LOL I think this is the first internet comment section I’ve ever been to where I’ve actually met half the people talking =p

The Roots project makes me excited. We can really make progress something more than an idea, but actual reality. Let’s do it!

Question 1: Is there a roots group in Denver? I don’t know how to find out.

Question 2: anybody here from NY? I’m wondering if there is any relationship between the local NY roots members and Bobby Kennedy. I mentioned this on dk, but I’ll say it again here. Iheard him last week on Air America very recently. I’m not sure which show or when, but I heard him say (after being asked by the host), “Will you run for the Senate?” He said yes! I know I heard him say yes.

I listen to his Air America show whenever I can. Hey guys, this is the man who has the potential to be a very strong leader. Also, I heard him talking yesterday on his radio show (Ring of Fire). If you get the chance, listen to a replay. I’m hoping to listen again and tape it because I can’t paraphrase what he said, but I was sitting here talking to my computer screen listening, crying and working on a project.

This is a man with character and integrity. I don’t mean to sound stupid, but I didn’t really know anything about him until I started listening to his show.

I think it’s VERY WISE for the NY group to start talking to him for ideas and leadership. I’d nominate and vote for him tomorrow for anything! He has it all.

I’d like to know what his plan is? Would he only run if Hill doesn’t win the presidency? I feel confident in saying that she won’t be the prez because she won’t be the candidate. So does that leave him out? NY members, please check this out. I know right now he and Pap are doing the voting machine lawsuits. It may be a bad time, but a quick contact would be good.

Thanks to anyone who has a few minutes to contact him.

As others, I now have hope where there wasn’t any before! I worked tirelessly in ‘04, only to be literally crushed with despair. Mr. Rover did NOT forsee the power of the blogs, and therein lies our ace of spades. We MUST work tirelessly to thwart the Rethugs…because they will NEVER play fair.

Gad, I thought I was the only person who still stands by Meta Givens Cookbooks. Yea — they are from the 1950’s — they were standards for the advanced Home Economics High School classes then — and also used in many colleges. Way Way out of print, but I suspect they are findable at estate sales. And while I have many much more exotic cookbooks, there is nothing better than Givens if you need instructions on how, exactly, to do something. I have two copies of the two volume set — mine and the one I inherited from my mother — both sets have badly dislocated bindings.

Another thing to look for at estate sales is World War II cookbooks. The value here is the long list of substitutes provided for many recipes. Don’t treat such as a recipe book — use it as a reference.

I’m really late to the party tonight and I missed all the action, but thanks for the shoutout in the article Pach! I find everybody associated with the Roots Project inspiring and the commenters here at FDL and in the RP groups make it easy to find motivation to work on these things.

I am attempting to connect with the DFA folks here in Indianapolis as my primary means of doing outreach. They have a group that meets once a month and so far the last two monthly meetings were happening on nights I had something going on and I couldn’t meet with them. I did meet a few of them on July 4th who volunteered for our event downtown and they were very excited about the Roots Project so this could be a path for connecting with some local netroots folks others might consider for their local Roots Project.

Hi all !

In reference to Pach at 85 - Old Gardener didn’t quite know what to do about pimping her blog, because we currently have a just-barely operational website http://www.voisinforcongress.com/, with just a statement from Carol and the donate button active. There are people working furiously on filling in all the info that ought to be there, and hopefully in a week the various boxes will do things. It still needs other structural improvements and a generally expansion of scope, but it is much better than the non-functional site we had last week – we’re in the running for most improved.

I had just come back from Ykos, ready to do something, when my wife saw Carol Voisin at the Coop and told her that I had some ideas. Carol found me at the checkout counter and now I’m the netroots guy for her campaign in OR-2.

Carol is an authentic person - really not a politician, and has a completely volunteer, unpaid, staff. She doesn’t know much about the netroots, because she’s a College Professor at a state University here in Oregon, and they work them really hard. We gave her CtG and have been doing a quick course in “the blogs”.

Like us, she had just had enough with how the country is going down the drain. She didn’t raise $100k by June 30 so she doesn’t get anything from the national dems. When I showed up the campaign couldn’t afford buttons. We’ve lost OR-2 by 40% forever. The good news is that she is very open to trying something new, and OG an I have been working on a people-powered campaign – get people involved and see what they can do. Old Gardener herself is now our GOTW coordinator (Get Out the Word), which means whatever we want it to.

So this is a great opportunity to see what we all can do. I wouldn’t have sprung it on us until we got our stuff cleaned up better, got a real website with blog…., but Old Gardener called and asked, and she’s very hard to turn down. I just met her for the first time today, and to echo what Pach said earlier, she truly is a national treasure.

We’ll keep you all updated on our progress…
