For the week ending 6/24...
"Kos . . . controls . . . the Gambino crime family?!"

Well, it's been a tumultuous week - Geraldo Rivera wallowing in his own inadequacies (which is, admittedly, preferable to drawing Marine combat locations in the sand for the cameras), Ricky Sanitorium taking one for the team by declaring that WMDs really do exist, BushCo. rifling through bank records without asking first, and the stunning revelation by Jason Zengerle at The New Republic that Markos Moulitsas Zuniga is, in fact, a power-mad, domineering, mercenary agent of Beelzebub. As I made my way through the fevered swamp of the left, it was this story that generated the most snark:
Only because I am incredibly biased, I have to start off with the inestimable James Wolcott, who admits that he "briefly met Kos . . . and was quite disappointed by how genial and low-key he was. Perhaps he was having an off-day, since those more astute than I perceive an angry radioactive core."
The Rude Pundit is in high dudgeon over this latest blogfuffle and confides that "Markos Moulitsas looks smaller on TV than in person. He is actually seven feet tall, with hands that could crush a bowling ball. He sharpens his teeth by chewing beer bottles, and the rumor is that he shot Billmon just for snoring. He scares us all because he enters our villages and eats our livestock at night. Please help us, TNR, please end the tyranny."
The intrepid and delightfully anarchic Thers reveals damning correspondence from Kosferatu to his minions, one of whom is revealed to be none other than one Christine Harding Smythe. Hmmm....
Gavin M. at Sadly, No! exposes more devilish dictates from the Townhouse Tyrant, including this missive: "I’ve told TBogg to focus on local political races and to work the slogan, “Had enough?” into his posts, but he keeps doing that same old basset hound stuff again and again. Also, yesterday was Hat Day, and TBogg was not wearing a hat."
TBogg fires back with his own analysis of the Great Debacle: "Jason seems to think that he has a big scoop here which puts him in line to be the next Bob Woodward and with that comes fame, fortune and the inevitable selling out."
Lindsay at Majikthese calls it like she sees it: "We all need a little extra attention from time to time. Besides, trolling is a central plank of TNR's new business model."
Roger Ailes (no, not THAT one) summarizes all of this TNR stupidity in one sentence. But what a sentence. Ah, brevity.
And now for something completely different:
Skippy points us to some really Holy rolling in the hay, while over at Blah3, Stranger links to a wickedly funny video that made my brain hurt.
And speaking of videos, Crooks & Liars tells Geraldo the Combat Veteran not to bogart that spliff.
Norbizness, the demon behind Happy Furry Puppy Story Time, synopsizes all that is wrong with Ricky Retardo Santorum: "Another nail in the coffin encasing American greatness: somebody this stupid and desperate can still command followers who have more than a grade-school education."
Roy, at alicublog, discovers "the string theory of wingnuttia" in a debate about fatherhood between John "An 18 Year-Old Girl is Past Her Prime" Derbyshire and Jonah "Doughy Pantload" Goldberg. It's stunning.
General J.C. Christian appreciates the scent of a manwhore.
And for some really incredibly snarkalicious writing, just go read athenae and driftglass. Neither one ever fails to deliver.
Until next week, when I'm sure we'll all still be laughing about mewling David Brooks and his rabid lambs ...

S N A R K !!!!
Yeah, what they said!!!
Is there a picture of the rabid, venemous lamb somewhere? I can’t visualize it.
Ahhhhh,I love a cry of ROOTZ! at the top of a thread! Thanks RevDeb
LOL! I just saw this over at my place.
Rabid lambs, from darkblack.
Are all your lambs rabid now, Clarice?
Nice pick, watertiger. At least they’re not drowning in the fever swamp!
Do the wingnut blogs even attempt snark?
Make that “pic.” Jeebus.
David prefers his lambs silent, with fava beans and a nice chianti.
Thanks Watertiger!I just came back from the Rude pundit’s place, was in need of a laugh or two.And here you serve up a plateful. My cup runnith over.
Nothing like good snark in the middle of a rainy sunday.
Told the flock (of cats) this morning that one of the reasons we come to the blogs is for the humor. It keeps us from despair.
Thanks watertiger. I needed that.
We’re poor rabid lambs who’ve lost our way…blah, blah, blah.
God, I love Wolcott! In addition to his righteous snarkiness, no bloggist of any political persuasion writes better than he. It’s always a delicious read.
Sorry for the overload. There were so many tasty tidbits that I didn’t know where to stop.
David “Lambikins” Brooks
Tommy Yum @ 7
Do the wingnut blogs even attempt snark?
oh Tommy, attempt would be the operative term -
can you say clumsy, anemic, churlish, off-the-friggin’ mark ?
and that’s on their good days
the best way to sum it up in all it’s pathetic glory -
Doughy Pantload is their TBogg
You can join the Rabid Lamb Squadron!

I did a quick Googling of “rabies lambs” and discovered it’s very rare — it seems skunks can transmit rabies to lambs. Anything bigger with rabies like a coyote or wolf would just kill the poor little critter. Rabies vaccination is usually not recommended for sheep except in high-rabies areas — the vaccine is pretty expensive to prevent a rare problem in sheep. For some 4-H Shows, proof of rabies vaccination for lambs is needed in some states.
Now we all know more about rabid lambs than we thought we’d ever need to know …
Next lesson we will learn about sheep venom and its antidotes…
Is there a blogger around who has not (at least once) said to him/herself, “Please, Dear God, let me not piss off Jim Wolcott?” I feel like I’m bleeding, and I wasn’t even in the crossfire. That’s a special talent.
Ya know, how come it’s OK for Republicans to have their little Wednesday/Thursday/Whatever Groups with Grover Norquist, yet it’s NOT OK for the reality-based folk to have — GASP!!! — semi-private mailing lists!?!
Once again, the GOP/Media Complex plays the Double Standards Game.
Leslie in CA had some snark in the Conrad Black case below and that suddenly gave me shivers. Can you imagine if Karl Rove had a Conrad Black instead of a George Bush to work with?
See - it really could be worse.
BTW, what kind of leash do you get for venom and do they come with rhinestones?
sheep venom…no known antidote or cure
Our title gets longer every week! Now we’re “Rabid Lamb-Jane Hamsher’s of the left”What shall we add to the list next?
DMM @ 24, don’t forget “Markos-driven”
Gee, I wish I had couth
And the KOS bashing goes on…..and on.
Hugh Hewitt called Markos a traitor and an anti-Semite on his radio program Thursday. And Hewitt contributed to the voting on the twenty worst people in America, posted here:
http://www.rightwingnews.com/a.....PHP#005926
Markos probably went from off their scanner to #10 in a matter of weeks, due to the coverage of Yearly Kos.
I suppose the next thing coming at Markos will be some Army buddy being trooped out, saying Markos paid him to do his KP for him…..
Watertiger,
Ahhh,thats right!Silly me.
Terrific roundup, watertiger!
Rabid Venomous Lambs vs. Rabid Venomous Lemmings…see the movie.
Julie in Oakland @ 12:22 pm (#18) - Just one squadron? Bobo seemed to think there were several.
Sheesh, I wish you people would get it right. It’s rabid venomous lambs, damn it..
This just gets odder and odder, what is going on over at TNR?? Isn’t Zengerle subject to libel for the alleged Gilliard emails which Gilliard, Greenwald and others deny even exist?
Snark is hard work.
For a trifling seven figure paycheck from a wing nut hack shop, I’d be more than willing to go on screeching head cable TV, and reveal that Kos had an MOS in the Army.
Can you imagine? An MOS!!!
Watertiger’s pretty good at snark herself and allows her to have a deeper appreciation of others’ offerings.
“Markos-driven,Rabid-Lamb,Jane Hamsher’s of the leftest Fever-swamps”
Got a real ring to it,does it not?
Make a good T-shirt!
kurotenshi,
zengerle would probably just say he got burned by his sources.
Watertiger, great post. That Bush Bloody Sunday video was hilarious.
Have to go…thanks Watertiger for the smart, funny post and links, and for putting up with my silliness. Couldn’t help myself, what with all the angst these days, …humor is the finest of pressure gauges.
Watch kos get “schooled” by Colbert, and then … the very next day Lehrer, Shields, and Brooks stage some weird ritual reenactment.
Write That Down
Glorfindel @ 40,
god, if we couldn’t laugh . . . [shudders]
Excellent Snark, WaterTiger!!
We can thank sheep for their heroic work in combatting venom! Snake-bite antidote is produced by injecting brown snake venom in non-poisonous quantities into sheep — the non-rabid sheep then produce antibodies to this venom. The sheep blood is then harvested and the antibodies separated to produce venom antidote for humans.
Huzzah for sheep protecting us from the vipers !!!
While that “interesting cat” Kosferatu has pretty strict cult rules, apparently in Utah the Squadron can include rabid polyvenomous lambs.
In case anyone wasn’t sure.
Gilliard doesn’t deny he sent the emails — but he has no record of them, and no recollection that he sent them to the “Townhouse” group. That other members of Townhouse say they’ve never seen them puts TNR in a tough spot.
http://stevegilliard.blogspot......mails.html
Now that Dear Leader MarKos has been outed, Kos-ennui will derail the revolution — blogs will disappear, and we will all watch Fox News while reading Cheeto stained copies of National Review.
I’m one of the rabid lambs, but I’m saving my venom for the big fight coming soon to your nearest voting booth.
Rootz!
Its rabid venomous lambs, damn it . .
okay, okay, these two rabid, venomous lambs walk in to a baah . . .
Oh.my.God.
that’s my reaction on returning from the “Christian” arguments for oral and anal sex, and for threesomes (2 women only, 2 men still strictly forbidden!).
O.M.G. My brain hurts from that one.
Gee, I wonder what sex the writer of those posts is??
the real political question now is how to organize us individual rabid lambs into proper fighting squadrons …
ck at 47:
Not bloody likely.
In fact all this extra traffic from the NY Times and Newsweek readers will make people pay even more attention to left blogistan. Markos is going to need a bigger server.
It’s a great thing. POWER TO THE VOICES ON THE LEFT.
Well, you do realize we can’t stay lambs forever.
Some day we’ll be sheep.
What about the Bush Administration using the tall tales of an Iraqi cab driver to justify invading Iraq?
King Solomon could doubtlessly elucidate about pre-Christian but proper 3-ways (and 4 and 5 and …)

Great post !!! Thanks for the round up. And Ricky Retardo!!! LOL Can I use that one? It’s just TOO good.
Happy and relaxing Sunday to all.
p.s. Feingold ROCKS
watertiger: fear ye not! I’m 64yo and still gambol like a rabid lamb … I’ve just grown more venomous !
Reddhedd: I received a MMZM (Markos Moulitsas Zuniga Memo) last night but I couldn’t open it.
In the subject field it reads: Alert–Kos brain named! Votes for Reddhedd decapitates the competition!
Is it true?
I liked this one from Sadly, No!
Is it “Nedrenaline” or “Joenertia” this week? Let me know.
Atrios
The Republican Party manufacture enemies for the purpose of confusing people and keeping them in the dark. Even today, most people have successfully been brainwashed to believe that the media is liberal (yeah! GE, Time/Warner, Murdoch, etc.). So, now it is time to discredit Kos and the entire progressive blogosphere.
Get ready for the Swift Boat Liars to release commercials showing Markos morphing into Bin Laden.

An embarrassment of riches, watertiger. I especially liked this one from alicublog re: Derbyshire and Doughy Pantload:

Now, if we can only get the DC Dems to realize this, instead of treating us hicks who just fell off the turnip truck . . .
Am I missing the book discussion? My screen still says “comments off.”
now, here’s a lamb who deserves to be angry:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/200.....at_demoted
Late to the “rabid lamb” debate…
It just reminds me of a line from an Allen Ginsburg poem that I think is much more appropriate…
“revolution of the sexy lamb/poet is the priest”
Join the sexy lambs of the left!
Book discussion starts at 5:00 PM EST. The other thread was just an advert for it.
45 minutes from now, tune in!

Duh. Never mind. I guess I am time zone challenged.
I’ve been outta town at a wedding. Will someone please tell me what (and how to) think! I haven’t received the latest directive from Kos. Maybe my subscription has run out.
No, the Gambinos are the Republicans. Organized crime at its finest.
Left Kos’d?
Some one posted this on FDL a while back and I watch it periodically because… well I am not sure why. Maybe I need help. In any case, could we be rabid badgers instead of rabid lambs? I don’t think there is a rabid lamb song out there as good as this.
http://www.badgerbadgerbadger.com/
I think the response of bloggers and commenters to the kerfuffle is just right: ridicule. I am curious about one thing. Is this is just another demo of bankruptcy of corporate and snotty high toned pundit centers. Or is it a coordinated hit, or is it becoming a coordinated hit? Funny that this Kos feller got a lot of attention right after C-Span covered DailyKos and Faced Russert and Lived.
Funny they wouldn’t talk about who he supports, or what he supports, or how his blog platform really works, or compare message discipline on Kos versus a any of the big reactionary sites. No, all they could come up with somee-mail PR nonsense about a five year old scandal concerning his co-author, that apparently died out among the bloggers because there was essentially no media coverage and nothing much to react to or do anyway.
Bottom line, people should use this as an opportunity to get the URLs spread around.

Lee Siegel via Wolcott:
“But, then, Zuniga … believes so deafeningly and inflexibly that it’s hard to tell what he believes at all, especially if you try to make out his conviction over the noisy bleating of his followers.”
HA!!! Methinks archeo-blog-ologists will identify this phrase, this putrid phrase that stinks like it turned last month, as the wing nut sperm that inseminated BoBo’s brain, and transported him to the rancid prose side of the sheep dip.
Mary @ 1:07 pm (#65) - Too bad you have to be one with Microsoft to watch the video, but it looks like Sen. Feingold countered Timmeh pretty well. Crooks and Liars should have at least a snippet later on today.
Anybody seen looseheadprop? Am following up on differential diagnosis re her recurring fever and delirium.
It matters greatly what kind of test she had for malaria. One kind is fairly accurate but another has a high rate of false negatives.
With a false negative, you think you don’t have something, but you actually do.

David Brooks has no idea what he has “unleashed” on the rest of us. This is the end of civilization as we know it.
OK, I guess no one likes the rabid badger idea. Sheep/lambs it is. Here are the signs.
In the diseased sheep, the average incubation period was 10.0 days and the average morbidity period was 3.25 days. Major clinical signs included muzzle and/or head tremors (80%), aggressiveness, hyperexcitability, and/or hyperaesthesia (80%), trismus (60%), salivation (60%), vocalization (60%) and recumbency (40%). The furious form of rabies manifested in 80% of the sheep.

We need to request all the media snots display the URLs within the next 10 days. After that…
I was surprised no one seemd to pick up on the Wolcott piece when I linked it last night. I’m glad it’s getting more attention - great job, watertiger! Atrios gives it linky love, too, and an extended quote.

Sometimes the truth hurts. If we are to criticize hypocrisy, lying and stealing from the right…and our leaders are doing the same thing, it makes us no better than them. No mention of the great RFK Jr.’s amazing article about election fraud except,”I don’t know very much about this subject.” This subject is the reason we are in the mess that we are in. Kos didn’t allow discussion about election fraud after a certain period of time. Certain subjects are taboo. Not Fitz, however who hasn’t done much for the length of time he has been investigating. Wake up to the propaganda from the right and left. And did Armando from Kos work in a law firm that represented Wal Mart? If he did, then wouldn’t this look a little suspicious since Kos likes Mark Werner, repub. lite, even though the American people are sick of corporate ownership of this country.

Molly — you want to see other subjects covered more in depth that you think are getting the short shrift? Start your own blog and cover those issues. It’s as simple as that…
Book Salon is up: LAPDOGS!
Fresh thread for book club above, gang. As always, please keep the book club thread for book discussion only — we’ll be monitoring comments and will delete non-book-related ones. If you wish to discuss topics other than Lapdogs, please do so in this thread. THANKS!
It would be nice to see a post somewhere that straightens out all of the misperceptions in this nonsense. I don’t know enough about blogs to even try to write it. But even dopey blog naive me can see in about a second that DailyKos is not a standard blog over which the Commander exercises control. I’d like to see nice calm, non-rabid lamb post answering some questions enquiring minds mighbe entertaining, like:
-what candidates are the blos supporting, and why, and are they all deranged leftists?
-if the lefty blogs are anarchists, why are they supporting Lamont, who has pledged to support whoever wins the CT primary, as opposed to Lieberman, who refuses to do so?
-what are demographics of some of these blogs
-OK, how much dough is there in the blogads thing, what kind of pile are these leftoblogocrats making? Even for golfing regular golfing trips to St. Andrews?
-how come the lefty blogs have so few parties?
-how many good old fashioned moderate Republicans come to places like FDL?
I have a new name for this type of disingenuous concern troll:
“Drag Troll.”
Both because they dress up in progressive “I’m on your side” drag and because they try to drag the discussion into bullshit and irrelevancies.
Pach at 1:49 pm –
Things are like that sometimes.
A couple of years ago, I heard an NPR reporter (Don Gagne?) on a Sunday, with an explosive bit of information about some Bush scandal or another. I emailed Josh Marshall, he picked it up, and — nothing . . . until several weeks later, when the MSM finally noted the story.
The smoldering story spontaneous combustion theory of journalism, I guess . . .

There are many different folks out here in the fever swamps. I’m inclined to mistrust the Mark Warners, too, but as long as there are large corporations there will be people like them, and they may be the best alternative in some races. It’s also good to have at least a few different points of view when you’re trying to decide policy.
This is what’s so silly about the Brooks article on Markos - we obviously aren’t people who conform to a point of view.
ever notice how the concern trolls always sound alike. Is there a concern troll training program, CTTP, or is there only one concern troll with many handles?

Speaking of Drag Trolls, I made the mistake of responding to a Naderite ‘no difference between Bush & Gore’ troll at the end of Howie Klein’s thread yesterday. It was only the troll, myself, and one other poster that got into it — feel free to delete the lot of them. blech!!!

“the rumor is that he shot Billmon just for snoring.”
That’s not true — he just nailed my head to a coffee table. He’s a cruel man, but fair.
glad to hear it :]!
I think we are still missing the subtleness of Brooks’ insight on rabid venomous sheep bloggers. Face it, he is onto us. He has discovered that we are the unholy genetic hyrbid offspring of Shelob (see Tolkein, big f’ing spider) and Shaun (see Nick Park’s “A Close Shave,” cut f’ing lamb), who have been PURPOSELY subjected to bites from rabid skunks (see *ilson46201 @ 19 for the details of how lambs get rabies). To summarize, a giant evil spider with a taste for hobbit has been gene spliced with a sweater wearing (plasticene) lamb, the mutated progeny of which are locked in a cage with a rabid skunk until they too contract the disease. Then they (we) are taught how to work with Word Press, given a rudimentary blog lexicon (”troll” is already part of the Tolkein genome, so its pretty easy), and then set loose to foam venom onto unsuspecting pundits in the MSM.
Brooks is too keen. He is on to us. We must take him to Mordor for a very special Grand Day Out (ahem).
billmon @ 2:50 pm (#119) - Very Pythonesque. And I don’t think it transgressed the unwritten law. Not one bit.
The Crooks and Liars video of Feingold’s MTP interview is up.

“he shot billmon just for snoring”
One of my late relatives, John Wesley Hardin, was rumored to have once shot a man to death in a hotel for snoring. John Hardin killed over thirty people during his gunslinging career. Hardin was pardoned on March 16, 1894 and was, after studying law in prison, admitted to the Texas bar soon after his release. John Wesley Hardin was murdered by a corrupt Texas lawman in 1895. John Hardin, my great, great uncle:
