In CT there is a very definite sense of Yankee rectitude and high-mindedness, which is going to be grossly offended by Joe’s slimey behavior. I’ll bet he loses that AFL-CIO endorsement, and will not be endorsed by newspapers he might have had before.

Ripley at 88, “NPR news did a brief piece on the Lamont/Lieberman race this evening…”

I just caught the tail end of it - I assume it was the same piece - enough to hear them end it by stating matter of factly that His Joeliness is expected to be able to win handily in a three-way race in November, or some similar airy phrasing. It angers me the way NPR is often “out front” with the right wing’s “received wisdom” talking points.

We are so screwed that we can’t even take it for granted anymore that politicians will follow (respect!, get it, they’re talking about respect) what, in revolutionary jargon, is called the ‘will of the people’ as expressed by their vote: see Lieberman, Schumer and I don’t know who else. What is left of this U.S.A. and its ‘exceptionalism’? Now we’ll get sticky, tacky self-serving statements by Democratic politicians stating they will confrom to the will of the people as if they’d undergone a deep mystical converion to an idea no one had ever heard about before. How deeply reassuring the Lieberman-Schumer deal is to the people = rabble = sheeple.

Once upon a time there…was a Republic. Funny, that, no Democratic victory will be able to trun things around, despite a wide notion that it will be possible. There is not going back to …the Republic. Sorry to break the news.

As far as I knew, I was just cranky, desperate, and all alone in saying “only individual candidate support” to the umbrella groups when they come calling; thanks Katymine and Veritas78 for an important confirmation and encouragement. FDL community is a comfort each and every day. And, oh, yes, Jane is very pretty, and sitting pretty there in CT.

siun 94 — I got that phone poll on Saturday, and when I engaged the caller in conversation (as I always try to do with pollsters), it became apparent that the polling was an informal deal being done by Dem. candidate for Governor Dan Malloy. In fact, when I admitted that I hadn’t really thought about the Dem candidate for governor because I was too involved with Lamont’s campaign (and also because the Dem. candidate for Governor doesn’t have any realistic chance of winning), the woman even told me that Malloy’s New Haven campaign office was right down the hall from Lamont’s.

Maybe both Lieberman and Malloy were polling the same two questions at the same time, but I doubt it.

By the way, Malloy Girl told me that everyone was saying they were voting for Lamont!

At last count, with 76 votes tallied, the vote was still 100 percent on your poll at DailyKos for the proposition that candidates for the Democratic U.S. Senate seat in Connecticut should pledge to support the winner of the primary (that was what the poll was about, wasn’t it?)

I left a lengthy comment to your diary. Here is an excerpt:

“Senatorial courtesy, the good-old-boy club, the Incumbent Preservation Society, whatever you want to call it, Reid would be making a major mistake to side with Democrats of dubious party loyalty such as Charles Schumer (D-NY)who choose to interfere in the Connecticut Democratic Party’s nomination process and refuse to commit to supporting the party’s nominee after the primary. If that is Reid’s idea of leadership, then the slogan should be ‘Get the Hell Out, Harry.’”

I ran into him last month at a Lamont fundraiser in Manhattan, where he appeared to be the only media in attendance. I’m not surprised.
