Don’t worry all, I am on my way to ct. on the 25th of july, to knock out the remaining 12 people who still are backing the lieberman. My dad still lives in orange, where I grew up, and I will be rounding up as many mishpucka as I can to get to the polls on the 8th, even if I have to buy all of them pizza at sallys, or corned beef sandwiches at that deli in amityville, which I forget the name. See you then, give em hell ned!

How is it that an appearance by Joe Biden would help any candidate. This guy loves to hear himself talk and talk and talk. Not that this is unusual among political types, but he just seems so ineffective. (Except for MBNA) Heck I still have not gotten over the Clarence Thomas hearings back when Joe the Hair Plug chaired the Judiciary Committee. Now that was a disaster.

Re: lindsey graham

I think Dark Black hit it at 126 above. He is a military judge in the Reserves. Within the military legal system that is kind of a term of art- all military attorney are “Judge Advocates,” but some (O6 and up) get appointed as “military judges” - they preside at courts-martial and things like that.

Scarecrow - if you’re still around, I think I can find the last three, more organized posts, so I’ll do that. They hit a lot of stuff other than the Graham Kyl mess, but I’ll link them there.

darkblack - as well it should not. *g* BTW, in case no one has mentioned it the last hour or so, you are an absolute genius db.

JayinVT - that is a horribly sad story. I’m sure the woman he was with and his family are beyond horrified and traumatized. Condolences for your friend - their brother sounds like a very special person.

O/T but wanted to get this out, incase you all had not seen this news report (the murdered man’s brother in London is a friend of mine. Naturally, it’s made front page in the evening papers (Evening Standard).

Campaigner knifed to death in US

A political campaigner from north London, tipped for a glittering career, has been stabbed to death in the US.
Police said Alan Senitt, 27, was trying to protect his female companion when they were targeted by armed robbers as they walked home in Washington DC.

The former chairman of the Union of Jewish Students (UJS), from Pinner, had moved to the US to work on Democrat Mark Warner’s presidential campaign.

Two men, a youth and a woman have been charged with murder.

I’m hearing it was a complete bomb, nobody was there except the LieberYouth and Joe was terrified to face the crowd. He snuck in the back door.

Well, the event was hosted by the Irish-Americans in Connecticut (formed, we were told, to help cheerlead for the Good Friday accords of eight years ago led, on this side of the pond, by Bill Clinton and, IIRC, George Mitchell). Hence the Irish Pub.

I am sure of only one thing - being a reporter is not so easy - but I would guess 40-60 people were there, with the middle aged well-represented (I counted myself twice since to pass as any kind of Dem I need to induce a mild schizophrenic state…).

Lieberman did in fact come in the back door, and it was planned to avoid any surprises out front, but I never saw anything that could pass as a “crowd” of non-supporters actually gather.

But a caveat - for a good chunk of the time I was inside some Irish pub with frosted glass windows, so to scan for excitement outside I had to tippy-toe to peek through the regular windows, and I rarely deign to do that in pubs of any type. My nose for news was pressed against the glass but I could only make out hairstyles and disembodied heads on the sidewalk. Kinda weird; where was Hunter S. Thompson when I needed him?

As to the event being a “bomb” - who knows? There were several media outlets (WCBS 880 radio, CH 8 CT News, NY Times, that I saw). Lieberman spoke a bit, so maybe a news station got a useful soundbite (but for my money, he did not deliver soundbites well; I did not see any staffers tearing out their hair, but the campaign guy was already balding).

Possible news - Lieberman was asked about Bill Clinton coming to campaign for him - Clinton worked on the first Lieberman campaign in 1970, and Joe was the first non-AR Senator to endorse Bill in ‘91 (we were told), so who knows? Anyway, Lieberman did not announce a date by any means, but he did not rule it out (why would he?)

For myself, the event was a bomb because Jane missed it (goes without saying, but I said it).

I did meet Ed Anderson, who was very calm and cogent chatting with Mark Leibovich of the NY Times outside after Lieberman left. Ed apparently blogs at My Left Nutmeg as TrueBlueCT (IIRC, and sic?). Leibovich recently did the Kennedy/Ohio story, works in the Times Washington Bureau, and is in CT doing a piece on Lieberman. I did not infer from the Kennedy story that he is a fan of lefty blogs, but mileage may vary.

Other tidbit - Joe announced that John Lewis had more or less endorsed Lieberman up in Hartford; take that, Maxine. I have not researched that.

I may have an opportunity to attend other Lieberman events, and I guess I ought to check Lamont’s schedule, too.

And a bit of local lore - the Goodwives River opens into a useful cove which was once an active fishing port. Back when fishing captains built homes on the river, they would sail away for months at a time and the good wives would stay behind. No news on the activities of the not-so-good wives. So there you go - amaze the natives.
