UPDATE: Crooks and Liars has even more video.
If you are Joe Lieberman, how much are you sucking when even Howie Kurtz turns on you?
Just asking…
Could be because Liberman continues to do lame ass crap like this:
Lead off the batting order for the REPUBLICANS in the discussion of the Iraq War in the Senate. See it on video here.
Or that he continues to be a completely lame campaigner, who only makes himself look worse and worse, the more he tries to campaign. Pathetic.
Um…hello…what party is he supposed to be in again? Go Ned.
Competence and passion are so much more alluring than whining and grovelling, aren’t they? Did I say, "Go Ned?" A New Haven newspaper thinks Ned is poised to win.
Joe-mentum? Not so much. Feel the Joe-Nertia!
(Huge hat tip to Curious Jim for the Joe-Nertia bit. Mwahahahahahaha!!!)

NED!
I’d bet my left nutmeg that he bolts.
ahhhh … fitz
You all might envy us Wisconsinites our Russ Feingold, as well you should, but sadly we’ve also got our own Liebermann in Herb Kohl. However, since Kohl can self-finance, he’s untouchable in the upcoming election.
Christy…this post and net neutrality actually go well together. If it wasn’t for the net, and people like you, a lot of Lieberman’s Republican brown-nosing would have disappeared. Santorum and Lieberman – they deserve each other! I’m curious what people think… which is it (both are equally offensive) …
(1) does Holy Joe really, actually truly believe all his war hoopla ?
(2) is he just trolling for votes?
Of course there is a third option… he doesn’t exist… he is a go-bot created by Dr. Evil…
noblejoannie@5… I SO envy you with your Feingold. Wish he belonged to all of us…
Hey Joe. Why bother with the middle step of becoming an Independent? Save everyone the nonsense. You have everyone’s permission to scoot right ahead to Republican.
I’m totally in love with Feingold. If you’re reading this Russ, please tell me you could use a base in California. Heh.
Christy, good post, but it’s not “the New Haven newspaper.” It’s a progressive independent. The main one is the “New Haven Register,” as I recall from way back.
Does Rape Gurney Joe think UConn students think he looks kewl in that cap?
Nedrenaline!
He won’t give up power, guy made a bid for VP. To bad Gore hadn’t picked someone that would deliver a state. Nice job at getting FLA Joe loser.
Weepin’ Joe Lieber-splat tries a new tactic — win the hearts and minds of blogtopia by becoming a laughingstock for the beltway pundits.
Yeah, Joe — that’s the ticket!!!
Why in the world would Warmonger Joe give the GOP opening statement? It makes no sense unless Lieberman is insanely clueless.
A second possibility, and one I’ve been giving some thought to this week, is that Lieberman is planning to switch parties to run as the GOP candidate. This may sound crazy but Lieberman’s getting desperate. With recent polling showing he’d fail in an independent run and Lamont surging to a likely primary victory, what options are left for Lieberman?
Aside from the mechanics of doing the switch and becoming the GOP candidate (I’m not familiar with the timing of election laws in Connecticut), the only obstacle for him is to convince the republicans in Connecticut that he’s their man. The best way to do that is to more tightly and more obviously embrace the GOP agenda. I’m guessing we’re going to see Joementum increasingly look like Zell Miller time.
Kurtz’s piece is an improvement over his usual fare, I suppose, but he still gets it wrong. The driving force behind Lieberman’s demise isn’t Marcos, it’s Ned Lamont. He completely overlooks Lamont’s credibility and broad-based appeal for the sake of the “Lunatic Lefties Storming the Bastille” storyline.
Let’s hope Ned reminds Connecticut Democrats EVERY DAY about that handoff from John Warner to Joe so that he could lead the charge for support of W’s war on the Senate floor. Shameful that a Blue State Democrat can get away with being a war-enabler and Bush-kisser.

Had Enough?

I think Joey has some decisions to make. God knows, I’m all for principles, and I respect the right of all people to stand by their beliefs, but at the same time, it seems to me that those elected to office have to weigh their personal beliefs against the wishes of the constituents they represent, and also have to balance those principles within the framework of the political party with which they are affiliated.
If Lieberman were representing just himself, I would have no problem with the stand he is taking on Iraq. But the reason we have representative government is because we cannot conduct the business of the country by having to have a plebiscite on every single issue. So those in office are not representative of the one body – their own – that gets a ticket to D.C, but of all of the people in the districts or states that elected them. Some will argue that we vote for a candidate because his or her beliefs most mirror our own, so that having that person in office is the next best thing to being there ourselves. And that’s fine if your guy wins. But if your guy doesn’t win, he or she still has an obligation to represent your views, although that person has no loyalty to the opposition party.
Lieberman has so clearly departed from the mission and views of the Democratic party, and from the people who elected him because they thought he personified those beliefs, that the only principled thing he could do now would be to change party affiliation.
The only bright spot here is that if Lieberbaby continues in this fashion, he is going to get his ticket punched for a one-way trip back to Connecticut.
what a complete tool
dr. bloor at 16,
While I have come to admire and respect Ned Lamont I don’t think Joe can blame Ned for his troubles. The only person he has to blame is himself.
Thre a diary at dkos to send kind words to Jane and her family. Please recommend:
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2006/6/22/13439/0801
Geez, that image of Joe is as bad Dukasis’ tank/helmet photo. I can just hear his whiny smarmy warble of a voice.
The driving force behind Lieberbaby’s demise is Lieberbaby; none of this would be happening if he weren’t acting like he got into a stash of GOP Kool-Aid, and decided he really likes the taste.
Maybe we need to check his photos more carefully for the telltale Kool-Aid “mustache.”
Pach 21 – done. thanks for the heads-up.
I’ve said it before, but the netroots needs Joementum’s political scalp to establish credibility with the punditocracy. Luckily, he’s been a big help to us and Ned’s a winner.
joementum isn’t catchy
in fact, you’re more likely to be cured of joementum than you are to catch it
we need to get some scientists to investigate this phenomenon
imagine if we could mutate joementum into bird flu strains ???
a self defeating virus, what a concept
Still flummoxes me that Joe finds his self-interest (his ONLY motivation, as far as I can tell) onboard this sinking ship of Chimpy’s war.
Can anyone splain me that?
I would also add, if you comment at the dkos thread, send warm thoughts to our community “cousins” in the dkos community.
With the forces of the right wing and the so-called “centrists” actively conspiring to divide us, expressions of our unity and peer-to-peer support have value.
OfTopic: Thanks to whoever posted the Wall Street Journal map and Zogby poll — I got it pushed into the local politics chat at WaPoO going on now, as part of discussion about the Allen/Webb race. Mark Plotkin, the reporter chatting, had earlier said “there have not been polls that I have seen on the Allen-Webb race but there sure will be…”
Get online, WaPoO, it’s your last name!

Joe is a warmongering chickenhawk traitor and gets nothing but disgust from this former CT resident. Never voted for him and never, ever will. It was hard to vote for Gore only because Joe was on the ticket. I could not wait for his total defection from the party and yesterday evening I witnessed it as Warner deferred to him and then gave him a gooper wet one after he spoke.
fyi– John Edwards giving a fine speech at the National Press Club on CSPAN 3.
Looking forward to watching Joementum careen into a Joemental slow motion political car wreck…the way he orates, it has to be in slow motion…

The whole article paints Joe as VERY alienated from the rest of Dems. This is the last bit…
…”Lieberman may have been standing at his desk in the third row, left aisle of the Democratic side of the Senate, but he sounded a lot like GOP senators from the other side.
“We cannot afford a strategy that includes running away from responsibility,” said Sen. John R. Thune, R-S.D. “Is Iraq the front line of the war on terror? I believe it is.”
Lieberman echoed that theme as he closed his remarks.
“We cannot and must not concede any battlefield to our enemy in this most unconventional but deadly serious war,” Lieberman said. “I do not think it is an overstatement to say that our freedom and security and that of most of the rest of the world, Muslim and non-Muslim, depends now … on American persistence and fortitude.”
Warner then offered his praise. Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., walked to her seat to prepare for her own speech, resuming the Democratic argument for the phased withdrawal.”

This is about how Joe can always depend on saving the sub base jobs…(hint: it’s rigged, anyway…)
EPU-ed from last thread:
Chip Reed on MSRNC saying that setting a timetable in Iraq now has been shut down. All morning MSRNC-babes have been sayin’ C&R as though it’s a subliminal message they’re pushing. I’ve been waiting to hear the phrase in the middle of a report on the Duke rape case or Chicago courthouse lockdown…
If the Rethugs think they can take Iraq off the table now as an election issue for the Dems, think again…
Cut the malarkey ’cause we’re going to run the Rethug rascals outa power.
Received this e-mail from John Kerry just a moment ago:
Thanks for the dkos diary for Jane, Pach. Suggest all go, recommend, and send wishes there as well. This spirit shows what our communities — FDL and DKos — are all about.
OT –
A convict has escaped from marshals in the Fed courthouse in Chicago, which is now in lockdown, sez CNN. Hope Fitz isn’t there today.
Joe Lieberman was an incredibly weak vice-presidential candidate. He’s become an absolutely terrible senator. His speech on the Senate floor pushed me over the edge — I just donated more money to Ned.
you just put words to my silent fear, lotus.
Edwards is getting lots of applause from the audience– pretty rare for this group.
OT, if you haven’t made some noise about Blackwell’s “emergency” voting restrictions…
PFAW is on it
This is what I wrote:
To the Joint Committee and Mr. Blackwell, I must comment at this time about the tactics that the office of the Secretary of State is continuing to employ that serve no purpose other than to disenfranchise poor voters.
Now Mr. Blackwell is trying the same tactics in an election in which he is a candidate. In light of the potential conflict of interest, I urge you to rein in this attempt by Mr. Blackwell to subvert the electoral process for his own benefit.
Voting is a right. Peoples lives are also very busy, and many people have financial and time pressures that leave them unable to overcome additional hurdles placed in the way of their ability to perform their democratic duties as citizens. Fraud is not the major problem here, it is the fact that citizens have had unnecessary barriers placed in the way of their right to vote.
Mr. Blackwell, tear down this wall.
Sincerely
Me
John Edwards has become my favorite candidate for 2008 — he has charisma, a populist message, and he placed first in a recen Iowa poll.
Now, if he can get past his insubstantial golden boy vibe . . .
Kurtz’s piece begins with the rhetorical: “Can the bloggers knock off Joe Lieberman?” He then goes on to say that’s an exaggeration and that Lieberman would be in hot water anyway. Despite this, he says it will be an interesting case study. How? Then he asks, “Can an online mobilization make a difference in a low-turnout primary?” Notice the dismissive “low turnout”. Given voters low turnout even in general elections this has all the insight of a tautology. Also just if you were wondering, Lieberman is for Kurtz a “moderate-to-conservative Democrat in a liberal party.” There are 3 things wrong with this statement. Lieberman is very much a conservative. He is only nominally a Democrat and maybe not even that for much longer. And it speaks volumes about how right wing the right wing is that the Democratic Party can be seen as liberal nowadays. He then quotes John Dickerson of Slate who talks about the “liberal dogmatic line” and “die-hard liberals”. It is only at that end that he quotes Kos. It’s a good quote but you notice where it is placed and all the caveats that have proceeded it. Very fair and balanced for he said, she said journalism.
Kos is also giving a shout-out to “Edwards’ Big Idea” this morning.
Wow, just when you think he can’t f**k up anymore, he leads off with a home run level f**k up. This twit irks me more than almost any republican, a disgrace to word Democrat. I have never given money to race in another state before today but we have got to rid ourselves of this guy, I watched this and gave $$$ to Ned.
Horrible sight I tell you, this dude is more out of touch than Bush and that is hard to do!
Pach, I had to set up an account at Dkos so I won’t be able to post a comment for 24 hrs. Jane and her family are in my prayers. Surely she is aware of all of the goodwill being sent her way.
The manner in which Howie references bloggers reminds me of the way a biologist might refer to a specimen in a cage. I’m sure the condescension is intended. What he fails to understand is that there are literally hundreds of individuals in this country who could sit at his desk tomorrow and match or better his performance. Only his attachment to the Post’s infrastructure (like a coral polyp on a calcareous matrix to continue the metaphor) keeps his paycheck coming. If he had started in the same place at the same time as Kos or Jane or Digby who do you think would have heard of him?
AAACKK! That hat! That tie!

Someone had Raw quoting Globe on Specter’s rabble rousing again…
Here’s the article.

Specter’s not sure who’s coming from 1600 Penn Ave. but…
…”Another witness will be Bruce Fein , a former lawyer in the Reagan administration who also sits on a task force the American Bar Association has convened to evaluate Bush’s use of signing statements. Fein said he plans to tell the committee that it should include in all legislation a provision that cuts off funds for everything in the bill if a president uses a signing statement to exempt himself from following some part of the bill.”…
Let’s be clear on something, Senator Lieberman. The nation is not at war. The power to declare war lies solely in the Congress of the United, the Executive is responsible for waging war once declared.
Even presuming for a moment that the Authorization to Use Military Force amounted to a declaration of war, that war was waged against the government of Iraq. With Saddam Hussein in our custody and on trial before an Iraqi court, the war is over.
What we now have is a military occupation of an allegedly sovereign nation. An occupation is a completely different matter than a war. The people of Iraq are within their sovereign rights to oppose continued occupation of their country. Did we not do as much in 1776?
Remaining in Iraq is foolish, perhaps even counterproductive. Staying the course might make sense, if there were a tangible goal. As it is, the Bush administration is like a driver without a road map and no destination in mind. When you don’t know where you’re going, you’ll never know when you get there.
Senator Lieberman, we’ve had enough. Just in case you haven’t figured it out, you’ve been challenged in the primary and you’re losing the challenge precisely because we’ve had enough!

Rove’s Risky Embrace
By Dan Froomkin
Special to washingtonpost.com
Thursday, June 22, 2006; 12:12 PM
Karl Rove is a master of high-stakes brinksmanship, as he has proven time and time again.
Rove is betting that he can reframe the war in Iraq as a battle between courageous Republicans and pusillanimous Democrats.
The stakes: Congress. (And subpoena power.)
But his latest venture may be his riskiest yet.
[MUCH more … ]
Joseph Lieberman has given a disgusting speech. I can’t even pick out the half-truths because it pisses me off so much. “War is Hell”? These are what lines from movies?
Incidentally, I am now convinced that Lieberman has no moral compass. He merely sniffs and goes with the political wind and right now he thinks its BushCo.
Somebody needs to ask Lieberman point blank whether he wants to invade Iran.
You guys – and especially Bobby G – need to go over to Crooks & Liars and watch the new video by the activist teenager in Alabama, “Their Lives are More than Just a Number.”
Really powerful, and to think she’s just 15.
Blew me away.
Hugh – it’s pretty depressing, isn’t it?
I offered it not so much for the roll call, but for what he said about the “why ” of it all.
Neither of my Senators voted for it.
Obama has been a real godamn disappointment for me. Sad, the man had a lot of potential, and has an amazing oratory abilities but is turning out to be spineless (to be fair, most of the Democrats are).

Edwards– oooh, big applause for raising the minimum wage– politicians are thwarting the will of the American people; they did it yesterday. We have to allow and encourage people to organize…the difference between where there is a union and where there is no union is the difference between making it (with health care and pensions) and living in poverty. Collective bargaining is important to the American worker.
Need to reform HUD– it is bloated and bureaucratic. Decent housing for all Americans is a necessity.
30% kids are dropping out– what possible chance do they have in this world of globalization? Proposes 2nd chance schools.
Thanks Pachacutec !
okay, one more time, how much is Ned paying Lieberman’s consultants ?
Kurtz and Run
Dang, Hugh @ 51.
That sure is a lot of dry powder!
See, angie? That’s why I’m so stuck between Edwards and Feingold at this point. Both show the courage of their convictions, each is his distinctive way. I just need to see more of ‘em both to make a decision. Luckily, we’ve got time.
Apparently, Steve King, that schmuck from Iowa, apologized to Helen Thomas.

I see Maria Cantwell is on that list too. Blogged about an article about her polling numbers this morning.
I think when they make the Lieberman biopic, they’ll need to get Kevin Spacey to do it (anyone else see the resemblance in the photo? And no, it doesn’t make me respect Spacey any less).
Q– how to deal with accusations of cut and run.
A: Bush, Cheney created this mess with help from Rumsfeld and others. I regret my vote. There has been no accountability. People in DC talk about this in the abstract– people are dying. It’s comical that Bush would accuse anybody of anything– he’s never admitted he did anything wrong. Don’t worry about what the republicans are saying, just do the right thing. The way to show you are leaving is to start leaving… People want to help the Iraqis, they don’t want to help the US or the coalition that did this thing.
lotus @ 62
simple, Feingold does not have to exlain his vote on Iraq, or why he spent almost 3 years equivocating on same
Be careful PJF !
lotus & angie,
Feingold/Edwards? I don’t think Feingold could/should/would run as vp; don’t know if Edwards would want to settle again for vp slot. Love ‘em both.

Tlazolteotl, who on earth would go see a Lieberman biopic, even WITH Kevin Spacey? (And yes, you’re right about the resemblance.)
He could jump to the Republican party, but I don’t think he’d win. I can’t see the party faithful coming out and voting for Al Gore’s running mate.

OMG Curious Jim at 72 — I am SO using that one!!!
Lieberman is a true example of what happens when you sell your soul to the devil. Lieberman has alot of friends in hell right now. After losing to Bush in the fixed election Liberman made a deal with the devil aka Bush. It’s been all down hill from there. Oh yes he’s been given stolen money but folks remember this ( you come in this world with nothing and you leave it with nothing) God gave us a soul and Lieberman sold his.
Kurtz makes it sound as if there’s just this group of virtual folks out there on the internets pushing Lamont. What missing . . . oh, wait a minute: actual folks in CT who are pushing for Ned.
Yes, there are indeed real people out there in Connecticut working for Lamont. People like CT-NARAL, who stood up to their national office leaders in opposing a candidate who says that women who want Plan B after a rape can just go to the next hospital down the road if the one they’ve been brought to doesn’t want to dispense it.
Hmmm . . . Kurtz doesn’t mention NARAL either . . . I guess for Howie it’s all about the war, all the time.
Even when it’s not for the folks in CT. Arrogance and condescension make for a helluva platform, Joe. It makes the contrast between the candidates so much clearer. (Kind of like the contrast between Froomkin and Kurtz . . .)

We have to extend the voting rights act-it’s an amazing thing that the Repubs did and they need to be held accountable.
WOOO– big applause for this: I am disappointed in the country that George Bush is preznit and I don’t think I am alone in that.
Advice for Dems: Quit worrying about the pollsters and get rid of the consultants. (YAY)
What sacrifice would Pres. Edwards ask from Americans?
15-20 billion a year to help get people out of poverty.
Alternative energy; we need fuel efficiency standards that work.
Young people should be engaged in service to the community.
The country is waiting for someone to lead and just ask things of them– they will sacrifice.
Hi EPU — wonderful to have a whole universe drop in on us, if even just for a motment!
Let us never forget how lovingly Joe smooched Cheney’s ass during the 2000 VP debate.
I’d like to see a Feingold/ Janet Napolitano or Gore/Napolitano ticket. Janet is the best governor Arizona has had in a long time and is a torn in the side of the Republican congress here, she veto all of their BS, again, and again. Its fantastic to watch them go bonkers at her and not be able to do anything about it! Go Janet.

Janet is the way to get a woman on the ticket. She is fantastic and pretty immune to the Republican slime machine. The testosterone levels in Washington make me ill, all the talk of “bloody this, nuke that, wish I lived in a time when I could fight a duel” are at the root of why nothing gets accomplished there. It’s a metaphorical cockfight, the point is to win, the issue is irrelevant. We need good honest women and Janet is one of the best out there right now and is Governor of a fairly major state. She has like a 74% approval rating in a very Republican (J.D. Hayworth, McCain, Kyl) state, she is a fluke and we are so lucky to have her, we had a string of truly horrible governors. (Meacham, Symington, etc.)
Perfect.

adding insult to in-Joe-ry
In today’s WaPo, there’s a guest editorial from William Perry, former Clinton Sec of D, now at Stanford, and Ashton Carter, his Assist Sec of Defense, now at Harvard, Kennedy School, in which they argue for a preemptive war against N. Korea, starting by sending a cruise missile to destroy the N. Korean missile on its launch pad.
The Cheney interview on CNN is significant because he notes that while worrisome, the N. Korea missile is “rudimentary,” and thus not an immediate threat to the US.
http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmp…..heney_dc_3
One can only be relieved that, even though these officials were once in our government, they were never put in a situation in which they could unilaterally start a preemptive war. They would be quite comfortable in the current neo-con regime, where the peaceable Cheney could keep an eye on them.
Can’t even sort out the whackos anymore.
Just-refreshed Raw Story is FULL of hot headlines.
How do they do that all day every day?
gleex @ 10:04 am said “To bad Gore hadn’t picked someone that would deliver a state.”
I wasnt’ a fan of Gore then (I like him more now), and voted third party in that election. (I’m sorry, guys, I’ve not been a Democrat since the mid ’80s.) I would have voted for Gore then anyway, except that he selected Leiberman as his running mate. To me, this signaled that Gore was just a craven politician like all the rest.
What’s with the CM spin that the anti-Leiberman sentiment is both new and solely about the war? The was is, of course, only one of the contentious points — and in some ways, not even the most contentious of them. Is it important that we start being more vocal in unspinning these things?
Democrats lead in twelve of seventeen states for Senate races.

Evan Meacham was a prototype for this lot we have now. AHall of Fame S.O.B. Horrible growing up here w/ that kind of leader. Janet slipped through the crack, I don’t know how she did it, amazing. She is as good as they come (although I disagree w/ her on sending the Nat. guard to the boarder, I think she is co-opting the Rep. Stance to nullify them attacking her on it, don’t agree w/ it but I understand).
If anyone doesn’t know about her check it out.

It bothers the hell out of me that there is even one rethuglican. When someone has actually been a Democrat for years, sides with Bush on anything, you have one totally screwed up person. I’ve said all along, that I believe Lieberman has never recovered from Al Gore not supporting his run for president in the early 04 run! He’s got a big “mad” on, and he’s getting even with all of us!

Nelson (D-FL)
Nelson (D-NE)
Pryor (D-AR)
Republican who voted for:
Chafee (R-RI)
Its basic points are sharing of Iraqi resources among sectarian groups, an international conference (as if anyone is really stupid enough to get involved at this point), and:
(C) the Iraq Government should promptly and decisively disarm the militias and remove those members of the Iraqi security forces whose loyalty to the Iraq Government is in doubt
[Note: overlooking the fact that the militias are the government and everyone has multiple allegiances]; and
(D) the President should–
(i) expedite the transition of United States forces in Iraq to a limited presence and mission of training Iraqi security forces, providing logistic support of Iraqi security forces, protecting United States infrastructure and personnel, and participating in targeted counterterrorism activities
[Notice no schedule or deadline given];
(ii) after consultation with the Government of Iraq, begin the phased redeployment of United States forces from Iraq this year; and
(iii) submit to Congress a plan by the end of 2006 with estimated dates for the continued phased redeployment of United States forces from Iraq, with the understanding that unexpected contingencies may arise;
[Notice: Ditto above]
(2) during and after the phased redeployment of United States forces from Iraq, the United States will need to sustain a nonmilitary effort to actively support reconstruction, governance, and a durable political solution in Iraq; and
(3) the President should carefully assess the impact that ongoing United States military operations in Iraq are having on the capability of the United States Government to conduct an effective counterterrorism campaign to defeat the broader global terrorist networks that threaten the United States.
[Notice: “carefully assess” them’s fighting words and so characteristic and realistic to expect from this President.]
Bottom line: Mealy mouthed mush.
Joe-nertia. You heard from me first, but I hereby assign all right, title and interest to it into the blogosphere to assist in poking fun at that sanctimonious, narcissistic, quisling weenie cry-baby.
My read of the Froomkin article is that Karl Rove and Bushco have convinced the Republicans to wear Bush as an anvil around their necks, or else.
Iceberg straight ahead.

Good call, Curious Jim @ 110. I could probably put punaise jr. through college on the royalties from “Ole 60 Grit”, but I wouldn’t dream of it. What gets coined at FDL belongs to FDL, I say.
new thread — perfect storm?
Btw, Any body heard from ‘Puddles” lately? (snicker)
Busted – was that one yours? LOL. He’s wringing out his soiled garments.
TeddySanFran at 29: Thanks to whoever posted the Wall Street Journal map and Zogby poll…
You’re welcome.
Always happy to brag about Webb.
Gotta love it , We use our own short hand for these peckerwoods. And yes, Puddles is mine.
Busted, Josh Marshall notes that they did not include Montana or Rhode Island in that poll.
Weird.
A few more Joe-mentum-isms for your consideration…

Josh Marshall pointed out that the WSJ Zogby poll doesn’t even include Montana and Rhode Island where the Democrats have an excellent chance to grab 2 Republican Senate seats.
Lieberman is no less nauseating than he’s ever been, but what really needs to be looked at here is Lieberman’s battle plan for the Connecticut primary.
Joe’s plan is to run out the clock until primary day and hope he eeks out a majority, thereby retaining his seat. If not, he’ll break out the independent petitions.
It’s pretty clear that he doesn’t care to run on issues important to the people of his own party in Connecticut. If he was, he wouldn’t lead off the REPUBLICAN charge in the Senate in favor of continuing the Iraq quagmire. The war isn’t playing well back home, and whatever principle he’s trying to uphold (although most evidence collected to date fails to establish Joe Lieberman as a man of principles) by caucasing with Republicans is lost on Democratic voters in Connecticut.
If my prayers are answered, the debate between Lamont and Lieberman will be televised on C-Span. I’m thinking of my pizza order for that night right now. It’ll go down smooth with a big glass of an incumbent getting his ass kicked.
TRANNY-ANNIE ENDORSES JOE-MENTUM!
This just in from ThinkProgress: Right-wing pundit Ann Coulter appeared on Fox News this afternoon to discuss the war in Iraq. Coulter derided the lawmakers who have called for a redeployment strategy from Iraq, questioning whether “FDR [had] to deal with this during World War II.” She argued that the only type of politician she “admires” is someone like Sen. Joseph Lieberman (D-CT) because he “does want to defend America and fight the war on terrorism.”
Dig it, including video, here: http://thinkprogress.org/2006/…..lieberman/
OMG I am WAY behind on the blogs. . . but if you haven’t contributed to Lamont’s campaign yet, DO IT NOW–and if you have, DO IT AGAIN! Just like Kurtz says, this is a test–a test of the political power of the blogs to drag politicians a bit further to the left. Can we do it? YOU BET!
The country-and the Democrats–are watching!
Oh, and on Edwards v. Feingold:
Feingold has a perfect “don’t f*ck with me” look. Edwards has the opposite.
Sorry Edwards fans–but as long as elections in this country are all about who is the bigger alpha male, Sonofamillworker “Robin” Edwards will NEVER win.
But at least there will always be a seat on the Defense Policy Review Board for Joe, or a board membership at AIPAC.
