Last week the CHICAGO TRIBUNE laid out in great detail how Dennis Hastert was able to use his elected position to gobble up a cool $1,000,000 on some land speculation, the price of which he was able to manipulate. Hastert, who has been protecting arch Republicrook Jerry Lewis, Chairman of the Republican Criminal Operation known as the House Appropriations Committee, was able to surrepticiously earmark a nice fat $200 million bit of federal tax dollar pork to increase the value of land that Hastert sat on for just over 2 years.
Within a few days the WASHINGTON POST reported that the secretive deal actually netted Hastert a $2 million profit. But something else caught my attention. A few weeks ago I stumbled upon a little-heard-from California congressloon, Gary Miller, by far the furthest right of all the nutcases who make up the California GOP congressional caucus, when I noticed people in his district were buzzing about large sums of money he was raking in by manipulative real estate speculation. And ditto for close Randy "Duke" Cunningham associate, Ken Calvert.
Using earmarks, Hastert, according to the WAPO, "made a $2 million profit last year on the sale of land 5 1/2 miles from a highway project that he helped to finance with targeted federal funds. [IL Roots Project member Tony Tyner actually measured the distance and it is 1.7 miles, not 5.5.] A Republican House member from California, meanwhile, received nearly double what he paid for a four-acre parcel near an Air Force base after securing $8 million for a planned freeway interchange 16 miles away. And another California GOP congressman obtained funding in last year’s highway bill for street improvements near a planned residential and commercial development that he co-owns." All 3 of these crooked dealers are close with Jerry Lewis and his Republican earmark queen, Letitia White (both currently subjects of an intense FBI investigation).
"For more than a year, the congressional corruption scandal triggered by former lobbyist Jack Abramoff has focused attention on earmarks secured by lawmakers on lobbyists’ and government contractors’ behalf. Now watchdog groups are combing through lawmakers’ land holdings and legislative activities, searching for earmarks that may have boosted the value of those investments.
‘The sound bites from politicians have always been that they’re doing what’s best for their districts, but we’re starting to see a pattern that looks like they might be doing what’s best for their pocketbooks,’ said Keith Ashdown, vice president of the group Taxpayers for Common Sense. The allegation that Hastert used a home-district ‘earmark’ for his personal enrichment is now at the center of a tussle between the most powerful man in Congress and a new watchdog organization that uncovered the land deal this month."
Hastert, of course, loudly denies any and all wrongdoing– he is a Republican politician and "deny, deny, deny" is what they teach them in their version of ethics school– and he is demanding retractions and apologies and everything else that Cunningham said and did (before he broke down and weeped and begged for mercy and wore a wire to help the Feds rat out his crooked associates).
Hastert, of course, has a long history of shady dealings and making vast sums of money through bribes and kickbacks. VANITY FAIR exposed him last year after he took a $500,000 bribe from Turkish agents to prevent the adoption of bipartisan legislation recognizing the Armenian holocaust. With Tom DeLay forced to resign in disgrace, and getting his affairs in order before his inevitable prison sentence (allegedly), Hastert has become the titular head of the Republican Culture of Corruption. And what everyone in DC and back home in Illinois’ 14th CD is wondering is, can he be swept out of office by the son of a preacher man?
The high school ex-wrestling coach-turned-multimillionaire (feeding, greedily, at the public trough for over 20 years), represents a north-central district due west of Chicago stretching nearly to Iowa. (Actually, Hastert represents multi-national corporations and the lobbyists who whore for them but his power derives from his political base in IL-14.) Electorally, Hastert has run far ahead of the GOP ticket, although his vote percentage slipped significantly in the last two cycles (from 74% to 69%) In 2004 Hastert spent $5 million on his campaign while his unknown opponent spent $18,028. Caught up in a more public corruption scandal than in the past– and facing a far more formidable opponent– Hastert is in for the battle of his political life this November.
It is rare– very rare– for constituents to defeat someone whose national power has brought the district so much pork and until 1994, when Republicans started a whispering campaign falsely accusing Speaker Tom Foley of being gay, no Speaker had been defeated for re-election since the Civil War!
If John Laesch doesn’t succeed in dislodging Hastert it won’t be through lack of the personal qualities that define worthy leadership. And it won’t be through lack of motivation. John’s younger brother, Sgt. Pete Laesch, currently stationed in Iraq, asked John to run against the gargantuan rubber stamp who represents their district in Congress.
John is 32 years old and grew up in West Africa where his missionary parents were stationed. They moved to a farm in Newark, Illinois when John was 12. He enlisted in the Navy when he was 21 and served as an intelligence analyst in Bahrain, monitoring terrorist activity and analyzing foreign political and military structures, winning numerous citations and meritoriously rising 5 ranks within 3 years.
After leaving the military he earned a degree in History from Illinois State University. He volunteered for Dennis Kucinich’s campaign and in 2004 worked as campaign manager for progressive Democrat Dr. David Gill. (I was impressed yesterday to see Laesch make an impressive pitch for Gill on Daily Kos, at a time when non-DCCC candidates are scrambling, some desperately, for attention, endorsements and campaign cash. Read his Kos dairy; it shows what kind of a man he is.)
John has embraced the netroots enthusiastically and has run an open, grassroots campaign. I like it when candidates start off reporting to interested citizens rather than to party bosses Inside-the-Beltway. Laesch’s outspoken criticism of Bush’s war and his public embrace of progressive values-driven solutions to controversial issues hasn’t made him a darling on D.C. Democratic Party bosses. But with yard signs sprouting up all over DeKalb, Kendall, Lee, DuPage, Henry, and Whiteside Counties, John’s independent approach might well be exactly the right prescription for victory in a district where Democrats are heavily outnumbered by Republicans.
But even in a Republican-leaning district, like the 14th, Laesch’s commonsense approach to the crucial issues of the day are far more in sync with voters’ concerns than Hastert’s, whose voting record defines rubber stamp support for Bush’s catastrophic agenda. On health care, local development (and resultant skyrocketing property taxes), education, a realistic national energy, etc, Hastert has become more and more completely out of touch with Main Street as he has utterly embraced Wall Street. Laesch’s positions grow out of his Main Street values and out of his sturdy, all-American character.
In his dignified, almost self-effacingly modest manner John explains to FDL why he’s running: "Like the other 50 fighting Dems, I am just a guy that can’t stand the direction our country is being led. I wanted to do something about it… and that road started in 2002 with the signing of the ‘Blank check for Iraq.’ My younger brother, Sgt. Pete Laesch, is serving in Iraq and asked me to defeat Denny back in 2003. When he received his orders for Iraq (2005), I stepped up to run."
John already won his primary and now Democrats are united behind his race to replace an out-of-touch, entrenched, corrupt Speaker of the House with a fresh, energetic young man with integrity, strength and vision. John needs help to get out his message. I can’t imagine a candidate as forthright and independent as John is going to get sufficient help from Rahm Emanuel’s DCCC. It’s up to us.
You see that "It’s up to us" link? That leads to the ACT BLUE Page where you can contribute to a renewed America. And since this is Independence Day weekend, the first 20 people who contribute to John’s campaign this weekend get to choose between two All-American music cds, LOW DOWN MIDNITE BOOGIE by John Lee Hooker or OUT OF NOWHERE by Miles Davis and Charlie Parker. If you want John Lee Hooker add .01 to your donation and if you want Miles Davis and Charlie Parker add .02. And if one gets given away before you donate, you get the other. But I know people don’t donate to get the CDs – everyone’s been donating to help heal our great country.

Nice and informative post. Good job !! Thank-you
John Laesch worked the YKos crowd like a professional politican, but he’s as straightforward and honest as the day is long. He looks you in the eye when he talks with you, and his sincerity shines through every word.
I gave John a donation through your ActBlue page yesterday, Howie, part of a pre-quarter-close split of $150 to candidates you’ve featured. I’ll go right now and give another $25, though, because this guy Laesch is the real deal.
Hastert has been Tom Delay’s BOSS in the House throughout the entire Culture of Corruption. No House member, R or D, will ever speak against the Speaker, so it is up to us. If there was ever a wrestler deserving of a fall, it’s Denny!
Go John!

Let’s go Rootz! Take back the country from the whores now running the place.
I agree with Teddy, Laesch was in many of our sessions, sitting with us for lunch and asking what I thought about specific issues.
Great sense of humor…
Heads-up: Howie, the Vanity Fair “$500,000 bribe” link returns a “Not Found” message.
How’s the campaign coming in the western parts of the District?
I’m sure people in the east are very upset about the Porkway and Denny’s big profit, but I don’t see that playing big in the areas closer to Iowa.
What’s your message out there?
Son of Liberty, “the whores now running the place” is an apt description indeed. Hastert is like the Madam and his worst gals have been Dirty Dick Pombo (see photo here), Jerry Lewis, Bob Ney, Duncan Hunter, Roy Blunt, John Boehner and John Doolittle). If John Laesch takes out Hastert, America changes immediately and profoundly.
Here’s a working link to the Vanity Fair article:

Jerry 101, I think John will be here in 10 minutes, let’s save that question for him
ok, hopefully he can address it. i have to meet someone for lunch now. Thanks.
Howie, I’m not contributing for the CDs, but thank you for Eric Claption (last week), just the same.
I have to go the office now, he typed somberly. Good luck Howie.

P.S. I also kicked in a little for Donna Edwards and and Al Weed. I like this from Al Weed:
In his acceptance speech, Weed said he wanted voters to understand that “Virgil,” the populist politician who rose to prominence as a Democrat before eventually changing parties, is different from the “Mr. Goode” who votes along a Republican party line.
“We know the Virgil who comes to our county fairs, but do we know the Mr. Goode who votes against clean water for our streams and lakes?” Weed said. “We know the Virgil who shakes our hands on the street corners, but do we know the Mr. Goode who votes to give the president a blank check to fight a misbegotten war in Iraq? … People think they know Virgil, but it is time for us Democrats to introduce voters to the real Mr. Goode.”
Howie,
Let me begin by thanking yourself and the netroots as a whole. Your support helped earn this campaign advancement into Round 3 of Mark Warner’s Mapchangers Contest. I am going to need all of your support to win that competition and a fundraiser with Mark Warner.
I believe that our nation is at a crossroads where we must choose a new direction for America. This is our Vietnam. This is our looming Great Depression. This is our moment in history to stand up and demand a change of course.
I want to thank all of you for joining me as we march towards a Democratic Majority in 2006. Thank you for taking up this important responsibility – America needs you!
If anyone has any questions, you may post them here or write me at info@john06.com. I try to respond to each one personally, but I often get bogged down after a national interview or blog posting like this.
Take care – keep fighting!
I love this country – it is our country – she is worth fighting for!
Respectfully,
John Laesch
TeddySanFran (#11)- Thanks for the link correction! I fixed it at Down With Tyranny. Christy, can you put in the link Teddy found instead of that dead pdf link that’s up now?
WELCOME to firedoglake, John. We’re all really excited to have you join us today. Can you address Jerry’s question at #9?
Hi Howie
John Laesch sounds like a great candidate. I’m wondering if you would consider doing a Blue America post on Nancy Skinner. Here is her website- http://www.nancyskinner.campai…../index.asp
I have a question for John, as well (since I still haven’t gone to work, lol).
Have you picked a name for the boat yet?
It seems like national news coverage of this level of corruption by the Speaker of the House should be at pounding-the-table levels every day, but instead is quite muted, and practically non-existent on national TV. How much attention is the Hastert story and John’s campaign getting at the local level, print and TV?
Go Get ‘Em John!
Even if this races isn’t “the” winner (and I have good feelings for an upset!!) John is the kind of candidate the party needs to hang on to and nuture – especially as fast as the HOuse repeats. I feel that way about a lot of the candidate Howie and Jane have highlighted and I really hope that there can be some sustained post-2006 efforts to keep some of these great candidates in the pipeline.
I hope you can absolutely blanket the area with yard signs. In So IN and W Ky, where I hang out, yard signs have a way of seeping into people’s consciousness. In addition to the pork, Hastert’s leap to suddenly have a few words to say about the Constitution once it looked as if CONGRESSMEN’s offices rang as something less than altruistic.
Prayers for John and his brother Pete too. Making the right kind of difference.
Thanks Howie – hearing about great candidates like John is revitalizing.
This may or may not have been posted – been offline & still catching up with previous threads – and this looks important.
Raw Story has a Bloomsberg story link claiming the NSA requested ATT set up domestic spying site SEVEN months before 9/11.
I lived for two years in Dixon, IL, (claim to fame: Boyhood home of Ronald Reagan. Retch!) right in the heart of this district, about ten years ago. I now live in Ohio, in Boehner’s district, and teach in Jean Schmidt’s–the rotten luck I have! Unlike here, where people are just plain wingnuts, the conservative folks in Hastert’s district are truly conservatives, and slow to change. I taught at a community college there, as I do here, and the difference in attitude towards the liberal hippie English professor couldn’t have been more pronounced. Students there would say two things: “I disagree, but I respect your opinion,” and “I never thought of it that way.” In essence they were generally more open-minded.
There was also a substantial Latin population out in the Dixon/Sterling/Rock Falls corridor, like maybe 30% or so. I imagine it’s grown since then. Anyway, I just took Howie up on this and gave ten bucks to Laesch–go kid!
Opp99- It’s almost as though the national mass media is afraid to tackle Hastert. Whenever anyone tries he sends a battery of lawyers demanding retractions and screaming nonsense about libel.
Hi Howie! Boy, John sounds like the perfect antidote to Madam Hastert. (And what are so many of Hastert’s Hos doing in our great state of Cali, anyway?)
Choosing between John Lee Hooker and Miles and Charlie is tough – if I donate twice, can I get one of each? ;) Seriously, I’m delighted to pitch in for another great candidate.
John, I’m so glad you’re running for this seat. I grew up in Illinois, not far from your district, and never liked Hastert.
And a big, west coast welcome to FDL!
Apologies for OT but while I was wandering by the sudoku at the CBS site I saw this:
Under the heading of if you release it twice, it sounds more definitive. A declassified version of a report on prisoner abuse by Vice Adm. Albert T. Church most of whose findings were made known over a year ago in March 2005 was released (or re-released). Unsurprisingly, it still found that “no uniformed or civilian leaders directed or encouraged the prisoner abuses committed in Iraq, Afghanistan and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.” So we can all put that one to rest. Move along. Nothing to see here. Parenthetically, it would be nice to know if Church had authority to investigate up the chain of command. There have been many of these “investigations” but it is practice in so far as I understand it that the head of such an investigation can not look higher than those of his/her own rank. Still I am shocked, shocked I tell you that an active duty general officer would find that his bosses did nothing wrong or worse embarrassing. The integrity of all this brings a tear to my eye.
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories…..3572.shtml
While on my integrity kick, I thought I should mention that 3 aides have “left” Bob Ney’s staff. I thought there might be some connection between them and the likelihood of a Ney indictment on corruption charges so I found it reassuring that “In a statement, Ney advised against reading into the significance of the staff departures.” As Ney went on to say, “there is inevitably turnover.” Whew! I’m glad that got explained. In this, he was backed up by National Republican Congressional Committee communications director Carl Forti “staff turnover in his congressional office is irrelevant to his campaign.” “Until something does happen, it’s status quo,” he concluded, which pretty much sums up the Republican universe where cause and effect doesn’t operate until it does.

Jerry 101,
Western part of the district – Sandwich is “semi-western.” Realize that small towns 50-miles from the parkway are going to explode. People as far west as Waterman Paw Paw are concerned about the expansion.
We campaigned in Sandwich, IL today at the Freedom Days Parade. The DeKalb County Democrats have a booth where I spoke briefly before coming here.
People who do not yet know who I am often ask, “who are you running against?” In Sandwich the answer, “Hastert,” drew lots of positive response.
The follow-up question was, “where do you stand on the Parkway?” I let them know that we also own land (3-5 miles) from the PPWAY and that we are not selling:)
Great day today and I am headed back to Sandwich Freedom Days after we get done here.
Going REALLY far West is even easier because it is primarily Democratic territory, but sparsely populated. Half of the voting population is in Kane County.
Respectfully,
John Laesch
Hey John! Bravo on the campaign so far!
And thank you for joining us at YearlyKos – while many better-funded candidates did not take that chance to actually meet the people face-to-face, you showed up! and you showed us what a real netroots candidate is like!
I was so impressed when I met you up in the media area (I was the media coord.) – and I know our YKOS media team is cheering you on!
off to make a donation – then back for the discussion …
Laesch = real deal? you bet!
The Boat is named the S.S. Accountability, but it almost doesn’t fit.
We were thinking of naming her “Changing Tides” or “S.S. Integrity.”
Both of these names were popular, but I did not put them in the “voting list.”
Respectfully,
John Laesch
I’m in.
Laesch is running a SERIOUS campaign against the Speaker of the House. This man has guts.
Let’s help him win! Hastert can be brought down by his own corruption.
John:
What message about Denny resonates with your potential constituents? Do people think he’s corrupt? Is the land deal enough for them to turn on him? Is it that he’s Tom Delay’s BOSS? Do folks understand that Denny is the Culture of Corruption’s enabler?
In other words, are you able to stir voters with an anti-Hastert message?
How does Bush poll in your district?
Best of luck to you, young man. You give us all hope!
==========
Had Enough?

I still think a lot of what is or is not covered can be tied to the NSA spying. Who knows what about whom.
Hey John, welcome to FDL, and thanks for coming by. It’s great to hear that you’re getting a positive response from people in the district. Other than the obvious themes of corruption and the Parkway, what issues do you find voters asking you about most frequently, or what issues are you trying to emphasize with them?
P.S. I like “Changing Tides” for its sense of hope and optimism.
Anne Holliday at 22 – that’s huge news, if true. Not surprising, but huge.
Siun,
You guys ROCK!
Thanks for showing up today.
jdl
Met John at YKos – and I gotta say him and all the other Fighting Dems are the key to kicking Rove’s ass, beating the Rubber Stamp Republicans, and putting the reins on Bush in 2007.
These candidates are smart, loyal, dedicated to democracy, patriotic and selfless.
Every single one of them.
Go John, let’s Clean the House!
Meanwhile thanks to all who are helping Webb win for Senate in Virginia. Drafted by the roots, the DSCC only jumped on the bandwagon when it was clear we would win the primary.
Our goal was to raise $100,000 online by June 30, and we raised over $160,000. Woohoo!!!
Webb knows how to fight, he called George Felix Allen a coward who spent the last war playing cowboy at a dude ranch while real Americans were fighting overseas.
Gang, I’m floored by the response we’re getting to John at the the ACT BLUE Page! This is the fasted we’ve ever blown through $1,000. At this rate John’s campaign is going to be BLUE AMERICA’S #1 recipient!
John, if you don’t mind me asking, where in West Africa were your parents missionaries?
Somewhat OT, I have in the past minute just about fallen out of my chair upon discovering that a mainstream blogger has finally put forward a serious proposal for prosecuting Bushco officials for war crimes.
And it’s Andrew Sullivan.
BlueUU — You should be a special guest on Stephen Colbert’s “Know A District” series: what rotten luck you have in Congresscritters!
John — Your answer about the PParkway is GREAT! That’s exactly the kind of real-people response we hear Ned Lamont giving Nutmeggers. People everywhere are hungering for real answers.
Give em hell!
I’m in. Good luck, John!
Ditto what Teddy SF and katymine said.
I met John at YKos and was also impressed. The thing about Denny H. is that he looks so benign and unassuming, but we know down deep what a snake he is. How he gets away with not showing it has, I think, all to do with DeLay being the front man. But Denny is every bit as dangerous.
John, I really hope you are ready for whatever Denny shovels your way and you can shovel it right back at him. If you are moving up in the polls (haven’t seen any), then you know the fight will be on.
Go John!
Sent a few bucks your way. Hope it helps.
John,
Questions:
3 most important issues facing your district?
3 first issues you will work on when elected?
Thanks for the above post. There are certain rock ribbed Republicans I trust to give me an honest answer. This AM I asked one to ride the SS Accountability tomorrow with John. She likes him – she really likes him. But she said no. Her reason: John hasn’t gotten his name and reputation out there enough for everyone to make an informed choice. Have a question: How would you best do that in a suburban and exurban areas?
Hastert was picked by Delay to be Speaker because he would do what he was told. And then when Delay started having ethics problems, Hastert backed legislation to let Delay hold on to his position even if he was indicted. When this didn’t fly, he emasculated the Ethics Committee instead.
Issues:
We ask every voter (in parades, at booths, door-to-door), “what issue is most important to you?”
Clearly geography plays a roll in this game, but here are some informal poll results.
1) Overwhelmingly is Healthcare (I support a National Healthcare Program)
2) Lately gas prices are BIG! See this post from a few days ago.
3) Jobs and the economy are two big issues that probably lump together for an overall second/third place.
4) In Elgin, IL we hear lots of concerns about education. This summer we are adding a piece to our float called the “Four Pillars of the Democratic Party.” Here is a sketch, but it will look much better with actual pillars.
Illnois was my home for years and delighted to support Laesch and appreciate the opportunity. Lived next door to Rep. Phil Crane’s campaign manager in Arlington Hgts. My dining room served as grass roots campaign central for Impeach Nixon. On weekends when they were conclaving next door we draped our large oil cloth Impeachment banner from the second story – billboard style -in plain view of their prissy frequent garden parties. Ah those kinder, gentler times. mwahahahah!
egregious – great job on Webb’s campaign too! When I heard Webb’s response to Allen – I knew he was the right guy. It was in character and from the gut and not triangulated. Now every time I see Allen I think of the theme from the Odd Couple.
John – how are things like biofuels etc. getting attention in your district? For all the pork Hastert has directed around, the heartland is a great potential source of energy alternatives but I don’t see nearly as much going on as you would expect. I notice here that Lugar (R SenIN) has been using radio spots targeting alternatives, so he must think that is a good farm community issue.
What about immigration issues? I see this as not being a clean or clear area for Dem candidates. Also, here in So IN a HUGE issue is meth. You wouldn’t think it, but it is a big big issue – meth labs everywhere – big chunks of workforce and crime issues are meth related. It doesn’t seem like a rural area hot button, but people here want someone to do something about this issue and Congress has been pathetic. Several opportunities – no follow through. And Hastert has the power – what has he done with it?
John—great meeting you at YKos. TeddySF’s earlier comments are complete accurate. It’s great to see a candidate so honest and accessible. Your ActBlue page total just went up.
Howie, if you haven’t already, how about taking a look at Diane Benson’s campaign against Alaska’s Don Young?
RevDeb: Hi!
Here’s an example of how John handles the swiftboating that’s already coming his way. Head-on, apparently!
http://www.john06.com/media/20060616/1
Hello John, I’ve been swapping emails with Kristen about your web presence and tried my best to get some traffic over here from Kos for support. I live in the 16th district but the stench of Hastert floats this way too often. I can barely contain my excitement in anticipation of seeing you send that pork bloated windbag packing. I’m proud as hell to see you running and I think you and your staff have done a great job. I don’t really have any questions for you today as I’ve read your thoughts on most issues, but one thing I didn’t know is that you have a brother still in Iraq. I hope to hell he keeps his head down and his ass covered. Keep up the good work and go kick some ass!
I was born in Monrovia, Liberia, West Africa.
We returned to America in 1986 after an attempted military coup. We lived 3 houses away from the Vice President. I will never forget hiding behind a second-story piano and watching soldiers gun the place down with M-16’s.
Here is a pic of our home in the village.
On Thursday, Hastert became the longest-serving GOP Speaker ever.
Hard to run from a Rubber-Stamp Do-Nothing Congress you’ve been in charge of longer than any other GOP Speaker!
FDL is finally bigtime in Washington! The DCCC blog “The Stakeholder” provided a link to this posting with John & Howie … http://www.dccc.org/stakeholde…..04956.html
I think that I have to put pics in as links instead of
Is this correct?
jdl
Fine diary. My God, these guys have watched “Chinatown” one time too many. Hastert seems to have looked upon John Huston in that flick as a role model. Let’s change the ending on him!
Hi and hugs Teddy!
If I recall correctly we were talking with John together in the hall, beer and wine in hand. Yes, John assured us he was ready for whatever Denny tosses (as in cow pies) his way. Anyone have any idea of what John is polling so far?
John and *ilson, links are not appearing – not sure what the problem is.
Laesch home in Liberia
Trying this.

One thing about Dennis Hastert to remember. He may be my congressman – but he’s OUR Speaker.
That’s the reason why John Laesch should be everyone’s Congressional Candidate.
In my 45 years of helping elect people-minded, people-first candidates, John is the best guy I’ve ever met. He is on a par with Senator Paul Simon, and cut from the same cloth as Sen. Paul Wellstone.
I am blogging today under my real name. I am that proud to be working with and for John.
yes, John, the link works. Thanks for all you are doing to hold that rat bastard accountable.
Mary,

Dick Pierce,
Great seeing you here today – excited about Dixon tomorrow. At least 20 people coming from DeKalb, Kendall and Kane Counties.
Let’s rock the house!

*ilson46201 (#56), I love how Jesse had a sense og humor about referring to it as taking place at “2 PM Beltway consultant time.”
John, I enjoyed meeting you at YEarlyKos. I think you have a political future ahead of you. Your campaign people are great, truly on top of things, and Bastart had better keep checking over his shoulder.
I live in Monrovia, too…California, not Liberia. What an amazing set of memories you must have.
Best of luck in your campaign. The time is nigh…
John – one of the things I really like about your approach is that you include concrete common sense ideas for policy – like your support of Universal Voter Registration or student loan forgiveness for teachers. These are solid proposals. We don’t see candidates or incumbents offer such specific, real world, ideas often enough – thanks!
To Dick – getting more visibility is so tricky but it sure looks to me like John is doing it right with his busy schedule of local events. And I’d play that up (putting on my consultanty hat) – “big guys like Hastert buy time and think they can buy votes, real deals show up and shake your hand and find out what you, the voter, is thinking”
katymine,
3 most important issues according to: constituents:
1) Healthcare
2) Economy
3) Iraq
3 most important issues to me:
1) Iraq
2) Economy
3) Environment/energy
3 first issues to takle in D.C.
1) Energy/gas prices (to define Democratic Leadership from the U.S. House)
2) Healthcare (people want it)
3) Economy/trade/immigration (they are all tied together)

Stepping out for 5 minutes. The crew working on the parade float has a question.
jdl
My English teacher just came over and whacked me upside th’ head.
“Drafted by the roots, the DSCC…” :o
Maybe someday we WILL be drafting them.
They will take orders from US.
Hi John,
Thanks so much for showing up today and talking to everyone. I’ve been thinking seriously about making my next car a biodiesel one, thanks for the links. I sincerely hope you and others with progressive energy policies get elected before the lights go out in this country.
…ah, yes, the grassroots! Where parade-float crew questions get fielded by the candidate. This is just super — I love Howie’s Saturdays.
Trying not to wear out my exclamation points, but this is really, really FUN.
Howie,
You keep on bringing such interesting guests.
John Laesch,
Howie gives the example of Foley’s defeat in ‘94 by a well-coordinated (if sleazy) GOP campaign, run out of their national offices. I DO hope the Dems find a way to realize how important your victory might prove to be. I’m afraid your forthright support of a national medical plan makes it hard for the DINOs to openly support you, even as you draw nearer to Hastert in th polls. But it is the right decision – and courageous.
Have any writers tried to “swiftboat” you yet?
Thanks for your service. I’m a vet, and played “Taps” at three memorial services yesterday – two WWI and one Vietnam vet – and my talks with the uniformed honor guards before and after the services showed a continuing erosion of support for “last throe Rummy’ as one USAF E-6 called the SecDef.
May I extend to one and all the opportunity to join John tomorrow in Dixon, IL. Dixon – Ronald Reagan’s hometown (he left here a Democratic, folks) – has one of the largest parades in the District. [We are unit #94 out of a hundred.] Meet us at 12:30 at 1023 N. Highland Ave. (the Hairport) – & home of a Dem. Precinct Captain.
More info at http://www.petuniafestival.org
We aim to really piss off Hastert by generating a lot of support for John.
It’s awesome you’ve been able to take as much time as you have today, John.
I’m so happy this community has the chance to get to know and support you.
And great to see you too, Jane!!! How are things going in Lamont Country?
Last weekend I was looking at the IL candidates and John leads an interesting slate with some esp impressive challengers. (Gill and Stover in particular)
I’m so glad Howie is leading these opportunities for us all to support netroots candidates.
And I was also thinking that after we win in 06, we should think about organizing our candidate support so that netroots can help netroots candidates from early in the process – how great it would be for a good new candidate to have, for example, a pack of state projects folks to walk with them in a local parade or help set up their www site – just tossing that out there for later thought.
Things are going great here in Lamont country. I’m excited for the 4th of July parade, there should be quite a float coming your way (I’ve been making arrangements to videotape it this morning).
John I love how you handle swiftboating (from Teddy’s link 52 above):
Both letters claim that I have never voted prior to the 2006 primary election.
Folks, a voting record is public information and should be obtainable by either political party or campaign. For some reason, the Republicans found it easier to make up a false voting record and use a pack of lies to attack my background.
Now, I’m no John Kerry – I’m John Laesch and I don’t care too much for dirty politics or people lying about my voting record.
The reason we are here today is to offer the truth and make it easier for the Republicans to find a voting record %u2013 I will give it to them %u2013 and you.
The letter written by Young Republican, Brandon Yaniz, who is close enough to Hastert to have attended his fourth swearing-in as Speaker, and published in the Daily Herald and Elgin Courier News, states that I did not vote in 1998, 2000, 2002 and 2004.
For the record, I voted absentee in 1996 and did not vote at all in 1998 while I was deployed overseas with the United States Military. I have no way of double-checking an absentee ballot, but we did ask the Kendall County Record to provide that information.
The records provided in the press conference show that I voted in 2000, 2001, 2004, 2005 and of course in 2006. Not only do I vote, but I voted Democratic %u2013 I am proud to be a Democrat!
Is there really no limit to what the GOP will do to smear veterans? I for one am getting a little tired of it.
Great link, Teddy.
John, yes, the second photo link worked – thanks. I traveled to Cote d’Ivoire in 1995 and met some missionaries in Abidjan, which had its own problems a few years later. I’m glad that you and your family made it out safely.
Mommybrain, I know some people in Monrovia. It’s not that big a town – I wonder if you know each other?
Siun 79 — I was also thinking that after we win in 06, we should think about organizing our candidate support so that netroots can help netroots candidates from early in the process.
So true. I was talking to Tim Tagaris yesterday and the problem is we get into these races so late — Paul Hackett’s Congressional race, Ciro Rodriguez — and by the time we show up it’s hard to recover the ground already lost. I hope Howie will be working hard to do the same thing he’s doing right now so we can get behind people early.
Howie is going to be taking over management of our ActBlue page, something I’m really excited about. He does an amazing job of finding solid progressive candidates and getting behind them. He’s a fantastic antidote to the anti-progressive strain infecting modern politics, no names I’m being nice right now.
Establishment Dems better remember when the gloves came off: Tom Daschle’s loss. Until then, there was an unspoken agreement that leaders weren’t targetted and weren’t supported by the other party’s Establishment.
Well, Tom Daschle’s defeat changed all that.
So, where’s my Congresswoman with her support of John Laesch? Not that Pelosi could help by walking in the Dixon parade tomorrow, but there are OTHER ways for the Democratic leadership to help defeat Hastert. Mentioning his name when talking about the Culture of Corruption would be a good start!
PS It’s really tough to write about Tom Daschle and John Laesch in the same comment without checking the spelling constantly!
Dick – nodding – and I’d find a way to say just that to people … something like “hey I’d rather be right here with you guys” to remind folks that it is a sign of a guy who will be “with them” when he’s elected.
wish my car were running … I’d hit the road to join you all at the parades!
Just contributed! Kick Denny’s butt John!
Sent Lamont a little love as well! Everyone send Ned five bucks!
I’m back for a bit.
Growing up in Africa and a farm makes one a pretty handy person at fixing things. This time it is a tire.
Don’t worry Dick – we will make Dixon tomorrow. The spare is old and needs to be replaced.
jdl
Jane – precisely! when I was around the first anti-lieberman campaign I got to see the early stages of the Repub campaign machine cranking up and what was impressive was the intensive support of local candidates – they got a chance to practice doing a tv interview, got help with speeches, issue framing, etc. We don’t do that on the Dem side – in fact, we seem to leave our new candidates to completely fend for themselves.
So I’d love to talk more about things we as netroots can do … I’d be in for things like “how to write a press release” for example and I bet we have a lot of talent out here we could toss into the mix.
Now we all know the DCCC blog– which is actually run by someone who is more “one of us” than a Beltway kind of person– plugged this chat but I’m wondering if John is getting much support and/or advice from the DCCC and from Emanuel who seems to take a particularly strong stand on Illinois races. John, have you had much contact with the DCCC?
Jane,
Passing along a message from Charles Goyette who had a morning show on the 1010 KXXT Air America show (he interviewed you). He is back on the air –
He said to say Hi and expect to hear from him in the future.
Daschle anagrams to Laesch-D.
Party support dwindles when Democrats need pork too. Funny thing that pork…
Laughing – a candidate who can also change a tire!
John – you’re doing us all proud! and your brother must be so happy with your campaign!
When’s the last time Denny Hastert changed a tire?
John – are you having a good response from any local papers? doing the editorial interviews, etc?
I’m wondering if they feel too beholden to Hastert or if there are any local editors feisty enough to call for change.
Siun,
Media: Well, actually we were on the frtont cover of the DeKalb Chronicle two days ago and the Beacon News (largest paper in the district) is doing a story on Blogging in tomorrow’s paper – reading this Matt?
We found our press secretary on DailyKos… she is wonderful and has really stepped it up to turn our media coverage around.
Respectfully,
John Laesch
since I’m learning the ins and outs of
http://www.opensecrets.org
for researching campaign contributions and PACs, I noticed that Hastert gave DeLay $5,000 for the 2006 cycle (and $20,000 to Jean Schmidt who is a real fave of us here at FDL – not!) From a quick read, I can’t see when the donation to DeLay was made but it would be interesting to see if it was in time to help with the legal expenses . I’ll dig a bit more later today and pass along anything that looks interesting.
egregious
Nice anagram!

Shock for all of you sit down .I am The Republican Head of Veterans For Progress IL. We have been working with John to Defeat Hastert. John has our support 110%. There is a Veterans Convoy heading John’s way in the next few weeks. Here some info you may not of heard. J Dennis Hastert while claim ing to support the veterans an troops has voted against them everytime he votes which is not a lot. You can see for your-self’s at vote smart.org.John is Honest hard working and deserves all the help people can give him.J.Dennis Hastert is just plain as can be a bought an paid for Republican by lobbyist. Heck he has even for a decade has gone on paid for by lobbyist $1000.00 day fishing trips
How active is the local party in your campaign, John? Are they registering new Democrats to vote for you this November? Is there any GOTV mechanism beyond your campaign for targetting likely supporters? Any sign of the 50-state strategy in IL-14?
Howie Klein,
DCCC – meeting with them next week. DNC, DCCC, Conyers…
Cheers,
jdl
That’s good to hear John! I hope the local press recognizes a good story when they see one – coz you sure are one!
John
Thanks for visiting firedoglake. I would like to know your position on (virtually) unlimited executive power. As you know, this is an insidious doctrine that has been pushed by Dick Cheney and David Addington since Bush took office. They received a rebuke from the Supreme Court the other day, in the Hamdan decision.
But that case only addressed the narrow issue of trial procedures for enemy combatants. The unified executive doctrine has infested a broad range of laws and policies in this administration. What would you do to limit it, and to increase Congressional oversight and the balance of power between the three branches of government?
John, three questions on the ongoing siege of Gaza:
1. Do you view the Israeli destruction of the only power plant in Gaza as “collective” punishment?
2. Do you support a UN Security Council Resolution condemning the current Israeli actions?
3. Do you have any suggestions as to how the impasse over the fair election by Palestinians of Hamas candidates as their government can be dealt with to the benefit of al parties concerned?
Dale! Good work! I love seeing independent thinking and support for candidates regardless of party who are the real deal!
The lack of real, on-the-ground support for our men and women who serve is such a disgrace – sure looks like John is one candidate who can help to bring that message home.
(I worked for a republican campaign back in the late 80s – it’s the quality of the candidate that counts!)
Heath care big on my radar, mine just went up (again) to $170.00/month. I am a single healthy, 36 y/o male. My insurance two years ago was under $90.00/month.
My email to the DCCC. Hope they read it before your meeting with them next week, John!
———————————
Hello DCCC:
I’ve just donated another $25 through Howie Klein’s “Down With Tyranny” ActBlue page to Fighting Democrat John Laesch, who’s running against the longest-serving GOP Speaker ever, Rubber-Stamp Republican Speaker Dennis Hastert of the Do-Nothing Congress.
Please support John Laesch in his bid to unseat Dennis Hastert. Remember, the gloves came off when Leader Daschle was defeated.
————————
neurophius,
Thank you for the question. I think we all agree that the president needs just a touch more than oversite. If this guy openly lied or mislead the country to take us into War in Iraq then a Democratic Congress is going to impeach him.
People who steal candy from a grocery store go to jail. BushCo. has hijacked the United States of America.
I will proudly be part of the Congressional oversight!
jdl
WOW! I already donated but after that (#107), I’m rushing for my credit card again.
Teddy at 12:26 p.m.
“ah, yes, the grassroots! Where parade-float crew questions get fielded by the candidate.”
That was my thought exactly. John sounds like a hands-on kind of guy. We need more like that in Congress.
Ed*ard Teller,
I will be honest, I have not stayed on top of the current seige of Gaza, but I do see a need for a two-state solution.
More importantly, we need to have a nuclear-free zone throughout the Middle East (OK, the world). Reducing our presence in the ME would help us win back some friends and deal with this in a diplomatic way.
jdl
Following Howie’s lead after those answers, I’ll be switching my contribution (which sadly is small) to monthly on ActBlue John – wow!
TeddySF,
I am proud to say that we are a growing party. We have State Rep. candidates in all but one district (5 of 6). We have only one State Senate seat open and numerous county board candidates running. My philosophy is 50-state. Every candidate brings something to the Democratic Party.
Party strength varies from place to place. Where they are weak, we step in and recruit Precinct Committeemen to get active.
jdl
Ed*ard Teller at 12:26
OT but I just want to respond to the information that you played taps at three veterans’ memorial services. My father served in the Navy in World War II. When his ashes were interred at a small country cemetary four years ago, a young man from the local high school came out and played taps. I really appreciated that, and I want to commend you for doing that service to other veterans.
John,
Thanks for the standard reply.
You say “More importantly, we need to have a nuclear-free zone throughout the Middle East.” Does that mean you support the dismantlement of Israel’s nuclear arsenbal, or are you giving them a pass.
Wow! Henry, what a foot!!
Excuse me, John, maybe I should stick to soccer…..this game’s going to go nuclear real soon. Brasil has been sloughing along.
Go get ‘em John. You sound like the real deal.
Jane, I drive Bio-D and I love it! There’s a plant right here in ol’ Chatham county.
Hey everyone,
I have to log off right now and head back to Sandwich Freedom Days.
I want to thank everyone for jumping in here for a lively conversation and all of your support.
Keep fighting!
jdl
John – have to go. Local carpenters are constructing a group from all the craft unions and I need to talk with them.
Dave Bally rocks!
Way to go John!
And keep us updated on how things are going – I’m sure excited to have a candidate like you running in my state!
Back to share a quick e-mail with you… may not mean anything to those who have not been following the Hastert Highway.
All Sandwiches have the right to be Free!
Free the Sandwiches!
Thanks, John, you’re an inspiration. I’ll be checking your campaign blog for more updates.
(PS Howie, John’s blog button needs activation on your ActBlue page….)
John:
Great answer to my question on executive power. This issue may not show up at the top of the list in voter surveys, but it is of incredible importance to our country. As we say at firedoglake, ATTAAAAAAAAAAACK!
Hey gang, thanks for coming and asking John such great questions and for being so generous with the donations. We’ve had several lurkers here frm other campaigns who have written to tell me how impressed they were.
Jane alluded earlier to the fact that DWT and FDL are combined ACT BLUE pages. Act Blue is working on some new technology for us that will be ready in a week or two. Meanwhile, I want to the first addition to come from you guys. Who should we add to the combined list– everyone gets a vote as long as you include a reason.
And remember, just being a Democrat fighting against a terrible Republican isn’t enough. Resources are scarce and we want to get behind candidates like John Laesch, people who we can trust to help make America a better place.
Ditto #122
ATTAAAAAAAAAACK!
John veterans are being force to pay for cancer drugs like Casolex story will be in the Chicago Tribune Sunday in the Metro. These drugs can cost just for 30 pills up to $440 for a two weeks supply. Now J Dennis Hastert has supported the Veterans Budget cuts everytime. This years budget alone will cut about 2.1 million veterans. Last year alone 600,000 veterans were put on waiting list or denied. Hastert knows this one too they are sending troops with mental problems back to Iraq on meds. Most have PTSD and the meds they are sending them back on slows them down enought to get them killed or wounded. What do you think about that?
Any other progressive candidates out there: that’s how it’s done!
Many thanks to John. Let’s hope the folks in Dc begin to realize that the way tp pick candidates is to watch where the buzz comes locally first.
And to all you Roots Project people out there, this connection with Howie and FDL came through the Roots group in IL. Please scout your area for worthy progressive candidates!
Howie – thanks for doing this! and for involving the IL group in the process – that’s how you find the *real* netroots!
Dale – I’ll look for the Tribune article and put links for it up here – important story!
John %u2013
Some netroots people out in Oregon have joined Carol Voisin’s campaign in OR-2 against Greg Walden, a longshot race in a district the dems have lost by 40% forever. She’s a great candidate but wasn’t very netroots-aware, but is very open and is learning and getting more enthusiastic every day%u2026 So I just wanted to thank you for your excellent example of how its done, and how a well-run progressive, grassroots campaign can activate the democratic base in ways that just aren’t accessible to the ‘pros’. There are lots of us out here who are building on the work you’re doing. Best of luck defeating Dennis Hastert!
Tom
I will post the link as soon as I find it I have Sunday paper right here. This Vet had to wait four week for life saving Meds. Only way he got them was to write a letter to the paper. When the VA found out The Trib was doing the story all of a sudden here comes his Meds. This is a huge story and needs to be told.
Dale Peters — I am sitting down. That’s great. Please keep us posted.
new thread — http://www.firedoglake.com/200…..likes-them
Charlie Brown’s my nominee:
1. Fighting Dem
2. YKos attendee
3. Sierra Club member for 22 years
4. Believes he can kick that football every time (oh, wait….)
You know Charlie Brown, Howie! — please put him on the ActBlue site so we can all help him defeat John Doolittle.
Sorry got to Run anyone who wants to find out about the Troops going back to Iraq on meds go to va watchdog.org use his site engine put in troops with mental problems being sent back to Iraq you will see five stories there with a statement from DOD saying we have to see how these troops react on meds. Tell me thats not experimenting on troops BYE and anyone who can help John please do
Dale – thank you for your work and your service.
A while back I was involved with BooksforSoldiers.com and corresponded with a number of troops in Iraq – the lack of real support they received was a shocker and I certainly wish more candidates (of either party) would highlight and run on this. We were shipping such basics as toilet paper over to our contacts – and tons of food since the Halliburton cafeterias would close early but the soldiers were working 14 hour days and ended up having to eat out of vending machines!
Whatever our positions on the war itself, this treatment is a disgrace – and I think a contributing factor to the problems we see now. I alwyays thought a lot about how sane and responsible I would be after 6 months of seven day a week, 14-16 – 18 hour work days, with inadequate food … not a recipe for good behavior.
Folks, I’d like to recommend Jim Craig in NH. At the least he’s a good man (Friend of Dad) I won’t donate money
(Long family history of disasterous results when we donate to a campaign, Hugh Galen (Governor)Mayor Stanton, Paul Simon (we’re really sorry about that one) and a few others. At best, their campaigns fold a week after we donate, and at worst, well, again we’re sorry about Paul Simon)
(We tried it, with great trepidation, on a republican candidate…they won, damnit)
WOW… how great to come back to FDL and find my FAVORITE Congressional CANDIDATE sitting on the front page in his cool blue Jeep!
Although I live in CO, I’m working for John Laesch for IL-14. I first heard John on the Air America series, Fighting Dems, with Sam and Markos. I was impressed with his interesting background and his character. Character and brains are big issues with me! If you don’t have a brain, then how can you manage the transition from life in anytown-USA to the beltway and the challenges that face this country? John has been successful in everything he done. His character is rock solid. So I’m helping the campaign as a “remote volunteer” and doing anything I can do to get John elected!
Take a good look at John at http://www.john06.com/. I urge you to send the $, but do more if you can. I’ll get back to you later today with an ASK for participation in an anticipated DC event. If you happen to be in IL, please check for local events at http://www.john06.com/district.
A dollar for John is a step toward the removal of Speaker Hastert either before the DOJ/FBI indicts him or before his anticipated retirement. Help me push him out before he’s ready to go!
I miss the 02 Brasil football ballet …sigh .. it was so wondrous to watch!
Victoria – I’ll be looking forward to your update!
Dale Peters- thanks for logging on and sharing your thoughts. I’ve been a Republican too – right now, both parties are desperately in need of credible, thoughtful people with guts and integrity who are going to breathe life back into this country for the middle and lower econommic levels – support service providers (soldiers, nurses, police, firemen, etc) of all sorts, dig in and address healthcare and infrastructure and do a lot of the things that almost all Americans can agree on – but neither party is getting done.
Once the big items are being tackled by good people, we can worry more about parties and partisanship. Until we have solid people willing to stand up and do what needs to be done, I think we are all secret Independents. *g*
Glad you’ve got John’s back.
Our goal was to raise $100,000 online by June 30, and we raised over $160,000. Woohoo!!!
Webb knows how to fight, he called George Felix Allen a coward who spent the last war playing cowboy at a dude ranch while real Americans were fighting overseas.
egregious: tell us how you did that? Allen is a real fool, huh? I’m very interested in knowing your strategy and how you implemented it! Please share. I promise John won’t do anything to make the Senator seem sane!
Christy/Jane
You have my e-mail address, and should John want to know where some of Hastert’s good buddy, Dallas Ingemunson’s skeleton’s are buried, have him contact me.
I didn’t get the nickname Elliot Ness for nothing.
BlueUU said: I lived for two years in Dixon, IL, (claim to fame: Boyhood home of Ronald Reagan. Retch!) right in the heart of this district, about ten years ago. I now live in Ohio, in Boehner’s district, and teach in Jean Schmidt’s%u2013the rotten luck I have!
That’s some heavy KARMA – just joking!
Hey Blue UU: Do you have any friends or relatives still there? Perhaps, like I’m doing with my cousin, you could do an e-mail or phone call and do an *E-Candidate Referral* for John! It’s a lot to ask, but it’s something you could do to help us win this one!
My cousin lives somewhere in IL. I’ve called her but she’s out of town. I hope she’s in that district or has friends there. I want her to get involved. In fact, I’ll kick her butt if she doesn’t do some work for John.
Thank you from all of us.
Christy/Jane – you can send Elliot’s e-mail to me and I’ll pass his undercover work on to John and his campaign manager Jen.
Thanks Elliot Ness for your help. John wants to run an issue-based campaign, but he’s a realist too. He has some very good *stuff* already, but it’s in a safe deposit box in Chicago’s biggest bank. John will unlock the box if necessary. Please send it on brother.
PS – I’m joking about the safe deposit box, but the stuff he has will be used if necessary. Remember that John Laesch is a FIGHTING DEM with a background in intelligence.
Teddy SanFran:
I saw your Had Enough campaign slogan! Are you doing it big time?
Had Enough is a perfect campaign for FDL members. I posted on DK yesterday or the day before that we should introduce it here. Perhaps you guys are already campaigning. Gee, Jane could really have fun with this as she travels around.
I just got my money from the ATM yesterday. I placed it in my mediation space so it would get all jazzed up with good energy and deliver the message to the appropriate people who are waiting for something fun to remind them that they have Had Enough and willing to Vote Democratic!
Who is etherapy? I guess she is a woman, and a very powerful one at that.
Hello FDL folks~
We are wondering at Laesch Hdqtrs, where did FDL get its name from?
Teddy San Fran @42–
Doing a spot on Colbert would rock! Unfortunately, I’m nowhere near that lucky–obviously!!
John Leasch said to Howie: Let me begin by thanking yourself and the netroots as a whole. Your support helped earn this campaign advancement into Round 3 of Mark Warner’s Mapchangers Contest. I am going to need all of your support to win that competition and a fundraiser with Mark Warner.
FDLers… We definitely need your help on this one. I can’t imagine that we won’t make it, but the final round consists of the VERY BEST Netroots candidates. With your permission, we’ll ask again.
Jen,
Send me your cell phone number please…
i sent it 2 your email already :)
Hey FDL members: Looking for some assistance. John will be in DC on July 13, do you think it’s too late to put a fundraiser together to have FDL members come out and meet John and possibly blog together?
Here I am back again. I want to introduce you to Jen, John’s campaign manager (#144). She’s here in person to deliver my update!
1,2,3 – Go Jen~!
Do we have any FDLers in the DC/VA/DE/MD area who would show up for a fantastically fun and high energy event?
Jen and John are going to meet and make connections with a few important beltway people in on/around July 13th. Doing a live event with some of you would be a good way to open or close an important benchmark in our run-up to the vote in November.
Jane, how about you and the dogs driving down? I lived in Baltimore for 3 years and drove to NY for business meetings. Heck, it’s a fun drive if you’re still be in CT!
It will be a live blog and smooze that you don’t want to miss!
“volunteered for Dennis Kucinich’s campaign”
VERY IMPRESSIVE!!
Laesch at 87 The spare is old and needs to be replaced.
Now isn’t THAT just the analogy for replacing those old, wornout, dangerous tires in Congress?
I didn’t do bald on behalf of the hair-challenged :)
With the Spare Tire Denny Hastert is carrying, why would he ever want to change?
