Somerby replied to the previous dust-up at:

http://www.dailyhowler.com/dh071006.shtml

For non link clickers: Somerby is conciliatory about his tone: “we wish we could have found a more cheerful way to lodge our complaints about Roger’s post”.

But he stands by his guns on the substance, writing:

On the liberal web, we often brag that we represent the “reality-based” community. In the future, progressives will continue to find themselves at war with well-funded dissemblers—tribunes of powerful upper-class interests. Our view? Aggressive embrace of “reality”—of the traditions of fact and logic—will constitute our best hope for success. It’s always tempting to overstate—and being human, we all end up doing it. But for progressives, it’s a road to defeat. There they go again, we should say, when tribunes of the powerful do it.

Rent a DVD called “Orwell Rolls in His Grave” - you will NEVER watch Sun news shows, or most other Corp. owned news again. We have limited free press in our Country today - don’t believe me - watch the DVD and T-H-I-N-K about it!

WE THE PEOPLE will never be truely heard until the playing field is more open. The Corporate owned/war profiteering thugs controlling our media today can say whatever they want - they own it and know exactly what they are doing!

MSNBC = GE
ABC = Westinghouse

Virginia deserves better – the problems require better.

Divisive partisan politics are preventing the country from coming to grips with critical issues facing our nation. From the fight against radical extremist terrorists to global warming to the weakening of the middle class to our burgeoning debt and failing social security system – there are major, major problems which have all worsened over the last five years. We need, in fact require, the type of common sense, pragmatic, integrity of people like Jim Webb. People who have a broad and experienced vision, with fresh ideas, and a willingness to roll up their sleeves and get to work at bringing about constructive change.

What we don’t need is the arrogance of back room politicians who see their hold on power as some sort of legitimate birthright or who pander to the lower common denominator of the political sentiment of the moment.

Given the opportunity to get to know the character of Jim Webb – and the opportunity to really see how little George Allen has accomplished (other than to be the lap dog of the moneyed Republican special interests) — Virginians may well make the choice in November to bring to the Senate someone who can speak to and for all Virginians and who will work for our common progress rather than for his own self interest.

George Allen says Jim Webb wants to “duck tail and run?” Did Allen, by chance, tag along on Bush’s Elvis tour last week?

Mary, back at #48: “Hume is famous for — what, exactly?”

Answering that question requires a little historical perspective before getting to “Bassett-faced” hume. The following are some career-launching stories and the journalists who sprang from them–

• Dan Rather: Hurricane Carla, Khe San, ‘68 Dem convention and riots where he was beat up by Chicago police.
• Bob Schieffer– Kennedy assassination
• Seymore Hersch– Broke the Mai Lai massacre story
• Bob Woodward– Broke Watergate story
• Eric Sevaried– Fall of Paris to the Germans

• Britt Hume– Bill Clinton’s runway haircut
