No one else in Iraq has electricity, water, schools, AC, but the new American base does. It has all those things, on the outskirts of Baghdad. This is why no one else does - all resources went to building this fort that shouts “We’re here forever, bitches, get use to it.”

I have seen mentioned the Pentagon $ missing 9/10/01 by egregious & someone else…anyone have a link to an article?
Coleman is my senator (oh, the shame) & I emailed him that I thought a much better use of his time would be to investigate all the $ missing in Iraq (I think it was est $9 billion then) than the oil-for-food thing. Of course, a form-type letter back with no words on the current thefts.

The scale of funding being shoveled into Iraq
becomes numbing from its’ width and depth. The
Democrats have failed the American people with
having let this Bush WH be so sloppy about such
obvious management and accountability shortfalls and pay no political penalty for it.
Were the tables turned and it was a debacle
to be laid at the doorstep of a Democrat run
WH do you think KR would have let this slide
by? One can easily imagine several high powered
GOP inquisitions being trumpeted about “waste,
fraud and graft of this Democrat WH”. Surely
if any of it could be made to stick close to
the Oval Office whether due to election giving
or who knew who from where dot connects talk
of impeachment would be getting airtime.
So the Democrats have a first tier issue here
and yet seem unable or unwilling to power up
around it and blow some serious holes in this
GOP condoned taxpayer money abuse.
It becomes increasingly more clear that this
war was mounted to the desires of a range of
related interests who stood to be able to bag
lots of profits along several lines of activity. Indeed from the war munitions, ammo
and all support columns required to keep up the
killing and mayhem to the “reconstruction and
rehab” contracting a range of players benefited
from G.W.Bush invading Iraq. And likely will
continue to do so for several more years if not
the next decade.
The Iraqi Air Force as of today is a ghostly
thin entity. It is very likely the Americans
will move very, very slowly to reconstitute any
Iraq Air Force too. It appears to be the USAF
that will fly the skies of Iraq for the coming
years alone. This ties into the “superbases”
being constructed and ties into the sketchy
and openended “American” deployment slated for
Western Iraq. The thrust of this being to plant
the American Flag on Iraq soil, maintain puppet
string control of Iraqi political leaders or
aid in deposing same should they not display
desired “pro-American” sensibilities. Between
here and there remains lots more killing and
violence.
So where is the Democrat searchlight over all
this? Where are the thrusts of truth and
facts that should be pointed into this Bush WH
everyday during this election cycle?
Where is this Opposition Party?

I always did think that the reason that Paul Bremer recieved his medal was for his role in laying the groundwork for the rape of Iraq’s economy.

Great job once again, Matt. Ugh. I cannot believe how much money we have pissed away on pure thievery.

We could have saved the continent of Africa from disease and pestilence.

We could have gone to the moon and maybe Mars.

We could have built another couple Hubble telescopes and more.

We could have found the cure to most common cancers.

But no…we bought a big money pit in the desert, into which I want to heave my guts for the loss of things that should have been with all this money and better intentions.

Matt, seriously, have you made inquiries about getting the series published? Perhaps you should talk to Jen Nix about another HWAPA. She has great ideas about 21st century progressive publishing.

Alternatively, have you gotten paper copies into the hands of any progressives on the Hill? I would be happy to get them into Barbara Boxer’s hands. We should talk about this.

Teddy - you are very right that those clinics are missing. Check over at MFIs site (click my name to link there) and scroll down a little for several detailed posts on the conditions in Iraqi hospitals at the moment including comments from one medical worker.

And given the state of medical care and the horrific wounds so many Iraqi children are suffering, the IOM (International Organization For Migration) has been asked by the Iraqi government to airlift children out for medical care. Several hundred have been treated in Jordan, etc but 6,000 are on the waiting list. To read more or to donate, click on this link:
