Late to the party! Brian, best wishes in your efforts. A few upthread mentioned “opposition research”, and I was intrigued by that. Is this a serious issue in a local race like yours? Just musing here, but there are a lot of good researchers at FDL who might be able to dig out info if you need it.

Brian — thanks so much for stopping by — hope we’ve been able to help in some way. Hope you haven’t been to too many rubber chicken dinners lately, and that you are keeping up with the handshaking. *g* Seriously, though, you are a great guy — and your district will be lucky to have you when you win. :)

First of all, now that I’m back from campaign events and am on my computer instead of a blackberry….

I want to THANK BIG TIME Howie, Christie, Jane and Pach for this wonderful post.

I had the incredible pleasure of meeting the FDL crew at YK and I have to tell you, they were the hit of the ball.

On a personal note, Bruce Molsky is an amazing musician (read world class) and had a new CD out, SOON BE TIME. Check it out, you will NOT be disappointed.

I would also like to thank everyone for the support the netroots have given this campaign. If there is one message everyone should take away from this afternoon it’s GET INVOLVED.

Crash the Gates…do your part…we can change the world and it starts with baby steps…after all, do we really have a choice?

My thanks to everyone,

Bionic (83)

I dunno if my voice turns republicans that are tuning in. Instinctively what I feel is that it is necessary to combat the right-wing at every opportunity - including on their own turf.

And I do have one piece of ancedotal evidence: Jim Derych’s book, Confessions of a Former Dittohead. In it, he says that the way to flip “dittiots” is through the method of 1,000 cuts.

I know that the vast majority of the 100 million or so people that hear my voice every month remain unswayed. But at a time when many elections are decided by razor thin margins - 1 or 2% - well, I can’t see how making the case for liberals where the right wing is strongest can hurt anything.

fight the mother-effers everywhere.

I agree w/Christy. Local races are the tip of the spear for us because we have no deep bench of good candidates. I’m a true believer in the Dean strategy. When I’m not actually lawyering now, I am also managing a local county commission race in FL for a gate crashing Dem, 1st time candidate, who has no Dem primary opposition. Unfortunately, the big money here is still going to US Sen campaign of Bill Nelson who is already up over Rep. Katherine “Cruella ” Harris something like 30 pts. He’s got enough $, people!

A $500 donation is Nelson’s Diet Cokes bill for his staff this week. Every dollar means SO much more to a local candidate. If elected, my candidate will be the ONLY Dem voice in county government. The same county government which passed a policy last year saying they decline to “recognize, acknowledge or promote gay pride” in the county. Needless to say, progressive voices need to be heard there.

Not sure of the etiquette of posting another donation link here in NYBri’s moment, but it seems on topic. Sorry if it over-steps. Check out, Mary Mulhern http://www.marymulhern.com/wordpress/. Maybe we should do a general post on FDL’s favorite local races sometime?

Thanks for this posting. The energy and gumption of Brian’s candidacy should be an inspiration for anyone who believes in the real power of democracy. I’m getting to see it first hand since I’m married to Brian’s campaign manager, Audrey Molsky. It’s been utterly inspiring seeing Brian’s concern about our party-line toeing, anti-middle class incumbent grow into the focus and determination to try and offer something better. I never really appreciated how much commitment it takes to enter politics and make real, needed changes. It’s difficult as hell, and he’s really doing it.

But that’s not why I’m writing. I’m new at all this, and have never posted to a blog in my
life, but just need to share how inspiring it’s all been. Last week I was waiting in the airport and noticed two men next to me strike up a conversation. I didn’t pay much
attention, but after less than a minute I realized I was hearing the word “Clinton” over and over again, so my attention was hooked. These two total strangers had taken less than a minute to start a Hillary and Bill Clinton bash-fest. They were reveling in it like hogs at a trough; the whole thing was both disturbing and interesting at the same time. So, for the first time in my life I took a deep breath, opened my mouth and asked what is was that was so distasteful to these guys about the Clintons.

The ensuing conversation doesn’t even matter, but the point is that I am now inspired to engage and make my progressive presence known. My airport experience was interesting, informative, the conversation actually turned out to be interesting, and most important, it was deeply empowering. Hey, we progressives are everywhere! The mainstream media may try to portray Howard Dean’s 50 State Plan as wacky, but it’s exactly how conservative Republicans infiltrated government some 40 years ago. Dean’s is a great example to follow, the netroots community makes it that much more powerful.

Brian’s step into candidacy has made me realize empowerment is infectious and invigorating. My travels as a touring musician and conversations with people everywhere make me want to see more candidates like Brian take the reigns to get our democracy back. It doesn’t take reading every newspaper and knowing the intricacies and intrigues of every issue to be involved. Regular folks on both sides of the political fence are looking for real answers. I saw it all myself this week, and I’m going to keep opening my mouth every chance I get. Thanks, Brian.

Hi, Brian,

I was so impressed at YK by your presence and polish as a first time candidate. And wow, did you ever work hard, you were EVERYWHERE at that convention. Your energy and enthusiam should be an inspiration to us all, especially would-be candidates.

I’m the Democratic county chair of Columbia County (NY), all of which is within the 41st District. I read FDL regularly, and I was thrilled to see Brian’s appearance here. Our county committee recently endorsed Brian, with great enthusiasm.

http://www.ccnydems.org

Brian’s election is important for all of New York. The Republicans currently hold a slight majority in the State Senate; we need to flip four seats from R to D to break their majority. So wherever you live, if you can help Brian, you help all of New York.

Thanks for supporting him.
