Reader BobbyG found a great article on Salon that highlights how the Rubber Stamp Republican Congressional leadership can't even keep its own word with members of the Republican party.
Jones is not a natural dove. He sits on the Armed Services Committee and his district includes Camp Lejeune, the home base of nearly 47,000 sailors and Marines. But Jones is one of a handful of Republican congressmen to break ranks with President Bush and the GOP leadership over Iraq. In recent months, he has been campaigning for a “full and honest” debate on the Iraq war. And he has written several letters to GOP committee chairmen and Majority Leader John Boehner, requesting the chance for a public vote on a pullout date.Of course, none of that has happened. In April, Boehner told his colleagues that he would schedule a floor debate on Iraq, apparently bowing to pressure from Democrats and Republicans such as Jones. But this week, when the debate finally kicked off, Boehner and the Republican leadership pulled a bait and switch. Instead of an Iraq debate, they scheduled a debate on a resolution “declaring that the United States will prevail in the Global War on Terror.” And then, in an election-year trick that is almost as old as the Congress itself, the GOP leadership barred any amendments on the resolution, effectively forcing Democrats to vote on whether or not they want Osama bin Laden to win.
Jones now says he feels duped by his own party’s leadership. “Maybe I should have been less trusting, but I felt it would be a debate that would allow us to talk about policy,” Jones told me.
Now the GOP leadership is playing bait and switch with its own members to do CYA for Bush, Cheney and Rummy. Pathetic. No real debate. No meaningful oversight. No accountability. All CYA, alla time. Meanwhile, the Pentagon can't even pay electric bills and the troops don't have appropriate equipment -- still -- over in Iraq. Oh, and homeland security -- still only inspecting maybe 5% or less of all containers entering the country...it just goes on and on and on.
Had enough?
PS -- This may not mean anything to anyone but the SFF readers in the audience, but please take some time to send thoughts and prayers (or whatever it is that you do) for Jim Baen, who has apparently had a very serious stroke. (H/T to Patrick at MakingLight for the heads up on this.)

I’m getting a large bumper sticker with “Had enough??” on it. That’s the best, most succinct slogan I’ve heard for the democrats.
Hey Condi, Deadeye, Chimpy.
How goes those efforts to “isolate” Iran?
http://news.xinhuanet.com/engl.....707607.htm
Well, kids, you can always focus on getting of the other 5/6ths of the worlds population to turn against Iran.

I have been waiting and waiting for an excuse to use this picture. Someone sent it to me a couple of months ago — and I apologize because I neglected to note who it was or I’d give you a credit on this.
HELL YES I HAVE HAD ENOUGH. Democrats need to denounce Karl Rove for what he is NOW. A COWARD. He is pulling the strings in this fiasco, and the Dems HAVE TO SPEAK UP ABOUT IT. How long will they let this scumbag attack people who volunteered to serve their country as unpatriotic? Every time I hear the little doughy, lilly-white, draft dodging, meat puppet open his mouth the hair on my neck stands up. I want Dems on the talk shows talking about his deferments. Deferments that documents SHOW he lied to get. I want them talking about his campaign tricks - many, many of which are illegal and all of which are immoral. I want to hear about the illegal phone jamming. AND I WANT AN EXPLANATION ABOUT HIS LIES IN THE PLAME AFFAIR. It is time America had a long talk about this coward. He needs to be removed from any form taxpayer compensation, or sent to my little corner of NC without his entourages of boobs - I would love to show him how “cowardly” we liberals are personally.
Anyboby seen the 8.8 BILLION? I think it’s in cash!

The Newtster gave us that slogan a couple of months ago. Wasn’t that nice of him?
The problem with these fake resolutions is that the Democrats don’t fight back fast enough. Our side should be launching an today ad that frames this nonsense. Get it out there now so that we freeze the talking points. If we wait for four months no one will remember, except for the political geeks among us (which, of course, is all of us here at FDL).
The slogan was first used by the GOP to retake Congress in 1946 after years of Democratic rule. A certain irony, eh?

Reid is hitting back the ReTHUGS;
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/.....rik…
Sen. Reid Strikes Back At WH For Calling Dead Troops “A Number”: “It’s Somebody’s Son Or Daughter”…
Today on the Senate floor, Democratic Leader Harry Reid condemned White House Press Secretary Tony Snow’s remarks that the 2,500 troops killed in Iraq so far are “a number.”
In the Senate yesterday, we had a moment of silence because we lost our 2,500th troop in Iraq. It was a solemn milestone which we observed in this Chamber.
Over at the White House, I guess they have a different feeling. In all the news around the country today, there’s a quote from Tony Snow, the President’s Press Secretary, who said in response to the news, “it’s a number.”
“It’s a number.”
I say to the White House, it’s more than a number. It’s somebody’s son or daughter, someone’s father or mother, a neighbor, an uncle, or an aunt.
IRAQ CIVIL WAR-
Progressives need to name what’s going on and change the narrative to reflect the reality. It’s not the U.S vs. Al Qaeda. It’s not the Iraq war. It’s the IRAQ CIVIL WAR!
Last nite I stayed up too late watching a movie, The Patriot. I watched it and pretended I was an Iraqi, Afghan, or Palestinian living with war and occupation. Try it sometime and anyone here in America will see why we will never, ever win.
It chronicles a small segment of the revolutionary war and the protagonist also fought in the French and Indian War and did horrific things then that he speaks of later in the movie. When he loses a son to a brutal British officer, he and his little boys go out to free the other son that the British have taken to hang. Those British are all killed by this man and his little ones:
********
Nathan Martin: Father, I killed those men.
Benjamin Martin: It’s alright, Nathan. You had no choice.
Nathan Martin: I’m glad I killed those men. I’m glad.
**********
Benjamin is the leader of a militia and prevails. He is a mythic hero to many and is fighting for his family, his country and his independence. You know what phrase I heard uttered at least twice by the Americans?
Stay. The. Course.
Totally different context, don’t you know.
The ferry system in Washington state had an incident yesterday where a drunk guy drove on to a ferry and there were no police on hand to arrest him and take him off. The ferry had to ‘boat’ on over to Seattle, where the guy was arrested after trying to ram cars ahead of him in line. He had fireworks (prob’ly from the Reservation) and gasoline and other incendiary devices in his front seat with him. Ferry system does not have enough money (they’re running a $10million deficit right now b/c of the increase in fuel costs) to pay for sufficient security.
But I’m sure they’re doing a heckuva job! (actually this snark is intended for the feds where it belongs)

I thought it was TeddySanFran here at FDL who made the push to use it.
On the Ann Coulter comment, it was:

Personally, I have little to no interest in Coulter. She’s a David Duke in drag, a media creation to funnel hatespeech. I am always surprised that anyone would want to pay attention to a Nazi wannabe.
And whatever “civil war” there is, OUR occupation fomented it.
I was talking to a very conservative, former Bush supporter at work today. I mentioned the republican ‘cut and run’ meme.
He said, “Yeah, I remember when Reagan cut and ran out of Lebanon. Smartest thing he ever did.”
I’m not agreeing with him, just thought it was interesting.
Instead of simply ‘Troops Out’, how about Democrats acknowledging that the US does not have the resources or the right to be the world’s policeman, and promoting a diplomatic resolution brokered by groups such as the UN, Arab League, EU and OPEC? It would be wrong for the US to walk away or re-deploy while preventing others from using their good offices to stop the carnage.
cbl #15
An occupation would imply that something was being occupied. Our military in Iraq occupies the ground it is standing on and not much else. I agree with BillR that what is going on in the rest of the country is a civil war and I would dearly love the media to stop talking about “imminent”, “impending”, “verge of”, as well as “sectarian violence/strife/conflict/killings”. It is a civil war and they should start calling it one and we should start thinking what our options and responsibilities are in such an environment.
Teddy is right that it originally came from 1946 Truman. Newt put it out front on March 27.

Great meme as far as I’m concerned.
Works for me!
Hugh, people are paying attention because that is the direction being paved in our country.
Over at KOS there is a diary on Michael Savages latest exhortations for the US to start targeting the Iraqi civilian population……
Savage is the man that Bush adviser Dan Bartlett said he listens to on his commute home.

I’m getting a large bumper sticker with “Had enough??” on it. That’s the best, most succinct slogan I’ve heard for the democrats.
I’m with Pacific Coaster. I like it better than Get Real.
These people are so low down dirty, so nasty, so criminal, so unpatriotic, so freedom-hating, so anti-American, so foreign to everything that is good, pure, honest and noble, the only way I could be more disgusted by them is if they were covered in the shit and rolled in toxic waste.
I’m willing to spread the shit with a spatula myself.
The Dems should be actively formulating an action plan to speak to, register, and get the votes of military families. These folks have seen their loved ones risk everything for those asshole repuke chickenhawks…and then get fucked over and over again in return.
I think they’d give us a fair hearing at this point.
Just sayin’

As Colin Powell said, you break it you own it. No major international organization and no individual nation is going to volunteer to send its assets into that meatgrinder. If we want to destroy and weaken ourselves, well that’s our business.
The situation as it stands now is that we broke it and we can’t put it back together again. Eventually we are going to leave the shop and learn to live with the broken pieces (as will the Iraqis and the rest of the world).
I got way, way EPU’d on the Santorum suit thread, so…

My point is Americans don’t like to lose ‘wars’ and as long as it’s referred to as a war, the Dems remain painted in a corner, and forced to respond to Rovian Spin
Sometimes the simplest ideas work best and I’m thinking a lot Americans would be ok with ending the occupation in Iraq so as to go on and Win The War On Terror

cbl,
The Republicans would trade on the legalism that the occupation ended on June 28, 2004 when “sovereignty” was returned, the CPA ended, and the interim government was formed. I like the idea of saying, “Look, we went in, we took out Saddam which was what we wanted to do, we gave the Iraqis a chance (true kind of), and now it’s up to them and time for us to leave.
Otherwise, we will have to learn to live with the broken pieces either a defeat or inconclusiveness. It won’t be the first time. Since WWII, we have had Korea, Vietnam, Gulf I, Afghanistan, and Gulf II. Vietnam was a flatout defeat. The rest are equivocal at best and Korea, Afghanistan, and Gulf II are ongoing.
Let’s see where this leads:
>>>>>>>>>
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A probe into whether U.S. Marines covered up the circumstances in which up to 24 Iraqis were killed in the city of Haditha last year is complete and a top commander is reviewing it, the U.S. military said on Friday.
Lieutenant General Peter Chiarelli, head of U.S. ground forces in
Iraq, received the findings of the investigation and would either approve them, add his own conclusions or request more information from the investigating officer.

BTW Lobstergirl I share your appreciation of David Brooks and your reaction to him is the best I have heard. I just wish I could find it in the old threads.
Hugh #31
‘As Colin Powell said, you break it you own it.’
We broke it (granted Saddam did his share), but that means we’re obliged to help fix it, not that we own it.
An internationally negotiated solution would presumably be acceptable if it recognized the role of international law (Dems are presently in bed with Repugs in espousing vigilantism), and involved the US renouncing claims to permanent bases and oil. We’ve been the major international scofflaw of late. Let’s offer to do the right thing and see how the world responds.
Hugh,
Saw David Brooks on the street in DC one day and was surprised at how short he is . . . .

International law would, I think, say that Iraq is a sovereign state since that pesky date June 28, 2004 and it is up to Iraq and not us to make such presentations. I doubt that the Iraqi government would make them or the international community act on them (until security conditions improved but that is rather the point: if security conditions improved there would be no need for an international presence).
Sometimes there is no right thing to do. You just deal with the situation as you can and live with the consequences.

email from Montanans for Tester –
Today Montanans are uniting behind Jon Tester at rallies across the state. This morning, U.S. Senator Max Baucus, Governor Brian Schweitzer, State Auditor John Morrison, and U.S. House candidate Monica Lindeen joined Jon on stage in the State Capitol Rotunda, unified in the campaign to send Senator Burns into retirement in November.
They’re joining Montanans from all walks of life, spreading the message that this election isn’t about Republicans versus Democrats. This election is about working Montanans versus insider Washington D.C. It’s about good-paying jobs, affordable health care, quality education and access to public lands. It’s about affordable energy for consumers across the nation. And it’s about ending the culture of corruption that infects our political process and clouds Senator Burns’ judgement in the Senate.
We have tremendous momentum coming out of the Primary Election. Independent-minded voters are joining our campaign because they understand Jon Tester’s commitment to real change for Montana in the U.S. Senate. Now it’s time to tell your friends and family to join the campaign.
Conrad Burns and the Republicans from back East are scared by the grassroots wave they saw in the primary. D.C. Beltway Republicans are already running ads on television in Montana, trying to confuse voters and change the subject. They’re even making fun of Jon’s haircut.
But this election won’t be decided by attack ads or elite Republican operatives. It will be decided by working Montanans who want a guy like them in Washington, D.C. A third generation farmer whose roots run deep here at home.
So if you can, make a contribution today, and join Governor Schweitzer, Senator Baucus, and thousands of Montanans on stage, united for real change and a real Montanan in the U.S. Senate.
Thank you for all that you do.

…And then, in an election-year trick that is almost as old as the Congress itself, the GOP leadership barred any amendments on the resolution, effectively forcing Democrats to vote on whether or not they want Osama bin Laden to win.
So I read this and literally the first image that pops into my mind is the vast majority of Democrats (can’t expect them all, unfortunately) getting up and walking out en masse to boycott the vote, and heading straight for cameras and microphones to explain in detail why.
Doesn’t seem like a prodigious feat of imagination to me, but did that occur to Pelosi or any of the rest of them? If it did, why wasn’t it done? And if it didn’t, why do they think they deserve reelection?
The Walter Jones story was very sad. I was wondering though, if he has been savaged as a coward and a traitor by his fellow Republicans for changing his mind about Iraq, and not falling into line with the leadership on this ridiculous stunt. Has he gotten a visit from the Porcine One?
The whole thing is sad. If nothing else, much of what has taken place in the House and in the Senate is proof that there are too many legislators whose priorities are ordered in relation to how their chances to retain their seats are affected. Gone is the priority to serve the people and serve the country; now it’s all about serving themselves.
Average - and not-so-average - Americans are tired of feeling alone in their struggle to function in today’s world, and are tired of feeling the absence of leadership that is supposed to be conducted in their best interests. The House stunt that took place over two days is a slap in the face to hard-working people who do not have the luxury of engaging in pointless debate instead of going to work to bring home a paycheck. They do not understand how what took place helps anyone, least of all the men and women whose lives are on the line in Iraq every day. They do not understand how 10 hours of debate and a vote taken solely to be used as campaign fodder gets them any closer to a higher hourly wage, to lower health care costs, to less expensive prescription drugs, to keeping more jobs here in America, to all of the things that make them better able to provide for their families and have any measure of security for the future.
I think if the message Democrats give the voters is one that gives people hope for true leadership, and honest efforts in addressing issues of working people - as opposed to the constant demands of the corporations - they will be that much closer to gaining the seats they need to follow through on that message.
Mommybrain,
“What did you think of Warner as Gov?”
am trying to keep an open mind on Warner - AND his equivocating on emptywheel’s quesion on Iran is making it all that much more difficult - it had the malodorous DLC perfume all over it

cbl,
Thanks for the Booman piece. Curiously, the more it said that Iraq was not a war the more I felt it was one. More importantly, I don’t think you can sell occupation to Bubbas. With the Good Ole Boys I used to live around, the only way to make the point would be to look them in the eye and tell them, “It’s time. You know it is.” and leave it at that. Arguments or reasons would just make them mad and get their backs up. As polls show most know the truth. We don’t need to massage them. This time the truth will do.

2,500
It’s a number. To Presidential Press Secretary Tony Snow, it’s clearly “just” a casual number, the number of American soldiers killed in Iraq thus far, as of the other day.
Zero is also a number.
Zero is the total number of days the extended offspring of George Herbert Walker Bush have fought for this country in uniform.
Zero is the total number of days of military service of Dick “I Had Other Priorities” Cheney.
Zero is the total number of days of military service of Karl Rove.
Zero is the total number of days of military service of Lewis “Scooter” Libby.
Zero is the total number of days of military service of Paul Wolfowitz.
Zero is the total number of days of military service of Ken “Cakewalk” Adelman.
Zero is the total number of days of military service of Newt Gingrich.
Zero is the total number of days of military service of Tom Delay.
Zero is the total number of days of military service of Dennis Hastert.
Zero is the total number of days of military service of Trent Lott.
Zero is the total number of days of military service of Rush Limbaugh.
Zero is the total number of days of military service of Ann Coulter.
Zero is the total number of days of military service of Michael Savage.
Zero is the total number of days of military service of William Bennett.
Zero is the total number of days of military service of Sean Hannity.
Zero is the total number of days of military service of Bill O’Reilly.
And so on. There’s a LONG list of pro-war zeroes. They add up to a personal courage quotient of ZERO.
2,500 (and counting) comprises the number of Americans who have paid the ultimate price to keep these vile cowards clean and comfy.
say what? TPM:
Ok, I think this -
many Americans now feel how many of us felt 12-18 mos ago - if we leave, we abandon our moral duty to the Iraqi people.
now everyone here knows nothing, absolutely nothing is going to change and in fact is only going to get worse
I don’t know if 3000, 4000, OR 5000 dead is the tipping point to get folks off of that (And can’t ya just hear the Talking Points on that - hey we lost 58,000 in Vietnam, what ya crying about ?!?!)
so again, a simple idea that gives them “permission” to get us the hell out and maybe, just maybe save some american military lives

Wait! Before you start pounding your head against the keyboard, ‘cuase kiddies, it gets even better! They have granted access to this thing to NSA and CIA and DIA and CentComm and the National Counter Terrorism Center and SOCOM.
So, you thought no one was watching? Guess again, this thing tracks all of your purchases and habits. Not to sound to Tin-Foil, but is that the feted breath of the police state on the back of your neck?
cbl - That is my impression of him, too.
I’m apparently one of the few that thinks a sparkling personality isn’t the #1 priority for a politician. So I don’t understand the CW on Phil Angelides, that he is colorless, no personality, unelectable. He’s got 10x the charisma that Warner has and he can be hysterically funny. He and Al Franken knew each other at Harvard and when he goes on Franken’s show it’s like a stand-up routine. But the thing that makes my heart go pit-a-pat is how smart he is, what a diplomat, how he understands the workings of the state. AFter 6 years of incomparable incompetence, at both the state and national levels, how refreshing that would be to have him at the helm.
Thanks, y’all.
Really fucking pissed right now. These scum.

You give great message!
Today I am thinking about the entire brain family in their all-too-quiet house. Hope all the brains are doing well….
I’m fascinated when these efforts to urge our Congresscritters to vote “present” bubble up in our blogtopia, because it seems terribly reasonable from where we sit. On Hayden and now this resolution, the cries from our corner were “Abstain!” And yet, mired in the center of the debate and unable to stand back from it (and admit its idiocy, perhaps) very, very few Dems see this as a way to shift the frame.
To me, a vote with LOTS of abstentions generates press questions and photo ops: “What was THAT about?” Thus, an opportunity to move OUR message. To them, not so much. I wonder why?

If the US stays in Iraq indefinitely, what will happen to the troops? 20 deployments? I don’t think there are enough recruits to replace the current troops. Every last on of them will be so mentally ill from all that fighting, if they aren’t already, they won’t be able to keep it up. I don’t get Bush’s vision of a war that will be determined by future presidents. Who will be doing the fighting?

Bicmon @61: Used to vacation on Mount Desert Island as a kid. Love it up there. It doesn’t get much prettier than Maine.
BobbyG:
Excellent letter.
Send it to Froomkin-maybe it’ll make it’s way to the WH press corps, and someone can ask Pony about it.
BobbyG,
god I hope that gets published - you on fire Vegas boy !
hugh,
“he said looking at himself narrowly in the mirror.”
I suspect when that wonderful day comes when I get to see all my FDL folks, my mind’s eye will be in charge and you’ll all look like towering visitors from Mt Olympus
from time to time, blogger Blue Gal writes some very spot on pieces about the aphrodisiacal effect of intellect - if I sent her any of your posts on ‘english’, she’d swear off Wallace Shawn forever
I know I feel a lot safer knowing that H. Res. 861 has passed!

If you haven’t read it, take a gander. I know it will make you feel safer too. It’s so full of substance. (can you detect the sarcasm in my typing voice?)
I also feel safer knowing that the people who should be governing are having picnics called “Rodeo on the South Lawn.”
To answer my own question–two Tony Snow bios I looked at do not list military service. He was born in 1955. It looks like he would have been in college from about 1973 to 1977–part of that time while the U.S. was still in Vietnam.
(Full disclosure, so was I–but then I don’t go around making callous remarks about our slain soldiers’ deaths).
Letter rip, Bobby G
FYI - Murtha will be talking to Blitzer’s beard shortly on CNN
Are they wearing seersucker cowboy/girl outfits and running around with Pony Sticks, holsters with twin toy pistols and cowboy hats?
All asshats, no cattle.
Hugh #55,
‘Sometimes there is no right thing to do. You just deal with the situation as you can and live with the consequences.’
Iraqis are living with the lethal consequences of our wrongdoing far more than we are.
We can’t credibly claim the Repugs are wrong if we avoid doing what’s right. The US is inextricably involved in the world via economic ‘globalization’ and countless overseas military bases. It’s time for us to be a responsible world citizen.
The Republican-authored policy in Iraq was wrong. Democrats should say so and distance themselves from the war on the grounds that they were deceived, and that the only legitimate objective, Saddam’s removal, has been accomplished.
Oh, NASTY! Pumpkinhead on Charlie Rose tonight flogging his new book on the wisdom of fathers and how the streets of Buffalo are paved with candy. Or something.
Did anyone read that NYT Mag interview (on Mother’s Day) where Deborah Solomon kept asking Russert about his mother, but apparently he only likes to talk about his father? It was freaking hilarious. What a stooge. He could not be persuaded to talk about his mother on Mother’s Day.
New thready goodness upstairs.
Mommybrain,
helped my sister’s catering firm with a very very posh party in Fair Oaks some time back (before Arnie). when I arrived she said ‘got one of your smart ass brainy types I want ya to meet’ and called him over
omg, we traded champagne spews for almost an hour - he introduced himself as ‘Phil’ and said he worked for the state - lol ! actually found myself in flirting mode he was that charming.

I’m not so sure it’s better to call it an occupation than a war. It may have more impact to say that “George Bush got us into an unnecessary and unprovoked war” than “George Bush got us into an unnecessary and unprovoked occupation.” It’s debatable.
Maybe as a nod to our Tex/Mex friends, they will have constructed a pinata out of our shredded Constitution and the Geneva Convention, etc… and the prize is 2500 little flag lapel pins and little yellow magnets with support our troops on them.
It’s just a number, anyhoo.
LOL!
It wasn’t 5 minutes after I hit “send” and the dude from the Las Vegas Sun called to verify my letter.
new thread !
Cheers, BobbyG!!!!!!!!
Howdy Folks-
Been working way too many twelves…trying to catch up on comments when possible. So sad that YKOS was not in my cards this year, but proud to be listening to our fearless women on the Plame Panel.
#1 Is anyone laughing that Walter Jones just knifed the Chimp with that letter from the Front? A Republican Rep. handing a letter that references the Twins, and their usefulness as bunkmates, to a reporter is pretty f-ing funny in my book.
#2 From the Hippity Hoppity thread…just this a.m. my husband was suiting up for a hearing, and put on the poplin. Then turned to me and asked if it was “okay” to be wearing a poplin suit this early in June. Huh? I’m DairyMaid, not FashionQueen. Don’t ask me. Apparently, when he was a youngster summer associate at a large D.C. firm, he wore a Poplin suit early in June. One of the older women took him aside, and informed him that it was not proper to wear poplin until after June 21.
Apparently the cat killer and Ricky did not get the message.
#3 Missing some posters lately…EPU,have I just missed your posts? And Karen Allen…has Mean Jean held her prisoner? What about Grandpa…lurking maybe? Just wondering.
Cheers to all!
cbl - that’s my boy! Modest and funny. He’s going to need all the help he can get. Arnie’s already going negative on him, and cleverly, too. Have you seen the first attack ad?
Everything is in reverse - cars, people walking, kids at school - and the voice over is about Phil wanting to raise taxes, taking us back to the bad-old-days of high taxes that drove all business out of the state.
Shit.
cbl - duh, of course you haven’t seen it. Just take my word for it.
Here’s the really funny bit from Michael Sherer’s Salon article today:
Rep. Walter Jones, the North Carolina Republican who invented the phrase “freedom fries,” invited me into his Capitol Hill office Thursday morning, a cluttered space festooned from floor to ceiling with military memorabilia, Pentagon plaques and photographs of soldiers. Then he pulled out an e-mail he had recently received from an Army captain who served in Iraq.
The e-mail quoted another American soldier serving in Iraq, a voice that Jones wanted people to hear. “Tell all those assholes in D.C. to get us the f— out of here. This is bullshit,” Jones said, reading from the e-mail, but choosing not to pronounce the f-word in full. “Either that or tell them to tell Bush to send over the twins. They can bunk with me. That would be useful.”
Those are the 2 paragraphs that precede the ones Christy quoted. I LMFA Off!
What about an active campaign by Pelosi and other top House Dems to get some of these guys to switch sides- Jones, Leech etc… Promise them committee chair positions.
There just has to be a group of these Republican Reps who have just had it with these ass holes no?
I’m new to posting here (though I’ve been reading every day for weeks now - can’t get enough!). Can anyone explain why on earth the Dems in office don’t bring up national security as an issue? We are no safer, as Christy points out. Who would want the guys who “planned” Iraq, or “managed” Katrina in charge of security at Macy’s, let alone for the US? In my opinion, the Dems have to get a spine (or get one cloned from Russ Feingold) and start to remind people that the war in iraq has done nothing to make us safer (just the opposite).
Anyway, thanks for all the interesting posts - its great to know people care and are engaged in this process.
