What I’m wondering is, if he got off a private plane, why didn’t Customs give THAT a going over.

I’m thinking that the Dominican Republic is a great place to score…pharmaceuticals, without having to go through the hassle and now-risky business of doktor-shopping. :o)

I remember when Rush was spinng the phone data mining story: “It’s just phone numbers and connections people, no names”.

And I’m sure that “just phone numbers” would not be of any use to investigators looking at, oh, something like DOCTOR SHOPPING.

I re-read the article and it said the bottle was “labeled as being issued to the physician rather than Mr. Limbaugh”. So perhaps the “two names” on the bottle were the same name physician’s name, one as the prescribing physician and one as the patient. It’s hard to tell because the story is internally inconsistent.

Also, it occurred to me that there could have been a mistake in that the person filling the prescription typed in the same name for “patient” and “prescribing physician”. But that seems unlikely.

Yes, the prescribing doctor would be in real trouble with the state medical board if indeed he wrote a prescription to himself or another doctor and gave it to Limbaugh. It wouldn’t surprise me if he were to offer a defense along the lines of “I absentmindedly wrote a prescription to myself instead of the patient.” If the medical board were to find that he did this deliberately and not by accident, I don’t know if they would revoke his license (this is usually reserved for really egregiously bad stuff like sexual abuse of patients or prescription narcotic abuse), but it could mean temporary suspension of his license or some other censure.

The medical board’s actions are separate from any legal action the state may take. I think it’s unlikely the state will pursue criminal charges against this doctor, unless they had evidence that he did this repeatedly, or there were other abuses of his prescriptive authority.

But this is all speculation on my part, obviously.
