Rove (and his potential future Rethuglican candidate franchise) and Cheney’s plans for bequeathing control of the private military industrial oiligarch complex he has constructed post 9/11.
The fuse in between this explosive showdown is the possible threat of Rove popping out like a jack-in-the-box from the Plame case’s Sealed vs Sealed…(continued)
Coo-ee, another ‘pay and spray pundit’ shilling shrilly…But this time lending their meager talents to the cause of an across-the-aisle buttboy swirling in the drain of public perception…ahem, bipartisanship…What great strides the noble overseers are making!

JEEBus — do you think CT’s “Gooper Cindy Sheehan” got an early heads-up this morning?
lotus 26 -
More likely neither. Or, maybe (a) if they can do it without press coverage (hard to see how they could pull that off, keeping a signficant influx of troops out of the news).
What a mess.
The gas wars are coming to the homeland, eh? There are quite a number of Citgo stations in Minnesota, this is going to be noticed.
The interesting thing will be to see if CIA/Plame blowback will have to light the fuse or if this will all evaporate into the non-existent speculative airs from whence it came.
Speculation is fun…kinda like reading the press in reverse.

CT Bob, are you here? How fast can you GET here?
Lotus, at first I was pissed when I read the email from Marc Davis — because I don’t feel “harrassed” was appropriate. But on second reading, I felt a little bit better because Lieberman was pissed about the story. Um, hello, what do you think will happen when you ditch your party so you can have a power grab and continue to kiss Bush’s ass?
Also, I liked that Marc Davis called the event a “well staged photo opportunity”. Totally a la Bush.
oh I am just sickened, wolfie has a military guy on who is spinning so fast and furious about Iraq that Rumpelstiltskin would be envious. But then Dumsfeld his boss is there.

Malvinas, Maldives, Marianas — if lhp gets three female pups, she’s all set with names!
I mean if there was a REPUBLICAN senator in trouble, and Al Gore and Howard Dean and Al Franken all came out defending him/her, would we expect Republicans to re-elect him/her?? Sheesh.

Nice job.
From that NYT story on Casey’s call for more troops in B’dad, the last sentence goes:
“We all have this last chance to reconcile and work hard to avoid the conflict and the blood,” Mr. Maliki went on. “If it fails - God forbid - I don’t know what will be Iraq’s fate.”
This race is really revealing about party loyalty or whatever they call it.
If you have rules.. then you play by them. If someone mounts a challenge AS a democrat and wins the primary they ARE the democratic party candidate and SHOULD receive the support of the democratic party and no democrats should run against the winner of the primary. It is that simple.
What appears to be happening is that the grass roots are speaking and the bog boys don’t like what they have to say and they cry FOUL PLAY… lie cheat and play dirty.
Why would anyone want THEM to be in YOUR party? Why would YOU want to be in THEIR party?
What a sorry mess… It’s all power and ego and who give a hoot about the people!

That would leave the field free for Lieberman to follow his heart and run as a repug, no?
Check out this post on my Kos page: I asked for a primer on CT politics and this was part of his response:
“The [Republican] candidate for senator is a given to come in last. The only reason he was even nominated is because the other guy was such a radioactive racist the party wanted nothing to do with him so Alan Schlesinger got it by default. Support for him is soft from what I can tell. 6 years ago the token Republican got 33% more or less and that was before he was sent to jail for child molestation. Incidentally, had the Supreme Court not ruled for their guy Dumbo we would likely have had a child molester as a Senator thanks in no small part to Joenomentum.”
ROFL
and we know that Tom Delay is an honorable man and would never attempt to bamboozle anybody, ever …
DefJef–do you get the feeling sometimes that the Dems are mad that somebody’s PAYING ATTENTION??
Damn straight we are!!!
BLOG POWER
My prediction:
Lamont stomps Lieberman in the primary, Lieberman comes under intense pressure to quite the race and not force a 3-way. He takes a $5 to 10 million dollar lobbying gig for one of the big defense firms, where he will be able to exploit his relationships on both sides of the political fence in Washington.
It would be great if the goopers are prohibited from removing Delay from the ballot- and he is declared ineligible to run as well. Sort of appropriate way to end his career.
More from :
Schlesinger out; Diana Urban in? (BTW: Urban is a big time anti-war Republican who should be taken very seriously…in other words, so much for Joementum’s support among Republicans.)
Urban, 56, will be running as an anti-war candidate and in a brief telephone interview sounded like a Republican version of Cindy Sheehan. The three term state legislator, claiming the Bush administration possesses a “flat learning curve”, says America went into Iraq for the wrong reasons. She says she was heavily influenced by recently published account of the war, Cobra II. On a more philosophical level, she cleaves to the Sun-Tzu’s Art of War, declaring that her campaign strategy comes from him: “The path will reveal itself to you.”
Claiming “a number of women asked me over and over again to do this”, Urban is not giving up her race for re-election to the state legislature, for which she is unopposed from her affluent southeastern Connecticut district, previously represented by Iraq war enthusiast, Congressman Rob Simmons.
A Republican anti-war candidate with nothing to lose and everything to gain…Joe, you’re screwed.
UPDATE: Quick info on Urban. Also some good stuff here.

lotus, the CT race is suddenly upside-down land. :)
Ha ha. Lieberman can play his cards for the general right now, but no way is he a viable candidate for his ‘party of one’ if he loses the primary.
Buh, bye, Joe!
Delay is creating his own reality. Faithful to the end.
Tommie is the one who proclaimed that he’s not eligible. The judge said, uh, not so fast.
And the ‘policy statement” was issued by a judge appointed by GHW Bush in 1991. Once again underlining the current reorganization of the American political landscape: You are either with us or agin’ us. (where “us” = neocon criminal hacks)
This one’s getting interesting.

so how can he run? if he’s not a resident?
By keeping track of- for example- how many face cards have been played at a blackjack table- a gambler can improve his odds. Cardcounters are banned in casinos if “found out” (supposedly).
Hasn’t the deadline for him to declare as the Gooper he is passed (in May, maybe)?
Bobby G - it is very bad.
I don’t think the GOP candidate either being absent or irrelevant necessarily hurts HoJo (unfortunately).
With no one else to vote for, true red repugs would feel justified in voting for HoJo, who they love with all their hearts anyway.
Question is, would that plus the incumbent-lover crowds give him enough to win?
so I guess Bill Bennett wont be a consultant to the GOP in CT this election cycle?
Good thing we’ve got the road map- take out the roadmap- quick- LOOK AT THE FUCKIN ROADMAP–where the fuck ARE we? (crash)

OldCoastie at 98: He did, but the judge saw through it and recognized that he’d only moved away so the GOP could nominate someone electable, and he could spend his campaign dough on legal expenses. He’s not ineligible because he could simply move back at any point before the election and be eligible again. (Also because he and his wife still own a house there in which they are frequently seen, even if he’s declared his suburban Virginia condo his “official” residence.)
Basically, the judge’s ruling is that you can’t go through the process of having a primary and then go through shenanigans like fleeing the state for no reason other than to switch to another candidate who you like better. It takes the decision away from the primary voters and puts it in the hands of the fatcat incumbent.
