I think Libby knew he would have to take a fall early on. Working with a group of people and trouble is coming, everybody knows who will be the designated one. 1. Libby’s note to Miller, when she was in jail, about the aspens sounded like hysterical desperation. 2. Then his facial expression, and going around on crutches. Like the mob had paid him a visit. 3. Then the W.H. saying nobody was to talk to him because of the ongoing investigation. Right. He was shunned and offered up. Probably knew it way ahead of time, before he broke his foot or whatever. June 16 , the Jon Conyers hearing on Downing Street Memo. Rumsfield and Cheney upset ’cause their addresses are published. That’s what has been happening to liberals when the poll numbers were up. RFK Jr’s lawsuit coming out this week, I think, against election machine companies. I haven’t been optomistic in some time, but I am now. Feels good.

Be hard to pardon before trial since 99% of the PR strategy is to say… “can’t comment on an on-going investigation”.

How is it going to look if they comment on it and lie, then not comment for 2 years, then invoke the power of the Executive to pardon? I guess if they win in 2006 and get another dose of false bravado they will (the last of which ended about 14 hours after is started with Bush bully insulting a blind man.

Focus on timeline.

Bush talked w/ prosecutors, sez Waas, 24 June 04 — that’s the date of his story.

SINCE THEN, two big hauls of new evidence have come into the investigation.

1) Rove was fingered as Cooper’s primary source on Mrs. “CIA” Wilson, aka Niger travel agent for her spouse. Is there something messy in Bush’s story — cuz he didn’t anticipate ROVE being exposed?

2) Fitz compelled (how is not public) WH to disgorge 250 pgs. of Plamegate emails linked to OVP and people in Bush’s orbit, including the strangely fled Andy Card. Somebody’s sources described the docs as “devastating.”

Is there something “devastatingly messy” in these docs that departs from Bush’s story?

It can’t be good for Bush that his story got locked down in June ‘04, and then was followed by his ace advisor getting fingered in fall ‘05 as a primary Plame leaker — followed by a trove of WH communications involving Plamegate that are called “devastating” and that should have been delivered to prosecutor TWO YRS EARLIER.

I’m tellin you, Rove is an unindicted co-conspirator in this whole mess. It’s the best explanation.

“But Bush told investigators that he was unaware that Cheney had directed I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby, the vice president’s chief of staff, to covertly leak the classified information to the media instead of releasing it to the public after undergoing the formal governmental declassification processes.”

Ignorance is no excuse.

Christy,

RE: 97

May I get a t-shirt with the following printed on it? I really, really need one.

“Anyone who thinks that it is Fitz’s job to save us all from the Bush Administration has not paid attention. This case has always been about prosecuting violations of law %u2014 but it is also a very effective vehicle for showing the public just who is running the country, the malignant cabal of ass-covering cronyism in all its fetid glory.

It is up to every one of us to take this ball and run with it.”

The commentary on this site is the best on the Web.

Thank you,

You gonna bet the farm — and your family — on these clowns?

Libby has nothing to lose and he knows it. Even if convicted, there will be a pardon and he will return from prison to a lucrative career as a lobbyist or on the board of Halliburton.

Sorry to be the Downer Debbie, skunk at the party.

Oh well. Happy 4th anyway, America.

“The first one to use public documents and public utterences almost exlusively to expose governmental lyin’ and corporate political actions was the man who wrote the book on investigative reportin’, Mr. I. F. Stone. Everyone here at FDL should read up on this most patriotic of patriots and to those who are still stumped by the false conflict between factual reporting and point of view journalism, here is the best example that factual journalism and point of view are not only compatible but, in most cases, necessary%u2026.you can’t have one without the other.”

YES! I.F.Stone’s Weekly was the gold standard during Vietnam years, from the beginning. I still remember the story where he pointed out the government’s evidence for North Vietnam aggression was based on one truck spotted turning south.

I.F.Stone held the administration’s public statements up to the light, like a poll watcher examining a hanging chad, and the truth shone through for anyone who wanted to see.
